ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHEN I HAVE COME TO A QUICK STOP AT A LIGHT, THE ENGINE HAS CUT OUT. THE SUBARU DEALERSHIP FOUND THE THE "TORQUE CONVERTER IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY." THE CAR HAS 93,414 ON THE CLOCK.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 SUBARU OUTBACK. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND THE SUN ROOF SHATTERED WITHOUT WARNING. THE GLASS FELL INTO THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER, BUT WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000.
WHEN COMING TO A STOP THE CAR STALLS. THIS HAPPENS MORE FREQUENTLY GOING UP HILLS. IT HAPPENS MOST OFTEN JUST AS THE CAR IS NEARING NO MOTION OR NO LONGER IN MOTION. A QUICK STOP WILL MAKE IT HAPPEN MORE FREQUENTLY THAN A SLOW GRADUAL STOP. IT DOESN'T MAKE A DIFFERENCE IF THE CAR IS WARMED UP OR IF IT HAS BEEN RUNNING A FREE MINUTES. THE CAR CAN BE GOING STRAIGHT OR TURNING. A SHUDDER CAN BE FELT THEN THE CAR STALLS. THIS HAPPENS SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK. I THINK IT MAY BE THE TORQUE CONVERTER OR SOMETHING IN THE TRANSMISSION. I DON'T THINK IT IS SOMETHING WITH THE FUEL DELIVERY.
OUR 2010 MODEL SUBARU OUTBACK WITH 121,000 MILES BEGAN STALLING WHILE BRAKING AT STOP LIGHTS AND BEHIND OTHERS VEHICLES ALSO BRAKING HARD. WHILE I AM ABLE TO START IT BACK UP IMMEDIATELY, THIS HAS BECOME A CONSISTENT PROBLEM AND I FEEL A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE. I HAVE BEEN LEFT STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC BECAUSE THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME BRAKED HARD. AFTER SPEAKING WITH OUR DEALERSHIP THE RESPONSE WAS THAT WE NEED A NEW TORQUE CONVERTER AND THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE 2010-2012 OUTBACKS. AFTER A SECOND OPINION TO BE SURE, WE ARE HAVING THE TORQUE CONVERTER REPLACE TO THE TUNE OF $2000!! I AM ASKING FOR A RECALL FOR THESE MODELS FROM SUBARU TO PREVENT ANYONE FROM GETTING INJURED FROM THIS CONSISTENTLY-IDENTIFIED DANGER. *TR
CAR PARKED ON SLIGHT UPHILL INCLINE OF HOUSE DRIVEWAY.. STARTED ENGINE, MOVED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SELECTOR TO D(RIVE). TRANSMISSION WENT TO REVERSE. MOVED TRANSMISSION LEVER TO N(EUTRAL) AND BACK TO D. TRANSMISSION AGAIN WENT TO REVERSE. MOVED SELECTOR (SHIFTER) TO P(ARK) AND THEN TO D. THIS TIME THE TRANSMISSION RESPONDED CORRECTLY. CARE WAS STATIONARY DURING THE EVENT.
AFTER SHIFTING FROM P TO R OR D OR FROM D TO R OR R TO D, THE CAR HESITATES 2-3 SECONDS WHEN PULLING AWAY. THE ENGINE SHUDDERS AND USUALLY PULLS AWAY WITH NO PROBLEM. OCCASIONALLY, THE ENGINE STALLS. IT WILL START UP AGAIN IMMEDIATELY. THE TORQUE CONVERTER WAS REPLACED DEC. 2016, BUT THIS PROBLEM IS ACTUALLY WORSE SINCE THE REPAIR.
THE PASSENGER HEADLIGHT HAS WENT OUT AGAIN. THIS SEEMS TO HAPPEN EVERY THREE TO SIX MONTHS THAT EITHER THE DRIVERS SIDE OR PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT BLOWS OUT.
