JUST THIS PAST WINTER I HAVE HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH THE POWER STEERING ON MY 2006 PONTIAC G6. I HAVE HAD ON 2 OCCASIONS MY CENTER DISPLAY DING WITH A WARNING THAT STATED "POWER STEERING". WHEN I TRY TO TURN MY CAR IT IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. I HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE OTHER PONTIAC VEHICLES THAT ARE UNDER RECALL AND I IMPLORE YOU THAT YOU ALSO ISSUE IT FOR THE PONTIAC G6 AS WELL. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE MY CAR AND THE POWER STEERING MOTOR GIVING OUT. I HAVE READ ON BLOGS ABOUT OTHER G6 OWNERS WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
INTERMITTENT POWER STEERING FAILURE ON 2006 PONT G6. AFTER RESTARTING CAR POWER STEERING RESUMES. *TR
INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT CLUNKING WHEN TURNING LEFT. DID RESEARCH AND ONLY FOUND THAT YOU NEED TO PUT SOME LUBE ON THE STEERING SHAFT RIGHT BELOW THE STEERING WHEEL, I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO DO THIS. TOOK IT TO A DEALERSHIP AND WERE GOING TO CHARGE ME TO COMPLETELY REPLACE THE ENTIRE THING, AND WAS TOLD THAT BY PUTTING ON LUBE, IT IS ONLY GOING TO HIDE/COVER UP THE PROBLEM, NOT FIX IT. IT SHOULDN'T BE HAPPENING AT ALL. PONTIAC NEEDS TO COME UP WITH A FIX FOR THIS BEFORE SOMEBODY GETS HURT. *TR
THE ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST MOTOR FAILED ON MY PONTIAC G6. THERE WAS NO WARNING UNTIL IT WENT OUT, THEN IT WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STEER AND A "POWER STEERING" WARNING WAS DISPLAYED ON RADIO. AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTING IT, IT RESET, ONLY TO HAPPEN AGAIN AND AGAIN. THE STEERING WENT OUT ABOUT TWO DOZEN TIMES IN THE SPAN OF A WEEK BEFORE I COULD MAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. ONE TIME ON THE INTERSTATE I IT HAPPENED AND I ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR WHILE GOING AROUND 60 MPH. I HAD TO HAVE THE ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST MOTOR REPLACED, AND THEN THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN. SO FAR THE FIX HAS WORKED. JUST HOPE GM DOES THE RIGHT THING AND RECALLS ALL FAULTY VEHICLES BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY HURT OR INJURED AS A RESULTS OF LOSS OF STEERING.
I CURRENTLY OWN A PONTIAC G6 2006. I STARTED TO EXPERIENCE DIFFICULTIES WHEN DRIVING IT. ONE DAY MY STEERING WHEEL JUST LOCKUP AND IT WAS WHILE I WAS TRYING TO MAKE A TURN, LUCKY THERE WASN'T TOO MUCH TRAFFIC AND I WAS ABLE TO STAY THERE UNTIL MY CAR WAS TOWED. THAT WAS MY FIRST TIME, THEN IT CONTINUED EVERY NOW AND THEN. THE WHEEL WILL LOCKUP AND I WILL TRY TO TURN OFF THE CAR TO RESET THE COMPUTER BUT IT WILL NOT DO IT. I KEPT ON DRIVING THE CAR SINCE THAT'S MY ONLY MODE OF TRANSPORTATION AND I JUST PRETTY MUCH USE IT TO GO TO WORK. I RECENTLY SAW A RECALL ON PONTIAC G6 BUT FOR 2005. MY CAR IS HAS THE SAME DEFECTS AS THE ONE IN THE RECALL EXCEPT ITS 2006. APPARENTLY THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE WHO OWN PONTIAC CARS WHO ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEMS BUT WE HAVE TO COME OUT OF POCKET TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I AM CURRENTLY PREGNANT AND I FEEL UNSAFE TO DRIVE MY CAR DUE TO NOT KNOWING WHEN IS THIS PROBLEM GOING TO OCCUR AGAIN, BESIDES THE FACT IT IS DANGEROUS FOR ANYONE. *TR
