WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE, REACHED HIGH TEMPERATURES DUE TO INTAKE MANIFOLD FAILURE. DEALER REPLACED THE INTAKE MANIFOLD AND EGR VALVE. ALSO CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS DEFECTIVE. *AK
PONTIAC 2001 GRAND PRIX HAS 49,000 MILES AND RADIATOR IS FILLED WITH SLUDGE AND LOSING COOLANT. DEALER EXAMINATION REVEALS BAD MANIFOLD INTAKE VALVE WITH COOLANT AND OIL MIXING IN RESERVOIR AND ENGINE COMPARTMENT. RESEARCHED ON INTERNET AND FOUND HUNDREDS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FOR VARIOUS GM MAKES OVER LAST SEVERAL YEARS. SOME INCIDENTS REPORTED MANIFOLD INTAKE EXPLODED AND RESULTED IN FIRE. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY GM. ESTIMATED COST OF REPAIRS $700 -$1,000. DEALERS ARE AWARE OF PROBLEM AND TRY TO HIDE THAT FACT, BASIC CONSUMER FRAUD,
WHILE DRIVING, THE CAR PUT OUT LITTLE POWER AND I WAS ONLY ABLE TO GO 10-12 MPH. I TOOK TO ONE MECHANIC WHO SAID IT MAY BE TRANSMISSION. I TOOK TO TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST WHO SAID THE TRANSMISSION WAS IN GOOD CONDITION. HE FELT IT WAS SOMETHING IN THE ENGINE. TOOK TO 3RD MECHANIC WHO SAID THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS CLOGGED AND HE REPLACED IT. COST TO FIND OUT IT WAS NOT TRANSMISSION- $51.50. COST TO REPLACE CATALYTIC CONVERTER-$975.15. MILEAGE AT THIS TIME WAS 87747 MILES. *JB
CATALYTIC CONVERTER CAR LOST POWER WAS NOT RUNNING ROUGH. TOOK VEHICLE TO MECHANIC TOLD CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS BAD. TOOK TO DEALER TOLD NOT COVERED BECAUSE CAR WAS MISFIRING. ASKED IF BAD CONVERTER COULD CAUSE MISFIRE SINCE CAR WAS NOT RUNNING ROUGH AT FIRST. TOLD NO.ASKED WHAT WAS CAUSING MISFIRE,TOLD COULD BE ANYTHING. CHARGED $75 BECAUSE CONVERTER WAS NOT COVERED DUE TO MISFIRECONVERTER WARRENTY FOR 80000 MILES. *AK
THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. I FOUND MANY PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM I HAVE AND WE ARE SCREAMING FOR A RECALL. THE IGNITION SWITCH WILL GO FROM THE "ON" POSITION TO "OFF", BUT WILL NOT ANY FURTHER. THEREFORE, I CANNOT REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE SWITCH. IT DOES NOT ALWAYS DO THIS, BUT IT IS BECOMING MORE FREQUENT. I CAN USUALLY LEAVE THE KEY IN FOR A WHILE AND WHEN I RETURN, THE SWITCH WILL ROTATE AND THE KEY WILL COME OUT. THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING. ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED! ONE PERSON SAYS: I'M HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MINE. IS YOUR PROBLEM INTERMITTENT? MINE IS, STARTED ONE DAY AND WORKS OFF AND ON, WHENEVER IT FEELS LIKE IT REALLY, WORKS MORE IN WARM WEATHER THAN COLD WEATHER. IT'S WEIRD. MY TWO THOUGHTS ARE EITHER A LOOSE CONNECTION (GROUND OR OTHERWISE) OR MAYBE THE BTSI SOLENOID AT THE SHIFTER BASE. AND THE ONLY RECALL THAT IS CURRENT IS ONE FOR THE ENVOY, TRAILBLAZERS WHERE YOU DISABLE THE SHIFTER AND COLUMN OVER RIDE FEATURE. PLEASE HELP US - THIS IS VERY UPSETTING AND I AM TIRED OF WONDERING IF DAY TO DAY THE KEY WILL COME OUT OF THE IGNITION. *JB
FRONT DRIVER WHEEL BEARING WENT OUT AFTER ONLY 39,000 MILES ON CAR. VERY EXPENSIVE TO FIX. FROM WHAT I HEAR THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. FOUND AT LEAST 2 OTHER FAILURES IN THE DATABASE. AND I KNOW OF A COUPLE OVERSAW MYSELF. SEEMS LIKE THERE IS A PROBLEM IN THE BEARING DESIGN PONTIAC NEEDS TO FIX. *LA
WHEN ATTEMPTING TO TURN LEFT STEERING COLUMN LOCKS. *AK CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD THUMP SOUND WHEN TURNING INTO A PARKING SPACE. WHEN THE CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO STRAIGHTEN THE WHEEL BUT IT WAS HARD TO TURN. ONCE THE WHEEL BECAME STRAIGHT AGAIN THE CONSUMER DROVE IT HOME. WHILE IN ROUTE THE CONSUMER NOTICED IT WAS DIFFICULT TO MAKE LEFT TURNS BECAUSE THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO BIND. *PH *NLM
THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE WHEEL BEARING WENT OUT AT ONLY 53,000 MILES. THE SHOP THAT FIXED THE CAR SAID THAT THE WHEEL BEARING USUALLY DOES NOT GO OUT UNTIL AFTER 100,000 MILES.
