STARTED THE CAR AFTER BEING PARKED OVERNIGHT AND THE POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON AND IT HAD A TOTAL LOSS OF POWER STEERING. I TOOK IT TO A TOYOTA SPECIALTY MECHANIC AND HE DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING ECU HAD FAILED AT IT COULD ONLY BE FIXED PROPERLY AT THE DEALERSHIP.
EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. QUALIFIED FOR WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT. OIL CONSUMPTION TEST CONDUCTED THROUGH DEALERSHIPS IS RIGGED. I HAVE CHARGED THE OIL USAGE IN MY CAR FOR OVER 24 MONTHS AND IT BURNS THROUGH IN EXCESS OF A QUART EVERY 800 - 900 MILES.
ON 9/14/15 AROUND 7AM MY POWER STEERING WAS WORKING GREAT, BUT 30 MIN. WHEN I TURNED MY CAR ON I SAW THE STEERING WHEEL WARNING INDICATOR HAS TURNED ON. NOT KNOWING ANYTHING I DROVE MY CAR TO AN AUTOBODY TO HAVE IT CHECKED AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE ELECTRIC MECHANISM THAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED AND TO BRING MY CAR INTO THE DEALER FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATION. LATER THAT DAY I DROVE MY CAR TO THE DEALER WITH A REALLY STIFF STEERING WHEEL. THE NEXT DAY THE DEALER CALLED AND TOLD ME THAT THE POWER STEERING WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE IT WAS INOPERATIVE, SO I HAD THEM REPLACE THE PART AND THE TOTAL HAS PUT A HOLE IN MY WALLET. I HAVE HAD THIS CAR SINCE JULY 2007 AND IT HASN'T EVEN BEEN 10 YEARS YET THAT PART IS NOT FUNCTIONAL ANYMORE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA SCION XB. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE POWER STEERING BECAME INOPERABLE WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON ONE OTHER OCCASION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 SCION XB. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A VEHICLE FROM THE REAR. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT WAS THE ONLY PERSON IN THE VEHICLE AND SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE BACK, RIGHT HAND, NECK, AND BACK OF HEAD. THE CONTACT DID NOT SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
I LOOKED TO SEE HOW FAST I WAS GOING (30 MPH) AND WHEN I LOOKED BACK UP THERE WAS A CAR STOPPED IN THE ROAD APPROXIMATELY 35FT AHEAD OF ME. WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES MY CAR NEVER SLOWED DOWN AND I HIT THE OTHER CAR.
TAKATA RECALL....I CAN'T HAVE A PASSENGER IN FRONT SEAT DUE TO RECALL. IT HAS BEEN 8 MONTHS AND NEED TO RESOLVE.
TAKATA RECALL. I RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE IN MAY 2016 FOR MY VEHICLE. WE HAVE STOPPED USING THE PASSENGER SEAT. THIS IS GREATLY IMPACTING OUR LIVES. WE HAVE BEEN WAITING 10 MONTHS, AND THERE ARE STILL NO PARTS AVAILABLE. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. IN FEBRUARY 2017, WE GOT A RECALL NOTICE, FOR THE SAME ISSUE, ON OUR SECOND CAR, 2012 TOYOTA COROLA. WE CANNOT SAFELY TRANSPORT OUR FAMILY IN EITHER CAR NOW. WE NEED TAKATA TO EXPEDITE THE REPAIRS AND PROVIDE US WITH FREE TRANSPORTATION IN A VEHICLE THAT DOES NOT PUT OUR LIVES AT RISK.
TODAY (APRIL 23, 2015) I STOPPED AT A STORE, EVERYTHING WAS FINE. AFTER RETURNING TO MY CAR I STARTED IT AND PROCEEDED TO BACK OUT OF MY PARKING SPACE AND REALIZED I HAD NO POWER STEERING AND NOTICED THE STEERING WHEEL LIGHT WAS ON. I TOOK IT TO SEARS AND THEY DIAGNOSED THAT IT WAS THE ECU. I WAS TOLD BY SEARS THAT I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO BRING IT TO A DEALER TO BE REPAIRED. I DROPPED IT OFF ABOUT AN HOUR AGO AND AM WAITING TO GET HIT WITH THE REPAIR COSTS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA SCION XB. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TO BE TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR FURTHER INSPECTION AND DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,619.
