THE SEAT BELT STAYS AT FAR EXTENSION AND WILL NOT RETRACT, SO IT WILL NOT FUNCTION. I WENT TO MY LOCAL REPAIR COMPANY AND THEY SAID IT COULD NOT BE FIXED AND MUST BE REPLACED. I FIRST NOTIFIED TOYOTA OF THIS ON MAY 21, 2012 BY SPEAKING WITH THE "CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE CENTER". [XXX] SAID SOMEONE WOULD CONTACT ME WITHIN 1 BUSINESS DAY. 2 BUSINESS DAYS LATER LATE PM I RECEIVED A CALL FROM [XXX] WHO TOLD ME TO GO TO A TOYOTA DEALER TO GET IT CHECKED OUT & GET AN ESTIMATE FOR REPLACEMENT. I ASKED IF IT COULD BE REPLACED FOR FREE, SINCE IT IS A SAFETY ITEM THAT SHOULD NOT MALFUNCTION. SHE SAID GET THE ESTIMATE FIRST AND THEN CALL HER. I WENT THE FOLLOWING DAY (5/22) AND RECEIVED THE ESTIMATE. ON THE MORNING OF MAY 22 I CALLED [XXX] NUMBER & LEFT A MESSAGE. ON THE AFTERNOON OF 5/22 I CALLED AGAIN. SHE AGAIN WAS NOT THERE, SO I HELD ON FOR SOMEONE ELSE TO HELP ME. [XXX] SAID [XXX] WAS NOT AVAILABLE. I TOLD HER I AM FORCED TO DRIVE WITHOUT A SEATBELT, AND ASKED IF SHE OR SOMEONE ELSE COULD HELP ME. SHE SAID I CAN ONLY SPEAK WITH MY "CASE MANAGER" [XXX]. I INSISTED ON SPEAKING WITH HER MANAGER. SHE TOLD ME THE MANAGER WENT HOME. I ASKED TO SPEAK WITH ANOTHER MANAGER. SHE SAID I COULD ONLY SPEAK WITH [XXX] WHO WOULD ABSOLUTELY CALL ME BACK WITH 24 HOURS. 24 HOURS LATER [XXX] HAD NOT CALLED. I CALLED HER AND SHE DID NOT ANSWER, BUT I SPOKE WITH SOMEONE ALSO IN HER DEPARTMENT WHO AGAIN SAID NEITHER HE ("[XXX]")NOR ANYONE ELSE COULD HELP ME THAT DAY. HE SAID A MANAGER WOULD CALL ME BACK WITHIN 24 HOURS. I TOLD HIM I AM DRIVING AROUND FOR DAYS WITHOUT A SEATBELT WAITING FOR THEM, AND INSISTED ON SPEAKING WITH HIS MANAGER'S MANAGER. THE LATCH ON MY TOYOTA CAMRY LE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT SEAT BELT WILL NOT LATCH. YOU MUST HOLD DEPRESSED THE CENTER BUTTON OF THE BUCKLE AS YOU INSERT THE LATCH FOR IT TO OPERATE. I HAVE JUST GOTTEN THIS CAR AND DO NOT KNOW HOW LONG THE HAS BEEN DEFECTIVE. *TR
THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL STICKS. EVERY TIME I COME TO A HALT FOR ABOUT 20SECS TO 1 MINUTE. I HAVE TO PUSH HARD A COUPLE OF TIMES OR MORE TO RELEASE THE PEDAL FROM THE STUCK POSITION. THE CAR THEN GOES INTO SUDDEN ACCELERATION. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS AND HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. I NOTICED THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY ACCELERATOR PEDAL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30-40 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AS THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC ADVISED THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 85,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. UPDATED 8/23/12 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE STALLED AT BOTH LOW AND HIGH SPEEDS. THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATED, STEERING STARTED TO SHAKE/VIBRATE, THEN THE TRANSMISSION WOULD STALL AND STEERING BECAME DIFFICULT. UPDATED 09/06/2012 *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE MAKING A TURN, AN ABNORMAL SOUND EMITTED FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THE MOTOR MOUNT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,500.