SUDDEN POWER STEERING LOSS ON LEFT HAND SIDE WHILE ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A TURN. *NM
PEOPLE KEPT TAIL GAITING ME AND I FINALLY REALIZED THAT MY BRAKE LIGHTS DO NOT WORK - THE SOURCE OF THE MALFUNCTION IS THE STEERING COLUMN HAZARD SWITCH HAS FUSED AND DOES NOT WORK. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. THE CONTACT STATED THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AUTOMATICALLY. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE AS THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE. THE FAILURE WAS REPAIRED, YET THE WARNING LIGHT CONTINUED TO ILLUMINATE SPORADICALLY. THE DEALER REPAIRED THE WIRING BELOW THE SEAT AND THE FAILURE CEASED COMPLETELY. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE 7000. *AK
I OWN A 2002 GRAND PRIX GTP, THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR GETS FLOODED EVERYTIME THERE IS A HEAVY RAIN. I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND IT WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY, IT WAS THE FRONT COWL SEAL. THE SEAL HAS FAILED ONCE AGAIN, BUT THIS TIME ITS NOT UNDER WARRANTY, I DID SOME RESEARCH AND IT SEEMS THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. *JB
I WAS ALMOST REAR-ENDED BY ANOTHER DRIVER AS ALL BRAKE LIGHTS ON MY CAR HAVE STOPPED WORKING FOR NO APPARENT REASON . WHILE I HAVE NOT HAD THE REPAIR MADE YET, I'VE VISITED SEVERAL ONLINE FORUMS TO DISCUSS THE PROBLEM AND THERE ARE A NUMBER OF DRIVERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM WHICH STEMS FROM A FAULTY HAZARD LIGHT SWITCH. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE SPEEDOMETER FAILED AND WHILE MAKING RIGHT TURNS THERE WAS A CLICKING NOISE THAT SEEMED TO BE COMING FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER WHEEL. THIS OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE SPEEDOMETER WAS ALWAYS STUCK ON ZERO AND THE MILEAGE OF THE VEHICLE BECAME UNREADABLE. THE SPEEDOMETER HAS BEEN REPLACED THREE TIMES BY A LOCAL DEALERSHIP, HOWEVER THE PROBLEM STILL OCCURS. THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM WITH THE SPEEDOMETER AND DETERMINED THE FRONT PASSENGER WHEEL BEARING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN ALERTED.
MY VEHICLE STALLED WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON A BUSY 5 LANE ROAD (2 LANES GOING EACH WAY - AND A TURN LANE). I COULD TELL THAT IT WAS ABOUT TO STALL AND WAS ABOUT TO TURN INTO A BUSINESS PARKING LOT. MY VEHICLE COMPLETELY STALLED IN THE TURN LANE. I WAS FORTUNATE THAT I WAS NOT HURT AND THAT THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT. I WAS ABLE TO PUT THE HAZARD LIGHTS ON AS SOON AS MY CAR WAS DEAD. FORTUNATELY, I HAD A CELL PHONE AND I WAS ABLE TO CALL ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED AFTER BEING ALERTED FROM A PASSERBY THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE INOPERATIVE, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED A SWITCH IN THE STEERING WHEEL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. UPDATED 7/31/2006 - THE DEALER INDICATED THAT THE SWITCH WAS WORN OUT BY USING THE BLINKER TOO MUCH. *NM
