WITHIN A FEW DAYS ALL FOUR DOOR LOCK STOPPED LOCKING OR UNLOCKING AUTOMATICALLY USING THE REMOTE OR THE DOOR SWITCH. THE ONLY WAY TO LOCK OR UNLOCK THE DOORS WAS MANUALLY. I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THEY SAID THAT ALL FOUR ACTUATORS WENT OUT AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $1600. THEY SAID THEY REPLACE FUEL LOCK ACTUATORS ALMOST WEEKLY AND DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS VERY FREQUENTLY BUT USUALLY NOT ALL FOUR A THE SAME TIME. I FOUND IT REALLY HARD TO BELIEVE THAT FOUR INDEPENDENT COMPONENTS WOULD GO OUT ALL WITHIN THE SAME WEEK. I PLACED A POSTING ON A FORUM AND WAS AMAZED AT THE RESPONSE OF THE SAME PROBLEM. IT IS A DEFINIATE SAFETY AND SECURITY ISSUE WHEN YOU IN THE CAR BECAUSE YOU HAVE NO IDEA IF ALL DOORS ARE LOCKED UNTIL YOU LOOK AT EVERYONE OF THEM AND THEN YOU AREN'T REALLY SURE. IT ALSO IS A SAFETY/SECURITY ISSUE WHEN YOU ARE OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE MURANO ONLY HAS ONE EXTERNAL KEY LOCK. IT IS ALSO VERY INCONVENIENT. NISSAN KNOWING THERE IS A SECURITY PROBLEM WITH THEIR LOCKING MECHANISM AND NOT RECALLING THEM FOR SAFETY CONCERN IS NEGLIGENT. *TR
DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE SUN VISOR WILL NOT REMAIN IN THE UP POSITION. THE DRIVER SIDE IS THE SAFETY HAZARD; IT WILL FALL DOWN WITHOUT NOTICE. IT WILL NOT STAY UP AT ALL NOW; CAUSING A RESTRICTED VIEW. THIS IS THE 2ND VISOR I HAVE HAD; THE FIRST TIME IS WAS REPLACED UNDER THE WARRANTY BUT THAT HAS RUN OUT AND THEY WILL NOT REPLACE IT. *TR
HI, I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND TURNED THE CORNER AND HEARD A HORRIBLE NOISE. THERE WAS NO WARNING, NO LIGHTS ON THE DASH -NOTHING. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A AUTOMOTIVE SHOP. I WAS TOLD THEY DID NOT WORK ON THE PROBLEM. SO I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALER. THE NISSAN DEALER SAID I HAD A CRACKED TRANSFER CASE AND THE ESTIMATE TO GET IT FIXED IS $5049.96. I OWE $1780.00 ON THE CAR. AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE 5K TO FIX IT. *TR
THE DOOR LOCKS DON'T ALWAYS WORK PROPERLY ON MY 2004 NISSAN MURANO (HAS BEEN THIS WAY FOR QUITE SOME TIME) -- IT SOUNDS LIKE THEY ARE LOCKING/UNLOCKING, BUT THE LOCK DOESN'T ACTUALLY ENGAGE. IT'S AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM, AND IT ISN'T ALWAYS THE SAME DOOR. I'VE SEEN MANY OTHERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS ON THIS VEHICLE, AND IT SEEMS LIKE AN OPEN FOR DOOR FOR A BIGGER PROBLEM (CAR JACKING, ETC) -- YOU FEEL SAFE BECAUSE YOU "HEARD" THE DOORS LOCK, YET YOU CAN STILL OPEN IT FROM THE OUTSIDE... I FEEL THAT IT COULD POSSIBLY WARRANT A RECALL FOR SAFETY REASONS. *TR
2004 NISSAN MURANO - IN MID MARCH 2008, MY DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR (LIGHTED W/EXTENSION) FELL DOWN AND NO LONGER WAS ABLE TO REMAIN IN THE "UP" POSITION. THE VISOR CANNOT REMAIN IN ANY POSITION OTHER THAN A 90 DEGREE ANGLE PERPENDICULAR TO THE GROUND. THERE IS NO WAY TO KEEP THE VISOR UP OR ADJUST IT TO REMAIN AT AN ANGLE. IT IS COMPLETELY USELESS AND SERIOUSLY OBSTRUCTS FORWARD VISIBILITY WHEN DRIVING, ESPECIALLY ON SUNNY DAYS. SINCE MARCH 2008, I HAVE HAD SEVERAL NEAR ACCIDENTS. THERE IS NO WAY TO FIX THE VISOR WITHOUT REPLACING IT. THE COST OF REPLACEMENT IS APPROX. $300. SEARCHES ON THE INTERNET REVEAL THERE ARE NUMEROUS OTHER MURANO OWNERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
