TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE BRAKING FROM 3 MPH IN AN ATTEMPT TO MAKE A LEFT TURN, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT COASTED OFF THE ROADWAY AND WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY WHERE THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE EGR VALVE. THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE CONTACT STATED THE FAILURE WOULD ONLY OCCUR WHEN TRAVELING AT LOW SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE UNKNOWN REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE REPAIR DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE AND IT RECURRED AT LEAST FIVE TIMES FOLLOWING REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER BUT THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE AN ADEQUATE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE 119,000.
OIL SLUDGE AND GELLING PROBLEM ON ALL TOYOTA ENGINES IN CAMRY, CAMRY SOLARA FROM 1998 TO 2002. I HAVE THIS ISSUE AS WELL AND THE CAR GIVES OUT SMOKE, FAILS INSPECTION, CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS COME ON AND LEADS TO PREMATURE ENGINE FAILURE. *TR
2001 TOYOTA CAMRY HEADLIGHT LENSES ARE FOGGED AND NO LONGER CLEAR. HEADLIGHTS ARE NOT A BRIGHT DUE TO THE CONDITION. NEARLY HIT BICYCLIST CROSSING IN CROSSWALK AT NIGHT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE DRIVER SUFFERED A HEART ATTACK AND CRASHED INTO A PARKED VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY AND THE VEHICLE ERUPTED INTO FLAMES. THE POLICE, AMBULANCE, AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS WERE CALLED TO THE SCENE AND REPORTS WERE FILED. THE DRIVER WAS FATALLY INJURED IN THE CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED AND TOWED TO A COLLISION CENTER. THE INFORMATION WAS PROVIDED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY REPORT. ON NOVEMBER 4, 2008 AS I WAS ATTEMPTING TO PARK MY CAR AT THE WILLIAMSBURG, VA POST OFFICE AND WAS ABOUT 2/3 OF THE WAY INTO THE PARKING SPOT WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE ENGINE ROARED, THE CAR ACCELERATED, JUMPED THE CURB AND HIT THE SIDE OF THE BRICK BUILDING. FORTUNATELY THERE WERE NO PEDESTRIANS IN MY PATH. WE HAD THE CAR TOWED TO CASEY TOYOTA IN WILLIAMSBURG WHERE THEY INSPECTED THE BRAKES AND FOUND THAT THEY WERE WORKING PROPERLY. WE THEN REQUESTED THAT TOYOTA SEND A REPRESENTATIVE TO INSPECT THE CAR TO DETERMINE WHAT MIGHT HAVE CAUSED THIS ACCIDENT. THE INSPECTOR'S REPORT STATES THAT HE FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. (THIS OF COURSE ALL TOOK PLACE PRIOR TO THE RECENT RECALLS). WE INCURRED EXPENSES TOTALING OVER $600. BECAUSE OF THIS ACCIDENT. SINCE WE FELT THIS CAR WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE, WE DECIDED TO TRADE IT IN AND HAD TO ACCEPT A REDUCED TRADE-IN BECAUSE IT WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT AND ALSO INCURRED GREAT EXPENSE IN PURCHASING A NEW CAR. RESEARCH HAS SHOWN THAT THIS WAS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT AS THE RECENT RECALLS HAVE SHOWN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING INTO A PARKING SPACE AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH THE CONTACT APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CRASH CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND DAMAGE TO THE OTHER VEHICLE INVOLVED. BOTH VEHICLES WERE REPAIRED AND COVERED BY THE CONTACTS INSURANCE COMPANY. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE FAILURE OCCURRED TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,000.
