GENERAL, HP 400, P205/65R15, ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT ON A 2001, TOYOTA, CAMRY WITH 7000 MILES. PASSENGER FRONT TIRE HAD A TREAD SEPARATION AT 25-30 MPH, NO INJURIES.*AK DOT NUMBER ACUR3HU3400. *JB
ON DECEMBER 3RD 2001, I WAS HIT FROM BEHIND BY A CROWN VICTORIA DOING APPROXIMATELY 35-40 MPH AS THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME HAD STOPPED TO TURN AND THE DRIVER WHO HIT ME HAD FALLEN ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL. THE DAMAGE TO THE CAR WAS VERY MINIMAL, THE BUMPER AND TRUNK HAD TO BE REPLACED. ON IMPACT OF BEING HIT THE RECLINING PART OF MY SEAT BROKE AND EVEN THOUGH I WAS WEARING MY SEAT BELT IT THREW ME INTO MY 3 YEAR OLD SON'S CAR SEAT THAT WAS POSITIONED DIRECTLY BEHIND ME (THANKFULLY HE WAS NOT IN THE CAR AT THE TIME). MY INSURANCE COMPANY (AS WELL AS MYSELF AND MY HUSBAND) COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHY THE SEAT WOULD BREAK SO EASILY SO WE ASKED FOR TOYOTA TO LOOK AND SEE WHAT HAPPENED AND THEY SAID THAT BOTH STEEL RODS ON THE SEAT HAD BROKEN BUT COULD NOT TELL US WHY THEY BROKE, THEY HAVE SINCE REPLACED THE SEAT AND NOW THE NEW SEAT HAS A DEFECT ALSO. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT KIND OF DEFECT WOULD CAUSE 2 STEEL RODS TO SNAP WITH SUCH LITTLE DAMAGE DONE TO THE CAR AND WHY AM I HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE NEW SEAT? AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT I WAS 28 WEEKS PREGNANT AND I THANK GOD THAT THE BABY WAS OKAY, HOWEVER I AM NOW SUFFERING NECK ,SHOULDER AND ARM PAIN AND I AM TERRIFIED TO PUT MY CHILDREN IN THE BACK SEAT OF MY CAR, I FEEL THAT IT IS UNSAFE AND DANGEROUS FOR ANY OF THEM TO SIT DIRECTLY BEHIND ME BUT WITH 3 CHILDREN I HAVE NO CHOICE!. I WOULD LIKE TO FIND OUT THE CAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE I CAN SEE THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS HAD THEIR SEAT BROKEN ACCORDING TO THE CONSUMER COMPLAINTS.*JB
WHILE DRIVING, AND UPON COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP VEHICLE CONTINUED TO MOVE, PUT IN PARK AND PUT EMERGENCY BRAKE ON BEFORE THE VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, DEALER FOUND EVERY THING NORMAL *AK CONSUMER STATED THAT ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS VEHICLE SURGES FORWARD AND ACCELERATES AFTER A COMPLETE STOP. *YD
VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL CRASH TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 60 TO 65 MPH, REAR-ENDED A STOPPED VEHICLE. UPON IMPACT, BOTH FRONTAL AIR BAGS FAILED TO ACTIVATE AND DEPLOY. UPON EXAMINATION OF DAMAGE FRONT BUMPER ASSEMBLY, AND AIR BAG SENSORS WERE DEMOLISHED. NO DETERMINATION HAS BEEN MADE AS TO THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION / DOCUMENTATION.*AK
I DROVE THE VEHICLE THROUGH A PUDDLE AND ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT CAUSED THE ENGINE TO HYDRO-LOCK. NOW THE VEHICLE NEEDS A NEW ENGINE AND THE WARRANTY WILL NOT COVER IT. I DON'T HAVE $4,000 TO PAY FOR IT. ANY ASSISTANCE IS GREATLY APPRECIATED. *AK
I OWN A 2001 TOYOTA CAMRY SOLARA, AND MY VEHICLE OCCASIONALLY SURGES FORWARD WHILE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. THIS CONDITION HAS OCCURRED SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW IN 2001. THE CAR FEELS AS IF SOMEONE HAS LIGHTLY "BUMPED" IT FORWARD FROM BEHIND. *AK