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 TOYOTA CAMRY EQUIPPED WITH MICHELIN HARMONY 205/65/R15 TIRES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT. A SPARE TIRE WAS INSTALLED AS A REPLACEMENT. APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH LATER, THE SAME FAILURE OCCURRED ON THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO HAVE THE FAILURES DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE ON THE TIRES WAS APPROXIMATELY 10,000. THE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 20 MPH AND ATTEMPTED TO ADJUST THE DRIVER'S SIDE ELECTRONIC SEAT ADJUSTER. THE SEAT ADJUSTER FAILED AND THE SEAT WAS ABNORMALLY RECLINED TOWARD THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO ADJUSTED THE DRIVER SEAT INTO A HIGHER POSITION THAT WOULD NOT ALLOW THE CONTACT TO REACH THE STEERING WHEEL. THE DEALER DENIED ANY FURTHER ASSISTANCE WITH THE DRIVER SEAT FAILURE. THERE WERE NO FURTHER REPAIRS. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 113,000. UPDATED 08/31/11 *BF UPDATED 2/9/12 *CN
IT WAS RAINING VERY HARD AND THE TEMP OUTSIDE WAS AROUND 70. I MAY HAVE DRIVEN THRU A PUDDLE JUST BEFORE I TURNED MY CAR , AS I TURNED MY STEERING FROZE UP, LIKE I LOST POWER STEERING ONLY WORSE, I COULDN'T TURN THE WHEEL TO STRAIGHTEN OUT MY CAR SO I HAD TO STOP MY CAR. AFTER A FEW SECONDS I WAS ABLE TO GET CONTROL OF THE STEERING AGAIN. AFTER DRIVING FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES THE STEERING PROBLEMS WENT WAY. THIS STEERING PROBLEM CONTINUES TO OCCUR WHENEVER IT'S VERY WET OUTSIDE, WHEN IT'S RAINING HARD. I BROUGHT MY CAR TO A AUTO MECHANIC WHO CHECKED THE BELTS AND STEERING FLUID AND SAID EVERYTHING LOOKED NORMAL. *TT
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS HE HEARD LOUD NOISES COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO ADVISED HIM THAT THE WELDING ON THE SUB-FRAME WAS DEFECTIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE; YET THEY ADVISED HIM THAT HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 153,000.
DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT BUCKLE NOT WORKING. BELT CAN NOT GO INTO THE BUCKLE UNLESS YOU HOLD DOWN THE RED BUTTON RELEASE BUCKLE THEN INSERT THE BELT WITH FORCE. IT DOES RELEASE THE BELT. *LN
WE BOUGHT A BRAND NEW 2001 TOYOTA CAMRY CE IN 2000 AND WERE PRETTY COMFORTABLE WITH THE VEHICLE UNTIL SOMETHING HAPPENED TO US ABOUT 8 WEEKS AGO. ON JAN 22, WE WERE DRIVING ON I 15 FREEWAY SOUTH FROM LA BACK TO LAS VEGAS. ABOUT AFTER 30 MINUTES ON THE ROAD I HEARD SOMETHING SOUNDING LIKE A CRACK UNDER THE VEHICLE (LAST ONLY ABOUT ONE SECOND). I THOUGHT THE VEHICLE MIGHT HIT A ROCK UNDERNEATH AND SLOWED DOWN TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT EXACTLY HAPPENED. THEN IN ABOUT 3 MINUTES THE VEHICLE LOST THE POWER. I TURNED ON THE EMERGENCY FLASH LIGHT AND PULLED THE VEHICLE TO THE ROADSIDE. I COULD SEE THAT THE ENGINE OIL WAS LEAKING OUT BADLY. AFTER LOTS OF HASSLES THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO CROWN TOYOTA DEALER SHOP IN ONTARIO. THE NEXT DAY MORNING THEIR SERVICE MANAGER CALLED TO TELL ME THAT NOTHING INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE HIT A ROCK SINCE THERE WAS NO DAMAGE OUTSIDE OF THE ENGINE. TO THE BEST OF HIS JUDGMENT THE ENGINE WAS DAMAGED FROM INSIDE. HE SAID SOMETHING FROM INSIDE OF ENGINE COULD FALL DOWN AND KNOCKED THE ENGINE THAT CAUSED THE LEAKING. SOON AFTER THAT MY INSURANCE COMPANY DENIED MY CLAIM STATING THAT THEY TALKED TO THE CROWN TOYOTA DEALER SHOP AND CONCLUDED THE ACCIDENT WAS CAUSED BY THE MECHANICAL