DT: THE CONSUMER OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER ONE MONTH AGO AND SINCE THEN HAS BEEN UNABLE TO GET THE RECALL REPAIRS DONE. THE DEALERSHIPS COULD NOT GET THE PARTS TO DO THE RECALL REPAIRS. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE NISSAN MANUFACTURER. SINCE THEN, THE CONSUMER'S WIFE HAD GOTTEN STUCK IN THE VEHICLE AS WELL AS ALMOST BEING INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. NISSAN TOLD THE CONSUMER THAT THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE VEHICLES ACTIONS. THE CONSUMER WAS UNSURE OF WHEN THEY WOULD PERFORM THE RECALL REPAIRS ON THE VEHICLE. NISSAN WAS NOT WILLING TO PROVIDE THE CONSUMER WITH A RENTAL CAR. DT: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY COULD NOT GET GAS TO THE CAR. HAD POWER, BUT IT WOULD NOT TAKE GAS, AND IT STARTED TO JERK LIKE IT WAS GOING TO STALL. THERE WAS A HALF A TANK OF GAS IN THE VEHICLE. WHEN PRESSING THE PEDAL IT WOULD DO ANYTHING. AFTER A COUPLE OF PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL IT WOULD GO, BUT THEN IT STARTED AGAIN. CONSUMER LEFT THE VEHICLE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, THEREFORE COULD NOT FIX IT. THE DEALERSHIP HAD THE VEHICLE FOR ANOTHER DAY, AND ATTEMPTED TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. NISSAN TOLD THE DEALERSHIP TO CHECK THE ELECTRONIC FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM, AND THEY CHECKED IT AND IT DID CODE. *AK *NM
DT: THE CONTACT HAD NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN 05V319000 REPAIRS PERFORMED CONCERNING THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: ALTERNATOR/GENERATOR/REGULATOR. AFTERWARDS, THERE WAS A LOSS OF POWER AND THE ENGINE DIED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM. *AK

THE EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHT AND THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER ABOUT 30 MILES THE CAR "DIED" WHEN I WAS GOING 65 MPH
ON JULY 2, 2005 WARNING LIGHTS COME ON (BRAKE AND ALTERNATOR). SINCE IT WAS BEFORE A LONG WEEKEND (JULY 4) WE COULDN'T DO TOO MUCH UNTIL JULY 5. IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO DELIVER VEHICLE TO ANY DEALER, SO WE WERE FORCED TO PUT IT IN A LOCAL GARAGE. ALTERNATOR FAILED AND BATTERY WAS DEAD AFTER 24,000 MILES AND 17 MONTHS OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED BY A LOCAL MECHANIC, REIMBURSMENT FOR OUR EXPENSES ARE UNDER DISPUTE WITH NISSAN.
DT: THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH HE HIT ROAD DEBRIS AND IT PUNCTURED THE GAS TANK ON HIS 2004 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONSUMER SAW AN ARTICLE IN THE WALL STREET JOURNAL ABOUT A SIMILAR SITUATION. THE VEHICLE WAS FIXED BY A REPAIRMAN. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED NISSAN AND THEY SAID THAT IF THERE WAS A RECALL THEY WOULD CONTACT HIM. THE DEALER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED AT THIS TIME. *AK *JB
TRANSMISSION FOR A 2004 NISSAN MURANO FAILED AT 13,000 MILES.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN MY STREET, MY 2004 MURANO (ONLY 7,000 MILES) LOST ACCELERATION AND I COULD NOT GET DOWN THE STREET. THANKFULLY I WAS NOT ON THE HIGHWAY OR I WOULD HAVE BEEN STRANDED. I ACTUALLY MADE IT TO MY DRIVEWAY WHERE IT STALLED FOR GOOD. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY REPLACED A DEFECTIVE ALTERNATOR. IT WAS ALL COVERED UNDER WARRANTY OF COURSE, BUT I THINK THIS TYPE OF FAILURE COULD BE POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS TO OTHER DRIVERS OF MURANO'S.
