Phantom breaking happened 5 times interstate 8 Car slowed braked from 84mi to 55 mi no worning. Nothing on road close to car. Clear highway.
On a 350 mile trip between Boise, ID and Salt Lake City, UT, we experiences four incidents of braking for no reason while using the adaptive cruise. No autopilot or full self driving functionality was engaged. The vehicle applied the brakes while at speeds of 80mph+ and it causes a violet slow down sometimes dropping 20mph very quickly requiring the driver to apply the gas to increase speed to meet the speed or traffic. This is a safety concern due to potential for being rear-ended, the violent nature could cause the driver to lose control, or cars following behind may think we are trying to 'brake-check' them in an aggressive manner. The problem has been reported previously, our vehicle has not been inspected. No warnings appeared.
The turn signals do not work correctly with Teslas. You have to hit the switch multiple times in order to register your intent. For example, when I plan to turn left, I hit the turn signal switch, nothing happens. Then I try it again and it works. There are times it takes three switches in order to get the signal to register correctly. This is a known issue and complaints in forums that Tesla turn signal don’t register the first time. This is dangerous if I have to quickly switch lanes or exit and having to hit the turn signal switch multiple times in order for it to work. Very dangerous. This should work every single time, the first time.
The contact owns a 2022 Tesla Model Y. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 MPH with the Adaptive Cruise Control activated, the vehicle suddenly and without warning decelerated to approximately 50 MPH. The contact indicated that no other vehicles or objects were nearby during the failure. The failure had occurred on three separate occasions during the trip. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 5,000.
When using the cruise control feature on my Tesla model Y Long Range, I experience what is known as phantom breaking. The vehicles brake are applied hard after the camera sees what it incorrectly perceives to be a vehicle in front of it. This can manifest itself by a vehicle turning across it’s path in the distance or a large vehicle such as a truck coming toward us on a two lane road. This is a very unsafe condition because of the potential of being hit in the rear by vehicles behind us as our breaking maneuver can be excessive and unneeded.
The contact owns a 2022 Tesla Model Y. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds with the Forward Collision Avoidance: Adaptive Cruise Control activated, the vehicle experienced phantom braking. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,500.
I have a brand-new Tesla Model Y which was delivered to me on 8/29/2022. On 9/20/2022, between 08:20 and 09:20 AM PDT, I encountered at least 5 "unexpected slowdown" (or "phantom braking") events. It was on a section of I-15 between Las Vegas and Los Angeles. The weather condition was warm, clear, and sunny, and the freeway had almost no traffic around me. I had the "traffic-aware cruise control" enabled, and suddenly and without any warning, the car braked violently. If there were other cars around me, I was certain that rear-end accidents would have happened. Each time this happened, there was NO warning of any kind whatsoever. With each occurrence, I used the Tesla "Report" voice command to document such an event. According to Tesla, the event data were available to diagnostic team for analysis.
Last evening , when doing a lane change on Highway 680 , I lost control of the car and the car began to swerve pretty badly. Thankfully I hit the brakes on time and everything was fine again. A blue car was trying to get in my lane and I quickly changed lanes to be safe and the severe swerving began. It was like I was in a roller coaster. Thankfully it was a 4-5 lane freeway and there were no cars around me. It felt like the autopilot tool control and the swerving began. How do I lodge a complaint so that Tesla can fix it? Can I turn something off to avoid this in future because I am scared to drive the car again? I have a 2022 Tesla Model Y. Also is it possible to see some sort of video from 680 between 4-5 pm on Tuesday Sept 20, 2022? I was returning to San Jose from Fremont, CA. Thank you, Jyoti
The contact owns a 2022 Tesla Model Y. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V702000 (Visibility) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
While driving on 1- 10 in Tucson headed East, at 6:15am, with no traffic visible coming or going and traveling at 75mph with cruise control engaged, the car slammed on the brakes without warning bringing the speed down to 30 mph. This also happened 3 to 4 times on 2 lane roads with no cars visible from horizon to horizon, vehicle speed was 65 mph, car for no reason initiated emergency braking down to 20mph. Obviously this is a severe hazard and potentially life threatening had there been vehicles or large trucks directly behind us. After these incidents my wife would not let me engage the cruise control and is thinking of selling the car.
