NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2022 Ram 1500. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
My 2022 Ram 1500 is experiencing a "lurching" or "bumping" forward and backwards when moving from park to drive or reverse. The issue is most apparent after coming to a stop and releasing the brake to accelerate. You can feel a "Bump" sensation as the drivetain re-engages. Have taken to dealer and been told this is "normal operation" but I refuse to accept it. Have been researching this a lot lately and have found many instances of other trucks experiencing the same issue with no fix. Links to examples of others in the same situation below. [XXX] [XXX] The problem lies in the binding of drive shaft slip yoke. Either in the 2 piece driveshaft splines OR at the transfer case. Many are temporarily remedying the issue by applying grease to the splines and this prevents the binding for a temporary amount of time. I was trying to park my vehicle in my garage, where I need to get within 1-2" from the wall for the garage door to close. When I try to release the brake to creep towards the wall, the truck lurches as the binding releases and bumps into the wall. No damage/injury occured but if Ram doesn't address this with a repair or some sort of remedy, someone may be injured. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Engine stalled while driving at low speeds told me shift into park with no warning lights or messages at all. Got it started again and then stalled out again while I was trying to accelerate. I pulled over and it wouldn’t start right away but eventually I was able to get it started back up to drive it home. Could it be a software issue in the PCM
Go to start the truck and the tailgate comes down and clicking in the harness underneath the dash. This could happen going down the road. Not able to see camera when backing up because tailgate automatically goes down. This drains the battery when the truck is completely turned off. Dealer said corrosion and water got in the harness on a 3 year old truck. I'm left paying $1700 out of pocket on a three year old truck.
Turning corner, moving at slow speed. Engine shut off unexpectedly, parking brake auto-applied, truck shifted to park. Stuck sitting in traffic lane, VERY unsafe! Was able to restart truck and disable parking brake and resume driving but this was a very dangerous situation had there been more traffic.
While coming to a stop the truck shut off. Not stop/ start. The engine shut off truck was still in drive, and emergency brake got engaged. Had to put the truck in park then I could start the engine. Then disabled emergency brake.
My 2022 Ram 1500 TRX has recurring safety-related failures of the infotainment system affecting both Uconnect 5 (12” screen) and earlier Uconnect 4 units. These issues are widespread in 2021–2024 Ram TRX and Ram 1500 models and began or worsened after forced over-the-air updates. The primary defect is black-screen failures while driving. When the screen goes black or freezes, the truck loses all functions controlled through the display, including HVAC/defrost, backup camera, vehicle settings, seat controls, and performance gauges. This creates an immediate safety hazard: I cannot adjust climate/defrost, cannot see the required rear-view camera when shifting to reverse, and cannot access key vehicle information. Owners across multiple years consistently report: • Black screens, freezes, and reboots • Loss of HVAC control and dual-zone functions • Backup camera not displaying • Vehicle/Apps tabs failing to open • Uconnect error messages • Smaller, harder-to-read gauges after updates • Wireless CarPlay/Android Auto failures • No option to decline or roll back OTA updates These failures distract the driver, remove access to federally required equipment (rear camera), and eliminate visibility and climate controls that directly affect safe operation. The system becomes unpredictable and unstable despite the vehicle being in motion. My vehicle experiences the same issues, including black screen while driving, loss of HVAC, camera not available, system rebooting, buzzing noise and carplay connection issues. Because this affects essential safety-related controls and visibility, I believe this is a safety defect in Ram/Stellantis Uconnect 4 and Uconnect 5 systems. I request NHTSA open a defect investigation and require Ram to correct these failures.
