MY 2005 NISSAN XTERRA SE WITH 82K MILES HAD THE RADIATOR FAIL, LEAKING COOLANT INTO THE TRANSMISSION. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH NISSAN SUVS AND TRUCKS FOR AT LEAST 2005-2007 MODEL YEARS. NISSAN VOLUNTARILY EXTENDED THEIR WARRANTY TO COVER THIS TYPE OF ISSUE TO 80K MILES, BUT IT SEEMS TYPICAL FORM THE MANY ONLINE MESSAGE BOARDS ADDRESSING THIS ISSUE THAT THE PROBLEM ARISES AFTER 80K MILES. NISSAN REFUSES TO COVER ANY OF THE COSTS OF REPAIR. *TR
RADIATOR FAILED LEAKING COOLANT INTO TRANSMISSION. RADIATOR HAD TO BE REPLACED AND TRANSMISSION REBUILT AT AN OUT OF POCKET COST OF $3,800. *TR
RADIATOR FAILURE CAUSING FLUID TO DRAIN INTO TRANSMISSION. THIS CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE TRANSMISSION AND TORQUE CONVERTER. I WAS LEFT STRANDED WITHOUT WARNING IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. *TR THE TRANSMISSION WAS REBUILT, THE TORQUE CONVERTER WAS REPLACED, AN EXTERNAL TRANSMISSION WAS INSTALLED. COST OF REPAIR: $2,852.
I OWN A 2005 NISSAN XTERRA. MY PROBLEM STARTED WITH THE FUEL LEVELING SYSTEM AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON. IT WAS THE FUEL LEVELING SENDER. MY FUEL WAS NOT REGISTERING CORRECTLY AT ALL. NEXT CAME STALLING OF MY SUV. I WOULD BE DRIVING AND IT WOULD ACT AS IF IT WAS RUNNING OUT OF GAS AND CUT OFF. THAT TURN OUT TO BE THE EMC, IN WHICH I PAID FOR BUT WAS REIMBURSE BECAUSE NISSAN ISSUED A RECALL FOR THE EMC. THIS DID NOT FIX THE FUEL LEVELING SENDER PROBLEM. A FEW MONTHS LATER, MY SUV WAS HAVING A "HARD CRANK". IT JUST DID NOT WANT TO TURN OVER. IT WOULD STALL WHILE DRIVING. I WOULD JUST CUT OFF. I TOOK THAT TO A DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE CAM SENSORS. SO, I HAD THE CAM SENSORS REPLACED AND I HAD THE FUEL LEVEL SENDER REPLACED. IT WAS RECOMMENDED THAT I HAVE A MULT-POINT INSPECTION, SO I HAD EVERYTHING WITH THAT REPLACE. I SPENT A $1000, ONLY FOR MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME BACK ON THE NEXT DAY. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THEM TO TELL ME NOW IT IS THE CATALYST CONVERTERS AND BOTH NEEDS TO BE REPLACE. THE PRICE FOR BOTH PARTS ALONE WAS $1300. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY SO MANY XTERRA OWNERS ARE HAVING THESE TYPES OF PROBLEMS AND NISSAN ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR FIXING THEM. THEY WILL OFFER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AFTER THE FACT, BUT BY THE TIME THE PROBLEM OCCUR A 2005 DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE CATALYST CONVERTERS AFFECTS THE CLEAN AIR FOR YOUR VEHICLE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
FUEL GAUGE IS NOT WORKING, SERVICE ENGINE SOON IS ON ALL THE TIME. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF SENSOR WAS ILLUMINATED WITH THE PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPIED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WARNING LIGHT HAD BEEN CONSTANTLY FLASHING SINCE FEBRUARY 20, 2011. SHE CALLED HER LOCAL DEALER AND WAS ADVISED THAT HER VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V690000 (AIR BAGS:FRONTAL). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 122,470.
