THE CONTACT'S HEAD STRUCK THE STEERING WHEEL. SHE SUSTAINED INJURIES TO HER NOSE AND HEAD. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT DOES NOT HAVE A CLEAR MEMORY OF THE CRASH DUE TO BEING MEDICATED. THE POWERTRAIN, VIN, ENGINE SIZE, AND NUMBER OF CYLINDERS WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 115,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35-40 MPH, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE REAR END OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE CONTACT HAS PICTURES. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 115,000. UPDATED 03-11-08 *BF
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE TURNING INTO A PARKING SPACE AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE VEHICLE RAPIDLY ACCELERATED AND THE RPM'S REVVED. THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A WALL. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE SHUT OFF IN ORDER FOR IT TO STOP. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WOULD CALL HER BACK AND LET HER KNOW IF HER VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 01V012000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THEY HAVE YET TO CALL. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 36,000.
MY 2000 TOYOTA CAMRY SUFFERED FROM POWER DOOR LOCK DEFECT. MY DOOR LOCKS FLEW BACK AND FORTH SOUNDING LIKE MACHINE GUN FIRE. I HAD JUST STEPPED OUT OF THE CAR WITH THE WINDOW OPENED AND THE DOOR OPEN WHEN ALL HECK BROKE LOOSE. NEITHER THE WINDOWS OR DOORS WOULD WORK. THE REASON I GOT OUT OF MY CAR WAS THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT WAS ON AND ALL THE DOORS WERE SHUT. I GOT OUT TO DOUBLE CHECK THE DOORS WHEN THE CAR WENT BERSERK. I WAS SO TRAUMATIZED BY THIS EVENT I HAD THE CAR TOWED AND TRADED IT ON THE SPOT. *JB
THE REAR TOP CORNERS OF BOTH FRONT DOOR WINDOWS ARE CHIPPING AND STARTING TO CRACK. THIS HAS OCCURRED IN THE PAST MONTH. THERE HAS BEEN NO ACCIDENTS OR DAMAGE DONE TO THE VEHICLE. *TR
ORIGINAL IGNITION KEY WILL NOT START CAR. HAS BEEN DIFFICULT FOR ABOUT A MONTH. LUCKILY IT TOTALLY FAILED IN MY OWN DRIVEWAY. WE JUST RETURNED FROM A LONG TRIP. SAME THING HAPPENED TO TRUNK LOCK 2 YEARS AGO. I HAD TO PAY ABOUT $250.00 TO HAVE IT FIXED AT MY DEALER. EXPECT LARGER BILL FOR IGNITION. DEALER WILL NOT ORDER NEW IGNITION LOCK UNTIL I HAVE IT TOWED IN.BOUGHT CAR AT SAME DEALER. LOCKS SEEM TO BE A WEAK POINT ON THIS MODEL TOYOTA. CAN I GET HELP FROM SOMEBODY? *TR
2000 TOYOTA CAMRY DRIVEN AT NORMAL HIGHWAY SPEED THREW A ROD THROUGH THE ENGINE BLOCK. THIS VEHICLE HAS ALWAYS BEEN PROPERLY MAINTAINED WHICH I CAN PROVE WITH RECEIPTS FROM MY CERTIFIED MECHANIC. NO ONE I SPOKE TO AT TOYOTA WOULD HELP ME. THIS CAR WAS PURCHASED AS A CERTIFIED USED VEHICLE. THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED BUT THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED AT ALL ESP. WITH ONLY 80,000 MILES. I HAD TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE ENGINE ALL AT MY COST. THIS SAME VEHICLE BROKE A TIMING CHAIN A YEAR AND A HALF AGO. FORTUNATELY, IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY THEN. I SPECIFICALLY PURCHASED A TOYOTA BECAUSE OF THEIR SUPPOSED RELIABILITY AND CUSTOMER SERVICE. THIS WILL BE MY LAST TOYOTA. *JB
