MY CAR WAS CALLED BACK YEARS AGO BUT NEVER SERVICED . THEY SAID THEY'D CALL NEVER DID. NOW I'M EXPIERIENCING PROBLEMS VITH MY CAR. IT HAS BEEN AN EXCELLENT CAR AND WOULDN'T TRADE IT FOR ANYTHING. IT'S A 2001 GRAND VITARA STANDARD AND IT CRANKS BUT WON'T START. IT'S HAPPEND BEFORE. MY GAS PEDDLE GOES ALL THE WAY ON THE FLOOR. DOESN'T FEEL RIGHT. FEELS AS IF A LINE WAS BROKEN. THE CAR USE TO SHIFT TO THE SIDE WHEN HITTING THE BRAKES. CAN YOU HELP? WHAT IS IT? I HAVEN'T BEEN SBLE TO USE MY CAR FOR A WEEK.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 SUZUKI GRAND VITARA. THE CONTACT WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH AND CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY UNTIL MOMENTS AFTER IMPACT. THE PASSENGER WAS PROPELLED INTO THE WINDSHIELD AND SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE KNEE, FINGERS AND FACE. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE STERNUM. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NEITHER DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED TO DETERMINE THE AIR BAG FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 85,000. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE CHEST AND STERNUM WHILE THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED A FACIAL INJURY FROM STRIKING THE WINDSHIELD. THE CONTACT AND THE PASSENGER WERE BOTH TRANSPORTED TO A HOSPITAL. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT DID NOT CALL THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING THE AIR BAG FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 SUZUKI GRAND VITARA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT UNKNOWN SPEEDS AND PULLING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME VERY HARD TO TURN AND THE VEHICLE ALMOST TURNED OVER WHEN THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE PROCEEDED TO ACCELERATE WHILE THE BRAKES WERE ENGAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS STEERED INTO THE BUSHES TO AVOID A CRASH AND WAS THEN SHUTDOWN WITH THE KEYS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE THROTTLE BODY HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 78,400. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 SUZUKI GRAND VITARA XL7. WHILE DRIVING LESS THAN 55 MPH, THE PASSENGER SIDE BRAKES LOCKED WHILE THE DRIVER ATTEMPTED TO AVOID A SWERVING VEHICLE. TWO OF THE BRAKE LINES FAILED AND THE VEHICLE SWERVED UNCONTROLLABLY TO THE RIGHT. THE HOSES ALSO BLEW OUT AND LEFT THE VEHICLE WITHOUT ANY BRAKES. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD TO SAFETY. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V452000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:DISC:ROTOR). THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO PAY MORE THAN $200 TO REPLACE THE BRAKES. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 100,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 SUZUKI GRAND VITARA XL-7. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP IS BURNING INSIDE THE GAS TANK, WHICH CAUSES NO CONNECTION TO THE BATTERY OF THE VEHICLE. SUZUKI ADVISED HIM TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE IS NOT DRIVABLE. HE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL FOR A FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR. THE CONTACT HAS NOT HAD THE RECALL SERVICED FOR HIS VEHICLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 167,000.
DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 21 IN OHIO. I HEARD A FUNNY NOISE COMING FROM DRIVER SIDE BACK. DOING 60 MILES AN HOUR AND MY BACK DRIVER SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT. NO ACCIDENT. *NM
I PURCHASED A 2001 SUZUKI GRAND VITARTA WITH 8000 MILES. AT 24,500 MILES THE ENGINE BEGAN TO HAVE NOISE. TOOK TO DEALER WHO STATED IT WAS TIMING CHIN TENSIONER. THEY REPLACED 2 TENSIONERS AT THE DEALERS EXPENSE. I HAVE PUT AN ADDITIONAL 5000 MILES ON THE CAR AND THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE BACK. I HAVE RESEARCHED THE TENSIONERS AND FOUND 100'S OF COMPLAINTS ON THE SAME PART. SUZUKI HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL ON THIS ITEM AS OF YET, HOWEVER IF THE TIMING CHAIN SHOULD BREAK, ACCIDENTS CAN OCCUR. I HAVE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALER IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS AND AM NOT SURE IF THE PROBLEM WITH BE FIXED AND IS SO AT WHOSE EXPENSE. THE CLOSEST DEALERSHIP IS 65 MILES AWAY. THERE HAVE ALSO BEEN TSB ON THIS PART SO SUZUKI IS WELL AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. *NM