THE CAR BEGAN TO HAVE A SHAKING FEELING LIKE YOU WERE DRIVING OVER A RUMBLE STRIP ABOUT 4 MONTHS AGO. WE TOOK THE CAR TO DEALER AND THEY DETERMINED WE HAD THE ISSUE THAT NISSAN HAD REPORTED MAY HAPPEN WHERE THE RADIATOR FAILS AND COOLANT GETS INTO THE TRANSMISSION. THE DEALER SAID THE ENTIRE COOLING SYSTEM AND TRANSMISSION WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AND THE COST WOULD BE $6500.00. NISSAN HAD SENT US A LETTER LAST YEAR STATING THEY HAD EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THE RADIATOR AND ALL OF ITS CORRESPONDING PARTS TO 80,000 MILES/96 MONTHS. OUR VEHICLE HAS 94,000 MILES ON IT. I CALLED NISSAN AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD DO NOTHING. WE ARE CURRENTLY FIXING PART OF THE PROBLEM BY FIXING THE RADIATOR AND FLUSHING THE TRANSMISSION. WHEN WE HAVE MORE FUNDING WE WILL HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REBUILT BECAUSE WE CANNOT AFFORD TO PURCHASE THE NEW TRANSMISSION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V517000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. AFTER LEAVING THE DEALER, THE DRIVER NOTICED THAT ALL THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WERE FLASHING ON AND OFF ABNORMALLY AS THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART AND WAS TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER THEN ADVISED THAT THEY REPAIRED THE RECALLED COMPONENT ONLY AND THAT THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO ASSIST IN ANY OTHER WAY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 76,000.
RATTLE SHAKE FEEL AT 45 MPH. LOOSENED TRANSMISSION DRAIN PLUG. TRANSMISSION FLUID HAS ANTIFREEZE MIXED WITH IT. *TR
ON FEBRUARY 07, 2011 I WAS DRIVING MY 2005 NISSAN XTERRA AT 55 MPH ON A TWO LANE HIGHWAY WHEN IT BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AS IF I HAD RAN OVER SPILLED LUMBER OR RUMBLE STRIPS. I BRAKED HARD AS I THOUGHT I HAD RAN OVER SOMETHING. I HADN'T, SO AFTER PULLING OVER AND CHECKING FOR LOOSE TIRES OR DRIVELINE I CONTINUE ON PERPLEXED AS TO WHAT HAPPENED. A FEW MILES LATER IT DID IT AGAIN. COME TO FIND OUT THERE IS A KNOWN DEFECT ON 2005 THRU 2010 NISSAN XTERRA'S, PATHFINDERS, AND FRONTIER'S IN WHICH THE RADIATORS INTERNALLY LEAK WATER INTO THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS AND CAUSES THE VIOLENT SHAKING AT HIGH SPEEDS. NISSAN IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND HAS ONLY CHOSEN TO EXTEND THE WARRANTY ON THE RADIATORS AND NOT RECALL THE VEHICLES. IN FACT THE LETTER SENT TO THE CONSUMERS DOESN'T EVEN REFERENCE THE TRANSMISSION (IN WHICH IT DESTROYS). WHILE MY FAMILY AND I WERE NOT HURT, IT WAS A CLOSE CALL AND COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN WORSE AT THE SPEED I WAS GOING AND THE EFFECT THE FAILURE HAS ON THE VEHICLE. *TR
TWICE IN THE LAST DAY THE CAR HAS ACCELERATED IN AN UNCONTROLLED MANNER. FIRST WAS IN MODERATE TRAFFIC ABOUT 30 MPH AFTER DRIVING FOR ABOUT 40 MINUTES. STEPPING ON THE BRAKES WITH FULL FORCE BARELY SLOWED THE CAR. WENT TO BREAKDOWN AND JUST MISSED ANOTHER CAR. SECOND TIME THIS AM. STARTED THE CAR PUT IT IN REVERSE AND THE ENGINE TOOK OFF AT 3000 TO 4000 RPM. FORTUNATELY IT WAS ON SNOW IN DRIVEWAY AND NO ONE WAS BEHIND. COULD NOT STOP THE WHEELS FROM SPINNING. EVENTUALLY GOT IT INTO PARK. ONLY WORK ON THIS ENGINE WAS RECALL WORK DONE 2 WEEKS AGO INVOLVING THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF. SHE PULLED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND HAD IT TOWED TO A DEALER. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE ENGINE AND STATED THE TIMING CHAIN BROKE AND THE ENTIRE ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC FOR A SECOND OPINION. THE LOCAL MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONTACT THE ENGINE DOES NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 131,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