AT 67,000 MILES THE TRANSFER CASE OF MY 04 AWD MURANO CRACKED. AS A RESULT A CONTROL PANEL AND SWITCH WERE ALSO DAMAGED. GRAND TOTAL TO REPAIR $4200. ONLY EVENT LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE WAS A CLICKING OR SLAPPING SOUND 3 DAYS PREVIOUS TO THE PART COMPLETELY FAILING. I THOUGHT THAT THE NOISE WAS RELATED TO MY RECENT TIRE ROTATION INITIALLY AND THE CAR COMPLETELY BROKE DOWN ON THE WAY TO THE REPAIR SHOP. WEBSITE POLL WITH 43% OF PEOPLE RESPONDING THAT THEY HAD PROBLEMS WITH THIS PART REFERRED ME TO THIS SITE. *TR
MY FAMILY AND I WERE DRIVING OUR VEHICLE AND WERE AT A LIGHT. OUR VEHICLE SHOOK VERY HARD WHEN I APPLIED THE GAS. CAR WOULD NOT GO MORE THAN 5 MILES AND HOUR. WE WERE ON OUR WAY TO THE HIGHWAY WHEN IT HAPPENED. TOOK THE CAR HOME. HAD IT TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. THEY DISCOVERED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FLUID HAD LEAKED OUT OF THE CAR. WE WERE GIVEN THREE REASONS FOR THE PROBLEM. REASON 1: "O" RING ON HOSE BROKE (COVERED UNDER WARRANTY) REASON 2: DEALER CALLED BACK WITH A SECOND REASON. THEY SAID ACID LEAKED FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE BATTERY ONTO THE TRANSMISSION. (NOT UNDER WARRANTY) REASON 3: WHEN WE PICKED UP THE CAR WE WERE TOLD THAT THE BATTERY WAS LEAKING FROM THE TOP BECAUSE THE BATTERY WAS OVERCHARGING ITSELF. WE WERE TOLD THAT ANOTHER MURANO HAD EXPERIENCED THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM (BATTERY LEAKING ACID TO TRANSMISSION). SINCE IT HAPPENED TO OUR CAR AND ANOTHER WE QUESTIONED THE SAFETY NOT TO MENTION HOW DOES A BATTERY OVERCHARGE ITSELF. SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING IS CAUSING THE CAR TO DO THIS. TALKED TO DEALERS CONSUMER PEOPLE. BASICALLY TOLD US THAT IT CAN'T BE DISPUTED IF CAR WAS FIXED. EVEN THOUGH DEALER CONFIRMED HAPPEN TO OUR VEHICLE AND ANOTHER (ONE HAS TO WONDER IF IT HAPPENED TO ANOTHER). FAMILY AND I THOUGHT IT WAS IMPORTANT TO REPORT IF NOTHING ELSE TO HELP TRACK IF THIS TRULY IS A DESIGN ISSUE. *TR
I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN MURANO. THE DRIVER SUNVISOR HAS FAILED. IT IS AN EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD TO BE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND HAVE THE VISOR DROP DOWN. I DOES NOT STAY IN THE UP POSITION. WHEN DOWN, IT'S FLOPPY. THE DEALER WILL NOT COVER THIS ITEM AND REPLACE. NO DEATHS YET! *TR
LEASING A NISSAN MURANO 2004. I HAD THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED AT 26K AND NOW AT 100K THE DEALERSHIP IS TELLING ME THAT IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. A TRANSMISSION SHOULD LAST THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
THE DRIVER SEAT IN MY 2004 NISSAN MURANO BROKE. THE MOTOR IS STILL WORKING BUT THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE CABLE IS BROKEN SO IT DOESN'T SLIDE FORWARD. THIS IS A MAJOR SECURITY ISSUE AND IT COSTS OVER $1000 TO REPAIR IT. I HAVE READ MANY OTHER MURANOS WITH SIMILAR COMPLAINTS SO THIS MUST BE A MANUFACTURE DEFECT. *TR
2004 NISSAN MURANO WOULD PERIODICALLY NOT SHIFT FROM NEUTRAL INTO REVERSE OR PARK. THIS PROBLEM BEGAN TO APPEAR ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO. SOMETIMES THE PROBLEM LASTED FOR A DAY OR TWO SOMETIMES FOR A WEEK OR MORE. IT ONLY HAPPENED IN THE WINTER. THE FIRST 2 TIMES I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEM. THERE IS A WORK AROUND (BYPASS) FOR THE REVERSE LOCKOUT PROBLEM IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL SO THE MANUFACTURER WAS AWARE OF A POTENTIAL FOR TROUBLE. ABOUT MARCH 2010 THE PROBLEM APPEARED AND DID NOT DISAPPEAR. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER THEY HAD THE CAR FOR 2 DAYS AND COULD NOT IDENTIFY THE CAUSE. THEY RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE ENTIRE SHIFTER. I REQUESTED THEY DISCONNECT THE LOCKOUT MECHANISM. THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T BECAUSE IT WAS A SAFETY DEVICE. SO I TOLD THEM IT SHOULD BE REPAIRED AT NO COST TO ME. ABOUT A YEAR AGO I FILED A COMPLAINT REGARDING THIS PROBLEM WITH NISSAN. I ASKED THE DEALER TO TALK WITH NISSAN AND GAVE THEM THE COMPLAINT FILE #. NISSAN SAID THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY SO I HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. MY INTERNET SEARCH INDICATES THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE REVERSE LOCKOUT ON THE 2004 MURANO THAT WAS COVERED BY NISSAN IN MOST INSTANCES BUT THERE IS NO TSB ON THE ISSUE AND NISSAN SAYS IT IS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HER VEHICLE MADE A CRANKING NOISE AND EXHAUST FUMES EXITED THE TAILPIPE. THE NISSAN DEALER DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE AS "ENGINE SLUDGE". BEFORE TAKING THE VEHICLE TO NISSAN, A MECHANIC ADVISED HER TO TAKE IT TO A DEALER BECAUSE THE ENGINE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. NISSAN OF NORTH AMERICA DENIED THE CONTACT'S CLAIM AND WOULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE UNDER WARRANTY. THE PURCHASE DATE AND POWERTRAIN WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 45,360 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,154.
RE: NHTSA RECALL # P5215/05V-319, NISSAN MOTORS RECALL OF DEFECTIVE ALTERNATOR. ALTERNATOR WAS REPLACED IN JUL 06 AS PER RECALL, REPLACEMENT ALTERNATOR FAILED 20 JAN 08 AS PER SAME SYMPTOMS THAT INITIATED RECALL. VEHICLE BELONGS TO DAUGHTER AND NISSAN WOULD NOT REPLACE FOR FREE, SUBMITTED ARBITRATION TO NISSAN HQ AND WAS DENIED. *TR UPDATED.
THE VISOR ON MY VEHICLES FALLS DOWN, TOLD SPRING IS DEFECTIVE. NISSAN MURANO 2004. *TR
I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN MURANO SE. AT APPROXIMATELY 50,000 MILES, THE DRIVERS' SIDE SUN VISOR HAD SOME SORT OF INTERNAL MECHANICAL FAILURE WHICH MAKES IT FALL DOWN IN FRONT OF MY FACE WHILE DRIVING. MY EXTENDED WARRANTY COMPANY REFUSES TO FIX IT, CLAIMING IT IS A "TRIM" ITEM, AND THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMS IT IS NO LONGER THEIR PROBLEM AS THE CAR ISN'T UNDER WARRANTY. HOWEVER, IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ITEM, SINCE EVERY TIME IT FALLS DOWN, IT OBSCURES MY VIEW OF THE ROADWAY. WHEN I SEARCHED ONLINE, I FOUND MANY OTHER NISSAN MURANO OWNERS ON ONLINE FORUMS COMPLAINING OF THE SAME ISSUE WITH THEIR 2003 THROUGH 2006 MURANOS WITH RELATIVELY LOW MILEAGE FAILURES OF THIS PARTICULAR PART. *TR
I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN MURANO SL. AT ABOUT 40,000 MILES, MY DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR STARTED FALLING. IT WILL NOT STAY IN POSITION, AND HANGS RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY FACE, UNLESS I KEEP IT TACKED UP WITH VELCRO. THE PASSENGER SIDE VISOR ALSO SWINGS DOWN SOMETIMES, BUT NOT AS BAD AS THE DRIVER SIDE. I DID AN INTERNET SEARCH ON "MURANO SUN VISOR" AND FOUND OUT VERY QUICKLY THAT THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY NISSAN WITH A FULL RESOLUTION; I.E. RECALL. THE DEALER WANTS NEARLY $300 TO REPLACE ONE VISOR, WHICH IS LIKELY TO BREAK AGAIN, ACCORDING TO SEVERAL ACCOUNTS IN THE MESSAGE BOARDS. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE ALMOST HAD TWO COLLISIONS BECAUSE OF IT, AND ONCE, I RAN A RED LIGHT BECAUSE OF IT FALLING DOWN. IF I KEEP IT TACKED UP, THEN OF COURSE THERE ARE TIMES OF THE DAY WHEN THE SUN IS BLINDING ME, SO IT IS NOT SAFE NO MATTER WHAT I DO. *TR
BOTH SUN VISORS IN MY 2004 NISSAN MURANO DROP UNEXPECTEDLY AND WON'T STAY IN POSITION. THIS CREATES A SUDDEN AND UNEXPECTED VISIBILITY ISSUE. PROBLEMS BEGAN ABOUT 18 MONTHS AGO AT ABOUT 42,000 MI. PROBLEM CONTINUES TO WORSEN. I CALLED NISSAN CORPORATE BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO CORRECT THE DEFECT. *TR