2015 SUBARU OUTBACK. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO REIMBURSEMENT FOR VEHICLE REPAIRS. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED THE REAR BEARINGS WERE GONE AT 65,000 MILES. THE PURCHASED TIRED WER BALD AT 25,000 MILES. THE CONSUMER BELIEVES THIS SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. *JS
DRIVING AND COMING TO A STOP. AT STOP AND ENGINE IDLING, THE ENGINE MISFIRES (STUMBLES) ON OCCASION. IT FEELS AS THOUGH THE ENGINE WILL DIE, BUT THEN IDLES NORMALLY. THIS IS INTERMITTENT AND NO ENGINE LIGHT OR FAULT CODE COMES UP. DEALER UNABLE TO CORRECT BECAUSE THIS HAS NOT HAPPENED WHEN THE CAR IS TAKEN IN FOR SERVICE. I AM AFRAID THE CAR WILL STALL IN TRAFFIC. THIS HAS OCCURRED OVER THE LAST 3-4 YEARS
2010 SUBARU OUTBACK 2.5L CVT AUTOMATIC 126,000 MILES. CAR WILL UNEXPECTEDLY SHUDDER THEN ENGINE WILL QUIT AT LOW RPMS EITHER COMING TO A STOP OR UPON INITIAL ACCELERATION FROM A STOP. SYMPTOMS MIMIC A MANUAL TRANSMISSION CLUTCH SLIPPING/STALLING. ENGINE OPERATING TEMPERATURE HAS NO EFFECT, NOR VEHICLE TURNING, OR VARYING ELECTRICAL LOADS. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION AS IT CAN HAPPEN WHEN PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC OR IN HEAVY TRAFFIC (FOR EXAMPLE) AND IT HAPPENS REPEATEDLY, UNEXPECTEDLY AND RANDOMLY. I URGE THE NHTSA IN THE STRONGEST POSSIBLE TERMS TO ISSUE MANDATORY RECALL AND REPAIR ORDER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE TO PREVENT LOSS OF LIFE AND SERIOUS INJURY. I AM AWARE OF MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS OF THIS PROBLEM. SUBARU HAS ISSUED TSB 16-90-13 WHICH ADDRESSES FAULTY PART REPLACEMENT IN TRANSMISSION TORQUE CONVERTER WITH A NEWLY REDESIGNED PART. HOWEVER, TO MY KNOWLEDGE, OWNERS ARE NOT BEING NOTIFIED OF THIS SERIOUS SAFETY SITUATION, NOR IS SUBURU REPLACING THE PART FREE OF CHARGE IF THE DRIVETRAIN WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED.I HAVE BEEN QUOTED $1200-$ 2000 DOLLARS FOR REPAIRS BY SUBARU. IT IS MY CONCERN THAT SINCE THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT AND EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR, EVEN IF THE OWNERS ARE NOTIFIED BY A VOLUNTARY TSB, THEY MAY NOT GO TO THE EXPENSE TO HAVE IT REPAIRED, RESULTING IN POTENTIAL LOSS OF LIFE AND INJURIES. THIS NEEDS TO BE A MANDATORY RECALL. AS AN ASIDE, I AM AN AIRLINE CAPTAIN AND A FAA CERTIFIED MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN WITH OVER 40 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN MAINTENANCE RELATED SAFETY ISSUES, AND IT IS MY OPINION THAT THIS SITUATION REQUIRES URGENT ACTION ON BEHALF OF NHTSA AND SUBARU. NOTICED A SLIGHT INCREASE IN ENGINE NOISE AND INCREASED TIME TO ACCELERATE, BUT DRIVEABLE. NO DASHBOARD LIGHTS WERE ON. 24 HOURS LATER CAR STALLED OUT WHILE DRIVING STEADILY ABOUT 30 MILES PER HOUR DOWN THE ROAD. PULLED CAR OVER AND HAD CAR TOWED TO SUBARU DEALER. STATED I NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION. I STATED I DRIVE CONSERVATIVELY AND THE CAR HAS LOW MILES, NOT THAT OLD, AND I DON'T HAVE A TOW HOOK UP SO IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE.
