THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AT A STOP LIGHT. AS THE LIGHT CHANGED, I BELIEVE THAT I TOOK MY FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKE AND THE CAR STARTED ACCELERATING. I TRIED TO PUT THE FOOT BACK ON THE BRAKE BUT I HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME BEFORE THE CAR STOPPED. I CANNOT BE 100% CERTAIN THAT THERE WAS NOT HUMAN ERROR INVOLVED, BUT ALL I REMEMBER IS FEELING THE ACCELERATION AND TRYING TO BRAKE AND BEING UNABLE TO STOP.
COMPUTER OCCASIONALLY CRASHES AND COMPROMISES THE SAFETY OF VEHICLE BECAUSE OF A DEFECT. ALSO DOOR HANDLES, ALL 4 HAVE BROKEN COMPROMISING SAFETY, BECAUSE OF MANUFACTURER DEFECT.
SLOW DRIVING IN THE VILLAGE. AT A SHARP TURN TO RIGHT (AFTER THE STOP SIGN) I HEARD SCRATCHING THE FRONT RIGHT WHEEL ON THE CHASSIS. IT WAS DARK AND I DID NOT FIND SOMETHING STRANGE SO I DROVE SLOWLY TO MY HOUSE, WHERE I HAD A CLOSER LOOK: ONE PHOTO IS THE GOOD SUSPENSION ON THE LEFT AND THE OTHER IS THE BROKEN ON THE RIGHT.
THE SCREENS ON THE CAR REGULARLY REACT SLUGGISHLY AND SOMETIMES LOCK UP REQUIRING A REBOOT. THIS CAN HAPPEN WHETHER THE VEHICLE IS PARKED OR IN MOTION
THE MAIN INSTRUMENT PANEL (CALL THE MEDIA CONTROL UNIT OR "MCU") EVENTUALLY FAILS IN ALL OLDER TESLAS (PRE 2018) DUE TO A DEFECT IN THE DESIGN OF MCU AND OVERUSE BY EXCESSIVE WRITING OF DATA TO THE MEMORY WITH FIRMWARE UPDATES AS WELL AS LOGGING FOR TESLA'S OWN PURPOSES. THE CONSUMER HAS NO ABILITY TO TURN OFF UPDATES OR LOGGING WHICH MEANS THAT TESLA IS CAUSING THE FAILURES WITH ITS OWN ACTIONS. THE MCU HAS BEEN SHOWN TO FAIL WITHIN APPROXIMATELY 4-5 YEARS (OR RIGHT AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRES). THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE AS ONCE THE MCU FAILS, MANY FUNCTIONS OF THE CAR FAIL. THIS INCLUDES THE BACKUP CAMERA, THE AUDIO INDICATORS FOR TURN SIGNALS AND OTHER ALERTS, CLIMATE CONTROL, AS WELL AS THE SAFETY MONITORS ASSOCIATED WITH "AUTO-PILOT" (E.G. ALL RESTRICTIONS ARE REMOVED). TESLA'S POSITION IS THAT THE CONSUMER MUST PAY TO REPLACE THE MCU ONCE IT FAILS IF THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY. THEY HAVE UPGRADED THE MCU DESIGN AND LOGGING PROCESS FOR NEWER TESLAS (POST 2018) BUT ALL CARS FROM 2012 TO 2018 ARE AFFECTED BY THE ORIGINAL DEFECTIVE DESIGN AND PROCESS. HENCE, THIS PETITION IS TO REQUIRE TESLA TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE DEFECT IN THE ORIGINAL MCU AND REPLACE VIA RECALL, AND/OR COMPENSATE CUSTOMERS WHO WERE FORCED TO PAY FOR REPLACEMENT.
The contact owns a 2015 Tesla Model S. The contact stated while adjusting the temperature in the vehicle, the infotainment screen froze. The contact stated that several minutes later the screen started operating normally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the dealer stated that the screen and the console needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 168,000.

