NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2022 Nissan Sentra. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
I took my Sentra to Performance Nissan located at 1345 S Federal Hwy, Pompano Beach, FL 33062 and was refused service. They refused to fix the safety recall on my vehicle because of a rebuilt title. I called Nissan Of America and was told regardless of a rebuilt title a safety recall should be fixed by the dealership.
The contact owns a 2022 Nissan Sentra. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering independently steered the vehicle over into the next lane. The failure was a persistent failure. The contact stated that the steering wheel was independently steering the vehicle all over the road without driver input. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V581000 (Steering); however, the VIN was not associated with the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 76,000.
Unknown, after buying vehicle spoke with dealership and they said all recalls had been fixed. Got an update from BMV stating there’s still an open recall on the vehicle.
The front passenger headlight started to go in and out. After a while it started to burn the connector. Also the back passenger side taillight is out too. The plugs in the car also make the speakers turn scratchy and sometimes the shifter would have some trouble going into gear. I took it to a Nissan dealership and they said that the electrical recall is vin number specifically but it’s happening to my car.
In the interior of the car on the passenger side there are water droplets. The droplet has no smell. There is no evidence of pooling water when I opened the glove compartment. I felt as far a I could behind the glove compartment for moistener, I couldn’t feel any. However I just purchased new winter floor mats. As I was vacuuming my car out I noticed the carpet was wet. I just purchased the car on Sept 08,2025 and thought it may be damp from the car being shampooed. Once I place the rubber winter mats down is when I noticed the droplets. I’ve read there were recalls on the 2022 Sentra for similar issues of water droplets from possible air conditioner condensation. I suspect my car maybe experiencing similar issue. I noticed these droplet as a result on my air conditioner being on.
The tie rods make a popping noise and my car keeps going out of alignment
The CVT system is failing since 1 month ago and when I step on the accelerator i heard i weird noise
EGR VALVE HAD GONE OUT - WOULD NOT ALLOW CAR TO START / WHEEL BEARINGS HAD GONE OUT BEFORE RECOMMENDED TIME TO REPLACE / WHEN REPLACING WHEEL BEARINGS CVT SHAFTS WERE STRIPPED FROM MANUFACTURER - SO WAS FORCED TO CHANGE THEM ALSO / ALSO HAD TO CHANGE STRUTS / WAS TOLD BY A MECHANIC THAT THERE IS TOO FEW OF MILES ON CAR TO HAVE TO SPEND THIS MUCH MONEY ON REPAIRS.
There are issues with the sensors. Specifically, the collision sensors. I have owned a 2022 Nissan Sentra for a few months now and multiple times have had the traction control malfunction warning, front collision sensor malfunction warning, and back collision sensor malfunction warning appear. In turn, this makes other safety features like the lane departure warning malfunction as well. This is a safety risk because first, the point of collision sensors is to minimize the risk of being in an accident. Second, if the sensors are corroding or have issues it can cause a fire or damage other aspects of the vehicle. I payed for multiple reports of the car. I assumed it was in an accident and the dealership did not disclose it. As the issue becomes more persistent it is clear that is what the car does. Malfunction.
