THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT DOWNSHIFT UNLESS IT WAS PUT INTO MANUAL MODE, VEHICLE WENT BEYOND RED LINE. THERE WASN'T ANY CORRELATION BETWEEN SPEED AND ACCELERATION METHODS. EVERY NOW AND THEN A LOUD THUMP NOISE IS HEARD FROM THE TRANSMISSION. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT VARIOUS INTERVALS, DEALER WAS UNABLE TO REPRODUCE THE LAST TIME IT WAS BROUGHT IN. *TR
I STARTED TO NOTICE THE PROBLEM WHEN TRYING TO PULL OUT ON TO A BUSY ROAD THAT WAS ON A SLIGHT HILL. FOR SOME REASON THE CAR WOULD NOT GO WHEN YOU HIT THE GAS. AFTER A WHILE OF DOING THIS A LIGHT CAME ON AND I TOOK IT TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. WHATEVER THEY DID SEEM TO HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM OF THE CAR NOT ACCELERATING WHEN ON A HILL. BUT THE PROBLEM STILL REMAINED THAT IF YOU DROVE FOR SO LONG (5-10 MIN) ON THE INTERSTATE 65+ MPH THEN CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP THE CAR AGAIN WOULD NOT ACCELERATE FOR A FEW MINUTES (I SAT THROUGH A STOP LIGHT AND A HALF TRYING TO GET THE CAR GOING). I THINK THIS IS RELATED TO THE FUNNY SOUND THE CAR MAKES WHEN STEPPING ON THE GAS. ANY WAYS I TOOK THE CAR IN TO SEE WHAT WAS WRONG AS THIS COULD CAUSE A PROBLEM IF IT ALLOWS YOU TO ROLL HALFWAY INTO AN INTERSECTION BUT THEN WILL NOT ACCELERATE. THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP SAID IT SOUNDS LIKE THE TRANSMISSION COOLER ASSEMBLY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THEY SAID THIS WOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE 120,000 MILE EXTENDED WARRANTY NISSAN PLACED ON 2008-2010 ROGUES. IT SEEMS LIKE NISSAN IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM SINCE THEY HAVE EXTENDED THE WARRANTY BUT THEY HAVE NOT RECALLED THE PARTS FOR SOME REASON. MY MOM HAS A 2010 ROGUE WITH THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM. *TR
I PURCHASED A NEW NISSAN ROGUE AND WITHIN 3500 MILES IT BEGAN TO MAKE NOISE. SECOND VISIT TO MECHANIC AT ABOUT 8000 MILES CONFIRMED THAT CAR NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION. AFTER 3500 MILES ON THE NEW NEW TRANSMISSION, NOISE RETURNED AND NISSAN HAS AUTHORIZED A SECOND REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION. *TR
ON NOVEMBER 5, 2008, I STARTED MY 2008 NISSAN ROGUE. BOTH SIDE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. I CALLED LOVE NISSAN, WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. THEY SENT A WRECKER TO PICK UP MY VEHICLE. THEY ORDERED PARTS AND REPLACED THE FOLLOWING COMPONENTS: AIR BAG DIAGNOSTIC UNIT, 2 SIDE AIR BAG MODULES, 2 FRONT SEAT BELT ASSEMBLIES, HEADLINER, AND CENTER GARNISH FINISHERS. THEY TOLD ME THE BOARD IN THE DIAGNOSTIC UNIT WAS BUBBLED AND THEY PROBABLY WOULD NEVER KNOW WHAT CAUSED THIS. PREVIOUS TO THIS INCIDENT, I TOOK MY VEHICLE BACK FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS: PURCHASED VEHICLE NOVEMBER 5, 2007. ON NOVEMBER 15, 2007, I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP DUE TO THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT. A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED. DIAGNOSTIC: NO CODES FOUND OR STORED AT THIS TIME, TEST DROVE, RECHECKED CODES, NO PROBLEMS FOUND AT THIS TIME. ON JANUARY 19, 2007, RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE OF THE SAME PROBLEM. DIAGNOSTIC TEST: NO DTC STORED IN SYSTEM. AT THIS TIME ALL WORKING PROPERLY. TEST DROVE. OK. ON JANUARY 22, 2008, RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP DUE TO THE SAME PROBLEM. DEALERSHIP ORDERED AND REPLACED: AIR BAG DIAGNOSTIC CONTROL UNIT, PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG SENSOR, AND BOTTOM CUSHION FRAME ASSEMBLY. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE NOT KNOWING IF THE AIR BAGS WILL DEPLOY AGAIN WHILE I AM DRIVING. THIS WOULD CAUSE ME TO WRECK. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 NISSAN ROGUE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SINCE PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, WHEN A PERSON WAS SEATED ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, THE 'PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF' MESSAGE ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE AIR BAGS MAY NOT DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DARCARS CHRYSLER, DODGE, JEEP, RAM OF ROCKVILLE IN ROCKVILLE, MARYLAND NUMEROUS TIMES FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, BUT THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE AIR BAG MESSAGE WAS NORMAL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10.