ON SATURDAY MARCH 11, 06 MY 40 TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION GRAND PRIX 2002 CAR'S ENGINE COMPARTMENT STARTED ON FIRE WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND BY THE TIME THE FIRE DEPARTMENT COME TO THE SEEN THE CAR WAS A TOTAL LOSS. MY WIFE, DAUGHTER AND GRANDCHILD JUST LEFT THE CAR BEFORE IT WENT UP IN FLAMES. AFTER THE FIRE THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO AN EXPERT REPAIR MECHANIC FOR ANALYSES OF WHAT CAUSED THE FIRE. ACCORDING TO THE MECHANIC THE FIRE STARTED BY THE INTAKE MANIFOLD AND THE COOLING FAN. ALL REPAIRS WERE DONE BY GM CERTIFIED MECHANICS AND SHOPS BEFORE THE FIRE HAPPENED. FROM RESEARCH DONE ON THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE IT HAS A RELATIONSHIP TO NHTSA CASES EA02030 AND PE02050. *NM
MY BRAKES HAD TO BE REPAIRED IN AUGUST, 2005 AND AGAIN TODAY. THE CAR HAS ONLY 19145 MILES ON IT . IN AUGUST THE DEALER REPLACED THE ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS , THE PAPERWORK SAID IT WAS DONE ON THE FRONT BRAKES, THEY SAID THAT THEY NEVER SEEN ROTORS IN THAT BAD OF SHAPE (RUSTED AND PITTED). I HAD 15990 MILES ON THE CAR AT THAT TIME. IT WAS STILL COVERED BY WARRANTY. NOW TODAY I HAD TO PAY 191.69 TO REPLACE THE FRONT BRAKE PADS (WHICH WERE COMPLETELY SEPARATED FROM THEIR BACKING) I ALSO HAD TO HAVE THE ROTORS TURNED DOWN . WHEN I TOLD THEM THAT THEY HAD JUST REPLACED THE FRONT BRAKES IN AUG.(3000 MILES EARLIER) THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY MADE A MISTAKE ON THE WORK ORDER PAPERWORK AND THEY HAD ACTUALLY REPLACED THE REAR BRAKES IN AUGUST. I ASK THEM WHY THEY DIDN'T CHECK ALL OF THE BRAKES OR FIND THE PROBLEM THEN . I HAVE GOT THE BRAKES PIECES THAT THEY TOOK OFF TODAY . THEY SAID THAT I ACTUALLY GOT ABOUT 5000 MORE MILES OUT OF THE BRAKE PADS THAN MOST PEOPLE GET. THIS JUST DOESN'T SEEM RIGHT TO ME. WHEN YOU BUY A BRAND NEW CAR YOU DON'T THINK THAT YOU SHOULD BE REPLACING BRAKES WITH 14000 MILES AND TWICE WITHIN 19000 MILES . THIS TIME THE BRAKES WENT CLEAR TO THE FLOOR SEVERAL TIMES WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT AND ALSO LOCKED UP SEVERAL TIMES , LUCKILY THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE APPLYING BRAKE PRESSURE AT 5 MPH THERE WAS A LOUD GRINDING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS SEEN BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THE ROTORS WERE RUSTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER SUGGESTED RUSTED ROTORS WERE ATTRIBUTING TO THE LACK OF DRIVING OF THE VEHICLE RATHER THAN ROAD SALTS. THE LAST INCIDENT OCCURRED AT AN ANNUAL STATE INSPECTION, THE BRAKES DID NOT PASS STATE INSPECTION DUE TO THE RUST ON THE ROTORS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP AND THE MECHANIC SUGGESTED REPLACING THE ENTIRE ANTILOCK BRAKES TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED A PUDDLE HAD FORMED UNDER THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET WAS LEAKING ANTIFREEZE. ACCORDING TO AN ACQUAINTANCE OF THE CONTACT, THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE, NO RECALL INFORMATION WAS AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DETERMINED THERE ARE NO RECALLS FOR THIS VIN.