THAT IS THE BOUNDARY WHERE THE TWO SIDES OF THE MOLD TRIED TO JOIN, AND DIDN'T QUITE FULLY JOIN BEFORE STARTING TO COOL AND CRYSTALLIZE. I AM NOT A CASTING EXPERT, BUT MY LIMITED EXPERIENCE WOULD SUGGEST THEY NEED NEED TO INCREASE THE POOL OF METAL ABOVE THE PART SO THIS SECTION CAN FULLY JOIN TOGETHER, OR POUR THAT END AS A SOLID, AND THEN DRILL THE HOLE OUT DURING MACHINING. PROBABLY DOING BOTH SHOULD YIELD THE PROPERTIES THAT THEY NEED. MY MCU FAILED IN JANUARY 2020 AND I WAS CHARGED $1,429.73 FOR REPLACEMENT. I FOUND A NEWS ARTICLE TODAY THAT NHTSA IS INVESTIGATING THIS ISSUE, I WANTED TO ADD MY COMPLAINT AS WELL. THERE WAS NO INCIDENT PRECEDING THE FAILURE, IT JUST WENT DARK ONE DAY. AS A RESULT HEATING/COOLING, NAVIGATION, AUDIO, ETC. WERE UNAVAILABLE WHILE I WAITED A MONTH FOR THE SERVICE APPOINTMENT. *TR

THE CINCH MOTOR THAT HOLD THE REAR TRUNK CLOSED HAD MALFUNCTIONED. THE TRUNK WILL NO LONGER CLOSE FULLY. IT RATTLES CONSTANTLY AND WARNING SOUNDS GO OFF FOR THE FIRST MINUTE OF DRIVING. THE TRUNK COULD FLY OPEN WHEN I GO OVER BUMPS. IT IS GOING TO TAKE TESLA OVER TWO WEEKS TO REPAIR. AND THEY ARE GOING TO CHARGE SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR THE REPAIR. I BELIEVE A RECALL IS IN ORDER, GIVEN THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND A SAFETY ISSUE.
I WAS TURNING INTO A PARKING LOT ON FRIDAY, OCT. 2, 2020, WHEN SUDDENLY I HEARD A GRINDING NOISE FROM THE FRONT RIGHT WHEEL. AFTER PARKING, I COULDN'T SEE ANYTHING WRONG. WHEN I LEFT, THE NOISE CONTINUED, AND ALTHOUGH THE CAR WAS DRIVEABLE (LESS THAN 25 MPH), THE GRINDING NOISE CONTINUED WHENEVER I TURNED THE WHEELS AT ALL. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ONLY ABOUT A MILE FROM THE LOCAL TESLA SERVICE CENTER SO I DROVE THE CAR DIRECTLY THERE. ALTHOUGH THE CAR DID TURN, IT WAS NOT TURNING AS SHARPLY AS IT SHOULD. BUT IT WAS ENOUGH TO GET ME THERE AND INTO THE PARKING LOT SAFELY. AT THAT POINT, THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE LOOKED LIKE IT WAS PUSHED BACK AGAINST THE REAR OF THE TIREWELL. WE LOOKED UNDER THE CAR AND SAW A DETACHED CONTROL ARM ON THE RIGHT SIDE. THEY FIXED THE PART AND RETURNED THE CAR TO ME THE FOLLOWING WEEK.
ON JANUARY 2, 2019 BETWEEN 1:45 AND 2 PM I DROVE FROM MY HOUSE INTO A CLINIC PARKING LOT. AS I DROVE MY 2015 TESLA MODEL S FORWARD AND STEERED TO THE RIGHT INTO A PARKING SPOT, I CONSCIOUSLY EASED MY RIGHT FOOT OFF FROM THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THUS LOWERING MY SPEED FROM 10-9 MPH TO ABOUT 5-6 MPH. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS NOT PRESSED, ALLOWING REGENERATIVE BREAKING TO SLOW DOWN THE VEHICLE. ABOUT A SECOND INTO THE PARKING TURN, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY JOLTED FORWARD, ACCELERATING UNEXPECTEDLY. I FELT AS IF THE BRAKES FAILED TO WORK WHEN I REFLEXIVELY REMOVED MY RIGHT FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR, AND STOMPED THE BRAKE PEDAL AS HARD AS I COULD. MY VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP ONLY AFTER COLLIDING WITH A CHEVROLET SPORTS UTILITY VEHICLE PARKED IN THE SPOT ACROSS. AS I REGAINED MY BEARINGS, I CAUGHT MYSELF STILL FLOORING THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH MY RIGHT FOOT, AND CONTINUED TO FLOOR IT UNTIL I AFTER I HAD SHIFTED IT INTO PARKING GEAR, AND MADE SURE THERE WAS NOBODY WALKING IN THE VICINITY. THE IMPACT FROM THE TESLA MODEL S BUMPED THE CHEVROLET SUV PARKED IN FRONT ABOUT 5 FEET BACK. THE MODEL S ITSELF STOPPED BETWEEN 2-3 FEET INTO THE NEXT PARKING SPACE, SLIGHTLY INTO THE OPPOSING PARKING SPACE ON THE RIGHT SIDE, AS SEEN IN THE INCLUDED PHOTOS. THIS WOULD INDICATE THE BRAKES **EVENTUALLY** WORKED. HAD THEY NOT, THE TESLA WOULD HAVE BEEN EXPECTED TO ROLL FORWARD AND INTO THE SUV'S BUMPER AFTER THE COLLISION. THIS IS CALLED TESLA CREEP MODE, WHICH I HAVE ENABLED (SLOWLY ROLL FORWARD WHILE NO PEDAL IS PRESSED). I ASKED THE POLICE OFFICER TO POSITION HIS PATROL CAR BEHIND MY VEHICLE BEFORE I MOVED IT AND ADVISED THE POLICE OFFICER I DID NOT TRUST THE CAR. I USED AN APP TO CALL FOR A TOW THROUGH MY INSURANCE, BUT THE TOW'S NUMBER WAS DISCONNECTED. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE OFF WITH THE PATROL CAR IN ESCORT.