I experienced a second brake booster failure within 1300 miles of the replacement. The booster should be available for inspection, but I do not have it. The dealership has it. On May 9, 2025, at 38,349 miles, my booster failed, experiencing a very loud audible boom and insulation hanging under my car. It was taken to a Nissan dealership and they verified it was something they’d never seen before. It was replaced, then on June 23, at 39,630 miles, it failed again. I had my 4 year old daughter in the car the second time and thankfully was able to stop, but it could have been catastrophic in heavier traffic or at higher speeds. It was inspected by a second Nissan dealership. They advised there was oil in my brake fluid, but did not advise how it could have happened. They also said they aren’t sure what caused it and they’ve also never seen this before. One failure is rare, a second within 1300 miles is extremely rare. The symptoms, I feel, began in January. During a warranty strut replacement, I advised that my brakes were doing something strange and I wasn’t sure if it was the brakes or transmission. I was recommended to have a cvt flush and brake fluid change. I feel this was the booster, but the dealership said there are no symptoms of a failing booster. If those were not symptoms of the booster, then the first symptom began around May 5. When I would start my car, I noticed the brake pedal was stiff until I started it. It drove normal until I pressed the brake while idling in my driveway preparing to leave and heard a loud boom, followed by a hissing sound coming from my brake and a very stiff pedal. My brake is still very stiff when I go to start my car (as if I’ve pressed the brake multiple times, but I am pressing it for the first time). This is potentially the first symptom I experienced before the first failure, it’s a symptom that has not gone away since the first failure. The first failure was also reported and the complaint number is: 11663673
On May 9, 2025, my car was idling in my driveway. I put my foot on the brake to leave and heard an explosion so loud it was mentioned in multiple Facebook groups and heard in at least 3 towns. There was insulation hanging from the bottom of my car. It has been towed to the Nissan dealership and they said my brake booster exploded and confirmed that they had never seen that before. I believe this is a safety issue as had I been on the highway it could have caused a fatal accident. It is still at the dealership so I do not yet have documentation or receipts, but I was told to submit a report ASAP.
The contact owns a 2022 Nissan Sentra. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the driver's side floorboard was vibrating. The contact's wife also informed the contact that the passenger's side floorboard was vibrating. The contact stated that the failure was initially occurring while driving at higher speeds, but recently, the failure also occurred while driving at slower speeds. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the brake rotors and pads were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V581000 (Steering), which was previously completed on the vehicle. The used car dealer was notified of the failure. The Nissan dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 57,000.
My car would cut off on me and all the lights would turn on and the engine light. It would shake then slow down and cut off. It happened to me while driving on the freeway. I was able to cut it back on before accident happened. I’d randomly try to start my car and right when I do the engine light would turn on the car would rumble nd shake really bad and cut off so I’ll have to wait like three min and the car would start up. I forgot what day it happened but my car still acts weird
I brought my car in to the local dealer in Olympia WA for a routine oil change and inquired about a wobble when driving on the freeway. I was told that my 5 year tires (purchased less than 1 year ago$800 full set) needed replaced on the drivers side ($224) and that my car maybe out of alignment ($119). I inquired about the Sentra recalls and was told there aren’t any. This is concerning to me and I worry that it is a safety issue to be driving. My make model and year of car fall within this recall range and is displaying signs described in as consistent with the recall yet my local dealer dismissed the possibility. I am requesting assistance with this as this is my only vehicle and needed for my employment. Please call me. Thank you. [XXX] text & messages are ok. Thank [XXX] . The contact owns a 2022 Nissan Sentra. The contact stated that while driving from a complete stop at an intersection, the vehicle shut off. The contact stated that while attempting to restart the vehicle, the message indicating a malfunction was displayed. The check engine, ABS, and battery warning lights, and other unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle failed to restart. A Police Officer assisted the contact in blocking traffic to prevent a crash. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The contact stated that the failure had been a recurring failure while driving and while the vehicle was idling. The vehicle was jump-started. The vehicle was taken to Auto Zone, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the battery needed to be replaced. Additionally, the contact stated that there was a water flowing sound coming from the rear of the vehicle while driving. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000. The VIN was not available.
