THE CAR SUDDENLY BROKE DOWN ON A MAJOR INTERSTATE OUT OF WASHINGTON, DC, ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK. WITHOUT WARNING (E.G., NO WARNING LIGHTS OR PREVIOUS PROBLEMS), IT STARTED TO JERK SPORADICALLY AND HESITATED WHEN I DEPRESSED THE GAS PEDAL. AS I APPROACHED MY EXIT TO I-495 NORTH, THE CAR GOT WORSE IT STARTED TO MAKE A CLICKING-AND-CLACKING NOISE AND SEEMED THAT IT WOULD DIE AT ANYTIME. I TOOK THE FIRST EXIT OFF OF I-495 (210: INDIAN HEAD HIGHWAY, SOUTH) BECAUSE I KNEW THAT THERE WAS A SHELL GAS STATION WITH A GARAGE. AS I APPROACHED THE STATION, I HEARD A LOUD POPPING SOUND AND THE FRONT OF THE CAR STARTED TO SMOKE. I WAS TERRIFIED THAT THE CAR WOULD CATCH ON FIRE. *LA
PURCHASED 2001 TOYOTA CAMRY XLE ON 03-15-2003. I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH SQUEAKING FROM THE REAR GOING OVER BUMPS. I CALLED FOLSOM LAKE TOYOTA FOR SOME ADVISE, THE GENTLEMAN SAID USE A SPRAY LUBRICANT ON ALL THE JOINTS AND THIS SHOULD CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THIS DID NOT WORK. ON OCTOBER 16, 2003 I WENT TO FOLSOM LAKE TOYOTA AND SPOKE WITH A SERVICE REP REGARDING THIS PROBLEM. HE BROUGHT UP THE CAR ON HIS SYSTEM, WHICH IT WAS DISCLOSED TO ME THE VEHICLE WHEN TRADED TO THEM HAD REAR SUSPENSION SQUEAKING, I ALSO SAW THIS ON HIS COMPUTER FOR MYSELF. I WENT IN ON SATURDAY OCT 18, 2003 FOR MY APPOINTMENT. AFTER 2 1/2 HOURS THE ASSISTANT SERVICE MANAGER [XXX] DISCLOSED TO ME THE VEHICLE HAD SEVERE SUSPENSION PROBLEMS. HE WOULD NOT PUT THIS ON A WORK ORDER FOR ME TO SHOW WHAT THE PROBLEMS WHERE. HE DID INDICATE HE WOULD SPEAK WITH THE MANAGERS OF THE SALES DEPARTMENT ON MONDAY OCTOBER 20, 2003. I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM HIM. I CALLED THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND WAS TOLD HE WOULD BE LEFT A MESSAGE. THIS VEHICLE WAS SOLD TO ME AS A CERTIFIED USED VEHICLE, WHICH DOESN'T SEEM TO MEAN A [XXX] THING. I WOULD LIKE THIS TO BE INVESTIGATED DUE TO THE FACT THE CAR HAD THIS PROBLEM WHEN THEY TOOK IT IN AND THEY PUT A TEMPORARY BANDAGE ON IT UNTIL THEY COULD PAWN IT OFF. I WOULD NOT HAVE BOUGHT THIS CAR IF IT HAD BEEN DISCLOSED TO ME THAT THE SUSPENSION HAD A PROBLEM. I WANT TO BE REIMBURSED ALL PAYMENTS MADE, MY DOWN PAYMENT AND TO HAVE TOYOTA FINANCIAL PAID OFF AS IF THIS TRANSACTION NEVER TOOK PLACE. THIS IS NOT THE QUALITY I EXPECTED OUT OF TOYOTA. I WILL BE TAKING THIS VEHICLE AND FILING A COMPLAINT WITH B.A.R. *LA INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
WHILE TRAVELING ON THE DALLAS NORTH TOLLWAY, IT BECAME DIFFICULT TO STEER THE VEHICLE. IT STARTED TO PULL TOWARDS THE LEFT AT FIRST SLIGHTLY, THEN MORE VIOLENTLY CAUSING ME TO CRASH INTO THE CONCRETE MEDIAN THAT SEPARATES THE NORTH AND SOUTHBOUND LANES OF THE HIGHWAY. I SUSTAINED ACCUTE MUSCLE AND LIGAMENT SPRAIN IN MY BACK. THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING FINE THE PREVIOUS DAY. *AK
TIRES SKIDED ON WET ROAD AND WHEN CHECKED I WAS TOLD I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE ONE OR MORE OF THE TIRES. I ROTATE MY TIRES EVERY 5,000 MILES AND HAVE HAD THEM BALANCED AT LEAST ONE TIME. THESE ARE THE ORIGINAL TIRES SHIPPED WITH THE VEHICLE. I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY WOULD FAIL IN LESS THAN 30,000 MILES.
INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEED 15 MPH, VEHICLE WILL SHUT DOWN. DEALER HAS INSPECTED VEHICLE AND, COULD NOT DUPLICATE OR CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *AK
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE SHUT OFF AND BRAKES FAILED. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK
ALL TIRES ON THE VEHICLE ARE BADLY WORN . THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER WHO STATED PROBLEM WAS DUE TO WHEEL ALIGNMENT. FIRESTONE BRIDGEPORT TIRES. PLEASE PROVIDE DETAILS.
LAST YEAR AT APPROXIMATLEY SAME MONTH & DATE, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON.I AM CONCERNED BECAUSE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE IN MAY OF 2001, IT ONLY HAS 9034 MILES AND THIS IS THE SECOND INCIDENT.*AK
MY 2001 TOYOTA CAMRY LE SKIDDED AND WENT OUT OF CONTROL IN WET WEATHER. THE TIRE HAD ONLY ABOUT 20,000 MILES IN IT AT THAT TIME. WE HAVE E BRIDGESTONE POTENZA TIRES IN THAT CAR.
CONSUMER STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AND WITHOUT WARNING POWER SEAT WOULD ROCK BACK AND FORTH OR SIDE TO SIDE. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK THE STEREO HAD A HISSING SOUND. THE CONSUMER WOULD LIKE THE VEHICLE REPLACED WITH A LATER MODEL, FULL REFUND OR A RENTAL VEHICLE UNTIL THE REPAIRS ARE COMPLETED. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT BUT WAS DENIED. *PH *NLM
CLUTCH FAILURE ON 2001 TOYOTA CAMRY CE.*MR TOYOTA WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIRS, THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED BY TOYOTA THAT THE VEHICLE WAS BEING USED A RACE CAR WHICH CAUSED THE CLUTCH TO FAIL AND THE TIRES TO WEAR OUT. *CB *JB
ON JUNE 21, 2003 @ APPROX. 1730 HRS A 1993 FORD MUSTANG TURNED INTO THE PATH OF MY WIFE'S 2001 CAMRY. THE CAMRY WAS TRAVELING APPROX. 45 MPH AND LEFT APPROX 51 FEET OF SKID MARKS PRIOR TO IMPACT WITH THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE OTHER VEHICLE. THE ENTIRE FRONT CAP OF THE CAMRY WAS DAMAGED AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. *NLM
THE GAS CAP WILL NOT STAY SECURE TIGHTLY AND WILL LOSE FUEL. *AK
THE NEWER TYPE OF HIGH INTENSITY HEADLIGHTS ARE A SAFETY HAZARD IN THAT THEY ARE SO BRIGHT THAT THEY CAUSE ONCOMING DRIVERS TO LOSE THEIR "NIGHT VISION". PLEASE WORK TO GET RID OF THE GLARE. I HAVE THOUGHT THIS FOR A LONG TIME, BUT THE RECENT PRESS COVERAGE OF THIS ISSUE PROMPTED ME TO LODGE A COMPLAINT. THANKS BILL K. *NLM
WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH THE ENGINE CAUGHT ON FIRE. THERE WAS A 3-4 INCH HOLE IN THE ENGINE WHICH LEAKED OIL AND IGNITED A FIRE. THE FIRE INVESTIGATOR REPORTED THE FIRE WAS CAUSED BY A MECHANICAL MALFUNCTION AND NOT IMPROPER CARE. *AK THERE WAS NO WARNING, THE VEHICLE JUST EXPLODED WITH A BIG BANG AND THE BRAKES HAD GONE OUT. *SCC *JB