AUTOMATIC WINDOWS IN VEHICLE HAVE FAILED. THE REAR-PASSENGER SIDE WINDOWS HAS BEEN FIXED TWICE. THE OTHER THREE WINDOWS HAVE GONE OUT WITHIN A COUPLE MONTHS OF EACH OTHER. THE VEHICLE IS ONLY 2 YEARS OLD AND THE WINDOWS HAVE FAILED 5 TIMES. EACH REPAIR COST APPROXIMATELY $350 A PIECE. *AK
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAILURE: IN OVERDRIVE AT ABOUT 55MPH, SUDDEN BANG. CAR STARTED BUCKING WITH MORE NOISES. PULLED OVER. OVERDRIVE NO LONGER WORKING, AS WELL AS FAILURE WITH 1ST, 2ND, AND REVERSE. NURSED IT HOME IN 3RD. CAR ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO PUSH EVEN IN NEUTRAL. HAD IT TOWED TO DEALER. PROBABLE TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT UPCOMING. ONLY 31,000 MILES ON CAR.*AK
I WAS SMELLING GAS FUMES AND TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND WAS TOLD I NEEDED TO FIX IT IMMEDIATELY AND WAS ADVISED NOT TO DRIVE IT ALL. THE FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR HAD TO BE REPLACED AT THE COST OF $200. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY CHECKED THE INTAKE MANIFOLD AND IT WAS LEAKING COOLANT AND NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED SOON AS WELL. I CONTACTED PONTIAC AND FILED A CLAIM FOR SOME ASSISTANCE SINCE I WAS TOLD THIS WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY $700. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS BUT USUALLY HE DID NOT SEE THIS PROBLEM AT SUCH AN EARLY MILEAGE. HE TOLD ME IT HAPPENED MORE WHEN THESE VEHICLES HAD ABOUT 60000 TO 80000 MILES. I BOUGHT THE CAR AS A CERTIFIED VEHICLE WITH A WARRANTY TO 39000 MILES. SINCE I BARELY HAD PASSED THE WARRANT MILES I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT DO THE WARRANTY WORK FOR ME SINCE THEY WERE A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AND FOR ME TO CONTACT PONTIAC. I CALLED AND ASKED FOR ASSISTANCE ON A GOODWILL WARRANTY OR SECRET WARRANTY. THEY TOLD ME TO TAKE IT TO A PONTIAC DEALERSHIP AND GET IT CHECKED. I DID AT THE COST OF $37.00 AND CALLED THEM BACK TO CONFIRM WHAT THE FIRST MECHANIC DIAGNOSED. THE SERVICE MANAGER QUOTED ME UP TO $900. I ASKED IF THEY COULD HELP ME WITH ANY ASSISTANCE. I CALLED SEVERAL TIMES TO PONTIAC AND WAS TOLD I NEEDED TO TALK TO THE CUSTOMER SERVICE ADVISOR I HAD FILED THE COMPLAINT WITH. I WAS UNABLE TO TALK TO HER DIRECTLY AND LEFT A VOICE MAIL AND WAS TOLD SHE WOULD GET BACK WITH ME WITHIN 24 HOURS. I HAVE STAYED HOME ALL DAY FOR 2 DAYS WAITING AND STILL HAVE NOT HEARD FROM HER. I TALKED TO THE SERVICE MANAGER AT BUZ POST IN ARLINGTON TX AND HE SAID HE COULD GIVE ME A 10% DISCOUNT ON THE PARTS AND WOULD DISCOUNT IT TO $600. THE ADDITIONAL COST OF THE $900 WAS OTHER MAINTENANCE ITEMS. THIS IS STILL A HEAVY BURDEN FOR ME TO HAVE TO PAY. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS NOT UNCOMMON TO HAPPEN AT THIS AMOUNT OF MILES.
