CLUNKING IN THE FRONT END WHEN TURNING .STATED GM AWARE OF ONGOING PROBLEM AND INSTEAD OF LUBRICATING THE I-SHAFT AS GM SAYS TO DO IT WAS REPLACED. IF GM IS AWARE OF PROBLEM WHY HASN'T I BEEN ADDRESSED? IT HAS BEEN REPORTED MANY TIMES TO NHTSA BUT ITS OBVIOUS GM IS THROWING IT UNDER THE RUG. I HAD AN EXTENDED WARRANTY BUT STILL HAD TO PAY $100.00 DEDUCTIBLE WHICH I DON'T FEEL I SHOULD AS IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM THAT GM IS AWARE OF. NOT TO MENTION THE CAR HAS ONLY 22707 MILES ON IT. YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORRY GM BECAUSE THIS IS THE LAST GM CAR MY FAMILY WILL PURCHASE. PROBABLY MANY MORE PEOPLE SWITCH TO A FORD OR IMPORTS BECAUSE OF THE GARBAGE THAT ARE PRODUCED BY GM NOT TO MENTION HOW THEY DON'T STAND BEHIND SOMETHING THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF YET I HAD TO PAY ANYWAY. *TR
POWER STEERING HAS GONE OUT IN OUR 2006 PONTIAC G6 THREE TIMES NOW. ONCE WHILE DRIVING UNDER 25 MPH AND TWICE WHILE PARKED IN A PARKING LOT. IT HAPPENS ABOUT ONCE A WEEK. YOU HEAR DINGING AND THE DISPLAY READS "POWER STEERING" THE WHEEL BECOMES ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN. THE ONLY WAY WE HAVE FOUND TO MAKE IT GO AWAY IS TO PARK THE CAR AND TURN IT ON AND OFF. WE HAVE NOT HAD THE MONEY TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER TO SEE IF THE PROBLEM CAN BE CORRECTED. *TR
MY WIFE PURCHASED A 2006 PONTIAC G6 IN SEPT. 2007. 2 WEEKS AFTER WE PURCHASED THE CAR THE BRAKE LIGHTS DIDN'T WORK CORRECTLY. THEY WOULD EITHER COME ON AND STAY ON OR BLINK OFF AND ON WHILE DRIVING. WE'VE TAKEN THE CAR IN AT LEAST 9 TIMES AND THE PROBLEMS STILL EXIST. THIS ISSUE HAS BECOME A SAFETY HAZARD AND I'M WORRIED THAT SOMEONE WILL REAR-END US WHILE MY SON AND DAUGHTER ARE IN THE BACK SEAT. WE'VE CONTACTED GM TWICE NOW AND NOTHING SEEMS TO BE DONE. THEY REPLACED NUMEROUS PARTS AND NOTHING SEEMS TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THERE ARE A NUMBER OF OTHER G6 OWNERS THAT ARE EXPERIENCING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. GM HAS ISSUED A RECALL, WHICH THEY APPLIED A LUBRICANT TO THE WIRING; THIS HAS NOT EVEN BEGAN TO SOLVE THIS ISSUE. TO ME THIS WAS THE LEAST EXPENSIVE RECALL THAT COULD BE ISSUED AND WAS ACCEPTED FOR SOME REASON. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE BEFORE THIS GETS OUT OF HAND. WHAT WILL IT TAKE FOR GM TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE POOR PRODUCT THEY PRODUCED? IT'S A NO WONDER WHY MORE CONSUMERS PURCHASE FOREIGN CARS OVER OUR OWN. WE DON'T STAND BEHIND OUR PRODUCTS. RANDOM POWER STEERING FAILURE WHILE DRIVING. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 50 MPH THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE POWER STEERING LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD, MOMENTS LATER THE VEHICLE NO LONGER HAD POWER STEERING. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALERSHIP AND THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 90000. UPDATED 04/13/10. *LJ UPDATED 09/21/10
