CONSUMER STATED THAT IT WILL BE HARD TO OPEN THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK
OIL SLUDGE PROBLEM. ENGINE MAKES NOISE
BLUE EXHAUST SMOKE AND ODD ENGINE NOICE DURING IGNITION. I TOOK THE CAR IN TO COBB COUNTY TOYOTA IN KENNESAW, GA. I TOOK ALL OF MY MAINTENANCE RECORDS AND SOME ARTICLES I'D PRINTED OUT REGARDING OIL GELLING, IN CASE THEY GAVE ME ANY HASSLE. I TOLD THEM I DIDN'T WANT THEM TO DO A FLUSH - HE SAID THAT TOYOTA WOULDN'T ALLOW THEM TO DO THAT ANYHOW, AND THAT THEY WOULD BE TAKING IT APART. HE WOULDN'T EVEN SPECULATE WHETHER OR NOT IT WAS GELLING UNTIL THEY TOOK IT APART. AS SUCH, THEY WOULDN'T AGREE TO PAY FOR A RENTAL CAR UNTIL THEY THEY CONFIRMED IT WAS GELLING. THEY DID TAKE IT APART AND FOUND THAT THE GELLING WAS LIMITED TO THE HEAD. WITHOUT ASKING FOR MAINTENANCE RECORDS (EVEN THOUGH I'D HAD MOST OF MY OIL CHANGES DONE BY 3RD PARTIES), AND COMPLETELY FREE OF COST TO ME, THEY CLEANED THE HEAD, AND REPLACED THE VALVE STEM SEALS, OIL PUMP, PICK-UP SCREEN, PVC VALVE, AND VALVE COVER. RUNS SMOOTH AS THE DAY I BOUGHT IT NOW (THOUGH I DID REPLACE THE TIMING BELT AS WELL, WHICH I'M SURE CONTRIBUTED SLIGHTLY TO THE IMPROVEMENT). NO RENTAL CAR WAS NECESSARY AS THEY HAD IT BACK TO ME BY THE END OF THE DAY (I'D TAKEN IT IN THE PREVIOUS EVENING). INCIDENTALLY, I TOOK IT IN 4 YEARS TO THE DAY SINCE I TOOK DELIVERY OF IT.
WHEN HIT AT 15MPH IN THE FRONT CENTER OF THE VEHICLE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK
THE SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTIONED. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS ON 6/5/2003. THE DIRECT CLUTCH SPEED SENSOR HAS TO BE REPLACED. *AK
I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF A 1999 TOYOTA SOLARA (PURCHASED MARCH 1999).LAST MONTH WITH 34,825 MILES ON IT, I HAD TO HAVE THE FRONT ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS REPLACED FOR THE SECOND TIME. THE FIRST TIME WAS IN JUNE 2001 WITH 22,125 MILES ON THE VEHICLE.*AK BOTH TIMES, THE DEALER BLAMES EXCESSIVE RUST AND RUNOUT ON THE ROTORS AS THE CAUSE OF SERIOUS STEERING WHEEL VIBRATION WHEN BRAKING. THEY CLAIM I DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR AND USE THE BRAKES ENOUGH. THE SOLARA IS GARAGE KEPT AND GETS AT LEAST AS MUCH USE AS ANY OTHER CAR I HAVE OWNED AND I HAVE NEVER HAD TO HAVE ANY BRAKES AND ROTORS REPLACED FOR THIS REASON AND FOUR OF THE CARS I OWNED FOR A PERIOD OF NINE YEARS EACH. TWO OF THOSE SAT OUTSIDE THEIR ENTIRE EXISTENCE AND AVERAGED A GRAND TOTAL OF THREE TO FOUR THOUSAND MILES/YEAR. I HAVE TRIED DEALING WITH THE DEALER REP AND HE AND THE REGIONAL SERVICE MANAGER TELL ME THERE IS NOTHING THEY SHOULD DO ABOUT IT AND I SHOULD EXPECT TO BE DOING THIS AGAIN EVERY TWO YEARS. THIS DOES NOT SEEM RIGHT TO ME AND SO FAR I HAVE GOTTEN THE RESPONSE FROM CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT THEY STAND BEHIND THE OPINIONS OF THEIR DEALER SERVICE