OVER HEATING MAYBE HEAD GASKET PROBLEM
DRIVING ON HIGHWAY OR CITY STREETS AND CAR STALLS AND ENGINE TURNS OFF DURING HARD BRAKING. MUST COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND SHIFT TO NEUTRAL OR PARK TO RESTART ENGINE. 120,000 MILES. SUBARU DEALER SAID I NEEDED TO REPLACE TORQUE CONVERTER AND WOULD COST ME $1750.00 DOLLARS. THIS PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES. *TR
CONTACTED PRESTIGE SUBARU, 585 TUNNEL RD, ASHEVILLE, NC 28805 ABOUT SETTING UP APPOINTMENT ON THE OPEN RECALL NOTICE I RECEIVED. AFTER EXPLAINING THE RECALL NOTICE THEY SAID THE EARLIEST APPOINTMENT WOULD BE IN MARCH. I DO NOT FEEL THAT WAITING 3+ MONTHS FOR AN APPOINTMENT IS A TIMELY SOLUTION. I TOLD THEM THAT AND THEY DID NOT CARE.
POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE BACKING UP SLOWLY ON A CITY STREET. HYDRAULIC LINE CORRODED AND BROKE.
LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS HAVE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED 4 TIMES NOW (8 BULBS TOTAL). FIRST TIME, IT BLEW OUT ABOUT A YEAR AFTER PURCHASE. THEN THE SECOND 6 MONTHS AFTER THAT. THIRD TIME ABOUT A YEAR AGO AND THE FOURTH TIME THE HEADLIGHT FAILED WAS TODAY (NOVEMBER, 2016). ALSO MY REAR NIGHT TIME LIGHT ALSO BLEW OUT THIS PAST AUGUST, 2016. WORST PART IS THE DIFFICULTY OF REPLACING THE HEADLIGHTS. YOU HAVE TO REMOVE THE FRONT BUMPER TO GET TO THE HEADLIGHT COMPARTMENT WHICH JUST ADDS TO THE AGGRAVATION. SOMETHING LIKE HEADLIGHTS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED A SAFETY FEATURE THAT NEEDS TO BE EASILY REPLACEABLE BY THE CAR OWNER. REGARDLESS OF THE DIFFICULTY IN REPLACING THE HEADLIGHTS, THESE LIGHTS SHOULD NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED AS FREQUENTLY AS WHAT I'M EXPERIENCING.
THE CAR SHUTTERS OR STALLS WHEN COMING TO A STOP, BOTH REGULAR OR SUDDEN STOP. IT HAPPENS WHEN I PULL UP TO A STOP SIGN, LIGHT OR NEED TO STOP IN HIGHWAY TRAFFIC. IT HAS HAPPENED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS GIVING ME REASON FOR CONCERN FOR MY LIFE AND THE LIVES OF MY PASSENGERS. SUBARU HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A TORQUE CONVERTER. I ALSO HAVE THE DIAGNOSIS OF A FAULTY TORQUE CONVERTER FROM AN INDEPENDENT AUTO MECHANIC. THIS IS A COSTLY REPAIR DUE TO IT'S PROXIMITY TO THE TRANSMISSION.

MY SUBARU OUTBACK SUNROOF HAS LEAKED SINCE THE VERY FIRST WINTER. TOXIC MOLD BUILT UP IN THE HEADLINER, ON THE SEATBELTS AND IN OTHER AREAS. MY WIFE WAS SO SICK AT ONE POINT SHE WAS COUGHING SO HARD SHE THREW UP IN OUR DRIVEWAY AFTER SHE GOT OUT OF THE CAR. SHE WAS SICK FOR YEARS AND WE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT IT WAS. A QUICK SEARCH ON THE INTERNET YIELDED OTHER SUBARU OWNERS WITH SUNROOF LEAKS AND I BELIEVE THAT IT IS RELATED TO THE DESIGN. THE PROBLEM REMAINS UNRESOLVED AND IT IS UNSAFE FOR MY WIFE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. MOLD REPORT ATTACHED. NOT ONLY IS THE MOLD A SAFETY ISSUE, BUT YOU WOULD NOT WANT TO BE IN ON COMING TRAFFIC WITH MY WIFE HACKING AND COUGHING.

