TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 SATURN OUTLOOK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT UPON INSPECTION, HE NOTICED THAT THE PASSENGER FRONT HEAD LAMP WAS INOPERATIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, AND A TECHNICIAN CONCLUDED THAT WIRING HARNESS HAD MELTED AND CAUSED THE BULB TO FAIL. HE THEN ADDED THAT THE OTHER HEAD LAMP WOULD SOON FAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT AN EXPENSE OF$ 360.00. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 42,000. UPDATED 10/27/09. *LJ UPDATED 10/29/09.*JB
THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE SHUTS OFF AND THE STEERING COLUMN LOCKS UP. THERE IS A RAPID DECLINE IN SPEED AND THE VOLT METER DROPS TO LESS THEN 11. I HAVE TO HOPE THAT MY VEHICLE IS NOT HIT BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND THAT I DO NOT GUIDE THE VEHICLE INTO SOMETHING THAT WILL CAUSE DAMAGE. THE 2008 SATURN OUTLOOK IS AN UNSAFE VEHICLE. I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE SHUTTING OFF DURING OPERATION ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHILE DRIVING IN CITY TRAFFIC, HIGHWAYS AND AT TOLL LOCATIONS INCLUDING BRIDGES AND TUNNELS. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO SEVERAL DEALERSHIPS AND CONTACTED GM TO NO AVAIL. IF THEY CANNOT REPLICATE THE ISSUE, THEN THE ISSUE DOES NOT EXIST. *TR
RIGHT LOW BEAM HEAD LIGHT HARNESS MELTED.DEALER REPLACED HARNESS.18 MONTHS LATER THE LEFT SIDE HEAD LIGHT HARNESS MELTED AND THE VEHICAL IS OUT OF WARRANTY. *TR
I HAVE A 2008 SATURN OUTLOOK THAT AROUND 25000 MILES STARTED LEAKING WATER FROM THE SUN ROOF, WINDSHIELD PILLARS AND HEADLINER. THE WATER LEAK ALSO CAUSED THE BRAKE SWITCH TO CORRODE AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHT AND ALARM TO CONTINUOUSLY GO OFF. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT IDENTIFIED A RECALL FOR SUNROOM DRAINS THAT TO CORRECT THE ISSUE. ABOUT 3 WEEKS LATER WATER STARTED LEAKING INTO THE VEHICLE AGAIN AND IT HAS BEEN ONGOING EVER SINCE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN BACK TO 3 DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS A TOTAL OF 5 TIMES FOR THE WATER LEAK AND EACH TIME THE LEAK WOULD GO AWAY FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS OR SO. THE VEHICLE SMELLS FROM THE CONTINUOUS LEAKING WATER. I WAS ADVISED THAT ONCE THE LEAK WAS TOTALLY REPAIRED THEY WOULD WORK WITH ME TO REPLACE THE DAMAGED CARPETS AND HEADLINER. AROUND OCTOBER 2009 THE SATURN CUSTOMER SERVICE OFFERED ME A COMPLETE BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY TO CONTINUE COVERAGE ON MY VEHICLE AND SO THEY COULD WORK ON THE LEAK. IN JANUARY 2010 THE WATER LEAK RE-APPEARED BUT ALL OF THE SATURN DEALERSHIPS HAD CLOSED DOWN AND GM HAD NOT DETERMINED WHAT DEALERSHIP I SHOULD USE. I WAS ADVISED IN FEBRUARY 2010 TO USE A LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP FOR ALL FUTURE REPAIRS, I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THIS DEALERSHIP FOR THE WATER LEAK AND ANOTHER ISSUE FOR REPAIR AND I WAS ADVISED THAT THE WATER LEAK WAS NOT A COVERED REPAIR EVEN THOUGH IT WAS AN ONGOING DOCUMENTED ISSUE. I WAS GIVEN A SUPPORT NUMBER TO CALL. WHEN I CALLED THE NUMBER AND OPEN UP ANOTHER CUSTOMER SUPPORT TICKET I WAS ADVISED THAT I WOULD BE CONTACTED IN 24-48 HOURS. TWO WEEKS LATER I RECEIVED A CALL BACK AND, I WAS ADVISED THAT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER WATER LEAKS AND THEY WOULD NOT HELP ME WITH MY ONGOING WATER LEAK. I WAS ALSO ADVISED THAT NO REPAIRS WOULD BE DONE FOR ANY OF THE WATER DAMAGE AND THAT I WOULD BE CHARGED AT THE END OF MY LEASE FOR ALL OF THE WATER DAMAGE. I HAVE A LEAKING VEHICLE THAT SMELL S AND THE MANUFACTURE REFUSES TO HELP ME. WHAT CAN BE DONE? *TR
2008 SATURN OUTLOOK WIREHARNESS FOR LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT BURNT AND MELTED TO THE HEADLIGHT. MELTED THE CAP THAT PROTECTED HALOGEN BULB AND THE CONNECTION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 SATURN OUTLOOK. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AS IT RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO RECUR INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR, ALL OF THE GAUGES WOULD DROP TO A READING OF ZERO AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SEVERAL DEALERS BUT THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DUPLICATED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,994.