WITHOUT ANY PRIOR ISSUES ONE DAY THE GM ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM FAILED ON OUR CAR, RESULTING IN OUR INABILITY TO START THE CAR. MOTHER AND 9 MONTH OLD CHILD WERE STRANDED BECAUSE OF THIS SITUATION. TO FIX THE ISSUE, THE DEALERSHIP ORIGINALLY QUOTED US AROUND $250.00. AFTER THEY HAD OUR CAR, THE TUNE CHANGED AND NOW THEY HAVE CHARGED US $860.00. *AK
ENGINE CAUGHT FIRE DUE TO INTAKE MANIFOLD LEAKING OIL ONTO EXHAUST MANIFOLD; REPAIRED BY GM DEALER AND BACK IN SERVICE 1/4/2006; ON 6/3/2006 ENGINE LOCKED UP WHILE DRIVING; NOW DEALER REPORTS ENGINE MUST BE REPLACED AND GM IS TAKING NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR EITHER PROBLEM & CONTENDS THEY ARE NOT RELATED. *NM
I WAS DRIVING THE 2002 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX GTP ON A HIGHWAY WITH 45-55 MPH SPEED LIMIT FOR APPROX. 45 MIN. THE CAR SHUT OFF 15 SEC. AFTER I HEARD THE ENGINE BACKFIRE. THE SPEEDOMETER WENT FROM 0 ALL THE WAY UP, AND BACK TO 0. I PULLED INTO THE NEAREST PARKING LOT AND POPPED THE HOOD. I DISCOVERED A FIRE NEAR THE INTAKE AND THE LOWER RIGHT SIDE OF THE VALVE COVER. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A PONTIAC DEALER. THEY REPLACED THE FUEL INJECTORS, THE LOWER INTAKE, VALVE COVER, SPARK PLUG WIRES, ELECTRICAL HARNESS AND MUCH MOTOR THE COST WAS APPROX. $5000. AFTER SAYING IT WOULD TAKE 2 WEEKS, IT TOOK THE SHOP 6 OR 7 WEEKS TO FIX, SO MY CAR RENTAL BILL WAS THOUSANDS MORE THAN INSURANCE WOULD COVER THE CAR WASN'T NEARLY AS RESPONSIVE AND HAD TROUBLE GOING UP EVEN THE SMALLEST INCLINES. ALSO, THE SHIFT-PARK INTERLINK STOPPED WORKING SO THE CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK AFTER THE FIRE. AND MY SUNROOF HASN'T WORKED SINCE. AND MY FAN FOR THE A/C AND HEATER ONLY WORKS WITH THE FAN ON 5. ALSO I HAVE NOTICED A WEIRD SOUND COMING FROM THE SPEAKERS ON OCCASION. ABOUT A WEEK OR TWO LATER THE CAR WAS IN THE SHOP BECAUSE THEY HAD NOT REPLACED THE SPARK PLUGS; ONE OF THEM WAS CRACKED AND WAS MOST LIKELY CRACKED WHEN I GOT THE CAR BACK. THE CAR HAD ABOUT 90,000 MILES WHEN IT HAD CAUGHT FIRE. THEN ON JUNE 3, 2006-AFTER LESS THAN 2000 MILES, THE ENGINE LOCKED UP. THE DEALER SAID THE ONLY OPTION THEY CAN DO TO FIX IT IS PUT A NEW ENGINE IN--THE INITIAL ESTIMATE IS $5200. ALSO, I'M GOING TO BE OUT OF A CAR AGAIN AND WILL HAVE THE BURDEN OF RENTAL CAR COSTS AGAIN. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ, THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS FIRES INVOLVING THE GM 3.8. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. *NM