2008 SCION XB. POWER STEERING FAILURE AS A RESULT OF POWER SUPPLY RELAY FAILURE. LOSS OF POWER STEERING OCCURRED UPON START UP. POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ON. WAS TOLD AT LOCAL GARAGE THAT THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE THAT COULD ONLY BE ADDRESSED AT DEALERSHIP. CAR WILL NEED TO BE DRIVEN TO DEALERSHIP, BUT WITHOUT POWER STEERING IT IS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS. I AM LUCKY THIS DID NOT OCCUR UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE DRIVING. WHAT A LEMON. *TR
I DROVE THE VEHICLE ON SATURDAY EVENING AND EXPERIENCED NO PROBLEMS. RETURNED TO THE VEHICLE ON SUNDAY TO ATTEND CHURCH AND THE POWER STEERING WOULD NOT FUNCTION. I CHECKED THE FUSES AND THEY WERE NOT BLOWN. THE VEHICLE IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO DRIVE WITHOUT THE POWER STEERING UNIT WORKING. I LIVE FORTY (40) MILES FROM A DEALER REPAIR SHOP. IT WILL BE VERY EXPENSIVE TO HAVE A WRECKER SERVICE PICK UP THE VEHICLE AND HAUL TO THE DEALER. *TR
LOST POWER STEERING WHILE MAKING A U-TURN. WAS ABLE TO GAIN CONTROL BY STEERING HARD ON THE STEERING WHEEL! ALMOST CRASHING ONTO ANOTHER CAR. FOUND OUT THAT THEY'RE ARE SO MANY COMPLAINTS IN REGARDS TO THIS MATTER ONLINE. SCION WOULD NOT RECALL, OR INVESTIGATE FURTHER. COST OF REPAIR, TOW, DIAGNOSTIC IS IN THE $1500+! *TR
THE 1ST THING I NOTICED AFTER STARTING MY CAR AFTER WORK WAS THE HEATER WAS BLOWING COLD AIR, EVEN AFTER 4 MILES ON THE ROAD (2 LANE ROAD - 40 MPG). ABOUT 4 MILES FURTHER ON (FREEWAY - 60+ MPH), I NOTICED A THIN GREY CLOUD BEHIND ME, BUT THE EVENING MISTS WERE EVIDENT, SO I WASN'T SURE AT FIRST IF IT WAS COMING FROM MY CAR. I CHECKED THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE WHICH SHOWED FLAT COLD - UNUSUAL! I CHECKED MY REARVIEW MIRROR AGAIN, MAYBE 200 YDS LATER, AND THERE WAS A PALER GREY CLOUD FOLLOWING ME. I CHECKED THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AGAIN AND THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS SHOWING. ABOUT 200-500 YARDS FARTHER, THE VSC LIGHT CAME ON, THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON AND ANOTHER LIGHT THAT IS NOT SHOWN IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL STARTED BLINKING: THE SYMBOL WAS A CAR WITH A RECYCLE ARROW INSIDE THE BODY. I TOOK IT TO MEAN THAT THE CONTROLS WERE ACKNOWLEDGING THE HEATER WASN'T WORKING (THE SYMBOL IS THE SAME AS "AIR INTAKE SELECTOR" ON THE HEATER/AIR CONDITIONER CONTROLS). I FELT THAT I STILL HAD GOOD CONTROL OVER THE STEERING; IT WAS A CLEAR EVENING AND THE ROAD WAS DRY, SO I FELT I COULD GET HOME SAFELY (2 MILES). THE CAR WAS RUNNING QUITE ROUGH WHEN I GOT HOME AND THERE WAS WHAT SEEMED TO BE STEAM COMING FROM THE FRONT QUADRANT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE DEALER SAYS THE WATER PUMP