FOUR OUT OF FIVE OF THE DOOR LOCKS ON MY 2005 NISSAN MURANO DO NOT WORK AND THE DRIVERS SIDE SUN VISOR FALLS DOWN EVERYTIME THE CAR MOVES. BOTH ARE SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUES. *TR
1. THE EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE. - ALL I DID WAS SIT ON THE SEAT AND RAISE IT TO A DIFFERENT HEIGHT. 2. THE FAILURE, HOW OFTEN IT OCCURS, ITS CONSEQUENCES; AND, - THE METAL FRAME BROKE UNDERNEATH THE SEAT RESULTING IN THE DRIVERS SEAT ROCKING BACK AND FORTH. 3. WHAT WAS DONE TO CORRECT THE FAILURE; I.E, PARTS REPAIRED OR REPLACED (AND IF OLD PART IS AVAILABLE) NOTHING AT THIS TIME, THE DEALER WANTS OVER 1,000 DOLLARS TO REPLACE THE SEAT FRAME. I'M CONSIDERING WELDING THE SEAT AT THIS TIME. *TR
DRIVING THROUGH A PARKING LOT AND OVER A SPEED BUMP WHEN THE DRIVER'S SEAT SUDDENLY SLID ALL THE WAY BACK ON THE TRACK AND STARTED LEANING TO LEFT. *TR
ON JULY 17, 2010 THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT HAD FAILED ON MY 2005 NISSAN MURANO. THE DRIVER'S SEAT FRAME HAD BROKEN CAUSING THE SEAT TO ROCK FROM SIDE TO SIDE AND FRONT TO BACK. THE SEAT HAS A FACTORY DEFECT CAUSING THE FRAME TO FAIL. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS FOR THE 2004, 2005 2006 AND 2007 NISSAN MURANO WITH THE SAME FAILURE. THIS IS TERRIBLY DANGEROUS AND WILL CAUSE LOSS OF CONTROL AND LIFE THREATENING. FORTUNATELY FOR ME, I WAS DRIVING IN A PARKING LOT AND GOING RATHER SLOW. ON JULY 26, 2010 I HAD THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP REPAIR THE SEAT AND REPLACED THE DEFECTIVE PART. THE COST WAS $471.43. *TR
DRIVER'S DOOR AND REAR PASSENGER DOOR LOCKS WILL NOT LOCK WHEN ACTUATED FROM THE DOOR POWER LOCK OR THE REMOTE POWER LOCK. THIS IS A DANGER BECAUSE IT MEANS DOOR LOCKS CAN NOT BE RELIED TO POWER LOCK OR UNLOCK IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY. *TR
DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR ON MY 2005 NISSAN MURANO HAS LOOSENED AND FALLS IN THE DRIVER'S LINE OF SIGHT UNEXPECTEDLY. IT HAS BEEN VERTIFIED BY THE DEALERSHIP AT A COST OF ALMOST $500. NISSAN HAS BEEN CONTACTED AND HAS REFUSED TO COVER THE REPLACEMENT. IT IS A SAFELY HAZZARD SINCE IT BLOCKS THE DRIVER'S VISION AND FALLS WITHOUT WARNING. IT WILL NOT STAY WHERE IT SHOULD, EITHER UP OR DOWN, AND IS PRACTICALLY IN THE DRIVER'S FACE WHEN IT FALLS. EVIDENTLY IT IS AN ISSUE THAT HAS OCCURED IN NISSAN MURANOS SINCE 2003 AND THE MANUFACTURER KNOWS ABOUT IT AND HAS NOT TAKEN APPROPRIATE ACTION TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM WITH SUCCESSIVE MODELS NOR TO COVER THE COST FOR THOSE OWNERS WHOSE AUTOS ARE OUT OF WARRANTY. AS WITH ANY RECALL ISSUE, IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN MURANO. THE BRACKET WELD UNDER THE DRIVE SEAT WAS SNAPPED SUDDENLY. THE DRIVE SEAT IS LOPSIDED TO THE LEFT WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE TO INSERT SOME WOOD BLOCKS UNDERNEATH THE SEAT TO KEEP IT LEVEL. *TR
THE LOCKS ON MY 2005 NISSAN MURANO HAVE STARTED TO NOT WORK UNLESS MANUALLY OPERATED. FIRST, THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN OR CLOSE WITH EITHER THE BUTTON OR KEY FOB, ONLY MANUALLY, AND THEN IT WAS STIFF. THIS WENT ON FOR SEVERAL MONTHS AND THEN THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR ALSO BEGAN TO FAIL, ONLY OPERATING MANUALLY. SHORTLY THEREAFTER THE REAR HATCH/TRUNK DOOR ALSO INTERMITTENTLY FAILS TO OPEN, THOUGH WITH THE REAR DOOR, THERE IS NO MANUAL OPEN. THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP INSPECTED IT AND INSISTS THAT THE DOOR ACTUATORS NEED TO BE REPLACED ON ALL AFFECTED DOORS, WHICH IS VERY EXPENSIVE. AND UPON DOING ONLINE RESEARCH, THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON MURANO'S AND OTHER NISSAN VEHICLES. THE LOCK PROBLEM PRESENTS A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD OF NOT BEING ABLE TO OPEN DOORS IN A TIMELY MANNER IN CASE OF FIRE, AND ALSO IN RETRIEVING INFANTS AND CHILDREN FROM THE CAR, WHICH I DO ON A DAILY BASIS. IN ADDITION, IF MORE DOOR LOCKS WERE TO FREEZE UP, THERE IS ONLY ONE MANUAL KEY ENTRY INTO THE CAR. *TR

DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR FLIPS DOWN TO BLOCK DRIVERS VIEW. 2005 NISSAN MURANO. OCCURS DAILY. NEED REPAIR. *TR
MY DRIVER SIDE SEAT IN MY 2005 NISSAN MURANO WITH 57, 000 HAS A BROKEN BRACKET. THE SEAT TILTS BACK AND FORTH ON THE LEFT SIDE, WHICH MAKE IT IMPOSSIBLE AND UNSAFE TO DRIVE. *TR
I OWN A 2005 NISSAN MURANO SE AWD AND HAVE EXPERIENCED PROGRESSIVE PROBLEMS WITH MY DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS RESULTING IN AN UNSAFE VEHICLE PRESUMED TO BE SECURE. AT APPROXIMATELY 50K MILES, THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER DOOR LOCK BECAME INTERMITTENTLY INOPERATIVE WHEN USING EITHER THE INTERIOR DOOR LOCK SWITCH OR THE INTELLIGENT KEY FOB BUTTON. THEN, AT APPROXIMATELY 54K MILES, THE RIGHT REAR PASSENGER DOOR LOCK ALSO BECAME INTERMITTENTLY INOPERATIVE IN THE SAME MANNER. NOW, AT 59K MILES, ALL DOORS EXCEPT THE DRIVER'S DOOR DO NOT OPERATE WITH EITHER THE INTERIOR DOOR LOCK SWITCH OR THE INTELLIGENT KEY FOB BUTTON. RECENTLY, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT, WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED IT AS A PROBLEM WITH THE DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR. FURTHER, I WAS TOLD THAT THE FRONT RIGHT DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR IS A CONTROL POINT FOR ALL OTHER DOOR LOCKS. THIS IS OF GREAT CONCERN AS I WAS ASSUMING, AS I'M SURE OTHERS HAVE, THAT I WAS DRIVING IN A SECURE VEHICLE WHEN IN FACT, I WAS UNSECURED FROM FOUR OTHER ENTRY POINTS TO MY VEHICLE. THIS POSES A THREAT TO MY AND ANY OF MY PASSENGERS' PRESUMED PERSONAL SAFETY FROM WOULD-BE ASSAILANTS GAINING ACCESS TO THE VEHICLE THROUGH LOCKS THOUGHT TO BE SECURE. THIS COULD ALSO HAVE SERIOUS - EVEN FATAL - RAMIFICATIONS IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT IF THE DOORS OF THE VEHICLE ARE THOUGHT TO BE LOCKED (HAVING NO REASON TO BELIEVE OTHERWISE), BUT WERE NOT. THIS CREATES THE SERIOUS POTENTIAL OF OCCUPANTS TO BE THROWN FROM A VEHICLE DOOR THAT COULD OPEN DURING AN ACCIDENT DUE TO FAULTY DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS. EVEN IN MY SHORT SEARCH ONLINE, I HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS CALLS FOR ACTION BY OTHER DRIVERS, PARTICULARLY OF THE 2004-2005 MODEL YEARS OF MY SAME VEHICLE. THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED OCCURRENCE. IMMEDIATE CORRECTIVE REMEDIAL ACTION MUST BE TAKEN BY NISSAN USA TO RESOLVE THIS LIFE-THREATENING DEFECT. *TR
THE RIGHT SUN VISOR IN MY 2005 NISSAN MURANO FALLS DOWN. MY HUSBAND ABOUT TURNED INTO A CAR BECAUSE THIS THING AS IN HIS LINE OF VISION. NOT SAFE AND A PIECE OF JUNK FOR A SUN VISOR. I HAD TO REPLACE THE DRIVER SIDE ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO.. *TR
SUN VISOR ON DRIVER SIDE HAS FAILED CAUSING IT TO SUDDENLY DROP AND OBSTRUCT THE VIEW OF THE ROAD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING ABOUT 20-25 MPH WHEN THE DRIVERS SIDE SEAT ANCHOR BROKE. THE SEAT BEGAN TO ROCK AND REPEATLY HIT THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. THE SEAT WAS LOWERED TO THE LOWEST POSITION TO STOP THE ROCKING. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND THE VEHICLE WAS SCHEDULED TO BE TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON JULY 1. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY TOLD HER THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THE VEHICLE AND GAVE HER A REPORT NUMBER. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 72,000.

