NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2021 Nissan Rogue. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
The contact owned a 2021 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated while driving 50 MPH, the steering wheel pulled to the right independently and the steering wheel was vibrating abnormally. The contact stated that the vehicle was towed to the residence. The contact was informed by the tow truck driver that the steering column had split in half. No warning light was illuminated. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the tie rod had split in half due to a heavy impact. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and informed the contact that representative would provide a call back. The failure mileage was 60,000.
The contact owns a 2021 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle failed to properly accelerate while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact stated that after shifting from drive(D) and back, the failure had self-corrected; however, the failure later reoccurred. The contact stated that on several occasions during the failure, the vehicle was nearly crashed into. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure, and no cause for the failure was found. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 48,000.
I was driving on the freeway and my car started slowing down to the point of intermittently stalling. The MIL or check engine light came on. I could have been hit from the back if I did not successfully pull to over to the side of the freeway. I slowly drove it to a safe place and had my car towed to the Nissan dealership. It will now be looked at on Monday.
Turned car on and it said engine malfunction reduced power. Turned car back off and on again, and the same message appeared. I drove the car home and let it sit. Turned it on later and message was gone.
Brand new Rogue at 400 miles(no previous owner) CVT malfunction due to incorrect grounding of transmission on mount. Resistance is not good and causes a draining battery… flickering lights, loss of power steering and slipping of gears. Mount is neither grounded and is experiencing a high pressurized leak. Dealership has noted leak at 20K and has considered services from the past at 46K. They note antifreeze/coolant but it is clearly transmission fluid. Wife is scared. Almost got in an accident with 2 year old baby and their parents due to jerking transmission on the road at 40K. Self serviced transmission fluid at 43k and have found very black burnt transmission fluid. No more road side assistance due to needed jump starts… Nissan claims it is the battery but this is 5th battery to be tested non-defective and new LIFEPO4 battery is saving lives but dealership refused to work on my car further until they see the OEM battery even if I use the original they want a new battery which will ultimately leave me stranded or loss of control unless driving over 100MPH in case of emergency? I have proof and images alongside a real forensic case. Dealership may be tampering with vehicle or vehicle did not pass inspection… electrical issues were prominent at first 1K but accused of “phantum burst” or leaving lights on… parasitic draw directly from alternator mount and transmission fluid at a high pressurized leak. Build quality looks like it was squeezed an good half inch to the right and components are overlapped when originally they weren’t. A/C lines poor seal. Vacuum leak in engine filter compartment resulting in undesirable dirt debris. Coolant becoming very brown more often… and components in the car not shutting off including stereo and settings in the dash. Casa has claimed to fix the “no-start condition” during a recall campaign but did not… requested 900 dollars for fluid change and new battery before looking at leak… flagstaff Nissan did miracles but did not note short
System malfunction message shows up and front &rear sensors along with cruise control are turned off.
My 2021 Nissan Rogue has a major gas fume leak. When the vehicle sits at idle in a parking lot with all of the doors and windows closed, the gas fumes build up inside of the cabin of the vehicle. The fumes get so strong that it gives me migraines and makes me feel nauseous and to the point of almost passing out. Sometimes it's so bad you can still smell the fumes in the car the following day even after it's been turned off all night. I took it to the Nissan dealership and they said it's a known problem that cannot be fixed on these cars.
Sunroof randomly shattered while driving on highway with no debris. Further research shows this is not the first time the sunroof randomly shattered while driving.
Back up camera, and other cameras near corners of the car are not displaying. Contacted Nissan about the issue said there is nothing they can do even though they have other recalls on cars with the same problems, just not my model. I also feel as if other components of the car need to be checked to ensure upmost safe driving and functioning. Have photos of car in reverse but no display of any camera.