ANTI-THEFT KEEPS GOING OFF. THERE IS BROKEN WIRE IN OUR IGNITION.
WHILE MAKING EITHER A LEFT OR RIGHT HARD TURN THE STEERING FAILS. AFTER WORKING THE STEERING WHEEL BACK AND FORTH IT BECOMES FREE AGAIN. THIS HAS ONLY HAPPEN AT LOW SPEEDS SO FAR. AFTER CHECKING WITH THE DEALERSHIP I FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE AND CUSTOMERS PAY TO HAVE THE KNUCKLE AT THE RACK AND PINION REPLACED. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE SAME ITEM FOR 1996 THROUGH 1998 CARS EXHIBITING THE SAME PROBLEMS. WOULD YOU PLEASE INVESTIGATE FURTHER.*AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNED A 2001 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT WHEEL HUBS KEPT DETACHING FROM THE VEHICLE AND HAD TO BE REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES. IN JUNE OF 2006, THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE AND HAD TO BE TOWED FROM THE SCENE. A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. IN JANUARY OF 2008, THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE AGAIN AT A REST STOP. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED FOR THIS INCIDENT. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE DRIVEN AFTER THE SECOND FIRE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
WHEN ACCELERATING QUICKLY, THE FIRST SHIFT OF THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION GRINDS.*AK
AIR CONDITIONING AND HEATER WILL ONLY WORK ON MAX (NUMBER 5 BLOWER SPEED). BLOWER SPEEDS 1-4 DO NOTHING, HOWEVER, THE FAN? IN THE ENGINE COMES ON WHEN FAN BLOWER SWITCH IS TURNED TO ANY ON POSITION. THIS CAR HAS HAD SO MANY PROBLEMS. NOW I SEE WHY THE FOREIGN CAR MARKET IS BOOMING BECAUSE OF THEIR QUALITY AND RELIABILITY. *NLM
THE WIRING HARNESS UNDER THE HOOD IS ROUTED NEXT TO THE ENGINE, WHICH CAUSES THE WIRES TO MELT AND THEN THE CAR CUTS OUT/STALLS. THESE STALLS HAPPEN BOTH AT STOPS AND WHILE GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. IF NOT CORRECTED THE CAR MAY STALL CAUSING LOSE OF POWER TO THE STEERING AND BRAKES AND THEN A CRASH. THIS FIRST HAPPENED AT ABOUT 36000 AND THEN AGAIN AT ABOUT 70000 MILES. I BELIEVE THAT IT TAKES ABOUT 30000+ MILE BEFORE THE HARNESS IS MELTED ENOUGH TO CAUSE THE ISSUE. IT HAPPENED JUST OUTSIDE OF THE MANUFACTURES WARRANTY. I CALLED GM TWICE AND ASKED THAT THEY RECALL IT BUT THEY INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS NOT RECALLED AND THAT I HAD NO WAY TO GET IT REVIEWED FOR RECALL. THE DEALERS HAVE A SERVICE ADVISOR ON THIS ISSUE AND I AM SURE THEY ARE SEEING SEVERAL (1000) OF THESE ISSUES A YEAR. ALSO, AT ABOUT 70000 MILES, THE POSITIVE LEAD ON THE BATTERY BEGAN LEAKING ACID. GM STATES THERE IS NOT RECALL, BUT I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON IS ON PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. *AK *SC *JB
RIGHT REAR SEALED WHEEL BEARING FAILURE AT 49,700 MILES.