TECHS. EVEN AFTER REPAIR, I GET SOME VIBRATION IN PEDAL AND STEERING WHEEL AT TIMES. HAVE ALSO HAD PROBLEMS WITH ANTILOCK BRAKES. JUST TODAY I HAD TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT AS A CAR PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF ME AND ANTILOCK RELEASED BRAKING CAUSING A LONGER BRAKING DISTANCE THAN NECESSARY. ONE DAY WHEN STOPPING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT IN GOOD WEATHER CONDITIONS ON A SMOOTH SURFACE, ANTI-LOCK KICKED IN AND RELEASED BRAKING POWER. I WOUND UP WITH THE WHOLE FRONT END OF THE CAR IN THE INTERSECTION. I WAS ONLY GOING ABOUT 30-35 MPH AS I WAS IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA. I WAS LUCKY NO ONE WAS COMING. ANY TIME YOU TRY TO STOP ON A ROUGH SURFACE, IT CAN BE AN ADVENTURE. YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO REMEMBER TO KEEP EXTRA DISTANCE WITH THIS CAR. ANYTIME BROUGHT UP TO DEALER, THEY SAID COULD NOT DUPLICATE AND THIS IS THE WAY ANTILOCK BRAKES ARE SUPPOSED TO WORK.
I PURCHASED A 1999 TOYOTA CAMRY IN JANUARY 01. APPROXIMATELY, 18 MONTHS LATER, MY VEHICLE SUFFERED ENGINE FAILURE. I WAS ADVISED BY THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP THAT THE DAMAGE WAS DUE TO EXCESSIVE SLUDGE IN THE ENGINE. I COMPLETED REGULAR OIL CHANGES AND MAINTENANCE ON THIS VEHICLE. ADDITIONALLY, THE WARRANTY ONLY PARTIALLY PAID FOR THE DAMAGE. I WAS FORCED TO PAY ABOUT $2400. EVEN THOUGH MY WARRANTY SHOULD HAVE COVERED EVERYTHING LESS THE $500 DEDUCTIBLE. I HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT TOYOTA RECOGNIZED THIS PROBLEM AND SAID THAT IT WOULD PAY FOR THESE DAMAGES. I AM INTERESTED IN INVESTIGATING IF I CAN HAVE THE FUNDS I PAID REFUNDED TO ME.*AK
DRIVER POWER WINDOW CAME OFF TRACK AND WAS FIXED UNDER WARRANTY. PASSENGER POWER WINDOW CAME OFF TRACK DEALER FIXED AFTER WARRANTY FOR COST OF $80. PASSENGER WINDOW CAME OFF TRACK AGAIN FIXED BY MECHANIC 1/2 DEALER PRICE. BOTH REAR WINDOW MOTORS FAILED AND REPLACED AT COST OF OVER $400. EACH. TOYOTA SUPERCEDED THE ORIGINAL PART WITH A NEW ONE. APPARENTLY A KNOWN DEFECT WITH NO RECALL. PASSENGER WINDOW CAME OFF TRACK ONCE AGAIN. NEXT CAR MAY NOT BE TOYOTA. *NLM
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WIRING MALFUNCTIONED. THIS RESULTED IN ALL ELECTRICAL OPERATED COMPONENTS FAILING AND BEING INOPERATIVE, WHILE DRIVING. *AK THERE WAS BREAKAGE OF THE WIRES THAT OCCURRED IN THE WIRE PACK WHICH CROSSED BETWEEN THE SIDE OF THE TRUNK AND THE HINGE OF THE TRUNK COVER AT THE POINT WHERE THE WIRES WERE FLEXED DUE TO THE OPENING/CLOSING OF THE TRUNK COVER. THE PROBLEM WAS NOT IMMEDIATELY FOUND DUE TO NO VISIBLE DETERIORATION OR DAMAGE TO THE WIRE PACK COVERING AT OR NEAR THE POINT OF BREAKAGE. THE BROKEN WIRES WERE ULTIMATELY FOUND BY USING A FAULTY LOCATOR DEVICE. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AFTER THE ITEMS WERE PLACED IN THE TRUNK, THE COVER CLOSED AND THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. BOTH THE FRONT AND REAR SIDE WINDOWS(WHICH WERE CLOSED AT THE TIME)COULD NOT BE LOWERED, THE SUNROOF (OPENED AT THE TIME)COULD NOT BE CLOSED, THE SPEEDOMETER, TACHOMETER, AND ENGINE TEMPERATURE INDICATORS WERE ALL INOPERATIVE. *SCC *JB