2001 TOYOTA CAMRY ALL FOUR BRIDGESTONE POTENZA TIRES HAVE WORN DOWN AND THERE IS ONLY 25,500 MILES ON THEM. *NLM
CAM SHAFT SENSOR MALFUNCTIONED W/APPROXIMATELY 49,000 MILES. DEALER WILL NOT COVER COST OF REPAIR ALTHOUGH IT AFFECTS THE ENGINE'S PERFORMANCE. IT WAS NOT AN INTERNAL PROBLEM. *NLM
2001 TOYOTA SOLARA. CAR MAKES "CLUNKING" SOUND FROM FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AND DRIVER SIDE. USUALLY OVER BUMPS OR UNEVEN ROADS. NOISE GETS WORSE OVER TIME. ALREADY HAD STRUT MOUNTS REPLACED ONCE BY TOYOTA. THE STRUT MOUNTS APPEAR TO BE THE CAUSE OF THE NOISE. THIS NOISE IS RECOGNIZED BY TOYOTA AS SERVICE BULLETIN HOWEVER THE NOISE STILL PERSISTS. CAR SOUNDS UNSAFE. *NLM
I AM NOT GETTING THE MILES PER GALLON EXPECTED. I HAVE A 4 CYLINDER AND I AM ONLY GETTING 16-19 MILES PER GALLON IN THE CITY, AND AROUND 27-28 HIGHWAY. I GOT BETTER GAS MILEAGE WITH MY 6 CYLINDER INTRIGUE. *JB
THE REAR TIRE BLEW OUT, WHEN THE REAR TIRE WAS TO BE CHANGED, IT WAS DISCOVERED THE SPARE TIRE WAS NOT COMPATIBLE FOR THE VEHICLE.*JB
THE BRAKES ON TOYOTA CAMRY LE MODELS ARE NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. IN EACH OF THREE DIFFERENT CAMRY CARS THAT I HAVE OWNED (1996,2000, AND 2001) THE BRAKES MAKE A RUMBLING SOUND WHEN SLOWING DOWN FROM A SPEED OVER 50 MILES AN HOUR. FURTHERMORE, ON MY 2001 CAMRY THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON DURING USE ON ICY ROADS, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO SAID THAT THIS HAPPENS AND THAT HE HAD FIVE OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE VERY SAME THING THAT DAY. HE ATTRIBUTED THIS TO ONE OF THE SENSORS "STICKING", AND THAT ALL I HAD TO DO IS TURN THE CAR OFF AND LET IT "COOL " DOWN AND THE LIGHT WOULD GO OFF. THIS IS TRUE, THIS DID HAPPEN, BUT WHAT GOOD ARE ABS BRAKES IF THEY MALFUNCTION ON THE VERY ICY ROADS THAT THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO PROTECT YOU FROM? IT SEEMS TO ME THAT IF A SENSOR IS "STICKING" THE SENSOR SHOULD BE REPLACED AND THAT THE CAR SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BE ALLOWED TO "COOL DOWN" ESPECIALLY SINCE THIS HAPPENED IN THE MIDDLE OF A PARKWAY ON ICY ROAD CONDITIONS. ALSO, DURING THE TIME THE ABS LIGHT WAS ON ONE OF THE WHEELS BRAKES LOCKED PREVENTING THE WHEEL FROM SPINNING FURTHER CAUSING A MORE DANGEROUS SITUATION.
SERVICE BRAKES. THE CONSUMER STATED TOYOTA DID NOT FIX THE BRAKES TO HIS SATISFACTION. *JB
VEHICLE ACCELERATED WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED. *MR THE CONSUMER STATED A VENT PIPE HAD FALLEN ACROSS THE BRAKE AND AT THE SAME TIME WAS PRESSING DOWN ON THE GAS PEDAL. *JB
SEAT BELTS ON THE TOYOTA SOLARA CONV DOES NOT RETRACT AND ALSO GET TWISTED AND CAN NOT BE USED. THEY HAVE BEEN FIXED BY DEALER BUT THE PROBLEM HAS COME BACK.