2001 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX HAS LOST ALL LIGHTS -- INTERIOR DASHBOARDS AND EXTERIOR -- AT NIGHT ON HIGHWAYS. THIS BEGAN IN MARCH 2003 AND HAS CONTINUED RANDOMLY SINCE FOR A TOTAL OF TWO DIFFERENT OCCURRENCES TO-DATE. IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP ON TWO OCCASIONS, WITH EQUIPMENT REPLACEMENT BUT NO RESOLUTION. ALSO, DASHBOARD LIGHTS FLICKER ON AND OFF FOR APPROXIMATELY 5 SECONDS EVERY TIME CAR IS STARTED. *NLM
SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING. WENT TO DEALER AND HAD IT RESET, WAS READING EGR BAD. CAME BACK ON NEXT DAY. TOOK IT BACK TO DEALER AND THEY FIXED EGR VALVE. PROBLEM RESOLVED. *NLM

I BOUGHT MY PONTIAC GRAND PRIX GT (3.8L) IN LATE '01, I MOSTLY SERVICED EVERYTHING WITH MY ORIGINAL DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE. AFTER ABOUT 3 YEARS (UNDER THE MFG WARRANTY) THE CAR BEGAN HESITATING WHEN ACCELERATING UPHILL & UNDER LOAD AT ABOUT 50-60 MPH, I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT (AT THE DEALERSHIP) THE TOOK ME FOR A ROAD TEST WHERE THE PROBLEM WAS DUPLICATED THEN THEY DID SOME DIAGNOSTICS (CHARGED ME FOR IT) BUT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY SPECIFIC PROBLEM (NO CODES EITHER). MY FATHER HAS A CHEVY IMPALA LS '00 AND HE HAS THE EXACT SAME ISSUE, SO I DECIDED THERE MUST BE SOME KIND OF ISSUE WITH THESE CARS THAT GM SERVICE PEOPLE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT. SO I CALLED THE GM SERVICE CENTER, LEFT A MESSAGE & A TECHNICIAN CALLED ME BACK ONLY TO TELL ME THAT THERE'S ABSOLUTELY "NOTHING" HE CAN TELL ME MORE ABOUT IT AND THERE'S NO KNOW ISSUE / HE HAS NO IDEA WHY BOTH OF OUR CARS (SIMILAR MAKES) HAVE DEVELOPED THE SAME ISSUE. I WENT ALL OVER THE PLACE TO MANY DIFFERENT & INDEPENDENT MECHANIC SHOPS TO NO AVAILABILITY. I FINALLY WAS TOLD THAT THERE'S A KNOWN (& CONFIRMED) ISSUE WITH THESE VEHICLES (THIS WAS AN ISSUE FROM '99 TO '01) AND THAT THE PROBLEM WAS A FAULTY PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE). SO I CALLED UP MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO FIND OUT THE PRICE, WHICH THEY TOLD ME WOULD BE OVER "$900.00" FOR THE PART PLUS LABOR CHARGES... I THOUGHT THAT IT WOULD BE NICE OF GM TO OFFER ME SOME REPAIR FOR THIS FAULTY PART THAT HAS DRIVEN ME NUTS FOR YEARS, BUT THEY REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING EVEN A REQUEST TO SIMPLY UPDATE THE PCM SOFTWARE FREE OF CHARGE WAS DENIED TO ME. SO I CHECKED IN TO A DEALRSHIP & ORDERED THE PCM SOFTWARE UPDATED, THE PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED! SO AFTER GOING THRU ALL THE SUGGESTIONS & ELIMINATING PART AFTER PART MYSELF, I FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT! THE PROBLEM WAS FAULTY SOFTWARE ON THE PCM (POWER CONTROL MANAGEMENT) CHIP THAT WAS REFLASHED & NOW WORKS FLAWLESSLY. SHOULDN'T GM AT LEAST REIMBURSE ME FOR THIS? *TR
KEY STICKS IN THE IGNITION. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY REPLACED A SWITCH IN THE TRANSMISSION. THIS DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THE CAR CAN BE SHIFTED INTO GEAR WHILE IT IS OFF BECAUSE OF THE KEY STUCK IN THE IGNITION. *JB
I'M NOT SURE ON ALL DATES OF CAR PROBLEM'S. CARFAX HAS ALL THAT INFORMATION. IT'S BEEN IN THE SHOP 6 TIMES,NOW MY SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT HAS COME ON AGAIN. THIS WILL BE THE 7TH TIME WITHIN 1 YEAR. ONE THING WAS FIXED 3 TIME'S IN SAME MONTH,I BELEAVE.THE DEALER SHIP IN TX, SAID THE DEALER SHIP IN IL NEVER FIXED IT THE FIRST 2 TIMES.