While driving west on I70 today phantom braking has occurred at least 5 times. This has happened when using adaptive cruise control and autopilot. NOT SAFE!!
Traveling on a three lane highway at normal traffic speeds, at night with little to no traffic, the Traffic Aware Cruise Control (TACC) would activate braking with no identifiable reason. The braking is significant and would pose a danger to those vehicles that may be directly behind. For me this occurs mostly during night time driving because I tend to use the TACC when there is little traffic on the highway. I fear using the TACC during daytime due to the amount of traffic on New Jersey highways. The car is 100% drivable when TACC is not engaged.
Model Y slamming on break for no particular reason when hazardous lights are on. Luckily no car was behind me
Our Tesla was phantom braking on the highway on a recent trip to a neighboring state. The braking was unpredictable, sudden and aggressive. This happened when we used cruise control. Each time it happened, I was in the passenger seat and thrown forward. We quickly realized this could cause a fatal collision. We began limiting the use of cruise control to long stretches of highway when no other vehicles were behind us. This happened both on the way to our destination and on the way back home.
Had car less than 48 hours and charged for first time overnight and the charging stopped 1 hour into the session. In the am there was no power to car and had to call roadside that was able to jump and get power to remove charge and get on tow truck Tesla reports a PCS unit and Voltage unit failed and need replacement This car is less than 38 hours old with 103 miles.
Car did not stop after I parked and continued to go forward and hit another parked a car Even with my foot on the break. No warning light of any sor. This incident happened at 5:35 PM Pacific time on Monday, September 12. I made an appointment with the service department and it took the car there on September 23, 2022, . They only asked me about the time this happened and they said you’re going to send it to engineers and will get back to you. They did even Care to look at the car or inspect it. Since then, no one ever contacted me. I was lucky that this truck was in front of my car otherwise if there was anyone walking they would have been killed.
I was driving on a stretch of I-15 in Utah using the traffic aware cruise control when the car suddenly applied the brakes by itself. I was traveling at approximately 80mph when this happened. Scared me half to death. I wasn't sure what happened and thought it was just an anomaly. Later I was using the auto pilot traffic aware cruise control feature and the same thing happened. That's when I figured out it was an issue with the cruise control/auto pilot. When I was stopped, I looked up that this is a frequent issue with the Tesla Model Y, known as phantom braking. No one at Tesla mentioned this issue as I went through the purchase process, or when I picked up the car in Dec. 2021. I wasn't aware of that before and feel like I could have been in a serious accident. I felt lucky that I wasn't.
Tesla does not provide power to the Aux pin on the standard 7 pin connector for towing. This means that the vehicle will not keep a 12V battery on a trailer charged up at all times. In case of a breakaway situation, there will be no power to the brakes and thus the trailer will not stop safely. Tesla changed to a 16V battery and has refused to step down the voltage for towing purposes. This is extremely dangerous when they advertise the Model Y and X as towing up to 3500 and 5000 lbs respectively and do not advertise the fact (outside the manual, where it must be inferred) that there is no power on the Aux pin. The 7 pin connector is a standard and Tesla is not adhering to it.
The contact owns a 2022 Tesla Model Y. The contact stated that after he made a right turn, another vehicle crashed into the front passenger side door to the rear passenger side door. The air bags failed to deploy. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact sustained soreness to the shoulder, neck, and back. No medical attention was required. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot. The dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 8,607.
I have experienced "phantom braking" with this vehicle from the time I received it in Feb '22. There have been over 20 incidents. I do not feel safe using the cruise control in traffic or when any car is following me. It could very easily cause an accident. When cruise control is on, it will randomly apply emergency braking. Yes the vehicle is available for inspection upon request. My safety and the safety of vehicle following me is at risk because the vehicle suddenly and unexpectedly applies emergency braking. I have not tried to address the issue with Tesla. There are never any warnings that this may happen. This is very unsafe and with the number of vehicles with this known issue, I hope the NHTSA applies pressure to Tesla to fix the problem asap. I do not feel safe using the cruise control and likewise it is not a safe situation for others on the road to have these vehicles driving with this issue.