CAR STEERING DRIFTS LEFT, 8 TRIPS TO THE DEALER AND IT CANNOT BE FIXED (CASTER IS NOT ADJUSTABLE). WEB SEARCHES REVEAL THAT THIS HAS BEEN A PERVASIVE PROBLEM FOR YEARS WITH THE MANUFACTURER OFFERING NO RESOLUTION. *LA
THE TIRES EXPERIENCED PREMATURE WEAR. *JB
I HAVE A SAFETY CONCERN WITH MY 2001 TOYOTA CAMRY PURCHASED THROUGH IRA TOYOTA IN DANVERS MASS. THE TIRES PULLED TO RHE LEFT AND SQUEALED GOING AROUND CORNERS. I KEPT CHECKING TIRE PRESSURE TO SEE IF THAT WAS THE CAUSE, NO. IN OCTOBER I TOOK THE CAR IN TO HAVE THE TIRES ROTATED AT DUBE TOYOTA IN DOVER, NH. THE CAR HAD A LITTLE OVER 19,000 MILES ON IT. I WAS ASKED INTO THE SERVICE AREA TO LOOK AT THE TIRES BECAUSE THEY WERE VERY WORN. THE FRONT TIRES WERE VERY WORN ON BOTH THE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE EDGES, THE CORDING WAS VISIBLE. THE REAR TIRES WERE WORN EVENLY. STARTED THE COMPLAINT PROCESS WITH IRA TOYOTA. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT BILL DUBE TALKED WITH THE DISTRICT REPRESENTATIVE ABOUT FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE IN REPLACING THE TIRES. I REPLACED THE FRONT TIRES IMMEDIATELY. HAD ALIGNMENT CHECKED. CALLED TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE AND SPOKE WITH CHRISTINA WOODS WHO INITIATED MY CLAIM/COMPLAINT I CALLED AGAIN AFTER A COUPLE OF WEEKS AND SPOKE TO ANOTHER PERSON, WAS TOLD TO SEND IN ALL MY WORK ORDERS/PAID RECEIPTS AND THEY WOULD REIMBURSE US FOR FOUR NEW TIRES AND THE WHEEL ALIGNMENT. I HAD THE REAR TIRES REPLACED. DISTRICT REPRESENTATIVE SAID HE COULD REIMBURSE US FOR TWO TIRES. WHEN HE WAS INFORMED THAT TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE SAID THEY WOULD PAY FOR ALL FOUR HE APPARENTLY BECAME LIVID, CALLED TOYOTA TO COMPLAIN BECAUSE THEY HAD USURPED HIS AUTHORITY. NEITHER PARTY WILL NOW REIMBURSE US FOR ANY TIRES. MY CONCERN AT THIS TIME IS THE SAFETY ISSUE. DURING MANY CONVERSATIONS WITH TOYOTA AND THE DEALER THEY TOLD ME THAT THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH CAMRYS. THE TIRES ARE MANUFACTURED WITH VERY SOFT SIDEWALLS (REASON FOR THE SQUEALING) TO IMPROVE RIDE. THE SIDEWALLS COLLAPSE ON CORNERS CAUSING EXCESSIVE WEAR, ESPECIALLY ON THE EDGES. IF THEY ARE NOW USING INFERIOR TIRES WHERE ELSE HAVE THEY CUT CORNERS OR USED INFERIOR MATERIAL THAT MIGHT WELL AFFECT THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE. TRYING TO WARN EVERYONE I CAN ABOUT THE POTENTIAL SAFETY PROBLEMS.
BRAKE FLUID FAILED CAUSING MASTER CYLINDER SEALS TO SWELL. IT COULD NOT HAVE BEEN CONTAMINATED SINCE NO ONE EVER TOUCHED THE BRAKING SYSTEM SINCE CAR WAS NEW. MR
CONSUMER STATES AFTER PARKING VEHICLE, SMOKE CAME FROM UNDER HOOD,THEN THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. NLM *YH
WHILE TRAVELING ABOUT 40MPH ON THE HIGHWAY ANOTHER VEHICLE MADE A SUDDEN STOP, AFTER CUTTING IN FRONT OF HIM. HE APPLIED THE BRAKES AND REARENDED THE VEHICLE. UPON IMPACT, THE DUAL AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY AT ALL. THE DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. TS
CONSUMER STATES WHILE DRIVING HAD A FRONT END COLLISION AND AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY, CAUSING INJURIES. TS
WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONT END COLLISION. AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. SEAT BELT DID NOT ENGAGE. I HAD REPORTED THE SEATBELT PROBLEM TO THE TOYOTA DEALER PREVIOUSLY. PASSENGER SEATBELT WAS REPLACED, BUT DEALER ASSURED ME THAT THE DRIVER SEATBELT WAS FINE. TOYOTA WOULD NOT REPLACE AIRBAG AFTER ACCIDENT.