BRAKE FAILURE: AT 14,000 MILES THE REAR BRAKES WORE DOWN TO THE ROTORS CAUSING THE ROTORS TO FAIL. AT 19,000 MILES THE FRONT BRAKES FAILED PUTTING GOUGES INTO THE ROTORS. *CB
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED OF 60 MPH, PASSENGER'S DOOR OPENED ENOUGH THAT DOOR WAS AJAR AND LIGHT CAME ON. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. *AK *YH
THE POWDERED CHEMICAL ON THE EXTERIOR OF THE AIRBAGS CAUSED SKIN BURNS WHEN THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. THIS WAS PARTICULARLY SEVERE WITH RESPECT TO THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE, WHO BURNED, BLISTERED, AND HAS HAD RESIDUAL RASH AND MEDICAL TREATMENT FOR THE CHEMICAL BURNS TO THE CHEST AREA, TWO MONTHS AFTER THE CRASH. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THESE TYPES OF AIRBAG INJURIES ARE MORE TYPICAL OF THE FIRST-GENERATION AIRBAGS, BUT VERY ATYPICAL OF AIRBAGS THAT WOULD BE INSTALLED IN A 2001 MODEL VEHICLE.*AK
HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE ON DRIVER SIDE. FRONT AND REAR DOORS SEVERELY DAMAGED. DRIVER SIDE SIDE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY.*AK
CONSUMER CAN'T PUT VEHICLE IN REVERSE. VEHICLE HAS TO BE FORCED INTO REVERSE. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER STATED VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY, AND NOTHING WAS WRONG.*AK

IN ADDITION TO THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM, SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR LAST AUGUST, IT HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE FOR ME. AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE, THE MOLDING ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE CAR WAS DAMAGED, THE DEALER PROMISED THEY WOULD REPLACE IT, THEY NEVER DID, THEY JUST PAINTED IT, TWO DAYS LATER THE PAINT CAME OFF. THE CAR WAS ALSO DELIVERED TO ME WITHOUT THE WHEEL NUT WRENCH AND THE JACK HANDLE. I DISCOVERED IT WHEN I GOT A FLAT TIRE ON 11/21/01, WENT TO THE DEALER TO CLAIM THOSE PARTS, THE MANAGER IN CHARGE REFUSED TO COOPERATE, I CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER WHO AGREED TO GIVE ME THOSE PARTS AT NO COST TO ME. BOTH THE MANUFACTURER AND THE DEALER SHOWED NO CONCERN ABOUT THE SAFETY OF MYSELF AND MY FAMILY THAT I WAS DRIVING WITHOUT THOSE CRITICAL PARTS. WHILE TAKING CARE OF THIS, TO MAKE MATTERS WROST, I DISCOVERED THAT MY CAR, BEFORE I BOUGHT IT ON 07/23/01 WAS IN A COLLISION AND THE DEALER NEVER INFORMED ME OF IT. WHEN I CONTACTED BOTH THE MANUFACTURER AND THE DEALER, THEY REFUSED TO COOPERATE. PLEASE ADVISE ME ON HOW TO PROCEED TO HANDLE THIS MALFAISANCE FORM THIS DEALERSHIP. THANK YOU
CONSUMER STATED SHE HAD PROBLEMS KEEPING AIR IN TIRES, UNTIL FINALLY ONE DAY WHILE DRIVING THERE WAS A SLIGHT THUMPING NOISE, VEHICLE WAS TAKEN INTO DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE TIRES CHECKED AND THE TIRE PRESSURE WAS LOW, THE TIRES WERE THEN ROTATED AND BALANCED, CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THAT THE TIRES WERE VERY WORN AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. VEHICLE WOULD WANDERS ACROSS THE ROAD WHEN DRIVING 60 OR MORE MPH; VEHICLE BEEN IN THE DEALER SHOP ON TWO OCCASION, HAD TIRES REPLACE, WHEELS REALIGN AND BALANCE, PROBLEM STILL REOCCURRING; VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER FOR THE THIRD TIME; FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.