THIS IS AN UPDATE TO COMPLAINT 10107847. PLEASE INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION WITH THE PREVIOUS SUMMARY. IN ADDITION TO THE PARTS PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED, AT APPROXIMATELY 84,000 MILES, THE FRONT STRUTS AND THEIR ASSOCIATED MOUNTS REQUIRED REPLACEMENT DUE TO EXCESSIVE WEAR. INDICATIONS WERE FIRST NOTICED FROM A LIGHT TAPPING FROM THE STRUT MOUNT ON PASSENGER SIDE, FOLLOWED BY THE DRIVERS SIDE. REMOVAL AND INSPECTION OF THE STRUTS AND MOUNTS REVEALED THAT THE STRUT MOUNTS HAD LITERALLY MELTED AROUND THE METAL TOP BUSHING AT THE POINT OF ATTACHMENT OF THE VULCANIZED RUBBER. ALTHOUGH IT DEFORMED AND SEPARATED FROM THE RUBBER, THE MOUNT PROVISIONS RETAINED THE PARTS SUFFICIENTLY ENOUGH TO PREVENT INADVERTENT RELEASE OR OTHER ABNOMALIES EXCEPT FOR THE TAPPING SOUND IT MADE. THE STRUT ASSEMBLIES LOST THEIR DAMPENING ON THE UPSTROKE SIDE AND WERE WEAK ON THE DOWN OR COMPRESSION SIDE (TYPICAL STRUT). *JB
10/31/05 CAR CLEANED AT CAR WASH. 11/01/05 NOTICED A WINDOW CLEANER SMELL, WHILE DRIVING COMING THROUGH THE AIR VENTS FOR A MINUTE. 11/12/05, 12:45 P.M. DROVE THE CAR 6 MINUTES TO A HAIR SALON. 1:45 P.M. STARTED FOR HOME, PARKED AT CONVENIENCE STORE, LEFT CAR RUNNING WITH MY PERMANENTLY DISABLED HUSBAND INSIDE. PROCEEDED HOME NOTICED THE WINDOW CLEANER SMELL AGAIN. 1:58 P.M. PARKED IN CONDOMINIUM PARKING LOT. 2:20 P.M. OUR NEIGHBOR TOLD ME OUR CAR IS ON FIRE. THERE WERE FLAMES 10' HIGH COMING OFF THE FRONT OF MY CAR. A LOUD EXPLOSION OCCURRED AND THE POLICE AND FIREMEN WERE SHOUTING TO GET BACK DOWN THE HILL AND GET THE CHILDREN ALL THE WAY DOWN THE HILL! I TOLD THE OFFICER THAT I WAS THE OWNER OF THE BURNING CAR. OUR NEIGHBOR TOLD ME HER TOYOTA WAS PARKED ON THE RIGHT OF MINE AND IT WAS ON FIRE TOO. WHEN THE FIRE WAS OUT, THE POLICE OFFICER TOLD ME THE HONDA CR-V ON THE LEFT OF MY CAR WAS ALSO BURNED, AND THEY WOULD NOTIFY THE OWNER. 2:35 P.M. A FIREMAN GOT THE REGISTRATION AND PERSONAL BELONGINGS OUT FOR ME. BEFORE MY CAR WAS TOWED AWAY, I TOOK PICTURES AND ASKED THE TOW TRUCK OWNER, IF HE COULD GIVE A REASON MY CAR BURNED UP. HE SAID IT LOOKS ELECTRICAL TO ME. SUNDAY, 11/13/05, 3:00 P.M. OUR SON-IN-LAW, A FIRE INSPECTOR FOR THE CLIFTON FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME TO THE UNOFFICIAL CONCLUSION THAT, IT LOOKS ELECTRICAL DUE TO THE BURN PATTERN. I REPORTED THE FIRE TO MY INSURANCE CARRIER AND GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. I WAS CONTACTED BY ESIS FOR GMC, AND SUPPLIED ALL THE DETAILS, PICTURES AND COPIES OF REPAIR ORDERS. THIS IS A POTENTIAL FOR FATALITIES AND MANY MORE OF THESE ENGINE FIRES WILL OCCUR IF THE CAUSE IS NOT FOUND. *JB
SHUDDER FROM TORQUE CONVERTER WHEN SHIFTING BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND GEAR. TORQUE CONVERTER WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED. WAS TOLD BY DEALER THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL. *JB