THE CAR HAS 77000 MILES ON IT. VEHICLE WAS WELL MAINTAINED. I TOOK THE CAR TO DEALER THE CAR FOR MAINTENANCE ONCE IN 4000 - 5000 MILES. WHEN I WAS DRIVING AT 55 ON THE FREEWAY I HEARD A BIG SOUND AND SAW THE SMOKE WAS COMING OUT FROM THE FRONT PANEL. I PULLED OVER THE CAR AND OPENED THE FRONT PANEL. I SAW FIRE FROM TWO DIFFERENT PLACES. I CHECKED IT WITH MY MECHANIC , AND HE TOLD ME THAT THE CONNECTIVITY ROD #2 CAME OUT VERY NEXT TO THE OIL FILTER WHICH CAUSED THE ENGINE TO BLEW UP. I CALLED TOYOTA AND FILED THE COMPLAINT. BUT TOYOTA REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME THAT THEY WON'T REPLACE THE ENGINE. THE CAR WAS BOUGHT FROM THE DEALER SHOP, AND THE DEALER WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR SELLING THE DEFECTIVE CAR. I GOT A DEFECTIVE ENGINE AND FORCED REPLACE IT ON MY OWN. *AK
COMPLAINT AGAINST COSTCO AUTOMOBILE TIRES: PURCHASED 4 COSTCO TIRES IN 2006. THEY WERE FILLED WITH NITROGEN. NOT TOLD THAT ALL AIR MUST BE NITROGEN AIR PUT IN TIRES. FILLED TIRED WITH REGULAR AIR. MAJOR CAR PROBLEMS WITH SHAKING OF STEERING AND FUMES AND SMELL AND TIRES HOT TO TOUCH. TOLD BY MECHANIC THAT WHEN I PUT IN AIR IN NITROGEN FILLED COSTCO TIRES IT CAUSED A CHEMICAL REACTION. MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. THANKFUL I WAS LUCKY, BUT WHO WILL BE THE NEXT VICTIM AND WILL THEY BE SO LUCKY? SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE TO HOLD COSTCO ACCOUNTABLE FOR FILLING TIRES WITH NITROGEN AS IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THEY SHOULD FILL WITH AIR AS WITH INDUSTRY STANDARD. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED A VIBRATION COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE DOMINATOR TOURING MR2 TIRES AND NOTICED A BULGE ON THE OUTER TREAD. THE BULGE CAUSED THE TIRE TO BE WORN. THE TIRES HAVE NOT BEEN INSPECTED TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 49,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000.
VEHICLE HAS A HIGH IDLE UNTIL IT WARMS UP. IN THE MORNING IT COULD GO TO 1 1/2 TO 2 RPM'S. I CAN PULL OUT OF MY PARKING SPOT WITHOUT EVER TOUCHING THE GAS PEDAL. ONCE AT A SET OF LIGHTS IT STILL IS REVVING. IT DOES NOT GO DOWN TO 0 RPM'S EVEN AT THE LIGHTS, WHEN I'M AT A COMPLETE STOP. HAD IT CHECKED SEVERAL TIMES AT TOYOTA ON MORRISSEY BLVD,THEY PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC AND FOUND THE IDLEAIR CONTROL VALVE MALFUNCTIONING. THEY REPLACED IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE AND TESTED SYSTEM WITHIN NORMAL LIMITS. THAT WAS ON 8-28-07. THE FIRST TIME WAS ON5-07-07 TECH FOUND FRONT EXHAUST PIPE HAD AN INTERNAL FAILURE CAUSING VEHICLE TO RUN ABNORMALLY AND LACK POWER..CAUSE INTERNAL FAILURE OPEN CIRCUIT..REPLACED FRONT PIPE SUB ASSEMBLY..AFTER THIS I LEFT IT OVER NIGHT BECAUSE IT STILL WAS REVVING THEY TOLD ME IT WAS A STUCK VALVE AND THEY FIXED IT BUT COULD HAPPEN FROM TIME TO TIME..STILL HAPPENS. OIL GELLING -REPAIR NOT DONE AS PROMISED
I HAVE A 2000 TOYOTA CAMRY THAT HAS HAD FOUR ENGINE COIL PACKS FAIL IN A 2 YEAR PERIOD. THE LAST TIME TWO OUT OF THREE COIL PACKS FAILED SIMULTANEOUSLY. LUCKILY I WAS NOT ON THE HIGHWAY THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED BECAUSE I COULD NOT GET THE CAR TO SHIFT OUT OF FIRST GEAR AND IT WOULD NOT GO FASTER THAN 20 MPH. THE FAILURE OCCURED AS I WAS TRYING TO PARK MY VEHICLE AND THE ENTIRE ENGINE AND CAR SHOOK AS SOON AS I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE AND CONTINUED TO SHAKE AS I PUT IT INTO DRIVE. THE FIRST AND SECOND TIMES I EXPERIENCED THE COIL PACK FAILURES (BOTH SINGLE FAILURES) I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND COULD NOT GET THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE BEYOND 35 MPH. I HAD TO PUT MY EMERGENCY FLASHERS ON UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE OFF OF THE FREEWAY AND TO A SERVICE STATION.