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY B/T 60 - 65 MPH, HEARD A CHIME THEN STEERING WHEEL LOCKED. FORTUNATELY, WE WERE ON A RELATIVELY STRAIGHT RUN OF ROAD AND THERE WERE FEW CARS, SO MY PARTNER WAS ABLE TO DRIFT THE CAR UP ONTO THE GRASS. WE HAD SHUT THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY, BUT THEN THOUGHT IT SAFER TO MOVE UP FURTHER; UPON STARTING THE CAR, THE STEERING RETURNED. WE DROVE HOME ON THE SERVICE ROAD AT 30 MPH EVEN THOUGH THE STEERING FELT BACK TO NORMAL. AS I WRITE, THE CAR IS AT THE DEALER TO INVESTIGATE AND HOPEFULLY RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *TR
THIS IS COMPLAINT IS REGARDS TO MY 2006 PONTIAC G6 THAT WAS PURCHASED IN NOVEMBER 2007. ON NOVEMBER 11, 2009 WHEN I CRANKED THE VEHICLE A SERVICE AIRBAGS LIGHT CAME ON IN THE MESSAGE PANEL. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE DEALERSHIP, AND MADE A SERVICE APPOINTMENT FOR NOVEMBER 25, 2009. I FOUND THAT THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL #06V417000, FOR THE 2006 G6 FOR AIRBAG FAILURE. I CONTACTED GM AND ADVISED OF THE AIRBAG PROBLEM. UPON CONTACT WITH GM, I WAS ASSIGNED A CASE# 71-775-755-730. I EXPRESSED MY CONCERN THAT THIS COULD BE A SAFETY DEFECT THAT COULD MEAN THE AIRBAG COULD MALFUNCTION DURING AN ACCIDENT. GM ADVISED ME TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALERSHIP. I ADVISED GM OF THE SCHEDULED SERVICE APPOINTMENT. AFTER THE SERVICE APPOINTMENT, THE DEALERSHIP STATED THEY WOULD BE IN TOUCH WITH THE GENERAL MANAGER OF GM AND GIVE ME A CALL BACK. LATER THAT DAY I RECEIVED A CALL GM, ADVISING THAT MY CAR WOULD BE REPAIRED DUE TO SOME SPECIAL WARRANTY AND THAT THE DEALERSHIP WOULD BE IN CONTACT WITH ME AFTER THE HOLIDAY. AFTER NOT RECEIVING A CALL FROM THE DEALERSHIP IN A COUPLE OF DAYS, I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS ADVISED THAT GM WOULD NOT REPAIR MY CAR BECAUSE IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND I WAS THE SECOND OWNER. I EXPLAINED TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM MY CREDIT UNION AND THAT IT HAD 35,800 MILES ON IT, WHICH WAS UNDER 36,000 MILES. ALTHOUGH, THERE ARE 70,000 MILES ON THE CAR, IF THIS IS A MANUFACTURER'S SAFETY DEFECT IT SHOULD BE REPAIRED REGARDLESS OF THE MILES ON THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP ADVISED THE AIRBAG WOULD NOT DEPLOY IF THERE IS AN ACCIDENT. GM ASSIGNED THE CASE TO THE DISTRICT. I MADE NUMEROUS CALLS AND FINALLY RECEIVED A CALL BACK LAST WEEK. I WAS TOLD THAT GM WAS NOT GOING TO REPAIR MY CAR. I EXPRESSED MY CONCERNS AGAIN ABOUT THE MANUFACTURER'S SAFETY DEFECT. I FEEL THAT THE AIRBAG SHOULD BE REPAIRED BY GM SINCE NOT DEPLOYING COULD MEAN A MATTER OF LIFE OR DEATH IN AN ACCIDENT. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH GM. *TR