DURING A SNOW STORM MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED WORKING. WENT TO DEALERSHIP AND WIPER LINKAGE BECAME DETACHED FROM MOTOR SHAFT CAUSING IT TO BECOME INOPERATIVE. *TR
SATURN 2008 OUTLOOK STEERING ISSUES. LOUD THUMPING/CLUNKING/GRINDING NOISE HEARD WHEN MAKING A TURN. HAD IT AT THE DEALER 3 TIMES NOW, THEY CAN'T DUPLICATE THE ISSUES SO NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO REPAIR. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE CAR SKIPS WHEN TRYING TO TURN, I NEVER KNOW WHEN THIS IS GOING TO HAPPEN, BUT IT IS SCARY WHEN IT DOES. I AM WAITING FOR IT NOT TO MAKE THE TURN AND THE RESULT BEING AN ACCIDENT AND INJURIES. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ ONLINE, THERE ARE A LOT OF ISSUES WITH THE STEERING AND IN MOST CASES THE CAR BEING RETURNED AFTER MULTIPLE TRIPS TO DEALERSHIP WITHOUT REPAIR AND STATING THE PROBLEM CAN NOT BE DUPLICATED. MY DEALERSHIP HAS SUGGESTED WE OPEN A CASE WITH GM. LAST TIME OF STEERING ISSUE WAS 3/21/09, JUST GOT CAR BACK TODAY WITH NO REPAIR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 SATURN OUTLOOK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, THE AIR BAG WARNING SENSOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE AIR BAG SENSORS WERE REPROGRAMMED AND THE SENSOR LIGHTS WERE DEACTIVATED BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE BUT NO SOLUTION WAS OFFERED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 14V118000(AIR BAGS). THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD EXPERIENCED THE SAME DEFECT AS LISTED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000. KMJ
I OWN A 2008 SATURN OUTLOOK XR AWD. I HAVE 56,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. EARLIER THIS YEAR THE PASSENGER LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT STARTED GOING ON AND OFF. AFTER A WEEK IT STOPPED WORKING. I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL SATURN DEALERSHIP (BEFORE THEY CLOSED) THE TECHNICIANS LOOKED AT IT AND DECIDED IT WAS A SAFETY CONCERN AS THE WIRING HARNESS FOR THE HEADLIGHT WAS MELTED SO THEY REPLACED BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER HARNESSES AND BULBS. A FEW MONTHS LATER THE PASSENGER LIGHT DID THE SAME THING AND I WAS ABLE TO GET AT THE HARNESS AND SAW THAT IT WAS BLACK AND WIRES WERE MELTED. I REPLACED THE LIGHT AND IT WORKED FOR ANOTHER MONTH BEFORE BURNING OUT. I TOOK IT INTO THE GM DEALER, THE TECHNICIAN LOOKED AT IT AND JUST REPLACED THE BULB, IT HAS SINCE BURNED OUT AGAIN AND THE WIRING HARNESS IS STILL BLACKENED AND MELTED AND KEEPS BURNING OUT LIGHTS. *TR
I HAVE A 2008 SATURN OUTLOOK WHICH I PURCHASED NEW. I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE PROBLEMS WITH THE FRONT HEADLIGHT WIRING HARNESS BURNING OUT/MELTING. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE TO BOTH HEADLIGHTS. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED I WAS ABLE TO HAVE THE DEALER (GM AT THAT TIME) FIX THE PROBLEM UNDER WARRANTY. THE LAST 3 TIMES I HAVE HAD TO PAY FOR THIS MYSELF SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. GM WAS WILLING TO FIX IT, BUT NOT COVER THE COST, SO I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL REPAIR SHOP BECAUSE IT WAS LESS EXPENSIVE THERE. *KB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 SATURN OUTLOOK. THE CONTACT STARTED THE IGNITION AND THE "CHECK ENGINE" WARNING LIGHT INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE WARNING INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. IN ADDITION, THE FUEL GAUGE INDICATOR DISPLAYED " EMPTY FUEL" AT ANY GIVEN FUEL LEVEL CAPACITY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE FAILURES WERE CONTRIBUTED TO THE CAM SHAFT SENSOR AND FUEL LEVEL SENSOR. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED FOR THE MALFUNCTION. THE CONTACT HAD CONCERNS OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 25,000.
