NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2014 Nissan Pathfinder. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
Driver's side (left) rear trailing arm broke away from the rear subframe mount due to excessive rust and corrosion. In addition to the failed trailing arm mount location, the mount to the body in the same location also rusted through.
I was sold this car by Edwin Giraudo at Thundercars dealer without being notified of a safety recall. He did not offer to fix the issue at all or notify us of the issue. On the way home the same day we noticed that the hood started to slightly come up and after my own investigation I found that it was a recall and it's affecting the transmission due to all the debris and dust.
I was traveling posted speed limit of 65 suddenly the tac was rising and speed was decreasing i stopped on shoulder and the car would not move in drive or reverse then after I stopped the check engine light came on no issues prior to this purchased car 4 days prior to this incident the codes that auto zone pulled were po776 po965 p2813 p0841all related to the cvt transmission which I have now seen this has been a reoccurring problem I see they did a recall for 2013 models and also where they replaced 67 that were still on dealership property looks like their needed to be a recall in 2014 as well guess they didn't want to have a loss two years back to back let the consumers pay the price for them not to look bad
When you are driving down the road, the transmission does not want to shift into any gears. There is a major slip when it is supposed to be shifting.
I purchased a 2014 Nissan PathFinder SUV from Dominguez Pro Advisory LLC located at 19200 SW 106th Avenue, Miami, Fl. 33157-Bay- # 22-23 on [XXX] and the transmission is bad. I replace two parts one called motor mount and the other air intake. I called and spoke with the owner Ceaser Dominguez on January 24, 2026 at 3:03 pm and he stated that he could not do anything when this vehicle only has 12 days of purchase. I took the vehicle to a transmission place called American INT Transmission and spoke with Carlos Martinez and he ran the computer and the code that came up was P17F0 which is CVT Judder (T/M INSPECTION ) TRANSMISSION PROBLEM INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that while reversing, the vehicle failed to shift into gear, and the vehicle was stuck in traffic. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, and it was determined that the transmission fluid was black, and there were metal shavings inside the transmission fluid. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 183,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that while attempting to accelerate after a stop, the vehicle jolted while the accelerator pedal was depressed. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to restart the vehicle, and the vehicle was taken to a local independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with transmission failure. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.
Rear subframe failure due to rust.
As I am accelerating once the car reaches 30-60 mph there is a very distant shuddering that occurs that cause the engine to lose some power and turns the check engine light on. This appears to be a common problem as I have found many complaints on forums describing very similar symptoms.
The car started making a very annoying squeak from the left rear when going over bumps or entering and exiting the car. I took it to my local mechanic to investigate the problem. He discovered the rear suspension sub-frame was rusted out where it attaches to the car body. I was advised that the car was unsafe and should not be driven. I am awaiting more information from my mechanic about the repairs. There were no accidents or injuries caused by this but there could have been if I continued to drive the car. I will retain the rusted sub-frame once the repairs are made. I read three other similar complaints ( all 2014 Pathfinders ) on this web site. I think Nissan should be made aware of this situation.
1.) The engine makes extremely loud running noise after pressing gas pedal. It is available for inspection. 2.) no NOTICEABLE safety of occupants was place at risk. We will say the deafening sound of the engine when accelerating is unsettling. 2a) The vehicle struggles to accelerate fast after pressing acceleration pedal. 2b.) It’s not shifting automatically at all. 3.) the problem have not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center, only reported to dealer. 4.) The vehicle or component havr not been inspected by police, manufacturer, insurance representatives or others. 5.) there weren’t any warning ️ lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. The sudden occurrence was observed three-days ago, when the loud engine sputtering noise began after running quietly earlier in the day. 5a) it simply sounded like the header pipe (s) to the engine became disconnected from the engine, or the equivalent of the header/engine exhaust pipe(s).
Heard loud clunk from passenger rear of vehicle, then started hearing binding clunk noise from rear when going over bumps or turning at certain points. Inspection of rear suspension area on rear passenger side revealed a sub-frame that had rusted to the point a suspension part had broken from the frame and was sitting in a hole in the sub frame instead. Surrounding areas of undercarriage not rusted like the sub frame was.... The frame of a vehicle rusting to point of breakage at only 11 years old is a safety hazard suspension wise.....Suspension parts bolted to the sub-frame at multiple points.