FAILED, CAUSING THE ENGINE TO OVERHEAT, SO NOW THE ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED ($6800). WHY DID THE WARNING LIGHTS AND TEMPERATURE GAUGE NOT LET ME KNOW THE ENGINE WAS OVERHEATING????? OR WHY DID THE WATER PUMP SUDDENLY FAIL?? NO WARNING LIGHTS TO INDICATE FAILURE OF A CRITICAL PART!!!!!??!. (CAR HAS BEEN REGULARLY MAINTAINED, ALL RECOMMENDED SERVICE PERFORMED BY CERTIFIED MECHANICS). NO SIGN THAT THE WATER PUMP WAS LEAKING PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. *TR
EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. TOOK VEHICLE INTO DEALERSHIP AND SPENT SEVEN HOURS WAITING WHILE THEY "TESTED" THE CAR. FINALLY, AFTER PAYING FOR AN OIL CHANGE WAS TOLD TO LET THE ENGINE RUN AND COME BACK IN WHEN EITHER THE OIL LAMP CAME ON OR IT WAS TIME FOR AN OIL CHANGE. LAMP CAME ON BEFORE MILEAGE WAS THROUGH SO WENT BACK TO DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT OUR CAR "QUALIFIED FOR RECALL PROCEDURE." WAS NOT GIVEN DATES OR ANYTHING, JUST TOLD WE WOULD BE CONTACTED WHEN THE PARTS CAME IN. THE CAR SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE, ENGINE SHUDDERS AND FEELS LIKE ABOUT TO STALL EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE. CALLED DEALERSHIP TO LET THEM KNOW AND GIRL ON PHONE SAID THAT IF REPAIRS WERE NEEDED BEFORE PARTS CAME IN, IT WOULD BE OUT OF MY POCKET, AND THAT LOANER CAR WOULD ALSO BE AT MY EXPENSE. FINALLY GOT WORD THAT PARTS ARE IN AND NOW SHOULD BE SCHEDULED SOON FOR REPAIRS. WILL NEVER BUY FROM TOYOTA AGAIN.
VEHICLE'S REAR WHEEL SPEED SENSOR CONNECTORS GET CORRODED BY ROAD SALT, RESULTING IN FAILURE OF CAR'S COMPUTER TO REGISTER SPEED OF REAR WHEELS. THEREFORE, THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM AND VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL MAY NOT FUNCTION CORRECTLY IN SNOWY CONDITIONS. TOYOTA RELEASED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN REGARDING THIS ISSUE AND CORRECTED THE DESIGN FLAW ON LATER SCION XB MODELS. (S-SB-0040-09 JULY 6, 2009). *TR
SALT AND SNOW CAUSES ERROR CODES C0210, REAR SPEED SENSOR RH CIRCUIT TO MALFUNCTION AND SHUTS DOWN THE ABS, TRACTION CONTROL, AND AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. ALL SAFETY DEVICES ARE OFF WHEN SALT IS USED ON ROADWAYS. SALT AND SNOW CAUSES ERROR CODES C0215, REAR SPEED SENSOR LH CIRCUIT TO MALFUNCTION AND SHUTS DOWN THE ABS, TRACTION CONTROL, AND AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. ALL SAFETY DEVICES ARE OFF WHEN SALT IS USED ON ROADWAYS. THIS IS A KNOW PROBLEM WITH 2008-2009 SCION XB, TOYOTA TSB S-SB-0040-09, JULY 6,2009 **THE CONNECTORS FOR THESE SENSORS ARE EXPOSED TO THE ENVIRONMENT, CAUSING NON DEPLOYMENT OF SAFETY DEVICES LEADING UP TO, AND DURING A CRASH** *TR
