TOP OF FUEL PUMPS OUT TAKE GETS A HAIRLINE CRACK ALLOWING FUEL TO LEAK ON TOP OF GAS TANK AND NOT BE VISIBLE. CREATES A STRONG ODOR AND FIRE HAZARD. IF LOOKED UP ONLINE THIS COMPLAINT IS VERY COMMON AND LATER MODELS WARRANTED A RECALL. THE 2005-6 SHOULD ALSO BE INCLUDED BUT HAVEN'T BEEN DUE TO AGE AND LABOR INVOLVED TO DROP THE GAS TANK DUE TO NEWER MODELS HAVING EASIER ACCESS TO THE PUMP WITHOUT DROPPING THE TANK.

MY CAR IS SMELLING LIKE GAS I HAVE A LEAK AND IM THINKING ITS THE FUEL PUMP LEAKING. MY SON IS A CERTIFIED MECHANIC AND HE LOOKED AT MY CAR. HE IS THE ONE WHO ALSO SAID THAT IS PROBABLY THE FUEL PUMP.THERE WERE RECALLS ON 2006 AND UP IN YEARS ON THE FUEL PUMP. I HAVE ONE A YEAR 2005 . I THINK THEY NEED TO CHECK ON THE 2005S FOR THIS PROBLEM.

AFTER READING NUMEROUS OF ONLINE COMPLAINTS ABOUT GAS SMELL COMING FROM 05 PONTIAC G6. CAR HAS STRONG FUMES COMING INSIDE CABIN AND OUTSIDE CARE WHEN CAR IS EITHER IN MOTION OR PARKED NOT RUNNING. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE IS A RECALL BEFORE I TAKE CAR TO DEALERSHIP OR LOCAL MECHANIC TO BE LOOKED AT.
TOOK MY CAR TO THE GMC. DEALER TO GET RECALLS FIXED. THEY ALSO NOTICED STRONG GAS ODOR. INSPECTION STATED I HAD A GAS LEAK AT THE TOP OF MY TANK AND IT WAS DANGEROUS BUT NO RECALL ON THIS SO ALMOST 300$LABOR +PARTS... I CALLED GMC AND THEY SAID MY CAR HAD TOO MANY MILES. I FIRST NOTICED THE SMELL OF GASOLINE WHEN THE CAR WAS PARKED. IF IT WAS PARKED ON A SLIGHT INCLINE, THERE WAS A PUDDLE OF GAS ON THE DRIVEWAY. BECAUSE I SAW ONLINE THAT MANY OTHERS WERE HAVING A SIMILAR PROBLEM, I CHECKED TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL...BUT THERE WASN'T. I FINALLY HAD THE FUEL PUMP REPLACED BECAUSE I WAS AFRAID OF A FIRE. THE TECHNICIAN VERIFIED THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS LEAKING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 137,000.
ON SEPTEMBER 2014, I PURCHASED A 2005 PONTIAC G6 WITH ABOUT 182,000 MILES FOR THE PURPOSES OF DRIVING ME TO WORK. I WAS NOT AWARE OR MADE AWARE OF A STRONG FUEL SMELL EMITTING FROM OUTSIDE AND INSIDE THE CAR AT LOW OR HIGH SPEEDS. I DROVE THE CAR TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION A FEW DAYS LATER. I WAS LATER ADVISED THAT A FUEL PUMP CONNECTOR WAS POSSIBLY CRACKED AND LEAKING GASOLINE ABOVE THE GAS TANK. MY MECHANIC ALSO ADVISED ME NOT TO DRIVE MY CAR ANY FURTHER SINCE IT POSED A FIRE DANGER. IN ADDITION, GM RECALLED THE 2007-2009 PONTIAC G6 VEHICLES FOR THE SAME ISSUE BUT NOT FOR THE 2005-6 PONTIAC G6 CARS. MY CAR CURRENTLY HAS TWO RECALLS WHICH MY LOCAL GM DEALERSHIP WILL FIX IN THE UPCOMING WEEK. MANY CUSTOMERS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE AND NO RECALL HAS BEEN