MY WIFE'S 2001 SUZUKI XL-7 HAS MADE AN ENGINE NOISE SINCE SHE BOUGHT IT. WE HAD IT SERVICED AT 32,000 MILES FOR A RECALL AND NOTHING WAS SAID BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT ( STILL UNDER WARRANTY ) AGAIN AT 64,000 PLUS WE HAD IT SERVICED AND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED A NEW TIMING BELT TESIONER PUT ON FOR AROUND $1300.00 DOLLARS. I CALLED THE CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND THEY SAID TO GO BY A DEALERSHIP AND GET THE DISTRICT MANAGER'S NUMBER TO TALK TO HIM ABOUT THE PROBLEM. I DID , AND I CALLED : ONLY TO BE TOTALLY DISRESPECTED BY THE DISTRICT MANAGER ([XXX]) , HE REALLY DIDN'T LIKE THE FACT THAT I GOT HIS PHONE NUMBER AND TOLD ME SO ; I HOPE HE LIKES IT NOW! THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WHERE WE BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE HAS REALLY NOT SHOWN ANY CONCERN ABOUT MY FAMILY HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE EITHER SO I'M TELLING EVERYONE THAT DONALD CRAIG SUZUKI IN MOORESVILLE , NC COULD CARE LESS ABOUT YOUR PROBLEMS AFTER YOU BUY A CAR FROM THEM AND THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT IS EVEN WORSE. THEIR SERVICE MANAGER HASN'T BOTHERED TO EVEN CONTACT ME EVEN AFTER A COMPLAINT TO THE DISTRICT MANAGER ( WHO'S A REAL JERK) AND A COMPLAINT TO SUZUKI'S CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS. THE TIMING CHAIN SNAPPED WHILE TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE CAUSING THE ENGINE TO CEASE. THE DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE AND CHAIN WAS $3600. THIS VEHICLE IS 38 MONTHS OLD WITH 52,000 MILES OF WEAR: 2001 SUZUKI XL7. *JB
THE TIMING TENSIONER FAILED, CAUSING THE TIMING CHAIN TO MALFUNCTION. THIS CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE LEFT THREE CYLINDERS. THERE WAS A LOSS OF PROPER TIMING, AND VALVES TENSIONERS STARTED TO KNOCK. *AK
WHILE PULLING INSIDE OF THE CAR PORT VEHICLE ACCELERATED UNCONTROLLABLE, AND HIT A BRICK WALL. NO INJURIES REPORTED. UPON IMPACT, BOTH FRONTAL AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE SECOND INCIDENT OCCURRED WHEN CONSUMER WAS BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND VEHICLE ACCELERATED BACKWARDS .IN BOTH INCIDENTS CONSUMER STEPPED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL IN ORDER TO STOP. HOWEVER, VEHICLE CONTINUED TO SPEED. CONSUMER TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF, AND TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. CONSUMER INFORMED THE MECHANIC THAT THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED MORE THAN ONCE, AND HAD NOT BEEN RESOLVED. *AK

THE CLOCK SPRING SWITCH FAILED. AS A RESULT, AIR BAG SENSOR LIGHT CAME ON. CONSUMER WAS CONCERNED THAT THE AIR BAG WILL NOT DEPLOY UPON IMPACT. *AK
CONSUMER RECEIVED NHTSA RECALL 03V51200 IN FEBRUARY 2004 ON THE ACCELERATOR CABLE CASING CAP THAT WAS ATTACHED TO THE FIREWALL. DEALERSHIP DID NOT HAVE THE PARTS AVAILABLE TO CONDUCT RECALL REPAIRS. *AK
THE REAR DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT TWISTED AROUND THE CHILD'S WAIST. AS A RESULT, THE CHILD WAS TRAPPED FOR 7 HOURS. THE CONSUMER HAD TO CUT THE SEAT BELT IN ORDER TO RELEASE THE CHILD. *AK *SC *JB

2001 SUZUKI GRAND VITARA INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT AND NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. *MR CONSUMER WAS HIT ON THE REAR BY ANOTHER VEHICLE, WHICH CAUSED CONSUMER TO SLIDE AND SPIN. AFTER THE SPIN, VEHICLE HIT A WALL HEAD ON CAUSING MAJOR DAMAGE ON THE FRONT END. THE AIRBAGS AND MODULE WHERE FULLY INTACT AND HAD NO SIGN OF BEING TAMPERED PRIOR TO ACCIDENT. *LA

WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH ACCELERATOR PEDAL STICKS WITHOUT WARNING. IN ORDER TO STOP ACCELERATION VEHICLE HAS TO BE SHUT OFF. *AK

DRIVELINE VIBRATION AT OVER 57 MPH. 24,000 MILES. DEALER SAYS THERE IS NOTHING WRONG, ITS NORMAL FOR THAT VEHICLE! LOOKING AT IT ON LIFT FOR A HOUR, CHECKED TIRE PRESSURE, SAYS EVERYTHING IS NORMAL. THERE IS A DRONING TYPE NOISE DEFINITELY DRIVELINE RELATED, ANY PASSENGER WITH THEIR EYES CLOSED CAN TELL WHEN YOU ARE GOING OVER 57 MPH. EITHER DRIVESHAFT PROBLEMS OR TRANSMISSION, TRANSFER CASE,REAR END PROBLEM. ORIGINAL TIRES HYDROPLANING AT 24,000 MILES. HAD TO REPLACE TIRES, ALSO ALIGNMENT WAS OFF VEHICLE PULLS TO SIDE. SECOND DEALER ALSO SAYS THERE IS NO PROBLEM. *NLM
FRONT WINDSHIELD FOGGED WHEN USING THE DEFROSTER, CAUSING POOR VISIBILITY. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. MR ALL THE WINDOWS WILL FOG OVER AT THE SLIGHTEST CHANGE IN WEATHER EVEN WITH THE DEFOGGER ON HIGH POWER. *JG