CAR FREQUENTLY REBOOTS ITSELF, TURNS OFF OR JUST BLANKS THE SCREEN. TOUCHSCREEN DRIVERS MANUAL CANNOT BE ACCESSED OR IF IT DOES, TAKES AN EXTREMELY LONG TIME. THIS CAR EXHIBITS CHARACTERISTICS REFERENCED IN ONLINE POSTS AND FORUMS ABOUT EMMC FAILURE.
2015 MODEL S 85D WAS REVERSED ONTO DRIVEWAY THEN PLACED IN PARK AND DOORS WERE CLOSED AND LOCKED. A FEW MOMENTS LATER THE VEHICLE STARTED ACCELERATING FORWARD TOWARDS THE STREET AND CRASHED INTO A PARKED CAR. FRONT WHEELS WERE RECEIVING POWER WHILE REAR WHEELS WHERE LOCKED AND DRAGGING RATHER THAN WHEELS SPINNING. I REVERSED VEHICLE BACK ONTO DRIVEWAY AND IT HAPPENED ANOTHER 2 TIMES AFTER FIRST INCIDENT WITHIN A 30 MINTUE TIME SPAN.
TESLA HAS REDUCED THE CHARGING CAPACITY AND CHARGE RATE PER: RE: NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: DP19005 - INVESTIGATION SUBJECT : BATTERY MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE UPDATES PRIOR TO THIS SOFTWARE UPDATE, THE CHARGE RATE WAS DOUBLE THE SHOWN RATE.
12V BATTERY HAS STARTED FAILING, BEEN OVER 2 MONTHS, TESLA KEEPS CANCELLING APPOINTMENTS TO FIX. CAR IS GOING TO DIE ON THE ROAD ON ME.
THE TRUNK SENSOR MALFUNCTIONED RESULTING IN THE TRUNK REGISTERING AS OPEN BUT BEING CLOSED. AS THERE ARE 3RD ROW SEATS IN THE TRUNK THIS MAKES IT PASSENGER SPACE AND THE EMERGENCY TRUNCK OPEN DID NOT WORK, MANUAL OPEN DID NOT WORK, KEY FOB OPEN DID NOT WORK RESULTING IN THE TRUNK PASSENGER COMPARTMENT BEING LOCKED SHUT WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR CHILDREN IN IT WITH NO WAY TO GET THEM OUT OTHER THAN TO SMASH THE REAR WINDOW. THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFTEY RISK!