I was driving and the accelerator pedal got stuck and it started to increase my speed. I kept pressing on the pedal and it still was not working. I had to step on the brake pedal several times, like 5-6 times before the accelerator finally became unstuck.
in forward motion a loud griding noise on drivers side was noticed. Stopped at a repair shop and told the calipers are bad. Nissan has a recall for the rear brake calipers for failure, but we were told that our VIN. number does not apply, yet they failed less that 100,000 and the front calipers are original. Front should fail 3 to 1 to the back... the back should not have failed. Nissan Corp. did not want to entertain out complaint. Nissan Case# 55061723
Hi Team, I own a certified 2021 Nissan and am currently experiencing a water leak at the top front corners of the windshield. The vehicle has already been inspected for potential windshield defects and clogged drains, but no issues were identified. Upon further research, I came across Technical Bulletin NTB21-097B, which describes a similar issue occurring in many 2021-manufactured vehicles. Although my vehicle's VIN does not currently show any active recalls related to this bulletin, the symptoms are consistent. This leak is also affecting the driver and passenger side airbags, which poses a significant safety risk in the event of an accident. Given the circumstances, I kindly request that you review this case for coverage under the scope of the bulletin and advise me on the next steps. Thank you for your attention and assistance. Car was off keys inside car and all doors locked
I was driving. I hit nothing. My steering traction light comes on, and the car starts pulling to the right. I go in the shop. There is a bend in my passenger inner tie rod. I took it to the dealer. they keep trying to get me to say I had an accident. I did not. Now they want to charge me 3500 to replace the whole steering rack because they "can't just purchase the inner tie rod". Which they can. MANY PEOPLE are having the same problem with their tie rods being faulty on these cars.
The contact owns a 2021 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the temperature gauge indicated that the engine was overheating. The contact stated that the engine had overheated, and there was no warning light illuminated. The contact drove the vehicle to the shoulder of the road. The contact performed an inspection of the vehicle. The contact became aware that the coolant level was low. The contact refilled the coolant reservoir, and the vehicle was driven to the residence. The contact stated that the next day, the vehicle was driven four miles. The contact stated that when the coolant level was checked, the coolant level was low again. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic; however, the failure was not duplicated. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer; however, the failure was not duplicated. The vehicle was towed to another independent mechanic; however, the failure was not duplicated. The contact stated that the thermostat was replaced at 100,000. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 112,000.
The contact owns a 2021 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and decelerated. The accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to move before shutting down. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number 25V437000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with premature engine failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and confirmed there was no warranty coverage on the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
Our 2021 Nissan Rogue stalls in Traffic, Park Brake Alert pops up when not on, Radio doesn’t work sometimes, Gas Pump doesn’t click off when full so have to watch or it spills on car and ground, inside Pillars between fr-windshield and front driver and passenger windows leak when I run it through the car wash, there are constant glitches with it that we’ve taken in and they say it doesn’t replicate for them so they can’t do anything even though they have complaints on all with the NHTSA. The Vehicle just stalls out while driving?
The back-up camera on my car no longer functions. When put in reverse, the back-up area appears gray and there is an X in it. The birds-eye view portion works on the sides and front, but the back is also gray and has an X in it. Other 2021 Nissan Rogues were recalled for this problem happening around the 50,000 mile mark. Mine was not one of them but I am thinking it probably should have been. No accidents have happened and I do know how to use mirrors to back up but this should not be happening. I would not report it if I had not seen that thousands of2021-22 Nissan Rogues had been recalled for this issue. I am putting the date as 5/1/25, but this happened intermittently when it was windy so I thought it had something to do with the wind. It completely stopped working on 5/1/25.
Hi Team, I own a certified 2021 Nissan and am currently experiencing a water leak at the top front corners of the windshield. The vehicle has been inspected for windshield defects and clogged drains, but no issues were found. After conducting some research online, I discovered that this issue closely resembles the one described in Technical Bulletin NTB21-097A. However, my vehicle’s VIN does not show any active recall associated with this bulletin. I am attaching pictures for your reference. I kindly request that you consider covering this issue under the scope of the bulletin and advise me on the next steps in the process. Thank you for your assistance. The contact owns a 2021 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds; there were squeaking and grinding sound coming from the front passenger’s side wheel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnose and it was determined that the caliper, brake pads, and rotor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact had learned of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 23V791000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) and 21V286000 (Service Brakes Hydraulic); and linked the failure to the recalls; however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 26,000.