SEAT BELT ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. WHEN LOCKING THE SEAT BELT BELT WILL GET STUCK, AND CONSUMER IS NOT ABLE TO TAKE BELT OFF. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER IS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING. *AK

COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE ON 5 SEPARATE OCCASIONS BEGINNING AT ABOUT 400 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AND CONTINUING TO PRESENT DATE. FAILURE HAS RESULTED IN BEING UNABLE TO STOP UNTIL ROLLING THRU INTERSECTIONS...SO FAR NO ACCIDENT. VEHICLE HAS BEEN BACK TO DEALER FOR PROBLEM 4 TIMES, MOST RECENTLY DURING NOVEMBER. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER SEEM INCLINED TO IGNORE THE PROBLEM DESPITE THE POTENTIAL FOR DISASTER FOR MY FAMILY. PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE IN THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM--DRIVER CAN FEEL ABS SHUTTLE VALVES CHATTERING (OPENING & CLOSING) AS IF THE SYSTEM SENSES A SKID ON BOTH SIDES, RESULTING IN BOTH SIDE BRAKES RELEASING SIMULTANEOUSLY. CONSEQUENTLY, VEHICLE BRAKING IS NEAR NIL, ONLY MEANS TO STOP THE VEHICLE IS TO MANUALLY OVERRIDE THE HYDRAULICS. OVERRIDE REQUIRES FULL STRENGTH FROM DRIVER WITH FOOT ON BRAKE PEDAL, AND STILL NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO STOP THE CAR. EACH INCIDENT HAS, THUS FAR, TAKEN PLACE AT SLOW SPEEDS AND HAS OCCURRED WITHIN 15 MINUTES OF FIRST ENGINE START OF THE DAY. IF THIS PROBLEM HAPPENED AT HIGH SPEED OR AT A CRITICAL STOP INCIDENT IT WOULD ALMOST CERTAINLY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THIS VEHICLE IS SCARY, AND SUZUKI [KATHY AT (800) 934 0934 ] PROMISED BACK ON NOVEMBER 21, 2001 TO INTERCEDE WITH DEALER TO GET THE PROBLEM CORRECTED. THUS FAR NEITHER DEALER NOR SUZUKI MOTOR COMPANY HAS BOTHERED TO CONTACT US. FOUR ATTEMPTS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM ARE 3 TIMES TOO MANY. THIS CAR IS DANGEROUS, BUT WE HAVE NO ALTERNATIVE BUT TO DRIVE IT UNTIL A LOANER VEHICLE IS PROVIDED BY THE DEALER/MFGR WHILE THIS ONE IS REPAIRED OR REPLACED. TOOK THE DEALER 4 ATTEMPTS TO GET THE FRONT END ALIGNED, AND IT STILL PULLS TO THE RIGHT, JUST THE SAME AS IT DID WHEN WE PICKED IT UP NEW. THUS, NOT MUCH CONFIDENCE ON THAT SERVICE DEPARTMENT BEING ABLE TO FIX THIS SERIOUS PROBLEM. THUS FAR, FAILED ON 4 TRIES. PROMISED SUZUKI REGIONAL REP WOULD CONTACT ME THE DAY AFTER I TURNED THE CAR IN EARLIER THIS MONTH--HE DIDN'T--P/U10 DAYS LATER BRAKES FAILED AGAIN IN 2 DAYS.
A BURNING ODOR IN THE CAR FOR OVER A YEAR. HAVE TAKEN IT TO DEALERSHIP TWICE. HAVE SPOKEN WITH SUZUKI COMPANY WHO HAS TOLD ME TO CONTINUE TAKING IT TO DEALER. THE DEALER ONLY STEAM CLEANS THE ENGINE. *NLM

MY 9 YEAR OLD WAS SITTING IN THE BACK RIGHT SEAT WHEN THE DOOR CAME OPEN WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I HAD NO WARNING THAT SHE HAD NOT CLOSED THE DOOR PROPERLY. WHAT I LEARNED IS THAT THE THE DOME LIGHT WILL STAY ON IF THE DOOR IS NOT SHUT ALL THE WAY. HOWEVER THIS IS NOT AN EFFECTIVE MEANS DURING THE DAY.*AK

I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT AIR CONDITIONING FOR OVER A MONTH NOW. THE CONDINSER FOR THE SYSTEM IS SUPPOSIDLY ON BACK ORDER; HOWEVER, NEITHER THE DEALER OR THE MANUFACTURE WILL PROVIDE ALTERNATE TRANSPORTATION. I LIVE IN AN ARE WHERE THE TEMPERATURE IS IN THE 90'S TO 100'S, AND HAVE GOTTEN HEAT EXHAUSTION ON THE FREEWAY CAUSING A SCARY SITUATION. I AM VERY UNHAPPY.