I PURCHASED THE SCION XB 2008 NEW AND HAVE HAD ALL OIL CHANGES AND RECOMMENDED SERVICE PERFORMED TIMELY. AT APPROX. 45,000 MILES (BUT AFTER THE 5 YEAR WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED, (I AM A LOW MILEAGE DRIVER) I NOTICED THAT IT HAD CONSUMED TWO QUARTS OF OIL WITHIN AROUND 1500 MILES AFTER THE OIL CHANGE (RECOMMENDED TO PERFORM EVERY 5000 MILES). I HAD AN OIL CHANGE AND TOOK A ROAD TRIP SO THAT I PUT MORE THAN A 1000 MILES ON IT IN ABOUT 10 DAYS, AND WHEN I WAS ON A STEEP INCLINE THE CHECK OIL LIGHT CAME ON. MY MECHANIC SAID IT WAS POSSIBLE THAT THE OIL HAD NOT BEEN FILLED PROPERLY AFTER THE CHANGE AND TOPPED IT OFF. IT WAS LOW AGAIN WHEN I HAD IT CHANGED AT THE 51,000 MARK; AFTER ABOUT 1,500 MILES IT NEEDED TWO QUARTS OF OIL WHICH WAS ADDED. AFTER ANOTHER 1,500 OR SO MILES IT NEEDED ANOTHER TWO QUARTS OF OIL, WHICH I ADDED. I CONTACTED TOYOTA, AND WITHOUT RECITING THE INITIAL RUNAROUND, THEY SET UP AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST AFTER CONFIRMING IT WAS NOT LEAKING OIL. THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST IS NOT COMPLETED - IT MAY NOT BE A TRUE REFLECTION OF OIL USAGE AS IT SEEMS TO BE WORSE WHEN DRIVEN A LONG DISTANCE AT ONE TIME WHICH WILL PROBABLY NOT HAPPEN DURING THIS 1,000 MILE CYCLE. I THEN GOT A NOTICE IN THE MAIL THAT THEY HAD A PROGRAM TO REIMBURSE OWNERS FOR THE PARTS (NOT THE LABOR) IF THEY BELIEVED THE VEHICLE MET CERTAIN (UNSPECIFIED) CRITERIA AFTER THE OWNERS HAD THE REPAIRS DONE FOR THE DEFECT WHICH, APPARENTLY, THEY ALREADY KNOW SPECIFICALLY EXISTS AND HOW TO FIX IT. THE NOTICE SAID THEY ARE MAKING AS MANY REPLACEMENT PARTS AS POSSIBLE BEFORE ENCOURAGING US TO GET OUR VEHICLES REPAIRED. MY NUMBERS ARE NOT EXACT BUT THE INFORMATION IS GENERALLY ACCURATE. SCION VEHICLE WAS HIT IN AN ACCIDENT BY ANOTHER CAR ON 1/15/2015. VEHICLE THAT HIT SCION FAILED TO STOP FOR A RED SIGNAL AND COLLIDED INTO SCION HITTING FIRST THE RIGHT FRONT CORNER OF PASSENGER SIDE, THEN HIT AGAIN HEAD ON. AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. WE HAVE 2 WITNESSES THAT SAW THE ACCIDENT AND ALL WITNESSES INCLUDING THE POLICE OFFICER NOTICED THE AIR BAG WAS NOT DEPLOYED. ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING FAILURE WHILE PARKED. WHEN I PARKED THE CAR MY STEERING WORKED. WHEN I STARTED MY CAR AND PRECEDED TO BACK UP, THE POWER STEERING LIGHT APPEARED AND IT WAS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN THE WHEEL. *TR
1. INCIDENT THE DRIVER WAS DRIVING THE 2008 SCION XB ALONE ON EAST-BOUND I-80, APPROACHING CARQUINEZ BRIDGE, VALLEJO, WHEN THE VEHICLE STOPPED WORKING. THE DRIVING SPEED WAS ABOUT 70 MPH. TIME OF THE INCIDENT WAS AROUND 12:45 A.M. ON DECEMBER 25, 2014. HE WAS DRIVING ON THE 1ST LANE, AND TO THE BEST OF HIS KNOWLEDGE, THERE WAS ONLY ONE COMPACT CAR PASSING NEARBY, WHEN THE CAR STOPPED ALL OF A SUDDEN . HE TRIED TO REACH OUT FOR A TOW