HAVE REPLACED PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT BULB 3 TIMES IN TWO YEARS. AFTER LAST REPLACEMENT LASTED TWO DAYS I GOT UP INSIDE THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY (AN ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TASK) TO SEE THAT THE WIRING INSIDE THE SOCKET WAS MELTED AND BURNT AWAY. I SUSPECT THAT THE WIRE SHIELDING LEADING TO THE SOCKET WAS NEVER THERE, FROM THE FACTORY. IT APPEARED THAT THE WIRE WAS LEFT UNSHIELDED AND ARCD OUT AGAINST THE METAL SOCKET RETAINER. THE PLASTIC COMPONENTS ARE ALL BUT MELTED AWAY FROM THIS GROUNDING. I WENT TO THE GM DEALER I MADE PURCHASE FROM AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THERE IS A "SERVICE ADVISORY", BUT NO RECALL. FURTHER, I'VE WAS TOLD THAT THEY ARE SEEING "A TON" OF THESE. I WAS TOLD OF DISASSEMBLY OF THE FRONT END TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY. LASTLY, THE COST MIGHT EXCEED $300. THIS IS AN UNREASONABLE EXPENSE FOR SOMETHING THAT SHOULD BE AS SIMPLE AS CHANGING A BULB. I AM LEFT WITH NO RECOURSE BUT TO ATTEMPT TO REPAIR THE WIRING MYSELF WITH THE BEST PARTS I CAN FIND. I CAN ONLY WONDER WHAT THE OTHER HEADLIGHT IS DOING UNDER THERE. I FEAR THAT THE FIRE HAZARD IS REAL AND TANGIBLE. I HAD UNDERSTOOD THAT SATURN'S REPUTATION WAS OUTSTANDING FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND SUPERIOR PRODUCT ENGINEERING. BUT WE LOYAL SATURN OWNERS SEEM TO BE ON OUR OWN NOW. AT LEAST THOSE OF US WITH MILEAGE OVER 36,000 MILES. WHAT I WOULD LIKETO SEE IS GM STAND BEHIND THIS PRODUCT WITH SUCH AN IMPORTANT COMPONENT AS HEADLIGHT SAFETY AND POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 SATURN OUTLOOK. THERE IS AN ODOR INSIDE THE VEHICLE THAT MAKES THE DRIVER AND PASSENGERS ILL. THE CONTACT IS CONCERNED THAT THE ODOR MAY DERIVE FROM A TOXIC SOURCE. THE DEALER CANNOT SMELL THE ODOR; THEREFORE, IT STILL REMAINS. THE CONTACT FOUND PAPER AIR FRESHENERS INSIDE THE VEHICLE AND WONDERED IF THE DEALER WAS AWARE OF THE ODOR PRIOR TO SELLING THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 680 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 5,100.