FUEL GAUGE STAYS AT EMPTY AND SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT COME ON. *TR
DRIVING OF VEHICLE HAS RESULTED IN THE FAILURE OF THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. THERE APPEARS TO BE A DESIGN FLAW IN THE COOLING SYSTEM TO LEAK ONTO THE TRANSMISSION CAUSING FAILURE. THE ONLY OPTION IS REPLACEMENT OF THE TRANSMISSION. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO VIBRATE. THE CONTACT STATED, IF THEY DECREASE AND INCREASE THE SPEED THE VEHICLE WOULD FUNCTION NORMALLY FOR A SHORT TIME AND THEN THE FAILURE WOULD RECUR. THE DEALER REPLACED THE FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS, THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE MOST RECENT REPAIR WAS A FIELD LINE DRIVE VIBRATION CHECK, BUT THAT DID NOT REPAIR THE FAILURE. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
JUST BOUGHT A 05 XTERRA FOR MY WIFE FOR X-MAS. NEEDED 4-WHEEL DRIVE DUE TO THE AREA WE LIVE AND KIDS TO BE SAFE. 3 WEEKS AFTER BUYING IT HAS STARTED TO RUMBLE AND NOT SHIFT TO OD. AT APROX. 40-60 MPH IT IS CONSTANT WHEN KEEPING AND STEADY SPEED OR WHILE CRUISE CONTROL IS ON AND AT A SLIGHT ACCELERATION. READ THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS WITH SAME ISSUES AND ALL HAVE HAD RADIATOR AND TRANY FLUID MIXING PROBLEMS CAUSING BOTH NEEDED REPLACED. MINE HAS 70,000 MILES ON IT. NISSAN RECOMMENDED A TRANY FLUSH LIKE THE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS I HAVE READ. THIS JUST TEMPORARILY STOPS THE PROBLEM. PRETTY MUCH TILL UR WARRANTY IS UP AND THEY CAN STEAL UR MONEY. *TR

THE AUTHORIZED DEALER WAS UNABLE TO REPLICATE OR DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TIMING BELT WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO ADVISED THAT THERE WAS A LEAK IN THE ENGINE. ADDITIONALLY, WHEN THE HOOD WAS OPENED THE CAP TO THE TRANSMISSION OVERFLOW WAS MISSING AND WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER FOR FURTHER INSPECTION AND DIAGNOSIS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 65,000.

AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WAS UNABLE TO REPLICATE NOR DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AGAIN WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIMING NEEDED TO BE RESET. THE TIMING WAS RESET AND THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO LEAKING FLUID; THE HOOD WAS OPENED AND THE CAP TO THE TRANSMISSION OVERFLOW FLUID WAS MISSING HOWEVER, THE DEALER REPLACED THE CAP. THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO HEAR A LOUD NOISE INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR FURTHER INSPECTION AND DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
2005 XTERRA WITH 60,000, P0463 COMPUTER ERROR, WHICH IS THE FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT. (SENSOR A, CIRCUIT HIGH INPUT)
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO SHAKE EXCESSIVELY. THE FAILURE RECURRED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE TRANSMISSION WAS FLUSHED. THE MECHANIC ALSO STATED THAT THE RADIATOR WAS CRACKED AND LEAKING TRANSMISSION FLUID INTO THE ENGINE. AS A RESULT, SEVERE DAMAGE WAS BEING DONE TO THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