ONE DAY IN JANUARY THIS YEAR, I FELT A VIBRATION IN MY STEERING WHEEL. I BROUGHT MY CAR TO A TIRE SHOP FOR ALIGNMENT AND WHEEL BALANCING BUT THE PROBLEM WAS UNSOLVED. TWO WEEKS AGO WHEN I OPENED THE DMV RENEWAL FORM, I SAW THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR MY 2022 NISSAN SENTRA. PER NHSTA RECALL NO. 23V-581, IT STATES THAT THE MANUFACTURER MAY HAVE INSTALLED A CHEAP, WEAK OR SUBSTANDARD TIE RODS. AS A RESULT, THE STEERING WHEEL MAY BE OFF CENTER AND EXPERIENCE VIBRATION WHICH IS EXACTLY MY PROBLEM. I BROUGHT TO A DEALERSHIP AND THEY WERE ABLE TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE TIE RODS. HOWEVER, THE VIBRATION IN MY STEERING WHEEL REMAINS. I BELIEVE THAT OVERTIME, THE SUBSTANDARD TIE RODS ORIGINALLY INSTALLED BY THE MANUFACTURER MAY HAVE AFFECTED AND/OR DAMAGED ALL OTHER COMPONENTS RELATED TO STEERING. IF THEY HAVE INSTALLED THE RIGHT PARTS THEN I SHOULD HAVE BE HAVING THIS PROBLEM AND NISSAN SHOULD BE LIABLE FOR THIS MATTER. I CALLED NISSAN NORTH AMERICA CONSUMER AFFAIRS YESTERDAY AND THE LADY WHO HAS AN INDIAN ACCENT HUNG UP ON ME. I HOPE THAT NHSTA COULD DO SOMETHING REGARDING THIS ISSUE.
vehicle started making noises when turning as well as severe steering wheel vibration. there are over 230,000, 2022 sentras that have a recall on bent tie rods. they already had to warrenty a cv axel not even a year into my purchase. We purchased this 2022 sentra in 2022. The car shakes during acceleration, as well as put my familys life at risk due to the car continuously pulling itself to the right when having to take the interstate. It is available for inspection upon request. It has not been confirmed by a dealer, due to the fact they said im not on the list for recall, but am having the same exact problems as other 2022 sentras that have been recalled. They want to charge 230 dollars just for a diagnostic. No warning lamps or messages appeared. When they changed the CV axel while under warrenty, they said thats whats making the popping like noise when i turn. The noise came back and wont go away, and now im experiancing other symptoms related to the recall.
My car has suddenly slammed brea while driving on empty road at nigh as if I was going to crash but there has been nothing there it has been on empty road but it has completely slammed te breaks on it’s own I have been lucky that I don’t have any cars behind me or they would crash behind me last time I was alone but this time I was with my girlfriend my car slammed the breaks so hard that she ended up slamming her face on the dashboard I need answeres on this because I’m starting to get scared of driving this car if it keeps doing that
On August 21, 2024, my daughter was driving the car and was in the drive thru to get breakfast. As she turn the corner and was in the line to pick up her meal, the car wouldn’t move. She tapped on the gas once more, upon doing so the car veered to the left ( she had no control in the steering) and the tire rod broke causing her to crash into the small cement barrier. I call the dealership where I purchased the vehicle and I was advised to contact Nissan Consumer. The vehicle is not drivable and I was advised to have it towed to a dealership, where it has been for a month now. The inspector went to the dealership over two weeks ago. I was told I would receive an a call regarding the results to determine if Nissan was at fault ( this makes no sense since there’s an open recall and the tie rod is bent/broken). I’ve yet to hear from Nissan Consumer with the results. I’ve left 2 messages and no one has returned my call. The dealership is charging a daily storage fee, car/insurance payments are being made on a vehicle that’s not in my possession. My daughter has to pay for Uber rides for her classes at the school where she has to do observations for her degree. She has to pay for grocery delivery. Additionally, my daughter is a recent kidney transplant recipient. She has doctors appointments she must attend. Without a vehicle, I have to go to a different city to pick her up, take her to the appointment and bring her back. Which means I have to take off from work ( loss wages/ or use vacation time) which I shouldn’t have to, until this issue is rectified. I understand the protocol and we’re not the only consumers with issue, but over a month is ridiculous.
The contact owns a 2022 Nissan Sentra. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V581000 (Steering); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
Any time cruise control is used rear collision and front collision lights come on causing the car to not be able to be driven when using cruise control. Transmission is shifting way harder than it should.. radio sometimes glitches.