THE DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS ARE NOT WORKING ON MY 2005 NISSAN MURANO. I CAN OPEN THE TRUNK. *TR
SINCE SPRING 2009, OUR 2005 NISSAN MURANO PASSENGER DOOR LOCK HAS BEEN FAILING TO OPEN WHEN USING EITHER THE REMOTE KEY FOB OR THE DRIVER DOOR LOCK. ALSO REAR HATCH HAS BEEN SIMILARLY FAILING TO UNLOCK/LOCK. SITUATION HAS PROGRESSED FROM 20-30% OF THE TIME TO 90% OF THE TIME FAILING TO FUNCTION. *TR
NISSAN MURANO VIN-[XXX] - DRIVER SIDE FRONT SEAT REAR FRAME DEFECT MY VEHICLE DRIVER SIDE REAR SEAT FRAME BROKE ON 06/19/2010 APPROXIMATELY AROUND NOONTIME. AS I WAS DRIVING MY MURANO NISSAN AND CAME TO A STOP AT A STOPLIGHT, I HEARD A HARD SNAP AND FELT A LITTLE JERK TOWARDS MY LEFT SIDE. UNSURE OF WHAT IT WAS, I CONTINUED TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE DOWN THE ROAD. AS I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE, I FELT A ROUGH THUMPING UNDERNEATH MY SEAT. I THOUGHT FOR A MINUTE THAT MY FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE WAS GOING FLAT OR HAD SOME KIND OF PROBLEM. AS I DROVE FURTHER TO FIND A SAFE PLACE TO PULL OVER TO CHECK IT, I FELT MY FRONT SEAT SWAY BACK AND FORTH, AS I ACCELERATED AND AS I WAS BRAKING. I ACCELERATED AGAIN TO MAKE SURE THAT THE SWAYING MOTION WAS ACTUALLY HAPPENING. AGAIN, THE SWAYING MOTION (BACK AND FORTH) OF THE FRONT SEAT OCCURRED. I LOOKED UNDERNEATH THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE REAR SEAT AND SAW WHAT LOOKED LIKE A BLACK METAL TRACK FRAME SUPPORTING THE SEAT. IN THE AREA TOWARDS THE REAR LEFT SIDE OF THE FRAME WAS ONE OF FOUR METAL PRONGS THAT WERE BROKEN AWAY FROM THE METAL TRACK FRAME OF THE SEAT. KNOWING THAT THIS WAS A VERY UNSAFE ISSUE, I LOOKED FOR HELP TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. USING THE INTERNET, I FOUND NUMEROUS SHOCKING COMPLAINTS SITES REGARDING NISSAN MURANOS' REAR SEAT BREAKAGE. I CONTACTED A LOCAL NEWS STATION (3ONYOURSIDE), WHO INVESTIGATED THE ISSUE AND FOUND IT TO BE LEGITIMATE AND TRUE. NOT ONLY WAS MY VEHICLE IN QUESTION ABOUT THE DEFECTIVE PART, SEVERAL HUNDRED COMPLAINTS WERE FOUND THROUGHOUT THE INTERNET. NISSAN MURANO 2005 FRONT DRIVER SEAT HAS COME LOOSE ON ONE SIDE, IS LOPSIDED AND ROCKS BACK AND FORTH WHILE CAR IS IN MOTION,WHILE TURNING,BRAKING AND WHEN IT COMES TO A STOP. EVEN WHILE YOU ARE WEARING YOUR SEAT BELT YOU HAVE NO SAFETY RESTRAINT AS YOUR BODY IS PROJECTED FORWARD AND SIDEWAYS FROM YOUR SEAT WHILE DRIVING. I WEIGH 170 AND MY WIFE, WHO IS THE PRIMARY DRIVER WEIGHS 125 LBS. DURING ONE DRIVING INCIDENT,MY WIFE WAS AVERTING A TREE LIMB ON THE ROAD AND MADE A QUICK, BUT SLOW TURN ONLY TO BE JOSTLED TO THE SIDE OF THE CAR AND HITTING HER HEAD ON THE DRIVER WINDOW. LUCKILY SHE WAS NOT INJURED AS THE TURN WAS MINIMAL. NOTHING EXTRAORDINARY HAPPENED TO LEAD TO THE SEAT BREAK. ONE DAY MY WIFE SAT IN THE SEAT AND NOTICED IT FELT FUNNY. THE SEAT REPAIR IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. COST OF REPAIR WOULD BE UPWARDS OF $1200. AN AMOUNT WE CANNOT AFFORD. *LN

DRIVER'S SEAT FRAME BROKE WHILE DRIVING. THE SEAT ROCKED BACKWARDS AND WAS UNSTABLE DURING TURNS. IT BROKE DURING CITY DRIVING. I BELIEVE IF IT HAPPENED DURING HIGHWAY DRIVING, SOMEONE MIGHT LOOSE CONTROL OF THE CAR. *TR