THE FRONT OF THE CAR WILL EMIT A LOUD BUZZING NOISE
THE MEDIA CONTROL UNIT IN THE CAR IS EQUIPPED WITH A LOGGING CHIP THAT WILL CAUSE THE UNIT TO FAIL AFTER A SPECIFIC AMOUNT OF REWRITES. THIS IS TYPICAL FOR CARS AT OR NEAR 50,000 MILES. EVEN AFTER BEING REPLACED THE UNIT IS NOT WITHOUT FLAWS. THE SAME ISSUE IS LIKELY TO HAPPEN AGAIN IN THE SAME AMOUNT OF TIME AFTERWARDS. WITH THE MCU NOT OPERATIONAL THE CAR TAKES AN EXTENDED AMOUNT OF TIME TO BE ABLE TO DRIVE. ADDITIONALLY YOU LOSE ACCESS TO CLIMATE CONTROL, MUSIC OR MEDIA OF ANY KIND, NO ACCESS TO NAVIGATION, AND MANY OTHER SAFETY AND DRIVING OPTIONS THAT THE CAR IS SUPPOSED TO BE EQUIPPED WITH. THE UNIT IS ALSO SUSCEPTIBLE TO HEAT. MANY OF THESE UNITS HAVE BUBBLES ON THE SCREEN DUE TO USING SUBPAR GLUE THAT ADHERES THE LCD SCREEN TO ITS INTERNAL COMPONENTS. WHEN THE GLUE FAILS THE LIQUID INSIDE DRAINS OUT AND INTO THE INTERNAL AREA OF THE MCU. THE SAME IS TO BE SAID FOR THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SCREEN. BOTH SCREENS UTILIZE THE SAME POOR PERFORMING ADHESIVE. THE COMPANY SHOULD RECALL THESE UNITS AND REPLACE THEM WITH THE APPROPRIATE HARDWARE TO REPLACE THEM. I'M NOT SURE IF THE LIQUID IN THE SCREENS IS TOXIC OR NOT, BUT ON MY LAST VISIT TO THE SERVICE CENTER THEY TRIED TO CONVINCE ME TO CHANGE THE SCREEN OUT BECAUSE "YOU DON'T WANT TO BE BREATHING ANY OF THOSE FUMES". THIS RAISED AWARENESS THAT I COULD POTENTIALLY BE BREATHING IN TOXIC CHEMICALS WHILE SIMPLY DRIVING MY CAR.
TRY TO BACK UP & CAR WILL AUTOMATICALLY GO INTO PARK. HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY -~20 TIMES OVER LAST ? 45 DAYS, DID NOT RAISE MY BODY TO LOOK OVER SHOULDER. LAST FRIDAY, I WAS ON THE ON RAMP OF A INTERSTATE (I-5), & THE CAR WENT FROM DRIVE TO PARK. FIRST & ONLY TIME THIS HAS OCCURRED.
THIS IS A COMPLAINT ABOUT A 2015 TESLA 85D THE FULL VIN OF THE AFFECTED CAR IS UNAVAILABLE SO I HAVE USED THE VIN OF A SIMILAR CAR IN ORDER TO MAKE THE COMPLAINT. I MANAGED TO REGAIN CONTROL BY LETTING GO THE THE BRAKES! I WAS VERY LUCKY THAT THE CAR IN FRONT DIDN'T SLOW DOWN - IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A CHOICE BETWEEN THE CRASH BARRIER & THE CAR IN FRONT TO HIT! FORTUNATELY IT WAS LATE EVENING BUT STILL HAD A NUMBER OF NEAR MISSES GETTING ACROSS 5 LANES TO THE HARD SHOULDER. I WAITED 9 HOURS ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO GET RECOVERED BY THE AA. THE AA WAS CONVINCED I MUST HAD HIT SOMETHING FOR THIS TYPE OF DAMAGED TO HAVE OCCURRED, HE HAD A CLOSER LOOK AND WAS SHOCKED THAT HE COULDN'T FIND ANY SIGN OF ANY IMPACT. THIS HAPPENED AT 4YRS & 11HRS OLD / 55,000 MILES AND JUST PASSED AN MOT TWO WEEKS PRIOR, SO NO SIGN OF ANY DAMAGE THEN. MINE IS A NOV 2015 85D VIN 96,XXX MY CAR IS JUST OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE SC MANAGER WAS QUITE RUDE & ABRUPT. THEY REPEATED 5+ TIMES THAT MY CAR IS OUT OR WARRANTY. I'M LUCKY NOT TO HAVE INJURED MYSELF OR OTHERS. CRITICAL SUSPENSION ARMS SHOULDN'T FAIL SO EARLY ON, CONSIDERING THIS IS KNOWN ISSUE I EXPECT TESLA TO FIX THIS FOC & REPLACE THE OTHER FRONT FOREARM AS PRECAUTION. **** IT IS UNLIKELY THAT THIS UK OWNER WILL FILE A NHTSA REPORT. THE MCU (MAIN SCREEN/COMPUTER) FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ALL THE MCU FUNCTIONS DID NOT WORK DURING THE FAILURE. SEE PHOTOS OF THE BLANK SCREEN AND CORRESPONDENCE WITH TESLA SERVICE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 TESLA MODEL S. WHILE DRIVING 65-70 MPH FOR THIRTY MINUTES WITH THE AUTO PILOT ENGAGED, THE VEHICLE SPONTANEOUSLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF A 2015 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT LOT. THE CONTACT CALLED TESLA (6701 AMADOR PLAZA RD, DUBLIN, CA 94568, (925) 361-1173) AND INFORMED THEM OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000. *DT*JB *BF*JB
WHEN OUR BATTERY CHARGES TO 100% CAPACITY, IT SUDDENLY SHOWS ONLY 219 RANGE MILES, WHEN EARLIER IN OCTOBER, IT SHOWED 267 MILES AT 97% CHARGED CAPACITY. (OVER THE 1.8 YEARS OF OWNING THIS CAR, 267-270 WAS THE USUAL RANGE WHEN 100% CHARGED.) THE HOME CHARGING UNIT WAS OVERHEATING CAUSING A FAILURE OF THE MAIN CIRCUIT BREAKER FOR MY HOUSE. THE WEAR ON THE MAIN CIRCUIT BREAKER WAS SEVERE ENOUGH THAT THE BREAKER HAD TO BE REPLACED OR WOULD HAVE BEEN A FIRE HAZARD FOR THE HOUSE. THE CAR WAS NOT MOVING AND IN THE GARAGE AT THE TIME.