CONSUMER STATES THAT COMPUTER WAS THROWING OUT DIFFERENT CODES TOOK TO PONTIAC, PONTIAC STATED THAT THE SOFTWARE NEEDED UPGRADING. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. TS
WE HAD DIFFICULTY STARTING THE CAR WITHIN A WEEK OF PURCHASE. THE DEALER COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. IT EVENTUALLY STARTED TO DIE WITH NO WARNING. ANOTHER MECHANIC REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP. ON THE WAY HOME FROM THE MECHANIC IT DIED ON THE HIGHWAY GOING 60 MPH. IT HAS DIED ON THE INTERSTATE GOING 75 MPH AND ALSO IN TOWN GOING 10 MPH. IT HAS DIED NUMEROUS TIMES BUT WOULD USUALLY START AFTER SITTING A FEW MINUTES BUT HAS LEFT US STRANDED ON THE HIGHWAY AND IN PARKING LOTS. FOUR MECHANICS HAVE LOOKED AT THE CAR AND CAN NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. MR
CONSUMER STATES OF HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE ABS SYSTEM .DEALER WAS CONTACTED, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR ON THE RIGHT FRONT WAS DAMAGED BY A FOREIGN OBJECT OR DEBRIS FROM THE ROAD WHICH MAY HAVE CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE SENSOR WIRING, THE CONSUMER BELIEVES THAT THIS COMPONENT SHOULD BE PROTECTED BY A SMALL SHIELD TO PREVENT THIS FROM OCCURRING. 01 PONTIAC GRAND PIRX GT(4DOOR) BOUGHT THE CAR IN MAY 01 (50MILES)BRAND NEW IN KERNERSVILLE NC @VESTAL PONTIAC.THE STEERING KEPT POPING LIKE A ANKLE WOULD DO IF YOU TURNED IT AND MADE IT POP.I CONSTANTLY HAD THEM CHECK THE CAR AND I HAVE DOCUMENTS TO PROVE IT.I LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR ON JUNE26,02 (32 MILES ON THE CAR)THE DAY AFTER LAST COMPLAINT.I LOST CONTROL ON THE INTERSTATE AT 60PMH GOING INTO A LEFT TURN.I DID (4)360'S AND HIT THE INSIDE CEMENT WALL ALMOST HEAD ON IN THE MIDLE OF HWY.NO AIR BAGS CAME OUT.MOST THE DEMAGE WAS FACIAL , AND ENGINE CRADLE RELATED(REPAIRED).NO STEERING COMPONENTS WERE DEMAGED.THE ONLY STEERING COMPENT WAS FIXED WAS BROKE IN HALF CAUSEING THE STEERING WHEEL TO DO A COMPLETE 360 TURN.I HAD NO CONTROL OF THE CAR WHEN I WRECKED.THIS COMPONENT WAS NOT CONNECTED TO MY FRONT WHEELS OR STEERING.THE STEERING SECTOR THAT BROKE IS A MALE /FEMALE COMPENT THAT IS SUPPOSE TO COLLAPSE IF HIT BY HUMAN.THIS SECTION CAME AWAY AND BROKE THE TOOTH OFF OF THE MALE CUASEING NO CONNECTION FROM STEERING WHEEL TO FRONT END IN THE DASH BOARD /INNER CAB FIREWALL AREA.THE MALE SHOULD HAVE DROVE DOWN INTO THE FEMALE PIECE WHEN HIT IN FRONT END(NOT COME OUT AS IF HIT IN THE REAER AND I JERKED UP ON THE STEERING WHEEL).I HAVE PICTURE OF THE DEFECTED PART IN THE CAR AS WELL THE PART.I SOLD THE CAR THIS PAST AUG04.I LOST FINACIALLY, AND MY INSURANCE IS KILLING ME.GM HAD THE CAR UNDER INVESTIGATION.NEVER GOT A ANSWER THAT MADE SENCE FROM THEM.NATIONWIDE DID 10 GRAND REPAIRS ON THE CAR AND WAS NEVER RIGHT.PLEASE HELP ME OR WARN/FIND OTHERS .*AK