TRUCK WITHOUT SUCCESS, BUT LATER ON HE REMEMBERED HE WAS AN ASSOCIATE MEMBER OF A CLASSIC MEMBERSHIP CARD REGISTERED IN THE NAME OF HIS MOTHER. BUT HE DID NOT HAVE THE CARD ON HIM AT THAT TIME, BUT GAVE HIS NAME TO AAA TO PROVE HE IS AN ASSOCIATE MEMBER. FINALLY, THE AAA TOW TRUCK ARRIVED ON THE SCENE AROUND 1:45 A.M. HE TOWED IT TO HOME, AND DAYS LATER HAD IT TOWED TO A MECHANIC SHOP, EAST BAY AUTO LOCATED ON NORTH TEXAS STREET. THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AND SAID THE ENGINE GOT BROKEN AND THE CAR NEEDED REPLACEMENT OF THE ENGINE. 2. SCION SIDE ON FEB. 10, 2015, THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE RECEIVED A LETTER OF WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT NOTIFICATION FROM SCION. THE OWNER DID NOT TAKE AN INITIATIVE TO CALL SCION BEFORE RECEIVING THIS NOTIFICATION. THE NEXT DAY, THE VEHICLE OWNER CALLED SCION AND FILED A CLAIM FOR ENGINE FAILURE DUE TO EXCESSIVE ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION. CASE #[XXX]. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REP AT SCION ARRANGED FOR TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN VACAVILLE TO INSPECT AND DIAGNOSE SCION XB TO SEE IF THE ENGINE FAILURE WAS DUE TO EXCESSIVE ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION. TL* THE CONTACTS OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA SCION XB. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE AND THE VEHICLE VEERED TO THE RIGHT. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE CONTROL ARM WAS FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000.
I RECENTLY EXPERIENCED A "SUDDEN ACCELERATION INCIDENT". OUR 2008 SCION XB WAS DRIVEN OVER 122,000 MILES WITHOUT MAJOR MALFUNCTION UNTIL 3:30 PM ON SEPTEMBER 26 2014. THEN, AFTER STOPPING AT OUR MAILBOX ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ROAD, I PROCEEDED 15 FEET TO OUR DRIVEWAY ENTRANCE AND MADE A LEFT TURN TO POSITION THE CAR TO PASS THROUGH OUR GATE, ABOUT 20 FEET AHEAD. MY SPEED WAS UNDER 5 MPH. I MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE TOUCHED THE BRAKE AND/OR ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO ADJUST SPEED. SUDDENLY, THE ENGINE ROARED INTO WIDE-OPEN-THROTTLE AND THE CAR LURCHED FORWARD. THE CAR WENT THROUGH THE GATE, GRAZING THE LEFT GATEPOST, WHICH SHATTERED THE LEFT-FRONT HUBCAP AND SHEARED OFF THE LEFT MIRROR MOUNT. THE CAR THEN CAREENED DOWN OUR DRIVEWAY WHILE I ATTEMPTED TO STEER AND APPLY THE BRAKE. AFTER ABOUT 2 SECONDS, DURING WHICH THE CAR TRAVERSED ABOUT 100 FEET DOWN THE DRIVEWAY, THE ENGINE ABRUPTLY SLOWED TO NORMAL AND THE BRAKES STOPPED THE CAR. DAMAGE INCLUDED THE SHEARED-OFF LEFT MIRROR ASSEMBLY, LEFT-FRONT HUBCAP, AND MINOR DENTING OF THE LEFT-FRONT WHEEL WELL. THE CAR ENGINE HAS BEHAVED NORMALLY SINCE BUT HAS NOT BEEN DRIVEN BEYOND OUR DRIVEWAY. I EXPERIENCED NO IMPACT OR INJURY, ASIDE FROM SHOCK. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR DOWN THE ROAD AND, ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE POWER STEERING COMPLETELY STOPPED WORKING WHICH REALLY CAUGHT ME OFF GUARD. WHEN THIS HAPPENED, I COULDN'T MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE CAR BUT SLOWED DOWN ENOUGH SO THAT I EVENTUALLY COULD STEER IT (VERY HARD TO STEER). THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT OR INJURY OR FATALITY SINCE IT CAUGHT ME COMPLETELY BY SURPRISE. I WASN'T VERY FAR FROM MY SCION DEALER AND I CAREFULLY DROVE RIGHT OVER THERE AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE POWER STEERING ECU COMPUTER HAD FAILED (THE CAR HAS ELECTRONIC STEERING) AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AT A VERY HIGH COST ($800). SO, MY CAR IS SITTING AND WAITING FOR A NEW COMPUTER WHICH THEY DIDN'T HAVE AND HAD TO ORDER. THIS IS A TERRIBLE AND VERY DANGEROUS SAFETY PROBLEM. I'M A FAIRLY STRONG MALE AND WAS ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE CAR, BUT IF AN ELDERLY PERSON OR SOMEONE SMALL AND NOT STRONG WAS DRIVING, THEY MIGHT NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT OR FATALITY. THIS ABSOLUTELY SHOULD NOT HAPPEN (ESPECIALLY IN A CAR LIKE MINE WITH AROUND 73,000 MILES) AND IS, IN MY OPINION, AN EXTREMELY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE WHICH NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED AND COMPENSATION NEEDS TO BE MADE BY THE MANUFACTURER FOR REPAIRS INVOLVING THIS PROBLEM. MY VEHICLE IS CONSUMING AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF OIL. THIS ISSUE STARTED AT ROUGHLY 58K. I HAVE NEVER BEEN LOW ON OIL AT ANY OIL CHANGE. I WAS APPROXIMATELY 3QTS LOW AT 58K WITH NO SIGNS, AT ALL OF AN OIL LEAK. I TOOK MY CAR TO TOYOTA WHERE AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST WAS PERFORMED. I WAS THEN INFORMED THAT MY ENGINE IS HAVING THE OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM AS LISTED IN A TSB ISSUED BY TOYOTA ON AUGUST 11, 2011. BECAUSE MY CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY, TOYOTA IS REFUSING TO COVER THE COSTLY REPAIRS. *TR

I WAS DRIVING AT 20MPH OFF A RAMP ONTO ANOTHER ROAD AND THE STEERING LOCKED UP AND I HAD TO JAM ON MY BRAKES TO STOP MY CAR FAST OR THE CAR WOULD HAVE WENT OFF THE SIDE DOWN A HILL AND CRASHED. 