THE POWER STEERING ON MY 2006 PONTIAC G-6 SEEMS TO BE FAULTY. THE MANUAL IS MISLEADING BECAUSE IT MAKES YOU THINK YOU CAN ADD POWER STEERING FLUID, BUT ANOTHER PAGE DOESN'T TELL YOU WHERE THE FLUID GOES. WHEN I LOOK ONLINE, THE CAR DOES NOT TAKE POWER STEERING FLUID. I THINK THIS NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED. ITS NOT SAFE! *TR
I WAS PREPARING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN AND MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND I WAS UNABLE TO COMPLETE THE TURN. I WAS MAKING A LEFT ONTO THE INTERSTATE, THANKFULLY NO CARS WERE BEHIND ME, SO I TURNED MY CAR OFF AND BACK ON AND THE PROBLEM CORRECTED. UPON MAKING ANOTHER LEFT TURN INTO MY PARKING LOT AT WORK THE STEERING FAILED AGAIN, THIS TIME WITH VEHICLES BEHIND ME. I WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER AWAY FROM THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC AND TURN THE ENGINE OFF AND BACK ON. THIS VEHICLE HAS DONE THIS ALMOST EVERY MORNING WITHOUT FAIL. IT ONLY DOES IT WHEN I MAKE A LEFT TURN AND I NOTICE THERE'S A "SCRAPING" OR "SCRUBBING" SOUND WHEN I BEGIN TO MAKE A LEFT TURN. THIS IS RIDICULOUS AND GENERAL MOTORS NEEDS TO DO A RECALL ASAP. I KNOW THEY DON'T WANT A LAWSUIT WHICH COULD RESULT IF THIS ISN'T RESOLVED IF , GOD FORBID, SOMEONE IS INVOLVED IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THIS. IT'S DANGEROUS BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN THE POWER STEERING WILL FAIL OR WHERE YOU'RE AT WHEN IT FAILS. THE GOVERNMENT OR GM NEEDS TO STEP IN AND DO SOMETHING SOON! *TR
I BOUGHT A G6 NEW WITH 39 MILES, IT NOW HAS 28 THOUSAND MILES. NOTICES SERIOUS PROBLEMS WITH BRAKING, IT SHAKES AND WHEN I TRY TO STOP IT SHUTTERS . MY STEERING IS NOT GOOD EITHER, SOME DAYS THE STEERING WILL BE NICE AND SMOOTH AND OTHER DAYS HARD TO TURN. I ALSO HERE A POPPING NOISE WHEN I PUT MY FOOT ON GAS PEDAL TO DRIVE.. THE BRAKING SYSTEM IS OF MAJOR CONCERN AS THEY ALL ARE. MY CAR IS ONLY THREE YEARS OLD AND ONLY 28 THOUSAND MILES WHY HAS THERE NOT BEEN A RECALL, IT SEEMS OTHERS OUT THERE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS, SO IT HAS TO BE THE CAR. BEFORE SOMEONE DIES THE GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO CALL A MANDATORY RECALL,IF THE DEALER WON'T..OR REPLACE OUR AUTO'S WITH A SAFE ONE.. *TR
