There are 42 owner-reported brakes complaints for the 2017 Ram 1500in NHTSA's database. These are unverified consumer reports and may not reflect confirmed defects.
Received an error on the dash for Service Electronic Braking System and ABS System. Took to a mechanic and it is a failure of the Anti-Lock Brake Module. This is the same failure they are recalling other Ram trucks for already. I am not sure why the Ram 1500 is not included in the recall also.
I have been told that I need to replace the ABS module. It is causing my trailer brakes not to work, the ABS is not working, and the Anti-Sway is not working. The dealership told me that the part has been back order for over a year. I do not feel that the vehicle is safe to use and we cannot pull our camping trailer with the vehicle. I cannot find a solution other than to trade in the vehicle, which I am not really in the market for a new vehicle. What can I do?
Fortunately the vehicle was not in an accident. About a month ago ABS and traction control lights came on. Took pickup to mechanic with a C2200-49 code. Mechanic said the dealer could only fix the issue. Took to the dealer a couple of weeks ago and am now on a wait list with no indication when a repair can be made because of part availability. This problem seems to be the same as Ram 2500s have and have been recalled. The safety issue is the same.
ABS Module failure, no parts available. National backorder. Part no longer seems supported by RAM.
The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) module in this 2017 Ram 1500 has failed, causing the ABS warning light and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) indicators to remain illuminated. A diagnosis by an authorized dealership on 1/6/2026 confirmed the failure of the ABS module and the need for a total replacement. The dealership informed me that the necessary replacement part is on an indefinite backorder from the manufacturer with no estimated date of arrival. As a result, the vehicle currently lacks functional ABS and stability control. This creates a significant safety risk, as the vehicle may experience wheel lock-up or a loss of steering control during emergency braking or in slippery road conditions. The manufacturer's inability to provide a critical safety component for a modern road vehicle leaves the driver and public at risk. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request.
1-ABS module, yes ABS breaks do not engage properly Yes, Gettel CDJR Punta Gorda FL Only the Dealer that sold me the truck ABS warning light came on a couple days after purchase, after restarting the truck the warning light went off for a few days then came back on and now is on all the time 2-Exhaust manifold, slight exhaust smell from time to time in cab Yes, Gettel CDJR Punta Gorda FL By dealer No warning light only a loud ticking noise from the exhaust manifold area, confirmed by Gettel service department
The ABS / check trailer brakes warning lights started coming on and staying on. Took it to the dealer to get it taken care of and they were no help. They said the ABS module was failing but the replacement part for that has been on back order forever. They said it was okay to drive that I just wouldn't have the antilock brake system. Clearly a safety issue that it appears Ram has no interest in fixing.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned: Electronic/ABS-Anti-Lock Braking System, and is it available for inspection upon request? YES. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? When the light comes on, brakes shake and when on a wet/slippery surface, pushing down on brake pedal, feels like there's no brakes and it's hitting metal. There's been a recall for other 2017-2018 RAM models for the defective Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) that can cause failures in the anti-lock braking (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC), and traction control systems and this seems to be the same issue. It's a Dodge RAM 1500 5.7L Hemi and only has 17,200 miles on it, seems odd to have this issue and not be included in the recall. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? NO Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? NO Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Yes, warning lights show: 1. ABS with a circle around it, 2. a car with 2 wavy tire tracks behind it and a message stating: "Service Electronic Braking System" and "4 Wheel Drive Disabled" light has been going on and off for a couple years