FAILURE OF THE ENGINE, WHICH IS NOT COVERED BY THE INSURANCE POLICY. LAST MONTH I HAD THE ENGINE REPLACED IN AN AUTO SHOP AND WAS TOLD THE SAME THING ABOUT THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. FROM PICTURES ATTACHED ONE CAN SEE A BIG HOLE KNOCKED OUT ON ENGINE(SEE ATTACHED PICTURE). IT IS A REAL SURPRISE TO ME SINCE THE VEHICLE HAS RUN ONLY 79,500 MILES AND WE GAVE IT MAINTENANCE ON REGULAR BASES AS REQUIRED. BY THIS LETTER WE REQUEST AN INVESTIGATION OF WHAT ENGINE DEFECT CAUSED THE FAILURE AND AN EXPLANATION FROM TOYOTA COMPANY. AT THE SAME TIME WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO ASK FOR COMPENSATIONS FOR THE LOSS CAUSED BY THIS MECHANICAL FAILURE. THIS COMPLAINT HAS BEEN SENT TO NATIONAL CUSTOMER RELATION OF TOYOTA MOTO SALES. *TR

UPON IMPACT INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE, WHICH WAS AT A FULL STOP, THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY CAUSING INJURIES TO MY WIFE, WHO WAS SEATED IN THE PASSENGER SEAT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD CRACKING NOISE COMING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE AS THE VEHICLE STALLED. AFTER INSPECTION, THE CONTACT NOTICED OIL LEAKING FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT PART OF THE ENGINE HAD FALLEN AND CAUSED THE ENGINE TO LEAK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE ENTIRE ENGINE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. MY 2001 CAMRY V 6 STARTED BUCKING AND SPEEDING AND SLOWING. IT TURNED OUT TO BE A SPEED SENSOR FAILURE (OP CODE 500). *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME STUCK IN A DEPRESSED POSITION. HEAVY PRESSURE WAS THEN APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL AND HE WAS ABLE TO LIFT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL OUT OF THE DEPRESSED POSITION USING HIS FOOT. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER AND SHUT OFF. IT WAS THEN TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE HE WAS TOLD THE ACCELERATOR CABLE FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 172,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 174,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 TOYOTA SOLARA V6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS OIL SLUDGE IN THE ENGINE WHICH CAUSED POLLUTION AND AN ENGINE FIRE. WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED ON BLACK SMOKE EMITTED FROM THE EXHAUST PIPE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO INFORMED HIM THAT THE ENGINE WAS CONTAMINATED WITH OIL AND IT HAD TO BE REPLACED FOR $8,000. THERE WERE NO RECALLS OR WARRANTIES FOR THE FAILURE. 2001 TOYOTA CAMRY. CONSUMER STATES INTENDED ACCELERATION *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED HIS WIFE WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE, WHEN IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO A UTILITY POLE. *JB
WHEN DRIVING THROUGH HEAVY RAIN WITH WATER STANDING ON ROAD, A/C FAILS. THIS FAILURE OCCURRED TWICE SO FAR. DEALER INDICATED THAT SUCH FAILURE WAS NORMAL WHEN WATER GETS ON BELT AND BELT SLIPS. NO REPAIR MADE. APPARENTLY THEY HAVE SEEN THIS FAILURE MANY TIMES BEFORE. FAILURE RESULTS IN RAPID AND UNEXPECTED CONDENSATION ON WINDSHIELD AND OTHER WINDOWS WITH LOSS OF VISIBILITY DURING HEAVY RAIN), CAUSING A HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITION. DEALER STATES THAT THERE ARE NO SERVICE BULLETINS CONCERNING THIS PROBLEM. *TR
