FAILED TRANSMISSION COOLER-ENGINE JERKS AT SPEEDS 40 MPH AND HIGHER. *TR
MY TRANSMISSION STOPPED SHIFTING, I TOOK IT TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP AN WAS TOLD MY ATF LINE THAT RUNS THROUGH AN ENGINE COOLANT CHAMBER IN THE RADIATOR FAILED AND GET RADIATOR FLUID IN MY TRANSMISSION AND THAT MY TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED/REBUILT. NOW I AM STRANDED WITH OUT A VEHICLE WHEN MY VEHICLE ONLY HAS 85000 MILES ON IT AND HAS HAD REGULAR MAINTENANCE WORK ON IT. I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED AND I WOULD LIKE TO SEE NISSAN STEP UP AND BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR AN ISSUE THAT IS ACCRUING BECAUSE OF FAULTY FACTORY PARTS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE SERVICE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED IN ADDITION TO THE FUEL LEV EL GAUGE INACCURATELY INDICATING THAT THE FUEL TANK WAS EMPTY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL SENDING UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,200.
FIRST NOTICED A STUTTERING WHEN DRIVING AND A CLUNKING SOUND WHEN MOVING THE SHIFTER FROM PARK TO REVERSE TO DRIVE IN FEBRUARY. ALSO EXPERIENCED NO HEAT AND OVER HEATING IN MARCH. UPON REPAIR OF THERMOSTAT, DRAINING THE RADIATOR SHOWED AN ACCUMULATION OF THICK GREY GUNK IN THE COOLANT. THERMOSTAT SEAL ITSELF WAS MELTED. HAD DEALER EVALUATE CLUNKING SOUND AND THEY DIAGNOSED IT AS INTERMIX (THE PROBLEM IDENTIFIED BY THE COOLANT) A MANUFACTURING DEFECT IN THE RADIATOR/TRANSMISSION COOLING COMPONENTS THAT ALLOWS THE COOLANT TO CONTAMINATE THE TRANSMISSION FLUID CAUSING TRANSMISSION DAMAGE. AS A RESULT OF CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT, DEALERSHIP EXPLAINED THAT MILEAGE WAS OVER THE NISSAN WARRANTY LIMIT OF 100,000 EVEN THOUGH THE PROBLEM DID NOT MANIFEST UNTIL ALMOST 120,000 MILES. RECOMMENDED FIX WAS IN STAGES - 1) REPLACE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION FLUSH $1200++ 2) IF PROBLEM IS NOT SOLVED, REPLACE TRANSMISSION $4000++ HAVE TALKED WITH NISSAN CORPORATE TO NO AVAIL. I WAS TOLD TIMING CHAIN OF VEHICLE NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE CAR ONLY HAD 65,000 MILES AND THIS REPAIR IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH NISSAN THAT THEY ARE FAILING TO ADDRESS TO CONSUMERS. REPAIRS COSTING 1,500 PLUS DOLLARS FOR REPAIR OF ENGINE CHAIN. IF IGNORED, THIS COULD CAUSE AN EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD WHILE DRIVING AT A MODERATE SPEED. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS SERVICE/PART. *TR
TRANSMISSION FAILURE IN MY 07 NISSAN XTERRA. A COMPLETE LOSS OF MOTIVE POWER AND NEEDED TO BE TOWED. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A FAILED TRANSMISSION FLUID COOLER LOCATED IN THE RADIATOR ASSEMBLY THAT ALLOWED COOLANT TO MIX WITH AND CONTAMINATE THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID, RESULTING IN DAMAGED INTERNAL TRANSMISSION COMPONENTS AND A DAMAGED INTERNAL TRANSMISSION COMPUTER. WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES AND THE NISSAN CORPORATION IS WELL AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM. *TR