AT FIRST THE PROBLEM WAS RANDOM ONLY OCCURRING AFTER PUTTING THE CAR IN REVERE. STEADILY THE PROBLEM BECAME MORE AND MORE COMMON. CHANGING FROM HAPPENING EVERY COUPLE OF WEEKS TO HAPPENING ALMOST EVERY DAY. THE PINNACLE WAS WHEN I WAS DRIVING HOME ONE NIGHT AND LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WHEN THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT WHILE MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN RESULTING IN THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS OF DAMAGE. THE CAR NOW HAS POWER STEERING FAILURE EVERY TIME I TURN LEFT, AND OR PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE. THE ONLY WAY TO FIX THE PROBLEM IS TO TURN OFF THE CAR AND TURN IT BACK ON. UNFORTUNATELY I HAVE NOT HAD ANY PARTS REPLACED OR HAD ANYTHING DONE TO FIX THE PROBLEM, DUE TO THE COST OF THE REPLACEMENT. SO UNTIL THERE IS EITHER A RECALL, OR A FISCALLY RESPONSIBLE WAY TO REPAIR THE CAR, I'M DRIVING A VERY UNSAFE CAR. *TR
MY PONTIAC G6 2006 HAS A FAULTY POWER STEERING MALFUNCTION THAT ALMOST RESULTED IN A HORRIBLE CRASH. THE CAR STARTED UP FINE AS USUAL, THEN ON THE ROAD, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS MAKING IT UNABLE TO TURN THE WHEEL AT ALL, AND THE POWER STEERING WHEEL LIGHT COMES ON. I DRIVE ON A FREEWAY EVERYDAY AND IT ALMOST RESULTED INTO A FATAL CRASH, IF I HADN'T PUT ON MY HAZARDOUS LIGHTS IMMEDIATELY. THE POWER STEERING WHEEL, TO MY SURPRISE, DOES NOT USE FLUID RATHER IS ELECTRONIC. THEREFORE HIGHLY EXPENSIVE, JUST FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST, AND THEN FOR REPAIR. I STRONGLY URGE FOR THIS DEFECT TO BE NOTIFIED AND BE RECALLED FOR ITS DANGEROUS POTENTIAL CONSEQUENCES WHILE ON THE ROAD. *TR
STEERING ON 2006 PONTIAC G6 GT. THERE HAS TO BE SOMETHING DONE. IF YOU GOOGLE STEERING PROBLEMS ON THIS VEHICLE YOU WILL SEE. I HAVE REPLACED MY RACK THREE (3) TIMES IN THIS CAR. IT HAS 61,000 MILES. I JUST REPLACED MY HALF SHAFT AND THIS MORNING COMING TO WORK THE RACK AGAIN FAILED, MY STEERING LOCKED AND I CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. I WAS NOT INVOLVED BUT SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE AND HAVE GM HELD ACCOUNTABLE TO RECALL THIS CAR AND DO SOMETHING WITH THE STEERING. PEOPLES LIVES ARE IN DANGER AND NOTHING IS BEING DONE. *TR
2006 PONTIAC G6 WITH 22,000 MILES ON IT. WAS TOLD THAT BOTH FRONT AND BACK ROTORS NEED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $660. INVESTIGATED ON LINE TO DISCOVER THAT THIS IS A "COMMON" ISSUE WITH PONTIAC VEHICLES THAT THE ROTORS WARP AND RUST WITH AS LITTLE AS 12,000 MILES. MY VEHICLE IS COVERED UNDER A BUMPER-TO-BUMPER WARRANTY, HOWEVER GM CLAIMS THIS FALLS UNDER "NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR". IT IS NOT NORMAL FOR ROTORS TO NEED TO BE REPLACED SO SOON. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. WHILE DRIVING THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT WOULD INTERMITTENTLY ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL, AND THEN THE POWER STEERING WOULD FAIL. SHE CONTACTED THE DEALER AND A TECHNICIAN STATED THAT SHE WOULD HAVE TO PAY $240.00 FOR A DIAGNOSTIC FEE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE FORD MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,000.