POWER STEERING ON 2006 PONTIAC G6 IS FAULTY. WHEN MAKING A 90 DEGREE TURN, THE POWER STEERING WILL FAIL AND TURN OFF. SINCE IT IS ELECTRIC POWER STEERING, YOU NEED TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE AND RE-START IT TO GET THE POWER STEERING TO RE-ENGAGE. ALSO, WHEN DRIVING THE STEERING FEELS VERY LOOSE WHEN TURNING LEFT AND VERY TIGHT WHEN TURNING RIGHT TO THE POINT THAT IT IS SOMETIMES HARD TO CONTROL WHEN TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY. TO MY KNOWLEDGE, THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH PONTIAC/GM AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO CORRECT IT. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 PONTIAC G6. AT FIRST THE POWER STEERING MESSAGE KEPT FLASHING ACROSS RADIO SCREEN , EVENTUALLY POWER STEERING MECHANISM WENT OUT ALL TOGETHER WHILE DRIVING. POWER STEERING FAILS INTERMITTENTLY, AT ANY TIME. THE ONLY WAY IT RESETS IS WHEN CAR IS TURNED OFF, IF IT RESETS. VEHICLE IS VERY HARD TO STEER. AFTER TALKING WITH DEALERSHIP, FOUND OUT THAT STEERING COLUMN AND POWER STEERING MOTOR WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF ALMOST $2000.00. THIS VEHICLE IS VERY DANGEROUS AND THIS CAR SHOULD BE RECALLED. *TR
I HAVE A G6 AND IT HAS A MAJOR POWER STEERING PROBLEM AND IT HAS GOTTEN TO THE POINT I WONT EVEN DRIVE THE CAR ANYMORE. YOU CAN BE DRIVING AND IT WILL PULL YOU OFF THE ROAD OR INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC I ALMOST WENT INTO THE CREEK AND THAT IS WHEN I PARKED IT. I JUST WONDER HOW MANY PPL HAS TO BE HURT BEFORE THEY RECALL THESE CARS. IM BASICALLY MAKING A PAYMENT ON SOMETHING I CANT EVEN DRIVE. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE SEATBELT SENSOR AND THE IDLE ARM AND I CANT PLUG IN THE CELL PHONE CHARGER BECAUSE IT BLOWS THE FUSES EVERY TIME I DO. AND THERE HAS BEEN TIMES THAT WHEN I WENT TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK I WOULD NOT GO I WOULD HAVE TO TURN OFF THE KEY, RESTART THE CAR AND THEN PUT IT IN PARK. I WOULD ADVISE PPL NOT TO BUY THESE CARS. THEY ARE A HAZARD AND NOT SAFE AT ALL. THEY ARE JUST A MONEY PIT AND AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. *TR
2006 PONTIAC G6 3.5 V-6 52,000 MILES. ELECTRIC POWER STEERING MOTOR SUDDENLY WENT BAD, HARD TO STEER VEHICLE, LOSS OF CONTROL WITHOUT SERIOUS EFFORT. 2005 G6 WERE PROVIDED WITH EXTENDED WARRANT ON THIS ISSUE. STILL A PROBLEM IN 2006 MODEL WITH NO ASSISTANCE FROM GM. HAD A CERTIFIED GM WARRANTY THAT DOES NOT DO ANYTHING IN AREA OF STEERING COVERAGE. SPENT $556.00 OUT OF POCKET TO REPLACE ELECTRIC MOTOR. I COULD NOT DRIVE IT AS IT WAS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH THE POWER STEERING LIGHT FLASHED ON THE DASHBOARD AND THE POWER STEERING MALFUNCTIONED. THE CONTACT HAD TO SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTART IT TO RESET THE POWER STEERING. THE CONTACT HAS NOT TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE COULD HAVE CAUSED A CRASH TO OCCUR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000. UPDATED 04/20/10