The display that controls the cameras has failed and is demanding a manual update but it was taken to a nissan dealership where I was told it had to be completely replaced for $3500
The IPDM stopped functioning correctly causing the a/c to stop working. This is a known issue that Nissan is negligently not addressing.
The contact owns a 2021 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated while driving 25 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed to the floorboard without warning. The contact pumped the brake pedal to stop the vehicle; however, the vehicle failed to respond as needed. The contact coasted the vehicle to a stop and after the vehicle came to a complete stop, the brake functionality returned. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where an attempt was made to replace the brake calipers; but the mechanic was unable to perform the repair. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred for a second time while driving at a slow speed. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the vehicle remained 2 weeks; however, the dealer could not duplicate or diagnose cause of the failure. The manufacturer was not yet notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 43,000.
I’m not exactly sure what is wrong but can only assume it would be engine or transmission related. While driving whether it’s city streets going 5 to 35 miles an hour or on the freeway with a speed limit of 75 at any moment while driving RPMs will shoot high and stay high until I am able to safely pull over Put the vehicle in park and then proceed back into drive. This has happened several times while on the freeway, which poses serious safety issues in pulling off a freeway safely, and has happened numerous times driving the city streets in my town. I took the vehicle in to be checked out And was told CVT transmissions are notorious for having issues, especially in this year make and model of vehicle. Shortly after having the vehicle serviced I see the article showing over 400,000 vehicles are being recalled for the same exact issue. I need to make sure that my car is included in that recall because it is the exact same issue and needs resolved as this is a fairly new vehicle and should not be having these issues or opposing danger to myself and my family When I have attempted to resolve the issue.
We have had a problem where our battery had died on us out of nowhere. We took it to autozone to check out or battery and they said it was low and we just had to drive it around so we can charge it. We did that didn’t work so we changed the battery. Well two months later our car won’t start anymore and our battery drained again. Now our car won’t start we had to jump start it again and even with that the battery wont hold its charge. We had a good friend who is a mechanic come in and help us and he did what he could to inspect the car and he was at a lost couldn’t tell us why the car won’t start.
The display went black when backing up and the rear camera turned on
Transmission failure
AC stopped working after winter passed even though AC button is on. Told no fluid leaks or other known issues. Was told IPDM needs replacement due to A/C INOPERATIVE WITH DTC B20C8-14 STORED IN THE IPDM E/R. Have found several other people online having the same problem. Nissan stating problem is only part of a service bulletin and therefore not a recall. Requesting further review/investigation since it seems to be a common issue on this model and in my opinion should be a recall. I understand my opinion and facts of further investigation may not prove as such but without the complaints how would you know. Thank you
FCW randomly turns off while driving in daylight under clear conditions. Each time I stop and check the sensor on the front to make sure I haven’t hit a bug or something that covered the sensor and each time the sensor is clear.
Car was driving fine went into a store came out a couple hours later car wouldn’t start. After jump starting it check engine light is on and AWD system failure reads across the dashboard. The 2 back doors no longer lock/unlock unless you do it manually. Drove car home it is now shifting funny like a hesitation or slipping feeling while driving. There’s a little over 15k miles on it.
Passengers side inner tie rod end. With normal driving conditions and normal road conditions with bumps and holes bent. So much so the self driving system nor I could drive it without turning it hard left to try and keep it straight. I have pictures this tie rod end is much to small of a diameter to be in a position to Carry the load of front drive and steering wheels. Normal road conditions today are much to rough for this.
My auctuators door locks have failed numerous times. The passenger rear was replaced when the vehicle was still under warranty. In the last 6 months the front drivers side, and passenger side has failed. Nissan does not have a recall on these and should! My car only has 32,000 miles on it. There obviously is an issue that needs to be addressed with a recall.
parking brake light blinking and vehicle would not drive forward or reverse.
I was driving on highway 68 and heard a loud bang. Like an explosion. Parked my car and found that the sunroof had exploded. It sounded like a gunshot.