(1) I DROVE FROM CHAPEL HILL, NC TO WASHINGTON, DC THE MORNING/AFTERNOON OF THE ALTERNATOR FAILURE. I WAS SITTING IDLE (WITH CAR AND A/C ON) IN FRONT OF THE VIENNA, VA METRO STATION WAITING FOR A FRIEND. I WAS DRIVING MYSELF AND 3 OTHER PEOPLE TO A CONCERT BEING HELD THAT NIGHT (SUNDAY JUNE 26 2005) AT NISSAN PAVILION IN BRISTOWN, VA. (2) AS I PLACED MY CAR IN PARK TO DRIVE AWAY WITH MY 3 FRIENDS INSIDE I NOTICED THAT THE CAR WOULD NOT GO OVER 1 OR 2 MPH. I STEPPED ON THE GAS PEDAL, BUT THE ENGINER WOULD NOT REV. I PLACED THE CAR IN REVERSE...SAME THING. I PLACED THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND THE CAR REVVED. THE BATTERY AND PARKING LIGHT WERE ON. AFTER A FEW MORE ATTEMPTS TO GET THE CAR MOVING I DECIDED TO SHUT IT OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES AND TRY AGAIN. THIS TIME AROUND THE ENGINE WOULD NOT START. (3) I HAD THE CAR TOWED BY AAA TO THE NEAREST NISSAN DEALER. THEY FIXED (REPLACED?) THE ALTERNATOR AND I WAS ABLE TO PICK IT UP AGAIN THAT EVENING.
2004 NISSAN MURANO ALTERNATOR FAILURE AT 18,000 MILES ON ODOMETER.
DURING NOMINAL OPERATIONS, THE BREAK AND BATTERY WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED WHICH WAS A SIGNAL THAT THE ALTERNATOR HAS FAILED. THIS MODEL VEHICLE HAS HAD NUMEROUS ALTERNATOR FAILURES.
TRANSMISSION FAILURE: STARTING AS A CLICKING SOUND FROM THE FRONT, ONLY NOTICEBLE WHEN DRIVING SLOWLY AND WITH OPEN WINDOW AND OCCURING WHEN ACCELERATING OR DECELERATING AND DURING LIGHT TURNS THE DEALER FIRST MISDIAGNOSED IT AS LOOSE STEERING RACK MOUNTING BOLTS, REFERRING TO NISSAN BULLETIN NTBB03-065A. AFTER FIXING THIS, THE CLICKING NOISE STILL WAS THERE AND THE TECHNICIAN FINALLY DIAGNOSED CLICKING NOISE IN THE CVT/ AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CASE. DEALER ACKNOLEDGES THAT TRANSMISSION HAS TO BE REPLACED AND SCHEDULES REPAIR TIMEFRAME WITH 1 WEEK. DEALER WILL NOTIFY WHEN PARTS HAVE ARRIVED.
BATTERY & BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON, FEW HOURS LATER CAR STARTED STALLING, CAR THEN CUT OFF AND WAS JUST IDLE, COULD NOT ACCELERATE, DASH BOARD TURNED OFF, CAR SPUTTERRED THEN TURNED OFF. TAKING CAR TO DEALERSHIP TOMORROW
THE BRAKE AND BATTERY WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 35 MPH. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE ABOUT 15 MORE MILES BEFORE THE CAR APPEARED TO STALL. AFTER PULLING TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, I DETERMINED THAT I WAS STILL ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR, ALBEIT AT A MAXIMUM OF 5 MPH. LUCKILY, I WAS ONLY FIVE BLOCKS FROM HOME AT THE TIME AND WAS ABLE TO SAFELY DRIVE THE CAR AND PARK IT IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE TECHNICIANS DETERMINED THAT THE ALTERNATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE ALTERNATOR WAS REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE AS THE CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY WITH ONLY 6500 MILES.
2004 NISSAN MURANO FAILED TO RUN ON THE HIGHWAY. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. WIFE ON WAY HOME FROM WORK AND THE CAR JUST QUIT ON A BUSY FAST EXIT RAMP OFF I-95. AFTER BEING TOWED TO DEALER THE ALTERNATOR WAS REPLACED. TO COMPLETELY STOP ON THE HIGHWAY TO ME IS A VERY RISKY TYPE OF FAILURE.