ELECTRONIC DOOR LOCK FAILURE, 2004 NISSAN MURANO SE. WHETHER ACTIVATED FROM THE DRIVER'S DOOR BUTTON OR BY REMOTE FOB AND WHETHER FOR LOCK OR UNLOCK, ELECTROMECHANICAL RESPONSE AT EACH AFFECTED DOOR IS TOO WEAK, REQUIRING MANUAL LOCK/UNLOCK. PROBLEM IS NOT CONSISTENT AT EACH DOOR ALTHOUGH ALL 4 DOORS HAVE NOT WORKED SIMULTANEOUSLY IN 2-3 YRS. DRIVER'S DOOR IS THE ONLY ONE WHICH HAS NOT BEEN AFFECTED SO FAR. *TR
THE DRIVER'S DOOR WILL LOCK INTERMITTENTLY ON ITS OWN. NO OTHER DOORS SO THIS. IT CAUSES A LOT OF INCONVENIENCE AND HAS BEEN A SAFETY ISSUE ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. SEVERAL TIMES THE CAR WAS NOT LOCKED WHEN I THOUGHT IT WAS BECAUSE I TESTED THE SELF-LOCKED DRIVER'S DOOR. MY NIECE HAS THE EXACT SAME VEHICLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. BOTH HER DEALER AND MINE HAVE EACH DENIED THERE IS ANY PROBLEM OR SERVICE BULLETIN WITH THIS ISSUE. I ALSO NOTE THAT ANOTHER PARTY HAS REPORTED THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
VEHICLE WILL DRIVE NORMALLY. WITHOUT ANY WARNINGS THE VEHICLE WILL QUICKLY SLOW DOWN TO 10 - 15 MPH. THE ENGINE REMAINS RUNNING AT APPROX. 3K RPMS BUT WITH VERY FEW, IF ANY, POWER TRANSFERRED TO THE TRANSMISSION. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DOES NOT ILLUMINATE AND IF THE VEHICLE IS SHUT OFF AND RE-STARTED; THE CONDITION CLEARS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MURANO. EACH TIME THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN, THE DRIVER SEAT MOVES FROM RIGHT TO LEFT AND FRONT TO BACK. THE FAILURE WAS NOTICED WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TWICE AND THEY STATED THAT THE FRAME OF THE SEAT FAILED. THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN REGARDING THIS FAILURE; HOWEVER, THE NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 82,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,500.
I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY THE NISSAN DEALER THAT MY TRANSFER CASE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IT LOCKED UP WHEN I WAS IN THE ALL-WHEEL DRIVE MODE OVER 50 MPH. THEY INITIALLY TOLD ME THIS WAS A PROBLEM WHICH HAS BEEN ADDRESSED IN NEW MODELS BUT THEY WERE UNWILLING TO CONSIDER A RECALL EVEN THOUGH IT LEADS TO FREEZE-UPS WHILE BEING DRIVEN. BLOGS CLEARLY SHOW THAT HUNDREDS OF WRITTEN IN REGARDING THIS ISSUE WITH THE 2003 AND 2004 MURANOS. I PAID OVER $5,500 AND NOW HAVE ADDITIONAL TRANSMISSION ISSUES JUST A FEW MONTHS LATER. *TR
I PUT THE BACK TAILGATE UP IN MY 2004 NISSAN MURANO TO PUT MY GRANDDAUGHTERS' BELONGINGS IN TO TAKE THEM HOME. I WALKED TO THE BACK SEAT AREA TO PUT SOMETHING IN THE BACK SEAT, WHEN I HEARD A HUGE WHOOSHING SOUND AND SUDDENLY THE ENTIRE DOOR SLAMMED DOWN. LUCKILY I WASN'T NEAR IT OR I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. THE DOOR IS VERY HEAVY AND IT SLAMMED DOWN WITH QUITE A FORCE. THERE WAS A STRONG SMELL OF A VAPORIZED NATURE IN THE CAR. NOW THE DOOR IS VERY DIFFICULT TO OPEN AND REQUIRES BOTH HANDS TO DO SO. EVIDENTLY ONE OF THE HYDRAULIC STRUTS WENT OUT. THIS POSES A SIGNIFICANT DANGER TO ANYONE NEARBY. I HAVE CALLED THE DEALER AND AM TAKING IT IN TODAY. THEY WERE VERY NON-COMMITTAL ABOUT IT BEING SOMETHING THEY WOULD REPAIR WITHOUT COST. THEY DID SAY IT WAS A VERY RARE OCCURRENCE. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS INCIDENT AND WANT TO REPORT IT. IF OTHERS ARE NOT AWARE, THERE COULD BE A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT MY OWN SAFETY AS WELL. *TR