MY CAMRY HAS 30,000 MILES ON IT AND IT IS FALLING APART! THE SCREWS HAVE FALLEN OUT OF THE DOORS THREE TIME AND THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS ONLY SOLUTION IS TO PUT SILICONE IN THE SCREW HOLES WHICH NOW CAUSES THE THE DOORS TO SQUEAK. THE CAR IS DRAGGING THE GROUND AS A RESULT OF POOR STRUTS. I CONTINUE TO GET THE RUN AROUND WITH THE MANUFACTURE. *NLM
THREE OF FOUR MICHELIN TIRES EXPERIENCED TREAD SEPARATION, RESULTING IN ERRATIC AND DANGEROUS BEHAVIOUR OF THE VEHICLE, A 1999 TOYOTA CAMRY. TIRES WERE PURCHASED IN DECEMBER 2001 FROM SEARS, WHO ONLY WOULD PRO-RATE THE TIRES. THE DOT #S FOR TWO OF THE TIRES ARE 2XJ9 DMX 2001 AND 2XJ9 DMX 1901. I DID NOT RETAIN THE DOT NUMBER FROM THE FIRST TIRE THAT FAILED, AS I THOUGHT THAT IT WAS AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. HOWEVER, THREE OF FOUR TIRES FAILED, INDICATING THAT THERE IS A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM/DEFECT. LUCKILY, THE SEPARATIONS WERE DETECTED BEFORE ANY OBVIOUS DAMAGE WAS CAUSED AND BEFORE ANY BLOWOUTS OCCURRED. THEY DID, HOWEVER, RESULT IN DANGEROUS BEHAVIOR OF THE CAR, ESPECIALLY ON WET OR SNOWY ROADS.THE CAMRY WAS USED AS A FAMILY VEHICLE AND DID NOT EXPERIENCE ANY UNUSUAL USE. TIRES WERE INFLATED PROPERLY AND CHECKED PERIODICALLY. THE FIRST TIRE FAILED IN APPROXIMATELY APRIL 2003, THE SECOND IN MAY 2003, AND THE THIRD IN JULY 2003. FOURTH TIRE SHOWED NO OBVIOUS SIGNS OF FAILURE, BUT WAS REPLACED ANYWAY.*AK
INITIAL SYMTOMS: ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON; CAR RAN VERY ROUGH, AS IF MISFIRING; WHITE SMOKE BILLOWED; ENGINE WAS COMPLETELY VOID OF OIL; RESPONSE: MECHANIC FLUSHED OIL THROUGH ENGINE; REFILLED ENGINE WITH 4 QUARTS OIL; CHANGED FRONT 3 SPARKPLUGS; 1 WEEK LATER SAME SYMTOMS ABOVE RETURNED; ENGINE WAS COMPLETELY VOID OF OIL AGAIN;
APRIL 30, 2003 ON SUNDAY, APRIL 27, 2003 - MY 1999 TOYOTA 2.2L 4CYL CAMRY LE VIN NUMBER [XXX] CEASED TO OPERATE AT JFK INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. THE ENGINE WITH A VERY LOUD NOISE (SUCH HAS GEARS UNDER PRESSURE THAT JUST GAVE WAY) STOPPED ABRUPTLY WHILE SMOKE CAME OUT AND THE OIL SPILLED ALL OVER THE PLACE. AFTER HAVING THE CAR TOWED BACK TO ROCKLAND TOYOTA THE NEXT DAY I LATER WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A SIGNIFICANT SIZED HOLE ON THE ENGINE AND WAS SHOWN BROKEN THE PIECES. THE CAR WAS ALWAYS SERVICED AT ROCKLAND TOYOTA SINCE ITS PURCHASE FROM TOYOTA NORTH (ALL BASED IN NEW YORK). MY CAMRY HAS HAD SYMPTOMS RELATING TO OIL SLUDGE IN THE ENGINE. PERSISTENT DRIFTING/PULLING TO THE LEFT OR THE RIGHT, UNEVEN WEAR OF TIRES WITH NEED FOR EARLY REPLACEMENT, PREMATURE BRAKE COMPONENT WEAR, INCLUDING REAR BRAKE DRUMS, AND VIBRATIONS, ESP. WHILE DRIVING AT 75 MPH THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE BLEW UP AND CAUSED A VEHICLE FIRE. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. *NLM