PONTIAC GRAND PRIX 2001: WAS HIT BY ANOTHER CAR IN THE LEFT REAR WHILE CAR WAS AT RED STOP LIGHT WAITING FOR GREEN LIGHT, SPINNED, WENT ON TO "AUTOMATIC" DRIVE AND HIT FIRE HYDRANT ON THE RIGHT SIDE FENDER. THE IMPACT MAY HAVE BEEN TOO GREAT TO CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO MOVE PASSED MEDIAN AND STILL HIT A FIRE HYDRANT AND STOP SIGN AT THE INTERSECTION. MY WIFE SUFFERED MULTIPLE INJURIES, I.E., BROKEN RIBS, NECK WOUNDS, ORGAN BURST, ETC., THAT KILLED HER AT THE SCENE. I HAVE SEEN A CAR THAT WENT ON "CRAZY SPIN" AFTER RUNNING OVER A PIECE OF TIRE ON THE ROAD. I HAVE BEEN BOTHERED BY THAT INCIDENT WHICH HAPPENED JUST A MONTH AFTER MY WIFE'S DEATH AND BEGAN TO QUESTION THE DESIGN OF FRONT WHEEL DRIVEN CARS THAT GO ON TO "AUTOMATIC" DRIVE AFTER ANY DISTURBANCE. THE OTHER CAR THAT HIT MY WIFE'S CAR IS SMALLER AND IT MUST HAVE BEEN MOVING OVER THE SPEED LIMIT OF 35 MPH TO HAVE TO CAUSE THE GRAND PRIX TO DEVELOP THAT MUCH MOTION AND MOVE AT RANDOM.. AND IT MUST BE THE MECHANISM OR TRANSMISSION THAT TRIGGERED IT TO MOVE. THEORIZE THAT THE GRAND PRIX WAS AT STOP AND BRAKES APPLIED, CAR WOULD NOT MOVE THE DISTANCE IT HAD IF NOT UNDERGONE "AUTOMATIC". THERE WERE PREVIOUS REPORTS ABOUT FRONT WHEEL CARS/ENGINES BEFORE THEY BECAME COMMON. THE GRAND PRIX'S ON-STAR DID NOT ACTIVATE OR FUNCTION, ALSO THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. IT WAS NOT PHYSICALLY POSSIBLE FOR THE GRAND PRIX TO MOVE THAT MUCH DISTANCES IF ATTRIBUTED ONLY TO OTHER VEHICLE HITTING IT. THE GRAND PRIX PRO-PERFORMANCE CLAIM WAS SOMETHING THAT HAVE BEEN PUT TOGETHER WITHOUT SAFETY CHECKS. NON-DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIR BAG ALSO HAD DELAYED RESCUE AND THE "ON STAR" CLAIM OF IMMEDIATE ALERT DID NOT WORK. HOW SAFE ARE THE FRONT WHEEL CARS NOW? I HAVE TO READ BACK POPULAR MECHANICS MAGAZINE 1978'S BACK ISSUES TO FIND THE ARTICLE ON THE FRONT WHEEL DRIVE CARS. THE CONSUMER IS REPORTING THAT THE 2001 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX IS AN UNSAFE VEHICLE, WHICH CAUSED THE DEATH OF HIS WIFE, WHERE THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, AND A TRUNK THAT WAS PUSHED ALL THE WAY TO THE DRIVERS SEAT. WHILE DRIVER WAS DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED WHEEL BROKE AND BECAME DETACHED FROM AUTOMOBILE, WHICH CAUSED DRIVER TO LOSE CONTROL. THEN, VEHICLE CRASHED INTO GUARDRAIL AND FLIPPED OVER, CAUSING 2 FATALITIES AND ONE SEVERE INJURY.*AK
THE STEERING ON THIS CAR EXHIBITS "PLAY" AT THE CENTER POINT OF THE STEERING (CAR GOING STRAIGHT, NOT TURNING) AND HAS FROM THE FIRST DAY I OWNED IT. IT FEELS AS IF IT HAS A WORN OUT STEERING BOX SIMILAR TO A HIGH-MILEAGE, OLD CAR WITH RECIRCULATION BALL TYPE STEERING BOX INSTEAD OF A RACK AND PINION. THIS PLAY CAUSES THE CAR TO DRIFT TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT WHEN DRIVING STRAIGHT DOWN THE ROAD. THIS CONDITION IS EXAGGERATED IN RAIN OR SNOW/ICE CONDITIONS WHEN THE LACK OF STEERING INPUT AND "FEEL" CAUSES ONE TO OVER-COMPENSATE THINKING THE CAR IS SLIDING. IT IS VERY DISCONCERTING. DESPITE MY MANY COMPLAINTS, THE DEALERS HAVE TOLD ME THIS PLAY IS "NORMAL" AND "WITHIN SPECIFICATIONS" AND REFUSED TO DISCUSS THE SUBJECT. THIS IS RIDICULOUS. I HAVE DRIVEN SIMILAR CARS, WITH MUCH HIGHER MILEAGE, AND THEIR STEERING HAS NO PLAY WHAT SO EVER! ALTHOUGH THERE HAS BEEN NO "INCIDENT" AS A RESULT OF THIS CONDITION (YET) IT IS INDEED A SAFETY HAZARD. *JB