MADE TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM. FOR SEVERAL MONTHS NOW MY 2005 G6 HESITATES AND JERKS SIGNIFICANTLY WHEN I PUSH DOWN ON THE GAS PEDAL FROM A STOPPED POSITION. FROM 0-10 MPH THE CAR TAKES A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF TIME TO GAIN ENOUGH POWER TO MOVE FORWARD FOR THE LEVEL OF DEPRESSION APPLIED TO THE GAS PEDAL. I'VE TAKEN THE CAR TO SEVERAL MECHANICS, INCLUDING A GM DEALER. NOT A SINGLE MECHANIC INCLUDING GM CAN FIGURE OUT WHAT THE ISSUE IS. I CALLED GM TO PLACE A COMPLAINT, AND I STUPIDLY THOUGHT WITH ALL THE GM ISSUES AND LAW SUITS GOING ON NOW POSSIBLY THEIR ASSISTANCE AS 1) THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. 2) MY CAR ONLY HAS A LITTLE OVER 63K IN MILEAGE. I EXPLAINED TO GM THAT I CANNOT AT THIS TIME SAFELY ACCELERATE ONTO A BUSY HIGHWAY, GO THROUGH AN INTERSECTION, OR ACCELERATE QUICKLY SHOULD I GOD FORBID HAVE TO. TOLD THEM THAT'S STUPID,4 MECHANICS INCLUDING A DEALER COULD NOT LOCATE ISSUE. LIKE MY STEERING ISSUE (BEFORE THE RECENT RECALL) GM BASICALLY TOLD ME TO DROP DEAD. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
FRIDAY SHORTLY AFTER RETURNING HOME FROM WORK AND PARKING MY CAR IN THE GARAGE, I WALKED OUTSIDE TO RETRIEVE SOMETHING FROM THE GARAGE AND UPON OPENING THE GARAGE DOOR, I NEARLY FELL OVER FROM THE GASOLINE FUMES THAT I ENCOUNTERED. MY ENTIRE GARAGE WAS FILLED WITH THE VAPORS OF GASOLINE. I WAS VERY CONCERNED BUT DID NOT SEE ANY LEAKS AROUND MY CAR. I DID NOT DARE ATTEMPT TO START THE VEHICLE FOR FEAR OF FIRE. I DID NOT DRIVE MY CAR ALL WEEKEND. MONDAY MORNING I TOOK THE CAR TO A MECHANIC AND HE DISCOVERED THE FUEL ASSEMBLY UNIT HAD A LEAK NEAR THE FUEL ARM MECHANISM LEADING TO THE ENGINE. THIS REQUIRED REPLACING THE ENTIRE FUEL ASSEMBLY UNIT. THE PLASTIC PIECE SHOULD SHOW NO SIGNS OF WEAR AND TEAR SINCE IT IS ENCASED WITHIN THE FUEL ASSEMBLY UNIT. THIS IS CLEARLY A FLAWED DESIGN AND IT SHOULD BE RECALLED. IT IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION TO HAVE A FUEL LEAK AND HAD I BEEN PARKED AT MY OFFICE IN THE UNDERGROUND PARKING STRUCTURE, A LIGHTED MATCH OR CIGARETTE WOULD HAVE BEEN DISASTROUS. THIS DEFECTIVE FUEL ASSEMBLY MUST BE RECALLED AS IT POSES A GREAT SAFETY RISK TO PERSONS AND PROPERTY. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT NEVER CAME ON NOR DID ANY OTHER WARNING MESSAGE ALERT ME TO THE POTENTIAL DANGER THIS DEFECT CAUSED. *TR
DETERIORATED/CRACKED ELBOW ON FUEL MODULE ASSEMBLY CAUSED FUEL TO POOL ON TOP OF THE FUEL TANK. SEVERE FUEL VAPOR SMELL NOTICEABLE IN ENCLOSED GARAGE, WHICH COULD HAVE BEEN IGNITED BY GAS WATER HEATER. FUEL ALSO COULD HAVE IGNITED WHILE DRIVING, IF IT HAD COME IN CONTACT WITH THE MUFFLER.