THE FUEL SENDING UNIT FAILED ON MY 2005 NISSAN XTERRA CAUSING ME TO RUN OUT OF GAS ON THE HIGHWAY. I NEEDED TO WALK APPROXIMATELY 2 MILES ON HIGHWAY TO CONTACT A TOW TRUCK. *TR
THE FUEL SENDING UNIT IS BAD ON MY 2005 NISSAN XTERRA IT IS THROWING A P0463 CODE AND AFTER SOME RESEARCH I FOUND IT AN APPARENT PROBLEM IN MOST 2ND GENERATION XTERRA'S AND FRONTIERS. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE FUEL SENDING UNIT TELLS THE GAUGE HOW MUCH GAS IS IN THE TANK AND SINCE IT IS NOW WORKING THE GAUGE IS NOT READING THE PROPER AMOUNT OF GAS WHICH CAN LEAD TO A ACCIDENT WHEN THE VEHICLE RUNS OUT OF FUEL. *TR
I JUST RECENTLY STARTED EXPERIENCING A 'SHUDDER' UNDER MILD ACCELERATION BETWEEN 40-60 MPH WITH MY 05XTERRA, V6 4X4 (~120K MILES). FEELS LIKE MY REAR WHEELS ARE GOING OVER A RUMBLE STRIP AND ONLY LASTS A FEW BRIEF MOMENTS. TOOK MY XTERRA BACK TO DEALER AND THEY INDICATED POSSIBILITY OF TRANSMISSION COOLER LEAK ALLOWING ANTIFREEZE TO ENTER TORQUE CONVERTER AND TRANSMISSION CAUSING SLIPPAGE; ALTHOUGH THEY CHECKED MY FLUIDS AND NO CROSS CONTAMINATION WAS EVIDENT. THEY RECOMMENDED REPLACING TORQUE CONVERTER, TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR...TO THE TUNE OF ~$5000...THERE'S GOT TO BE BETTER ANSWER...AND ACCOUNTABILITY ON THEIR PART...I SEARCHED ON LINE AND FOUND THAT I'M NOT ALONE WITH THIS ISSUE... A NUMBER OF FOLKS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE...NISSAN HAS EVEN ACKNOWLEDGED A PROBLEM AND HAS EXTENDED THEIR WARRANTY ON THE RADIATOR, BUT NOT THE TORQUE CONVERTER, BUT MY MILEAGE EXCEEDS THE EXTENDED PERIOD; IF THEY KNOW OF THE ISSUE, WHY ISN'T THERE A RE-CALL...IF THE TORQUE CONVERTER FAILS WHILE DRIVING, IT WILL MOST CERTAINLY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT...PROBLEM IS GETTING WORSE AND MORE FREQUENT...THERE NEEDS TO BE ACTION BY NISSAN TO CORRECT THIS CONDITION BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED DUE TO A KNOWN PROBLEM... *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 20 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE STARTED TO JERK VIOLENTLY AND THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL INCREASE IN ENGINE RPMS BEFORE SHIFTING INTO GEAR. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LAMP WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION FLUIDS HAD MIXED ERRONEOUSLY AND BOTH THE TRANSMISSION AND THE RADIATOR WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. IN ADDITION, THE BELT TENSION SENSOR WOULD ALSO NEED TO BE REPLACED IN ORDER TO REPAIR THE AIR BAG SYSTEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO OFFERED TO WAIVE THE FEE OF DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 87,000.
P0463 ERROR CODE FULE LEVEL SENSOR. *TR
I HAVE THE SAME ISSUE AS DESCRIBED IN RECALL #10V075000. THIS AFFECTED 2006 NISSAN XTERRAS, MINE IS A 2005. THE FUEL GAUGE DROPS TO EMPTY WHEN THE TANK IS FILLED, AFTER DRIVING AWHILE IT STARTS TO CLIMB BACK UP TO READ NEAR FULL, THEN IT WILL APPEARS TO DECREASE AS NORMAL, BUT YOU NEVER KNOW HOW MUCH FUEL IS ACTUALLY IN THE TANK, SO YOU HAVE TO BASE IT ON MILES TRAVELED. THE PROBLEM IS YOU NEVER KNOW IF THE STATION ATTENDANT (I LIVE IN OR SO YOU CAN'T FILL YOUR OWN VEHICLE WITH GAS) HAS ACTUALLY FILLED THE TANK OR DID IT CLICK OFF EARLY AGAIN, WHICH IT FREQUENTLY DOES. SO YOU CAN RUN OUT OF GAS EASILY, BECAUSE YOU HAVE A FUEL GAUGE THAT DOESN'T FUNCTION CORRECTLY. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE ABOUT 2011, BUT I'M TIRED OF DEALING WITH IT. DON'T KNOW THE ACTUAL DATE WHEN THIS PROBLEM STARTED, BUT IT HAS BEEN ONGOING.