WHITAKER SALES SENT ME ON THE ROAD WITH NO LIGHTS, NO SPARE TIRE AND NO JACK. THEY SOLD ME A 2000 TOYOTA CAMRY AND SAID NO DAMAGE BUT I QUESTION THIS. I QUESTIONED THE FLAT TIRE AND THE LIGHTS .THEY SAID THINGS WERE FINE . I WILL EXPLAIN MORE BY SENDING DISCLOSURES OF THE VEHICLE IF YOU WANT. *JB
I HAVE SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH MY 2000 CAMRY. FOR AT LEAST 3 YEARS NOW--WHEN AFTER A STOP, WHEN I STEP ON THE ACCELERATOR, NOTHING HAPPENS UNTIL I TAP IT DOWN A COUPLE OF TIMES--THEN IT ACCELERATES. ALMOST LIKE YOU HAVE TO PUNCH THE GAS PEDAL A COUPLE OF TIMES TO GET IT TO "TAKE." DANGEROUS WHEN YOU EXPECT TO ACCELERATE AND DO NOT. I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY WITHIN CITY LIMITS DRIVING AT ABOUT 45 MPH. I REALIZED THE VEHICLE I WAS APPROACHING HAD SLOWED DOWN OR HAD STOPPED DUE TO MERGING TRAFFIC. I HAD MORE THAN THE NECESSARY AMOUNT OF CLEARANCE AHEAD. I APPLIED BRAKES. HOWEVER, BRAKES DID NOT SLOW DOWN THE VEHICLE BY ANY SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT -- IT APPEARED AS IF THE ENGINE WAS CONTINUING TO ACCELERATE OR MAINTAIN ITS SPEED. I CRASHED INTO THE VEHICLE FROM BEHIND. THE VEHICLE I CRASHED INTO VEERED TO THE RIGHT. MY VEHICLE CONTINUED FORWARD AND THEN CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE STOPPED IN FRONT. AS A RESULT OF THE CRASH, THE GEAR SELECTOR MOVED INTO N, WHICH IS THE REASON I THINK THE VEHICLE FINALLY STOPPED. I HAVE THE CRASH REPORT DOCUMENTING THIS. IT WAS THE FIRST TIME SUCH AN INCIDENT HAD HAPPENED AFTER I HAD PURCHASED THE CAR USED FROM AN INDIVIDUAL. THE CAR WAS DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS BY MY INSURANCE CARRIER. *TR
TOYOTA CAMRY 2000 VIN#4T1BG22K6YUXXXXXX TODAY (11.04.06), WHILE DRIVING THIS CAR, ENGINE ACCELERATED WITHOUT FURTHER PUSHING GAS PEDDLE. I STOPPED THE CAR AND SHIFTED THE GEAR TO PARKED MODE, STILL ENGINE WAS RUNNING AT MORE THAN 3000 RPM. I STOPPED THE ENGINE AND STARTED AGAIN. STILL ENGINE WAS RUNNING AT HIGH SPEED. WHILE CAR WAS STOPPED, I PUSHED THE GAS PEDDLE SEVERAL TIMES AND STARTED THE ENGINE. THEN ENGINE WAS RUNNING AT NORMAL SPEED. AFTER 1 HR , I OBSERVED THE SAME PROBLEM. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE CHARCOAL CANISTER OF THE EMISSION CONTROL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER THE REPLACEMENT, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DISCONTINUED ILLUMINATING. 2004 OCCASIONAL STICKING ON THE GAS PEDAL, INCREASED BY 2005 HAD SEVERAL MISHAPS. MY MECHANICS IN CHARLOTTE N.C. TRIED TO DO WHATEVER THEY COULD TO MAKE IT NOT STICK. IT WOULD NOT REALLY WORK, HOWEVER ONE OF THE MECHANIC PUT SOMETHING ON IT AND EVERY FEW MONTHS I WOULD GO BACK TO HIM. ONCE I WAS ON A BUSY STREET IN CHARLOTTE DOWNTOWN TRADE STREET, I PUT MY FOOT TO ACCELERATE AND I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO DIE THAT MOMENT. THE GAS PEDAL STUCK, GOD WAS WITH ME. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP, WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTER CABLE SNAPPED DUE TO CORROSION. THE CABLE WAS REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS LOCATED IN A SALT BELT STATE.