Unknown; motor acceleration while brake was pressed
Driver side rear door lock electrical actuator will not lock or unlock the door. Door has to be manually unlocked. In the event of an emergency, it will delay the egress of a passenger in the rear seat. The issue would make it near impossible to unlock the door in an emergency especially if it were submerged in water. This is a safety issue and has occurred on a number of these Nissan vehicles. The vehicle is available for inspection if requested.
Warning popped up that malfunction and forward collision was disabled
Car stall and shut off while driving on the highway. This is the second time this has happened in a year. They tried to blame it on the battery the fuel was reading wrong then. Fuel reading issue again in August supposed to have done a software update again to fix it. Now this time my child was driving and the car shuts down while driving on the highway with gas reading 42 miles left. The car gets to the dealership and they say it’s no gas and the fuel pump system failed. This car is a severe safety hazard.
Head gaskets failed at 120,000 miles and had to replace engine. Now transmission failed at 180,000. This car is mostly used for airport taxi so mostly freeway miles.
I brought my 2021 Nissan Rogue in for service at Jenkins Nissan in Lakeland, FL for a oil change and tire rotation and we have had a light on our dash board indicating a airbag error and they charged us to look that up and said it is an airbag module or sensor that is causing the error message on the dashboard as the paper work said it is a Sensor-Side Airbag Center causing that and said it would cost around $1460 to repair that. I looked up recalls on my Rogue and it listed an Airbag issue on some of the 2021 Nissan Rogue models but did not list mine specifically. I feel this should either be covered by my warranty or the recall they are having with the airbag issue.
The collision system just randomly turns off
Vehicle would not start then it finally started and check engine light came on . Code P0914 was recorded as the issue. Shift position circuit faulty
While driving one day in November 2024, the master warning light and the automatic emergency braking system off warning light came on. With 2 malfunction warnings: “Not available system malfunction with the Lane Departure warning symbol” and “AEB malfunction”. If you try to use cruise control a loud siren is alerted since these 2 malfunctions are happening. Took it to the Nissan dealership where I bought it and was told there was a lane camera with an open circuit and to replace it when my windshield crack since it was close to $2,000.
[XXX] was involved in a single person collision, the vehicle hit head on into a building. [XXX] put her foot on the brake however the car speed up on its own causing her to run into a building. Which causes her to be involved in an accident. As you can see Nissan has not taken any responsibility for the vehicle involved despite any recalls. Which as you can see they have 0 fixes. She has now had to pay a big amount out of her pocket and it was no fault to her. She was awake alert and a police report was made. Please contact her A.S.A.P at. [XXX] [XXX] . my gear shifter in my 2021 Rogue was stuck in park. I was stuck in the middle of a 6 lane road. Car would not go into drive or reverse in heavy traffic or neutral. Had waited for police they arrived 15 minutes later car was able to engage drive . Then towed to Nissan of Rockville Center NY. I was informed that liquid was under gear shifer and the electronics were faulty. I had the same issue in 2022 and received 2,500 dollars from Nissan but they never replaced part... Today same issue but life threatening. Water is able to drip down the shifter mechanism and made the CVT light to turned on and the car was stuck in park, Nissan said water got under the shifter. I own the car and never spilled water or accidently spilled water into the gear shifter. I called Nissan consumer affairs case # [XXX] and complained and said " How is this not water proofed as if water can get in this area cause the car to be immobile. stuck in park. I awaited a tow truck from AAA at [XXX] [XXX]... This complaint or defect is serious! I was so scared. But the police surrounded my car from traffic within 3 minutes.. on [XXX], Long Island. This ability for water to go through the shifter and cause this issue is an absolute manufacturers defect and needs to be address to this shifter design. It is the newer style shifter with only forward neutral and park button. this should be a sealed area as the cup holders are 2 inches away from the shifter. I think the issue started 2 years ago and corroded the electronics as nothing has spilt in this area ever! I don't even remember spilling anything in 2022. I asked Nissan if it could of come from below the car.? they said NO. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
As I was driving my daughter to school suddenly a warning popped up in the dash that there was a forward collision malfunction and the system turned itself off. There were no other vehicles near me or in front of me and the sensors were not blocked by rain (we are in drought conditions) or snow.