THE WHOLE INSTRUMENT PANELS LIGHTS AND STEREO BEGIN FLICKERING ON AND OFF AND CUTS OUT THE STEREO LIKE TURNING IT ON AND OFF WHEN THIS HAPPENS. THERE SEEMS TO BE NO REASON OR RHYME AS TO WHEN OR WHY IT HAPPENS. IT HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES AND OCCASIONALLY SMELL A BURNING SMELL WHICH SEEMS TO GO AWAY IF I TURN EVERYTHING BUT THE MOTOR OFF. I AM ALSO EXPERIENCING THE HEADLIGHT LENSES ARE FOGGED AND HAVE POOR VISIBILITY. WHEN I MENTIONED THE PROBLEM TO THE DEALER THEY SAID THEY WOULD JUST SWITCH IT OUT WITH ANOTHER VEHICLES HEADLIGHT. THEY CLAIM TO HAVE DONE THIS BUT IT LOOKS EXACTLY THE SAME TO ME. *TR
VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH AND AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *TR
DROVE CAR ON INTERSTATE & WHEN REACHED APPROX. 60 MPH, FELT VIBRATION & A SHUDDERING; PREPARED TO PULL OVER BUT BEFORE I COULD DO SO, THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE EXPLODED, AS I LITERALLY WATCHED MY RIGHT FRONT END COME APART BEFORE MY EYES; COULD HARDLY CONTROL STEERING BUT MANAGED TO PULL OFF ROAD TO SAFETY. AFTER I HAD STOPPED, I GOT OUT & SAW THE WHOLE TREAD OF THE TIRE IN THE ROAD, ALONG WITH PARTS OF MY CAR ALL OVER THE PLACE. I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED! I CALLED MY HUSBAND WHO PUT SPARE TIRE ON & I SLOWLY DROVE IT HOME & CAR DIED REPEATEDLY DURING THE DRIVE WE USED BATTERY CABLES TO JUMPSTART, OVER & OVER AGAIN UNTIL WE GOT IT HOME & PARKED IT. THE NEXT DAY THE CAR WOULD NOT START AT ALL. I HAD THE CAR TOWED (OUT OF POCKET) TO LOCAL DEALERS SERVICE DEPT. (B'HAM, AL). SERVICE MAN HAD TO REPLACE ENTIRE ENGINE HARNESS DUE TO THE HARNESS BEING RIPPED OUT THROUGH THE RIGHT FRONT HEAD LIGHT/PASS FRONT FENDER (ABOUT 3 FEET RIPPED OFF). SERVICE MANAGER SAID HE HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS & THAT I SHOULD REPORT IT & TRY TO HAVE TIRE COMPANY PAY FOR DAMAGES, ETC. ENGINE HARNESS DESTROYED, ESTIMATED COST $1890.50 TO REPAIR (NOT INCLUDING BODY WORK WHICH IS ESTIMATED TO BE ANYWHERE FROM ANOTHER $1,500 TO $2,000 IN DAMAGES). THE FENDER, FRONT HEADLIGHT AND BUMPER WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED COMPLETELY. I'VE MADE SOME ARRANGEMENTS TO GO AHEAD & GET VEHICLE RUNNING, PAYING THE COSTS OF $1890.50 TO GET THE CAR RUNNING AGAIN; AGAIN OUT OF MY OWN POCKET. I CAN SUPPLY YOUR OFFICE WITH A COPY OF THE SERVICE MANAGER'S ESTIMATE & ANALOGY OF WHAT HAPPENED TO CAUSE DAMAGES. I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO GET VEHICLE COMPLETELY RESTORED & FEEL ALL DAMAGES SHOULD BE REIMBURSED DUE TO THE FAULTY TIRE. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I'M LUCKY TO BE ALIVE SINCE I COULD HARDLY CONTROL THE CAR WHEN IT HAPPENED. THANK GOD THE OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD SAW ME OR IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A MULTIPLE CAR ACCIDENT, AS MANY CARS WERE TRAVELING ALL LANES. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE LANE & HAD TO CROSS OVER THE RIGHT LANE TO EXIT. *TR
AFTER PARKING THE VEHICLE ON MY HOME DRIVE WAY, SMOKE CAME FROM UNDER HOOD,THEN THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. AFTER 911 CALL, THE FIRE FIGHTERS CAME AND PUT OUT THE FIRE. ALL OF THE PARTS UNDER THE HOOD WERE ALL MELTED, ESPECIALLY ENGINE SIDE WERE BURNT OUT SIGNIFICANTLY. THE FRONT WINDOW PANEL WAS ALSO DAMAGED. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS WHICH CAME ON, NO STRANGE SMELLS, NOTHING. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH INTO A PARKING SPACE, THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD AND JUMPED THE CURB. THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A POLE WITHOUT WARNING. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 126,500.