WHILE DRIVING, IT WOULD FEEL/SOUND LIKE I RAN OVER THE SPEED BUMPS ON THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE. THE VEHICLE THEN STARTED JERKING INTO GEAR. WE IMMEDIATELY STARTED LOOKING ON THE INTERNET FOR POSSIBLE PROBLEMS, THE ONLY ONE THAT WE CAME UP WITH WAS THE TRANSMISSION/COOLANT ISSUE. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO NISSAN AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND WOULD COST $6,000 TO FIX. SINCE THERE WAS NO RECALL WE WOULD BE BUYING ANOTHER FAULTY TRANSMISSION/COOLANT AND COULD HAPPEN AGAIN. THIS IS NOT A NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR PROBLEM FROM WHAT WE HAVE BEEN READING, BUT A FAULTY DESIGN. WE CALLED NISSAN AND MADE A COMPLAINT WITH THEM AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. MY VEHICLE STARTED OVERHEATING TODAY 4/7/14 AND WHEN WE CHECKED THE COOLANT, IT IS THE CONSISTENCY OF A MILKSHAKE. IF NISSAN STOOD BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT THEY WOULD DO A RECALL AND GET THIS PROBLEM FIXED. WE ARE PROBABLY GOING TO HAVE TO GET A LOAN TO GET THIS FIXED SINCE WE HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO SAVE THE MONEY UP AND THE PROBLEM IS GETTING WORSE. IT'S JUST A SHAME THAT WHEN WE DO GET THIS FIXED WE ARE BUYING ANOTHER FAULTY TRANSMISSION. IT'S A LOSE/LOSE SITUATION. THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT ON MY 07 XTERRA WENT OFF WHEN LEAVING MY GARAGE. USING MY SCANGAUGE, I FOUND OUT MY ENGINE WAS SHOWING ERROR CODE P0463. WHEN WE GOT HOME I JUMPED ON THE NET AND DISCOVERED THAT IT MEANT MY FUEL LEVEL SENSOR WAS MALFUNCTIONING AND THAT, WHILE NO REAL THREAT TO MY SAFETY WAS POSED OTHER THAN POSSIBLY RUNNING OUT OF GAS BY SURPRISE, IT SEEMS THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH XTERRAS. SO COMMON IN FACT, THAT PREVIOUS GENERATION NISSANS WERE ACTUALLY RECALLED FOR A SIMILAR ISSUE. UNFORTUNATELY, NO RECALL HAS BEEN PLACED ON THE PART FOR THE 2ND GEN YET, AND SO NISSAN CUSTOMERS ARE BEING FORCED TO HAVE THE DEALER MAKE THE REPAIR TO THE TUNE OF ABOUT $600. ALSO IT SEEM LIKE A LOT OF OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH THIS FAULTY PART ACCORDING TO THE INTERNET.
INTERNAL LEAKAGE OF ENGINE COOLANT IN TO TRANSMISSION. *TR
FAULTY FUEL GAUGE SENSOR. *TR
"CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT CAME ON. DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTER SHOWS ERROR "FUEL LEVEL SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE." THIS IS APPARENTLY A VERY, VERY COMMON PROBLEM. MECHANIC SAYS THIS WILL EVENTUALLY, IF LEFT UN-REPAIRED, DESTROY MY MAIN COMPUTER ON THE CAR. REPAIR ESTIMATE IS $700, WHICH INCLUDES A COMPLETE CHANGE-OUT OF THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY. *TR
MY CARS COOLANT GAGE JUMPED STRAIGHT TO H OUT OF NOWHERE. AFTER PULLING INTO A SHELL STATION FOR ANTIFREEZE, IT WAS APPARENT WHAT HAD HAPPENED. THERE WAS SOMETHING MIXED IN WITH THE ANTIFREEZE. IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. AFTER BEING TOLD I WOULD NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR, I STARTED RESEARCHING AND IM NOT THE ONLY ONE DEALING WITH AN OTHERWISE GREAT BODY YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING WITH AND DOUBT I WILL BE THE LAST. AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH IT APPEARS THAT NO RECALL HAS BEEN APPROVED AND I BELIEVE THERE ARE MANY OF US WONDERING WHY? THIS IS A CONSISTENT PROBLEM WITH HUNDREDS OF CARS AND IT'S NOT EVEN ONE MAKE, IT'S MANY. 3 IN MY CATEGORY. DOES A RECALL ONLY HAPPEN WHEN IT HAS FATALITY ATTACHED? THIS IS A FAULTY SYSTEM