MY CAR STEERING IS STALLED ALL OF A SUDDEN WHILE I WAS TAKING AN EXIT FROM THE FREEWAY. IT HAS BECOME VERY HARD TO PULL OVER THE CAR TO A SIDE. I WOULD HAVE RUN INTO ANOTHER CAR IF THE OTHER CAR DID NOT STOP AND HONK AT ME. TODAY I WOULD HAVE BEEN DEAD IF THE SAME THING HAPPENED ON A FREEWAY. THERE IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE IN THIS PONTIAC G6 CAR. WHEN TAKEN TO THE REPAIR SHOP THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO FIND ANY ISSUE. FINALLY AFTER COUPLE INTERACTIONS WITH THE REPAIR SHOP, THEY FOUND A PROBLEM WITH STEERING SHAFT. LATER, I GOT TO KNOW THAT THIS PROBLEM IS BEEN THERE FOR A WHILE AND GM HAS NOT ORDERED A RECALL AND FIXED THE ISSUE. I DO NOT MIND SPENDING MONEY AND FIXING IT, BUT THE PROBLEM IS, THAT THERE IS NO FIX AND EVEN AFTER CHANGING THE SHAFT. THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THE PROBLEM WILL NOT REPEAT. GM HAS TO DO A RECALL AND FIX THE ISSUE AT THE BOTTOM. *TR
MY CAR HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP NOW 4 TIMES FOR PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING. IT WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS WHILE IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY FOR A POPPING/CLUNCKING NOISE IN THE STEERING. THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT NEEDED LUBRICATING ON ONE OF THE VISITS, IT NEEDED TIE ROD ENDS ON ONE VISIT, AND SOME PART OF THE STEERING SHAFT WAS REPLACED ON ONE OCCASION.NONE OF WHICH CORRECTED THE PROBLEM COMPLETELY. ON THIS LAST VISIT WHICH WAS 11/09/09, NOTHING WAS DONE, BECAUSE THE DEALER SAID IT WAS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH GM, AND THE PART THEY NEED TO FIX THE CAR IS BACKORDERED, SO THEY CANNOT REPAIR THE PROBLEM. THE CAR FEELS LIKE IT IS ALL OVER THE ROAD WHILE DRIVING IT. THE LAST REASON I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WAS BECAUSE THE STEERING WHEEL COMPLETELY LOCKED UP WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN FROM A DEAD STOP. AFTER THE FIRST THREE VISITS, THE NOISE WOULD GO AWAY FOR A WEEK TO A MONTH AND THEN RETURN. I HAVE READ ON INTERNET SITES, AND I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THESE PROBLEMS. THE CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE WITH ALL OF THESE STEERING RELATED PROBLEMS.*TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE AND WOULD CONTINUE TO ILLUMINATE UNTIL THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED. WHEN SHE WOULD ATTEMPT TO MAKE A LEFT TURN, THE WARNING LIGHT WOULD RE-ILLUMINATE. ON A SEPARATE OCCASION, WHILE TRAVELING AT SPEEDS OF 70 MPH, THE POWER STEERING LOCKED AND SHE COULD NOT MOVE THE STEERING COLUMN. SHE WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE SAFELY. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNDER 75,000.
THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT EVERY MORNING OR WHEN YOU TURN CAR OFF , THEN RESTART IT. I WAS BACKING OUT OF PARKING SPACE AND IT FAILED, I COULD NOT TURN THE STEERING WHEEL, A SECURITY OFFICER WAS ABLE WITH HIS STRENGTH GET ME OUT OF THE MIDDLE OF LANE IN PARKING LOT. I THEN TURNED CAR OFF AND ON SEVERAL TIMES AND IT JUST SO HAPPENED TO RELEASE ITSELF. WE JUST DRIVE TO AND FROM WORK IN FEAR OF IT GOING OUT IF I STOP AT STORE FOR GROCERIES. IT HAS GONE OUT ON HIGHWAY, WE STAY CLEAR OF THOSE TOO, WE CAN NOT ENJOY OUR CAR BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM, PARTS