I bought a new transmission from Nissan 2 years and couple of months ago, about 3 weeks ago car started jerking and engine light lit up. I took my car to my mechanic and he told me that it was CVT transmission problem, to take it to Nissan that it should be under warranty. Nissan had the vehicle for about two weeks and informed me that indeed it was the transmission but that it was not covered because I had an implied warranty. I called Nissan consumer affairs that informed me that the service department was wrong and a decision was not made yet. I was treated like trash by Nissan and was thrown out of the premises because I was asking questions she did not like. She accused me of calling names, which I never did and refused to let me take pictures of the vin# from inside the door. She did allow me to take pictures of my vehicle and told to that she was calling the police which was uncalled for. I went and spoke to Nissan managers, Alphonse and Igor about my situation at the service center and that the refused to to let me take a picture and I missed an appointment that I had on with one main financial at 3:00pm. Alphonse came with me to service center and I was able to get my keys and that the manager was lying because I showed him the video that I did. Very disappointed that it went this far, I might be suing Nissan. Because the Nissan supervisor that came with me noticed that the service center manager was lying he did not charge me for the diagnostic done.
I bought my 2014 Nissan Pathfinder 4x4 sv a couple months ago and it’s always had when starting where the RPMS will constantly jump while driving, I took the car in to Nissan dealership in Tridelphia wv multiple times, after buying to have recalls done that needed to be done and they said it was fine no previous codes or anything. Then driving home from work [XXX] the check engine light came on and codes were CVT Judder, Bank 1 Low Catalytic Converter, Driver TPMS Sensors Bad. And then after couple days the check engine light went off. Car has a loud Humming noise prior to light coming on and still. RPMS still jump but now the speedometer does it as well. This can’t be safe and there’s been multiple accidents/complaints about the CVT Death Judder in these suvs and for what we pay for them it should be fixed before someone dies. They need to be recalled ASAP!!! Rear subframe rusted through and car was a safety hazard to drive. Entire rear subframe needed to be replaced. Remainder of car only contained surface rust.
My car is saying hybrid battery overheating theres a recall for it but not for my vin and they won't fix it
in late June 2025, I heard a loud noise in the rear of the Pathfinder, that would happen during normal driving and worsen if I went over a speed bump for example. I took it to a local mechanic . He informed me that the rear subframe was rotted. It was undriveable once I knew how dangerous this situation was. I have a [XXX] child. I am his legal guardian and he lives with me. We spend a lot of time going for rides and doing things he likes. I was shocked when I heard what was wrong. Thank God we did not get injured or worse. Now, this frame needs to be replaced and I can imagine the cost to me.I am a retired RN. I have seen a good amount of complaints on line in Google from other Pathfinder owners regarding the exact same issue, Why wasn't there a recall? Will Nissan reimburse me once I get an estimate and the car fixed? This is not fair. I do not tow a boat, the car has not been submerged in water...I Imagine the frame was not prepped properly by Nissan. I know Nissan recalled some vehicles a few years back for the rotted sub frame issue. Now I have to pay for a repair..I need assistance please. I am using someone's car in the meantime. The CVT in my 2014 Nissan Pathfinder is experiencing judder and hesitation due to internal failure (Code P17F0), which affects drivability and acceleration from a stop. This creates a safety risk in traffic, intersections, and merging. Nissan acknowledged similar issues in other models with extended warranties, but not in this model despite identical symptoms.
The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was a loud knocking sound coming from the vehicle while driving over a speed bump. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a fractured rear sub-frame. The contact was informed that the sub-frame was corroded. The contact was informed that the rear sub-frame needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 262,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that soon after starting the vehicle, the engine started to overheat with the temperature gauge indicating that the engine was hot(H). The contact also stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated, and the vehicle started losing motive power. The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that there were no recalls on the VIN related to the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 64,000.
My transmission just went bad on me and the car only has 124,000 miles, causing a safety issue while I was driving on the highway.