I PURCHASED A 2008 NISSAN ROGUE SL AWD IN NOVEMBER 2008. I BEGAN HEARING A NOISE EMANATING FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE AT APPROXIMATELY 3000 MILES. THE NOISE OCCURS CONSISTENTLY WHEN DECELERATING FROM ABOUT 20 MPH TO 5 MPH. AS THE VEHICLE BEGINS TO DECELERATE, THE NOISE SOUNDS LIKE A BICYCLE CHAIN RATTLING AGAINST METAL. THE NOISE CHANGES TO A GRINDING SOUND LIKE METAL RUBBING AGAINST METAL AS THE VEHICLE LOSES SPEED. THE GRINDING SOUND APPEARS MORE PRONOUNCED WHEN MAKING A LEFT TURN AT SLOW SPEED, SUCH AS WHEN TURNING INTO A PARKING LOT. SERVICE MANAGER ACKNOWLEDGES THE NOISE BUT HAS NO EXPLANATION FOR IT AND NO INTEREST IN TRYING TO RESOLVE IT. I BELIEVE THE NOISE COMES FROM THE CVT TRANSMISSION, AND IT IS PROBABLY CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE CVT PUSH BELT OR A CVT PUSH BELT SLIPPING ON THE VARIATOR PULLEYS. EITHER CAUSE COULD LEAD TO CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE CVT PUSH BELT AND RESULT IN AN IMMEDIATE AND TOTAL LOSS OF RESPONSE TO DRIVER ACCELERATOR INPUT. MY NISSAN ROGUE CURRENTLY HAS APPROXIMATELY 7000 MILES, AND THE NOISE IS BECOMING MORE EVIDENT. *TR
2008 NISSAN ROGUE. I NOTICED SOME PAINT DEFECTS AND THE DEALER AGREED TO BUFF OUT. WELL THEY COULD NOT BE BUFFED OUT AND I AM NOW FINDING THEM IN OTHER PARTS OF THE CAR. INFACT THE GM OF THE DEALERS STILL HASN'T RETURNED MY CALLS. *TR
ABNORMAL LOOSE/GRINDING SOUNDS FROM AUTOMATIC CVT TRANSMISSION. IMPROPER SHIFTING ON DOWNSLOPING ROADS, REVVING AT HIGH RATES AND NOT ASSOCIATED WITH ROAD SPEED. *TR
I HAVE A 2008 NISSAN ROGUE (ALL WHEEL DRIVE). IT HAS A LOUD NOISE (GRINDING/CLUNKING) SOUND AT SLOW SPEED. I'M TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THEY HAVE ANOTHER ONE THAT IS DOING THE SAME AND THEY DON'T HAVE AN ANSWER. NISSAN STATES THAT THEY ARE LOOKING INTO IT, DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS, BUT THAT THE VEHICLE IS SAFE TO DRIVE..... IF THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS HOW CAN THEY SAY THAT IT'S SAFE TO DRIVE? TO ME IT SOUNDS LIKE IT'S EITHER THE TRANSMISSION OR TRANSFER CASE. *TR
2008 NISSAN ROGUE: BACK REAR WINDOW BEHIND THE DRIVER'S SIDE EXPLODED SENDING GLASS ALL OVER THE CAR AND ON THE DRIVEWAY. THE CAR HAD BEEN DRIVEN ABOUT 15 PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. I REPORTED THE INCIDENT TO THE NISSAN DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. HE WOULD NOT EVEN TALK TO ME. HE SAID IT WAS NOT UNDER THEIR WARRANTY AND THAT IT BELONGED TO ME AND THE BANK NOW. I TURNED IT IN TO MY COMPREHENSION INSURANCE AND HAD THE WINDOW REPLACED. THE GLASS HIT THE SEAT SO HARD THAT IT EMBEDDED ABOUT 2 INCHES DEEP INTO THE SEAT. THE SEAT COVER HAD TO BE REPLACED AS WELL. ALSO, THE PAINT ON THE DOOR WAS SCRATCHED FROM THE GLASS COMING DOWN THE SIDE OF THE CAR. I HAD TO GET THE VEHICLE FIXED MYSELF (WITH INSURANCE) AT A COST OF OVER $1900. NISSAN SAID THAT ALL OF THEIR CARS WERE CHECKED THOROUGHLY SO THERE IS NO WAY THAT THERE COULD BE A DEFECT EVEN THOUGH THIS IS A NEW MODEL FOR NISSAN AND I AM SURE THEY DO NOT HAVE ALL THE FACTS ON THIS MODEL AS YET. *TR