WHILE ON A ROAD TRIP, OIL LIGHT CAME, PLENTY OF OIL IN IT. WE HAD TO DRIVE SLOWLY FOR ABOUT 45 MINUTES TO GET OUT OF THE BOONIES, ENGINE LIGHT THEM CAME ON, SHUT DOWN IMMEDIATELY. HAD TO HAVE CAR TOWED SO NOT TO HURT THE ENGINE. MECHANIC SAID THE ENGINE IS SHOT!!! 2000 TOYOTA CAMRY XLE - V6 DOESN'T EVEN HAVE 50,000 MILES ON IT YET. I BOUGHT THIS CAR BRAND NEW AND FOR BIG BUCKS! THOROUGHLY DISGUSTED. NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR UNTIL NOW? *JB
THE WINDOWS IN MY CAR DO NOT WORK. THE PUMPS NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR WILL NOT UNLOCK WITH MY ALARM PAD. THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS DO NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY. THIS IS MY SECOND TOYOTA AND THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WENT BAD IN THE LAST ONE I HAD ALSO. MY TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED AND NOW MY CAR SQUEAKS WHEN I AM DRIVING. IT SQUEAKS LOUDLY. I WAS RIDING IN A 2000 TOYOTA CAMRY WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS REAR-ENDED BY A 3/4 TONE TRUCK CARRYING A TRAILER WITH LAWN MAINTENANCE EQUIPMENT. I EXPERIENCED BACK INJURIES AS DID THE DRIVER. THE COMPLAINT THOUGH, IS THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, WHERE I WAS SITTING WITH MY SEAT BELT IN USE, DID NOT WITHSTAND THE COLLISION. THE UPRIGHT PORTION OF THE SEAT WAS LAYING ON TOP OF THE BACK SEAT AFTER THE IMPACT. THIS CONTRIBUTED TO THE BACK AND SHOULDER INJURIES I RECEIVED. THE TOYOTA WAS NOT HIT FROM THE SIDE SO THE FAILURE OF THE SEAT WAS NOT THE RESULT OF A DIRECT IMPACT. THE SEAT SIMPLY CAME LOOSE AND FAILED TO MAINTAIN ITS POSITION AS I WAS THROWN FORWARD AND THEN BACK. AFTER THE ACCIDENT AND DURING THE REPAIR PROCESS, THE BODY SHOP CHECKED THE SEAT AND STATED THE LOCKING MECHANISM IS WORKING PROPERLY HOWEVER, THE SEAT HAS NOT BEEN "RIGHT" SINCE THE ACCIDENT. IT IS NOT PROPERLY POSITIONED. THE IMPACT WAS FAIRLY SUBSTANTIAL (UP TO $5000 IN DAMAGE - TRUNK WAS CRUMPLED AND OTHER DAMAGE) AND THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. JUST AFTER THE MOMENT OF IMPACT, I LOOKED OVER AT MY MOTHER WHO WAS DRIVING AND WATCHED IN HORROR AS SHE SNAPPED OVER THE STEERING WHEEL. I DON'T KNOW IF AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT REQUIRES A "HEAD-ON" BEFORE THE BAGS WILL DEPLOY BUT THIS SITUATION COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE (INITIALLY I WAS AFRAID MY MOTHER'S NECK HAD FRACTURED) AND HAD MY MOTHER GONE ANY FURTHER FORWARD, THE FAILURE OF THE AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN A SERIOUS IF NOT FATAL INJURY. *NM
2000 CAMRY BRAKES FAILED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STRIKE 2 VEHICLES. *TS WHILE BRAKING THE FOR A TOLL BOTH THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP AND STRUCK TWO VEHICLES.. THE VEHICLE THEN CRASHED THROUGH THE TOLL GATE ON THE BERM. THE VEHICLE CAME TO REST ON THE BERM OUTSIDE THE TOLL GATE. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED DAMAGE TO THE FRONT RIGHT AND LEFT QUARTER PANEL, FRONT RIGHT AND LEFT TURN SIGNAL ASSEMBLY, HOOD, WINDSHIELD AND RIGHT EXTERIOR MIRROR. THIS ACCIDENT ALSO DAMAGED THE OTHER TWO VEHICLES AND TURNPIKE TOLL GATE. *NM