I OWN A 2001 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX GT, 4 DOOR. ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS THE MOTOR ON THE AUTOMATIC WINDOWS HAS GONE OUT ON THREE DIFFERENT WINDOWS. ALL THREE TIMES THE MOTOR WAS REPLACED BY A PONTIAC DEALERSHIP. THE LAST TIME WAS NOVEMBER 2004 AND THE WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED. BECAUSE THIS WAS AN ONGOING PROBLEM I FOUGHT THE $500 BILL WITH THE DEALERSHIP AND EVENTUALLY GM FIXED THE WINDOW AT NO COST TO ME. A FRIEND OF MINE HAS A GOVERNMENT ISSUED PONTIAC, SAME YEAR, MAKE & MODEL. SHE HAS HAD TWO WINDOW MOTORS REPLACED. *JB
2001 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX HAS LOST ALL LIGHTS -- INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR -- AT NIGHT ON HIGHWAYS. THIS BEGAN IN FEBRUARY/MARCH 2002 AND HAS CONTINUED RANDOMLY SINCE FOR A TOTAL OF SEVEN DIFFERENT OCCURRENCES TO-DATE. IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP ON FOUR OCCASIONS, WITH EQUIPMENT REPLACEMENT ON THREE OCCASIONS BUT NO RESOLUTION. NOW WE ARE BEING TOLD THAT UNLESS THE PROBLEM IS DUPLICATED WHILE IN THE SHOP, PONTIAC CAN DO NOTHING. CONSIDERING THE FACT IT ONLY HAPPENS AFTER THE SHOPS ARE CLOSED, GETTING THE VEHICLE THERE WHILE AN OCCURRENCE IS HAPPENING IS VERY UNLIKELY. *NLM THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE STOPPED AT A LIGHT, ALL INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR LIGHTS WOULD GO OUT FOR A FEW SECONDS, THEN FLASH IN A SEQUENCE OF FOUR TIMES, THEY WOULD GO OUT FOR A FEW SECONDS AND COME BACK ON FOR A FEW SECONDS, THE SCENARIO CONTINUED THROUGH THE EVENING. THERE WAS ALSO A CLICKING SOUND COMING FROM THE DASH AREA, AS IF THERE WAS A SWITCH TRYING TO CONNECT. THE CONSUMER STATED SHE EXPERIENCED THE LIGHTS GOING OUT AND COMING BACK ON FOR A PERIOD OF 10 YEARS. THE REPAIR SHOP STATED A HEADLAMP LIGHTING CIRCUIT BREAKER LOCATED IN THE DASH ON THE RIGHT SIDE NEEDED REPLACED. THE CONSUMER STATED THE PROBLEM HAS SINCE RESURFACED. UPDATED 04/01/13

ON JAN 15TH 2002 I WAS DRIVING ON FREEWAY GOING 60 MPH AND THE VEHICLE (DIED) STOPPED WITH NO WARNING SIGNS OF ITS FAILURE. POLICE OFFICER ASSISTED ME TO THE SHOULDER I THEN WAITED FOR TOW TRUCK. CAR WAS TOWED TO HULING BROS THEIR TECH'S FOUND THAT THERE WAS NO FUEL PRESSURE AND PUMP WAS NOT WORKING THEY REPLACED THE FUEL TANK MODULE. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS FIXED ACCORDING TO THE TECH PRIOR TO ME PICKING UP THE VEHICLE THE TECH'S TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE RAN FINE. I WAS CALLED TO COME AND PICKED THE VEHICLE UP IN THE SERVICE CENTER OF HUILING BROS. I DROVE JUST UNDER A MILE AND AGAIN THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF (DIED) IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. THERE WERE NO SIGNS OF WARNING FROM THE CAR. I WAS TOWED BACK TO HULING BRO SERVICE STATION. TECH'S VERIFIED IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP AGAIN THE CONNECTOR TO THE TOP OF THE FUEL PUMP HAD TO BE FIXED AGAIN. *JB