Phantom braking while using either cruise control or the autopilot feature in my brand new Tesla Y performance. Over a several hour drive from Utah to Wyoming and back , on two lane highway going one direction and two lanes the other direction. Speeds around 65-85 mph. Sudden scary braking that I had to override with gas pedal. Occurred about 6-10 times. About 3-5 times during 8 hour ride from UT to WY and 3-5 times from WY to UT. I would quit using cruise or autopilot for awhile as it was very disconcerting. One time I felt dizzy because of sudden deceleration.
The contact owns a Tesla 2022 Tesla Model Y. The contact stated while driving at 65 MPH in the rain, the vehicle experienced phantom braking and stopped suddenly. The vehicle then veered to the right independently. The brake pedal was depressed but failed to respond. The contact lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle spun out and crashed into a wall on the side of the road. The air bags deployed. The contact sustained bruises and significant pain to the left leg. The contact also sustained soreness of her fingers, arms and shoulders. The contact did not seek medical assistance. The contact’s sister transported her to her residence. The contact was unsure whether a police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot. The vehicle was then towed to a collision center. The contact was not using autopilot mode at the time the failure occurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that she would need to repair the vehicle at her own expense. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000.
The contact owns a 2022 Tesla Model Y. The contact stated while driving approximately 70-80 MPH with Adaptive Cruise Control activated, the vehicle experienced phantom braking while there were no vehicles or objects nearby. The contact stated that he depressed the accelerator pedal and was able to continue driving; however, the failure had been reoccurring more frequently. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 400.
Was stopped at a light and the car rapidly accelerate on its own hitting the car in front of me. The air bags didn't deploy. I stepped on the break pedal but the car continued to accelerate, I have informed Tesla and opened a service ticket. A police report was filed for the resulting accident involving 2 other cars. I have also had instances in the recent past where while driving on the highway the car has rapidly slowed down / applied the breaks for now obvious reason. The phantom breaking issue reported by many.
The contact owns a 2022 Tesla Model Y. The contact purchased aftermarket rubber floor mats, and the floor mat on the driver’s side was warped and had started to block the contact from depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact stated that after removing the foot from the accelerator pedal to depress the brake pedal, and then switching back to depress the accelerator pedal, it was more difficult than normal due to the warped floor mat blocking the accelerator pedal. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and replaced the floor mats twice; however, the second set of floor mats was also warped. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.
Alert was coming randomly while driving the car about several safety systems being disabled automatically without any audible notifications. Alert clears up after the car is locked for several minutes. Below is the alert message.. Automatic emergency braking disabled Automatic Vehicle Hold disabled Traction control disabled Stability control disabled Cruise control disabled This makes the car suddenly unsafe to drive if you are not paying attention to the screen. I have been on the road driving car at 60-70MPH several times when this happened. This can turn in to an accident. I provided the information and created a service appointment at Tesla which took a month before they can get me a scheduled appointment. Tesla fixed the issue with below note after further review. "A loose connection in the area of the steering gear was causing severe communication problems between the stability controller and the autopilot computer." Resolution Date: 11/18/2022 Report Date: 9/5/2022
The contact owns a 2022 Tesla Model Y. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 - 80 MPH with the Adaptive Cruise Control engaged, the Forward Collision Avoidance; Automatic Emergency Braking was activated with no traffic within a ¼ mile. There was no warning light illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted or notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 3,500.
On multiple occastions my car has suddenly applied the brakes when using cruise control. The braking ranges from mild to severe. This hasn't resulted in an accident but there has been a close call when a car was following closely. I have brought this to Tesla's attention and there response was along the lines of there is nothing that can be done to fix it and it should get better over time. It has not got better.
While on a cross country road trip, our 2022 Tesla Model Y has repeatedly slammed on the brakes at highway speeds with nothing in front of us. Most times have been cresting hills, but one time it was on straight road with, fortunately, no other cars near us.
Taillights habitually fog up (in moderate Southern California weather) and block the visual braking visibility. Tesla says having lights you can’t see when braking is normal
Travelling on open highway (no other cars around) - attempted to use our AutoPilot/Cruise Control on the new Tesla for the first time. We engaged the system and it maintained the speed limit for a minute or two and then for no reason applied the brakes rapidly reducing speed. Thankfully no cars were behind us - but the force was so strong it did cause back/neck strain. We thought maybe we had done something wrong - tried again two more times - always on open road - no other cars around - and always the same action. We have concluded we cannot use this feature at all - it does not feel ready or safe.
