2002 TOYOTA CAMRY DOOR HANDLE BREAK PREVENTING DOOR FROM BEING OPENED FROM THE INSIDE. YOU HAVE TO ROLL THE WINDOWS DOWN IN ORDER TO GET THE DOOR OPEN. *LA
CAR PULLS TO THE LEFT. *LA
ON FOUR DIFFERENT OCCASIONS, I'VE HAD TROUBLE WITH THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES. THE FIRST TWO INCIDENTS WERE ON SNOWY AND RAINY ROADWAYS, SO I FIGURED IT WAS THE ROAD CONDITIONS THAT CAUSED THE PROBLEM. THE THIRD TIME I WAS ON IDEAL ROAD CONDITIONS, INCLUDING NO SAND ON THE ROADWAY. I BRAKED AS USUAL BUT THE CAR DID NOT STOP IN THE NORMAL DISTANCE AND CONTINUED TO TRAVEL LONGER THAN THE NORMAL. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. IT HAPPENED FOR THE FOURTH TIME ON MY REGULAR ROUTE TO WORK. I APPLIED THE BRAKES AS USUAL AND THE BRAKES ENGAGED, BUT DID NOT HOLD. I WAS NEITHER SLIDING NOR SKIDDING, BUT CONTINUED TO TRAVEL ALONG AT ABOUT THE SAME RATE OF SPEED. SINCE I WAS COMING TO A MAJOR ROADWAY, I WAS FORCED TO PUT IT IN PARK TO STOP THE CAR OR I WOULD HAVE EASILY TRAVELED ACROSS TWO LANES OF TRAFFIC. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, AGAIN. THEY INSPECTED IT ALL OVER AND SAID THIS IS NORMAL FOR ABS BRAKES. *LA
FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER PLASTIC DOORS KNOB HANDLE BROKE WHILE EXITING THE VEHICLE. DEALER REPLACED BOTH HANDLES, BUT THE PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK
WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKE PEDAL VEHICLE ACCELERATED UNCONTROLLABLY. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND PULLED OVER. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION TWICE. HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK
ON SEPT. 27 THE LEFT REAR TIRE EXPLODED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH. I PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND EXAMINED TIRE. TIRE HAD SUSTAINED MANY RIPS AND TEARS ALONG THE SIDE AND NUMEROUS FIBERS WERE EXPOSED WITHIN THE RIPS AND TEARS. THE TIRE WAS NOT FLATTENED. ALL THE DAMAGE WAS ON THE SIDE OF THE TIRE. THE TIRES ON MY 2002 CAMRY CAME WITH THE PURCHASE OF THE VEHICLE AND HAD ONLY 18,000 MILES. THE BRIDGESTONE/FIRESTONE INSPECTOR UPON EXAMINATION OF THE TIRE DENIED IT WAS DEFECTIVE. *LA
WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH REAR DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT, CAUSING THE DRIVER TO PULL OFF THE ROAD. OWNER HAS CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP.*AK
I DRIVE A 2002 TOYOTA CAMRY LE PURCHASED AUGUST 2002, AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. SOMETIMES WHEN I STEP ON THE BRAKE MY FOOT ALSO PRESSES THE GAS PEDAL AND THE CAR JUMPS FORWARD A FEW FEET BEFORE I REGAIN CONTROL AND STOP IT. THE BRAKE PEDAL AND GAS PEDAL ARE TOO CLOSE TOGETHER AND/OR THEIR HEIGHT FROM THE FLOOR OR RANGE OF MOTION ARE BAD. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 50 YEARS, HAVEN'T HAD THIS PROBLEM SIGNIFICANTLY BEFORE. MY LAST CAR WAS A '92 FORD TAURUS - HAD NO SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH IT. I AM TALL, HAVE BIG FEET - SIZE 12 OR 13 SHOES. I AM AFRAID I MIGHT ACCIDENTALLY HIT A PEDESTRIAN WHO STEPPED IN FRONT OF MY CAR, OR BUMP INTO ANOTHER CAR WHEN I AM MOVING BACK AND FORTH WHILE PARKING OR TURNING IN TIGHT LOCATIONS. OTHERWISE THE CAR IS GOOD, BUT THIS PROBLEM IS BAD ENOUGH THAT I WOULD BUY ANOTHER CAR NOW IF THE LOSS FROM ONE YEAR'S DEPRECIATION WAS NOT AS HIGH. YOU (NHTSA) MIGHT HAVE STATISTICS THAT WOULD PERMIT YOU TO CHECK THIS OUT, THEN GET TOYOTA TO REDESIGN THE PEDALS. *JB