PASSENGER WINDOW MECHANISM BROKE, LETTING THE WINDOW FALL DOWN INTO THE DOOR. THE ONLY WAY TO REPAIR IT WAS TO REPLACE THE WHOLE MECHANISM. EVEN THAT THEE ONLY PART THAT NEEDED TO BE PLACE WAS A SMALL PIECE OF PLASTIC THAT A METAL CABLE RUNS THROUGH, COST OF REPAIR WAS $517.00 FOR A $20.00 PART. *NM
IN JUNE 2005 THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW MOTOR ON MY 2002 GRAND PRIX GTP BROKE AND JUST TODAY NOW THE DRIVER'S SIDE HAS DONE EXACTLY THE SAME. BACK IN JUNE IT COST ME OVER $400 TO HAVE A "USED" PART INSTALLED AND THAT WAS NOT EVEN EASY TO FIND. I AM GOING TO HAVE TO GET THIS FIXED ASAP AND WORRIED THAT ONCE AGAIN I WILL HAVE A PROBLEM FINDING THE PART. I WILL BE MAKING A DIRECT COMPLAINT TO PONTIAC AS WELL AS I BELIEVE THAT IT IS RIDICULOUS TO HAVE THIS HAPPEN TO TWO WINDOWS IN LESS THAN 4 YEARS. I LIVE IN SOUTH FLORIDA AND RARELY EVEN USE THE WINDOWS BECAUSE THE A/C IS ALWAYS ON. VERY DISAPPOINTING. *NM
DT: 2002 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. THE CONSUMER STATED THE FRONT PASSENGER WINDOW FELL DOWN, THEN, THE DRIVER'S REAR WINDOW FELL OFF FOUR DAYS LATER, AND FINALLY THE PASSENGER'S REAR WINDOW FELL OFF THE NEXT DAY. THIS PROBLEM STARTED ON AUGUST 24, 2005. THE MOTOR REGULATORS FOR THE FRONT WINDOWS WERE REPLACED ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF AGO. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE FIRST TWO WINDOWS WERE FIXED. WHEN THE THIRD WINDOW FELL OFF HE CONSUMER CONTACTED PONTIAC, AND THEY PAID FOR THE REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THEY WOULD REIMBURSE THE CONSUMER FOR THE PREVIOUS WORK, BUT THEY CALLED BACK TODAY AND STATED THEY WOULD NOT. *AK
THE WINDOWS IN MY GRAND PRIX JUST STARTED FAILING AND DROPPED DOWN INTO THE DOOR AND WOULD NOT OPERATE AT ALL. THE FIRST ON WENT THEN 4 DAYS LATER THE 2ND ONE WENT AND THE NEXT DAY A 3RD WINDOW BROKE AGAIN. EACH TIME WE HAD TO TAKE THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND HAVE THE MOTOR AND REGULATOR REPLACED AT 600.00 EACH TIME. THIS CAR IS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD AND SHOULD NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM. THIS WAS ALSO BOGUS SINCE GM REFUSE TO MAKE THE REGULATOR WITHOUT THE MOTOR SO THEY CAN CHARGE DOUBLE ON THE PART AT 350.00+DOLLARS. THIS IS ABSURD THAT THIS IS NOT A RECALL ISSUE YET. AND THE SERVICE PROVIDED BY PONITAC IS INSULTING. *JB
THROUGH NORMAL USE, ALL FOUR WINDOW REGULATOR MOTORS ON MY 2002 GRAND PRIX HAVE HAD CABLE BREAKS OR ENTANGLEMENT WITH THE HOUSING. 2 (FRONT) HAVE BEEN REPLACED BY MYSELF AT THE COST OF AFTERMARKET PART OF $90 PER INSTANCE. 2 (REAR) HAVE BEEN PRE-PAID FOR $90 PER ITEM, BUT REMAIN A BACK ORDERED/UNAVAILABLE ITEM - 1 PART SINCE JUNE. 3 OF ORIGINAL PARTS ARE STILL AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION. THE TWO REAR WINDOWS HAVE REQUIRED IMAGINATIVE SOLUTIONS TO REMAIN IN A CLOSED POSITION. THE MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE IS LISTED AS THE INCIDENT DATE. *JB