THE NISSAN MURANO 2004 SL DOESN'T START THE ENGINE PERIODICALLY. IT DOESN'T HAPPEN ALL THE TIME BUT WHEN IT HAPPENS THE ENGINE WOULD NOT START. I'VE BEE LEFT STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE SEVERAL TIMES ALREADY BETWEEN JUNE 2005 AND AUGUST 2005. I BROUGHT THE CAR FOR REPAIRS FOUR TIME ALREADY. THE FOLLOWING JOBS HAS BEEN PERFORMED: 1) ELECTRIC SYSTEM CHECKED - NOTHING FOUND 2) ALTERNATOR REPLACED AS A PART OF THE RE-CALL 3) KEYS RE-PROGRAMMED SEVERAL TIMES 4) TODAY I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT THEY(KOEPPEL NISSAN AT NYC) WILL TRY TO REPLACE THE TRANSPONDER (IF I UNDERSTAND CORRECTLY, THIS IS PART OF THE SECURITY IMMOBILIZER SYSTEM).- WILL SEE IF THIS ONE WORKS. I PERSONALLY DO THINK THAT THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE IMMOBILIZER SYSTEM - BUT NISSAN REFUSES TO PERFORM THE DETAILED DIAGNOSTICS...TELLING ME THAT IT COULD BE HUNDRED DIFFERENT REASONS WHY THE ENGINE WOULD NOT START. AT THIS POINT I AM GETTING SICK AND TIRED OF THIS ENTIRE PROCESS - WILL FILE FOR BBB ARBITRATION AND THEN FOR THE LAW SUIT AGAINST NISSAN TO RECOVERY MY MONEY AND COMPENSATION FOR NOT BEING ABLE TO USE THE CAR. *NM
MY ALTERNATOR FOR MY NISSAN MURANO 04' SERIES FAILED AT 13K MILES. KNOWN TO BE A DEFECT ON ALL MURANO'S.
BOUGHT 2004 MURANO 31 JAN 2005. DRIVE VEHICLE TO/FROM WORK EACH DAY, 740 PER WEEK. BY MAY HAD PUT 12,000 MILES ON CAR. ONE DAY STARTED MY CAR, THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON (SES) LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR WAS SLUGGISH. TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND BACK ON, SLUGGISHNESS DIMINISHED, LIGHT REMAINED. TOOK CAR TO DEALERSHIP, LIGHT WENT OFF JUST PRIOR TO BRINGING IN. WAS TOLD THE LIGHT WAS BECAUSE GAS CAP NOT ON TIGHT ENOUGH, SO SHOP DID AN OIL CHANGE. FEW WEEKS LATER, LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN, BROUGHT TO ANOTHER SHOP. SAID IT WAS PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE CONTROL SYSTEM, THAT IT WOULD TAKE DAYS TO GET A PART & THEY COULD NOT GIVE LOANER OR RENTAL. HUSBAND CONSULTED OWNER OF DEALERSHIP WHO SUGGESTED REPAIR TEAM TAKE THE PART OFF A 2004 CAR ON THE LOT TO FIX MINE IMMEDIATELY. OVER THE NEXT TWO MONTHS, THE SES LIGHT CAME ON 3 MORE TIMES. THE 1ST TIME WAS TOLD IT WAS JUST "OLD CODES. 2ND TIME, CLEARED CODES AND TOLD ME NOT TO WORRY ABOUT SES LIGHT. CAR WOULD NOT PASS INSPECTION WITH SES LIGHT ON, SO WHEN IT CAME ON 3RD TIME DAY BEFORE INSPECTION, RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE THROTTLE CONTROL NEEDED "ADJUSTING". GOT THE CAR INSPECTED. 6 DAYS LATER, SES LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN WHEN LEAVING WORK TO DRIVE 74 MILES HOME, SLUGGISHNESS THAT PROMPTED FIRST THROTTLE REPAIR RETURNED. COULD NOT REACH OR MAINTAIN SPEED OF THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC. CAR AT SHOP SINCE 05 AUG 2005 BECAUSE OF "PROBLEM" WITH THROTTLE CONTROL IN SERIES OF 2004 MURANOS THAT MINE CAME FROM. THERE''S A NEW PART NEEDED, MY VOLUME OF DRIVING MADE IT APPEAR. TECHNICAL BULLETIN OR NOTICE TO CONSUMERS NEEDED. WHEN FOLKS HIT 13,000 MILES PROBLEM WILL APPEAR AND PART WILL BE ON ORDER (THERE ARE MANY VEHICLES WITH PROBLEM). WAS TOLD PART WOULD SHIP FROM NISSAN 19 AUG 2005 & MIGHT GET MY CAR BACK NEXT WEEK. DEALER COVERING RENTAL CAR. DANGEROUS PROBLEM BECAUSE THE CAR WILL NOT "SHIFT" (OR CVT EQUIVALENT) & THE CAR TACS OUT OVER 4000/WILL NOT ACCELERATE WITHOUT WARNING. *NM