Cvt judder I was driving and then all of a sudden the car just stopped driving in the middle of the intersection. I was lucky enough to coast off the road into a parking lot safely but still a scary moment
I have 2014 nissan pathfinder but every time I start a shake so my dealer told me they're is something wrong with the transmission and there's a recall for this vehicle that I should filled claim.
The problem I am having now envovles the EMC. After getting the catalytic converters replaced 2 times replacing the oxygen sensors 3 times and the manifold replaced, also a few other things that’s all connected the computer won’t acknowledge that’s the new parts have been replaced. So the engine still has a bad exhaust smell and the vehicle won’t run properly. Mechanic said I shouldn’t have a problem with the EMC but it is the problem. The problems go away once the codes are cleared but come back when the engine light comes back on. I have also noticed that a recall for the EMC for the same year vehicle but for a hybrid.
Driving on the highway and all of a sudden I my car started making a crazy juddering kind of motion and shut of completely when getting on the on ramp. Had to pull over very fast as there was a line of people behind me. Lost all power to my vehicle. Definitely a safety risk. Nissan has known of these risks and still doesn’t recall or replace these transmissions, quoting over $5,000 to replace is unbelievable. The car has only 99,000 miles on it. No prior warning light
While entering highway from a start the cvt shook the the car violently. Unable to get up to speed in safe manner. hit head on river door glass.
Car has extreme CVT shudder on acceleration. Know issue with Nissan (service bulletin NTB17-039K). Confirmed by dealer. Nissan won't fix this issue because of ever changing excuses. Issues caused traffic issue close call accident and driver hit head on side glass due to shudder.
Brake lights staying on and when pressing down on gas no acceleration. Car stalls and when pressing on gas again acceleration accrues.. very dangerous
Pressing the gas pedal from a full stop resulted in no car accleration (aside from normal car rolling forward from taking foot off of brake) and no engine 'acceleration'. Only when I pressed hard enough did the car suddenly lurch forward/accelerate. This is very risky, as I had been making a turn I would potentially be blocking the incoming lane. In addition, after parking in a parking lot, and turning off the car, I noticed that the brake lights were still lit up.
Hard time shifting from low gear to high gear when accelerating. Would shudder. In cruise control at 55 or higher would surge faster, slower. Finally, in cruise control, at 70 mph lost high gear, downshifted, rpms went very high. We slowed to a stop Pulled over, turned car off. Restarted. No forward gears, only reverse.
The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that the hood latch was stuck closed and failed to open. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V420000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The dealer was unable to open the hood to complete the recall repair. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The manufacturer referred the contact to another local dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 178,493.
Good morning I am sure you are well aware of the cvt transmission problems with the Nissan pathfinder 2014. . Well I just join the group of Nissan [XXX] drivers . I had my cvt transmission replaced and I am still getting the judder as they call it each time I accelerate. Mileage was roughly 143K when I had notice these judder problems . Went to AAMCO had a new cvt transmission put in drive roughly 500 miles since then . I still experience those juddering incidents of the cvt transmission. What can be done ? Will go back to aamco but other then this , any recalls any liability on Nissan itself for manufacturing bad components or a bad cvt transmission? As for the airbag indicator light flashing on the dash . That happen after my cvt was replaced . Any ideas please ? Would appreciate any help advice here . Thank you . Driving at highway speed, the vehicle suddenly lost all forward traction. No reaction to the accelerator anymore besides engine revving up. Once vehicle came to a stop, it had to be pushed off the road, impacting traffic on the road, putting my safety and that of others at risk. Technician pulled a “P17F0 - CVT Jutter” code. Dealership advised the vehicle needs a new transmission. Vehicle is less than 10 years old, less than 120,000 miles. Dealership advised no warranty coverage for the issue and a cost of $9,000 to replace CVT transmission. No warning or warning lights prior to incident. Regular maintenance at dealership (brand new purchase, one owner). Nissan is aware of the CVT transmission issues but offering no assistance. (Case # 52368136 from call with Nissan Customer care).