NOV 2007 HAD TRANSMISSION FAILURE AT APPROX 50,000 MILES. THIS HAPPENED ON THE INTERSTATE, ENGINE SUDDENLY CUT OUT & HAD TO CROSS OVER 4 LANES TO GET TO RT SHOULDER. WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BUT NOW HAVE TRANSFER CASE ON THE VERGE OF FAILURE AT 62000 MILES, JUST 2000 OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY. *TR
THE SUN VISOR ON MY 2004 NISSAN MURANO (WITH 25K MILES) FAILED SOME TIME BACK, WHERE IT WILL NOT ALWAYS STAY IN THE UP POSITION, AND UNEXPECTEDLY FALLS BLOCKING THE FIELD OF VISION. IT IS COMPLETELY UNUSABLE IN THE SIDE WINDOW POSITION, AND COMPLETELY UNPREDICTABLE IN THE FRONT POSITION. THIS CAUSED A NEAR WRECK. WHILE DOING SOME ONLINE RESEARCH I DISCOVERED THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. THE DEALERS ANSWER IS TO SELL ME A $300(!!!!) SUN VISOR, PLUS INSTALLATION. THIS IS A CLEAR MFG DEFECT AS NO OTHER CAR I'VE EVER OWNED HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM IN ANY AMOUNT OF TIME OR MILEAGE. *TR
ALTERNATOR TENSIONER BRACKET FAILED (SNAPPED) PREMATURELY DUE TO METAL FATIGUE IN THE PART CAUSING LOUD RATTLE TO COME FROM VEHICLE. TENSIONER ASSEMBLY (BRACKET AND BELT) HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $352. VEHICLE WAS BARELY OUT OF WARRANTY. *TR
1. HAVING A SECURE ENVIRONMENT IS PARAMOUNT IN CERTAIN NEIGHBORHOODS. WHEN LOCKING THE DOORS IT'S IMPERATIVE NOBODY CAN GAIN ACCESS AT WILL BY WALKING UP TO THE CAR. IF ANYONE CAN SIMPLY OPEN THE DOOR TO GAIN ACCESS, CARJACKING, INJURY, OR EVEN MURDER IS EASIER. IF THE DOORS LOCKED PROPERLY THIS PROVIDES A MORE SECURE ENVIRONMENT FOR THIS TYPE OF SCENARIO. 2. NISSAN KNOWING THERE IS A SECURITY PROBLEM WITH THEIR LOCKING MECHANISM AND NOT RECALLING THEM FOR SAFETY CONCERN IS NEGLIGENT. IT'S AN OPEN DOOR TO A LAWSUIT IF SOMEONE WERE TO BE MURDERED DUE TO A DOOR THAT DIDN'T LOCK, ALTHOUGH THE DRIVER PUSHED THE LOCK BUTTON AND HEARD THE LOCKING NOISE. REMEMBER, IN THIS CASE THERE'S NO OBVIOUS INDICATION THE DOOR ISN'T LOCKED UNLESS SOMEONE WALKS UP AND OPENS IT FROM THE OUTSIDE. THE DRIVE "THINKS" THE DOOR IS LOCKED, WHEN IN REALITY IT'S AN "OPEN DOOR" FOR CARJACKING OR ROBBERY. THIS FAILURE IS AN INTERMITTENT OF OPERATION. SOMETIMES THE DOORS LOCK OK, OTHER TIMES THEY DON'T. IN ADDITION, SOMETIMES THE DOORS UNLOCK OK, OTHER TIMES THEY DON'T. 3. IN EMERGENCIES IT'S IMPORTANT TO BE ABLE TO UNLOCK DOORS QUICKLY. SINCE 99% OF THE TIME WE ALL USE THE BUTTON TO LOCK AND UNLOCK DOORS, USING THE MANUAL LOCKING LEVER IS UNFAMILIAR. AND THE MURANO'S DESIGN IS SUCH THAT IT'S NOT EASY TO COMPREHEND IF IT'S NOT YOUR CAR, FOR INSTANCE A RENTAL CAR. I CAN EASILY UNDERSTAND HOW SOME PEOPLE WOULD BE CONFUSED HOW UNLOCK A DOOR USING THE MANUAL LEVEL IN AN EMERGENCY WHEN THEY VIRTUALLY HAVE NO EXPERIENCE WITH IT. IN EMERGENCIES EVERY SECOND COUNTS. THE LOCKING/UNLOCKING SOLENOID MALFUNCTIONING IS CLEARLY A HIGH RISK IN EMERGENCY SCENARIOS. SOME PEOPLE WHO CANNOT AFFORD THE $1600 TO HAVE ALL THE SOLENOIDS REPLACED (AS QUOTED BY DEALERS) WILL FORGO GETTING THEM FIXED, PUTTING THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS AT RISK WITH THE ABOVE MISHAP EXAMPLES. I FEEL THAT THIS SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE DEALERS THAT I HAVE CALLED HAVE QUOTED $265 -$326. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE IT FALLS DOWN AND OBSTRUCTS MY VISION. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MURANO. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. SHE RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AFTER 5 MINUTES AND IT BEGAN TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY CLEARED THE THROTTLE CONTROL ACTUATOR CODE. THE SPEED WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 46,904 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,890.