MY WIFE WAS DRIVING DOWN A BUSY FOUR LANE HIGHWAY AT 45 MPH WHEN THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED FOR NO REASON. SHE RECEIVED FIRST AND SECOND DEGREE BURNS TO HER RIGHT HAND FROM THE CHEMICALS IN THE AIRBAG. SHE WAS ABLE TO KEEP CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. TOYOTA HAS BEEN NOTIFIED VIA E-MAIL, NO RESPONSE. *NLM
WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO EXPERIENCE EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. *NLM
MY ENGINE SEIZED. I'VE RECEIVED 2 LETTERS FROM TOYOTA DATED 2/2002 AND 6/2002 REGARDING OIL GEL. CAR WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP- DEALERSHIP HAD CAR "INSPECTED BY A NO NAME TOYOTA DISTRICT REP" DEALERSHIP SAID NOT OIL GEL REP AGREES CONTACTED CORPORATE THEY AGREED WITH DEALERSHIP. SIGHT UNSEEN BY CUSTOMER. NAPERVILE TOYOTA 1ST GOODWILL REPAIR INCLUDED 50% OF PARTS AND SERVICE. AFTER PERSUING THEY AGREED TO LABOR COST. TOYOTA MASS PRODUCED AN ENGINE WITH SMALL VALVE AND LEARNED IT WAS A PROBLEM. CORRECTED IT AND THOUSAND OF CONSUMERS ARE BEING ACCUSE OF LOW LUBRICANT AND NOT MANITENANCE THERE AUTOMOBILE CORRECTLY .
THE VEHICLES ENGINE SIEZED DUE TO OIL GEL. *NLM
1999 TOYOTA CAMRY DRIVER'S DOOR HANDLE BROKE OFF ON OPENING THE DOOR (WITHOUT USING EXCESSIVE FORCE). THIS COULD BE A HAZARD IF SOMEONE NEEDED ENTRANCE TO THE CAR IN AN EMERGENCY. THE HANDLE IS A SURPRISINGLY THIN PLASTIC. THE TOYOTA MECHANIC TOLD ME IT WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM. AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP SAID THE SAME.

20560R16 TIRES SPLITING BETWEEN THE TREADS AND CAUSING THE CAR TO VIBRATE. ONLY HAVE APPROXIMATELY 10,000 MILES ON THE TIRES.
AIR BAG FAILED TO DEPLOY
WHILE DRIVING AT 25 MPH, THE CONSUMER FELL ASLEEP BEHIND THE WHEEL. THE CONSUMER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND STRUCK ANOTHER VEHICLE, THEN COLLIDED WITH A STREET LIGHT POLE AND SUBSEQUENTLY THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONSUMER BROKE HER STERNUM AND WAS HOSPITALIZED FOR A WEEK. THE CONSUMER ALSO HAD A GRANDSON IN THE VEHICLE THAT BROKE TWO FINGERS IN THE ACCIDENT. THE POLICE DID ARRIVE, BUT THE CONSUMER WAS NOT CITED. THE MANUFACTURER AND THE DEALER ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. *JB
TOYOTA DOES NOT FIX THEIR CARS PROPERLY. I BROUGHT MY 1999 CAMRY IN FOR A REPAIR TO THE STEERING COLUMN, THEY "FIXED" THE PROBLEM, BUT PUT MY STEERING WHEEL BACK ON INCORRECTLY. THE DEALERSHIP IS HARD TO DEAL WITH, AND TOYOTA HOME OFFICE, WILL NOT GET INVOLVED, AS THEY STATE THAT EACH OF THEIR DEALERSHIPS ARE INDIVIDUALLY OWNED AND OPERATED.