WHILE DRIVING IN CRUISE CONTROL AT 60 MPH, CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT DISENGAGE. VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED, BUT THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD STILL BE ENGAGED. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM. *AK
MAKIA CAFUA, DRIVING HER 2002 TOYOTA CAMRY. WAS ENTERING I-93 AT EXIT 39 AT 5:30 IN THE MORNING WHEN HER CAR SUDDENLY SHOT ACROSS THREE LANES OF TRAVEL AND WAS HIT, BROAD SIDE, BY ANOTHER VEHICLE TRAVELING IN THE HIGH SPEED (3RD) LANE. TRAFFIC AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT WAS LIGHT. IT IS BELIEVED THAT THE CAMRY EXPERIENCED AN UN-COMMANDED ACCELERATION CAUSING THE DRIVER TO LOSE CONTROL RESULTING IN THE ACCIDENT AND HER DEATH. THE CAMRY HAS BEEN STORED SINCE THE ACCIDENT AND NO CHANGES HAVE BEEN MADE TO ITS POST ACCIDENT CONDITION. SEVERE VIBRATION IN STEERING WHEN BRAKES APPLIED 20+ MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE. BROUGHT TO DEALER, DEFORMED ROTORS, MACHINED FRONT DISC BRAKES & REPLACED PADS. WHEN BRAKING AFTER THIS, VEHICLE PULLED TO THE LEFT. 24 MONTHS LATER HAD SAME SEVERE VIBRATION/BRAKES AGAIN. RESEARCHED COMPLAINTS NHTSA SITE..MANY HAVE SAME COMPLAINT TO DEALER AGAIN & THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME $99 TO DIAGNOSE. I SAID NO & THE MGR STEVE SAID WE DON'T CHARGE THAT FEE FOR BRAKES. I ADVISED I KNEW OF TSB'S ISSUED FOR THIS CAR & SHOULDN'T HAVE SAME PROBLEM FROM 2 YRS AGO. HE SAID ONLY 1 YR WARRANTY ON PREV WORK, BUT HE WOULD TAKE A LOOK. HE SAID MY ROTORS WERE WARPED & COULD NOT BE MACHINED AGAIN, ONLY REPLACED, HOWEVER BRAKE PADS ARE REPLACED WHEN THEY ARE 2 ML & MINE WERE AT 7-8, & SAFE SO EITHER REPLACE ROTORS & PADS $469 LIVE W/ VIBRATION UNTIL PADS WORN DOWN TO 2 ML THEN DO BRAKE JOBE. I ADVISED I KNEW OF TSB'S FOR THIS PROBLEM & HE SAID HE ALREADY CHECKED & THERE AREN'T. I SAID CHECK AGAIN & AFTER WAITING TOLD ME THERE WAS A TSB BUT IT HAD EXPIRED BUT IN AN ACT OF "GOOD WILL" HE WOULD ORDER THE PART AND DO THE REPAIR TO BOTH FRONT BRAKES FREE. I MADE AN APPT & WENT FOR REPAIR. REPAIR ORDER SAID ONLY ONE SIDE ROTOR AND PAD REPLACED. NOW WHEN I APPROACH HGWY SPEED OF 60-65 MPH, STEERING WHEEL SHIMMIES. PEOPLE ARE HAVING ACCIDENTS DUE TO THESE BRAKE PROBLEMS ACCORDING TO NHTSA COMPLAINTS & NOTHING IS BEING DONE! I WORRY SOMEONE WILL BE HURT BECAUSE THIS PROBLEM IS NOT DEEMED WORTHY OF A RECALL. THE DESIGN OF THE BRAKES IS A PROBLEM. *NM
MY CAR'S CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND MY SON WOULD CHECK THE CODE (PO420) THEN SEND ME TO THE DEALER. I TOOK THIS CAR TO TWO DIFFERENT DEALERS DURING THIS TIME. THE FIRST TIME THE LIGHT CAME ON I WAS OUT OF TOWN AND TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL DEALER WHO CHANGED A SENSOR CONNECTED TO THE EXHAUST SYSTEM. THE NEXT TIME TO LIGHT CAME ON I TOOK THE CAR TO A DEALER IN MY AREA AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS A BAD SENSOR (SAME ONE THAT HAD JUST BEEN CHANGED) AFTER I TOLD THEM THAT SENSOR HAD ALREADY BEEN REPLACED THEY CAME BACK AND TOLD ME THAT IT WAS A DIFFERENT SENSOR. I LEFT THIS DEALER