LOCATION: CAR PARKED IN OWNER'S DRIVEWAY. CENTER SCREEN HAD BECOME NOTICEABLE SLOWER OVER A FEW WEEKS AND THE OWNER'S MANUAL WHICH IS NORMALLY SHOWN ON THE SCREEN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. I ATTEMPTED TO REBOOT THE SYSTEM BY HOLDING DOWN TWO BUTTONS ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE CENTER SCREEN WOULD NOT REBOOT. RATHER, THE CENTER SCREEN WENT AND STAYED TOTALLY BLACK. I CONTACTED TESLA PHONE SERVICE AND TESLA PHONE SERVICE CENTER COULD NOT CONTACT THE CAR. CENTER SCREEN REMAINED COMPLETELY BLACK. WHEN TRYING TO START TO DRIVE THE CAR, THE SCREEN IN FRONT OF STEERING WHEEL APPEARED TO BE TRYING TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE BLACK CENTER SCREEN. AFTER 5 MINUTES OF TRYING, THE SCREEN IN FRONT OF THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD ALLOW THE CAR TO BE DRIVEN. THE CAR WOULD BE DRIVABLE BUT WITHOUT TURN SIGNAL SOUNDS. CLIMATE CONTROL AND ANYTHING ELSE CONTROLLED BY THE CENTER SCREEN NOT ABLE TO BE ADJUSTED OR CHANGED AS CENTER SCREEN WAS COMPLETELY BLACK AND DEAD. CAR WOULD NOT ACCEPT A CHARGE OVERNIGHT FROM TESLA CHARGER INSTALLED IN MY HOUSE. CLIMATE CONTROL WAS ON CONTINUOUSLY OVERNIGHT, DEPLETING 10 MILES OFF THE BATTERY RANGE IN A SINGLE NIGHT (ABOUT 16 HOURS). THE NEXT DAY, AFTER AGAIN WAITING 5 MINUTES BETWEEN STARTING THE CAR AND BEING ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR, I WAS ABLE TO BRING THE CAR TO A TESLA SERVICE CENTER WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM OF THE MEDIA CONTROL UNIT (CENTER SCREEN) AS NOT RECOVERABLE AND REPLACED IT FOR $2500. WITHOUT THIS REPLACEMENT, THE CAR WAS NOT DRIVABLE FOR ALL PRACTICAL PURPOSES. ONCE REPAIRED, THE CAR WAS AGAIN DRIVABLE. LUCKILY THIS ISSUE OCCURRED AT HOME AND IN A SAFE SPOT. IF THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING, THE CAR COULD HAVE BEEN STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD.

CENTER SCREEN WENT DARK AND BACKUP CAMERA, ENVIRONMENT AND ACCELERATION/FEATURE CONTROLS WERE NO LONGER AVAILABLE. IT COST $2000 TO REPLACE THE MCU WITH A REMANUFACTURED MCU. MODEL S FLOOR MATS ARE SECURED VIA 4 VELCRO PADS, SCREWED INTO THE FLOOR ON ONE SIDE, "GLUED" ONTO THE MATS ON THE OTHER. AFTER 3.5 YEARS OF NORMAL USE, DRIVER'S SIDE FLOOR MAT CAME LOOSE WHILE DRIVING. PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT AND REMOVED MAT UNTIL I GOT HOME. FOUND TWO PADS COMPLETELY UNSTUCK FROM MAT, TWO OTHERS ROLLED INTO THEMSELVES AND PARTIALLY STICKING TO THE MAT. CAUSE APPEARS TO BE THE ADHESIVE GLUING THE VELCRO PADS TO THE MAT BREAKING DOWN/DEGRADING, RENDERING THE ADHESIVE INEFFECTIVE. THE CAR HAD ALMOST $40,000 IN DAMAGE AND THE DRIVER WAS INJURED. EXCESSIVE CORROSION ON STEERING U-JOINT CAUSING LOCKUP AND EXCESSIVE FORCE TO TURN WHEEL, REQUIRING REPAIR. EXCESSIVE CORROSION ON CONTROL SUSPENSION ARMS, REQUIRING REPAIR.