I am in need of assistance with my most recent purchase of a 2025 Ram Truck with less than 3000 miles of utilization. After driving the vehicle for 45 minutes something didn’t seem right with the transmission. A multitude of error messages popped up on the cluster and the truck ended up in “limp mode” meaning it would not move. The Engine light comes on intermittently and I have legitimate concerns about the reliability and drive-ability of the brand new vehicle. When operating the vehicle in Round-abouts the vehicle looses the ability to accelerate and seems to lose propulsion which is a valid safety concern as well. The vehicle was returned to the Dealer for service and they have not addressed the issue only stating Chrysler Engineering has not yet determined corrective actions.
my abs and traction control light is on, took it in and got the recall done at slimans in amhust ohio, light is still on. they want $300 to test it further. i have seen several posts about the control module failing. i took it in to another garage, they replaced the rear sensor. still didnt fix the problem. i dont have $800 to replace the control modular just to see if it fixes the problem. there needs to be another recall to fix this issue. i can evan use my 4 wheel drive right now.

While looking at preliminary evaluation reports, I noticed there is one for the same problem I've had a few times now. My engine stalled at low speed, put it self in park, applied the parking brake and the warning light for battery problems came on. I had to shut the truck down and restart it. This is at least the 3rd time it's happened. This is going to kill someone eventually. It's always happened to me after I came to a complete stop at a stop sign and am moving in to an intersection. I'm stuck there for a few seconds while cars are coming at me. Once they came very close to hitting me. The truck stayed in this mode until I got home and shut it off. I turned it back on the next day and it has been fine since. The photo I attached is of the low voltage notification the most recent time it occurred.
2022 Ram 1500 5.7L eTorque Stalling mild-hybrid HEMI would shut off unexpectedly while traveling at low speeds, prompting the vehicle to shift into park and engage the emergency brake. intermittent ability to restart. the battery fault symbol lighting up.
Both Exhaust Manifolds/Bolts Had to be repaired, one manifold was warped and one cracked. Concerned about the risk and symptoms of CO poisoning. Took it to a repair shop who confirmed and repaired the vehicle. Have spoken with 3 other people who have had similar issues on their trucks.

The radio in my truck keeps displaying a message about my uconnect not working and to seen an authorized dealer. This message blocks my view of my backup camera as well as creates a distraction while driving. After this message appears, my assist and SOS buttons no longer function as intended. The dealer has replaced multiple components related to this issue and have not resolved the problem. A substantial amount of people online also have this same complaint.
I experienced a complete electrical system "shut down" or failure, on November 29, 2025 while driving from Stillwater to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. It is available for inspection. However, I have replaced the battery as recommended by Quail Springs Automotive to get it back on the road again. I was driving my daughter home, and was making a right-hand turn off of Memorial onto north May avenue when the electrical system failure occurred and the steering and brakes failed causing the truck to jump the meridian and come to rest in the inside lane of northbound traffic just beyond the intersection. Oklahoma City police were called to provide assistance and mitigate oncoming traffic. The battery light came on and the Stop/Start function light came on at some point in the trip, but I'm not sure of the sequence or timing. The whole experience scared both of us to the core.
eTorque system is failing. Last week when stopped for a red light my truck stalled and would not advance when I applied the accelerator once the light turned green. My vehicle is supposed to ¨wake up¨upon touching the accelerator after going on ¨sleep mode¨whenever stopped. This did not happen and I was nearly rear ended by the vehicle behind me when my vehicle did not engage properly when applying the accelerator to move forward.
The vehicle had been in operation for approximately 10 minutes. While driving at highway speed on a downhill arterial road with a curve at the bottom, the infotainment system switched from the active screen to a small banner advertisement for complimentary Sirius XM radio service. This banner advertisement disabled all infotainment based actions including the previously displayed information, radio control, climate control, navigation guidance etc. Powering off and powering on via the easy to reach power button did not clear the system state. The only way to clear was to touch the small dim "X" button on gray background which was on the upper right hand (but below corner) portion of the screen. This was extremely difficult to locate and was completely invisible until after the road curved, casting enough shadow on the screen to make out the low contrast input. Having an unexpected superfluous pop up with a difficult to dismiss mechanism which prevents necessary in motion adjustments such as receiving driving guidance, muting audio, or activating defrost systems is distracting and dangerous to myself, and potentially other occupants, as well as to other vehicles and/or pedestrians which may have been present. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacture, police, insurance, etc. No other warning lamps or messages associated with this issue were displayed.