CAR ACCIDENT. BROADSIDED ANOTHER VEHICLE - $12000 IN FRONT END DAMAGE - NOT AIRBAG OR SEATBELT WORKED. WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL WITH SEVERAL INJURIES. CAR WAS FIXED, BUT AIRBAG NOT REPLACED. *AK
TIRES TOTALLY CAME APART WHERE SIDEWALL AND TREAD MEET WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED. THESE TIRES SEEMED DEFECTIVE WHEN NEW AND WERE REPORTED TO MANUFACTURER AND EXAMINED BY DEALER. BOTH SAID THEY WERE OK, BUT OBVIOUSLY THEY WERE WRONG! CAR SUSTAINED DAMAGE TO PASSENGER DOOR, BUT FORTUNATELY NO ONE WAS INJURED.*AK
I WAS IN AN ACCIDENT AND MY CAR SURGED FOWARD. I HAD WRECKED INTO A CAR BECAUSE MY CAR, A 2001 CAMRY SURGES FOWARD AT DIFFERENT TIMES.
DRIVING NORTH ON US HIGHWAY 101 IN CALIFORNIA AT SPEED LIMIT OF 65 MPH. CAR SPEED INCREASED ON A CURVE, COULD NOT STOP IT AND SUBSEQUENTLY CRASHED INTO A BARRIER IN THE MEDIAN. *TR
CLUTCH FAILURE - MANUAL CAR HAS 15000 MILEAGE, AND DEALER WILL NOT HONOR WARRANTY. *AK
LARGE AMOUNTS OF CO ARE ENTERING INSIDE THE CAR, MY WIFE HAS PASSED OUT OVER A DOZEN TIMES WHILE DRIVING THE CAR. WE USED A CO DETECTOR AND IT REGISTERD OVER 999PPM. I FEAR THAT THIS MAY BE A PROBLEM THAT GOES UNDETECTED. MY WIFE HAD AN EEG, EKG AND AN ELECTRO CARDIOGRAM PERFORMED, ALL TESTS CAME BACK NORMAL. WE FOUND IT INTERESTING THAT SHE WOULD ONLY PASS OUT WHILE DRIVING THE CAMRY AND THIS IS WHAT PUSHED US TO TEST THE CO LEVELS. I THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE AND HOPE THAT THIS MAY HELP OTHERS THAT MIGHT BE EXPERIENCING THE SAME SYMPTOMS WITH THIS CAR OR OTHER CARS. NO SAFETY DEFECTS MENTIONED. *AK
ON THURSDAY, MAY 9TH, 2002 I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT IN THE PARKING LOT OF THE JEWEL STORE AT 40TH STREET AND HARLEM AVE. IN STICKNEY, IL. MY SPEED AT THAT TIME WAS 1 OR 2 MPH. ABOUT 3 OR 4 FEET FROM WHERE I WAS TO MAKE A COMPLETE STOP - THE CAR SUDDENLY MADE A LOUD "REVVING" NOISE AND LURCHED FORWARD - UP OVER A CURB, UP A GRASSY EMBANKMENT, KNOCKED DOWN TWO PINE TREES AND SIDESWIPED A 6' WOODEN FENCE BEFORE COMING TO A STOP. MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE AS ALL THIS WAS HAPPENING, BUT THE CAR WOULDN'T STOP UNTIL STOPPED BY THE FENCE.*AK
VEHICLE STALLED AT 60 MPH. DEALER COULD NOT FIND A CAUSE.*AK THE A/C AND THE FUN SELECTOR MALFUNCTIONED, BUT THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO FIX IT. THE VEHICLE STARTS AND STALLS IMMEDIATELY. THE DEALER INSTALLED A NEW CIRCUIT OPENING REALY AND THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED. *YH
IN AN ACCIDENT WHERE THIS VEHICLE REAR-ENDED AN EXPLORER AT ABOUT 30 MPH, NEITHER AIRBAG DEPLOYED. CAMRY HAS EXTENSIVE FRONT-END DAMAGE WITH ALL FRONT-END SYSTEMS PUSHED BACK INTO ENGINE AND WHEELS. POLICE AT SCENE WONDERED WHY THERE WAS NO AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT, AND TOWING AND FIRE (MEDICAL) PERSONNEL USED EXTREME CAUTION UNTIL SURE THE AIRBAG SYSTEM WAS IN FACT DISARMED BY REMOVAL OF BATTERY. *AK
WHILE TURNING INTO A PARKING SPACE BETWEEN TWO VEHICLES, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SURGED FORWARD, JUMPED A CURVE, AND HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT WAS FACING THE CONSUMERS VEHICLE. *AK *SC
WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS ANOTHER VEHICLE TRAVELING ABOUT SAME SPEED HIT CONSUMER'S VEHICLE ON DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT DOOR. UPON IMPACT, NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK

CAR MAKES LOUND RATTLING NOSEY WHEN STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. THE WHOLE CAR SHAKES. THE ALSO TAKE A WHILE BEFORE PUTTING OFF . CAR DEALER WON'T FIX OR LOOK AT THE PROBLEM.