MY CAR HAS ONLY 108,650 MILES ON IT AND I WAS TOLD ON 9/19/16 THAT I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION TORQUE CONVERTER. I GOT A SECOND A OPINION WHICH WAS THE SAME AS THE FIRST. MY CAR SHUDDERS, HESITATES AND STALLS WHEN COMING TO A STOP WHICH CREATES A SAFETY HAZARD. IT CREATES GREAT POTENTIAL FOR A REAR END COLLISION. IT STARTED OUT JUST DOING THIS RARELY AND IS HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR ABOUT TWO MONTHS. THE COST TO REPAIR IS $1521.24. WITH THIS LOW OF MILEAGE, I'M TOLD I SHOULD NOT BE HAVING THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM. SUBARU IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AS THEY HAVE ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN (16-90-13R). I RECEIVED NO NOTIFICATION FROM SUBARU AND ONLY FOUND OUT ABOUT THIS WHEN IT STARTED HAPPENING. I GOOGLED THE TERM "TRANSMISSION TORQUE CONVERTER" FOR 2010 SUBARU OUTBACK AND FOUND THIS TO BE A COMMON COMPLAINT. I FEEL THIS SUBARU SHOULD BE RECALLING VEHICLES WITH THIS PROBLEM AND FIXING IT. I BOUGHT MY CAR WHEN IT WAS TWO YEARS OLD AND IT ONLY HAD 57,000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE SINCE DRIVEN IT JUST OVER 50,000 MILES AND DON'T FEEL I SHOULD BE DEALING WITH A PROBLEM OF THIS SEVERITY.
THE BRAKE PIPES CORRODED IN THE SAME LOCATION AS IN THE EARLIER RECALL AT THE 4 CONNECTION COUPLING WHERE THE CENTER PIPE MEETS THE REAR PIPE SECTIONS. THIS ISSUE IS DOCUMENTED IN SUBARU TICKET NUMBER 1-176 88494776.
CAR STARTED STALLING AFTER COMING TO A FULL STOP, AT 88,000 MILES. WAS FINE AT FIRST START UP, AND FINE WHEN BACKING OUT OF A PARKING PLACE OR GARAGE, BUT AFTER DRIVING AND COMING TO A STOP AT A LIGHT OR STOP SIGN, OR WHEN TRYING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN WHEN THERE WAS ONCOMING TRAFFIC (THIS WAS THE REALLY DANGEROUS PART), IT WOULD STALL, REQUIRING ME TO PUT IT IN PARK TO RESTART THE CAR. FIRST CHECK AT SERVICE STATION FOUND NOTHING WRONG IN THE COMPUTER. TOOK TO SUBARU DEALER ON 11/1/2016 AND WAS TOLD I NEEDED A $1,600 REPAIR TO THE TORQUE CONVERTER. *TR
I BOUGHT MY FIRST SUBARU IN 2002. I LOVE IT, A WEEK AFTER I BOUGHT IT I WENT TO CALIFORNIA FROM ST. LOUIS, MO. I DECIDED I WANTED ANOTHER ONE BECAUSE I LOVE SUBARU'S. IT TOOK ME A FEW WEEKS TO FIND THE ONE I WANTED. IT WAS A USED 2010 WITH 84,940 MILES WITH ONE OWNER. NONE SMOKER WHICH I REALLY LOVED. HE TOOK VERY GOOD CARE OF IT. HE TOOK IT IN FOR ALL THE REQUIREMENTS THAT SUBARU HAS. I HAD CAR FAX PRINT OUT SO I KNOW WHAT WAS DONE. NO COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE STALLING WHEN YOU STEPPED ON THE BRAKES. IT WAS ABOUT A WEEK INTO MY OWNERSHIP THAT I NOTICED WHEN I STOPPED THE CAR WOULD START TO VIBRATE AND THEN DIE. THIS IS VERY SCARY BECAUSE THE PERSON BEHIND YOU STARTS HONKING AND I MUST PUT IT INTO PARK AND RESTART IT. THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH START FLASHING WHILE IT IS DYING, A LIGHT GOES ON THAT LOOKS LIKE A CAR SKIDDING. WHEN I START TO FEEL, IT TRYING TO DIE I TAP ON THE BRAKES A FEW TIMES AND MOST OF THE TIME IT WILL KEEP RUNNING. IT IS THE TIMES WHEN IT DIES AND I CAN'T GET IT STARTED FAST ENOUGH CAN BE DANGERS' BECAUSE SOMEONE IS DRIVING FAST BEHIND ME. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME MORE THAN I WANT IT TO. WHEN I GO TO CHURCH THAT IS 10 MILES AWAY IT SEEMS TO STOP A LOT AT THE LIGHT. I JUST WANT SUBARU TO FIX THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM SINCE 2010. I HAVE FOUND SO MANY COMPLAINTS ON ANOTHER SITE, I COPIED THEM AND WILL BE TAKING THEM TO MY SERVICE MAN AND SENDING A LETTER TO THE HQ. I JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. WHEN I HAD MY CAR IN FOR THE 90,000-MILE WORK DONE I TOLD THEM AGAIN. THEY TOLD ME WHEN I PICKED UP THE SUBARU IT WOULD COST ME $1,700.00 TO FIX IT. NO SUBARU NEEDS TO FIX IT SINCE IT HAS BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE DAY ONE. SO MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN PRINTED. SOMEONE EVEN SENT AND TALKED TO HQ BUT NO RECALL HAS HAPPENED. SO, I'M ANGRY THAT THEY HAVE DONE NOTHING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM.