A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO I LOST POWER STEERING IN A SNOW STORM WHICH CAUSED MY CAR TO SLIDE SIDEWAYS AND I WAS UNABLE TO STEER OUT OF THE SLIDE BECAUSE I DID NOT HAVE POWER STEERING. MY 2006 PONTIAC G6 HAS THE SAME STEERING PROBLEM THAT IS ON THE RECALL FOR THE G5. AT LOW SPEEDS THE POWER STEERING WILL CUT OUT ON A LEFT TURN AN A WARNING LIGHT WITH FLASH ON MY DISPLAY. THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE FOR MY VEHICLE FOR OVER A YEAR. I COMPLAINED ABOUT IT AT THAT TIME AND WAS DIRECTED TO TAKE MY CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP. I DID A LITTLE RESEARCH AND DISCOVERED THAT THE PREVIOUS YEAR WAS RECALLED FOR THE SAME ISSUE. I WAS TOLD AT THE DEALERSHIP THAT IT WOULD COST ME $1,000 TO FIX THE STEERING ISSUE. I UNFORTUNATELY DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO PAY THIS SO I HAVE HAD TO DEAL WITH THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING SINCE WHICH IS SCARY AS THE WHEEL WILL SNATCH ITSELF OUT OF MY HANDS. LUCKILY I WAS STOPPED BY A CURB. I FIND THIS AS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE AND CAN NOT BELIEVE THAT WHEN I CALLED ABOUT THIS RESENT RECALL I WAS TOLD THAT I JUST HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT MYSELF. THE OTHER ISSUE I WOULD LIKE TO COMMENT ON IS THAT MY CAR SEEMS TO BE PUT TOGETHER WITH OTHER MODEL PARTS. I FOUND OUT THAT MY WIPER BLADE ARE ACTUALLY CAMARO BLADES BECAUSE THEY RAN OUT OF G6 BLADES WHILE MY CAR WAS IN PRODUCTION. SO HOW DO I KNOW IF MY STEERING IS NOT A G5 STEERING COLUMN? AS YOU CAN SEE THIS IS A VERY FRUSTRATING AND DANGEROUS. I JUST WANT THEM TO DO THE RIGHT THING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THE STEERING GOES TO THE LEFT WHENEVER SHE IS DRIVING. THE STEERING CANNOT TURN TO THE RIGHT AND THE STEERING IS VERY HARD TO TURN. THE STEERING COLUMN RATTLES WITH A LOUD NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY REPLACE THE POWER STEERING MOTOR AND INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT IN SEPTEMBER 2007. THIS FAILURE IS HAPPENING AGAIN BUT CONTACT HAVE NOT TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AS YET. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,000. MY 2006 PONTIAC G6 HAS HAD STEERING PROBLEMS SINCE I PURCHASED IT NEW AND NOW THERE IS A MORE SERIOUS ONE THAT OCCURRED AROUND 40K MILES. THE POWER STEERING STOPS WORKING. IT HAS QUIT WHILE IN A PARKING LOT AND MAKING TURNS. I AM SCARED THE PROBLEM IS GOING TO GET WORSE. I DON'T SEEM TO BE THE ONLY ONE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. *TR