WHILE DRIVING ON A DOWNWARD INCLINE, THE CONSUMER SWITCHED THE GEARS TO DOWN SHIFT WHEN THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. ALL SYSTEMS FAILED. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. PH SCC
ENGINE OIL SLUDGE BUILDUP AT 107000 MILES. OTHER MANUFACTURERS DON'T HAVE THIS PROBLEM. TOYOTA WANTS MAINTENANCE RECEIPTS/OIL PURCHASE RECEIPTS, PROOF OF OWNERSHIP. TOYOTA WANTS TO REIMBURSE, IF THERE IS AN OIL GELLING RELATED PROBLEM. HOW MANY DO-IT-YOURSELFERS KEEP OIL RECEIPTS? WITH TODAY'S OILS, SLUDGE SHOULD NOT BE A PROBLEM.
THE STRUTS HAVE GONE BAD IN MY 99 TOYOTA SOLARA. I'VE CHECKED MESSAGE BOARDS ON THE NET AND A LOT OF SOLARA OWNERS HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH THE STRUTS. I AM NOT UNDER WARRANTY SO THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT FIX THIS. IT SEEMS TO BE A TOYOTA DEFECT AND NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR.*JB
MY 1999 CAMRY HAS SQUEALING SOUND IN THE FRONT END AND ITS STRUT MOUNTS ARE BAD FOR A WHILE BEFORE IT REACHED 50000 MILES. I NEVER IMAGINED SUCH A PROBLEM WITH CAMRY. IT WAS NOT LIKE PEOPLE SAID THAT CAMRY HAD VERY GOOD RECORDS. MY CAR HAS MANY PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH IT SUCH AS ENGINE LIGHT HAS BEEN ON AND OFF AND NEVER SOLVED. I PAID $99 ONCE FOR THE CHECKING AND DEALERS PAID MANY TIMES. THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE DOES NOT FEEL RIGHT AND THE BRAKE CAN NOT STOP CAR FAST ENOUGH THAT CONTRIBUTED A ACCIDENT IN 2001. THE DOOR SIDE TRIM HAS BEEN OFF THE LINE AND LOOKS UGLY, ETC. I FEEL A LOT OF HEADACHE WITH IT. *JB
FRONT STRUT FAILURE ON XLE V6 CAMRY. NOISE BEGAN AROUND 32,000 MILES. STRUT PLATES REPLACED AT OWNER EXPENSE AT 42,000 MILES AND ALL FOUR STRUTS THEN REPLACED AGAIN AT OWNER EXPENSE AT 59,000 MILES. MANUFACTURER CONTACTED AND REFUSED ASSISTANCE "IN THIS CASE." INDICATION FROM OTHER REPORTS ON NET AND MANUFACTURERS' KNOWLEDGE OF PROBLEM THAT THIS WAS, INDEED, A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THAT MODEL YEAR AND STYLE OF CAMRY.