I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN MURANO. THE POWER DRIVERS SEAT WILL ONLY MOVE ON THE LEFT SIDE AND THE RIGHT SIDE IS STUCK. UPON TAKING IT TO THE DEALER, I WAS INFORMED THE GEAR ON THE RIGHT SIDE WAS STRIPPED, AND IT WOULD BE $1,000 + TO FIX THIS. I HAD THE VEHICLE IN MULTIPLE TIMES UNDER WARRANTY FOR THE SEAT SLIPPING WHEN I TOOK-OFF FROM A STOP SIGN, AND WAS TOLD IT WAS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. I AM CONCERNED THAT IN AN ACCIDENT THIS SEAT IS NOT GOING TO REMAIN IN PLACE AND IT WILL RESULT IN MAJOR INJURIES. *TR
ON TWO OCCASIONS WITHIN TWO WEEKS THE CAR WOULD NOT RESPOND TO THE ACCELERATOR. THE ENGINE WOULD REV UP, BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. THEN WITHOUT WARNING, THE CAR WILL GO "INTO GEAR" AND MOVE. AFTER TWO WEEKS THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN. CAR WOULD LOSE DRIVE TRAIN POWER, BUT ALL OTHER FUNCTIONS, RADIO, AC, STEERING WOULD STILL WORK. THE CAR SIMPLY WOULD NOT GO WHEN THE ACCELERATOR WAS PRESSED. THEN THE TRANSMISSION WOULD WORK ALL OF A SUDDEN AND THEN QUIT ALL OF A SUDDEN. *JB
ON THE MORNING OF 9/15/07 WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE I HEARD A BELT SQUEAL. WHEN INVESTIGATING THE BELT SQUEAL, NOTICED COOLANT LEAKING FROM ENGINE COMPARTMENT. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION NOTICED THE IDLER PULLEY BRACKET WAS BROKEN CAUSING THE COOLANT HOSE TO RUPTURE FROM RUBBING AGAINST THE IDLER PULLEY ADJUSTER. ALL IN ALL, WE HAD TO REPLACE THE IDLER PULLEY, PULLEY BRACKET, AND THE COOLANT HOSE. *TR
I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN MURANO AND HAVE EXPERIENCED SEVERAL PROBLEMS TO DATE. FIRST, AFTER ABOUT ONE YEAR OF OWNERSHIP THE IDLER PULLEY BRACKET CRACKED (2/21/06) AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. FOR THE LAST YEAR THE BRAKES HAVE SQUEAKED AND WHEN BROUGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY REPORTED THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM. STEEL TENSIONER BRACKET THAT HELD THE IDLE ARM ASSEMBLY IN PLACE BROKE IN HALF AND NISSAN WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE PROBLEM. THEIR CLAIM IS THAT IT WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. MY COMPLAINT IS THAT IT IS NOT A WARRANTY ISSUE BUT A DEFECTIVE PART THAT COULD BECOME A SAFETY ISSUE. OBVIOUSLY THE PART SHOULD NEVER FAIL FOR THE ENTIRE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE AS IT WAS A STEEL SUPPORT BRACKET . WHEN THE PART FAILED IT ALSO DID CONSEQUENCES DAMAGE AS WELL. THIS FALLS UNDER A SAFETY ISSUE AS WELL. *JB
INTERIOR SUN VISORS IN 2003-2008 NISSAN MURANOS FAIL TO STAY IN POSITION AND SWING DOWN IN THE DRIVER'S FACE. THIS OCCURRENCE IS WELL DOCUMENTED AND I HAVE ONLY HEARD OF ONE CASE IN WHICH A NISSAN DEALER COVERED THE REPLACEMENT UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER "TRIM PARTS", EVEN WHEN I INSISTED IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. NISSAN QUOTES $300 PER VISOR TO REPLACE, BUT THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT THE NEW VISOR WON'T BREAK. IF YOU GOOGLE "NISSAN MURANO SUN VISOR" YOU WILL GET THOUSANDS OF HITS OF PEOPLE WHO ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THE NISSAN DEALER WOULD NOT REASON WITH ME THAT IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE WHEN I BROUGHT IT TO THEM WHILE STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE IT. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE CLIP THAT HOLDS THE VISOR, BUT THIS IS A DIFFERENT ISSUE. THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THESE VISORS INTERNALLY THAT CAUSE THEM TO DROP AND HANG RIGHT IN YOUR LINE OF SIGHT. I HAVE TEMPORARILY REMEDIED THE PROBLEM BY AFFIXING VELCRO TO THE CEILING, BUT I CANNOT USE MY VISOR WHEN THE SUN IS IN MY EYES. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD AND SHOULD BE RECALLED BY NISSAN. I HAVE PUT TOGETHER A 20 PAGE DOCUMENT OF ALL THE COMPLAINTS I HAVE FOUND ONLINE RELATING TO THIS ISSUE, AND I AM DETERMINED TO HOLD NISSAN ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS PROBLEM. *TR
2004 NISSAN MURANO FRONT DOOR LOCKED WHEN CONSUMER OPENED IT. CUSTOMER STATED THAT THE DOOR STAYED LOCKED WHEN SHE OPENED THE DOOR AND REMAINED LOCKED UPON EXITING THE VEHICLE. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED ON A 95 DEGREE DAY, SHE HAD HER 5 MONTH OLD INFANT IN THE VEHICLE WHEN HER. HER INFANT STARTED TO CRY SO SHE PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT TO CALM HER DOWN WHILE EXITING THE VEHICLE TO RE-ENTER ON HER SON'S SIDE THE VEHICLE DOORS LOCKED AND WOULD NOT OPEN. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT SHE CALLED 911 AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT OPENED THE VEHICLE BUT THE INFANT WAS CRYING HYSTERICALLY FOR 20 MINUTES AND LUCKILY THE CONSUMER HAD THE A/C BLOWING. THE CONSUMER STATED WOULD LIKE THE MANUFACTURER TO BE MADE AWARE OF THE DANGEROUS SITUATION AND TO BE REIMBURSED FOR THE FIXING THE LIFE THREATENING DEFECT. THE DEALER STATED A/C BELT WAS FRAYING. *TR
I RAN OFF THE LEFT SIDE OF A MOUNTAIN ROAD HITTING A LARGE TREE WITH THE DRIVER'S DOOR, THEN CONTINUED DOWN THE HILL ANOTHER ~20 FEET SLAMMING INTO A BOULDER. WHEN I HIT THE TREE, THE DRIVER'S DOOR WINDOW BROKE AS WELL AS THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR DOOR. THE DOOR WAS JAMMED SHUT. THE NISSAN WAS EQUIPPED WITH FRONT SIDE IMPACT AIRBAGS AND BOTH FRONT AND REAR HEAD PROTECTION AIRBAGS. NONE WERE DEPLOYED. WHEN I HIT THE BOULDER, THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG DEPLOYED, BUT THE DRIVER'S FRONT AIRBAG FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE PRE-TENSIONER ON THE DRIVER'S SEATBELT DID NOT LATCH RESULTING IN ME HITTING MY UPPER CHEST AND LOWER JAW ON THE STEERING WHEEL SINCE THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE FUEL CUT-OFF DEVICE ALSO FAILED TO ACTIVATE AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. AFTER ALMOST A MINUTE, I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE WITH THE KEY. I HAD BEEN KNOCKED UNCONSCIOUS FOR SEVERAL SECONDS. THE 2004 NISSAN MURANO SUSTAINED OVER $25,000 IN DAMAGE WHICH RESULTED IN IT BEING TOTALED BY MY INSURANCE COMPANY. THE AIRBAG LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE BRIEFLY WHEN STARTING THE CAR PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT. SO THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF AN AIRBAG MALFUNCTION. THERE WAS SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AS WELL AS THE FRONT AND UNDERCARRIAGE. MY INJURIES WERE LIMITED TO BRUISES TO MY CHEST AND LOWER JAW. THE ACCIDENT ALSO GREATLY AGGRAVATED A PRIOR INJURY TO MY UPPER BACK. WHEN I WENT TO GO REMOVE MY PERSONAL BELONGINGS FROM THE VEHICLE, I FOUND THAT THE JACK, MOUNTED IN THE REAR FLOOR HAD COME COMPLETELY OUT. *TR