LOW-SPEED RUBBERY GRINDING/RATTLE FROM FRONT END/TRANSMISSION. DEALER REPLACED HALF-SHAFT, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE. DEALER SAID TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT IS NECESSARY, BUT PROBLEM WOULD LIKELY RECUR AS NISSAN HAS NOT RESOLVED THE PROBLEM. ADVISED TO WAIT UNTIL MANUFACTURER CAN FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM. *TR
THE TETHERS ON THE 2008 NISSAN ROGUE ARE DESIGNED SO THAT THEY CANNOT BE USED FOR THE INFANT SAFETY SEAT LATCH SYSTEM. I ATTEMPTED CONTACTING NISSAN REGARDING THIS ISSUE TWICE AND GOT NOT RESPONSE. *TR
I PURCHASED A NEW 2008 NISSAN ROGUE SL AWD IN MARCH OF 08. IT HAS 3100 MILES ON IT. ABOUT A MONTH AGO I STARTED HEARING A RATTLE COMING FROM WHAT SOUNDED LIKE UNDER THE FRONT OF THE CAR. I BROUGHT IT INTO THE DEALER, THEY STATED THEY COULD NOT HEAR ANYTHING ON THE TEST DRIVE. AS DAYS WENT BY THE NOISE GOT LOUDER. I BROUGHT IT BACK AGAIN, THIS TIME I WENT WITH THE TECH. HE HEARD IT. AFTER HOURS OF LOOKING AT THE CAR THEY DECIDED, THEY NEEDED TO KEEP THE CAR FOR A DAY OR TWO TO DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE. I GOT A RENTAL AND THEY HAD IT FOR A DAY AND A HALF. I STARTED READING UP ON THIS ON ROGUE FORUMS AND THE ARE 100'S OVER PEOPLE HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM. SVC MGR TOLD ME THE PROBLEM WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION TNAT NISSAN USA WAS AWARE OF, AND THEY WERE GOING TO REPLACE IT. THEY THOUGHT THE CAR WAS SAFE TO DRIVE SINCE THERE HAD NOT BEEN REPORTED FAILURES. SO, THEY GAVE ME THE CAR BACK WHILE I WAITED FOR THE NEW TRANNY. A WEEK LATER AFTER NOT HEARING FROM THE DEALER, I CALLED AND WAS TOLD, AS IT TURNS OUT THEY WERE NOT GOING TO REPLACE THE TRANNY BECAUSE IT HAS BEEN DONE IN OTHER ROGUES AND NOT FIXED THE ISSUE. HE STATED, THERE IS NO FIX, BUT NISSAN IS WORKING ON THE PROBLEM. WHEN I VOICED MY CONCERNS OVER THE POSSIBILITY OF A FAILURE ON A HIGHWAY AT HIGH SPEEDS, HE SAID..WELL THERE HAVEN'T BEEN ANY YET!! AS I STATED THERE ARE MANY MANY ROGUE OWNERS WITH THIS PROBLEM. SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE TO FORCE NISSANS HAND. PLEASE HELP BEFORE THERE IS A FAILURE AND SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR EVEN KILLED. *TR
I HAVE A TRANSMISSION RATTLE/CLANKING NOISE WHICH IS FAIRLY CONSTANT IN THE CAR, EXCEPT AT HIGH ACCELERATION. I HAVE COMPLAINED NUMEROUS TIMES TO NISSAN ABOUT THE PROBLEM, BUT NISSAN IS CURRENTLY CONSIDERING THIS SOUND NORMAL. ISSUES SINCE MAY 2008. PURCHASED NEW 08 NISSAN ROGUE SL AWD. HAVE HAD TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS INCLUDING, LUNGING FORWARD, RATTLING NOISES, JERKING ACCELERATION, AND VIBRATION ON ACCELERATION. CONTINUOUS PROBLEMS STARTED UNDER 35MPH AND NOW ARE PRESENT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. NISSAN CLAIMS ITS MIGHT BE NORMAL AND THAT THERE MAY BE NO SOLUTION TO A PROBLEM THEY CANT FIGURE OUT. ADDITIONALLY THEY SAY IT WILL NOT CAUSE HARM, HOWEVER, IF THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT IT IS, HOW CAN THEY SAY THAT?*TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 NISSAN ROGUE. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 20-45 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A KNOCKING SOUND COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. SHE IS IN THE PROCESS OF HAVING THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 1,968.