i was driving my truck in a parking lot going roughly 10MPH when the truck slammed on the Emergency brakes. the check Engine light started flashing as well as truck going into power save mode. I've had the truck checked and looked at at a ram dealer in Barstow CA for the same issue. they said they fixed it. how ever the same issue just happened again i filed a complaint that time as i was almost rear ended reference number 11688552 on 19 September 2025
NHTSA Vehicle Safety Complaint — Date of Incident: November 23, 2025 Vehicle: 2022 Ram 1500- E-Torque VIN: [XXX] Location: Battlefield Blvd, Chesapeake, VA Description of the Safety Issue: On November 23, 2025, my wife was driving our 2022 Ram 1500 E-Torque with our three older children on the way to the park. While traveling on Battlefield Blvd in Chesapeake, VA, the steering wheel suddenly locked up without warning. At the same moment, a red warning light appeared on the dashboard with an icon that resembled a steering wheel. The steering wheel froze and pulled the truck sharply to the right, causing her to lose control. The vehicle then veered off the road and crashed into an electrical pole. There were no prior issues or warnings before this sudden failure. This was a complete and unexpected loss of steering control, creating an extremely dangerous situation that put my family at serious risk. Injuries / Damage: •Vehicle sustained front-end damage from striking the pole. •My wife is currently suffering with pain in the back of her neck area. Additional Notes: I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this issue, as it appears to be a significant safety defect that could potentially affect other Ram 1500 E-Torque vehicles. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I was stopped at a light and my dash light started beeping and flashing at random and the truck just shut off. My parking break got randomly engaged and the truck went back to P mode even though it was in drive prior. I turned the truck back on and the break wouldn’t release and I couldn’t turn the knob to drive. Had to turn it off again and after about 2 minute it left me drive again. Second time and I just bought this truck.
I own a 2022 Ram 1500 Bighorn with approximately 84,000 miles. This vehicle has repeatedly experienced a severe safety defect that began around 20,000 miles. On four separate occasions, the truck has suddenly decelerated in traffic without warning, would not shift out of gear, and in some cases would not shut off even when pressing the start/stop button. During the most recent incident, I was unable to pull over safely because the powertrain locked up, putting myself and surrounding drivers at extreme risk. My wife and I as well as a good Samaritan stranger almost got ran over while checking to see what's wrong. Police showed up and called for a tow truck, since the incident was happening in a state hwy. Each time I brought the truck to the dealership, I showed photos and videos of the issue, but the dealership claimed they could not reproduce it. Now the dealership is telling me I must pay $1,127 just for them to look inside the transmission, and potentially $2,800–$11,000 for repairs. This is a safety-critical defect that began well within the warranty period and has progressively worsened. A sudden loss of power and inability to control the vehicle is dangerous and could result in a crash, injury, or death. I believe this issue should be investigated for a recall or manufacturer responsibility due to multiple reports of similar failures in Ram 1500 models. I have videos of the incidents in 2025 at 80k miles, and a video in 2024 at 43k miles that show the live incidents.
Back window of 2022 Dodge Ram is improperly sealed during manufacturing, and water is seeping into backseat area. Safety Concerns: 1. Water seepage: Indicates the rear window seal was not properly installed or has failed prematurely. 2. Glass stress: Continuous water pressure and poor sealing can weaken the bond between the glass and frame, increasing the risk of cracking or shattering. 3. Passenger safety: If the window breaks under stress, rear passengers could be exposed to sharp glass fragments. This was a recall on older Dodge Ram models and needs to happen in 2022 models as well.