2008 SCION XB. EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. FIRST NOTICED PROBLEM WHEN ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHILE BRAKING. STOPPING CAUSED WHAT LITTLE ENGINE OIL WAS IN PAN TO MOVE OUT OF AREA OF SENSOR TRIGGERING LOW OIL WARNING. ADDED OIL UPON ARRIVAL AT HOME; DIPSTICK DID NOT SHOW ANY OIL. THIS CONTINUED AFTER MULTIPLE OIL CHANGES AT SCHEDULED INTERVALS. CONSUMPTION IS APPROXIMATELY 1-2 QUARTS IN BETWEEN OIL CHANGES, APPROX 5K MILES. BROUGHT VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP TO HAVE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST PERFORMED. VEHICLE PASSED, BUT WAS TOLD THAT IN ORDER TO QUALIFY AS AN OIL CONSUMPTION VEHICLE, THE CAR WOULD HAVE TO CONSUME 1 QUART PER 1000 MILES. WITH ONLY A 4 QUART CAPACITY, THE CAR WOULD BURN ALL OIL PRIOR TO THE 5K OIL CHANGE FREQUENCY LEADING TO A CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE - SEIZE. I HAD TO PAY FOR AN OIL CHANGE TO HAVE THE TEST PERFORMED. I WAS TOLD THAT MY OIL CONSUMPTION WAS NORMAL, WHICH I DO NOT ACCEPT AS FACT. THIS SCION XB WAS PURCHASED AS A CERTIFIED USED VEHICLE FROM A DEALERSHIP. AFTER A SNOWSTORM, MY ABS, VSC, STABILITY CONTROL AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS CAME ON. STAYED ON. TOOK TO MECHANIC, THEY WENT OUT. HE SUSPECTS ICE BUILD UP. RAN SCAN. IT SHOWS RIGHT REAR WHEEL SENSOR PROBLEM. LIGHTS COME ON INTERMITTENTLY. SON'S CAR IS IN SHOP FOR GM IGNITION RECALL FOR OVER A MONTH NOW. SO HE DROVE MY SCION TO COLLEGE. CALLED ME AND SAID LIGHTS WERE ON AGAIN. I CALLED MECHANIC, HE FEELS IT COULD BE WHEEL BEARING OR SPEED SENSOR IN THAT WHEEL, EITHER RUST OR CORROSION DUE TO INTERMITTENT LIGHTS. HE CHECKED IT AGAIN. NOW VSC AND TRACTION LIGHTS ARE ON ANYTIME CAR IS DRIVE. I AM TAKING IT IN TODAY FOR WHEEL BEARING REPLACEMENT. MY SCION EXPERIENCED LOSS OF STABILITY CONTROL, TRACTION CONTROL AND ANTI-LOCK BRAKES DURING A SNOW STORM IN WINTER 2012. WARNING LIGHTS FOR ABS, BRAKES AND VSC ON THE GAUGE CLUSTER ILLUMINATED AT THAT TIME. WHILE DRIVING AT SLOW SPEED IN THE STORM I REALIZED THAT ABS WAS NOT WORKING. THE WARNING LIGHTS REMAINED LIT FOR ABOUT TWO DAYS, THEN WENT OUT AND DID NOT RETURN UNTIL DECEMBER 2013. MY VEHICLE WAS IN CALIFORNIA DURING THE WINTER OF 2013, AND DID NOT EXPERIENCE ANY LOSS OF ABS, BRAKES, VSC OR TRACTION CONTROL OR ILLUMINATED WARNING LIGHTS. IN DECEMBER 2013 WHILE DRIVING IN A LIGHT SNOW, APPROX 2 INCHES, EXITING A LOCAL HIGHWAY AND APPROACHING A STOP SIGN AT 25 MPH I PUT PRESSURE ON THE BRAKES TO STOP. MY CAR SPUN AROUND 360 DEGREES. I HIT A SNOW BANK AND CAME TO A STOP. THE ENTIRE TIME THE VEHICLE STABILITY SYSTEM DID NOT ACTIVATE. THE THREE WARNING LIGHTS FOR ABS, BRAKES AND VCS ARE NOW CONTINUOSLY LIT. ANTI-LOCK BRAKES, TRACTION CONTROL AND VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL STILL DO NOT FUNCTION. *TR

MY 17 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING 30 MPH THROUGH AN INTERSECTION, ATTEMPTING A TURN, WHEN THE POWER STEERING WENT COMPLETELY OUT. SHE WASN'T ABLE TO COMPLETE TURN, ALMOST HAD A WRECK. DATES AND MILEAGE ARE APPROXIMATE. I HAVE BEEN GOING THROUGH OIL FOR OVER A YEAR AND I HAVE LESS THAN 90,000 MILES ON MY SCION. I ALSO HAVE A POWER STEERING LEAK.
