WHILE DRIVING AND MOST OF THE TIME AFTER STOPPING AND STARTING AGAIN OR WHEN I VERY FIRST START MY CAR THE POWER STEERING SHOWS IN MY INFORMATION CENTER AND I HAVE A VERY HARD TIME CONTROLLING MY CAR. MY CAR HAS 80,476 MILES ON IT. *TR
NO INJURIES HAVE OCCURRED YET BUT MY 2006 PONTIAC G6 4 DOOR SEDAN HAS A CLUNK IN THE STEERING WHEN TURNING LEFT AND TIME TO TIME THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT. IF I WAS DRIVING AT A FAIRLY HIGH SPEED THIS COULD RESULT IN A HORRIBLE ACCIDENT. I HAVE YET TO GET IT CHECKED BECAUSE IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND FROM WHAT I READ WILL BE VERY EXPENSIVE TO FIX BUT IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH MANY 2006 PONTIAC G6 VEHICLES. *TR

IF YOU TURN THE VEHICLE LEFT THE STEERING IS VERY TOUCHY AND TURN TO THE RIGHT AND IT IS LIKE YOU HAVE NO POWER STEERING. THE CAR TURNS TO THE LEFT WHILE YOU ARE SITTING AT STOP LIGHTS OR JUST NOT MOVING. THE CAR IS VERY UNSAFE AND NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. [XXX] *TR
I HAVE A '06 G6 GTP SEDAN, AND MY SON HAS A '06 G6 GTP COUPE. WE HAVE BOTH EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS AS DESCRIBED BY OTHERS-CLUNKING ,CLINKING AT PARKING SPEED. 2006 PONTIAC G6 POWER STEERING FAILURE HAS OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. TWICE WHILE I WAS IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC TAKING MY KIDS TO SCHOOL AND OCCURRED AS I WAS TURNING AND WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. EVEN WITH MY TEENAGE SON AND I WE COULD BARELY GET THE CAR TURNED AND OUT OF THE INTERSECTION. I TOOK THE CAR TO A GM DEALER AND THEY SAID MY POWER STEERING MOTOR HAD GONE OUT AND AFTER ALMOST $800 HAD IT REPLACED. THE DEALER KEPT THE FAULTY PART. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT PONTIAC HAD ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY HOWEVER IT ONLY WENT THROUGH 70,000 MILES AND AT THE TIME OF MY SERVICE I HAD 70,107 MILES AND IT COULD NOT BE FIXED UNDER THE WARRANT. SINCE THAT REPAIR I STILL EXPERIENCE THE SAME PROBLEMS USUALLY WHEN IT IS COLD OUTSIDE AND WHEN MAKING LEFT TURNS. IF YOU ARE ABLE TO PULL OVER AND TURN THE CAR OFF AND THEN RESTART THE POWER STEERING USUALLY RETURNS HOWEVER THERE ARE MANY TIMES IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO PULL OVER AND OUT OF TRAFFIC. WITH THE RECALL ON THE PONTIAC G5 IT SEEMS GM KNOWS OF A POWER STEERING PROBLEM AND THE G6 SHOULD BE INCLUDED ALSO. *TR
WE HAVE A 2006 PONTIAC G6 AND ARE HAVING MAJOR ISSUES WITH THE POWER STEERING GOING OUT RANDOMLY. THIS GENERALLY OCCURS AT LOW SPEEDS AND PARTICULARLY IN REVERSE TRYING TO BACK OUT OF PARKING SPACES. I KNOW THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND HOPE TO HAVE A RECALL ISSUED TO ADDRESS THIS BEFORE THE POWER STEERING BEGINS TO CUT OUT AT HIGH SPEEDS. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 PONTIAC G6, SE1 WITH A V^ ENGINE. THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING COLUMN SHAFT WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY AT ABOUT 30,000 MILES. IT STARTED ACTING UP AGAIN AT 50,000 MILES. COME TO FIND OUT WHEN THEY REPLACED IT ORIGINALLY, IT WAS REPLACED BY A DEFECTIVE PART. BETWEEN THE 2 MILEAGE AMOUNTS, GM RE-ENGINEERED THE SHAFT. GM WOULD NOT REPLACE THE PART, THEY SAID IT WAS MY PROBLEM, THAT I HAD TO PAY FOR IT. NOW AT 64,000 MILES, MY POWER STEERING MOTOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $600.00. SEEMS THEY HAVE A PROBLEM, BUT DON'T WANT TO STAND BEHIND THERE PRODUCT, UNLIKE TOYOTA. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT A LOCAL DEALER SAID THEY HAVE A RECALL GOING ON NOW FOR A CHEVY COBALT WITH THE SIMILAR PROBLEM. GM NEEDS TO STAND UP AND TAKE CARE OF THIS PROBLEM WITH THERE PONTIACS. I'VE READ HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ON LINE, SOME HAVING STEERING WHEEL LOCK UP AT HIGH SPEEDS, AND ACCELERATION. THIS MUST NOT END IN TRAGEDY FOR ANYONE. *TR
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HER 2006 G6 PONTIAC HOME ONE WEEK AGO. WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 65 MILES PER HOUR DOWN THE HIGHWAY, THE CAR GAVE 3 CHIMES AND THEN NOT A SECOND LATER THE POWER STEERING ALL AT ONCE QUIT, DRAGGING HER OFF THE SHOULDER I WAS FOLLOWING HER HOME AND WE TRADED CARS. I OWN A 1989 JEEP WITH 33INCH TIRES AND MANUAL STEERING, AND THE PONTIAC STEERING WAS ABOUT TWICE AS HARD FOR ME TO STEER AS THE JEEP IS!! WE ARE VERY LUCKY SHE RETAINED CONTROL OF THAT CAR!!! THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN UNDER INVESTIGATION FOR SOME TIME AND NOW G.M. DECIDED TO DO A RECALL ON SOME OF THESE UNITS. WHEN IS THE NHTSA GOING TO DO SOMETHING?? I JUST GOT THE CAR BACK FROM THE SHOP WHERE THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN\STEERING MOTOR HAD TO BE REPLACED. IT COST $700 AND COULD OF COST ME MUCH MORE. THIS IS OUR THIRD PONTIAC, ALL HAD BIG ISSUES AND THE CAR COMPANY DID NOTHING TO ADDRESS THEM. NO MORE G.M. CARS FOR US..... *TR
I OWN A 2006 PONTIAC G6 (4 CYLINDER). I HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING GOING OUT ON THE CAR. THIS USUALLY HAPPENS WHEN TURNING ON CAR, IT WOULD HAVE WARNING CHIME AND THE COMPUTER SYSTEM WILL INDICATE THAT THERE IS A POWER STEERING ON THE DIGITAL DASH DISPLAY. THEN I CAN FEEL THE STEERING GO OUT. I CAN SHUT THE CAR OFF AND IT WILL SOMETIMES RESET THE STEERING. OTHER TIMES I MAY DRIVE WITHOUT POWER STEERING AND THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD SHAKE AND JERK EVEN WHEN PARK OR DRIVING. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP TO GET REPAIRED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN ACCELERATING, THE BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE INTERMITTENTLY CAUSING FOLLOWING VEHICLES TO BELIEVE HE WAS BRAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE DEALER AND THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO APPLY A SPECIAL LUBRICANT TO THE LIGHTS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO CONTACTED BUT PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 85,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. UPDATED 3/28/11 *CN UPDATED 05/13/11