2001 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX ENGINE OIL LEAK, INTERIOR WATER LEAK AT PASSENGER DOOR *CW THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE WATER LEAK MAY HAVE BEEN A RESULT OF THE DOOR BEING MISALIGNED. THE VEHICLE PULLED TO THE LEFT. THE CONSUMER WAS THEN INFORMED THE REASON FOR THE PULLING OF THE VEHICLE WAS DUE TO THE INFERIOR TIRES ON THE VEHICLE. THE STICKER IN THE TRUNK SPECIFIED H RATED TIRES, HOWEVER THE TIRES THE DEALER SOLD ON THE VEHICLE WERE GOODYEAR EAGLE LS TIRES. THE CD PLAYER WAS INOPERATIVE. THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE EGR VALVE AND GASKET WERE REPLACED. THE SUNROOF WAS LEAKING AND THE ALTERNATOR WAS REPLACED. THE LEFT FRONT CV BOOT WAS LEAKING AND THE LEFT FRONT HUB BEARING WAS NOISY. THE IGNITION CYLINDER, PARKING BRAKE, POWER STEERING HOSE, PUMP SEAL, RACK AND PINION AND OUTER TIE ROD WERE REPLACED. *JB
FOR 6 YEARS MY 2001 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX GT 3.8L V6 WAS THE IDEAL CAR. I NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH IT. I FULLY EXPECTED THE CAR TO GIVE ME AT LEAST ANOTHER 5 GOOD YEARS OF SERVICE. THE CAR WAS PROPERLY MAINTAINED - OIL/FLUIDS CHECKED AND CHANGED REGULARLY. I HAD NEW TIRES/BRAKES PUT ON THE CAR 8 MOS. AGO AND THEY COMMENTED ON HOW GREAT THE CAR RAN, ESPECIALLY FOR IT'S AGE. I HAD THEM ALSO CHECK ALL OF THE BELTS, HOSES, ETC. WHILE THEY WERE THERE AND THEY ASSURED ME THE CAR WAS IN GREAT SHAPE AND I WAS NOT EVEN SCHEDULED FOR A TUNE UP FOR ANOTHER 20,000 MI.. ON SEPT. 6, 2007, I PARKED MY CAR, TURNED OFF THE ENGINE, WENT INSIDE MY HOME FOR APPROXIMATELY 5 MIN., THEN RETURNED TO MY CAR TO FIND SMOKE AND FLAMES COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE FIRE DEPT. RESPONDED QUICKLY BUT THE CAR WAS A TOTAL LOSS. IT WAS PARKED UNDER THE CARPORT AND HAD I NOT BEEN THINKING CLEARLY AND OPENED THE HOOD TO TRY TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE MYSELF, MY HOME COULD ALSO HAVE BEEN SEVERLY DAMAGED (AT BEST). I HAVE LEARNED OVER THE LAST 24 HRS. THAT THIS VERY THING HAS HAPPENED TO MANY OTHERS. AFTER EVERYTHING I HAVE READ, I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY A RECALL WAS NEVER ISSUED OR AT THE VERY LEAST WHY I WAS NOT MADE AWARE THAT THERE WAS A POSSIBILITY OF THIS HAPPENING. I HAD ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING. THIS IS MORE THAN A MINOR MALFUNCTION OR INCONVENIENCE. THE CAR IS A COMPLETE LOSS AND HAD I NOT BEEN LEAVING SO SOON AFTER SHUTTING OFF THE ENGINE, MY HOME COULD HAVE BEEN DESTROYED AS WELL. AS IT STANDS, I AM WITHOUT A CAR (INSURANCE IS PROVIDING A RENTAL), MY CARPET IS STAINED WITH SOOT, AND THERE IS THAT VERY DISTICTIVE ODOR THAT GREETS ME WHEN I PULL IN TO THE CARPORT AND ENTER MY HOME. A FRIENDLY REMINDER, I GUESS, TO NOT LET MY CHILDREN SIT IN THE BACK SEAT WHILE I RUN INSIDE (15 FEET FROM THE CAR) TO GRAB THAT LETTER I NEED TO TAKE TO THE POST OFFICE. *JB