The contact owns a 2022 Tesla Model Y. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V702000 (Visibility) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that after he exited the vehicle, the passenger’s side rear window inadvertently rolled up quickly, and the window failed to detect his son's hand on the window. No injuries were sustained. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 7,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
When in cruise control, at random times, the car will break violently and without warning. We have experienced this multiple times, as my husband drives the vehicle hundreds of miles between our homes in Portland Oregon and Santa Fe New Mexico, and has done so round trip, twice. The "phantom" breaking happens sometimes multiple times in a few mile stretch, and other times it doesn't happen at all for a hundred or so miles. It is shocking and dangerous when it happens. Although we are only able to log one time/occurrence in the form below, it has happened MULTIPLE times. More than 15. It only happens when the car is in autopilot/adaptive cruise control, and when the breaking occurs, it can be as much as 10 or more miles per hour that it instantly (and without warning) slows. This causes the driver to jolt forward like whiplash which creates an overreaction or over-correction, and is a very dangerous, increasing the likelihood of a collision from behind, and from the jarring and overcorrections on the wheel when taken by surprise. We love this car, but the issues we have had with phantom breaking are jarring, scary, unpredictable, and dangerous which make us regret the feature (and sometimes the car, given the cost of the vehicle). We have not had this inspected by the manufacturer or anyone else. No warning lights or indications are experienced prior to the sudden breaking, and both my husband and I have experienced it separately, and together in the vehicle, but it has not been replicated by a 3rd party.
The contact owned a 2022 Tesla Model Y. The contact stated while the vehicle was stationed at a traffic light and waiting to make a left turn, the vehicle accelerated independently and T-boned another vehicle. The contact stated the air bags did not deployed. The contact stated she was dizzy/a headache and had lesions on her upper left leg. The contact stated she did not seek medical. The contact stated she was made aware by her insurance company, the driver from the other vehicle, had sustained unknown injuries and did seek medication attention. The vehicle was not drivable. The insurance company deemed the vehicle totaled. A police report was filed. The police department towed the vehicle to a towing lot. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 35,083.
The contact owns a 2022 Tesla Model Y. The contact stated that while driving approximately 5 MPH and making a right turn onto the driveway of the home, the vehicle suddenly experienced unintended acceleration and drove forward into the garage door. The contact indicated that during the incident the accelerator pedal was not being pressed. No injuries were reported. The garage door and home were damaged. A police report was taken at the scene and the vehicle was towed away. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The local dealer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 160. The contact stated that the vehicle was a total loss and not repairable.
In addition to the car only achieving 65% of its actual miles range claimed the cars operating system will freeze while driving (once every 3 days on average), forcing the driver to reboot the car while driving (hold both scroll wheel buttons on steering wheel). This takes away the ability to read the speedometer, to use indicators and basically ALL of the functions of the car. The rear view camera display also fails about 10% of the time which I have recorded. The car will also SLAM on the brakes while on the highway, driving in the rain on autopilot to allow a merging DHL van into my lane instead of switching to the left lane as advised by DOT/DMV and I recorded this on dashcam yesterday coming back from NASA. It is a daily issue that passengers in my Uber cannot buckle their seatbelts because the buckle is too low into the seat for them to easily find, in some cases passengers get disgruntled and I am forced to park and wait until they can buckle themselves sometimes taking over 5 minutes. The driver assistance features do not always work and also alert me and my passengers when it is unnecessary making it seem more like a gamble than a safety feature; sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes when it shouldn't. The false claims and inconsistencies are unlike any other vehicle I've ever driven. Tesla is a CRIMINAL enterprise acting purely in self interest and preservation to maximize profits and MUST be held accountable and to the standards of all other vehicles in the USA driving on our roads. I am APPAULED at the way Tesla has silenced me (blocked emails and blocked my ability to schedule service) and accused me of trying to cheat on my wife with the non-existent female Tesla employees on my BBB complaint which the BBB closed out claiming they solved it when Tesla didn't address a single complaint, just attacked my character publicly also known as slander. Also 250kw superchargers only charge at 50kw after preconditioning without other cars chargingFU
08/27/22 3:37 pm While driving on I25 north to Wheatland WY at 80 mph the adaptive cruise control slammed on the brakes. The weather was sunny, there were no other cars within sight in front of the Tesla or to the rear and the pavement was dry. Thinking there must be something that hit a sensor I resumed the journey. The same braking malfunction occurred two more times so I pulled into a rest area and searched to find automatic emergency braking and turned off that feature. Once more I drove with the adaptive cruise control. It did it again. Had there been a semi or other heavy vehicle behind me there would have been a likely fatal crash. The Telsa braked so hard I thought the airbags would deploy. This is a very serious safety issue that must be immediately addressed. I returned home and within the week sold the Model Y.