MY 2005 XTERRA WITH 82K MILES STARTED VIBRATING BADLY WHEN ACCELERATING OVER 50MPH. IT FELT LIKE I WAS DRIVING OVER RUMBLE STRIPS. I CALLED NISSAN ASSIST ON 12/29/2010 AND WAS TOLD MY RADIATOR HAD FAILED, LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND TOTALLY DESTROYED IT. MY ONLY OPTION WAS A $4600 REPLACEMENT OF THE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION. THE NISSAN ASSIST GUY THEN TOLD ME THAT NISSAN KNEW ABOUT THE PROBLEM, BUT INSTEAD OF ISSUING A RECALL, THEY SIMPLY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY FROM 60K TO 72K MILES (THIS WAS AN ERROR ON HIS PART, BECAUSE THE EXTENSION WAS ACTUALLY TO 80K MILES). REGARDLESS, IT DIDN'T APPLY TO ME BECAUSE I WAS AT 82K MILES. NISSAN IS TRYING TO EASE THE PAIN WITH EXTENDING THE WARRANTY HOWEVER, THEY MAKE NO ATTEMPT TO CONTACT YOU ABOUT IT. YOU EITHER NEED TO FIND IT YOURSELF OR YOUR SCREWED. *TR
FUEL GAUGE WENT INOP AT APPROX 90,000 MILES. NISSAN HAD EXTENDED THE FUEL GAUGE WARRANTY TO 72,000 WHICH IS RIDICULOUS CONSIDERING MOST XTERRA'S, PATHFINDERS, AND FRONTIERS HAVE THIS PROBLEM. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL, NOT A WARRANTY EXTENSION. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. RUNNING OUT OF GAS ON THE HIGHWAY IS DANGEROUS. *TR
ON SATURDAY DECEMBER 18, 2010 I NOTICED A VIBRATION IN MY 2005 NISSAN XTERRA. THE FOLLOWING MONDAY I TOOK IT TO A DEALER FOR SERVICE. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THE FAILURE IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND THAT IT OCCURS WITH NO WARNING...NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, NO NOTICEABLE DETERIORATION OF PERFORMANCE, IT JUST HAPPENS. HE SAID THAT IN A WORST-CASE SCENARIO, THE VEHICLE'S TRANSMISSION COULD SEIZE CAUSING AN IMMEDIATE STOP AND LOSS OF CONTROL. WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURRED ON MY XTERRA, I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE TRAVELING 60-70MPH. NISSAN KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND HAS EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THE RADIATOR BY 20,000 MILES (TO 80K FROM 60K) BUT THEY REFUSE TO ISSUE A RECALL EVEN THOUGH THIS PROBLEM AFFECTS ALL OF THEIR MID-SIZED TRUCKS AND SUVS MANUFACTURED IN 2005. FURTHERMORE, NISSAN ISSUED THIS EXTENSION TO DEALERSHIPS AND NOT DIRECTLY TO CONSUMERS. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF THE CHANGE OR ANY POTENTIAL PROBLEM. MY HUSBAND AND I PURCHASED OUR 2005 NISSAN XTERRA, 17 MILES YOUNG. EXACTLY ONE MONTH AFTER WE PURCHASED, THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL WENT OUT AND WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. INCIDENT OCCURRED FREQUENTLY AT DIFFERING SPEEDS FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL MONTHS. NO OTHER PROBLEMS WERE EVIDENT AT THAT TIME. IN NOVEMBER 2010 WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY VEHICLE BEGAN OVERHEATING, BLOWING HOT AIR THROUGH AIR CONDITIONER, AND REGISTERING HOT ON GAUGE. VEHICLE WAS IMMEDIATELY TAKEN TO LOCAL MECHANIC WHO WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE PROBLEM. THE NEXT DAY VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP WHERE CAR WAS PURCHASED AND TOLD THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO RADIATOR FLUID LEAK. AFTER RESEARCH AND FINDING