THE POWER STEERING WOULD JUST GO OUT ON ME. I WOULD LOSE THE ABILITY TO TURN EASILY. I COULD STILL DO IT, IT WAS JUST VERY HARD. THE POWER STEERING WARNING WOULD POP UP ON MY RADIO AND WITH A DINGING SOUND AS SOON AS THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. IF I TURNED MY CAR OFF THEN BACK ON, IT WOULD RESET ITSELF AND I COULD STEER AGAIN. AFTER A COUPLE OF MONTHS OF THAT, IT FINALLY GOT TO THE POINT WHERE EVEN IF I TURNED MY CAR OFF TO RESET IT, IT WOULD GO OUT AGAIN IMMEDIATELY. I HAD TO TAKE IT TO A DEALERSHIP TO GET THE WHOLE STEERING COLUMN REPLACED. THAT COST ME $750.10. *TR
2006 PONTIAC G6 SUCKS. THE STEERING POPS, BRAKE ALWAYS SQUEAK EVENTHOUGH I REPLACED THE ROTORS AND PADS, AND LOSE POWER STEERING. A WEEK OUT OF MY EXTENDED WARRANTY AND THEY WILL NOT COVER IT. THE SAME DEALERSHIP WHERE I BROUGHT 4 OF THE 5 CARS I OWNED. ALL WERE GM MODELS. I STOOD ALONG THAT BRAND UNTIL NOW. I HOPE IT TOTALLY GOES OUT OF BUSINESS. DO SOME ONE HAVE TO DIE BEFORE THIS ISSUE GETS SOLVED. TOYOTA IS FIXING THEIR ISSUE. AMERICAN CARS, SERVICE, AND QUALITY SUCKS. NEVER AGAIN WILL I BUY GM CARS. *TR
POWER STEERING ON 2006 PONTIAC G6. MY G6 HAS A 3.5 LITER ENGINE. I HAVE BEEN NOTICING FOR QUITE SOME TIME NOW THAT IF I WAS ATTEMPTING A TIGHT 3 POINT TURN OR MAKING NORMAL ROUTINE TURNS THAT IT FELT AS IF THE POWER STEERING WAS GOING OUT. I THOUGHT THAT IT MIGHT JUST BE MY IMAGINATION UNTIL THE POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON. I LOOKED AT THE CAR MANUAL AND TO MY DISMAY THERE IS NO WAY TO ADD STEERING FLUID IN MY CAR. I LOOKED UP THE INFORMATION ONLINE TO FIND THAT A LARGE NUMBER OF PEOPLE ARE IN THE EXACT SAME POSITION AS MYSELF. EVERYONE SEEMS TO HAVE THE SAME COMPLAINT AND THE SAME REPAIRS AND BILLS. THIS NEEDS TO BE SOMETHING THAT GM RESOLVES AS IT SEEMS TO BE A HUGE ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THESE MODELS AND AS A CONSUMER NOT ONE THAT I BELIEVE SHOULD BE COMING OUT OF MY POCKET. I SEEM TO BE ONE OF THE LUCKY ONES THAT HASN'T HAD IT GO OUT WHILE DRIVING AT MORE THAN 10 MILES PER HOUR. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE POWERSTEERING MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE MESSAGE CENTER AND MY 2006 PONTIAC G6 LOST ALL POWERSTEERING. LUCKILY MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT THE REMAINDER OF THE WAY AND BACK, NEARLY 60-70 MILES AWAY. DON'T EVEN TRY CHECKING THE FLUID, THERE IS NONE. THE VALET PARKING ATTENDANT AT OUR DESTINATION COULD HARDLY PARK IT OR BRING IT BACK TO US UPON OUR EXIT . I HAD TO TAKE THE G6 TO OUR LOCAL GM DEALER ON FEB. 24 AND IT WAS THERE FOR 3 DAYS AND COST ME WELL OVER $600.00 TO REPAIR. NOW, AFTER LESS THAN A WEEK FROM PICKING IT UP FROM THE SHOP, I SEE THAT GM IS RECALLING SOME OTHER PONTIAC MODELS FOR THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM. I FEEL THAT THE 2006 PONTIAC G6 SHOULD BE INCLUDED. THIS PROBLEM IS VERY DANGEROUS SINCE BEFORE THE COMPLETE FAILURE THE CAR BEGAN GETTING HARD TO CONTROL. WHEN THE POWERSTEERING FAILS IT BECOMES AWFULLY HARD TO STEER THE CAR AT SLOW SPEEDS AND EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO PARK OR TURN ONTO ROADS. WHILE SITTING IDLE AT RED LIGHTS, STOP SIGNS, ETC. THE STEERING WHEEL JUST QUIVERS BACK AND FORTH. PLEASE PLEASE GM RECALL THIS MODEL BEFORE SOMETHING BAD HAPPENS TO SOMEONE. (ESPECIALLY SINCE THERE IS NO WAY TO AVOID THIS SINCE IT CANNOT BE MAINTAINED)... AFTER MY REPAIR, THE CAR DRIVES WONDERFULLY, I JUST HOPE IT LASTS. *TR