Experiencing major vibration in the steering wheel and tires especially when accelerating.
Window child locks randomly locks windows in position. There's no reason for it to lock them. I've never tried to engage them on purpose since I have no children. Sometimes pushing the child lock hard several times will allow them to unlock but it may lock in that position so I really can't use 3 windows.
To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the ongoing safety issue with the 2022 Nissan Sentra, NHTSA Recall Number 23V-581. This recall, which has been open since August 2023, poses a significant safety risk to drivers and other vehicles on the road and their passengers. What is particularly concerning is that similar issues were reported in the 2021 Nissan Sentra models, indicating that this problem has been persistent and ongoing. Despite this, no estimate for a remedy has been provided, leaving affected vehicle owners in a state of uncertainty and potential danger. Furthermore, the fact that the 2024 version of the Nissan Sentra is already in sales without any reported similar problem suggests that Nissan has found a solution for the new versions. This raises questions about why no action has been taken to address this critical safety issue in previous models. It is imperative that Nissan takes immediate action to rectify this issue for the 2022 Nissan Sentra models. Owners should not have to wait any longer for a solution, especially when the safety of themselves and others is at stake. The apparent lack of commitment by Nissan to address this issue promptly and effectively is deeply concerning and must be rectified without delay. I urge the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to request a deadline commitment by Nissan on finding a solution to provide a safety remedy as soon as possible. The safety of drivers must always be the top priority.
The rods and driver wheel are defective
Unresolved knock/pop sound coming from the front wheel passenger side. Dealer replaced front passenger strut, this did not resolved the issue. Apparently now the dealer is telling me it's an engine mount that will get an engineering update soon from the manufacturer.
Pending recall taking too long to resolve.
When I turn my wheel right or left one side make a lot of noise. It’s putting me as risk or driiving and messing up my tires I got a message saying there was recall problem and I can see and hear it needs to be fixed and no haven’t been inspected and it been since last year January and no lights but messing up my tires because I had to get new ones
My problem is I have a 2022 Nissan Sentra sv and it has a recall on it for tie rod inner and the dealership won’t fix it or sell me the parts for it and the car been sitting on home for more then a month so please help me out
Tire rod recall. My vehicle has been vibrating and there is a knocking sound coming from under the car for over 1 year. Vehicle was inspected by Nissan dealership who notified me there was no vibration during test drive. Dealership says that the tire rod was not bent, so they could not replace the tire rod. Nissan closed the recall on my vehicle however, vibration/knocking sound continue. I contacted Nissan consumer affairs and was notified that they could not replace the tire rod and that the case for my vehicle could not be reopened even if I get a second opinion.

On [XXX] my son [XXX] took the Nissan Sentra in for service at Coggin Nissan for a routine oil change. My son told me before I made the appointment for service that he thought that some of his fluids may be low because the steering felt weird. I requested that the steering and other fluids be checked as well as the tire pressure. After the service on the Sentra was completed service we were provided with their recommendation for additional services. They listed that the all four tires were worn and needed to be replaced which I thought was odd. They also recommended an alignment and replacing the brakes pads. There was no mention of any other services being required or any mention of a recall. Before leaving I asked the gentleman at the counter if the fluids and tire pressure had been checked and he said they were and that they do a multi point inspection on all vehicles being serviced. I also mentioned to the gentleman that my son was still having problems with his battery, and it was brand new. The gentleman stated that the batteries are not made the same as they used to be and don’t last us long. On Saturday [XXX], just a few days after having the car serviced my son [XXX] was taking his girlfriend home at around 10:30 pm and was driving on [XXX] before getting on [XXX]. He was having issues with his steering and was unable to steer, losing control but was somehow able to pull in to the parking lot of a bank. He hit a curb or something, the tire blew out and he doesn't think he hit anything else but the front bottom front piece on car was hanging and had to be removed. There was also some other damage near tire. I thank God that he hadn't gotten on the highway when this occurred otherwise this could’ve been a lot worse and lives could have been lost. Water seepage under driver and passenger floor.