Rear Defroster overheated which caused it to burn my rear window in my truck and shattered my rear window. The window was directly behind my son’s car seat, thank goodness he wasn’t in the vehicle when it blew. I’ve found multiple instances of this issue happening across social media pages Ram looked at it today and said it isn’t their issue. The only warning I got was the smell of burning electrical 5 minutes before it blew.
The contact owned a 2022 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving, the engine compartment caught fire. The contact also stated that the vehicle lost motive power, and multiple warning lights illuminated. The contact reported that the entire vehicle became engulfed in flames, and the fire was extinguished by the local fire department. A police report was not filed. The contact did not sustain any physical injuries but experienced smoke inhalation and a nosebleed; however, no medical attention was provided. The dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was opened. The approximate failure mileage was 82,000.
The factory spare tire lowering system port does not work with the factory provided jack tools as the manual states. The tools do not connect and therefore the spare tire cannot be lowered. There are other similar reports online for this generation of ram vehicles. This would be a safety issue had I discovered this on the highway following a flat tire.
While driving at low speeds in downtown traffic with the automatic stop/start system active, I stopped at a red light. The system engaged and shut off the engine as expected. However, when I attempted to accelerate, the truck stalled. The gear shift unexpectedly moved from Drive to Park, and the parking brake activated. I applied the brake and restarted the engine, but had to manually disengage the parking brake before continuing. At the next red light, the stop/start system again shut off the engine. Upon attempting to drive, the truck stalled a second time. I restarted the engine, but this time the auto stop alert and battery warning lights illuminated. The truck moved forward very slowly, appeared to struggle shifting into gear, and then suddenly lurched forward. I had to quickly apply the brakes to regain control. The vehicle is currently at the dealership undergoing inspection for a faulty tire pressure sensor and this auto stop system problem. This is the third time the truck has experienced the auto stop issue in the past two years. The problem has not been able to be replicated at the dealership and no repairs have been made.
The engine shut off while driving today. I was turning a corner at slow speed, and the engine shut off, shifted into PARK, applied the emergency brake, and shows a battery warning on the dashboard. I have not taken the vehicle to the dealer, as it just occurred this morning.
The pinion and carrier bearings failed on a less than 3 year old truck with 66k miles. This is way to early for this type of repair and was just out of warranty. This could have caused the truck to lock up while driving possibly injuring myself and other drivers. The noise caused from this was heard months before but was believed to be tire related.
At approximately 66k and even thousands of miles before this the rear axle bearings failed and needed to be replaced. This is much sooner than a component like this should fail and oddly just outside of the warranty period. Although no safety incident happened, it very well could have locked up the rear axle putting myself and others in danger.
Tailgate opens while driving. Pops open and cargo is lost.
my 2022 Ram Laramie 1500 is experiencing repeated issues with the Uconnect 8.4 system going into a mode where the screens continually change resolution which can not only be distracting but not allow me to use the controls on the screen, this also results in my rear view camera freezing or going back screen while trying to back up losing the visibility.. this has been happening for several months. to correct the issue i have to turn the truck off and exit the vehicle. return a short time later and start the vehicle and the issue is cleared for a few days until it does it again. its almost like its trying to install an update and failing causing it to "freak out" then it will seem to try again in a few days. sometimes if i am unable to stop and shut the truck off i have to turn off the screen to avoid distraction from the constantly changing screen especially at night this is very distracting.
I would prefer that the vehicle be bought by RAM due to the unsafe issues ie . (the vehicle stopped at a all of the sudden while driving ,the emergency brake activated while driving, the transmission gave out and would not accelerate while driving on the highway, my wife and I could have been killed.
The vehicle shuts off and throws it in emergency park while im driving or slowing down and will stall this can cause a major accident for me and my kids.