ISSUE WITH 2004 SL MURANO. AT 68K MILES, FELT A SHUDDER AND VIBRATION IN STEERING WHEEL, WITHOUT WARNING. TOOK IT TO MECHANIC WHERE CAR DIED WHILE GOING IN REVERSE. TOOK IT TO TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST WHO COULD NOT DIAGNOSE ISSUE. TOWED CAR TO NISSAN DEALERSHIP. ANOTHER "DIAGNOSIS" PERFORMED AND CONFIRMED TRANSMISSION WAS ISSUE. NO SPECIFIC REASON GIVE. NEW TRANSMISSION ORDERED, BUT TURNED OUT TO BE DEFECTIVE. CAR WOULD NOT GO IN REVERSE. NISSAN CONFIRMED THAT THEY KNEW ABOUT THIS ISSUE. REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION SENT AND INSTALLED. RUDE SERVICE FROM DEALERSHIP, NO HELP FROM NISSAN CUSTOMER "SPECIALIST." NEW TRANSMISSION COST WAS $6000 (PARTS AND LABOR). HAD NO OPTION BUT TO PUT NEW TRANSMISSION, BECAUSE NISSAN DOES NOT REBUILD OLD TRANSMISSIONS. *JB

FAILURE OF THE ALTERNATOR BELT TENSIONER BRACKET. THE BELT TENSIONER BROKE ON THE 2004 NISSAN MURANO, CAUSING IT TO CUT THE COOLANT HOSE TO THE OIL COOLER. THE BELT TENSIONER, COOLANT HOSE TO OIL COOLER, AND BELT HAD TO BE REPLACED. I BELONG TO THE NISSANMURANO.ORGANIZATION DISCUSSION GROUP ,AND SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE WERE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. *AK
MY WIFE AND I NOTICED THAT THE HEATER BLOWER WAS ONLY BLOWING COLD AIR WHEN TURNED TO HIGH. ALSO, THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE WAS SHOWING ANYWHERE FROM EXTREMELY HOT TO VERY HOT. UPON INSPECTION OF THE COOLANT LEVEL RESERVOIR IT WAS SHOWING FULL. HOWEVER, THE RADIATOR WAS EMPTY AND TOOK 3/4 BOTTLE OF COOLANT TO REFILL. THEN I NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A PUDDLE OF COOLANT THAT HAD FORMED ON TOP OF A BOLT. WE ALSO COULD HEAR A NOISE FROM ENGINE COMPARTMENT. UPON INVESTIGATION NOTICED IDLE PULLEY WAS VIBRATING AND MAKE THE SOUND. I INVESTIGATED ONLINE AT WWW.NISSANMURANO.ORG FOR SIMILAR PROBLEMS. I FOUND A SERIES OF REPORTS THAT THE BRACKET THAT HOLDS THE IDLE PULLEY WAS BROKEN. I HAD THE DEALERSHIP INSPECT THE VEHICLE AND IT LOOKED TO THEM LIKE THE PULLEY BRACKET WAS BROKEN. UPON EXAMINATION OF HOW THE BRACKET BROKE SEEM THAT THE BRACKET IS UNDER-DESIGNED. THE CRACK SEEMS TO INDICATE THAT THE BRACKET BROKE BY BENDING FATIGUE. THIS IDLE PULLEY TENSIONER HAD THEN SEVERED THE COOLANT HOSE. THE FAILURE TO THIS IDLE PULLEY COULD LEAD TO AN ALTERNATOR NOT PROVIDING ENERGY TO THE CAR AND EVEN MORE SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES. *TR
IDLER PULLEY AND BRACKET DESIGN DEFAULT. I JUST TOOK MY CAR IN AFTER AN ALL OF THE SUDDEN CLANGING NOISE - AT 35,000 MILES. I WAS TOLD BY AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP THAT I REQUIRED A NEW IDLER PULLEY AND BRACKET. APPARENTLY IT WAS BROKEN. I BELIEVE THIS IS A DESIGN DEFAULT AND SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO. I HAVE HEARD MANY PEOPLE COMPLAINING OF THIS SAME THING. I ENDED UP PAYING $99 FOR LABOR, $69.50 FOR THE PULLEY, AND $25 FOR THE BRACKET. THIS PART FAILING AT 35,000 MILES IS UNACCEPTABLE. *TR
THE SUN VISOR NO LONGER STAYS IN THE MID-POSITION. WHEN FLIPPING IT DOWN, IT WILL ONLY GO IN ONE POSITION - COMPLETELY DOWN. LUCKILY I AM SHORT AND CAN SEE UNDER IT TO DRIVE, ALTHOUGH IT PREVENTS MY BEING ABLE TO SEE VERY FAR AHEAD WITHOUT HAVING TO DIP MY HEAD TO DO SO. IF I WERE ANY TALLER, THIS WOULD BE A MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM. THERE IS APPARENTLY NO FIX FOR THIS WITHOUT REPLACING THE WHOLE VISOR, WHICH I AM TOLD IS UNREASONABLY EXPENSIVE. *TR