VIBRATIONS IN THE FRONT END OF 2001 TOYOTA CAMRY FROM DAY OF PURCHASE.. ABOVE 65 MPH VIBRATIONS CAN BE FELT, PRETTY SEVERELY AT TIMES, IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND ON THE FLOOR BOARD, NEAR THE FEET. DEALER HAS AGRREED THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM. DEALER HAS ATTEMPTED 5 TIMES OVER LAST 2 YEARS TO FIX THE PROBLEM: WHEEL BALANCING, NEW TIRES, NEW RIGHT FRONT AXLE, NEW WHEELS. BUT VIBRATIONS ARE ACTUALLY GETTING WORSE.*AK
HAVE HAD A STEERING WHEEL VIVRATION SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW IN 2001. HAVE HAD WHEELS BALANCED AND ALIGH IN PAST AND PURCHASED NEW TIRES AFTER 18,000 MILES TO SEE IF THAT WOULD HELP. NOTHING HAS. STILL HAS VIBRATION. CALLED TOYOTA IN 2001 NO HELP RESOLVING PROBLEM. 8JB
WHENEVER SOMEONE GETS INSIDE OF VEHICLE, MAY EXPIERENCE DIZZINESS/ NAUSIA, HEADACHE, AND CHEST PAIN. *AK CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK FOUR TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AND THE DEALER COULD NOT IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM. *YH
WHILE DRIVING 35 TO 40 MPH HAD A HEAD-ON COLLISION WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE AND AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. DID NOT CONTACT DEALER. *AK
STEERING WHEEL SHAKE AT 65MPH. DEALER HAS ATTEMPTED MULTIPLE TIMES TO REPAIR BUT HAS BEEN UNABLE TO ISOLATE PROBLEM..DRIVERS DOOR WILL NOT SHUT COMPLETELY UNLES SLAMMED. DEALER REPORTS TOYOTA WORKING ON TECHNICAL BULLETIN FOR FIX TO DEALERS. TOYOTA CORP AND DEALERSHIP AS YET REFUSES TO PROVIDE A NEW CAR. *AK
WHILE TRAVELING BETWEEN 55 AND 65 MPH A VIBRATION OCCURS IN VEHICLE UNDER NORMAL OPERATION. DEALERSHIP COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM, AND COULD NOT ASSIST CONSUMER. DURING THE WEEK OF JUNE 11TH, ACCELERATOR STUCK WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION. DEALERSHIP AGAIN STATED THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH VEHICLE. *AK CONSUMER NOTICED CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASE, IT WOULD CUT IN AND OUT AND JERK VEHICLE, DEALER ADJUSTED TERMINAL OF JUMPER SWITCH WIRE TO ENSURE GOOD CONTACT AND ADJUSTED CABLE OF THE CRUISE CONTROL A COUPLE MONTHS LATER, NOW CONSUMER EXPERIENCES PROBLEMS WITH THE ACCELERATOR STICKING WITHOUT THE CRUISE CONTROL TURNED ON, CRUISE IS STILL EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WHILE ON, RPMS ARE RUNNING HIGH WHILE AT STOPS, AND ACCELERATOR IS STICKING. WHILE APPLYING BRAKES WHEN THEY ARE HEATED UP, THEY GET HARD AND CAUSE VEHICLE TO VIBRATE. *SLC