I own a 2022 Ram 1500 with a 5.7-liter V8 equipped with the eTorque (mild hybrid) system. On October 24, 2025, at approximately 1:30 p.m., I was driving southbound on I-25 when the battery warning light illuminated, followed by several other warning indicators on the dashboard. Shortly thereafter, the dashboard went completely dark, and I suddenly lost power steering. At that point, the truck was moving only on momentum. While I was able to brake and activate my emergency hazard lights, the vehicle eventually came to a stop on its own in a lane in the middle of the highway. Fortunately, traffic was moving slowly due to it being a Friday afternoon. This was a frightening and dangerous experience, particularly due to the sudden loss of power steering. I could have collided with another vehicle, or another vehicle could have struck me. I feared for my safety during this incident. The truck was eventually towed to a nearby Ram dealership, where the battery was replaced. I was informed that the battery had failed and, as a result, caused the entire vehicle to shut down. Approximately two months later, I began hearing a ticking noise from the engine—commonly referred to as the “Chrysler tick.” I had to return the vehicle to the dealership for a second time. Ram ultimately replaced the engine; however, I was required to pay approximately $3,000 out of pocket for the repair. Given these serious and costly issues, I am no longer confident in the reliability of the brand.
The low voltage light came on. Voltage was at 11.5V. I continued driving. Voltage dropped below 9V. I pulled into a parking lot. At low speed, the power steering shut down, braking assist, parking sensors, and other functions shut down and the vehicle stalled. Vehicle automatically shifted to Park and engaged the electronic parking brake. Car would no re-start and was towed to the dealer. Car is currently at the dealer with a diagnosis to replace the 12V battery as a first step. I am concerned to drive the vehicle based on similar consumer complaints related to PE24018. If root cause is not addressed (eg, only replacing 12V battery), I feel my safety is at risk if the vehicle shuts down again in a situation where I was unable to pull off the road before the vehicle shut itself down due to low voltage.
Dodge has a "safety" feature to keep the vehicle from driving off if the driver exits the vehicle with it in gear. The safety mechanism detects the seatbelt undone, the driver seat sensor and the driver door open. If someone gets out of the vehicle while it is in Drive, the parking brake is automatically applied, the engine put in park then powered off. My problem is this "safety" mechanism has been faulty from day one and the vehicle randomly puts the parking break on or turns off the engine, while I am in the driver seat, with my seatbelt on, and the driver door shut. This has left me stranded for several minutes in various places including half-in dangerous intersections. Dodge denies there is any problem and refuses to look at it. When I take it in they just park it in their back lot for 3-4 weeks without ever moving it then say it all checked out fine. I have been complaining for two years. I recently found a law firm with pending litigation for this issue. https://www.newsom.law/ram-stalling.html#:~:text=%E2%80%8BNewsom%20Law%20PLC%20is,without%20warning%20while%20in%20motion
Possibly intake mainifold/housing etc. oil is running down on top of the transmission making it look like the transmission is leaking I only have 68224 miles on it and I just bought it in much with 57000 miles on it is this a recall
On September 11, I remember because of the date, I was coming up to traffic on Flamingo heading east to Nellis Rd. As I started to brake the truck suddenly accelerated rapidly. I slammed on the brakes and barely stopped in time to not rear end the car ahead of me. I put it into park, then put it into drive and I made it home. This happened again yesterday October 6 as I came through the Carls drive through. Had to slam on my brakes again to stop.
Throttle stuck at 4500 RPM. Had to stand on brakes and turn key off. Was backing into my back yard and almost hit the house. From dead stop pushed gas petal to back up and it took off at a high rate of speed.
Complaint Summary My 2022 Ram 1500 has a recurring safety issue where the engine shuts off unexpectedly after coming to a complete stop and then attempting to accelerate. This typically occurs at stop signs. When it happens, the dashboard flashes warnings, the emergency brake sometimes engages, and the truck prompts me to “apply brake and push start button.” I’ve nearly been rear-ended due to the sudden loss of power. Safety Concerns This issue poses a serious safety risk. The truck stalls in traffic, leaving me vulnerable to collisions. The unpredictability of the failure makes it difficult to drive with confidence, especially when transporting my family. Request for Action I urge NHTSA to investigate this issue further and work with Stellantis (Ram’s parent company) to identify the root cause and issue a recall or software fix. Owners deserve a safe and reliable vehicle, and this defect undermines that trust.