MY 2001 TOYOTA CAMRY STARTED DEVELOPING A PROBLEM MORE THAN TWO YEARS AGO, WHERE IT WOULD START RUNNING ROUGH AND THEN STALL--OR SOMETIMES STALL WITHOUT ANY WARNING. I HAVE TAKEN IT INTO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP NUMEROUS TIMES, BUT THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIX IT. IF THE CAR STALLS OR COMES CLOSE TO STALLING THEN THE ENGINE LIGHT GOES ON, AND THE DEALERSHIP HAS ONLY BEEN ABLE TO RESET THE ENGINE LIGHT. RECENTLY THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE CHARCOAL CANISTER WHEN THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, BUT THAT HAS NOT HELPED THE RUNNING ROUGH/STALLING PROBLEM. THE CAR SEEMS TO RUN ROUGH OR STALL IF IT HAS GONE ABOVE 4000 RPMS ,AND WE CAN MODERATE THE INSTANCES OF A PROBLEM BY AVOIDING SUDDEN ACCELERATION. MY FEAR IS THAT THE CAR WILL STALL IN TRAFFIC AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. *TR

THE GAS PEDAL IN MY TWO THOUSAND ONE (2001) TOYOTA CAMRY STICKS. IT LOCKS AND FAILS TO ACCELERATE ONCE I LET UP OFF THE GAS UPON REACHING MAXIMUM SPEED THEN NEED TO GIVE GAS TO MAINTAIN ACCEPTABLE SPEED SECONDS LATER. EQUALLY IT FAILS TO ACCELERATE WHEN IDLING IN STOP-AND-GO TRAFFIC AND NEEDS TO PICK UP SPEED AS TRAFFIC BEGINS TO MOVES. IT'S ALWAYS BEEN LIKE THAT AND FORTUNATELY NEVER LOCKED IN UNDESIRED ACCELERATION. PLEASE CONSIDER HOW THE MECHANICS OF THAT PROBLEM RELATES TO THE CURRENT TOYOTA GAS PEDAL PROBLEMS, IF AT ALL. I DON'T WANT ANYTHING FROM NHTSA OR TOYOTA AS I LOOK FORWARD TO GETTING ANOTHER CAR DUE TO THE VEHICLE'S EXPENSIVE EMISSIONS FAILURE RATHER THAN GAS PEDAL ISSUES. YOU ARE HOWEVER WELCOME TO ACCESS MY VEHICLE IF IT COULD HELP IN LOOKING INTO THE HISTORY OF WHAT'S REALLY GOING ON WITH GAS PEDALS. *TR
TOYOTA 2001 CAMRY - SUDDEN ACCELERATION. WHILE PARKING THE CAR, THE CAR ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. THE CAR EMBEDDED ITSELF IN A DEEP SNOWBANK APPROXIMATELY 6 TO 8 FEET AWAY. NO INJURIES, MINOR DAMAGE TO GRILL. THE CAR WAS SO DEEPLY EMBEDDED THAT IT TOOK SEVERAL HOURS TO DIG IT OUT. THE FRONT TWO WHEELS WERE ELEVATED - THE ENTIRE VEHICLE WAS ON A SLANT OF ABOUT 10 TO 15 DEGREES. A 48 YEAR OLD WOMAN AND AN 8 YEAR OLD CHILD WERE IN THE CAR. *TR
I HAD AN ACCIDENT RECENTLY WITH MY 2001 TOYOTA CAMRY. MY HUSBAND ALSO HAD AN ACCIDENT IN THE SAME CAR A FEW YEARS BACK. BUT BOTH ARE KIND OF SAME SCENARIO. THE BRAKES DON'T WORK PROPERLY IN RAIN.TRIED TO STOP BUT NOTHING HAPPENED AND WE REAR ENDED CARS BEFORE US. *TR
2001 TOYOTA SOLARA WITH 147000 MILES. GAS PEDAL HAS A CATCH IN IT WHEN IT IS ALL THE WAY BACK, OR RETURNED. WHEN YOU GO TO PRESS DOWN, IT WON'T GO DOWN AND FEELS LIKE IT IS CATCHING ON SOMETHING. IT WILL SUDDENLY RELEASE CAUSING SOME OVER ACCELERATION. OUR LOCAL DEALER SAYS THIS IS NOT PART OF THE TOYOTA RECALL AND IT WILL COST $35.00 TO CLEAN IT UP TO FIX. STICKING ACCELERATOR ON 2001 TOYOTA CAMRY. *TR