DRIVERS SIDE VISOR DROPS DOWN WITHOUT WARNING, INCLUDING WHILE DRIVING. OCCURS DURING HOT WEATHER, COLD WEATHER, ON SHORT DRIVES OR LONG ~ NO CONSISTENCY. UNSCREWED THE VISOR TO ATTEMPT TO FIND LOOSE SCREWS, NONE OF WHICH THERE WERE. ATTEMPTED TO USE VELCRO TO SECURE VISOR TO INTERIOR ROOF, BUT DID NOT STICK DUE TO CLOTH INTERIOR LINING OF ROOF. *TR
DOOR LOCKS STARTING WITH DRIVERS SIDE PASSENGER AND NOW THE DRIVER DOOR WILL NOT LOCK OR UNLOCK UNLESS MANUALLY CHANGED WITH LEVER OR KEY. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED PASSENGER DOORS ARE RANDOM HOWEVER ARE STARTING TO SHOW SIMILAR SIGNS THANKS IN ADVANCE. *JS
2005 NISSAN MURANO DOOR LOCKS FAIL TO LOCK AND UNLOCK. I HAVE A 2005 MURANO AND THE DOOR LOCKS RECENTLY HAVE STOPPED WORKING. THE LOCK WILL NOT LOCK OR UNLOCK WITH THE REMOTE OR WITH THE DOOR LOCK BUTTON ON DRIVER OR PASSENGER DOOR. THIS IS EVEN A BIGGER PROBLEM HAVING A 2 YEAR OLD IN THE VEHICLE AND THE ONLY WAY TO UNLOCK THE DOOR IS MANUALLY. SINCE THERE IS NO KEY HOLE ON THE REAR DOORS YOU HAVE TO CLIMB THROUGH THE VEHICLE TO LOCK THE DOOR. I CAN'T EVEN LOCK THE DOOR IF SHE MANUALLY MOVES THE LOCK WITH HER HAND I CAN'T LOCK IT FROM THE DRIVER SIDE CONTROL. THE PROBLEM STARTED WITH THE DRIVER LOCK, THEN PROGRESSED TO THE REAR RIGHT DOOR, NOW THREE OF THE 4 DOORS ARE AFFECTED AND ALSO THE REAR HATCH. IT IS NOT AN OPTION TO OPEN IF YOU CAN'T USE THE UNLOCK BUTTON. THERE IS NO MANUAL RELEASE BUTTON TO UNLOCK THE HATCH. THIS CAN A PUBLIC PROBLEM FOR EVER ATTEMPTING TO GET A CHILD OUT OF A CAR IN THE CASE OF ANY EMERGENCY. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN MURANO. MY DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR IS BROKEN FOR NO APPARENT REASON AND WILL NOT STAY UP. IT RANDOMLY FALLS DOWN WHILE I AM DRIVING WITH NO WARNING. I DRIVE OVER 120 MILES A DAY, AND AM SCARED THAT I AM GOING TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT. THIS PART IS ALSO $300 + TO REPLACE!! *TR

IT WAS VERY SCARY TO DRIVE IT - I TOOK IT TO THE NISSAN DEALER & THEY SAID A NEW SEAT FRAME WOULD BE $1300 BUT THEY COULD WELD IT FOR $350. MY CAR ONLY HAS 29,800 MILES. LOOKING AT ALL THE SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET, I 'M WONDERING WHY NISSAN HASN'T ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS. *TR
SEAT BRACKET FOR 2005 NISSAN MURANO POWER FRONT SEAT BROKE CAUSING INSTABILITY FOR DRIVER WHEN DRIVING. THERE WERE NO DEATHS OR INJURIES, BUT DRIVING IN SUCH AN UNSTABLE CONDITION IN THE MOUNTAINOUS ROADS OF EAST TENNESSEE COULD VERY EASILY RESULT IN DEATH OR DISMEMBERMENT. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN MURANO. MY DRIVER SIDE SEAT JUST SUDDENLY BROKE WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I SPOKE TO ANOTHER NISSAN MURANO OWNER AND SHE TOLD ME HERS DID THE SAME THING AND NISSAN CHARGED HER $500 TO REPLACE IT. 2005 NISSAN MURANO - FRONT DRIVER SEAT BROKEN . I WAS DRIVING AND IN THE PROCESS OF MAKING A LEFT TURN WHEN I FELT MY CAR SEAT COME LOOSE. THE CAR HAS ABOUT 105,000 MILES AND IS APPROXIMATELY 5 YEARS OLD. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY HAZARD. IF I WERE TO GET INTO A CAR ACCIDENT, I CAN GET SERIOUSLY HURT. *TR