I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT AND THEY SAID THAT THEY HAVE ANOTHER CAR IN THE SHOP RIGHT NOW WITH THE SAME ISSUE.
TAKATA RECALL I RECEIVED A LETTER STATING THAT MY VEHICLE WAS SUBJECT TO THE RECALL FOR PASSENGER AIRBAGS. I CALLED MY LOCAL DEALER (BURLINGTON SUBARU IN BURLINGTON, VT) TO SEE IF THEY HAD AN ESTIMATE ON WHEN IT WOULD BE FIXED. CONTRADICTORY TO THE LETTER THAT I RECEIVED FROM SUBARU (STATING THAT THEY WOULD BE REACHING OUT TO ME WHEN THEY WERE SCHEDULING APPOINTMENTS), MY LOCAL DEALER SAID THAT THEY WERE TAKING "PRE-RESERVATIONS" TO GET THE VEHICLE FIXED. I DIDN'T CALL FOR SEVERAL DAYS AFTER I RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTIFICATION BECAUSE IT DID NOT SEEM TIME SENSITIVE, BUT APPARENTLY THAT WAS THE WRONG COURSE OF ACTION. MY WIFE AND I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR, AND DO NOT LIKE THE WAY THAT SUBARU IS HANDLING THIS. WE SHOULD BE PROVIDED WITH A SAFE RENTAL VEHICLE UNTIL THEY CAN MAKE IT RIGHT.
TAKATA RECALL: I OWN A 2010 SUBARU OUTBACK AND RECEIVED A LETTER FROM SUBARU REGARDING THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V358000 (AIR BAGS). I SPOKE TO MY LOCAL SUBARU DEALER (IN NEW LONDON, CT) AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS NOT YET AVAILABLE, AND THAT THEY HAD NO ESTIMATED TIME AS TO WHEN THE PART WOULD BE AVAILABLE. I BELIEVE THAT SUBARU HAS EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME TO ARRANGE FOR A RECALL REPAIR. I HAVE MADE THE DEALER AWARE OF MY FRUSTRATION. I HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE TO DATE YET. AND THE VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE ON THE SUBARU WEBSITE.
CAR HAS BEEN STALLING WHEN I COME TO A STOP. USUSALLY A QUICK STOP. WE THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE BAD GAS, CLOGGED FUEL INJECTORS WHICH WE HAVE ADDRESSED. STILL STALLING. AFRAID SOMEONE IS GOING TO HIT ME. IT IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE THAT A SERIOUS RECALL SUCH AS THIS DOES NOT YET HAVE A REMEDY. I RECEIVED NOTICE MONTHS AGO AND STILL I HAVE TO DRIVE AROUND CHAUFFEURING ALL OF MY FAMILY MEMBERS AS IT IS NOT SAFE TO RIDE IN THE FRONT SEAT-- COMPLETELY IMPRACTICAL FOR A FAMILY AND I'M ASSUMING MOST SUBARU OWNERS HAVE ONE (THAT'S WHY I GOT ONE). I AM VERY FRUSTRATED THAT THERE IS NOT A SOLUTION. BY THE TIME THERE IS ONE, I'M SURE IT WILL BE IMPOSSIBLE TO GET AN APPOINTMENT TO TAKE CARE OF IT.