I OWN A PONTIAC G6, 2006. I BOUGHT IT A YEAR AND 4 MONTHS AGO. I THOUGHT IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST CARS EVER! LOOKED CUTE, DRIVES REALLY NICE. UNTIL A MONTH AGO WHEN THE DASH WOULD ALERT ME "POWER STEERING". SO, OF COURSE I WENT OUT TO BUY SOME POWER STEERING FLUID , AFTER SEARCHING COUNTLESSLY I THEN FOUND OUT THERE IS NONE. IT IS ALL ELECTRICAL, WHICH IN ALL HONESTLY IS THE STUPIDEST THING I HAVE EVER HEARD. BUT HEY, WHAT A GREAT WAY TO MAKE SOME BIG BUCKS WHEN IT GOES OUT. I WAS BACKING UP ONE NIGHT AFTER WORK, AND MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT. I ENDED UP BACKING INTO A CAR BECAUSE I COULDN'T CONTROL THE STEERING! NOW EVERYDAY, "POWER STEERING" ALERTS ME A COUPLE TIMES WHILE I DRIVE. I JUST WONDER IF ITS GOING TO GO OUT AGAIN. I ALSO WONDER IF IT WILL TAKE SOMEONE'S LIFE. TODAY GM ISSUED A RECALL ON PONTIAC G5'S AND CHEVY COBALTS POWER STEERING COLUMNS, I COULDN'T BELIEVE THEY DID NOT RECALL ONE ON THE G6. I AM TRULY ANGRY ABOUT THIS, AND WITHOUT A DOUBT WILL NEVER BY A CAR FROM GM AGAIN. THANKS :) *TR
2006 PONTIAC G6 FRONT END POPS WHEN TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT. THIS HAPPENED AT 10,000 MILES. THE RACK AND PINION WAS REPLACED AT THE DEALER WHILE THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY, HOWEVER, IT STARTED POPPING AGAIN AT 50,000 AND NOW THERE IS NO LONGER A WARRANTY ON THE VEHICLE. THE POP OR CLUNK HAPPENS EVERY TIME THE CAR IS TURNED AT A LOW SPEED EITHER LEFT OR RIGHT. THE STEERING WHEEL ALSO VIBRATES VERY BAD WHEN HITTING THE BRAKES AT A HIGH SPEED. MESSAGE BOARDS ARE BURNING UP WITH ANGRY PONTIAC G6 OWNERS WHO HAVE FRONT END ISSUES. *TR
THE REAR BRAKE LAMPS ILLUMINATE WITHOUT THE BRAKE PEDAL BEING DEPRESSED. DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL CAUSES THE BRAKE LAMPS TO SHUT OFF COMPLETELY. WHILE THE LAMPS ARE ILLUMINATED, THE CRUISE CONTROL IS NOT ABLE TO BE ENGAGED. THIS ISSUE HAS THE SAME SYMPTOMS AS GM RECALL NO. 80317, BUT MY VIN FALLS OUTSIDE OF THE RECALLED RANGE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH AND MAKING A LEFT OR RIGHT TURN THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE. THE FAILURE BECAME PROGRESSIVELY WORSE OVER TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE RACK AND PINION AND THE PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THEY WOULD PAY 50% OF THE REPAIR COST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 19,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 23,000.
2006 PONTIAC G6 POWER STEERING BECOMES HARD TO TURN. IT IS HARD TO CONTROL AND HAPPENS AT ALMOST ANYTIME. WHAT HAPPENS IF IT LOCKS UP WHILE GOING 65 WITH MY TWO KIDS IN THE CAR. WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED AND GM WOULDN'T FIX IT ANYWAY. ALSO A LOUD CLUNKING NOISE HAS STARTED IN THE FRONT OF THE CAR. *TR
2006 PONTIAC G6, V6 ENGINE. 73,000 MILES. POWER STEERING PROBLEMS. I WAS BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT, A LIGHT CAME ON THE DASH THAT SAID "POWER STEERING". I PULLED BACK INTO THE DRIVEWAY, TURNED OFF MY CAR, RESTARTED IT, THEN IT WORKED. THE NEXT TIME I USED MY CAR I WAS TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY, AT A STOP LIGHT, MY STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO SHAKE, THEN THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT, AGAIN THE LIGHT ON THE DASH SAID "POWER STEERING". I TURNED OFF MY CAR AND RESTARTED IT, IT WAS FINE, I MADE IT TO THE NEXT