CONSUMER HAD PARKED VEHICLE ON AN UP HILL WITH EMERGENCY PARKING BRAKE APPLIED. *AK THE EMERGENCY HAND BRAKE WAS FULLY EXTENDED AND WAS IN LOCK POSITION. AFTER THE DRIVER GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE, THE CAR STARTED TO ROLL DOWN THE HILL HITTING A MAILBOX. VEHICLE DOOR DAMAGED. DEALERSHIP ADJUSTED CABLE TO CORRECT CONCERN, BUT CONSUMER IS LOOKING FOR REIMBURSEMENT FOR DAMAGE TO DRIVER'S DOOR. *TT
ON JANUARY 4, 2002, I WAS INVOLVED IN AN AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT WHILE DRIVING MY 2001 CAMRY. A CAR IN FRONT OF ME (DODGE STRATUS) WAS STOPPED WAITING TO TURN LEFT. I WAS BEHIND THE CAR IN A STOPPED POSITION. ANOTHER CAR (1999 CADILLAC DEVILLE) TRAVELING AT ABOUT 40 MPH HIT ME FROM BEHIND FORCING MY CAR INTO THE REAR OF THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME RECEIVED DAMAGE TO TRUNK AND BUMPER WITH ENOUGH FORCE/DAMAGE TO CAUSE THE TRUNK TO NOT SHUT WITHOUT REPAIR. MY QUESTION, CONCERN IS THIS: MY AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY (NEITHER DRIVER OR PASSENGER) AND ACCORDING TO MY OWNER'S MANUAL THEY SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. ALSO, THE DRIVERS SEAT WAS FORCED INTO APPROXIMATELY A 45 DEGREE RECLINING POSITION DURING THE IMPACT AND IS CURRENTLY LOCKED INTO THAT POSITION. MY CAR HAD A POWER DRIVER'S SEAT AND SHOULD NOT HAVE COLLAPSED. I AM NOT SURE AT WHAT POINT THE SEAT COLLAPSED BUT THE IMPACT MUST HAVE BEEN SIGNIFICANT ENOUGH TO THROW ME FORWARD AND THEN BACK HARD ENOUGH TO CAUSE THE SEAT TO FAIL. AS A RESULT I HAVE SUFFERED SOME BACK AND NECK INJURY AS A RESULT OF THIS ACCIDENT. THE MANUFACTURER INDICATED THAT THE SEATS WERE DESIGNED TO DO THIS BUT I CANNOT FIND ANYTHING IN THE MANUAL, ON THEIR SITE OR ON THE WWW TO THIS EFFECT. THE IMPACT WAS ENOUGH THAT A BIG MAC IN MY RIGHT HAND WAS THROWN AGAINST THE ODOMETER, DOWN THE LEFT SIDE OF THE CAR AND INTO THE BACK SEAT ON THE WINDOWS. A 32 OUNCE COKE WAS SPLATTERED THROUGHOUT THE CAR INTO THE DASH ELECTRONICS (CD PLAYER, TAPE DECK, ETC.) AND A CLOSED ARM REST. THE IMPACT SEEMS SIGNIFICANT ENOUGH TO WARRANT AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT AND THE FACT THAT THE SEAT BACK DID NOT PROVIDE BACK SUPPORT IS OF GREAT CONCERN TO ME. AT A MINIMUM, IF THE SEATS ARE DESIGNED TO GO BACK LIKE THEY DID IN THIS SITUATION, THE CONSUMER SHOULD BE AWARE.*AK