AROUND 15 MONTHS AGO I PURCHASED A SET OF YOKOHAMA TIRES FOR MY TOYOTA CAMRY FROM MY TOYOTA DEALER AND AS SOON AS THEY PUT THEM ON I NOTICED DRIVABILITY PROBLEMS IN THE FORM OF STEERING SHIMMY. THE DEALER THOUGHT THAT ONE OF THE TIRES MUST HAVE TREAD SEPARATION SO THEY REPLACED THE SUSPECTED TIRE; ALTHOUGH I THOUGHT IT DROVE SOMEWHAT BETTER I STILL COMPLAINED ABOUT THE SHIMMYING. OVER THE COURSE OF THE NEXT 15 MONTHS I CONTINUED TO COMPLAIN AND THEY REBALANCED AND ROTATED THE TIRES BUT IT HAS CONTINUED TO WORSEN OVER TIME. SO I SUSPECT THAT ALL 4 TIRES SUFFER FROM THE PROBLEM AND THAT THE MANUFACTURER HAD A RUN OF DEFECTIVE TIRES.*AK
ON 11/26/2002. I WAS REAR-END WHILE STOPING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN. THE CAR HIT ME FROM THE REAR, WHICH CAUED THE DRIVERS SEAT TO BREAK ON IMPACT. I WAS AT A STAND STILL! THE DRIVERS SEAT SHOULD NOT BROKE AND FELL BACK WHICH CAUSED LOWER BACK INJURY. *AK
TAKEN VEHICLE FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AT FILLING STATION. MECHANIC NOTICED ALL FOUR BRAKE ROTORS WERE CRACKED. OWNER INFORMED NOT TO DRIVE UNTIL REPAIRED, BUT OWNER DROVE VEHICLE. MECHANIC FINALLY CONTACTED OWNER TO BRING VEHICLE IN FOR BRAKE ROTOR REPAIRS. TS
WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE HWY WATER PUMP FAILED CAUSING TIMING BELT AND IDLER TO ALSO FAIL AND DAMAGE TO OIL PUMP.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK THE VEHICLE, THE ENGINE STARTED TO REV. THE VEHICLE THEN ACCELERATED BACKWARDS AND CRASHED INTO A TREE. SHE HAD TO BE HOSPITALIZED FOR INTERNAL INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY DID NOT PROVIDE HER WITH ANY ASSISTANCE. THE TECHNICIAN MADE COSMETIC REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE. AFTER THE REPAIR WHEN ENTERING THE VEHICLE, IT ACCELERATED WITHOUT INTENTION. SHE WAS ABLE TO DECELERATE BY DRIVING ONTO A CURB. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT SHE DID NOT RECEIVE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
THIS SEEM TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM TO 1999 TOYOTA CAMRY. ISC VALVE JUST DIE OFF FOR NO REASON AND NO SIGNS OF ANY BROKEN . CAR CAN NOT BE STARTED WHEN THIS VALVE IS DEFECTED. EVEN IF CAR CAN BE STARTED, IT WILL BE VERY SHAKEY. DT

WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT GO TO THE FLOOR, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO EXPERIENCE EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE.*JB
ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 2 THE DRIVER SIDE LIGHTED MIRROR ON THE VISOR FELL OFF CAUSING THE TWO WIRES BEHIND THE LIGHTED MIRROR TO COME LOOSE AND CONTACT EACH OTHER. THIS PROCEEDED TO SHORT OUT FILLING THE CARS CABIN WITH SMOKE. THE CAR WAS STOPPED IMMEDIATELY ON A LOCAL ROAD, TURNED OFF AND BOTH MY WIFE AND 21-MONTH OLD SON WERE QUICKLY REMOVED FROM THE CAR. I WAS NOTIFIED OF THIS OCCURRENCE BY A LOCAL NEIGHBOR AND UPON MY ARRIVAL SAW A VERY FRIGHTENED WIFE HOLDING MY 21-MONTH OLD SON AND A SMOKE FILLED CAR. UPON RESTARTING THE CAR TO RETURN BACK TO MY HOME THE CAR IMMEDIATELY BEGAN TO MAKE A VERY LOUD WHINING SOUND. AFTER ARRIVING BACK AT MY HOME APPROXIMATELY 1 MINUTE AWAY I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE ONLY TO FIND THAT THE ENGINE WOULD NOT SHUT OFF. I THEN IMMEDIATELY OPENED THE HOOD AND BEGAN TO DISCONNECT THE POSITIVE SIDE OF THE BATTERY. IN THE APPROXIMATE 2 MINUTES THIS TOOK, THE ENGINE PROGRESSIVELY WHINED LOUDER AND LOUDER UNTIL THE STARTER BEGAN TO SMOKE AND THE ENGINE CAME TO AN ABRUPT STOP. AT THIS POINT I FINALLY DISCONNECTED THE POSITIVE SIDE OF THE BATTERY.
CONSUMER WAS LOCKED INSIDE OF VEHICLE AND WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING ELECTRICAL DOOR LOCK WILL NOT OPEN. DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF PROBLEM. CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THAT THE ONLY PROBLEM THE DEALER COULD FIND, WAS THAT THE BATTERY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.*JB