Nothing happened but my vehicle does experience shaking when driving.
Kinergy [XXX] . My tire indicated low air in my passenger side rear tire. When I went to put air in the tire I noticed a huge bulge and or separation of the sidewall of the tire. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Battery drained overnight after a day of normal use. Upon trying to start the vehicle, there is a message that states the key is not present and to get it near the push-button. After multiple attempts, the battery was checked with a voltmeter, the battery was bellow 9-volts. The vehicle had to be jump started and taken to the dealer. Battery was replaced, the report says the electrical system is in order and that was only a faulty battery
The electronic steering control unit stops working while driving. This is dangerous and a known problem. The parts are on back order because all available supply in US is depleted. Also the front sensors for safety turn off in the rain.
This recall was opened a year ago! Aug 15,2023 Manufacturer Recall NumberR23B3 NHTSA Recall Number23V-581 Recall StatusRecall Incomplete, remedy not yet available Nissan, the manufacturer, has failed or is unable to remedy this safety recall for the vehicle in a timely manner. For something that is simple to reproduce they should have a replacement TIE ROD END now. And I cannot remove my Sentra from your list/database if I replace the part myself or my mechanic. Why is that? Since NISSAN is not able or unwilling to make a replacement, Please remove my VIN from your recall list for this item: 23V-581. Thank you.
The contact owns a 2022 Nissan Sentra. The contact stated while driving 25 MPH, the front passenger’s side axle detached. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the failure was due to a fractured axle and wheel bearing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and determined that the vehicle was not under warranty. The failure mileage was 26,319.
My steering was out of control
The battery in my car died out of nowhere. I tried to start my car leaving from work and it wouldn’t start. I initially thought the battery in my key fob was dead because the screen in my car kept saying I needed to place the key near the push to start. Even though I already placed it directly on top of the button. I got someone to jump my car and it finally started. After that the battery still is not holding a charge. I have gotten my battery jumped 3 times since then( once a day) and the dealership charged it at the service center. The service advisor confirmed the issue is with the battery. Every time I turn my car off, it won’t start again without a jump. Also I got my car serviced by Nissan for an oil change and tire rotation on 06/21/2023. And they performed a multi point inspection of my car. On the report, everything concerning my battery was marked green. Indicating that it had no issues. My Sentra is also programmed to have a warning sensor icon/ pop up if the battery is low which never came on.

The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic who advised the contact to take the vehicle to a dealer for assistance. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V421000 (Structure); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 30,700.
An episode of "Parasitic Drain" occurred again. I drove the car for two short trips yesterday, Saturday, May 27. This morning, Sunday, May 28, the battery was completely drained, and I had to use the physical key to open the door to open the hood. Ever since this exact experience occurred with the car about a year ago, I have been extra vigilant to make sure the radio, air conditioning, lights, everything, are turned off whenever I park and leave the car. I will report this as well to the dealer, Hart Nissan of Springfield, Virginia. Thank you.
Headlights dim when pressing the accelerator, brighten when releasing pressure on the accelerator. The problem has been continuous since purchasing the vehicle five months ago. The vehicle was inspected by the dealership service department, which advised they observed no issue.

Clicking / Popping noises when turning the steering wheel. Diagnosis bad insulator-engine mounting harness. RPM / idle issues and jerking while driving. Diagnosis reprogrammed engine control module. Problem still present and worse, than prior to reprogram. Cruise control slows vehicle on slight curve, no warning for drivers being no brake lights when it slows. New vehicle with so many problems and I do not feel safe. Unreliability and costly due to time missed at work, paying for a rental car and adding miles each trip to the dealership.
Windows intermittently stop working/ do not go up or down. Poses a serious safety risk when not able to roll up widows when environmental factors are hazardous. Dealer determined faulty master switch on driver side