AND NISSAN APPROVED THESE COOLANTS IN THE TRANSMISSIONS AND CONTINUED TO EVEN AFTER COMPLAINTS OF THE SYSTEM. I WAS LUCKY TO CATCH MINE RIGHT AWAY BUT STILL NEED $3000 TO FIX IT! IT WON'T BE LONG UNTIL FATALITY IS ATTACHED ONCE SOMEONE'S TRANSMISSION GOES OUT ON A HIGHWAY OR IN 5 O'CLOCK TRAFFIC! I HAVE A 2007 NISSAN XTERRA WITH A COMMON ISSUE...THE FAULTY RADIATOR LEAKS INTO THE TRANSMISSION CAUSING TRANSMISSION FAILURE. THIS CAN CAUSE THE TRANSMISSION TO SEIZE UP LEAVING A MOVING CAR TO LOSE SPEED RAPIDLY WHICH IS AN UNSAFE SITUATION. THIS HAS NOT HAPPENED TO ME YET AS I CAUGHT THE ISSUE AND AM FIGHTING WITH NISSAN FOR THEM TO FIX DEFECT..UNTIL THEN I AM STUCK WITH THIS AS MY CAR. GREAT. NISSAN HAS ASKED ME TO PAY A $3K "CO-PAY" TO SHARE IN FIXING THE FAULT... *TR
THE CAR WAS ON THE FREEWAY AND JUST ALL OF A SUDDEN STARTED TO GO SLOW AND SPUTTER LIKE IT WAS IN THE WRONG GEAR. MY SON WAS DRIVING AND HE WAS HAVING TO CROSS OVER ON THE FREEWAY WHILE THE CAR WOULD NOT GO UP TO SPEED. IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS! ALL THIS LIGHT PURPLE FLUID SPILLED OUT ON THE PASSENGER FRONT SIDE, BY THE WHEEL IT WAS PURPLE AND CREAMY..... I HAD TO HAVE THE XTERRA TOWED. WE ARE STILL NOT SURE WHAT IS WRONG JUST THAT ALL THE COOLANT AND RADIATOR FLUID IS DRAINED AND IT IS MILKY LOOKING ON THE CAPS. OF BOTH. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE INDICATED THAT THERE WAS A QUARTER OF FUEL IN THE FUEL TANK AND THE VEHICLE WAS REFUELED. THE VEHICLE REMAINED INDICATING THAT THERE WAS A QUARTER OF FUEL IN THE TANK AND THEN INDICATED THAT THE FUEL TANK WAS EMPTY. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL SENDING UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 81,000. UPDATED 09/30/14*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE TURN SIGNAL WAS REPLACED. THE HORN RELAY SWITCH WAS REPLACED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. RADIATOR CRACKED LEAKING COOLANT INTO THE TRANSMISSION. *TR
THE FIRST TIME I NOTICED SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION, THE VEHICLE WOULD MAKE A LARGE VIBRATING SOUND AT RANDOM TIMES. THIS WOULD KEEP GETTING WORSE UNTIL I HAD TO BRING IT TO A SHOP, OVERALL JUST ABOUT A WEEK. I WAS TOLD THE TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR FLUIDS WERE MIXING AND THAT I NEEDED A FLUID FLUSH A LONG WITH A NEW RADIATOR. ABOUT 6 MONTHS LATER, MY CAR JUST WOULDN'T START ONE MORNING. I TAKE IT TO THE SHOP AGAIN, HOPING IT IS JUST A MINOR FIX THIS TIME. THIS TIME THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND COMPUTER SYSTEM. LUCKILY I WASN'T DRIVING WHEN THIS HAPPENED, OTHERWISE WHO KNOWS WHAT DAMAGE IT WOULD HAVE CAUSED TO THE CAR OR TO ME. *JS

I HAVE A 2007 NISSAN XTERRA WHICH STARTED TO "STUTTER" AND HESITATE WHEN PRESSING THE GAS. THE CAR ALMOST FELT LIKE IT WAS SHUTTING OFF WHILE ON I-4 HIGHWAY. THE SHUTS DOWN AND WONT START. I HAD THE CAR CHECKING AND FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS A CRACK IN MY RADIATOR AND THAT THE FLUID HAD LEAKED OVER INTO THE TRANSMISSION. I HAD THE RADIATOR REPLACED, A FEW MONTHS LATER, TRANSMISSION IS STILL NOT WORKING. I TOOK THE CAR TO NISSAN, THEY TOLD ME I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE TRANSMISSION WHICH WOULD RUN ABOUT $5200. I CALLED THE NISSAN HEADQUARTERS AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO BECAUSE MY TRUCK WAS AT 109,000 MILES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH WHEN THE DOOR LOCKS BEGAN CLICKING. WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO EXIT THE VEHICLE THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN. THE CONTACT WAS EVENTUALLY ABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE BUT THE CLICKING SOUND CONTINUED AND THE DOORS REMAINED LOCKED. WHEN THE CONTACT DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY THE CLICKING SOUND STOPPED. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE DEFECT DID NOT OCCUR ON THE HATCH DOOR OF THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR WAS THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. OUR 2007 NISSAN XTERRA, PURCHASED BRAND NEW, BEGAN TO OVERHEAT. UPON CHECKING THE FLUIDS I NOTICED THE COOLANT LEVEL WAS DANGEROUSLY LOW. I WAS CERTAINLY PUZZLED WHERE THE FLUID HAD GONE BECAUSE THERE HAS NEVER BEEN ANY VISIBLE LEAKS OR ANY WARNING LIGHTS OR ANY OTHER SYMPTOM TO DRAW MY ATTENTION. I BEGAN TO LOOK INTO THE SITUATION BECAUSE I WAS PUZZLED AND QUICKLY LEARNED OF THE MASSIVE NUMBER OF NISSAN OWNERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. SADLY, I WAS NOW ONE OF THOSE VICTIMS. YES, THE COOLANT HAD CONTAMINATED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID VIA THE FAULTY TRANSMISSION COOLER. THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT THAT I AM SURE YOU ARE AWARE OF BUT I WAS UNAWARE OF. I DO NOT RECALL ANY CONTACT NOTIFYING ME OF A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AND THE POTENTIAL DAMAGE. I HAD NO REASON FOR WORRY BECAUSE MY VEHICLE HAD NOT GIVEN ME ANY TROUBLE SIGNS AND THE FLUIDS HAVE ALWAYS CHECKED NORMAL DURING NORMAL SERVICE CHECKS. LIKE MANY, I CANNOT AFFORD TO SHELL OUT THE DOLLARS THAT THIS NEGLIGENCE ON NISSAN CORPORATION BEHALF HAS CAUSED. I ENCOURAGE YOU TO PLEASE FORCE NISSAN CORPORATION TO ISSUE A RECALL REQUIRING THEM TO MAKE ALL THE APPROPRIATE REPAIRS FOR THESE DAMAGES. PLEASE, DO NOT PUT A CAP ON THE MILEAGE OR SET THE MILEAGE RELATIVELY HIGH IF YOU MUST. MY VEHICLE HAS ONLY 89,000 MILES AND ONLY GAVE SIGNS OF DAMAGE LESS THAN 500 MILES AGO. *TR
SUDDEN LOUD NOISES/BANGING WHILE DRIVING. PULLED OVER, HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO MECHANIC. RADIATOR FOUND TO BE CRACKED. RADIATOR FLUID LEAKED INTO AND CONTAMINATED TRANSMISSION CAUSING SUDDEN TRANSMISSION FAILURE. LEARNED NISSAN WAS/IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND HAS NOT NOTIFIED ANYONE OF PREVENTATIVE MEASURES TO PREVENT FAILURE OF TRANSMISSION. "EXTENDED WARRANTY" RESULTING FROM CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT REQUIRES $3000 COPY FOR VEHICLES WITH 90,000-100,000 MILES. MY MECHANIC SAYS THIS IS A JOKE BECAUSE RADIATORS NOT CRACKING UNTIL AT LEAST THIS TIME. NOW I HAVE TO PAY $3000 I DON'T HAVE TO REPAIR THE TRANSMISSION WHICH I COULD HAVE SAVED HAD I BEEN NOTIFIED TO REPLACE THE RADIATOR. I WILL NOT EVER PURCHASE A NISSAN AGAIN. *TR
RADIATOR LEAKED INTO TRANSMISSION JUST AFTER 100,000 MILES. SO WHY DIDN'T NISSAN TELL US THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN? *TR
There is usual rust on body of truck. There is some kind of electrical problem rather it’s the security system or wiring. There’s a clicking sound coming from dash area. There is a suspension problem, has to change leaf springs, struts and shocks often.