ON 5-25-05 MY RIGHT REAR TIRE BLEW UP ON MY 6 MONTHS OLD, 9700 MILES NISSAN MURANO GOING UPHILL AT 65 MPH ON INTERSTATE 80. CAAA CAME AND TOOK ME TO A GOODYEAR TIRE DEALER 5 MILES AWAY.THEY DO NOT HAVE THE TIRE. THE DEALER CALLED UP 5 GOODYEAR TIRE DEALERS WITHIN 40 MILES RADIUS AND ALL OF THEM DO NOT HAVE IT BUT CAN GET IT THE NEXT DAY AUBURN NISSAN HAS IT AND I GOT IT REPLACED THERE. 5-31-05, I CALLED NISSAN USA CUSTOMER RELATIONS AND THEY TOLD ME TO CALL GOODYEAR GOODYEAY SUPERVISOR SAID THAT I MUST HAVE THE REST OF THE TIRE FOR INSPECTION AND ALSO SAID THAT AUBURN NISSAN IS NOT AGOODYEAR TIRE DEALER. ON 6-13-05 NISSAN USA ASKED ME TO CALL GOODYEAR AGAIN AND THEY SAID THE SAME THING IT IS NOT FAIR THAT I HAVE TO BEAR WITH ALL THESE. 1. MY CAR IS ONLY 6 MONTHS OLD WITH 9700 MILES ON IT 2. MY LAST SERVICE WAS AT DORITO BROS NISSAN ON 3-1-05 3. I AM 120 MILES FROM HOME AND CANNOT WAIT FOR THE NEXT DAY FOR THE NEW TIRE FROM A GOODYEAR TIRE DEALER. 4. 5 GOODYEAR TIRE DEALERS DO NOT HAVE THAT TIRE 5. GOODYEAR INSISTED ON INSPECTING TTHE TIRE AND HOW CAN I GET IT WHEN IT GOT SEPARATED AND ROLL TO THE MIDDLE OF THE DIVIDER. 6. GOODYEAR INSISTED THAT AUBURN NISSAN IS NOT A TIRE DEALER. 7. NISSAN USA SAID THAT IT IS NOT THEIR PROBLEM AND THIS HA TO DO WITH GOODYAER 8. GOODYEAR WAS NOT MY CHOICE 9. NISSAN HAS THE FITTED WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR 10. NISSAN SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE TOO OR NEGIOTIATE WITH GOODYEAR PLEASE KINDLY LOOK INTO THIS, THANKS TONY
PUNCTURED GAS TANK FROM DEBRIS ON HIGHWAY. NO WARNING LIGHTS, ETC.. DROVE 45 MILES LEAKING GAS. DIDN'T REALIZE IT UNTIL WE STOPPED THE CAR AND SMELLED GASOLINE VERY STRONGLY. HAD CAR TOWED TO DEALERSHIP FOR REPLACEMENT OF GAS TANK (WHICH TOOK 3 EFFORTS TO GET IT RIGHT) VERY CONCERNED AS TO HOW EASY IT WAS TO HAVE GAS TANK PUNCTURED, EITHER FROM MATERIAL IT'S MADE OF OR LOCATION. PROBABLY BOTH! *NM
2004 NISSAN MURANO SE AWD WITH ONLY 1901 MILES HAD THE ALTERNATOR FAIL TODAY. THE CAR COMPLETELY LOST POWER LEAVING MY UNABLE TO ACCELERATE OR USE POWER STEERING OR BRAKING FUNCTIONS. OCCURRED ON LOCAL CITY STREETS---HAD THIS OCCURRED ON THE HIGHWAY TRAVELLING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS IT COULD HAVE EASILY LED TO AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS A VERY UNSAFE CONDITION AND SHOULD BE RECTIFIED IMMEDIATELY. DEALER TECH ACKNOWLEDGES THAT THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH THE ALTERNATOR. DEALER HAS ORDERED A REPLACEMENT PART (ALBEIT A REMANUFACTURED ONE AND NOT A NEW ONE) AND WILL BE REPLACING IT TOMORROW. THE
ENGINE STALLED WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. COULD NOT RESTART. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER (STILL UNDER WARRANTY), WHO STATED THAT THE ALTERNATOR FAILED CAUSING THE BATTERY TO FAIL. DEALER REPLACED ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY.
WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH STEERING FAILED. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE WENT ACROSS THE MEDIAN AND COLLIDED HEAD ON INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. DRIVER SUSTAINED A BROKEN FOOT. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. *AK
2004 NISSAN MURANO MILES PER GALLON INTAKE IS DIFFERENT THAN WHAT IS ADVERTISED ON THE WINDOW STICKER ON THE VEHICLE.***TRANSFERRED TO RULEMAKING***. *MR *JB
WHEN YOU ACTIVATE THE HIGH BEAMS BY PRESSING THE LIGHTS STALK TOWARD THE DASH, THE SWITCH FOR TURNING THE LIGHTS ON AND OFF MOVE AND YOUR HEADLIGHTS GO OUT. IT HAS HAPPENED TO MYSELF AND MY WIFE 20 TIMES IN THE PAST YEAR AND WE HAVE ALMOST HAD ACCIDENTS BECAUSE WE CAN NOT SEE NOR CAN ONCOMING CARS SEE US. IT IS A DESIGN FLAW IN THAT THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH MOVES TOO EASILY. *JB
THERE SEEMS TO BE A DEFECT IN THE WIPER SYSTEM ON THE MURANO. AFTER A SNOWSTORM I CLEANED THE WINDSHIELD OF SNOW AND TURNED ON THE WIPERS. SNOW BLEW OFF THE TOP OF THE CAR, THE RIGHT WIPER PUSHED IT DOWN. AS A RESULT THE RIGHT WIPER COULD NOT GO DOWN COMPLETELY. THIS THREW OFF THE TIMING OF THE LEFT AND RIGHT WIPER AND THE TWO GOT TANGLED AND BEND. A NEW LEFT WIPER WAS ORDERED AND PAID FOR FROM NISSAN ON FEB 3, 2004. IN THE MEANTIME THE WIPER WERE BEND BACK INTO POSITION. EARLIER THIS WEEK IT SNOWED AGAIN SAND THE SAME THING HAPPENED AND NOW THE WIPERS ARE TOTALLY MANGLED. IT HAS BEEN OVER 3 WEEKS SINCE I PAID FOR A NEW WIPER AND THE PARTS DEPT AT NISSAN IN ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS NJ TELLS ME THEY ARE ON BACK ORDER AND CANNOT BE OBTAINED. THE SERVICE DEPT AT THE SAME DEALER TELLS ME THE WIPERS SHOULDN'T BE USED WHEN THERE IS SNOW. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF I AM THE ONLY ONE WITH THE PROBLEM WHY IS THERE A BACKORDER. THE CAR CANNOT BE USED IN THE RAIN NOR SNOW. *NM
CONSUMER REPORTS STATES THERE IS A STEERING DEFECT. THEY CONFIRM THIS TO ME IN AN EMAIL THAT THE STEERING CANNOT COPE WITH "FAST STEERING INPUTS" ETC. NISSAN DENIES THIS. CONSUMER REPORTS DOES NOT RECOMMEND BUYING THE CAR FOR THIS REASON. I WOULD LIKE AN HONEST ANSWER AS WE BOUGHT A NEW ONE IN 8/04."MURANO" IS THE MODEL TYPE.*AK

DRIVERS SIDE SUNVISOR ON A 2004 NISSAN MURANO WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, THE SUNVISOR FALLS FROM ITS UPRIGHT POSITION TO THE DOWN POSITION, THUS BLOCKING THE DRIVER'S FIELD OF VIEW, CAUSING A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN. NISSAN HAS ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN (#03-081A) COVERING THESE VISORS, WHICH SHOWS THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, THEY WILL NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT TO REMEDY THIS SITUATION WITHOUT CHARGING THE CONSUMER IN EXCESS OF $400 - $500 TO REPAIR IT. THERE HAS NOT BEEN A WRECK YET, BUT ITS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME WHEN THE DRIVER CANNOT SEE. WE HAVE BEEN TO THE SERVICE DEPT ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS, BUT THEY WILL NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MURANO. SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED, THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM INDICATED THAT THE TIRES BECAME FLAT WHEN THE TEMPERATURE WAS AT 36 DEGREES OR BELOW. THE LOWER THE TEMPERATURE, THE MORE THE SYSTEM WOULD INDICATE THAT THE PRESSURE WAS LOW ALTHOUGH IT WAS NOT. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY ADVISED HER ADD AIR TO THE TIRE UNTIL IT REACHED 38 PSI. SHE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ENGINEERS HAD NOT ADDRESSED THE ISSUE AND TO OVER INFLATE THE TIRES. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 46,600. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 6,000.
I PURCHASED A NISSAN MURANO 2004 SUV. WHEN STEERING, MOSTLY AT LOW SPEEDS MY CAR LOOSES ITS POWER STEERING. ON AND OFF THE STEERING WHEEL GETS HEAVIER. SINCE TAKING DELIVERY OF OUR 2004 NISSAN MURANO SL AWD ON DECEMBER 5TH 2004, THE POWER STEERING HAS BECOME LOUDER. IN ADDITION, THE STEERING IS SURGING WHILE CORNERNING. AFTER TAKING THE CAR IN TO THE DEALERSHIP, WE WERE TOLD THAT THE POWER STEERING LINE FROM THE PUMP TO THE RACK AND PINION WAS LOOSE, AND LEAKING.
MY 2004 NISSAN MURANO BEGAN HAVING A "TINNY" NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR. I THOUGHT THAT PERHAPS THE INSULATION HAD FALLEN DOWN, AND TOOK THE CAR IN FOR SERVICING ON 1-13-05 TO FERMAN NISSAN IN TAMPA, FLORIDA. I WAS TOLD THAT THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT REPAIR THE DOOR, AS THE DOOR BEAM WAS BROKEN, AND THAT THE BODY SHOP WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE A DOOR BEAM. IN DECEMBER 2004, THE CAR HAD BEEN INVOLVED IN MINOR VANDALISM. A BRICK HAD BEEN THROWN AT THE REAR OF THE CAR, AND THERE WAS SAND ON THE PASSENGER DOOR. THERE WAS BARELY A DIMPLE ON THE EXTERIOR OF THE DOOR, BUT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SURMISED THAT SOMEONE KICKED THE DOOR, WHICH WAS WHY THERE WAS SAND, AND THAT THE DOOR BEAM WAS BROKEN IN THE PROCESS. I TOOK THE CAR TO A BODY SHOP FOR AN ESTIMATE IN APRIL 2004, AND THEY WERE SURPRISED THAT THE DOOR BEAM COULD HAVE BEEN SO EASILY BROKEN, AS THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A SAFETY FEATURE OF THE CAR. I WAS TOLD THAT BECAUSE IT WAS A SAFETY FEATURE, A DOOR BEAM CANNOT BE REPAIRED, AND THAT THE DOOR WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. I CONTACTED NISSAN USA IN ON APRIL 7, 2005, AND EXPLAINED MY CONCERNS THAT THE DOOR BEAM COULD BE SO EASILY BROKEN, WITH BARELY A MARK ON THE EXTERIOR, AND THIS WOULD NOT PROTECT PASSENGERS IN A CRASH SITUATION. I OFFERED THEM THE OPPORTUNITY TO INSPECT THE DOOR, AS A POSSIBLE MANUFACTURING DEFECT, AND POSSIBLY PAY TO REPLACE IT, BUT, PER COLLETTE, THEY WERE NOT INTERESTED IN INSPECTING THE DOOR. NEITHER WAS THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP, FERMAN NISSAN IN TAMPA, FLORIDA. HOWEVER, I WANTED TO BE SURE THAT THIS INCIDENT WAS RECORDED SOMEWHERE, AS I AM STILL CONCERNED THAT THE DOOR BEAM COULD BE SO EASILY BROKEN, CAUSING A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD. I HAVE SINCE HAD THE DOOR REPLACED, AND THE EXPENSE WAS COVERED BY MY INSURANCE COMPANY.