POWER STEERING LIGHT COMES ON AND CAR LOOSES POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING. ONCE THE CAR IS TURNED OFF AND THEN BACK ON THE POWER STEERING WILL RESET ITSELF AND YOU CAN DRIVE FURTHER. THIS HAPPENS VERY SPORADICALLY, NOTHING LETS YOU KNOW WHEN IT IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN. DOESN'T MANNER THE TEMP, AMOUNT OF TIME THE CAR HAS BEEN RUNNING, TURNING, DRIVING STRAIGHT, SPEED. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS!!! *TR
THE POWER STEERING ON MY 2006 PONTIAC G6 SEEMS TO FAIL IN COLD WEATHER. WHEN MAKING LOW SPEED TURNS, THE STEERING WHEEL IS EXTREMELY HARD TO TURN. THIS DOES NOT JUST HAPPEN IN LOW-SPEED SITUATIONS, AS THERE ARE TIMES WHEN TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THAT THE CAR SEVERELY PULLS TO ONE SIDE. AT FIRST I THOUGHT THIS MIGHT BE A TIRE OR ALIGNMENT ISSUE, BUT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY TIRES, AS THE AIR PRESSURE IS CORRECT AND THERE IS NO WEAR ON THE TIRES THAT INDICATE AN ALIGNMENT ISSUE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. IN ADDITION, THE BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. ALSO, THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT ENGAGE WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO ACTIVATE THAT FEATURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS, WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE WIRING CONNECTOR CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR REPAIRS. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V036000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS) THAT MAY BE RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
POWER STEERING FAILS AT ALL SPEEDS. IT HAPPENS AT LEAST ONCE A DAY WHEN DRIVING TO WORK AND BACK. 3 HOUR DRIVE NORTH IT WILL HAPPEN 2-3 TIMES EACH WAY. NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER, VERY DANGEROUS ON THE EXPRESSWAY. GM WILL NOT DO A THING ABOUT IT, SO IT'S STILL DEFECTIVE. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE FEBRUARY 2010. *TR

VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A GM DEALER TO HAVE DIAGNOSED THE ELECTRONIC STEERING TO HAVE FAULTED OUT,ESTIMATE @ 1700.00 TO REPAIR. DAUGHTER COULD NOT AFFORD THAT KIND OF MONEY ,SO FAMILY GOT TOGETHER AND WENT OUT AND TOWING VEHICLE HOME. VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED WITH ANOTHER STEERING COLUMN OUT OF A WRECKED VEHICLE BY FAMILY MECHANIC. CONTACTED GOVERNMENT MOTORS TO FIND NO REIMBURSEMENT OF RECALL AT THIS TIME FOR THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE IT WAS NOT REPAIRED AT A GM DEALER. THIS VEHICLE HAS THE SAME KIND OF PROBLEM AND PARTS AS THE G5,WHAT IS IT GOING TO TAKE ? A DEATH AND A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT TO HAVE THEM PULL THERE HEADS OUT!!!! THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ARE GETTING FED UP WITH ALL THIS BUREAUCRATIC BULL. THIS KIND OF INCIDENT WILL NOT GO UNSEEN BY THE CONSUMERS WHO DRIVE THESES VEHICLES,THERE WILL BE A WIDE SPREAD THREAD OUT TO ADVISE PEOPLE OF THE G6 PROBLEM AND REBEL AGAINST GM FOR A SOLUTION. *TR