SUDDEN WHEEL HUB BEARING FAILURE. ROARING NOISE BECAME INCREASINGLY LOUDER. PASSENGER SIDE. DEALER REPLACED AT COST OF $439.00. DRIVER SIDE STARTING TO GO OUT NOW. 63,000 MILES. *JB
FAULTY INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET LEAK LOSES COOLANT FLUID. *JB
DT: THE CALLER SAID THE FRONT BRAKE PADS WERE COMPLETELY GONE. IT MADE A GRINDING WHEN YOU APPLYING THE BRAKES WHILE IT WAS MOVING. THE CALLER SAID THE BONDING ON THE PADS DID NOT HOLD THE PADS ON THE METAL BACKING PLATE. THE CALLER REPLACED THEM HIMSELF. DEALER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED YET. MANUFACTURER SAID TO TAKE VEHICLE TO A DEALER AND HAVE THEM LOOK AT THE BRAKES. THE CALLER DID NOT TAKE VEHICLE TO DEALER. *AK THE BRAKE PAD WERE ONLY 1/3 WORN AT THE TIME OF THEIR FAILURE. THE CONSUEMR REPLACED THE PADS HIMSELF.*NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO CLOSE THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR, BUT IT WOULD NOT CLOSE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE DOOR LATCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE SAME PART WAS PREVIOUSLY REPLACED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 92,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
FRONT HUB BEARING ASSEMBLY STARTED MAKING LOUD ROARING NOISE. HAD TO HAVE ASSEMBLY REPLACED. ALSO HAD TO HAVE DRIVE BELT REPLACED IT WAS WORN AND CRACKING. TOTAL COST OF REPAIRS TO VEHICLE OWNER 544.11.*JB
2002 PONTIAC GRAND AM;TURN SIGNAL CONSTANTLY CLICKING (BEHIND DASH, BY HAZARD BUTTON) AFTER TURN SIGNAL IS IN THE OFF POSITION. VERY ANNOYING. SOUNDS LIKE SAME PROBLEM AS RECALLS TO 2000 AND 2001 GRAND AM'S. HAD DIAGNOSTIC CHECK AND WAS TOLD IT WAS THE HAZARD/WARNING SWITCH (WHICH THEY COULD CHANGE OUT FOR APPROX $260.00).

OTHERS HAVE POSTED SIMILAR MESSAGES ON FORUMS WITH NEGATIVE RESULTS AND HUNDREDS OR THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN REPAIRS WITHOUT SOLVING THE PROBLEM....... MOST LIKELY RESPONSE FOUND WAS REPLACE THE PARKING LOCK RELAY. *NM
UNABLE TO EXTRACT KEY FROM THE IGNITION AFTER PUTTING THE CAR IN PARK. IN MOST FAILURES, I HAVE HAD TO RESTART THE CAR AND GO BACK THROUGH ALL OF THE GEARS AND PUT IT BACK INTO PARK THEN REMOVE THE KEY. I WORK WITH AN INDIVIDUAL WITH THE SAME YEAR CAR AND SHE RECENTLY HAD THE SAME ISSUE. HER CAR WAS UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY, BUT TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM IT WOULD HAVE COST OVER $1000 IF SHE HAD NOT HAD THE WARRANTY. I BELIEVE THE ISSUE RELATES TO THE TRANSMISSION NOT SHIFTING FULLING INTO PARK.
CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD NOISE, AND THEN THE ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE ABS MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.*AK
WINDSHIELD WIPERS STUCK IN NON-HORZONTAL (OR VERTICAL ) POSITION WHILE SWITCHED OFF. W IPERS WERE TURNED ON AND WHENY THEY WERE TURNED OFF THE ARMS DID NOT RETURN TO THE NORMAL (HORIZONTAL) POSITIONS. CAR WAS REAPIRED AT A MECHANICS SHOP FOR ABOUT $360.00. *AK
DT: 2002 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. THE CONSUMER STATED THE CALIPER TRUSTED FROM THE INSIDE OUT. THEY WERE GETTING TOO HOT AND WARPING THE ROTORS. GENERAL MOTORS WAS NOT WILLING TO HELP WITH THE PROBLEM. THE BRAKES WERE REPLACED BY THE DEALER IN JULY 2004. THE BRAKES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN IN MAY 2005. OTHER SERVICE CENTERS TOLD THE CONSUMER GM PUTS JUNK PARTS ON THEIR VEHICLES. THE VEHICLE SHOOK WHEN THE PROBLEM WAS HAPPENING. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS STUCK IN THIRD GEAR. THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IT WAS FIXED UNDER WARRANTY. THE PROBLEMS STARTED AFTER THE CONSUMER'S HUSBAND HAD AN ACCIDENT. *AK
DEALERSHIP INSPECTION REVEALED WORN/FAILED PARTS. BOTH FRONT HUB BEARINGS AND DRIVER SIDE DRIVE AXLE INBOARD CV BOOT TORN/GREASE ESCAPING. BRAKES OBSERVED WORN FRONT BOTH SIDES. PARTS REPLACED WITH NEW/REMANUFACTURED PARTS. OTHER PARTS ON FRONT NOT EFFECTED BY WORN COMPONENTS. OLD HUBS AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION, DRIVE AXLES RETURNED TO REMAN. FACILITY FOR CORE RETURN. FRONT HUB BEARINGS BUILT "SEALED FOR LIFE" SHOWED SIGNS OF BOTH GREASE SEAL FAILURE (BOTH SIDES) AND WEAR IN THE VERTICAL PLANE WITH NO MOTION DETECTED HORIZONTALLY, SOME SLIGHT WEAR INWARD AND OUTWARD ON BEARING. WHILE REMOVING OLD PARTS, DETECTED SAME WEAR PATTERN ON BOTH HUB BEARINGS BOTH SIDES FRONT, AND DETECTED SIGNS OF BURNISHED/BLUED SURFACE ON MATING SPLINE OF DRIVE AXLE ASSEMBLY (DRIVERS SIDE ONLY). DETECTED BOTH DRIVE AXLES CV BOOTS RUBBER LOSING THEIR PLIABILITY AND BECOMING VERY BRITTLE. VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 76,000 MILES ON IT AND WAS USED PRIMARILY HIGHWAY MILES CITY DRIVING. MAJORITY OF MILES ON VEHICLE ON STRAIGHT LEVEL PAVEMENT. NOTICED ON OCCASION SOME STALLING CONDITIONS ON HARD LEFT TURNS (MAX. RADIUS) WHICH HAVE SOMETIMES CAUSED A COMPLETE SHUTDOWN OF ENGINE. SINCE REPLACEMENT OF SAID PARTS, ENGINE/DRIVE TRAIN SEEMS TO BE MECHANICALLY "FLUID" WITH LESS HESITATION/SHIFTING DEMANDS ON THE TRANS AXLE ASSEMBLY. FLUID/FILTER REPLACEMENT IN TRANS AXLE REVEALED HIGHER THAN AVERAGE WEAR INDICATED BY SOFT FORM METALS IN THE PAN AND FILTER CAUSING A NEAR COMPLETE CLOGGING CONDITION. HEAVY FORMATIONS. *NM

1)LOST ONE SPEED ON HEATER FAN, THAN LOST ALL SPEEDS. OBVIOUSLY IN THIS CLIMATE, THE DEFROSTER IS A VERY IMPORTANT ACCESSORY. HAD THE HEATER RESISTER REPLACED AND GOT 4 SPEEDS WHICH WAS OK. IT`S NOW 1 WEEK LATER AND IT STOPPED WORKING AGAIN. ON A 2002 VEHICLE, THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING. THE WARRANTY HAS RUN OUT BECAUSE OF MILEAGE. *AK