I'VE OWNED MY 2001 SOLARA SINCE I PURCHASED IT NEW IN APRIL 2001. I HAVEN'T HAD ANY REAL PROBLEMS WITH IT (I'VE HAD ALL OF THE NORMAL MAINTENANCE, WEAR & TEAR STUFF DONE), UNTIL ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO. MY WIFE & I WERE OUT OF TOWN AND WERE TURNING AROUND AT A STRIP MALL SHOPPING CENTER WHEN THE STEERING LOCKED UP. IT HAD JUST RAINED EXTREMELY HEAVILY AND THERE WAS A LOT OF SURFACE WATER ON THE ROAD. I JUST ASSUMED THAT PERHAPS THE POWER STEERING DRIVE BELT GOT WET AND WAS SLIPPING (ALTHOUGH I DIDN'T HEAR ANY SQUEALING). AFTER THAT THE STEERING SEEMED OK. THEN ABOUT A YEAR AGO, I STARTED NOTICING THE PROBLEM MORE REGULARLY, MOSTLY WHILE "UN-PARKING" THE CAR FROM A PARALLEL PARKING SPOT. I CAN BACK UP OK, BUT WHEN I STEER THE CAR TO BEGIN DRIVING, THE STEERING LOCKS UP & I HAVE TO STOP, BACK UP AGAIN, & "STEER OUT OF IT." ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS KIND OF STEERING PROBLEM? I HAVE 125,000 MILES ON THE CAR. I KNOW THAT TOYOTA HAS DONE A RECENT RECALL ON CRACKED STEERING BOXES ON CERTAIN MODELS. I HAD A '76 CELICA ONE TIME THAT DEVELOPED A CRACK IN THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION CASTING AT ABOUT 80 OR 90,000 MILES. *TR
MY 2001 CAMRY 4 CYLINDER STARTED HAVING WHITE SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE TAIL PIPE AFTER AROUND 100,000 MILES. IT HAPPENS EVERY MORNING WHEN I START THE ENGINE. I HAD IT CHECKED BY A MECHANIC AND HE SAID TOYOTAS HAVE THAT PROBLEM BECAUSE OF SEATING PROBLEM AND IT WOULD COST ME AROUND $2000.00 TO FIX. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE OPENING THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE PLASTIC HANDLE ON THE DOOR WOULD CRACK ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. CURRENTLY, THE DOOR WILL NOT OPEN AT ALL. THE CONTACT MUST GO TO THE PASSENGER SIDE AND OPEN THE DOOR FROM INSIDE TO ENTER THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD ORDER ANOTHER HANDLE FOR HIM AND REPLACE IT AT THE COST OF $180. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 38,300 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 38,000.