Transmission shudders at 20 miles per hour. It can sometimes buck and jerk pretty hard
In my 2014 Nissan Pathfinder when I drive between the speeds of 25-40 mph my SUV shudder and shakes violently like my car is going to break in half, it's not safe to drive anymore,
CVT TRANSMISSION ISSUES. JUDDERING, LOST SPRRD DOWNSHIFT JERKS. GOING 70 ON HIGHWAY IT LOST SPEED JERKED ME AROUND LIKE I AM GETTING HIT. COULDN'T EVEN GO UP RAMP ON HIGHWAY. Its hard to believe that NHTSA dose not have a ban on these vehicals. There are many complaints and Nissan letters within Nissan that have been issued out to dealships ect. no to mention the law suits. NHTSA would be the first i would think to post and force these off of the road. Insted people like me are just forced to junk them and write them off. or spend your life savings on trans replacement.
1 The CVT Transmission Failed, It is available, but it has to be towed. 2 While we drove down the expressway the transmission began to slip and skip gears in mid traffic at about 60 mph and at one point it stops pulling and I pull off the road and stopped but then it would not engage in gear (Pull off). 3 When I got it to move, I went Straight to the Nissan dealer, and they told me it needed a Transmission and brake pads and rotors for $ 8000.00 dollars. They Didn't Check the car because I watched them and they never raised the car or jack it up even to check the brakes. 4 no one but supposedly Nissan But that never happen 5 No Warnings, This Appeared / happen on Aug. 05, 2024
I bought a used 2014 nNissan Pathfinder in august 2024. 1 week later, my transmission is going. The car bucks and does not work if idling for a short time. 2 local Nissan dealers stated that the transmission replacement is no longer available. So I am currently not able to use the vehicle and do not want to pay 8,000 for it to be fixed. If this was a recall and a known issue with this type of transmission. What can i do at this point.
The rear subframe is completely rusty. The problem has been looked at by multiple independent auto repair centers. It is a safety concern as the subframe could fall apart due to the rust putting myself and others at risk while driving this vehicle. I bought this car in June of 2024 and it was a problem that was brought to my attention at that time but was rusty before that.
Car started to shutter, doing 55 mph and stop pulling..all lights were flashing then shut down, was able to coast into some business parking lot. Had to get towed to shop where was told needed alternator, replaced that and replaced battery…car would start but put in gear and same thing happened shut down and didn’t get but a couple of miles from shop..still no fix. Contacted a Nissan dealership was told maybe transmission. Told no recalls, which it should be.
This recall has been out for 2 years now and Nissan still hasn’t come up with a way to fix it or a replacement. I’m constantly in fear driving down the highway that my hood will fly up into my windshield.
My transfer case has gone bad 3 times already. This car just have 110,000 miles on it and the transmission is not good. Nissan is not doing anything about it and there are so many complaints about it. Every time I have to replace the transfer case is over 3k which is extremely frustrating. Something needs to be done

Transmission is making car bounce around making it very unsafe to drive. Told this trans needs to be replaced! Thought it was on recall but dealership said no it’s not on recall!!!! Car has been parked since 04/15/24
Hood won't latch shut.
The transmission jerking/shuddering problem has been ongoing in the Nissan Pathfinder ever since a safety recall in 2014. Passenger airbag light is always on, even if an adult is seated there. The airbag warning light flashes on the dashboard. Nissan’s OCS system seems to be frequently complained about online. Dealers say it’s just wear and tear which is just unbelievable. Dealers quote repair / replacement cost for the frame and harness anywhere from $1200-$2900. I want to report this issue so that others with the same problem may come forward so a recall be issued.
I had no light come on I was driving and I was crossing an intersection when the vehicle started shaking and jerking it was going slow then it just jerked me fast while there was on coming vehicles this happened suddenly and now the car light came on a day or two later and the car will not move forward or backwards I contacted the manufacture and they said there was nothing they can do sad this day I almost wrecked 3 times I even asked if they could pay for the labor and I would buy the part because I believe this was a manufacture issue everything I have read is about people having the same issue this could have been prevented and I thank God I didn’t die I did pray the whole drive back home and I feared for my safety and my babies safety . This needs to be addressed and there needs to be a recall before people get seriously injured or lose there lives and it shouldn’t matter about how much miles the vehicle has I believe the manufacture knew about this in the beginning but if they don’t want to fix it at least sell us the parts at a decent price because it’s gonna cost more to fix it than what the car is worth