THAT THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE THE OWNER DECIDED NOT TO HAVE THE VEHICLE FIXED AT HER EXPENSE AND IS NOT DRIVING THE VEHICLE UNTIL AN AGREEMENT IS MADE WITH NISSAN. WHILE THERE WERE NO INJURIES OR ACCIDENTS IN THIS INCIDENCE RESEARCH SHOWS THAT THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS REPORTS OF TRANSMISSION FAILURES IN TRAFFIC EITHER CAUSING OR ALMOST CAUSING ACCIDENTS. QUITE OFTEN THE GAUGE WILL DROP DOWN TO EMPTY AND I'VE GONE TO FILL THE TRUCK UP JUST IN CASE AND END UP PUTTING ONLY A FEW GALLONS OF FUEL IN THE TRUCK. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES, ALTHOUGH ITS NOT A SAFETY CONCERN I DO BELIEVE THAT THE GAUGE SHOWING THE TANK IS AT 3/4 OR MORE THEN DROPPING DOWN TO 1/4 TANK (THE ACTUAL AMOUNT OF FUEL) IS ONE. THIS '05 XTERRA HAD A THOROUGH CHECK OUT & DIAGNOSTIC. THEN 500 MILES LATER, AT AROUND 46000 MILES, WHEN THE FUEL INDICATOR WAS AT 1/2 TANK- THE NEEDLE SUDDENLY PLUNGED TO BELOW EMPTY, A LIGHT CAME ON AND THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT CAME ON. THIS WAS ALL VERY ALARMING, AND WE WERE STUCK IN BUMPER-BUMPER TRAFFIC IN A BAD PART OF PHOENIX WHEN IT HAPPENED. IT WASN'T HOT OUT, JUST A BIG TRAFFIC JAM IN 5:00 RUSH, AND WE WERE NOWHERE NEAR A GAS STATION. IT WAS TERRIBLE, AND WE WERE VERY SCARED TO BE STRANDED. AFTER THAT WE BOUGHT A HUGE GAS CAN, AND JUST DROVE AROUND WITH 10 GALLONS OF GAS JUST IN CASE. THAT IS TERRIBLE, TO HAVE TO DRIVE WONDERING IF WHEN YOU'LL ACTUALLY RUN OUT OF GAS, VS. I NOTICED IN THE SPRING OF 2010 MY 05 NISSAN XTERRA BEGAN TO STALL AND SPUTTER AT VARIOUS TIMES. I BEGAN TO NOTICE A PINK/ROSE COLORED SUBSTANCE ON THE GROUND UNDERNEATH THE FRONT OF MY TRUCK. IN JULY CAR WOULDN'T DRIVE AT ALL AND JERKED WHEN IT FINALLY DID MOVE. I TOOK IT TO A SHOP AND GOT A DIAGNOSIS OF A FAULTY RADIATOR. HAD THAT REPLACED AT A COST OF $1200.00 WAS INFORMED THAT THE COOLANT AND TRANSMISSION FLUID MIXED CAUSING THE BREAKDOWN. I DROVE FOR ANOTHER FEW MONTHS WHEN THE TRUCK GAVE OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC HAD TO HAVE THE TRUCK TOWED TO YET ANOTHER SHOP FOR REPAIR. I WAS INFORMED THAT MY TRANSMISSION WAS TOAST DUE TO THE MIXING OF THE FLUIDS AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED/REBUILT AT OWNER'S EXPENSE. NISSAN HAS YET TO ADMIT THAT THE 05 XTERRA'S HAVE RADIATOR FAULTS AND RECALL SAID VEHICLES. TO GET THE TRANSMISSION REBUILT AT A COST TO ME OF $2500 AND YET I AM STILL HAVING ISSUES WITH THE TRUCK. I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE ECM RELAY AND HAD THAT CORRECTED DUE TO "CAN CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STOP RUNNING WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH." MY QUESTION IS IF THE COMPANY CAN ISSUE A RECALL FOR THIS MATTER THEN WHY NOT FOR THE FAULTY RADIATORS THAT LEAD TO DESTROYED TRANSMISSIONS. I JUST GOT MY TRUCK OUT OF THE SHOP AND JUST HAD THE ECM REPLACED AND YET MY TRUCK STILL STALLS. I OWN A 2005 NISSAN XTERRA 4X4 OFF-ROAD SUV (VIN#[XXX]), AROUND 50,300MI. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED ON NOV. 5, 2010 AROUND 11PM. MY XTERRA STARTED TO STALL ON THE FREEWAY AND I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD SAFELY WHERE THE ENGINE DIED. I TRIED RE-STARTING IT AND THE ENGINE RAN ROUGH, SO I TURNED IT OFF.