MY CAR WAS JARRING AND MAKING A RUMBLING NOISE SO I TOOK IT IN TO GET FIXED. THERE WAS WATER DETECTED IN MY TRANSMISSION SO I HAD IT FLUSHED TWICE. THE RUMBLING CONTINUED SO THEY REPLACED THE RADIATOR. THAT COST A TOTAL OF ABOUT $1,000. A FEW WEEKS LATER IT GOT WORSE AND THEY TOLD ME I NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION. THAT WILL BE BETWEEN $4500-$5000. NISSAN HAS BEEN UNDER INVESTIGATION REGARDING COOLANT MIXING IN THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND HAVE NOT DONE ANYTHING TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THERE TO BE A RECALL! *TR
THE RADIATOR LEAKED AND THE COOLANT WENT INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND NOW HAS TOTALLY SCREWED UP THE TRANSMISSION TO THE POINT OF HAVING TO REPLACE IT AND THE RADIATOR. NISSAN KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND WILL NOT MAKE A RECALL ON EITHER PARTS WHICH IS COMPLETELY WRONG. *TR

MY WIFE REFUELED HER VEHICLE AND THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT CAME ON. THE GAS GAUGE THEN WENT FROM FULL TO ZERO AND LOW FUEL LIGHT CAME ON. SOON AFTER, THE TMPS SENSOR ALSO WENT OUT. I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE THE GAS CAP BEING LOSE, BUT IT WASN'T. THE GAS GAUGE WILL FLUCTUATE BETWEEN EMPTY AND FULL. THIS IS MY WIFE'S CAR AND IT IS A HAZARD TO BE DRIVEN ON THE ROAD, ESPECIALLY IF SHE RUNS OUT OF GAS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2007 NISSAN XTERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST PERFORMED. THE FAILURE WAS LOCATED IN THE TRANSMISSION WHERE THE RADIATOR FLUID WAS MIXED WITH THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. THE TRANSMISSION AND THE RADIATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE VEHICLE EXCEEDED THE 100,000 MILES WARRANTY REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 102,000.