SPECIFICALLY, THE PERFORMANCE OF THE TRANSMISSION MY SATURN 2008 OUTLOOK HAS NEVER BEEN SATISFACTORY. ALTOGETHER IT'S INCREDIBLY SLUGGISH, GIVING A JERKY, PULLING FEEL AND TAKES 45-60 SECONDS TO SPEED THE CAR UP PAST 50 MPH. THERE HAVE BEEN TIMES WHEN I CAME DANGEROUSLY CLOSE TO BEING HIT BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC. ADDITIONALLY, THE STABILITRAK LIGHT WARNING COMES ON WHEN IT SHOULDN'T. THIS LIGHT IS GENERALLY FOLLOWED BY A WARNING THE TRACTION CONTROL IS OFF WHEN IT ISN'T. I HAVE COMPLAINED TO 2 OF GM'S DEALERS (SATURN AND CHEVROLET) FOR THE LAST 3 YEARS ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION. THEY HAVE ALL TOLD ME THAT THERE NOTHING WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION--UNTIL THINGS GOT BAD ENOUGH THAT THE TRANSMISSION STOPPED WORKING ALTOGETHER, AND I WAS STUCK ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. RALEIGH'S DOWNTOWN GM DEALER FINALLY HAD NO OTHER CHOICE THAN TO TAKE THE TRANSMISSION APART AND DISCOVERED THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM. SO THEY THOUGHT. EVER SINCE I PICKED UP THE CAR FROM THIS REPAIR, I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEMS. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE GM DEALERSHIP. AGAIN, THEY PURPORTED THEY COULD NOT "SIMULATE" THE PROBLEM; THEREFORE, IN THEIR MIND, THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. I'M REMINDED AT THIS POINT THAT THIS IS THE SAME THING GM'S DEALERS HAD SAID BEFORE THE TRANSMISSION FINALLY GAVE WAY. THROUGH THE INTERNET, I UNDERSTAND THAT THERE ARE MANY OTHERS WHO REPORT PROBLEMS WITH GM'S TRANSMISSION ON THE OUTLOOK. LIKE MY COUNTERPARTS, I WOULD APPRECIATE A RESOLUTION THAT INCLUDES GM'S OWNING UP TO THIS PROBLEM AND RESOLVING TO FIX IT ONCE AND FOR ALL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 SATURN OUTLOOK. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED SHE NOTICED THE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE BUT THE COMPUTER SYSTEM WAS RESET TO CLEAR THE AIR BAG LIGHT. THE FAILURE RECURRED FOUR TIMES. AFTER EACH FAILURE THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE VARIOUS REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,241. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 SATURN OUTLOOK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED THE VEHICLE WOULD LOSE POWER AND DOWNSHIFT WITH AN ABNORMAL INCREASE IN RPMS. THE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES. THE DEALER UPDATED THE TRANSMISSION MODULE BUT THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO LOSE POWER WITH A SIGNIFICANT LOSS OF FUEL MILEAGE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000. ..UPDATED 07/12/12 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE SENSOR CAMSHAFT, CYLINDER HEAD, BATTERY, WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR, AIR BAG WIRING HARNESS, POWER STEERING RACK AND GEAR, FRONT PADS AND ROTORS, GASKETS FOR INTAKE MANIFOLD, GASKET FOR REAR VALVE COVER, RIGHT FRONT STRUT, BOTH STRUT MOUNTS, ENGINE MOUNTS, LEFT FRONT STABILIZER LINK, HEADLIGHT HARNESS, TIMING BELT COVER SEAL, EXHAUST STUD, POWER STEERING PUMP, HOSE AND CLAMP, ALL HAD TO BE REPLACED. UPDATED 10/02/12