VIBRATION IN FRONT END BEGINNING WITHIN 2 MONTHS OF PURCHASE IN JAN 2001. VIBRATION HAS GROWN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE ESPECIALLY ON ROUGH PAVEMENT OR DIRT RAODS. ALSO A POPPING NOISE FRONT FRONT RIGHT CORNER WHEN TURNING STEERING WHEEL TO EITHER LIMIT.*AK
MY WIFE'S 2001 TOYOTA CAMRY HAS AN AIR CONDITIONER ODOR. WE HAVE BEEN LEAD TO BELIEVE THAT IT MAY BE CAUSED BY THE A/C GETTING TOO COLD, FREEZING UP, AND ACTUALLY CAUSING MOLD IN THE A/C SYSTEM. SHE HAS DRIVEN THE CAR FOR 2 1/2 YEARS AND NOW HAS CANCER. WE HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO DO ANYTHING TO RID THE CAR OF THE ODOR. DOESN'T EXPOSURE TO MOLD, IF SO, CAUSE HEALTH PROBLEMS? WE SPENT A YEAR TRYING TO LOCATE AN ODOR IN THE CAR. REPLACED MATS, DETAILED THE UPHOLSTRY, ETC. *AK
CAR SPUTTERS AND KILLS WHILE TRYING TO START. WILL START AFTER A COUPLE OF ATTEMPTS - THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN NAMED THE "COLD START PROBLEM" BY TOYOTA.. TOYOTA HAS REPLACED THE COMPUTER, FUEL INJECTORS, FUEL PUMP, FUEL REGULATOR, SPARK PLUGS, CLEANED THE ENGINE.....NO GOOD. CAR IS DEFECTIVE AND THEY REFUSE TO REPLACE.
I PURCHASED A 2001 CAMRY LE (NEW) AND THE DOME LIGHT DOES NOT WORK THE WAY THE MANUAL SAYS IT SHOULD. I HAVE POWER DOOR LOCKS AND KEYLESS ENTRY- WHEN I USE MY KEYLESS ENTRY MY DOME LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON THE WAY MY MANUAL STATES IT SHOULD. AND WHEN I FIRST CLOSE MY DOOR THE DOME LIGHT DOES NOT STAY ON FOR THE 15 SECONDS LIKE THE MANUAL SAYS IT SHOULD. THIS IS VERY VERY UNSAFE FOR A PERSON TO GET INTO THIS CAR AFTER DARK!!!! IF SOMEONE WAS HIDING IN THE CAR THEY WOULD HAVE ALL THE ADVANTAGES - IF I USE MY KEYLESS ENTRY FROM 10 FEET AWAY AND MY LIGHT DOESN'T COME I CAN'T TELL SOMEONE WOULD BE IN THE CAR BUT, IN REALITY I HAVE JUST SIGNALED TO THAT PERSON THAT I'M ON MY WAY TO THE CAR, SO GET READY TO JUMP OUT AT ME. WE PURCHASED A BRAND NEW TOYOTA CAMRY 2001 LAST WEEK (MAY 2ND). THE CAR HAS A DEFECT ON THE STEERING (STEERING IS LOOSE OR PULLS TO ONE SIDE) THAT THE DEALER SERVICE CENTER HAS BEEN UNABLE TO FIX AFTER THE THIRD ATTEMPT. CAR IS STILL AT SERVICE CENTER, EACH TIME THEY TRY TO GET THE CAR BACK TO US WHILE THEY KNOW THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. A TECHNICIAN AT THE CENTER MENTIONNED A FACTORY DEFECT. WE ARE VERY CONCERNED BY THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE WE PAID $20,000 FOR AND WOULD RATHER GET OUR MONEY BACK.*AK
AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, PARTICULARLY FROM 45 MPH TO 65-75 MPH, STEERING WHEEL ON 2001 CAMRY LE 4-CYL VIBRATES. TIRES AND WHEELS HAVE BEEN BALANCED MANY TIMES BUT STILL NO REMEDY. ALIGNMENT WAS ALSO PERFORMED MANY TIMES BUT WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. WENT TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP 4 TIMES, WITH THE SAME CAUSE, DEALER TENTATIVELY FIXED ISSUE BUT RESTARTS (VIBRATES) AFTER A FEW MILES. STEERING WHEEL SEEMS LOOSE (ABOUT TO FALL OFF) AND MOVES THE CAR SLIGHTLY TO THE LEFT. VISUAL VIBRATE OF STEERING WHEEL IS SEEN AND OF COURSE FELT. THIS VIBRATE NOT SEEN IN MY PREVIOUS 1998 COROLLA AT THE SAME SPEED RANGE. ALSO, OTHER GENERATION 4 (1997-2001) CAMRY'S HAVE THE SAME DEFECT. POSSIBLE ENGINE MOUNT PROBLEM (ENGINE NOT HELD PROPERLY), OVER OR UNDER TORQUING OF STEERING WHEEL AND RELATED COMPONENTS. PROBABLY SUSPENSION FAILURE OR IMPROPER INSTALLATION OF STEERING AND SUSPENSION. NOTE: INCIDENT DATE IS TODAY'S DATE (02 MAY 03). INCIDENT HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES IN NORMAL DRIVING. NOTE: NUMBER OF FAILURES IS MEASURED IN EVERY TIME I START THE CAR AND DRIVE AT THE ABOVE SPECIFIED SPEEDS. HOWEVER, THE NUMBER IS LESSER SINCE IT HAS BEEN AWHILE THAT I REPORTED THE PROBLEM TO TOYOTA. *NLM

DRIVERS SEAT FEELS LIKE CUSHION FAILS ON DOOR SIDE, ALLOWING DRIVER TO FEEL HARD WIRE STRUCTURE AND CONNECTORS IN SEAT. *JB
HAVE HAD A WHEEL VIBRATION SINCE NEW CAR PURCHASE IN 2001 WITH SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO BALANCE AND ALIGN TIRES ALSO PURCHASED NEW TIRES IN 2003 WITH NO REMEDY OF VIBRATION. IF THIS IS THE TYPE OF TOYOTA QUALITY WE CAN EXPECT THEN I AM GOING TO BUY AMERICAN FROM NOW ON. *JB
WHILE DRIVING 60-65 MPH ENGINE STALLED, ACCELERATOR PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR. DEALER FOUND ACCELERATOR CABLE HAD SNAPPED. CONSUMER RECEIVED RECALL 01V012000 A COUPLE OF DAYS PRIOR TO THIS. CONSUMER INDICATED THAT LETTER DID NOT STATE THIS RECALL WAS URGENT. IF IT HAD, CONSUMER WOULD HAVE GONE STRAIGHT TO NEAREST TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. ALSO, CONSUMER WOULD LIKE TO ADD THAT HE RECEIVED FIRST CLASS ATTENTION FROM DEALER THAT REPAIRED VEHICLE, WHO WAS NOT A SELLING DEALER. *AK

DRIVER'S DOOR OF NEW CAR NEEDS MUCH MORE FORCE TO CLOSE THAN OTHER DOORS, ON ONE OCCASION THE DOOR OPENED WHILE VEHCILE WAS IN MOTION AND THE DOOR LIGHT DID NOT COME ON, THE CONSUMER BELIVES THE DOOR WAS DEFECTIVE AND IS A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM.*YH
FRONT END HAS VIBRATION. THE MORE VEHICLE ACCELERATES VIBRATION GETS WORSE.DEALER HAS TRIED 6 TIMES TO REPAIR PROBLEM BY BALANCING WHEEL/ FRONT ALIGNMENT AND REPLACING FRONT AXLE ON BOTH SIDES. THE REMEDIES HAVE NOT WORKED.*AK
AIRBAG DID NOT OPEN, DURING THIS ACCIDENT THERE WERE 3 DEATHS.