MY RADIATOR WENT OUT IN THE STARBUCKS DRIVE-THRU. I HAD IT TOWED TO A SHOP & WAS TOLD IT IS A KNOWN DESIGN FLAW BY NISSAN WHERE THE FLUIDS ARE MIXING & THE ONLY THING I CAN DO NOW IS REPLACE THE RADIATOR & "HOPE" THE FLUIDS DID NOT GO INTO THE TRANSMISSION. I TOOK MY NISSAN XTERRA 2007 INTO BOULDER NISSAN IN OCTOBER 2013. AT THE TIME, IT HAD UNDER 100,000 MILES. UPON EXAMINATION OF THE CAR FOR LACK OF HEAT, THEY SAID THEY FLUSHED IT AND EVENTUALLY I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE RADIATOR. THEY DID NOT TELL ME THAT THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST NISSAN FOR DEFECTIVE PARTS LEAKING COOLANT INTO THE TRANSMISSION. I RETURNED TO NISSAN IN JAN. 2015 FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AND WAS HIT WITH A BILL FOR $5,200 TO REPLACE THE RADIATOR, TRANSMISSION, TIMING CHAIN AND THERMOSTAT. *TR

NISSAN SENT A WARRANTY NOTIFICATION LETTER THAT THE RADIATOR COULD CRACK AND LEAK INTO THE TRANSMISSION. THE LETTER STATED THE WARRANTY RAN OUT AT 80K MILES. THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE THE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION UNTIL THERE WAS AN ACTUAL PROBLEM. I DIDN'T START HAVING PROBLEMS UNTIL ABOUT 96K MILES. WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN TO THE DEALER, I WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST ME $3000 MY PART TO FIX IT AND THEY WOULD COVER THE REST. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO AFFORD TO MAKE THE REPAIR AT THIS TIME. NISSAN KNEW THE PART WAS BAD AND STILL DID NOTHING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *TR
THE AIRBAG LITE BEGAN FLASHING ON THE DASHBOARD. TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE ONLY FIX ACTION WAS TO BEGIN REPLACING PARTS THAT NISSAN RECOMMENDED UNTIL IT WAS FIXED. NO EXACT FIX WAS GIVEN ONLY THE FOLLOWING: VISUALLY CHECK WIRING HARNESS FOR CONNECTION AND DAMAGE. ALL OK. NEXT STEP IN PROCEDURE IS TO REPLACE DRIVER'S AIRBAG MODULE. SUBSEQUENT PROCEDURES ARE TO REPLACE SPIRAL CABLE, THEN DIAGNOSTIC UNIT, AND RELATED HARNESS. THESE ARE ALL COSTLY STEPS AND THE PARTS BEING REPLACED MAY NOT BE BAD. THE DEALERSHIP COULDN'T DETERMINE EXACTLY WHICH PORTION WAS FAILING. IN CONCLUSION: THE FIX ACTION WAS BEING REPLACING PARTS (EXTREMELY COSTLY) UNTIL THE PROBLEM IS FIXED. MY 2007 NISSAN XTERRA STARTED HAVING BOTH TRANSMISSION AND COOLING SYSTEM ISSUES BACK IN SEPTEMBER 2014. AFTER A FEW TRIPS TO OUR MECHANIC IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD A CRACKED RADIATOR AND WAS ALLOWING BOTH COOLANT INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND TRANSMISSION FLUID INTO THE COOLING THE SYSTEM. APPARENTLY THIS IS A WELL KNOWN ISSUE AND THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST NISSAN, HOWEVER THE TERMS OF THE SETTLEMENT ONLY COVER VEHICLES UNDER 100K MILES. BY THE TIME WE FOUND OUT THE VEHICLE HAD JUST PASSED 100K (106K) AND NOW NISSAN REFUSED TO COVER IT! I'M NOW LOOKING AT A $5K - $6K REPAIR BILL AND NISSAN REFUSED TO BUDGE. *TR
I HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM DESCRIBED IN YOUR CURRENT INVESTIGATION OF THESE MODELS. AN ATF LINE EMBEDDED IN THE RADIATOR CRACKED, AND ATF FLUID WAS ALLOWED INTO THE COOLANT, AND COOLANT WAS FORCED INTO THE ATF. THE CARD STARTED SLIPPING IN GEAR, THEN IT STARTED SHUDDERING UNDER ACCELERATION, THEN IT STARTED REFUSING TO GO INTO GEAR. I GOT IT TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP, AND WHEN THEY OPENED IT UP, THE GUTS OF THE TRANSMISSION WERE RUSTED, AND THE CLUTCHES HAD DE-LAMINATED. THE COOLING SYSTEM WAS NEARLY PLUGGED UP WITH OILY TRANSMISSION RESIDUE. THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE COMPLETELY REBUILT, AND THE RADIATOR AND ALL ASSOCIATED HOSES HAD TO BE REPLACED. ALL IN ALL, A $5500 FIX FOR A PROBLEM THAT SHOULDN'T HAVE HAPPENED. *TR

RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION FAILED AGAIN. THE WAY THE WARRANTY IS PRICED, I AM PAYING THE FULL COST OF REPAIR. ALTHOUGH I WAS ABLE TO IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM WITHOUT RISK, WHEN THE TRANSMISSION FAILS IT IS CATASTROPHIC FAILURE WHICH COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. *JS

WITNESSED LOUD WHINE FROM ENGINE THAT INCREASES DUE TO ACCELERATION. WAS TOLD BY DEALER THAT IT WAS DUE TO FAILED TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER AND COULD EVENTUALLY CAUSE COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE WITHOUT NOTICE. REPAIRS WOULD COST $1500.00 TO $2000.00. *TR
ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 2, 2013, APPROXIMATELY 5:40PM, THE CAR STARTED TO HAVE DIFFICULTY SHIFTING (AUTOMATIC), SPEED BECAME ERRATIC, SLOWED RAPIDLY. I WAS ON A SERVICE ROAD NEXT TO A FREEWAY DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC IN A BUSY AREA OF SCOTTSDALE. I WAS NEAR PINNACLE NISSAN AND DECIDED TO DRIVE THERE. I HAD A COUPLE VERY BUSY INTERSECTIONS TO GO THROUGH TO DRIVE THE 1 MI TO PINNACLE. THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE MORE THAN 10 MILES AN HOUR AND WAS NOT SHIFTING OUT OF LOW GEAR. I WAS VERY CONCERNED I WOULD STALL OR THE CAR WOULD CEASE DRIVING IN THESE INTERSECTIONS. PINNACLE NISSAN SERVICE DIAGNOSED THE ISSUE (8/3/13) AS A CRACKED RADIATOR COOLING TUBE THAT CAUSED COOLANT TO MIX WITH TRANSMISSION FLUID RUINING COMPONENTS IN THE TRANSMISSION. A COMPLETE NEW TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR IS REQUIRED TO FIX THIS NOW. THIS ISSUE IS NOT RELATED TO ABUSIVE DRIVING, I DO VERY LITTLE OFF ROAD AND NO TOWING, AND IS NOT A LACK OF OR IMPROPER MAINTENANCE. THIS IS A KNOW DESIGN FLAW BY NISSAN. IT APPEARS THERE IS A HIGH NUMBER OF NISSAN PROBLEM SUV'S, 2005 TO 2010, THAT EXPERIENCE THIS SAME PROBLEM AFTER ROUGHLY 80,000 MILES. BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE, THIS IS A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SAFETY ISSUE ESPECIALLY IF SOMEONE WOULD BE DRIVING AT HIGHER SPEEDS ON A BUSY FREEWAY. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR AND IT SHIFTED INTO 4 WHEEL DRIVE AT A RED LIGHT WITH NO PROMPTING. THE CAR THEN WAS IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND TURNED OFF. I HAVE RESEARCHED AND FOUND MANY OTHER HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE FUEL SENSOR ON 2007 XTERRA. LAST GEN WAS RECALLED AND THEY NEED TO RECALL THIS YEAR. I HAVE RAN OUT OF GAS TWICE ALREADY WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. I AM ALSO HAVING A LOUD WINING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE DUE TO A FAILED TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER. BOTH THESE ITEMS NEED TO BE RECALLED BEFORE SOMEBODY GETS KILLED. *TR