ONGOING INTERMITTENT PROBLEM WITH FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG. DASHBOARD "SERVICE AIR BAG" WARNING LIGHT ACTIVATED. FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT SHOWS 'OFF' EVEN WHEN AN ADULT IS SITTING IN THE SEAT WITH THE SEATBELT ON. SATURN DEALER FINALLY REPAIRED PROBLEM AFTER 4 SERVICE VISITS. DEALER REPLACED SEAT CONNECTOR, AIRBAG WIRING HARNESS, & PASSENGER PRESENCE MODULE ASSEMBLY. PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE RESOLVED. *TR
2008 SATURN OUTLOOK XR W/DUAL SUNROOFS LEAKS WATER THROUGH INSIDE CORNER PILLARS, WHICH HOUSE SEAT BELT AND AIR BAGS. THE WATER COULD COMPROMISE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE AIR BAGS AND THE SEATBELT RETRACTORS. IT WILL ALSO LEAK ONTO DRIVERS FLOOR, THROUGH ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS, WHICH COULD CAUSE LOSS OF FUNCTIONS. MULTIPLE REPORTS HAVE BEEN MADE. MANY OWNERS HAVE REPORTED AS MANY AS 6 OR MORE VISITS TO HAVE THE CONDITION CORRECTED UNDER WARRANTY, TO NO AVAIL. GM APPARENTLY STONEWALLS COMPLAINANTS UNTIL THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED, AND REFUSES TO FIND A PERMANENT FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM. PROBLEM HAS BEEN ONGOING IN SATURN OUTLOOK AND OTHER SIMILAR GM MODELS SINCE 2007. WATER ENTERS THE ROOF, AND RUNS TO THE LOWEST CORNER OF THE VEHICLE, DEPENDING ON HOW IT IS PARKED. ALTHOUGH SATURN IS NOW DEFUNCT, THERE REMAIN MANY OF THESE VEHICLES IN USE. GM SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO DEVELOP A PERMANENT FIX, AND RECALL ALL POTENTIALLY AFFECTED VEHICLES TO CORRECT THIS DANGEROUS ONGOING CONDITION. *LN
WHEN IN DRIVE IT ROLLS BACK WHEN STOOPED IF THERE IS ANY ELEVATION. IT IS NOT CONSISTENT SO ROLL BACK IS UNEXPECTED CREATING POTENTIAL ACCIDENTS. SATURN CLAIMS THIS DEFECT TO BE IN ALL OUTLOOK AND NOTHING WILL DONE ABOUT IT. *TR
WANT TO PURSUE THE "LEMON LAW" ON A 2008 SATURN OUTLOOK. VEHICLE HAS ONLY 20K MILES ON IT BUT HAS BEEN TO DEALER 5X FOR REPAIR OF AIR BAG SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE MANUAL CLEARLY STATES IN THE WARRANTY THAT WHEN THE SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON IT NEEDS TO BE SERVICED BY THE DEALER. THE ISSUE IS ONE OF SAFETY IN THAT THE AIR BAGS MAY NOT DEPLOY WHEN NEEDED AND/OR CAN DEPLOY WITHOUT INCIDENT. SAID VEHICLE WAS IN 2X THE MONTH OF APRIL 2010, MAKING IT THE 5TH TIME FOR REPAIRS ON THE AIR BAG SYSTEM. I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE CAR MUCH LESS TRANSPORTING OTHER CHILDREN UNDER THESE CIRCUMSTANCES. *TR

FUSE IS GOOD, NO CONNECTIVITY BETWEEN HARNESS AND LIGHT, NO POWER AT END OF HARNESS. THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM. SATURN IS OUT OF BUSINESS, DEALER REFUSES TO FIX WITHOUT CHARGING A SMALL FORTUNE OF MONEY. LOW BEAMS ARE STILL OUT. *TT
2008 SATURN OUTLOOK HEADLIGHT SOCKET MELTING / BURNT. ONE WOULD HAVE TO ASSUME THAT THE 22 GAUGE WIRE USED FOR THE LOW BEAN HEADLIGHT CIRCUIT IS INADEQUATE. THE FIRST LOW BEAM LIGHT LASTED 45K MILES, I HAVE NOW REPLACE THE SAME LOW BEAM 3 TIMES IN THE LAST 4 WEEKS. AFTER CLOSURE INSPECTION, THIS IS A WIRING / CIRCUIT ISSUE AS THE HEADLAMP SOCKET IS BECOMING SO HOT IT IS MELTING AND SLIGHTLY BURNT. IT IS A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE A FIRE OCCURS IN A SATURN OUTLOOK VEHICLE. *TR