IN EARLY JULY 2019 I NOTICED THAT MY 2015 TESLA MODEL S 85D WAS NOT CHARGING AS IT SHOULD BE. MY 85 KILOWATT BATTERY WAS CHARGING AT A GREATLY DIMINISHED RATE. I TRIED CONTACTING TESLA FOR SERVICE BUT WAS UNABLE TO GET THROUGH TO THEM. IT TOOK OVER 3 VERY FRUSTRATING WEEKS FOR ME TO FINALLY GET THROUGH TO SCHEDULE A SERVICE APPOINTMENT. MY SERVICE TECHNICIAN REPLACED SOME PARTS THAT HE BELIEVED WOULD REMEDY THE PROBLEM HOWEVER WHEN HE TOOK THE CAR TO THE TESLA SUPERCHARGE STATION THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTED. HE REACHED OUT TO THE ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT AT TESLA AND WAS INFORMED THAT MY CARS CHARGING CAPACITY HAD BEEN LIMITED AND RESTRICTED BY TESLA. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH TESLA AND REQUESTED THAT MY BATTERY BE REPLACED UNDER THE FACTORY WARRANTY. IT TOOK 3 MORE WEEKS FOR ME TO GET A RESPONSE FROM TESLA WHICH RESULTED IN A DENIAL OF MY WARRANTY CLAIM. THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY BATTERY THAT WOULD WARRANT REPLACEMENT. I THEN INSISTED THAT IF THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY BATTERY THEN THEY SHOULD UN-RESTRICT MY ABILITY TO CHARGE AND RESTORE ME TO FULL CAPACITY. THEY SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT DO THAT AND IF I DID NOT LIKE THAT ANSWER THEN I COULD SUE THEM. I WAS ABSOLUTELY MORTIFIED. I HAVE SINCE LEARNED THAT TESLA HAS DISCOVERED THAT THERE IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT EXISTS IN THE 85 KILOWATT BATTERIES AS IS THE ONE IN MY VEHICLE. THERE HAVE BEEN REPORTS OF FIRES THAT HAVE ERUPTED ON SEVERAL OF THESE VEHICLES AS A RESULT OF ISSUES RELATED TO OUR 85 KILOWATT BATTERIES. I BELIEVE THAT TESLA IS PARTICIPATING IN A COVER UP TO AVOID DEALING WITH THIS ISSUE IN A RESPONSIBLE WAY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 TESLA MODEL S. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MCU (MEDIA CONTROL UNIT) FAILED TO FUNCTION AS DESIGNED OR DISPLAY AN IMAGE ONSCREEN. THE DRIVER WAS UNABLE TO USE THE BACK-UP CAMERA, THE SPEEDOMETER WAS NOT VIEWABLE AND OTHER FEATURES WERE NOT AVAILABLE DUE TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TESLA OF HIGHLAND PARK LOCATED AT 1200 OLD SKOKIE VALLEY RD, HIGHLAND PARK, IL 60035, WHO INDICATED THAT THE MCU NEEDED TO BE REPLACED HOWEVER, THE REPLACEMENT PART WAS NOT YET AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000. VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
A SOFTWARE UPDATE FROM THE MANUFACTURER HAS RESULTED IN A LOSS OF RANGE AND APPARENT RATE REDUCTION WHILE USING HIGH VOLTAGE CHARGING (I.E., "SUPERCHARGING"). THIS HAS RESULTED IN LONGER CHARGE TIMES AND RANGE LOSS. THE CHANGE OCCURRED WITHOUT NOTICE OR EXPLANATION OF NEED, AND HAS RESULTED IN SIGNIFICANT LOSS OF USE OF AN IMPORTANT FUNCTION IN LONG DISTANCE TRAVEL. *TR