I HAVE COMPLAINT ON THE FAILURE OF MY AIR CONDITIONER. THE AIR CONDITIONER WENT OUT JUST SHORTLY AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED DUE TO THE MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE. I HAVE A 2002 PONTIAC MONTANA AND I BELIEVE THE AIR CONDITIONER SHOULD NOT GO OUT IN 2 YEARS AND OF COURSE IT GOES OUT SHORTLY AFTER THE WARRANTY RUNS OUT ON IT. I ALSO HAVE A 1990 CHEVY SILVARADO WITH 141 SOME THOUSAND MILES ON IT AND THE AIR CONDITIONER JUST WENT OUT ON IT. THAT GOES TO TELL YOU THAT GM ISN'T MAKING THEIR PRODUCTS LIKE THEY USED TO THEY MAKE THEM SO THEY BREAK AND THEY CAN GET ALMOST A 1000 TO REPAIR IT EVERY TIME SOMETHING GOES OUT ON THEM. IN 04 I HAD MY RACK N PINION REPLACED CAUSE LEFT SIDE BROKE MATAGA OF STOCKTON DID IT THEY ALSO REPLACED POWER STEERING PUMP EVER SINCE THEN I'VE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING AND NOW IT'S WORSE I'VE REPLACED THE POWER STEERING PUMP BUT IT STILL STEERS HARD ALSO THE STEERING DOESN'T FEEL RIGHT VERY SENSITIVE AT TIMES LIKES TO WANDER AND I HAVE TO USE THE BUTTON UNDERNEATH THE STEERING COLUMN TO RELEASE MY KEY I REPLACED THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT STILL DOESN'T FEEL SAFE I SAW IN 09 YOU HAD A RECALL ON STEERING KNUCKLES I NEVER RECEIVED IT CAN I GET A RECALL ON THAT TO GET REPLACED THANK YOU
REAR AND FRONT WINDOWS DID NOT ROLL DOWN OR ROLL UP. CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP. TECHNICIAN INDICATED WINDOW REGULATOR FAILED. *AK

WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE IN THE RAIN WINDSHIELD WIPER ON DRIVER'S SIDE FAILED. THIS CAUSED THE DRIVER TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASH INTO A DITCH. CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. *AK
LOW OIL LEVEL INDICATOR WILL INITIALLY TURN OFF WHEN STARTING VEHICLE AND WILL COME BACK ON AND STAY ON. IF VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED LOW OIL LEVEL INDICATOR WILL TURN OFF AND STAY OFF. OIL LEVEL IS OK. VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO DEALER AT LEAST TWICE AND THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *NM
WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD NOISE. VEHICLE SUDDENLY VEERED TO THE LEFT NEAR THE SHOULDER. THEN, VEHICLE STOPPED, CAUSING THE CONSUMER TO SUSTAIN MOUTH INJURIES. CONSUMER DISCOVERED THAT THE CRADLE FOR THE MOTOR ONLY HAD ONE BOLT HOLDING IT IN PLACE. THE MOTOR AND ALL OF THE ENGINE PARTS HAD SIMPLY FALLEN TO THE GROUND.*AK
MY PONTIAC GRAN PRIX BEGAN MAKING LOUD WHALING NOISES, IT BEGAN DRAGGING AND BURNING A LARGE AMOUNT OF FUEL. I ALSO HAVE SEVERAL OTHER OWNERS OF THE SAME VEHICLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THAT I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE FRONT HUB BEARING ASSEMBLY. THIS WILL COST ME $700.00 .THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS BECAUSE THAT HAS HAPPENED TO ALL OF THESE SAME CARS AND THEY ARE ONLY 2 YEARS OLD.I WAS INFORMED BY A MECHANIC THAT THE PARTS ARE MADE OF ALUMINUN. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. *JB
DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. THE SECURITY SYSTEM IS TOO SENSITIVE BECAUSE THE CAR WILL LOCK AND HE HAS TO WAIT FOR 20 MINUTES TO MOVE THE VEHICLE. THIS WILL OCCUR IF THE KEY IS DIRTY OR ANYTHING THAT WILL TRIGGER THE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM. HE DOES NOT MIND THAT THE CAR HAS THIS FEATURE. BUT THE FEATURE IS TOO SENSITIVE. THE CONTACT CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, AND THEY TOLD HIM THAT THEY COULD NOT RESET THE SYSTEM, AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE THIS WAS SIMPLY THE WAY IT WAS MADE. *AK *JB