I HAVE 2001 TOYOTA CAMRY 4 CYL LE MODEL. MANY TIMES WHEN I BEGIN MY TRIP FROM MY HOME MY CAR ACCELERATES EVEN I HAVE MY FOOT OFF THE GAS PEDAL. IT ONLY HAPPENS WITHIN FIRST FEW MILES AND THEN THE PROBLEM GOES AWAY. I HAVE A STOP SIGN CLOSE TO MY HOME AND BEFORE NEARING THE STOP SIGN I LIFT MY FOOT FROM GAS PEDAL AND CAR WILL ACCELERATE AND THEN I HAVE TO STEP ON MY BRAKES TO STOP IT BY THE STOP SIGN. IT IS VERY TRICKY IN WINTER WHEN THERE IS ICE ON ROAD. SINCE I AM AWARE OF THIS ISSUE I DO NOT STEP ON GAS AT ALL TILL I HIT THE FIRST STOP SIGN. ONCE THE CAR IS RUNNING FOR A WHILE THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO GO AWAY. I WANTED TO BRING THIS TO THE ATTENTION AS I FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT THERE IS SOMETHING MORE THAN STICKY PEDAL. SINCE THE PROBLEM GOES AWAY AFTER FEW MINUTES OF DRIVING. THAT CLEARLY INDICATES THAT THE PROBLEM IS NOT WITH STICKY PEDAL. SINCE MY CAR IS NOT RECALLED I HOPE SOMEONE LOOKS INTO THIS YEAR MODEL TOO. *TR

I DID THE ALIGNMENT FROM SEVERAL PLACES SUCH AS SEARS, FIRESTONE. THEY DON'T FIND ANY PROBLEM IN THE ALIGNMENT REPORT BUT WHEN I DRIVE, THE CAR HEAVILY PULLS ON LEFT SIDE. ON 9/24/08 I WENT TO TOWN FAIR TIRE AND HAD FOUR TIRES REPLACED AT A COST OR $539.12. I WAS TOLD YOKOHAMA TIRES WERE THE BEST AND HAD THE BEST MILEAGE UP TO 80,000 MILES. AT THAT TIME I HAD THE FOUR TIRES REPLACED WITH THE MILEAGE ON MY CAR AT 74,000 MILES. ON 6/3/09 I BROUGHT MY CAR WHICH NOW HAD 81,000 MLS. ON IT WITH A BUBBLE ON MY TIRE AND HAD TO REPLACE IT AT A CA COST OF $134.51. FIVE MONTHS LATER ON 11/02/09 I WENT BACK TO TOWN FAIR TIRE WITH 83,000 MILES ON MY CAR AND ANOTHER BUBBLE ON MY TIRE. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR FORTY TWO YEARS AND NEVER HAD A BUBBLE ON A TIRE AND IN A LITTLE OVER A YEAR AND LESS THAN 10,000 MILES I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE TWO OF THESE TIRES BECAUSE OF BUBBLES. HAVE HAD 4 WINDSHIELDS SINCE WE BOUGHT THIS CAR. THE FIRST TIME IT WAS REPLACED THE GLASS PEOPLE SAID THAT THERE WAS NO PRIMER UNDER THE BLACK EXTERIOR PAINT WHICH PROBABLY CONTRIBUTED TO THE BREAK. EACH TIME AFTER THE REPAIR PEOPLE SAID THE SAME THING. LACK OF PRIMER ACCELERATED BODY ROT AROUND THE WINDSHIELD. NOW WATER POURS INTO THE DRIVER SIDE FLOOR DUE TO ROT AROUND THE WINDSHIELD - AUTO BODY SHOP IS LOOKING AT IT NOW. THEY SAID IT COULD BE EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR, THEY ARE GOING TO TRY TO FIX IT SO THAT IT DOESN'T LEAK. THIS IS THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT. BASED UPON A CRASH RECONSTRUCTION ANALYSIS, THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING IN EXCESS OF 100 MPH WHEN THE DRIVER LOST DIRECTIONAL CONTROL AND STRUCK THE BACK OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. I WAS TRAVELING IN MY TOYOTA CAMRY 2001 ON I 75 S FROM ROYAL OAK TO DETROIT, MI AROUND 2:30 AM ON SEPTEMBER 6TH 2009 ,WHEN SUDDENLY I HEARD SOME CRACKING NOISE UNDERNEATH THE HOOD AND FIRE FROM UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. I WAS TRAVELING AT AROUND 70 MILES/HR AND TRIED TO STEER THE VEHICLE TO WARDS THE SHOULDER AND POWER STEERING FAILED AND I SAW ENGINE LIGHT BLINKING, THEN TRIED TO SLOW DOWN AND BRAKES FAILED. I QUICKLY USED HAND BRAKE AND STOPPED THE VEHICLE. I QUICKLY TURNED OFF THE IGNITION AND TRIED TO OPEN THE DOOR AND NOTICED THAT IT WAS LOCKED. I QUICKLY PULLED BOTH THE KNOBS SIMULTANEOUSLY AND GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND CALLED 911. BY THE TIME FIRE ENGINE CAME TO THE SCENE, THE CAR WAS ON HUGE FIRE. MY CAR DIDN'T HAVE ANY MAJOR ISSUES IN THE PAST. I DID CHANGE TIMING BELT AS PER THE COMPANY GUIDELINES AND AT AUTHORIZED DEALER/SERVICE CENTER. I CHANGED THE TIRES 2 MONTHS AGO AND OIL CHANGE 1 AND HALF MONTH AGO. NEITHER COPS NOR ME COULD COME TO A CONCLUSION ON WHAT WENT WRONG.