I am writing to formally express my concern and disappointment regarding the unavailability of Mopar part #68295368AC, the ABS Control Module for the 2017 Ram 1500 Big Horn. As a result, both the anti-lock braking system (ABS) and cruise control are inoperative. This creates a serious hazard: without a functioning ABS, the risk of skidding and collisions increases significantly. In some cases, owners have reported vehicles rendered undriveable due to locked brakes caused by this failure. On [XXX], I brought my vehicle to Arrigo Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Fort Pierce, Florida for scheduled 70,000-mile service. During intake, I showed the service advisor the illuminated ABS warning lights on my dashboard (see attached photos). Using On-Board Diagnostic Scanner (OBD service dongle), the advisor confirmed an active error code for internal ABS module failure. The service team performed the routine oil change and provided me a Multi-Point Inspection report. However, the report reflected all “green” results and contained no notation regarding the ABS failure, despite the confirmed error. After leaving the dealership and reviewing the documentation, I immediately returned. At that time, the advisor reconnected the diagnostic tool, again confirmed ABS Module Internal Failure, and explained the part was unavailable nationwide with no timeline for restock. I specifically requested to purchase the ABS module replacement for a total amount of $811.58 so this part would be noted in my service record. The service advisor added a note on the invoice that the Customer is aware that the part is on back order with no ETA at this time. Reference the following documentation dated 08/14/25: 1. Invoice #[XXX] 2. Invoice #[XXX] Arrigo CDJR Fort Pierce Multi-Point Inspection Checklist - incorrectly reflecting all “green/OK” results despite a failed ABS module. DASH POPPED UP TIRE TRACATION NOT WORKING, TOOK TO DEALER AFTER I SCANNED. BRAKE MODULE IS BAD AND WAS TOLD COULD NOT DRIVE UNTIL REPLACED, DUE POSSIBLE LOSS OF CONTROL. ABS BRAKE MODULE PN#68295368AC NEEDS REPLACING. THE DEALER AT THE TIME SAID THE PART WAS BACK ORDERED WITH 5 WAITING FOR OVER 2-3 MONTHS. THAT WAS AUGUST 5TH. I HAVE CHECKED WITH DEALER EVERY WEEK SINCE, ON THE PART AND STILL NO PARTS AND THEY ARE UNSURE OF WHEN THEY WILL RECIEVE THEM. THIS IS MY MAIN SOURCE OF TRANSPROATION AND I CANNOT DRIVE DUE TO POSSIBLE BRAKE FAILURE. I HAVE CALLED OTHER DEALERS AND BEING TOLD THE SAME THING.
Anti-lock Brake Module Internal Electronic Failure. Currently, impossible to replace part due to backorder. Mopar needs to include 2017 Ram 1500 in their ABS Recall for 2019+ models.
ABS Module has internal failure. ABS turned off, Traction and stability control turned off, Cruse control disabled.
Abs module not communicating and is common issue. It is so common thee is a back order on abs module and you can’t obtain one with dealer or online. So Dodge is ok with poee driving around with no abs and it also disables trailer brakes and cruise control but no resolve with manufacture.
The ABS Control Module Malfunction! I have researching about These Units, only to find That This Has Been An Ongoing Problem with ALL Mopar Vehicles For YEARS. Why Has there Not Been a Recall. I have seen The same model that are before and after the 2017 1500 Laramie Crew Cab With the Trailer Package, RAMBOX, along with even more Options. it Does not STOP like It Did Before! I have in the Mutable issues Than NEITER of the Dayton Andrew Dealers could Ever Repair, and at the time the Truck was STILL under Warranty.
Began driving to work, after about 5 minutes the service abs light traction control light and brake light came on with cruise control feature disabled.. all the warning lights would come on and off as I drove. The following day. Took it to the dealership and was told ram is having problems with the ABS module and are all on back order for months.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact stated that the ABS, traction control, and brake warning lights were displayed on the instrument panel. The contact added brake fluid to the brake fluid reservoir; however, the warning lights returned soon afterwards. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer where the braking system was serviced; however, the warning light returned after the repair. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where a diagnostic test showed that the brake module was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was provided a case number. The failure mileage was approximately 47,000.
The contact owns a 2017 RAM 1500. The contact stated that while driving on several occasions at undisclosed speeds, the ABS, Traction Control, and parking brake warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the ABS module was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed that there was an ABS module internal failure and the ABS module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 55,877.
While driving down highway, the ABS light and traction lights came on and cruise control was disabled and brakes was catching as if applying the brakes. After stopping, tried to place the truck in 4WD to no avail. Reset the light by disconnecting the battery, but the warning light for traction came back on and then went off several times when there was no obvious reason.
I have not had any accidents but the vehicle is indicating a fault in the ABS and ESC system
The ABS , traction control, and brake light came on in the dash. Had the vehicle checked and the code came up C2200-49, which indicates the ABS module. Found out that the 2019 models and newer have a recall on the same part. Went to and spoke to 2 different dealerships to try and get fixed or even to buy the part, but was told that this module has been an issue and back ordered for over 3 years. One of the dealerships told me that they aren't even entertaining the option of making an appointment. This is very frustrating and confusing, since my stopping ability could be compromised, especially since I tow a boat quite frequently.
