TAKATA RECALL WAS PERFORMED ON 3/25/16. ON 6/11/16, THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE (MY MOTHER) WAS DRIVING ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY AND STRUCK ANOTHER VEHICLE, WHICH WAS STOPPED, DURING A HEAVY RAINSTORM. THERE WAS HEAVY DAMAGE TO THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AND THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE DRIVER STRUCK THE STEERING WHEEL. THE DRIVER WAS TAKEN BY AMBULANCE TO A LOCAL HOSPITAL WHERE THE DRIVER WAS TREATED, INCLUDING X-RAYS, AND RELEASED. SEVERAL PEOPLE HAVE COMMENTED ABOUT THE FACT THAT THE AIRBAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED IN THIS TYPE OF COLLISION. DUE TO THE FACT THAT THERE HAVE BEEN RECALLS ON TAKATA AIR BAGS, INCLUDING ONE INVOLVING THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WHICH HAS BEEN COMPLETED ON THIS VEHICLE, THIS SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO.
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING AT A SPEED OF 45 TO 50 MPH ON A ROAD WITH A POSTED SPEED LIMIT OF 55 WHEN ANOTHER CAR HIT A PATCH OF ICE WHILE COMING OUT OF A DRIVEWAY AND SLID INTO THE ROAD IN FRONT OF HER. MY DAUGHTER COULD NOT STOP IN TIME AND RAN INTO THE LEFT FRONT THIRD PART OF THE OTHER CAR. THE OTHER CAR WAS CONSIDERED TOTALED BY THEIR INSURANCE COMPANY. THE FRONT OF OUR CAR HAD SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE SO BECAUSE OF IT'S AGE AND BECAUSE WE DIDN'T HAVE COLLISION COVERAGE I DECIDED IT WASN'T WORTH TRYING TO FIX SO IT WILL BE AUCTIONED AT A SALVAGE YARD. THE REASON FOR THE COMPLAINT IS THAT THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY CAUSING MY DAUGHTER'S FACE TO HIT THE DASH CAUSING SIGNIFICANT FACIAL INJURIES. ALMOST EVERYONE INVOLVED SEEMED TO THINK THAT IT WAS ODD THAT THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY SO WE THOUGHT WE SHOULD REPORT IT.
TAKATA RECALL - RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE JULY 2015. RECENT CALL TO PONTIAC CUSTOMER SERVICE INDICATES THEY HAVE NO DATE WHEN THE EXPECT THE PART TO BE AVAILABLE. THE RECALL NOTICE INDICATES IN BOLD AND UNDERLINE THE FOLLOWING: "UNTIL THE REPAIR IS PERFORMED, THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT SHOULD NOT BE OCCUPIED". THIS IS NOT PRACTICAL. IT HAS NOW BEEN SEVEN MONTHS AND IS UNACCEPTABLE. WHAT IS THE NHTSA DOING ABOUT THIS AND HOW CAN THEY ALLOW THIS TO GO ON FOR THIS LONG WITHOUT RESOLUTION.

ALTHOUGH DEALER COULD SIMPLY REPLACE THE AIRBAG THEY CANNOT BECAUSE YOUR SITE LISTS THIS AS REMEDY NOT AVAILABLE. THIS MEANS THE DEALER CANNOT BE REIMBURSED FOR REPLACING THE FAULTY AIR BAG. YOU ARE ENDANGERING MY FAMILY WITH YOUR INCORRECT REMEDY NOT AVAILABLE AN BASICALLY LETTING GM GET AWAY WITH NOT REPAIRING THE VEHICLE

TAKATA INFLATORS HAVE NOT BEEN REPLACED AFTER 6 MONTHS FROM RECEIVING THE NOTIFICATION. I HAVE A FOUR PASSENGER VEHICLE THAT I AM ONLY ALLOWED TO USE 3 SEATS SAFELY. THE FIX FOR THE AIR BAG INFLATOR HAS TAKEN TOO LONG AND OTHER COMPENSATION NEEDS TO BE PROVIDED SO THAT I CAN GET FULL UTILIZATION FROM MY VEHICLE. I HAVE NOT HAD AN INCIDENT BUT I CAN NO LONGER CONTINUE NOT USING MY FRONT PASSENGER SEAT.
TAKATA RECALL. WAS NOTIFIED IN JULY 2015 BY LETTER OF AIRBAG RECALL IN MY PONTIAC VIBE AND THAT I WOULD RECEIVE NOTICE WHEN THE PARTS WOULD BE AVAILABLE IN A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME. I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THIS CORRECTED SO THAT I MAY HAVE A FRONT SEAT PASSENGER RIDE IN THE VEHICLE WITHOUT FEAR OF AIRBAG INJURY OR DEATH. IT IS PREVENTING ME FROM UTILIZING MY VEHICLE FOR ITS INTENDED PURPOSES. TO DATE, I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY COMMUNICATION ABOUT PARTS AVAILABILITY.
GENERAL MOTORS WILL NOT PROVIDE A REPAIR TO THE RECALL ON MY CAR. I CONTACTED THEM DOZENS AND DOZENS OF TIMES. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON 4 YEARS! THEY WILL ALSO NOT PROVIDE ME WITH ALTERNATE TRANSPORTATION OR AN OFFERED BUYBACK.
MY WIFE WAS THE DRIVER. SHE HAD STOPPED TO BACK UP AND SWING INTO HER NORMAL PARKING SPOT. SHE HAD BEEN PARKING IN THIS SPOT FOR ALMOST 5 YEARS. THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED FROM THE STOP AND THOUGH SHE APPLIED THE BRAKES AND PARKING BRAKE, THE CAR ACCELERATED 40' THROUGH OUR BUSHES AND KNOCKED DOWN THE NEIGHBORS CHAIN LINK FENCE BEFORE STOPPING. IT STOPPED MOVING BECAUSE THE FWD WHEELS WERE OFF THE GROUND AS THE KNOCKED OVER BUSHES RAISED THE CAR BODY UP. I WAS TAKING A SHOWER AND HEARD THE ENGINE REV UNCONTROLLABLY AND GRAVEL SPRAYING EVERYWHERE. IT WAS LOUD. WE ARE AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR AND CANNOT IN GOOD CONSCIENCE TRADE IT IN OR SELL IT. NO ONE WAS HURT THIS TIME, BUT IF IT DOES IT AGAIN SOMEONE OR MORE COULD BE SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. SHE DID NOT STEP ON THE GAS. IT HAS JUST CAME TO MY ATTENTION THAT THE REAR SEATBELTS ARE POSITIONED TOO HIGH AND TOO FAR FORWARD TO PROTECT CHILDREN SITTING IN A BACKLESS BOOSTER AND FOR SMALLER ADULTS. THE SEATBELTS WOULD NOT PROVIDE ADEQUATE SAFETY IN A CRASH BECAUSE THEY DO NOT EVEN LAY AGAINST THESE PERSONS' BODIES. THEY ARE AROUND THEIR EARS INSTEAD OF THE SHOULDER.