NOTICED A VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL SINCE THE FIRST MONTH OF PURCHASE HAVE HAD MANY FRONT END ALIGNMENTS AND WHEEL BAL PLUS CHANGED TIRES THREE TIMES. STILL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM TO THIS DAY. *TR
WITHIN ONE WEEK OF OWNERSHIP, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO BOG DOWN WHEN MAKING A TURN FROM A DEAD STOP. A DAY LATER THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE PROBLEM WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALERS ATTENTION AND THE REPLY WAS THAT; "WE DON'T KNOW WHAT'S WRONG, WHEN WE FIND OUT WE'LL LET YOU KNOW...UNTIL THEN, BE CAREFUL" THAT WAS OVER A MONTH AGO AND I HAVEN'T HEARD ANYTHING FROM THEM. I CALLED TO FIND OUT WHAT WAS GOING ON AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY STILL DIDN'T HAVE A CLUE WHAT WAS WRONG. THE VEHICLE IS UNPREDICTABLE WHEN TAKING OFF AND HAS ALREADY RESULTED IN A COUPLE OF CLOSE CALLS WHEN PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC. THE GENERAL ATTITUDE IS NONCHALANT AND NOBODY HAS MADE ANY ATTEMPT TO NOTIFY ME OF ANYTHING. FROM WHAT I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP. ALL THE 2001 HIGHLANDERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS 2001 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE LOST BRAKE PRESSURE AND CONTINUED MOVING THROUGH A TRAFFIC LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING 30 MILES PER HOUR WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO STOP THE VEHICLE, THE BRAKES DID RESPOND. AFTER PUMPING THE BRAKES FIVE TIMES THEY BEGAN TO RESPOND. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 147,000.
WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER IS RUNNING AND I AM STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT THE BREAK PEDAL WILL DROP APPROXIMATELY 1 INCH IN ABOUT 1 SECOND. THIS HAS OCCURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. IT IS AN UNSAFE CONDITION AND SOMEWHAT SCARY. I REPORTED THIS TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT IT IS NORMAL. I FIND THIS INCREDIBLY HARD TO BELIEVE. I ASKED THEM FOR DOCUMENTATION TO PROVE THAT THIS BEHAVIOR IS NORMAL BUT THEY WOULD NOT PRODUCE ANYTHING. *AK
ENGINE CHECK LIGHT COMES ON DASHBOARD PANEL STAYING ON CONTINUSOULY. DEALERSHIP REPLACED COMPUTER PART, AND THE PROBLEM IS STILL OCCURS. *AK
BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON IN LATE P.M. HOURS AND RECYCLE ON AND OFF TILL BATTERY FINALLY DIES. UNKNOWN IF THEY COME ON AUTOMATICALLY WHEN DRIVING. HAS BEEN TO DEALER 5 VISITS TOTALLING 19 DAYS, 3 TIMES HAD TO BE TOWED DUE TO DEAD BATTERY. DEALER UNABLE TO FIND PROBLEM. TOYOTA CUSTOMER NOTIFIED 4 TIMES, STILL NO CALL BACK. ATTY. GEN./MASS. TIRE IS LOW-PROFILE DESIGN STANDARD ON PRIUS. EXPLOSIVE SEPARATION OCCURRED ON DRY ROADWAY WITHOUT DEBRIS. OUTSIDE AIR TEMPERATURE WAS APPROXIMATELY 78 DEGREES. THANK GOODNESS THAT THE TIRE WAS ON THE REAR. DRIVER WAS ABLE TO INITIATE A CONTROLLED STOP FROM THE NUMBER ONE LANE TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER. THE SEPARATION CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE LEFT REAR QUARTER-PANEL, THE ALLOY RIM AND OF COURSE THE TIRE. BRIDGESTONE CUSTOMER CARE WAS CONTACTED AT 800-847-3272 AND I WAS ADVISED THAT THEY WOULD SEND A CLAIM PACKAGE WITHIN 5 DAYS. THERE IS NO REFERENCE NUMBER ASSIGNED. THEY INDICATED THAT THEY WOULD PAY FOR REPAIRS. SERIAL NUMBER FOR ALL 4 TIRES IS: CHA3700. IT IS LIKELY THAT THIS LOT OF TIRES IS ON ALL OF THE PRIUS VEHICLES SITTING AT THE LONG BEACH, CALIFORNIA STORAGE FACILITY. THE TIRE PRESSURE ON THE VEHICLE WAS CHECKED THE DAY BEFORE THE INCIDENT AND ALL TIRES WERE INFLATED ACCORDING TO SPECIFICATIONS. *AK (DOT NUMBER: EL9P TIRESIZE: P17565 R14)