TRIP BACK FROM NEW ORLEANS THE CAR JUST STOPPED RUNNING. REPAIRMAN SAID IT WAS A BLOWN HEAD GASKET. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY AT THE REPAIR SHOP. THE COST IS BETWEEN 2,000 AND 2,500 DOLLARS. *TR
ON 4/1/08, IN THE MORNING, ON WET ROADS, I WAS DRIVING MY '01 TOYOTA SOLARA AND NEEDED TO STOP SHORT IN TRAFFIC. I HAD BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKES, THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES NEVER KICKED IN, NOR DID THE CAR SLOW DOWN. I HAD REAR ENDED A TOYOTA SEQUOIA. I HAD MENTIONED TO THE OTHER DRIVER THAT THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP. I HAD ALSO TOLD THE POLICE OFFICER THE SAME. MY TOYOTA SOLARA WAS TOTALED. CONVINCED THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES, I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A MECHANIC TO HAVE THE BRAKES CHECKED OUT, AND NOTHING WAS WRONG. ONLY AFTER HEARING THE RECENT WOES OF OTHER TOYOTAS' WITH THE STICKING ACCELERATOR, DID IT FINALLY CLICK AND MAKE SENSE. THIS IS WHY THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES DID NOT ENGAGE AND WHY THE CAR DID NOT SLOW DOWN. THE REASON I AM REPORTING THIS NOW IS BECAUSE I BELIEVE TOYOTA VEHICLES HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM FOR LONGER THAN THE RECALLS LISTS SUGGEST, AND I BELIEVE MORE INVESTIGATIONS SHOULD BE DONE ON THE HIGHER MILEAGE VEHICLES. *TR

THE CONTACT STRUCK ONE VEHICLE ON THE REAR DRIVER SIDE. THE CONTACTS VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 88,000. PAINT IS PEELING AND BODY METAL IS VISIBLE TO THE NAKED EYE. *CN
MY VEHICLE WAS TURNING LEFT ON A CITY STREET. ITS RIGHT REAR QUARTER PANEL WAS STRUCK BY A VEHICLE IN THE INTERSECTION. THAT IMPACT SPUN THE VEHICLE AROUND WHERE IT WAS ONCE AGAIN INVOLVED IN A COLLISION. SO, BY THE TIME IT WAS OVER, THE PASSENGER-SIDE QUARTER PANEL, PASSENGER-SIDE DOOR, AND THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE WERE SEVERELY DAMAGED. THE AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. THE FRONT-SEAT PASSENGER AND DRIVER SUSTAINED SEVERE INJURIES.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE SITTING IDLE WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE AIR BAG MODULE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AND THERE WAS ALSO AN ELECTRICAL FAILURE IN THE FRONT, DRIVERS SIDE SEAT BELT IN WHICH IT WOULD NOT RETRACT. THE DEALER ADVISED IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, THE SEAT BELT WOULD NOT RESTRAIN THE DRIVER AS DESIGNED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 108,000. THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A PHONE CALL FROM A REPRESENTATIVES FROM TOYOTA WHO INFORMED HER, THAT TOYOTA WOULD REIMBURSE HER FOR THE REPAIR OF THE SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY, BUT WOULD NOT ASSIST WITH THE REPAIR OF THE AIR BAG. CONTROL ARM ON PASSENGER SIDE REAR THREADS STRIPPED. CONTROL ARM CAME APART, CAUSING TIRE TO ALMOST FALL OFF OF VEHICLE. *TR