STOP LIGHT AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED. THIS HAPPENED A TOTAL OF FOUR TIMES BEFORE I MADE IT TO A PEP BOYS AUTO STORE, TURNED OFF MY CAR, LOOKED AT THE DRIVERS MANUAL WHERE IT SHOWED A PICTURE OF THE POWER STEERING CAP AND ANOTHER PICTURE OF WHERE IT WAS LOCATED UNDER THE HOOD. I WENT INSIDE PURCHASED A BOTTLE OF POWER STEERING FLUID, CAME BACK OUT, LIFTED THE HOOD OF MY 2006 PONTIAC G6 AND COULDN'T FIND THE POWER STEERING FLUID RESERVOIR. I ASKED FOR HELP, THE GENTLEMAN WHO HELP ME LOOKED FOR THIS POWER STEERING RESERVOIR, COULDN'T FIND IT AND ADVISED THAT I TAKE IT TO THE DEALER. *TR
BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON WHEN BRAKE NOT DEPRESSED. BRAKE LIGHTS GO OFF WHEN BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. *TR
ON DECEMBER 23, 2009 THE POWER STEERING LIGHT FLASHED ON THE INFORMATION CENTER. NOT LONG AFTER, THE POWER STEERING FAILED TO WORK. THE POWER STEERING FAILED AS WE WERE MAKING A TURN, AND IT CAUSED US TO NEARLY HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. WE PULLED INTO THE NEAREST PARKING LOT, TURNED THE ENGINE OFF, AND THEN RESTARTED THE CAR. WHEN WE RESTARTED THE CAR, THE POWER STEERING BEGAN TO WORK AGAIN; HOWEVER, THE POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON ANOTHER TWO TIMES THAT DAY. SINCE THEN, WE HAVE PARKED OUR VEHICLE, AND HAVE NOT DROVE IT SINCE. WE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET AND HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM, AND SOME OF THOSE COMPLAINTS REPORTED THE POWER STEERING LOSS TO CAUSE ACCIDENTS. IT WOULD BE A SHAME TO HAVE ONE OR MULTIPLE DEATHS OVER THIS ISSUE, AND IT IS A PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE REMEDIED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. UPON RESEARCHING YOUR WEBSITE, WE FOUND A NHTSA ACTION NUMBER PE07023 FOR A DEFECT INVESTIGATION PERTAINING TO THIS PROBLEM DUE TO AN INSUFFICIENT CRIMP IN THE STEERING COLUMN, BUT IT ONLY COVERED THE 2005 MODEL, NOT THE 2006. ABOUT THE BEGINNING OF 2009, THE RACK AND PINION WAS REPLACED, AND LATER A LUBRICATION UNIT WAS ADDED SOON AFTER THAT REPAIR. HOWEVER, SINCE THE POWER STEERING BECAME FAULTY, WE HAVE NOT MADE AN CURRENT REPAIRS. *TR

WHILE DRIVING 2 MPH THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE POWER STEERING LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD AND WITHIN A FEW SECONDS, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED AND THE CONTACT NOTICED PREVIOUSLY THAT THE STEERING WHEEL MADE A SQUEAKING SOUND WHILE MAKING A LEFT OR RIGHT TURN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 62000.
DURING THE LAST 2 DAYS MY POWER STEERING ON MY 2006 PONTIAC G6 HAS HAD INTERMITTENT FAILURE. DURING OPERATION AT MODERATE SPEEDS, (35-45MPH) THE POWER STEERING HAS FAILED. IN EACH EVENT I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO REINTIATE THE POWER STEERING BY TURNING OFF THE IGNITION AND RESTARTING THE CAR. I WILL BE TAKING IT TO BE REPAIRED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, BUT HAVE DOUBTS THAT I WILL BE ABLE TO GET IT FIXED DUE TO THE INTERMITTENT FAILURE.