I WOULD LIKE TO REPORT A SAFETY ISSUE WITH MY 2005 NISSAN MURANO. AROUND JUNE 1, 2010 I STARTED EXPERIENCING AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM WITH THE POWER DOOR LOCK ON THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR. AT THIS TIME THE POWER LOCKING ACTUATOR HAS COMPLETELY STOPPED WORKING AND THE DOOR HAS TO BE LOCKED OR UNLOCKED MANUALLY. FAILURE OF THE LOCKING MECHANISM CAN LEAD TO THE DOOR OPENING AT AN UNDESIRED TIME CAUSING INJURY OR DEATH TO PASSENGERS IN THE VEHICLE. THIS IS THE REASON FOR MY REPORT TO THE NHTSA. AFTER RESEARCHING THE ISSUE ON THE INTERNET I FOUND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES. I FEEL, AS DO OTHER PEOPLE I HAVE SPOKEN TO REGARDING THIS PROBLEM THAT NISSAN SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIR OF THE ISSUE IF IN FACT IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM DUE TO A PARTS DEFECT. I AM HAVING THE INOPERATIVE LOCK REPLACED BUT HAVE FOUND OUT IN MANY INSTANCES ALL THE DOORS AT ONE TIME EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM. *TR
POWER DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR FAILED AT 73,000 MILES, THIS EFFECTS BOTH PASSENGER AND REAR HATCH ACTUATORS WILL WORK IN COLD WEATHER. *TR
RECENTLY, THE SUN VISOR ON OUR 2005 NISSAN MURANO STARTED FALLING DOWN SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAPPENS FREQUENTLY - EVERY FEW HUNDRED FEET ON A PAVED, BUMPY ROAD. SMOOTH INTERSTATE LANES DO NOT AFFECT, BUT HIT 1 BUMP AND YOU'LL HAVE THE VISOR IN YOUR FACE. THIS VISOR OBSTRUCTS THE VIEW OF ANYONE TALLER THAN 5'4" IMMEDIATELY. THIS CAR ONLY HAS 58,500 MILES ON IT. I TOOK IT TO THE NISSAN DEALER, HE SAID THEY'D SEEN THIS BEFORE BUT NISSAN DID NOT COVER REPLACEMENT, THE NISSAN PRICE FOR THE DRIVER'S SIDE ONLY FOR THIS VISOR WAS QUOTED AT $380.00. HE SUGGESTED I TRY A SALVAGE YARD OR EBAY TO FIND ONE CHEAPER. AS I WENT ON-LINE TO INVESTIGATE, I FOUND FORUM AFTER FORUM OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS SAME ISSUE. RESPONSE WAS MOSTLY THE SAME - NO CORRECTIVE MEASURES WERE OFFERED BY NISSAN, MANY HAD REPLACED THE VISOR - ONLY TO HAVE THE REPLACEMENT FAIL AS WELL. I FELT THIS TO BE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT, SO I FILED A COMPLAINT ON THE NISSAN WEBSITE. TODAY THEY TOLD ME THEY WEREN'T OFFERING ANY ADJUSTMENT OR COMPENSATION ON RESOLVING THIS ISSUE. THAT'S WHEN I EXPRESSED MY DISSATISFACTION AND TOLD THEM I WOULD BE FILING A COMPLAINT WITH YOU. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE A LEGITIMATE SAFETY CONCERN DUE TO IMMEDIATE AND ALMOST TOTAL VIEW OBSTRUCTION WHEN THE VISOR FALLS. EVEN IF THE DRIVER IS SHORT, IT IS AN OBVIOUS DISTRACTION. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN MURANO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH THE FRONT DRIVERS BEGAN TO SHAKE. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER AND UPON EXAMINATION HE NOTICED THE SEAT WAS DETACHED FROM THE MOUNTING TRACKS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE FRONT DRIVERS SEAT DETACHED FROM THE MOUNTING TRACKS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 63,000.