I'M CONCERNED WITH THE PEELING OF THE OUTER SURFACE OF MY WHEEL RIMS THAT ARE PEELING OFF, I THINK IT COULD BE DANGEROUS TO ANYONE IN THE VICINITY WHEN IT FLIES OFF. IT COULD POSSIBLY STRIKE THE HOSE THAT CONTROL THE BRAKES, & COULD DO ANY NUMBER OF DAMAGES TO PEDESTRIANS AND OTHER VEHICLES. COULD YOU CHECK THIS OUT ??*JB
EXCESSIVE NOISE FROM REAR OF CAR. INITIALLY INDICATED AS A TIRE PROBLEM BUT TURNED OUT TO BE INCORRECT. THEN AS A RIM PROBLEM - DETERMINED TO BE INCORRECT. NEXT, CHECKED BREAKING SYSTEM BUT NOT THE CAUSE. DISCUSSED THE PROBLEM WITH TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, STATED THE PROBLEM IS MOST LIKELY WITH THE TIRES, RIMS, BRAKES OR EXHAUST SYSTEM. REPLACED TIRES, EXAMINED RIMS, ALIGNMENT AND BALANCED TIRES, CHECKED EXHAUST SYSTEM - NO PROBLEMS NOTED. DISCUSSED ISSUE WITH LOCAL AUTO SUPPLIER (AUTO ZONE) AND WAS INFORMED TO CHECK THEIR WEBSITE OF RECALLS. LOCATED RECALL, WHEN TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP SHOWED SERVICE REP THE NOTICE. REP INDICATED THAT THERE ARE NOT CAMPAIGNS REGARDING THE 2000 CAMRY SOLARA; STATED THAT A FAILURE OF THE AXLE BEARINGS/HUB IS EXTREMELY REAR. REQUESTED TECH TEST DRIVE THE CAR TO HELP RESOLVE THE NOISE PROBLEM. THE TECH DROVE THE CAR, INFORMED SERVICE REP AND MYSELF THAT THE REAR AXLE BEARINGS MUST BE REPLACED. REPEATED LINKAGE TO RECALL AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE IS NO RECALL ON MY CAR. BASED ON THE FACT THAT THEIR SYSTEM WOULD HAVE NOTIFY THEM OF ANY CAMPAIGNS WHEN COMPLETING EARLY WORK . ORDERED THE PARTS AND SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT TO REPLACE THE AXLE(S). CHECKED YOUR WEBSITE AND LOCATED NHTSA CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION NUMBER 00V154000. LEFT WORK, STOPPED AT A GAS STATION, WENT IN TO PAY FOR GAS, AND WHEN I CAME OUT THE DRIVER DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN. THERE WAS NO WARNING THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN. I WAS REALLY PANICKED INITIALLY BECAUSE I WAS AFRAID THE OTHER DOORS WOULDN'T WORK; IT WAS LATE AT NIGHT IN A BAD AREA OF TOWN. I TRIED THE REMOTE, THEN THE KEY, AND THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN AT ALL. I FINALLY WENT TO THE PASSENGER DOOR AND WAS ABLE TO UNLOCK THAT DOOR, CRAWL OVER THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT SEAT AND SQUEEZE MYSELF IN TO THE DRIVER'S SEAT. I WENT TO THE TOYOTA DEALER TO HAVE THIS FIXED. I HAVE NEVER BEFORE HAD A DOOR ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE JUST STOP WORKING, NOT EVER. WHILE THE CAR WAS IN THE GARAGE, THE FIRST BRAND NEW PART THAT CAME IN WAS DEFECTIVE, I HAD TO WAIT FOR THE DEALER TO GET IN A SECOND ONE THAT WAS FUNCTIONAL. I FIND THAT ODD TOO. ALMOST $410.18 LATER THE DOOR WAS OPERATIONAL, AT MY EXPENSE. MY CONCERNS WITH THIS IS THE FACT THAT IF THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE THIS COULD POSE A SEVERE SAFETY HAZARD TO SOMEONE WHO IS IN AN ACCIDENT AND MAY NOT BE ABLE TO EXIT THEIR CAR. OR IF SOMEONE IS IN A BAD PLACE, LIKE I WAS, AND CAN'T GET BACK IN TO THEIR CAR BECAUSE THE DOOR IS NOT FUNCTIONAL. I FIND IT ODD THE AUTOMATIC LATCH BROKE WITHOUT WARNING OR NOTHING TO INDICATE PRIOR TO THE HAPPENING THAT IT COULD, AND SECONDLY, THE FIRST PART