FAX FWD (FL) CO-OWNERS OF A 2008 SATURN OUTLOOK WITH A DEFECTIVE SUNROOF, REQUESTING GM REIMBURSE REPAIR COST FOR GM MFR DEFECT, REPLY TO TALLAHASSEE, FL OFC. *TGW THE CONSUMER WOULD LIKE TO BE REIMBURSED FOR THE EXPENSES INCURRED TO FIX A LEAK IN THE SUNROOF. THE VEHICLE STARTING LEAKING IN JUNE 2008 AND THE DEALER ALLEGEDLY FIXED IT. THEY ADDED EXTENSIONS TO THE DRAIN. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE VEHICLE WAS DESIGNED POORLY WITH DRAINS AND TUBES THAT WERE TOO SHORT. IT STARTED LEAKING AGAIN AND HAD TO BE TAKEN BACK SEVERAL MONTHS LATER. AGAIN, THE DEALER CLAIMED IT WAS FIXED AGAIN. HOWEVER, IT STARTED LEAKING AGAIN IN JANUARY 2009. GM INFORMED THE CONSUMER TO TAKE IT TO ANOTHER DEALER, BUT THEY WOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST OF FIXING THE DEFECT. IT LEAKED AGAIN ON FEB 12TH.*JB
WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED MIDCYCLE WIPE AND WOULD NOT MOVE UP OR DOWN. THIS HAS OCCURRED TWICE NOW, THE FIRST TIME AROUND APRIL 12TH, 2008 AND NOW TODAY (MAY 7TH, 2008). AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE, WHERE IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE LOCKING NUT BETWEEN THE WIPER MOTOR AND THE WIPER LINKAGE HAD COME LOOSE/OFF. THE INCIDENT TODAY CAUSED TWO NEAR MISS ACCIDENTS WHILE MY WIFE GOT THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD AND INTO A PARKING LOT AS WE ARE EXPERIENCING EXTREMELY HEAVY RAINFALL. *TR
SINCE I LEASED THIS VEHICLE, I HAVE HAD TO RETURN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP A TOTAL OF 6 TIMES. MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN OUT OF SERVICE FOR REPAIRS FOR APPROXIMATELY 20 CALENDAR DAYS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE ON MY VEHICLE IS 18,654. MY VEHICLE HAS HAD PROBLEMS WITH STEERING, TRANSMISSION, AND THE ELECTRIC SEAT, BUT THE MAIN REASON THAT THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT IN FOR REPAIR ON EACH OF THE SIX VISITS IS AS FOLLOWS: WHEN RAINING, WATER APPEARS IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS: (A) PASSENGER SIDE, 2ND COLUMN; (B) PASSENGER SIDE, DIRECTLY BELOW GLOVE COMPARTMENT; (C) PASSENGER SIDE, FLOOR AREA; (D) PASSENGER SIDE DOOR, FLOOR AREA DIRECTLY BELOW DOOR; (E) PASSENGER SIDE WINDSHIELD, DROPPING FROM TOP OF WINDSHIELD AREA ONTO DASHBOARD; (F) PASSENGER SIDE SEATBELT -- COMPLETELY SOAKING WET; (G) PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG PLUG, WATER DRIPPING OUT FROM EDGES; (H) DRIVER SIDE SEATBELT; (I) DRIVER SIDE WINDOW. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN EACH AND EVERY TIME IT RAINS; IT HAPPENS EVERY 2 TO 4 TIMES IT RAINS. THE LAST TIME IT WAS BROUGHT IN TO SATURN, SMOKE WAS POURING OUT FROM BELOW THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT AND THERE WAS A VERY BAD "ELECTRICAL" TYPE OF SMELL. THE HEADLINER HAS BEEN REMOVED A COUPLE OF TIMES; THEY HAVE VERIFIED THAT THERE IS DAMPNESS AND A WATER LEAK ABOVE THE HEADLINER, BUT THEY CANNOT REPLICATE OR DETERMINE THE SOURCE OF THE LEAKING. THE DEALERSHIP HAS INFORMED THAT AT THIS POINT THEY CAN DO NOTHING FURTHER TO DETERMINE THE SOURCE OF THE LEAK. THEY STATE THAT AN ENGINEER FROM SATURN MUST LOOK AT THE VEHICLE TO ATTEMPT TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. I