The engine revs a s will not accelerate. I have to stop put car in park and turn it off and on. This has happened many times. Dealership says they can’t do anything unless an engine light or code is present. I even showed them videos.
The assessment is I was simply driving down [XXX] where I live, and my car started this horrible wobbling in the front end and I couldn't control the steering wheel. I was able to safely get the rogue pulled over to the side of the road. I got out upon looking at the car, I couldn't see anything wrong on the outside. But, upon further examination, I got down and laid down and looked under the car, it revealed that the driver's side inner tie rod had snapped in half. This is not normal being my car only has 46k on it. I called my brother in law who is a mechanic and sent him pictures of it and he confirmed it was the tie rod. So I started googling to find a replacement and low and behold, Nissan is under investigation for this problem happening in the 21 Nissan rogues to ike I have. I called suntrup Nissan where I had purchased the car in May and was basically told by the parts dept there, that there was nothing they could do to help me because they wouldn't even be able to get the part for at least two months. I find that ridiculous. Nissan doesn't even manufacture parts for their own vehicles they sell.. my brother in-law searched until he finally found a place in China that makes them for this model and mwe have one ordered 103.00 for the tie rod. I couldn't find where my car was in the recall but I feel so should be because it's the same problem they are under investigation for. I cannot afford to have my car looked at at a dealership, because I already pay 600. Month. For the car and I don't have extra money laying Round. nd the dealer already basically told me don't know what to tell you cause we wouldn't be able to fix it.. so I need to know what do do to at least be reimbursed for the labor I've had to pay someone to look. At this and for the part and then changing it.. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Ok , so 4 weeks ago I was driving down Jefferson Avenue here in st. Louis mo. The road is completely redone , no bumps, pothole etc. I was traveling about 35mph when car stared this possible wobble.. got out and notice my drivers side tie rod had snapped in half. Mind you my car only has 44k on it and I take immaculate care of it. I searched all over trying to find a tie rod for it. No one could produce one. Soni called nissan consumer affairs to get involved amd help locate parts to this car. After them towing my car to a dealer it has sat fir weeks now, amd they finally denied any help saying they wasn't responsible. Amd it was going to have to have a whole new steering rack n pion, which is 2500 dollars I don't have. I've looked around amd called and everyone is saying you hardly ever have to replace all of that for a tie rod. Nissan. I know is under investigation for this happening to other people with the rogue. I need something done about this and I can't get any help.from nissan or any nissan dealer, not even the dealerni bought my car at. This is becoming a head ache and I might have to see about starting a Class action lawsuit against them. Not supplying the parts and forcing me to have work dome that doesn't need to be done. Help please if you can!@
Since October of 2024, I've been having recurring leaks coming through the front right passenger's side at the top corner of the windshield, where the seam in the fabric meets. I have had multiple appointments at Nissan dealerships, where I've been told "your drains are clogged," "it's how it was manufactured," "we'll add some sealant," etc. and the problem has progressively gotten worse and worse, spreading to other areas of my roof, staining my interior, and causing mold and mildew issues. I wonder if it's not a sunroof problem, but a roof rack problem. There was a recall on a batch of 2021 Nissan Rogues in 2021 for this issue, but my car's manufacturing date unfortunately did not fall under that recall. Nissan will not check to see if that's the issue since my car is not technically under recall. I've found a huge community of people online who have had the same problems with their Nissan Rogues, and have unfortunately either had to sell their cars back to the dealership, or are living with mold and mildew in their cars because it's a problem that Nissan has not been willing to fix. I'm asking that this problem is looked into further on behalf of myself and other 2021 Nissan Rogue owners whose particular manufacturing dates did not fall under the recall for the leaking roof racks (attached) and are continuing to have water leak into their cars. My whole sunroof, besides the glass, was replaced in June of 2025, and the problem worsened (photos attached). My car is now back in the shop at a different dealership, with the hopes that they can help me.