THE DEALER GOT IN WAS DEFECTIVE. MAKES ME WONDER IF THE PART HAS A HISTORY OF BEING DEFECTIVE TO BEGIN WITH. I'VE NEVER BEEN ADVISED OF ANY RECALL ON MY CAR; SO DO NOT KNOW IF THERE ARE RECALLS FOR THIS MODEL OR NOT. WE DID CONTACT TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS ABOUT THIS ISSUE, AND WERE TOLD THIS WAS NOT COMPENSATORY. THE CAMRY [XXX] I BOUGHT THE CAR IN AUGUST 2000 ENGINE PREMATURELY WEARING OUT, GIVING OUT LOUD RATTLING AND KNOCKING NOISES, EVEN THE CAR IS ONLY 5.5 YEARS OLD WITH 95000 PAMPERED HIGHWAY MILES ON IT. I WAS REALLY SURPRISED THAT THE CAR WITH LESS THAN 6 YEARS OF DRIVE, AND BEING WELL MAINTAINED, THE ENGINE COULD BE OF SUCH INFERIOR QUALITY. IT IS TOTALLY OPPOSITE OF MY EXPECTATION WHEN I FIRST MADE THE DECISION TO BUY THIS CAR. I WAS BANKING ON THE HIGH QUALITY OF THE CAR, THE DURABILITY. THIS IS IN REGARDS TO A PREVIOUS ODI COMPLAINT THAT I FILED ON 3/5/2010. THE ODI NUMBER IS: 10316956. I JUST WANTED TO ADD THAT THIS 2000 TOYOTA CAMRY HAS A STANDARD (MANUAL) SHIFT TRANSMISION SO WHEN THE ACCELERATION HAPPENED WE JUST PUSHED IN THE CLUTCH AND COASTED TO A STOP. TURNED IGNITION KEY OFF, PUMPED THE GAS PEDAL A FEW TIMES, AND STARTED THE CAR. IT WAS FINE THEN. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MYSELF MAYBE 8 TIMES. *TR
MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS BEEN ON FOR MORE THAN A YEAR. IT WOULD NOT TURN OFF. BECAUSE OF THE SMOG CHECK ISSUE, I HAD TO TAKE MY VEHICLE TO THE TOYOTA DEALER FOR THEM TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. AFTER A $75 DIAGNOSIS, DEALER EXPLAINS THE "CHECK ENGINE" CODE REFERS TO A TORQUE CONVERTER PROBLEM AND POINTS TO A SPEED SENSOR MALFUNCTION. NOWHERE IN THE MAINTAINANCE SCHEDULE DOES IT SAY REPLACE THE TIMING BELT AT FOUR YEARS.

UPON EXPLOSION I BROUGHT THE CAR TO A STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CHANGED THE TIRE WITH A SPARE, AND NOTICED A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE - A 2000 TOYOTA CAMRY. I CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER (GOODYEAR) AND HAD THEM EVALUATE THE TIRE ... THEY CLAIMED I MUST HAVE IMPACTED A SUBSTANTIAL OBJECT WHICH IS NOT THE CASE. THE INSURANCE COMPANY COVERED REPAIRS AMOUNTING TO ALMOST $2000.00 I STILL HAVE THE TIRE AWAITING THE OUTCOME OF THIS INVESTIGATION, AS GOODYEAR WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS OBVIOUSLY DEFECTIVE TIRE. *JB

I STILL HAVE THE PROBLEM AND AM WORRIED. WHAT IS MY NEXT STEP OF ACTION? WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ENTER THE PARKING LOT HER VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED FOR APPROX. 55-60' AND CRASHED INTO THE MARVIN MARKET STOREFRONT PLATE GLASS WINDOWS. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED INTO THE MARVIN MARKET STRIKING A PERSON INSIDE THE STORE. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED THROUGH THE STORE AND STRUCK A SECOND PERSON INSIDE THE STORE. THE VEHICLE CAME TO A REST INSIDE THE STORE AND ON TOP OF THE SECOND PERSON THAT WAS STRUCK. THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE STATED TO THE RESPONDING POLICE OFFICER THAT THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND SHE IMMEDIATELY JAMMED HER FOOT ON THE BRAKES WITH NO SUCCESS. *TR