I HAD NOTICED THAT THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE WOULD BOUNCE UP AND DOWN AND WHEN I WENT TO CHECK THE ANTIFREEZE IT WAS FULL OF PURPLE GOOP. I WAS TOLD THE COOLANT AND TRANSMISSION HAVE BEEN COMPROMISED. I TOOK VERY GOOD CARE OF THIS CARE WITH OIL CHANGE, ALL FLUID CHANGES AS WELL. I CAN'T NOT AFFORD TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM FIXED. THE SUV HAS BEEN PARKED SINCE THEN AND THAT WAS OVER 3 YEARS AGO. HOWEVER, I WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR COULD BE AT THE DEALERSHIP APPROXIMATELY 6 MONTHS OR LONGER BECAUSE THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER. THE PART COULD NOT BE FOUND ANYWHERE IN THE STATE OF FLORIDA OR IN THE UNITED STATES. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPT THAT THE PART NEEDED TO BE REPRODUCE. I INQUIRED IF THIS PART WAS A DEFLECT ISSUE OR A NATIONAL CAMPAIGN FOR DEFLECTED CAR PARTS, AND WAS TOLD NO. I PAID APPROXIMATELY 1800 DOLLARS FOR THE REPAIR BILL. WHILE MY CAR WAS IN THE SHOP, I RECEIVED A LETTER THAT EXPLAINED THE COOLANT FLUID IN THE RADIATOR CAN BECOME CONTAMINATED WITH THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND CAUSE THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE. I WAS HAVING A ISSUE WITH MY TRANSMISSION; HOWEVER, AFTER THE CAR WAS REPAIRED I REQUESTED THAT SOMEONE FROM THE SERVICE DEPT TEST DRIVE THE CAR AND INDEED THEY DRIVE IT AND STATED THEY HEARD NOTHING. LATER, I REQUESTED IT BE DRIVEN BY A MECHANIC; THEREFORE WE WENT FOR A DRIVE AND INDEED I WAS TOLD IT WAS TRANSMISSION PROBLEM, BUT IT WILL COST ME 7500 DOLLARS FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT HONORING ANY LETTER I RECEIVED ACCORDING TO THE OWNERS OF KRAFT AFTER SHOWING THE LETTER AS PROOF. AS OF TODAY, I WAS TOLD THE COMPUTER /BRAIN WAS A DEFECTED PART AND NISSAN SHOULD HAVE REPLACED THE DEFLECTED PART ALONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION; TODAY MY CAR IS AT NISSAN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND STILL TO THIS DATE I AM BEING TOLD THAT THEY ARE NOT AWARE OF ANY NATIONAL CAMPAIGN FOR THE TRANSMISSION ISSUES I AM HAVING EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE CONFIRMED TODAY THAT THE FLUIDS ARE CONTAMINATED. EARLIER LAST WEEK, I WENT TO SOUTHERN CAL TO TAKE CARE OF SOME BUSINESS. UPON RETURNING HOME, I WAS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND TRAVELING BETW SPEEDS OF 35-40 MPH. WHEN TRAFFIC SPEED INCREASED, I TRIED TO ACCELERATE BUT HAD DIFFICULTY. WHEN I STEPPED ON THE GAS PEDAL, THE RMP??S INCREASED BUT MY SPEED WOULD NOT. UPON RETURNING HOME I NOTICED THAT I HAD A LIGHT OILY FILM ON MY BACK WINDOW. DURING THE TRIP NO WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. ON JULY 5TH THAT ??SERVICE ENGINE SOON?? LIGHT CAME ON. I CALLED FOR AN APPT AND ONE WAS SCHEDULED FOR ME JULY 6TH. I TOLD THE DEALERSHIP REP. WHAT I HAD EXPERIENCED EARLIER IN THE WEEK AND WHAT I WAS STILL EXPERIENCING. THE REP MADE STATEMENT ABOUT LEAKY TRANSMISSION FLUID AND HE TOOK MY CAR FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. A FEW HOURS LATER, THE REP CALLED TO INFORM ME THAT MY RADIATOR FAILED. HE THEN STATED THAT AS A RESULT OF MY RADIATOR FAILING THAT THE RADIATOR FLUID MIXED WITH THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. AS A RESULT, I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE BOTH THE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION COSTING APPROXIMATELY $6800. HOW CAN THIS BE SINCE I GET MY CAR SERVICED REGULARLY? THIS DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR ON MY VEHICLE. THROUGH NO FAULT OF MY OWN, I BELIEVE THAT THIS ENGINEERING / MANUFACTURING DEFECT WHERE OVER TIME IT ALLOWS FLUIDS TO MIX FROM ONE CHAMBER INTO THE OTHER. I TRULY BELIEVE THAT SINCE THIS IS AN INHERENT PROBLEM WITH 3 GENERATIONS ON THREE SEPARATE MODELS OF NISSAN CARS, THAT IT SHOULD BE A RECALLED ITEM.