LUG STUDS BREAK OFF WHEN REMOVING TO CHANGE TIRE. I HAD A FLAT AND 1 STUD BROKE OFF. I WAS LEFT DRIVING WITH ONLY 4 STUDS. THIS HAS NOW HAPPENED ON 2 OF THE FOUR WHEELS. WHEN INQUIRING WITH THE DEALER I WAS TOLD THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM. THEY ACTUALLY SUGGESTED SELLING ME MORE REPAIR STUDS THAN I NEEDED AS THEY WERE SURE MORE WOULD BREAK OFF.

I CHECKED WHEN I WENT FOR SERVICE I THIN IT WAS IN NOVEMBER 2016. I CALLED RECENTLY ABOUT A MONTH AGO. I WAS TOLD THEY WIL DO BE GIVING OUT ANY LOANERS UNTIL IT IS FIX. I HAVE TO GO OUT OF TOWN IN ABOUT A WEEK. I RECEIVED AND EMAIL ON MARCH 2, 2017 THAT PART ARE NOW AVAILABLE. I ALSO RECEIVED A NOTICE WHEN I CALLED ABOUT A MONTH AGO AND CALL THE DEALERSHIP. I WAS TOLD THE DID RECEIVE SOME AND THEY DID REACH MY NAME YET. IT HAS NOW BEEN OVER 7 MONTHS. THIS IS CAUSING ME A HARDSHIP BECAUSE THEY ASK YOU NOT HAVE ANYONE SEAT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. WHY IS THIS TAKING SO LONE?

EXPLAINED THAT IN OCTOBER MY CAR WAS GOING TO BE SHIPPED FROM ALASKA TO SOUTH DAKOTA (MILITARY PERMANENT CHANGE OF STATION) AND UNABLE TO SHIP IF ANY OPEN UNRESOLVED RECALLS. AS OF TODAY 9/27 I STILL HAVE NOT GOTTEN ISSUE RESOLVED. I CANNOT SHIP MY VEHICLE AND HAVE NO WHERE TO LEAVE IT IN ALASKA AND NO WAY TO GET TO SOUTH DAKOTA. I HAVE NO TRANSPORTATION IN SOUTH DAKOTA TO GET TO WORK IF I DON'T HAVE MY CAR. NEED SOLUTION BEFORE I LEAVE ALASKA 11 OCTOBER.

WE BOUGHT OUR CAR IN 2010 ITS A SUBARU OUTBACK. THERE HAS ALWAYS BEEN AN ISSUE WITH A LOSS OF POWER. THE DEALERSHIP AT THE TIME SAID IT WAS CAUSED BY EXCESSIVE CARBON BUILD UP ON THE PISTONS. ITS NOW 2016 AND THE CAR WILL STUTTER AND SHUT OFF WHEN YOU ARE BRAKING AT RED LIGHTS. TO TRY TO BEAT THE STUTTER AND STALL, I FIND MYSELF HAVING TO EASE OFF THE BRAKES AND TRY TO REAPPLY MY BRAKES TO SEE IF IT WON'T SHUT OFF. I'VE AVOID MANY ACCIDENTS BUT ONE OF THESE DAYS I WON'T BE SO LUCKY. I FEEL A REAR END ACCIDENT IS COMING. THIS STUTTER AND STALL HAPPENS ANY TIME DURING THE DAY AND IN ANY WEATHER. THIS MORNING THERE WAS NO ISSUE, THIS AFTERNOON THERE MIGHT BE. USUALLY ONCE THE CAR STUTTERS AND STALLS THE PROBLEM GOES AWAY FOR THE DAY. I READ SOME OTHER COMPLAINTS ON NHSTA AND THEY ARE REPORTING THEIR SIMILAR ISSUE AS IT BEING A POSSIBLE TORQUE CONVERTER PROBLEM. I'M NOT SURE EITHER WAY SINCE MY MILEAGE PUTS ME OVER THE WARRANTY AND I DON'T WANT AN ACCIDENT TO DEAL WITH I WOULD LIKE TO SEE WHAT ARE OPTIONS TO GETTING THIS PROBLEM TAKEN CARE SINCE ITS BEEN DOING THIS SINCE 2010.