Multiple episodes of phantom braking when the car is in cruise control and autopilot. There can be a completely open road and it happens. Doesn’t seem to be any reason. We’ve been trying to pay attention if there are shadows, construction barrels, bridges, etc that it could be detecting, but it’s never the same. It is VERY dangerous and needs to be fixed
My car came with a factory hitch adapter. I was hauling a flat bed trailer with a load of about 10 20' 2x4s on it home for my foundation. At approximately 65 miles per hour, out of no where, with no other cars around, on a sunny day, and on a straight section of 2 lane road, the car suddenly applied the brakes hard, to the point that I was afraid of the load on the trailer shifting and hitting the car even though it was tied on well. This is just the worst example of this annoying behavior that I can't seem to disable on my new Model Y. It sort of like riding a horse with a mind of it's own, and so you're never sure when this mare will spook and come to a stop and throw you off. You might say that there was no damage done, but that's like saying that if someone tried to break in your front door and failed, then you're ok. Of course you're not because it leaves emotional damage when this occurs. I'm scared to drive the car because of it.
Car performed sudden and pronounced deceleration while ACC was engaged, for no apparent reason. This occurred intermittently, perhaps a dozen times, over an 800 mile round trip.
The contact owns a 2022 Tesla Model Y. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle at 5 MPH, the central display became inoperable and turned black. The contact stated that the vehicle was locked and she was unable to exit the vehicle. The contact received assistance from a bystander who opened the door from the outside. After that, the contact stated she was able to drive to her destination. The contact stated she contacted the dealer and they advised her to take the vehicle for diagnosis. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that she experienced another incident with the vehicle. The vehicle was parked in front of a veterinary clinic when suddenly the vehicle accelerated on its own and she was unable to stop it which led her to crash into the veterinary clinic building. The contact didn't experience any injuries. No police report failed. The vehicle was not repaired they related the incident with an operator error malfunction. The failure mileage was approximately 10,000.
The autopilot and automatic emergency braking systems implemented in 2021 and 2022 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles are defective in that they can engage randomly when no safety hazard is present. This issue has been dubbed “phantom braking”.
Driving on a highway, after passing a semi I changed to the right lane. I had traffic aware cruise control on. With no one in front of me, the car suddenly braked. I had to step on the accelerator to avoid being rear-ended by the semi. This is 3rd "phantom braking" event in past 2 weeks.
The Tesla model 3/Y have two horn buttons on either side of the airbag. I noticed that my left side has never functioned well, so I started searching online. https://www.reddit.com/r/TeslaLounge/comments/wr4tq0/comment/ikwiy3i/?context=3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvLCRr7-rrg https://www.reddit.com/r/ModelY/comments/m8vq4l/left_horn_button_not_working_service_refused_to/ https://www.reddit.com/r/ModelY/comments/u87aw9/my_horn_doesnt_work_and_tesla_refuses_to_replace/ Each post represents one complaint with dozens of others also chiming in w/ the same issue. Tesla has an inconsistent and reactive repair policy for something that is clearly widespread. I only found out my horn was broken when someone almost merged into me and I was unable to honk. There needs to be some type of proactive repair/advisory on this issue so owners can see if they have a problem and get it fixed before there are more accidents.