HAVE WRITTEN TO SATURN AND THEY ARE SENDING SOMEONE OUT TO LOOK AT IT NEXT WEEK. ON APRIL 11, 2008 AT APPROXIMATELY 8:00 P.M. I STOPPED AT COSTCO (WEST HOMESTEAD, PA) FOR FUEL. MY WIFE WAS IN THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT SEAT WITH THE SEAT BELT ON AND MY SON WAS IN THE 2ND ROW PASSENGER SIDE SEAT WITH THE SEAT BELT ON. THE ENGINE OF MY 2008 SATURN OUTLOOK AWD - XR WAS OFF. MY SON WAS WATCHING A DVD ON THE OUTLOOK'S CEILING MOUNTED PLAYER. HE DECIDED TO CHANGE THE DVD AND DEPRESSED THE RELEASE BUTTON ON THE SEATBELT (LOCATED TO HIS LEFT). THE BUCKLE RELEASED AND HIT HIM IN THE LEFT SIDE OF HIS HEAD AT WHICH TIME MY SON PULLED DOWN ON THE SECTION OF THE SEATBELT COMING FROM THE B POST CEILING TO REATTACH THE BELT BUCKLE AT WHICH TIME THE SEATBELT MADE A LOOP ROUND HIS HEAD AND TIGHTENED AROUND HIS THROAT. HE IMMEDIATELY SAID TO MY WIFE, " MOM, I THINK I HAVE A PROBLEM HERE." SHE REACHED BACK AND PLACED HER HAND BETWEEN THE SEAT BELT AND THE FRONT OF HIS THROAT. THERE WAS ONLY ROOM FOR HER TO GET HER INDEX, MIDDLE AND RING FINGER IN. MY WIFE YELLED " YOUR SON IS STUCK, WE CAN'T GO YET." I WALKED AROUND TO THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE OUTLOOK TO SEE MY WIFE HOLDING THE SEALTBELT FROM GETTING TIGHTER AROUND MY SON'S NECK. I TRIED TO PULL DOWN ON THE SEAT BELT FROM THE B POST LOCATION, BUT THE MECHANISM WOULD NOT RELEASE THE BELT FORWARD, ONLY BACKWARDS INTO THE HOUSING (WHICH WOULD STRANGLE MY SON). THERE WAS INSUFFICIENT SLACK IN THE BELT TO PERMIT ME TO SIDE IT OVER MY SON'S HEAD. I ASKED MY WIFE TO CALL ONSTAR. SHE GOT A REPRESENTATIVE ON THE LINE WHO ASKED IF WE WANTED HER TO CALL EMERGENCY RESPONDERS. I TOLD HER THAT I WAS A FIREFIGHTER CERTIFIED IN BASIC VEHICLE RESCUE AND ASKED HER TO GET A TECHNICAL SATURN EXPERT ON THE LINE WHO COULD INSTRUCT ME HOW TO RELEASE THE SEAT BELT. ONSTAR COULD NOT PROVIDE AND EXPERT. AT THAT POINT MY SON STARTED TO PANIC. I HAD COSTCO ATTENDANT, FRED FUNAIOCK CUT THE SEAT BELT AT THE FLOOR LEVEL WITH SCISSORS TO RELEASE THE BELT FROM AROUND MY SON'S THROAT. ONSTAR INCIDENT #1111608558. PICTURES TAKEN. *TR
SINCE DECEMBER 2007 WHEN I BOUGHT A 2008 SATURN OUTLOOK XR, I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY REAR (2ND ROW) FOLDING SEAT. THE PROBLEM PERSISTS AND I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP PLENTY OF TIMES AND STILL NOT FIXED. THE PROBLEM WITH THE REAR FOLDING SEATS ARE AS FOLLOWS: WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION OR STOPPED, THE REAR FOLDING SEATS POPS UP, WITH OR WITHOUT A PERSON SITTING ON THE SEATS. EVERY TIME I TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY ADVISED THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPAIR IT, BECAUSE COMPANY POLICY STATES, "IF IT DOES NOT HAPPEN IN THE MECHANIC'S PRESENCE THEN IT CAN NOT BE FIXED". PLEASE UNDERSTAND, I HAVE TWO SMALL KIDS (2 1/2 YEAR OLD AND A 10 MONTH OLD) AND BOTH OF THE KIDS RIDE IN THE BACK SEAT IN THEIR CAR SEATS. AND EVEN WITH THE KIDS IN THEIR CAR SEATS AND MY WIFE SITTING IN BETWEEN THEM, THE SEATS POPS UP. I HONESTLY DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO ANYMORE. I HAVE BEEN SUGGESTED TO GO TO THE NEWS MEDIA AND SHOW THEM THE DANGER OF THIS MALFUNCTION AND IT