THEN, 2 DAYS LATER, I GET A DINGING AND THE WORDS "POWER STEERING" SHOWING UP ON MY DIU. I WAS GOING AROUND A CORNER, SO IT WAS DIFFICULT TO TURN. I THEN STARTED DOING MY RESEARCH TO FIND OUT A LOT OF 2006 G6 HAVE THIS PROBLEM. I AM PRETTY SURE I HAVE TO REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN, WHICH WILL COST A LOT OF MONEY. WHICH I DON'T HAVE RIGHT NOW, BEING A COLLEGE STUDENT. *TR

I OWN A PONTIAC G6 2006 ITS THE WORST CAR I HAVE EVER OWNED I HAVE PUT 4000-6000$ IN TO THIS CAR AND STILL CONTINUE TO HAVE PROBLEMS ON A DAILY BASIS FROM THE POWER STEERING CATALYTIC CONVERTERS BRAKES TIRE ROD ENDS WHEEL BEARINGS AND NUMEROUS OTHER PROBLEMS I HAVE PAID MORE ON FIXING THE PROBLEMS ON THE CAR THAN I HAVE PAID ON THE CAR THERE ARE CURRENTLY NO RECALLS TO MY KNOWLEDGE BUT I STRONGLY BELIEVE THE ENTIRE CAR SHOULD BE RECALLED AND GM SHOULD PAY BACK WHAT THE CAR WAS PURCHASED FOR! *TR
IN 2008 I TOOK MY 2006 PONTIAC G6 TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC BECAUSE IT WAS PULLING TO THE LEFT. AFTER TESTING THE ALIGNMENT, I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE ELECTRONIC STEERING. I WAS TOLD BY THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THEIR HAD BEEN NUMEROUS BULLETINS ISSUED AND IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. GM FAILED TO REPAIR MY CAR OF THIS PROMINENT DEFECT AT THEIR EXPENSE. NOW 2 YEARS LATER THE ISSUE HAS GOTTEN TO THE POINT WHERE THE CAR STEERS ON ITS OWN AND WE BARELY WERE ABLE TO GET IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO HAS QUOTED ME $1,753 TO REPAIR THE STEERING COLUMN AND POSITION ASSIST MOTOR. RANDOM, INTERMITTENT FAILURE OF POWER STEERING. STEERING GETS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT WITHOUT WARNING. THIS LOSS OF POWER STEERING HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES SINCE OWNERSHIP, INCLUDING THE POWER STEERING DASHBOARD LIGHT COMING ON INTERMITTENTLY. DEALER HAS NEVER BEEN ABLE TO DUPLICATE CONDITION. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD SHAKE EXCESSIVELY WHEN TRAVELING AT SPEEDS OF 50 MPH OR LESS. THE AIR BAG AND POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED ON THE WARNING PANEL INTERMITTENTLY. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE POWER STEERING COMPONENT. THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT YET BEEN TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC FOR THE AIR BAG. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 88,000.
THE STEERING STARTED TO MAKE A POP/ CLUNKING NOISE. AND OCCASIONALLY THE POWER STEERING ALERT GOES OFF. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR YEARS NOW. AND STILL HAPPENS. I CONTINUALLY HEAR MORE REPORTS OF THIS ISSUE AND CONCERNED NOTHING IS BEING DONE. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL MECHANICS LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE AND NONE KNOWS WHAT EXACTLY WHAT IS WRONG AND WHY IT'S HAPPENING. HE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO HIS RESIDENCE ALTHOUGH THE FAILURE RECURRED. HIS LOCAL MECHANIC CONFIRMED THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND REPAIRED IT. THE DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE ALTHOUGH IT OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 20 TIMES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,700 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 63,571.