POWER STEERING LOCKS UP. IT OCCURS ALMOST EVERYTIME I START MY CAR. I HAVE TO RESTART MY CAR MULTIPLE TIMES. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. CAR ONLY HAS 52,000 MILES ON IT. *TR

THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH THE MANUFACTURER WHO ADVISED THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE POWER STEERING FOR THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. I AM HEARING A CLUNKING NOISE FROM THE STEERING AS I AM TURNING. THIS HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP 3 PRIOR TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AND IT KEEPS RETURNING. MY WARRANTY EXPIRED AT 40000 MILES AND I NOW HAVE 56000 MILES. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS IT CONTINUES TO GET LOUDER AND WORSE THE LONGER IT IS LEFT UNREPAIRED. SO FAR ONLY TEMPORARY FIXES HAVE BEEN DONE BY DEALER. I BELIEVE THIS PROBLEM IS THE INTERMEDIARY STEERING SHAFT. I HAVE NONE OF THE PARTS AND THE DEALER HAS MANAGED TO FIX IT 3 DIFFERENT WAYS, PROBABLY TO AVOID A RECALL ISSUE. *TW
THE POWER STEERING IN MY PONTIAC G6 DOES NOT WORK CONSISTENTLY. AFTER I REVERSE OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND THEN TRY TO TURN THE WHEEL IT IS OFTEN VERY TIGHT. THE POWER STEERING LIGHT COMES ON AND THE CAR LOCKS UP COMPLETELY. RESTARTING IT HELPS BUT CONSTANTLY RESTARTING A CAR IN THE MIDDLE OF TURNING IS A SAFETY HAZARD. MORE RECENTLY INSTEAD OF LOCKING UP THE POWER STEERING OF MY CAR HAS BEEN SO LOOSE THAT I FEEL I DO NOT HAVE CONTROL OVER IT. FROM ONE DAY TO THE NEXT I DO NOT KNOW HOW MY CAR WILL HANDLE, AND I AM CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY, ESPECIALLY WITH SNOW COMING. WHEN I BROUGHT THE CAR INTO THE SHOP, I WAS TOLD, "THERE IS ONE OF THREE THINGS WRONG WITH THE STEERING AND TO FIX IT WOULD BE EXPENSIVE. OUR SUGGESTION WOULD BE TO DRIVE IT UNTIL IT GETS EVEN WORSE AND THEN BRING IT BACK TO BE FIXED. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2006, G6'S." I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THIS HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED. WHEN I ARRIVED AT WORK, A PERSON WHO HAD BEEN FOLLOWING ME DROVE UP AND INFORMED ME THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS ON MY 2006 PONTIAC G6 CAME ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND WENT OFF WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKE. FOR SOME REASON, MY 2006 G6 ISN'T ONE OF THOSE VEHICLES. I HAD TO PAY 254 DOLLARS AT A GM SERVICE CENTER TO HAVE THE PROBLEM REPAIRED. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 5 MPH AND HIGHER, THE DRIVER CONTROL CENTER WOULD CHIME THREE TIMES, FOLLOWED BY A WARNING MESSAGE THAT WOULD READ "LOSS OF POWER STEERING." IMMEDIATELY, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD BECOME EXTREMELY HARD TO TURN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WAS A FAIRLY MEDIUM BUILT INDIVIDUAL AND HE WOULD HAVE TO USE EXTREME BODILY FORCE IN ORDER TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL IN EITHER DIRECTION. THE DEALER VERIFIED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN WAS FAILING AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE AND THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNDER 83,500. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

BEFORE I BOUGHT THE CAR I HEARD A CLUNKING NOISE IN THE STEERING WHEN I TURNED THE WHEEL EITHER WAY. I TOLD THE DEALER THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE FRONT END. IF THEY FIXED IT, THEN I WOULD BUY THE CAR. THE DEALER SAID THERE WASN'T ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. NOT 6 MONTH LATER I WAS PULLING OUT OF A PARKING LOT AND MY POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING AND I COULD NOT TURN THE WHEEL. I PULLED TO A SAFE PLACE AND CALLED MY FIANCE. WE WERE LOOKING AT THE BOOK AND IT SAID TO CHECK THE POWER STEERING FLUID WITH AN ILLUSTRATION OF WHERE TO CHECK. AFTER ABOUT 20 MINS WE GAVE UP LOOKING BECAUSE WE COULDN'T FIND IT. TURNS OUT THIS CAR HAS ELECTRICAL POWERSTEERING. I HAD THE CAR TOWED AND CALLED THE GM CORPORATE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE PROBLEM. I SPOKE WITH DENNIS AND HE SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE UNLESS I HAD COMPLAINED ABOUT THE PROBLEM BEFORE. I TOLD HIM I HAD AND GAVE HIM THE BACKGROUND. AFTER ALL THE RUN AROUND YOU CAN IMAGINE I CALLED THE LOCAL DEALER AND TOLD THEM WHAT WAS GOING ON. THEY SAID THEY WOULD CHECK THE CAR OUT FREE OF CHARGE FOR ME AND LET ME KNOW WHAT WAS GOING ON.