SEEMS THAT THIS IS THE LAST BEST SUGGESTION FOR SATURN TO CONSIDER HELPING ME. MY WARRANTY ENDS IN DECEMBER 2010 AND WHAT WILL I DO THEN? I HAVE MET OTHERS AT THE DEALERSHIP WITH THIS PROBLEM AND ONE OF THEM WAS A SATURN MECHANIC (RAUL, WHO OWNS AN OUTLOOK) WHO HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND HE CONFESSED TO ME THAT HE FIXED HIS BY HAVING ONE OF HIS EMPLOYEES ORDER THE PART (NEW 2ND ROW SEATS). I ASKED HIM WHY HE COULD NOT DO IT, AND HIS RESPONSE WAS, "SORRY, BUT IT DID NOT HAPPEN IN THE MECHANIC'S PRESENCE." I UNDERSTAND THAT POLICY, BUT YOU NEED TO UNDERSTAND MY CONCERNS FOR MY FAMILY AND THEIR SAFETY. I ALSO UNDERSTAND THAT SATURN IS OUT OF BUSINESS, BUT SOMEBODY NEEDS TO BE HELD RELIABLE FOR ANYTHING THAT HAPPENS TO ME OR MY FAMILY. AT ABOUT 2,000 MILES, ON 2/13/08, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON OUT 2--8 SATURN OUTLOOK AND STATED IGNITION PROBLEM (CAM SENSORS). SATURN INDICATED BAD CAMS (DUAL). THEY REPLACED THEM AND BASICALLY REBUILT THE ENTIRE TOP OF MY ENGINE. 2 WEEKS LATER, THE TENSIONER PULLING SNAPPED OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING, CAUSING LOSS OF STEERING, ELECTRICAL, COOLING, ETC. CAR TOWED. SATURN REPLACED PARTS AND DENIED RELATED TO CAM REPLACEMENT. NOW AT 4,400 MILES ON 5/1/08 CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. ONSTAR DIAGNOSTICS CALLED AND STATED SAME TROUBLE CODE AS 2/13/08 (CAM SENSORS). WILL CALL SATURN REGIONAL REP. WHO HANDLED OUR COMPLAINT THE FIRST TIME TOMORROW. NOTE: OUR COUSIN HAS SAME SUV BUT THE GMC (ACADIA) WHO HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM WITH THE CAMS ONE MONTH AGO BUT AT 200 MILES. BACK IN MARCH, THE SERVICE DEPT. I OWN A 2008 SATURN OUTLOOK,SINCE NEW VEHICLE HAS HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION.IT OVER REVS WHILE IN THE PASSING MODE AND DOESN'T DOWN SHIFT UNTIL YOU COMPLETELY TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE GAS.WHEN ACCELERATING SOMETIMES IT TAKES SECONDS BEFORE ACCELERATING MAKING IT DANGEROUS TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC.RECENTLY IT FEELS LIKE THE TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING WHEN YOU ACCELERATE TO GO A UP A HILL. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES AND ALL THEY SAY IS ALL THE COMPUTER CODES ARE CORRECT AND THEY CAN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM,SO THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. I EMAILED SATURN THIS WEEK AND THEY STATED THEY CONTACTED THE DEALER AND WERE TOLD THE CODES ARE UP TO DATE AND THEY ARE UNABLE TO DUPLICATED THE PROBLEM,SO I ACCOMPLISHED NOTHING. I GUESS THEY'LL WAIT UNTIL THE TRANSMISSION BLOWS UP OR THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY BEFORE THEY TAKE ANY ACTION.FROM THE BLOGS I HAVE READ ON THE INTERNET THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE AND SATURN TELLS EVERYONE THE SAME THING. I FEEL THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE AND THE CONSUMER IS GOING TO BE STUCK WITH THE COST OF REPAIRS ON THIS VEHICLE UNLESS THE US GOVERNMENT INTERVENES. PASSENGER AIRBAG SYSTEM FAILS TO REGISTER AN ADULT PASSENGER IN THE SEAT, THEREFORE THE SYSTEM IS NOT ALWAYS ACTIVE. THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. *TR