DT: THE ENGINE STALLED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OF 35 MPH. NO WARNING LIGHTS HAD COME ON, PRIOR TO THE ENGINE STALLING. THE HEATER MOTOR BLOWER STOPPED WORKING AND ABOUT 20 MINUTES LATER, THE ENGINE STALLED. THE STEERING WAS LOST. LUCKILY I WAS IN BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC SO THE SPEED WAS ONLY ABOUT 10 MPH BUT I THINK THAT HAD I BEEN GOING 65 THAT THE POTENTIAL FOR AN ACCIDENT ETC. WOULD BE VERY LIKELY. YOU LOSE ALL ABILITY TO ACCELERATE, IMAGINE PULLING OFF ONTO A STREET WITH A FAILURE LIKE THIS AND A CAR COMING IN THE OTHER DIRECTION? STEERING IS SLIGHLY COMPROMISED AS WELL. I TRIED BOOSTING IT AND THE MURANO DID TURN ON BUT THE CAR DID NOT GO ANYWHERE. I DID SEND IT THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP AND NISSAN OF JERSEY CITY, N.J. DID FIX MY PROBLEM IN A VERY QUICK MANNER. I RECENTLY HAD MY 2004 MURANO AT 12,000 MILES TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE BRAKE LIGHT AND BATTERY LIGHT WENT ON, ON THE WAY TO WORK IN THE MORNING AND CONTINUED TO BE ON ALL DAY. BEING THAT THERE WAS NO SIGN OF TROUBLE EXCEPT FOR THE WARNING LIGHT AND NO NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN THE AREA OF WHERE I WORK I PROCEEDED THROUGH MY DAY. I HEADED HOME AND CAME TO A STOP SIGN AND WENT TO GO ACCELERATE AND WENT NO WHERE AS IF I WAS IN NEUTRAL. I IDLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD SO I COULD TURN THE TRUCK ON AND OFF AND STILL I COULD NOT ACCELERATE. I IDLED TO MY HOUSE FORTUNATELY WAS AROUND THE CORNER AND CALLED THE DEALERSHIP. THE SERVICE PERSON ASKED IF I COULD GO IN REVERSE SO I TRIED AND I COULD. I PUT IT IN DRIVE AND SURPRISINGLY WAS ABLE TO GO FORWARD SO I WAS TOLD TO BRING IT IN IMMEDIATELY. ON MY WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP ON THE HIGHWAY DOING 65 TO 70 IN THE EVENING TRAFFIC WENT TO ACCELERATE AND WENT NO WHERE!!! I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC DOING 5 MPH WITH NO WAY GETTING TO THE SHOULDER WHICH WAS SO DANGEROUS. FINALLY A KIND PERSON LET ME GO IDLE TO THE SIDE TO WHERE I COULD CALL A TOW TRUCK. AS I WAS SITTING WAITING FOR A TOW TRUCK, I TRIED TO TURN THE TRUCK ON BUT IT WOULD NOT TURN OVER. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THIS PROBLEM IS NOT BEING REMEDIED AS IT SHOULD BE BEFORE A PERSON LOSSES A LIFE. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT IS CONTINUING THROUGH THE MODELS.