WE PURCHASED A USED (ABOUT 43,000 MILES) 2001 TOYOTA CAMRY LE ) AT THE END OF JUNE 2006. EVERY THING WORKS FINE SINCE WE PURCHASED IT. THE PREVIOUS OWNER IS A FRIEND OF MINE, WHO ALWAYS DID REGULAR MAINTENANCE AND OIL CHANGES IN TOYOTA DEALER AND LEFT ALL MAINTENANCE RECORDS TO ME. AFTER WE GOT THE CAR, WE HAD CHANGED BRAND NEW TIRES, NEW BRAKES, REPLACED DRIVER SIDE AUTO WINDOW MOTOR, AND ALSO DONE OIL CHANGES REGULARLY. ON JUNE 11, 2007, I TOOK MY CAMRY TO MECHANIC TO DO OIL AND BRAKE CHANGES. NO PROBLEM WAS REPORTED. THE TOTAL MILEAGE ON THAT CAR WAS LESS THAN 49,600 MILES AT THAT TIME. ON FRIDAY, JULY 20, 2007, AT 11:00 AM, MY WIFE DROVE KIDS FROM HOME TO LOCAL LIBRARY FOR ABOUT 7 MINUTES. AFTER PARKING IN THE LIBRARY PARKING LOT, WALKING INTO LIBRARY, A FEW MINUTES LATER, THE LIBRARIAN ANNOUNCED AND ASKED THE OWNER OF CAMRY WITH THE SPECIFIC PLATE NUMBER TO GO TO FRONT LOBBY. HOWEVER, THE LIBRARIAN DID NOT STATE THE REASON. MY WIFE THOUGHT SHE PARKED WELL WITHOUT ANY VIOLATION, SO SHE DID NOT PAY TOO MUCH ATTENTION TO THE FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT. AFTER LIBRARIAN'S SECOND ANNOUNCEMENT, MY WIFE FELT THAT THE PLATE NUMBER SOUNDED FAMILIAR, SO SHE WENT TO FRONT LOBBY TO CHECK OUT WHAT'S HAPPENING. WHEN MY WIFE GOT OUT TO THE PARKING LOT, SHE SAW POLICE CAR AND FIRE TRUCK, AND HER CAR WAS BURNED OUT. ALL OF THE PARTS INSIDE THE ENGINE COVER WERE ALL MELTED. THE FIRE ALSO DAMAGED THE RIGHT FRONT PANEL OF THE CAR PARKED NEXT TO MY CAMRY. I ASKED MY MECHANIC TO TOW MY CAR TO HIS REPAIR SHOP AND CHECKED MY CAR. HE TOLD ME THAT THIS CAR IS NOT REPAIRABLE AND IS TOTALED. I HAD CONTACTED TOYOTA CORPORATE OFFICE CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE CENTER REGARDING MY CAMRY ENGINE FIRE SINCE JULY 23, 2007. THE CASE MANAGER - SANDRA TOLD ME THAT SHE WOULD SEND MY CASE TO TOYOTA'S CLAIM DEPARTMENT AND SOMEONE WILL CONTACT ME TO INVESTIGATE MY CAR. HOWEVER, IT HAD BEEN TWO WEEKS SINCE MY FIRST CONTACT WITH TOYOTA, I HAD NOT RECEIVED PHONE CALL FROM TOYOTA CLAIM DEPARTMENT. *TR

I HAVE NOW SPENT OVER TWICE THE AMOUNT AND WENT TO MICHELIN TIRES OUT OF FRUSTRATION WITH THE TIRES AND THE GOOD GUYS. I CALLED YOUR CORPORATE OFFICE EARLY ON AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH THE TIRES, YET THREE OTHER TIRE CENTER HAVE CONFIRMED THEY WERE DEFECTIVE. *TR

AN INSPECTION BY THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP REVEALED NO FRONT END ALIGNMENT PROBLEM (THE FRONT END HAD BEEN ALIGNED LESS THAN 10,000 MILES EARLIER), AND A CHECK BY THE TIRE COMPANY DID NOT REVEAL ANY UNEVEN WEAR ON THE TIRES. THE PROBLEM WOULD MANIFEST ITSELF INTERMITTENTLY, AND ONLY AFTER TRAVELING MORE THAN 5 MILES ON THE FREEWAY AT SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH. I TOOK THE CAR TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP LAST MONTH AND, AFTER A TEST DRIVE WITH THE MECHANIC, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE BRAKES WERE ENGAGING WHEN THEY HEATED UP AFTER DRIVING MORE THAN 5 MILES. I WAS TOLD THE VSV NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, IT WAS ON A RECALL LIST AND I SHOULD TAKE IT TO A TOYOTA DEALER. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO KING TOYOTA IN DEERFIELD BEACH, FL AND PAID AN $80.88 DIAGNOSTIC FEE. I WAS TOLD THAT THE CAR NEEDED VSV AND A CHARCOAL CANISTER. I WAS ALSO TOLD THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THESE PARTS AND THE REPAIR COST WOULD BE $628. THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT IS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS NOT TO REPLACE THESE PARTS BECAUSE IF I AM REAR-ENDED THE GAS TANK WILL EXPLODE, SIMILAR TO THE RECALL FOR THE FORD PINTO. IF THIS IS THE CASE, WHY HAVE THESE PARTS NOT BEEN RECALLED? PLEASE ADVISE ME ON ANY MENDING ACTION ON THIS PROBLEM AND ANY RECOURSE I MIGHT HAVE. *NM
RECENTLY WE WERE HIT BY A PICKUP TRUCK WHILE STOPPED ON THE INTERSTATE. WE WERE STOPPED DUE TO ANOTHER ACCIDENT AHEAD. BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEATS BROKE AT THE TILT POINT AND COLLAPSED BACKWARD ONTO THE REAR SEAT, NARROWLY MISSING OUR 31 MONTH OLD CHILD AND HIS CAR SEAT. THE DRIVER SEAT DID MAKE CONTACT WITH THE CAR SEAT, BUT WAS DEFLECTED DUE TO THE STRENGTH OF THE CAR SEAT. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT THE SEATS ARE DESIGNED TO COLLAPSE. WHY DID OUR SEATS FAIL? *JB
ON 5/10/2006 WHILE DRIVING MY 2001 CAMRY SOLARA ON A RURAL ROAD I COULDN'T SLOW THE CAR DOWN, BRAKING DIDN'T HELP. I KEPT BEARING TO THE RIGHT OFF THE ROAD BECAUSE I WAS HAVING A HARD TIME CONTROLLING THE CAR, CAR WANTED TO GO TOWARDS THE CARS TRAVELING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. FINALLY, I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR OFF THE ROAD, CAR SPUN OUT IN GRAVEL THAT WAS ALONG THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. CAR DID AT LEAST TWO FULL CIRCLES THAN POPPED SOME 10 FEET WHERE CAR HIT TELEPHONE POLE ON ITS DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. THIS WAS A GREAT IMPACT ON MY SHOULDERS. AT THE TIME ALL I KNEW WAS THAT THE CAR WOULDN'T SLOWDOWN EVEN WHEN BRAKING. I KNOW NOW AND HAVE FOR SOME YEARS THAT THE EXCELERATOR STUCK ON THIS VEHICLE. SURE ENOUGH NOT UNTIL A COUPLE YEARS AFTER MY ACCIDENT TOYOTA CAME OUT WITH THERE EXCELERATOR PROBLEMS. SO I JUST THOUGHT IT SHOULD BE KNOWN THAT TOYOTA HAD THESE PROBLEMS ON THERE 2001 CAMRY'S ALSO BECAUSE IT HAPPENED TO ME. I SAVED SOME DOCUMENTION FROM THIS ACCIDENT BUT I REALIZE IT'S BEEN SOME YEARS AGO.
FRONT PASSENGER SEAT WOULD TILT WHEN TURNING CORNERS; BOLT SECURING SEAT WAS "BROKEN OFF" ALLOWING AN UNSECURED SEAT TO MOVE. SEAT HAD TO BE REMOVED TO REPLACE BROKEN BOLT, THUS 1 HR SERVICE CHARGE AND 3.50 CHARGE FOR BOLTS. I HAD TOYOTA GARAGE REPLACE BOTH REAR BOLTS TO ASSURE SAFETY OF MY PASSENGERS. *JB
2001 TOYOTA CAMRY WAS TOWED ON 3/27/06 AS A RESULT OF OIL LEAK FROM ENGINE. ALL DATA WAS SENT TO TOYOTA WHO SENT IT TO AN INDEPENDENT EVALUATOR WHO DENIED CLAIM.. I WOULD LIKE TO RESUBMIT THE CLAIM AND DOCUMENTS TO YOUR OFFICE FOR A REEVALUATION. *TR