THAT HAVE FAILED THE CAR SHOULD BE REPLACED IN A RECALL TRYING TO SAVE TO FIX. HOPING IT WOULD BE RECALLED AS THE G5 HAS BEEN. I HAVE BEEN A LOYAL PONTIAC CUSTOMER AND HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM OF THIS MAGNITUDE. THE RIGHT THING TO DO IS TO RECALL. I WAS DRIVING MY 2006 PONTIAC G6 ON 31 OCTOBER 2009, I TURN OFF THE INTERSTATE AND THE POWER STEERING LOCKED. POWER STEERING LIT ON THE RADIO AND THE WHEEL WAS HARD TO TURN. I FINALLY GOT TO AUTOZONE AND BROUGHT SOME FLUID, BUT FOUND OUT THAT THERE IS NO WHERE TO PUT IT. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. I THINK GM NEED TO DO RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOME SERIOUSLY GET HURT. *TR
WE WERE ON OUR WAY HOME FROM A FAMILY VISIT. ABOUT 30 MILES OUT, TWO DEER RAN RIGHT INTO OF, THERE WAS NO WAY TO DODGE THEM. UPON IMPACT THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND THE ENGINE WAS PUSHED BACK. SURPRISINGLY NONE OF THE AIRBAGS WORKED OR WAS DEPLOYED UPON IMPACT. THERE WAS A GREAT FORCE FELT DUE TO IMPACT, BUT NOT ONE AIRBAG DEPLOYED. THE OFFICER WHO RESPONDED TO THE SCENE WAS SURPRISED TO SEE SO MUCH DAMAGE DONE TO THE VEHICLE, BUT NOT ONE AIRBAG DEPLOYED. HE EVEN STATED THAT THE AIRBAGS MUST BE FAULTY. *TR
I OWN AND AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF A 2006 PONTIAC G6 GTP. AT 49,500 MILES A SEVERE SHIMMY DEVELOPED AND STEERING BECAME UNRESPONSIVE. THIS MORNING I WENT TO MAKE A LEFT TURN IN MY 2006 PONTIAC G6 AND MY POWER STEERING FAILED. POWER STEERING CAME ACROSS THE RADIO AFTER A "DING" SOUND. I WAS ALMOST IN AN ACCIDENT AS I WAS HARDLY ABLE TO COMPLETE THE TURN. AFTER I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD I RESTARTED MY VEHICLE AND THE PROBLEM STOPPED. I IMMEDIATELY WENT TO THE GM DEALERSHIP THAT SOLD ME MY VEHICLE. I BOUGHT A PONTIAC 2006 FROM CARMAX IN JULY OF THIS YEAR 2009 AND HAD NO PROBLEMS UNTIL OCTOBER OF 2009. I, TOO HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE POWER STEERING ON MY PONTIAC G6 2006 MODEL. THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP WHILE I WAS TRYING TO PARK. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON. THE PONTIAC G6 2006 HAS A PROBLEM WITH ITS STEERING. THE DRIVER HAS TO HAVE MUSCLES IN ORDER TO MAKE A TURN. IF IT IS A SHARP TURN YOU WILL BE UP ON THE CURB. AFTER THAT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED, WE TOOK IT BACK AND THEY FINALLY SAID THAT THEY DIDN'T HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT WAS WRONG SINCE THEY REPLACED THE SWITCH A SECOND TIME. THE PONTIAC G6 POWER STEERING WILL INADVERTENTLY SHUT DOWN WHEN PULLING INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. *TR
I DRIVE A 2006 PONTIAC G6 WITH A LITTLE MORE THAN 60,000 ON IT. IN THE LAST FEW WEEKS, MY BRAKE LIGHTS HAVE COME ON WITHOUT THE BRAKE PEDAL BEING PRESSED. THE LIGHTS STAY ON UNTIL I PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL, AT WHICH TIME THE BRAKE LIGHTS GO OFF. IT'S GOTTEN TO THE POINT THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON EVERY 5-6 SECONDS, AT WHICH TIME I HAVE TO PRESS THE PEDAL TO "RESET" THEM. THIS PROBLEM -- THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF WHAT BRAKE LIGHTS ARE DESIGNED TO DO -- HAS NEARLY CAUSED TWO ACCIDENTS. ON OCT. 19, 2009, I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT IT, AND WAS TOLD