Just driving car simple road driving, never been off road. ABS light traction control module dashboard lights come on as faulty. Four-wheel-drive will not engage, cruise control will not work. Brought it to the dealer hooked up to a machine faulty speed sensor. Initial repair of speed sensor was performed however, ABS lights , TCM lights are still on, four-wheel-drive and cruise control will still not work.
Over the three years of ownership we have had four occurrences of random stalling when taking left turns, where the engine stalls out, and the emergency parking brake engages. This can easily be a life threatening occurrence as it happens in the middle of the intersection during the left turn and it takes time to confirm the car is turned off, then need to disengage the emergency brake and THEN restart the car, all while stuck in the middle of an intersection. We reported this to multiple dealerships, the one we purchased at and the ones giving us service. The Joe Ricci's Marlette Chrysler Dodge dealership ran the diagnostic test and did not find any error messages. This problem keeps occurring and needs a recall before more people our hurt and/or killed.
The vehicle stalled randomly and applied the emergency break the and shut the truck off in the middle of the road I had to wait almost 10 minutes for the truck to even turn back on, this almost caused an accident luckily, the car behind me wasn’t following too close.
2022 Hemi eTorque cause sudden engine stalling while driving, followed by the truck automatically applying the parking brake and shifting into park. Tow driver couldn't get the truck on the flat bed, had to drag onto the tow truck and drag off the tow truck. Couldn't get it out of park or get the brakes to release. We could have died! No part available for 45 days so I can't upload a repair invoice as of yet.
When driving down the road, randomly the vehicle will derate and allow for 20 mph max for a short time, at times during this "derate" section, the vehicle will apply the park brake and shut off. I took the issue to the dealership, advised me to replace injector. Replaced one injector, brought home had same issue, over fueling on 2 separate injectors, installed all 7 remaining injectors (at my expense). Issue still arises. Brought back to the repairing dealer, plugged computer in, different error code arose, made an appointment to bring back on the following week. Drove 2 miles down the highway, unit would not drive over "limp mode" Service manager drove it confirming issues, had loaner car for several weeks, tried trading it in, dealership would offer me half of what paid 6 months prior. After some research, this is a known issue with this model vehicle and there is a "stop sale" on the part. Gave loaner vehicle back to dealership, continue to drive my Ram 1500 with known issue and random shutting down. Work order still open at dealership, Minnesota Truck Headquarters in St Cloud MN 320-230-6064. Cole in Service is the contact, he has been very great to work with.
Water leaking into the vehicle over the rear window on 9/6/2025 and 9/7/2025. Vehicle was brought to dealer on 9/8/2025 and a service date was scheduled for 9/15/25. Vehicle was water tested and confirmed to a have a crack in the backlite glass Frame. Service tech stated that the rear backlite glass assembly requires replacement and that the 3 year number-to-bumber warranty does Not cover it. Service tech reminded me that this should be repaired soon because the the rear glass may pop out.
The dealership is installing used brake parts that could cause the brakes to fail. This vehicle will be up for sale to where anybody can buy it.
The vehicle components like the AC , front windows, The touch screen monitor, and the radio won’t turn on . Shows a lettering “ 115V Cargo power outlet on “ on the . A non-functional A/C can dangerously affect a driver's physical and mental state, while a broken backup camera increases the risk of backover accidents due to a lack of visibility. Both issues compromise driving safety by impairing a driver's awareness and ability to operate the vehicle. Problem has been confirmed by dealer . No vehicle hasn’t been inspected. Messages said “115V Cargo power outlet on “ and appeared on 31st of August.

The EPS electronic power steering failed while I was driving. At that point I couldn't turn left or right the vehicle would only go straight. Thankfully I was on a local road and was able to stop before i hit anything.