THE FAILURE IS WITH MY 2005 NISSAN MURANO. THE SUN VISOR ON THE DRIVER SIDE NO LONGER WORKS PROPERTY AND DROPS DOWN BLOCKING MY EYE LINE. SEAT BRACKET BROKE CAUSING SEAT TO WOBBLE SIDE TO SIDE, WEAKENING OTHER POINTS OF ATTACHMENT. I HAD THE SEAT BRACKET WELDED TWICE SO FAR AND IT HAS REBROKEN TWICE. INTERNET RESEARCH REVEALED THAT THESE BRACKETS BREAK VERY FREQUENTLY IN 2003-2008 NISSAN MURANOS, EVEN THOSE WITH VERY LOW MILEAGE. NISSAN RECOGNIZES THAT THIS IS A FAULTY DESIGN, AS THEIR REPLACEMENT PART IS MUCH STRONGER AND TOTALLY DIFFERENT, YET NO RECALL. QUITE A SAFETY ISSUE WHEN YOUR SEAT COMES LOOSE WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING! I OWN A 2005 NISSAN MURANO THAT I BOUGHT USED FROM CARMAX IN 2007. I HAVE HAD REGULAR SERVICE PERFORMED BY AN ASCE CERTIFIED MECHANIC SINCE THEN. ON 5/18/10 AT LESS THAN 45K MI, THE BASE OF MY DRIVER SEAT SUDDENLY BROKE ONE MORNING WHEN I GOT INTO THE CAR (PARKED IN MY GARAGE). I WEIGH <120 LBS AND WAS STUNNED. IT WAS AN OBVIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN SERIOUS INJURY, SO I HAD IT REPAIRED IMMEDIATELY (5/20) THROUGH MY REGULAR MECHANIC. TOTAL COST WAS $942.66 ($742.08 FOR THE PART & $127.50 FOR LABOR). I WAS EXTREMELY UPSET ABOUT BEING FORCED TO PAY SO MUCH FOR SOMETHING BEYOND MY CONTROL. EVERYONE AGREED THAT IT SHOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED, EVEN MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED IT WAS CLASSIFIED AS A MECHANICAL DEFECT, CHECKED RECALLS (NONE), AND SUGGESTED I CALL NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS SPECIFICALLY TO REQUEST GOODWILL ASSISTANCE (COMPENSATION FOR REPAIRS). ALL ASSURED ME THEY WERE URGENTLY REQUESTING THE REGIONAL SPECIALIST/SUPERVISOR TO CONTACT ME. I RE-CONTACTED MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP AT THAT POINT, WHO THEN ATTEMPTED TO CALL ON MY BEHALF AND SEEK ASSISTANCE THROUGH THEIR AREA REPRESENTATIVE. AFTER THE 7TH CALL, MS. JIMENEZ (RUDE) CALLED BACK TO EXPLAIN THAT NISSAN'S POLICY DOESN'T ALLOW COMPENSATION FOR REPAIRS NOT HANDLED BY NISSAN, EVEN THOUGH NISSAN EMPLOYEES TOLD ME DIFFERENTLY AND WERE CALLING ON MY BEHALF. I WANT COMPENSATION FOR THE $942.66 I PAID FOR A MANUFACTURER'S MECHANICAL BREAKDOWN-SEAT BASE SHOULD NOT HAVE BROKEN- WHICH COULD HAVE CAUSED SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH TO ME/MY PASSENGERS.