WHEN DRIVING AND APPROACHING A TRAFFIC LIGHT THE CAR WILL BEGIN TO STUTTER AS IF THERE IS A CLOG IN THE SYSTEM. THEN IT WILL SHUT OFF. I CONTACTED SUBARU REGARDING THE ISSUE WHEN WE FIRST HAD THE CAR BECAUSE THERE WAS ALWAYS A LOSS OF POWER. OUR MODEL IS THE OUTBACK 2010. THEY INSPECTED AND SAID IT WAS A CARBON BUILD UP IN THE PISTONS THAT WOULD CAUSE THIS ISSUE. THERE HASN'T BEEN ANY RECALLS OR SUBARU NOTICES ABOUT THIS. NOW WHILE DRIVING AND COMING TO A STOP THE CAR JUST TURNS OFF. ON YOUR SITE NHSTA SOME OTHER CUSTOMERS HAVE BEEN SAYING THAT IT COULD ALSO BE A BAD TORQUE CONVERTER. EITHER WAY THIS ISSUE COULD CAUSE SERIOUS ACCIDENT IF NOT DEALT WITH. THE STUTTER AND SHUTTING OFF HAPPENS ANY TIME OF THE DAY AND COLD OR HOT WEATHER IT DOESN'T MATTER. SOME DAYS IT HAPPENS MORE OFTEN THE OTHERS AND USUALLY AFTER A FEW TIMES OF SHUTTING OFF THE PROBLEM DOES STOP FOR REMAINDER OF THE DAY.

APPARENTLY THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE TO SUBARU SINCE THEY ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN IN 2012 - SERVICE BULLETIN # 16-90-13 DESIGN CHANGE TO LOCK-UP TYPE TORQUE CONVERTER BULLETIN DESCRIPTION: THIS BULLETIN ANNOUNCES THE AVAILABILITY OF A COUNTERMEASURE TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY TO ADDRESS A CUSTOMER CONCERN OF VERY LOW ENGINE RPM WHEN COMING TO A STOP. THE CONDITION IS SIMILAR TO COMING TO A STOP IN A MANUAL TRANSMISSION EQUIPPED VEHICLE WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE CLUTCH PEDAL. THRUST WASHER WEAR INSIDE THE TORQUE CONVERTER CAN CAUSE RESTRICTION OF THE OIL PASSAGE USED TO BLEED OFF LOCK-UP CLUTCH APPLICATION PRESSURE. THE RESULT IS EITHER A DELAYED (MOMENTARY LOW ENGINE RPM) OR NO LOCK-UP PRESSURE RELEASE. THE THRUST WASHER HAS BEEN CHANGED FROM A SOLID BUSHING-TYPE TO A NEEDLE BEARING TYPE. I'M NOT SURE WHY THIS WAS NOT A RECALL SINCE STALLING SHOULD BE CONSIDERED A SAFETY ISSUE.

AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE WAS STILL BEING EXPERIENCED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,437.
MY LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS LAST 3-6 MONTHS. I'VE REPLACED BOTH DRIVERS SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE FIVE TIMES IN THREE YEARS.
REPLACEMENT OF HEADLIGHT BULB REQUIRES REMOVAL OF WHEEL AND PARTIAL REMOVAL OF WHEEL WELL. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY DESIGN FLAW. HEADLIGHTS ARE OBVIOUSLY A KEY SAFETY FEATURE AND REPLACEMENT OF THE BULBS SHOULD NOT REQUIRE SERVICE AT AN AUTO REPAIR FACILITY. ONE BURNED OUT BULB RENDERS THE CAR UNUSABLE FOR NIGHT AND FOUL WEATHER DRIVING. THIS DESIGN FLAW NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED AND OWNERS SHOULD BE REIMBURSED FOR LABOR CHARGES INCURRED FOR REPLACEMENT OF BULBS.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND MORE COOLANT NEEDED TO BE ADDED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER THE VEHICLE OVERHEATED WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ANOTHER DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BOTH HEAD GASKETS HAD BLOWN, THE RADIATOR WAS CRACKED, AND THE WATER PUMP HAD MALFUNCTIONED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 72,000.

AS DESIGNED, IF HEADLIGHTS FAIL WHILE TRAVELING AT NIGHT IT IS ESSENTIALLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR THE DRIVER TO REPLACE THEM TO SAFELY CONTINUE THE VOYAGE. THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL AND DEALERS SHOULD REPLACE BULBS AT NO COST FOR SERVICE (PARTS ONLY).