THAT THE SWAY BAR AND TIE RODS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I WAS TOLD THAT WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. IT DIDN'T. I THEN WAS TOLD THAT MY BRAKES -- FRONT AND REAR-- NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ON OCT. 29, 2009, I REPLACED THE FRONT BRAKES BUT NOT THE REAR -- MY BRAKE MECHANIC SAID THE REAR BRAKES HAD AT LEAST 20,000 MILES LEFT ON THEM. NONE OF THESE REPAIRS FIXED THE PROBLEM (AND NONE OF THE OLD PARTS ARE AVAILABLE). THIS DID NOT SURPRISE ME, AS NONE OF THE REPAIRS HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH ELECTRICAL WIRING. HAVING DONE SOME RESEARCH, I FOUND THAT THERE IS A GM RECALL FOR MY VERY PROBLEM (RECALL # 09V036000). THE RECALL BEGAN ON FEB. 17, 2009. I CALLED PONTIAC ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD BY CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT BECAUSE MY VIN WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL, THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PROBLEM. I ASKED WHETHER IT WAS POSSIBLE THAT ANOTHER PONTIAC G6, NOT LISTED IN THE RECALL, COULD HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AS THOSE RECALLED. I WAS TOLD THAT WAS NOT POSSIBLE. THE ARROGANCE OF PONTIAC HAS BAFFLED AND UPSET ME, AND I AM TO THE POINT WHERE I HAVE CONTACTED LEGAL COUNSEL. I RECENTLY FOUND OUT THAT MY 06 PONTIAC G6 NEEDS A NEW LOWER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE CAR ONLY HAS 52,000 MILES ON IT. THIS IS A PROBLEM BECAUSE THE WHEEL COULD FALL OFF. THE LOWER CONTROL ARM SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BE REPLACED AT ONLY 52,000 MILES. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE DEALER THEY TOLD ME THAT I HAD OTHER THINGS WRONG, WHEN IN RETURN THOSE PARTS WERE FINE AND THE WHOLE CONTROL ARM NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE BODY CONTROL MODULE WAS REPLACED THREE DIFFERENT TIMES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
THE FIRST INSTANCE THAT I WAS MADE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE WAS WHEN A POLICE OFFICER PULLED ME OVER TO QUESTION THE BRAKE LIGHTS ISSUE OF THEM NOT COMING ON WHILE I WAS STOPPED. IT APPEARED THAT THEY WERE JUST NOT WORKING, HOWEVER THE ISSUE INITIALLY WENT AWAY AND I WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE BRAKE LIGHTS WORKING INTERMITTENTLY FOR A YEAR AFTER THAT. OCCASIONALLY OTHER DRIVERS HAVE SIGNALED THAT THERE IS SOMETHING AMISS WITH THE BRAKE LIGHTS. HOWEVER, IT APPEARS THAT NOW THAT THE CAR IS AT 100,000+ MILES, THE ISSUE WITH THE BRAKE LIGHTS IS NOW CONSTANT. THE ISSUE DOES NOT DISAPPEAR AND REAPPEAR. WE HAVE NOW HAD ANOTHER DRIVER FOLLOW THE CAR TO TEST THE BRAKE LIGHTS, AND IT IS EXACTLY THAT THE LIGHTS ARE ON CONTINUOUSLY WHILE DRIVING AND OCCASIONALLY TURN OFF AND THEN WHEN THE BRAKES ARE PRESSED, THE LIGHTS TURN OFF, AND SO ON. IT APPEARS THAT THE CONTACT IS INCORRECT BETWEEN THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE BRAKE LIGHTING. IT APPEARS THAT THE EXACT ISSUE THAT I AM EXPERIENCING IS DESCRIBED BY: NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V036000 HOWEVER, MY CAR'S VIN IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE STATED IMPACTED POPULATION, HOWEVER THE MANUFACTURER DOES STATE THAT THE ISSUE COULD AFFLICT MORE CARS, BUT THAT THE PRIMARY PERIOD IN WHICH THIS MANUFACTURING ISSUE OCCURRED WAS ADDRESSED.