ISSUES SINCE 5/5/8 JUST AFTER PURCHASING NEW 08 NISSAN ROGUE SL AWD TRANSMISSION FAILURE/LUNGING FORWARD, RATTLING NOISES, MISSING DURING ACCELERATION, AND SEVER VIBRATION ON ACCELERATION. CONTINUOUS PROBLEMS UNDER 35MPH. NISSAN CLAIMS ITS NORMAL AND WILL NOT REPLACE TRANSMISSION UNTIL IT COMPLETELY FAILS. *TR
MY BAND NEW 2008 ROGUE WAS HIT BY ANOTHER CAR. MY CAR WAS NOT MOVING AND THE OTHER CAR BACKED INTO MY CAR GOING ABOUT 5 MILES PER HOUR. MY BUMPER WAS COMPLETING DENTED INWARD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING A 2008 NISSAN ROGUE SL AWD, I BEGAN EXPERIENCING A GRINDING, RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM WHICH I NOW KNOW IS THE CVT TRANSMISSION. STARTED AT LESS THAN 3000 MILES, VERY FAINT AND INCONSISTENT BUT BECOMING MUCH LOUDER, MORE CONSISTENT AND UNMISTAKABLE. AFTER THE THIRD TRIP TO MY DEALER ABOUT THIS NOISE AND SEVERAL OTHER ISSUES I AM HAVING WITH MY 5 MONTH OLD VEHICLE INCLUDING A MAJOR WATER LEAK, THEY FINALLY GOT ON THE PHONE TO NISSAN USA. THE SERVICE MANAGER ADVISED ME THAT NISSAN IS AWARE OF THIS TRANSMISSION "ISSUE", THEY ARE WORKING ON A FIX, THERE HAVE BEEN MANY TRANSMISSIONS REPLACED BUT THAT IS NOT CORRECTING THE PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD TO SIT TIGHT AND WAIT FOR NISSAN TO COME UP WITH A RESOLUTION. I WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE IS SAFE TO DRIVE BECAUSE THERE HAVE BEEN NO REPORTED FAILURES FROM THIS ISSUE. MY PROBLEM IS, WHICH ROGUE OWNER WITH THIS PROBLEM (AND IT SEEMS LIKE THERE ARE MANY) IS GOING TO BE THE FIRST ONE TO HAVE A TRANSMISSION FAILURE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS? WITHIN 1 MONTH OF TAKING DELIVERY OF A 2008 NISSAN ROGUE SL AWD, WE STARTED HEARING A FAINT RATTLE THAT WAS INTERMITTENT FROM THE FRONT END AT APPROX. 1000 MI. WHEN THE NOISE BECAME MORE REGULAR AND LOUDER, TOOK IT TO NISSAN TO HAVE THEM CHECK IT OUT. TECH'S HEARD THE NOISE ON 2ND TRIP THERE, BUT SAID NISSAN WAS AWARE OF A PROBLEM BUT THERE WAS NO FIX AS OF YET AND WILL LET US KNOW WHEN THERE WAS A FIX. TWO MONTHS LATER, NO WORD FROM THE DEALER, WE TOOK IT TO ANOTHER DEALER AND WAS TOLD THERE THEY HAD EXPERIENCED IT AND REPLACED A TRANSMISSION FOR ANOTHER ROGUE. THEY KEPT IT FOR NEARLY 3 WEEKS AND ONLY REPLACED A TRANSFER CASE--IT TURNS OUT THE TRANSFER CASE ONLY ECHOED THE NOISE FROM THE CVT/TRANSMISSION. WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT NISSAN REQUESTED THEM TO RETURN THE CAR BACK TO US WITH SO-CALLED ADDED COMFORT THAT "IT IS SAFE TO DRIVE UNTIL THEY FIND A FIX BECAUSE THERE HAVEN'T BEEN ANY REPORTED FAILURES". NOISE IS STILL THERE, AND SEEMS EVEN LOUDER THAN BEFORE. "RATTLE NOISE" IS HEARD WHEN FOOT IS LIFTED OFF GAS PEDAL AT SLOW SPEEDS BELOW 35-40 MPH. CURRENT MILEAGE: 6350. *TR