2001-TOYOTA CAMRY: THERE IS A BURNING ODOR WHEN CAR IS OPERATING. THE IGNITION DOES NOT ALWAYS START THE CAR UPON INSERTING AND TURNING THE KEY. MANY TIMES WHEN TURNING THE KEY, THERE IS A HIGH SCREECHING LOUD NOISE AND THE CAR REMAINS NON-OPERATIONAL FOR A FEW MINUTES WHICH OCCURS EVERYDAY. AFTER THE CAR IS RUNNING FOR APPROXIMATELY 20-MINUTES DOWN THE ROAD, THERE IS A BURNING SMELL SIMILAR TO BURNING RUBBER. THE INSIDE OF THE CAR NEAR THE FLOOR ON DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE WILL BECOME WARM. IT APPEARS HEAT IS GENERATED FROM THE ENGINE INTO THE INSIDE OF THE CAR THUS RESULTING IN BURNING ODOR. UPON ACCELERATION, THE CAR HAS A JERKY, PROPELLING MOTION FORWARD. STEERING COLUMN HAS SOME STIFFNESS AND AT OTHER TIMES IT HAS LOT OF PLAY WITH TURNS. THE POWER/ELECTRIC WINDOWS, CLOCK, AND CD/RADIO PLAYER DO NOT WORK PROPERLY. THESE DEFECTS/FAULTS OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 6 MONTHS AFTER USED VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. AS VEHICLE WAS SOLD AS IS, I DID NOT RETURN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS. CAR WAS TAKEN TO LOCAL MECHANIC AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG. WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE DAILY IGNITION/START PROBLEM, OTHER PROBLEMS DESCRIBED ABOVE, HAPPEN APPROXIMATELY FIVE TIMES A MONTH. REGULAR SCHEDULED SERVICE MAINTENANCE ARE PERFORMED HOWEVER ALL ABOVE PROBLEMS CONTINUE TO CONCERN ME. *TR
I OWN A 2001 TOYOTA CAMRY LE. I HAVE OWNED THE CAR FOR APPROX 11 MONTHS. IN AUGUST MY SON WHILE LEAVING THE BEACH CLAIMED THE ABS BREAKS LOCKED UP CAUSING HIM TO SLIDE INTO A POLE IN THE PARKING LOT. NEITHER AIR BAG WAS DEPLOYED BUT THERE WAS OVER 6000 DAMAGE. THE MECHANIC SAID IT WAS A LOW IMPACT HIT ... THE CAR WAS REPAIRED AND BREAKS CHECKED AND SAID TO BE WORKING. NOW JUST 7 MONTHS FROM THAT ACCIDENT I WAS DRIVING IN A SNOW STORM AND DESPITE MY BEST DRIVING I TOO EXPERIENCED THE ABS BREAKS ACTUALLY LOCKING ... ON A HILL IN THE SNOW CAUSING MY CAR TO FISH TAIL AND ALL THE WHILE GAINING SPEED LEAVING ME WITH NO WAY TO SLOW DOWN MY PASSENGER WATCH THE SPEEDOMETER GO FROM 15... TO 30... TO 35 WHICH IS WHEN HE CLOSED HIS EYES AS I MADE ONE LAST ATTEMPT TO STEER THE CAR STRAIGHT WE WENT OFF THE ROAD WIPING OUT 2 OR 3 SMALL TREES, A METAL POLE LUCKILY THERE WAS A RATHER LARGE ROCK UNDER THE SNOW THAT GOT STUCK UNDER THE TAIL END OF THE CAR LEAVING THE CAR "NOSE" END INTO THE GROUND. NEITHER AIR BAG DEPLOYED ONCE AGAIN. THE DRIVERS SIDE LIGHT WAS COMPLETELY TORN OUT, THE TIRES CAME PARTIALLY OFF THE RIM AND THE FRAME IS NOW TWISTED THE IMPACT WAS DEFIANTLY OVER 30 MPH WITH NO AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. THE ANTI- LOCK BAKES ... LOCKED AND HAD THEY NOT I WOULD NOT HAVE FISHTAILED ... THIS IS THE SECOND ACCIDENT MY CAR HAS HAD DUE TO THE BREAK SYSTEM. THIS ONE TOTALED MY CAR.