PONTIAC G6 STEERING DEFECTIVE. MAKES POPPING SOUND AT LOW SPEEDS. DEVELOPED A SERIOUS SHAKE FELT ALMOST LIKE WHEEL WAS COMING LOOSE ON FRONT END OF CAR. VEHICLE IS A 2006 PONTIAC G6 GT, DRIVING AT ANY SPEED A WARNING MESSAGES COMES ON THE RADIO ABOUT THE POWER STEERING, THEN A CHIME ALERTS YOU LIKE A DOOR CHIME. AFTER WORDS THE POWER STEERING ASSIST GOES OUT AND THE DRIVER LOSES ALL CONTROL TO STEER THE CAR BASICALLY THE CAR IS UNMANAGABLE TO STEER SAFELY. WHEN THE CAR IS ABLE TO BE STEERED IT PULLS HARD TO ONE DIRECTION AND IS VERY SHAKY. THIS HAS OCCURRED 3 TIMES IN THE LAST 2 DAYS RESULTING IN NOT BEING ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE YET TO THE VEHICLE, I HAVE MADE AN APPOINTMENT ON 2/1/2010 FOR SERVICE AT A PONTIAC DEALER. I CALLED GM AND OPENED A CLAIM ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AS WELL. 2006 PONTIAC G6 GT JUNE 1, 2009: AT 19,000 MILES THE POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER - THEY REPLACED THE STEERING COLUMN. JANUARY 22, 2010: AT 35,000 MILES, STEERING COLUMN RATTLES AND CLUNKS. DEALER SAID NEEDS LUBE KIT. WARRANTY IS EXPIRED (IN YEARS, NOT MILES) SO REPAIR ISN'T COVERED. HAVE READ NUMEROUS OTHER PEOPLE WITH SIMILAR PROBLEM - LUBE DOES NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE. FURTHERMORE, IF THE STEERING COLUMN IS ONLY 6 MONTHS OLD, WHY WOULD IT NEED TO BE LUBED ALREADY? THIS IS A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. WHATEVER IS RATTLING AROUND IN THE STEERING COLUMN IS NOT DOING SO FOR LACK OF LUBRICATION! THIS IS A FIRE HAZARD AND LOSS OF STEERING HAZARD THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY GM ASAP. I HAVE EXPERIENCED POWER STEERING FAILURE MULTIPLE TIMES IN MY 2006 PONTIAC G6 WHILE DRIVING ALSO AFTER STARTING THE CAR. I CALL GM TO REPORT THE PROBLEM AND SUGGESTED THAT THEY ISSUE A RECALL, I WAS TOLD TO TAKE MY VEHICLE INTO A PONTIAC DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED. AFTER HAVING MY CAR IN THE REPAIR SHOP FOR A DAY, I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR CODED A PROBLEM WITH THE TORQUE SENSOR; BUT FURTHER TESTING WAS NEEDED TO PINPOINT THE EXACT CAUSE FOR THE POWER STEERING FAILURE. A FEW DAYS LATER I AGAIN RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE SERVICE SPECIALIST SAYING THAT THEY NEEDED TO REPLACE MY STEERING COLUMN. I ASKED IF THAT WAS THE CAUSE FOR THE POWER STEERING FAILURE, AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS. I HAVE YET TO HEAR FROM THE GM DISTRICT SPECIALIST REGARDING MY VEHICLE. WHEN MY WIFE TOLD ME THE CAR LOCKED IT STEERING WHEEL UPON A QUICK TAKE OFF I THEN DROVE THE CAR AGAIN AND ALSO HAD TWO LOCK UPS WITH ME. AFTER THAT HAPPEN TO US WE NEVER REALLY DO ANY FAST TAKEOFFS WITH THE CAR. THIS HAPPEN 3 TIMES IN THE MONTH OF JANUARY. THIS ONLY HAPPENS WITH A TAKEOFF AND ALL THE PANEL LIGHTS ACT LIKE THEY TURN OFF WITH ALL GAUGES DROP IN OFF POSITION, BUT THE CAR STILL RUNNING. IM NOT SURE IF THIS IS PART OF THE DEFECT, BUT FOR THE PAST 9 MONTHS THIS CAR HAS BEEN REAL HARD TO START UP AND NO LIGHTS DISPLAY FOR A CHECK ENGINE.