GLASS FROM MOONROOF EXPLODED/SHATTERED TO PIECES WHILE DRIVING. TEMPERATURE WAS 50 DEGREES, SPEED OF 60 MPH, NOTHING HIT THE GLASS TO CAUSE IT TO BREAK. TOOK DELIVERY OF THE CAR 1 WEEK PRIOR TO INCIDENT. DEALER REPLACED GLASS AND SAID IT WAS DEFECTIVE. *TR
THIS AN E-MAIL TO THE NISSAN MOTOR CORP REFERENCE 6261634 I WAS JUST RECENTLY CONTACTED BY ONE OF YOUR TECH REPRESENTATIVES FOR MY AREA IN RESPONSE TO MY INQUIRY ABOUT MY 2008 NISSAN ROGUE CVT TRANSMISSION NOISE. IT APPEARS THAT YOUR FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM IS TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. THIS SEEMS ODD, HAS THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT THE NEXT TRANSMISSION WILL NOT HAVE THE SAME RUMBLING CVT NOISE. ALSO THIS IS A NEW CAR AND YOU DON'T EXPECT TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED AFTER A FEW MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP. IN FACT CHECKING WITH THE BLOG PAGE OF THE NICO CLUB, THIS SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH MANY NISSAN ROGUE OWNERS. I HAVE CALLED MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALERS AND FOUND THAT ALL THEM ARE HAVING SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FROM SOME OF THEIR ROGUE OWNERS. RAMSY NISSAN HAS HAD FOUR COMPLAINTS, ROCKLAND NISSAN SEVEN COMPLAINTS, WHITE PLAINS NISSAN THREE COMPLAINTS, O'BRIEN NISSAN TWO COMPLAINTS AND ROUTE 23 NISSAN HAS HAD FIVE COMPLAINTS. WHAT IS ALSO INTERESTING IS ALL OF THESE DEALERS HAVE THE SAME ANSWER TO FIXING THE PROBLEM AND THAT IS, 'NISSAN IS A WHERE OF THE PROBLEM' AND THEY ARE WAITING FOR A SOFTWARE FIX. IT APPEARS TO ME THAT NISSAN SOLD THE VEHICLE WITH A KNOWN DESIGN FLAW WITH THE ROGUES CVT TRANSMISSION. I WAIT FOR YOUR REPLY AND RESOLUTION TO MY COMPLAINT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 NISSAN ROGUE. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE CONTACT WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONT END CRASH. NEITHER THE FRONT OR SIDE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. IT WAS UNDECIDED AS TO WHETHER THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. GOT INTO A CAR ACCIDENT GOING LESS THAN 30 MILES PER HOUR. CAUSE OVER $6,000 WORTH OF DAMAGE. THE CAR WAS IN THE SHOP FOR OVER 2 MONTHS; WAITING ON PARTS FOR A BAND NEW CAR CURRENTLY IN MASS PRODUCTION. HAD TO REPLACE BOTH AIR BAGS, BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEAT BELT, BUMPER, HEAD LIGHTS AND MOST OF THE FRONT OF THE CAR. *TR