On August 21, 2022, the front hood ("frunk'") of this car inexplicably flew open, swinging around and severely damaging the windshield (and the hood, naturally). The car was not being driven, it was being transported from California to Florida atop a large vehicle transportation truck. On the third day of driving, after nearly 2000 miles of the trip on a highway in Louisiana, the hood inexplicably popped open while the car was riding on the top of the transport vehicle. The truck driver was made aware of the issue by a passing motorist, pulled over, and was able to pull the hood down and latch it. Tesla customer support has told me via a chat app that their systems indicate that the hood remained latched during the entire journey, and at no point was unlatched during the transportation period. Tesla also cancelled a scheduled inspection at its own service center, indicating the company has no interest in understanding why a presumably latched hood would suddenly fly open. I have had the vehicle evaluated by two repair shops, and the windshield damage is very obviously and perfectly consistent with a hood swinging around on its hinges and smashing the windshield. The hood, at the near corners which smashed into the windshield, also show scratches and damage/bent metal. I feel very fortunate to not have been driving this vehicle at the time it happened, as I would have completely lost visibility with the hood raised. The transport driver was in possession of a fob, which when pushed very deliberately in a specific manner, could unlatch the front hood. However, the driver did not do so. I believe the safety of Tesla's Model Y hood latch should be investigated, from a mechanical and software/electronic/radio systems activation perspective.
Autopilot's adaptive cruise control has caused numerous sudden slowdowns without any traffic in front. Fortunately there wasn't a vehicle close behind me but had there been it could have caused a collision. I took a 3100 mile road trip and it probably happened between 20 and 40 times. Sometimes it would only slow from 70 to 60, but on a few occasions it was as if the brakes had been applied hard and went from 70 to 40 in just a few seconds.
When using the autopilot adapative cruise control feature, the car will regularly think there is a reason to slow down suddenly (the "phantom braking" common complaint). I only use the car on trips, and this happens frequently. While on Route 152, this happened multiple times on a stretch of road that is long and flat. There were no other cars around (and fortunately, none behind me). This probably happened 5-6 times during a 50 mile drive. More recently, it happened on Hwy 99 at least twice in about 30 miles of driving. There were more cars behind me so it felt very unsafe. There was no reason to brake however. It has almost gotten to the point where I do not feel comfortable using cruise control because it will suddenly start braking for no reason. I almost have to have more vigilance when cruise control (autopilot) is on than when it is off because the car might unexpectedly start braking. If Tesla cannot get this fixed, then they should probably stop offering this is as a feature in their cars.
RE: Problems with cruise control and random braking I purchased the above model Y performance in June 2022 and we just took our first road trip the last two weeks of August 2022. We started in Sacrament, California and drove to Twin Falls, Idaho, Salt Lake City and return to Sacramento, CA. I started using the auto pilot steering and cruise control on the freeway (HWY 80 eastbound). At freeway speeds the car would suddenly and randomly apply the brakes, sometimes a very hard brake, which was scary and unsafe. I expected this normal feature to work properly on this road trip. As I traveled from Reno, Nevada to Twin Falls, Idaho, this random braking happened over 50 times. I tried several work arounds by disabling the auto steer, the emergency braking and all the automatic options, however, this random braking issue continued. There was no pattern and often it would occur with no other traffic on the road and perfectly clear road conditions. These so called safety features became a safety hazzard. I turned off the cruise control for long stretches because the random braking caused driver stress and fatigue. When I got tired of pressing the accelerator pedal, I would engage the cruise control and my manual work around was to have my foot hover over the accelerator pedal to override the braking manually. This was stressful since I never know when the hard braking would occur. This problem makes the car unsafe and very difficult to drive on a road trip over freeways. It also significantly impairs the value of this very expensive car since a standard feature (cruise control) does not function properly. It is scary to drive with random sudden hard braking. I bought this car for my wife and now she won’t drive it on a freeway due to this serious malfunction. I would like a response as to how you will remedy this problem
Driving 70 MPH on highway with adaptive cruise on. Light traffic, no vehicles on left side. I just passed a semi truck on right side and my car had a phantom braking incident. Slowed from 70 mph to 40 mph in a second or two. No vehicles directly behind me at the time. I pressed on gas pedal and speed resumed to 70. This has happened a couple of other times on a different highway.
While driving from Austin Texas to San Deigo Cal. Had on at least a dozen occasions sharp braking while vehicle was in cruise control. Most of these sharp braking incidents occurred in very light traffic, sometimes no traffic on the interstate hwy. our speed would drop as much as 20 mph in an instant.