AND SHORTLY AFTER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AGAIN AND I WENT BACK TO THE SECOND DEALER WHO SAID THAT THE COMPUTER NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN ON GOING FOR ABOUT FOUR YEARS, DURING WHICH TIME MY CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND THE FIRST SERVICE BULLETIN ON THIS PROBLEM WAS ISSUED ON MAY 24, 2004 AND THE SECOND ON JULY 27, 2004. NOW THAT THE CAR IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY I HAVE FOUND OUT ABOUT THESE SERVICE BULLETINS. I INTEND TO TAKE THIS ISSUE UP WITH TOYOTA AS THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPAIRED BACK IN 2004. *NM
THE VEHICLE WAS BEING PARKED PARALLEL TO THE CURB. WITH THE DRIVERS FOOT ON THE BRAKE, HE SHIFTED FROM PARK TO DRIVE AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED FORWARD, THROUGHOUT THE INTERSECTION, OVER A CURB INCREASING IN SPEED. THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE DRIVER ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE, BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. *AK *SCC *JB
MY 2002 CAMRY HAS BEEN A GREAT CAR EXCEPT FOR THE FOUL ODOR COMING FROM THE AIR CONDITIONER. I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALER AS WELL AS TOYOTA ABOUT THIS PROBLEM SEVERAL TIMES BUT NOTHING HAS BEEN FIXED. WE ARE STILL DEALING WITH THE ODOR FROM THE AIR CONDITIONER. *JB
THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WOULD SHIFT HARSHLY INTO DRIVE WHEN THE ENGINE WAS COLD BUT WHEN WARMED UP THE VEHICLE DROVE SMOOTHLY. THE STEERING WHEEL HUMMED WHEN TURNED WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH. IT WAS LATER DETERMINED THAT A BUSHING FOR THE STEERING SHAFT NEEDED TO BE LUBRICATED. THE UPPER AND LOWER BELT MOLDING AROUND THE DRIVER'S DOOR CAME OFF. A FAULTY CHARCOAL CANISTER CAUSED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE. *AK *NLM
DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT JIGGLES AND MOVES 1 TO 1 1/2 INCHES FORWARD WHEN STOPPING. THEN, GOES BACK INTO PLACE WHEN THE VEHICLE STOPS. CONSUMER IS AFRAID THAT THE SEAT MAY COME DETACHED FROM ITS LINKAGE. DEALERSHIP TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE, AND INDICATED THAT IT WAS FINE, AND THE SEAT WAS SUPPOSE TO DO THIS. *AK NEW RAILS WERE INSTALLED BY THE DEALER BUT THE PROBLEM RECURRED. *NM
WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AND WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING ENGINE CHECK LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD. *AK

WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A HEAD ON COLLISION AND THE FRONT AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. *AK *SCC *JB
2002 CAMRY DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT INSIDE DOOR HANDLE BROKE OFF PREVENTING EXIT FROM VEHICLE. VEHICLE HAS 16,000 MILES ON IT. THIS PART IS MADE OF PLASTIC. ALL OF MY CURRENT AND RECENT VEHICLES HAVE A METAL INSIDE DOOR HANDLE I.E 1994 AND 1996 HONDA ACCORDS, 1992 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY AND 1990 TOYOTA CAMRY.
I EXPERIENCED A TREMENDOUS FRUSTRATION -- WHILE DRIVING IN DOWNTOWN WASHINGTON, DC, MY CAR LOST ITS POWER STEERING. WHEN I OPENED THE HOOD, I SAW THAT THE RESERVOIR FOR POWER STEERING FLUID WAS INDEED FULL. NOT WANTING TO BE STRANDED 40 MILES FROM HOME, I DROVE TO THE DEALER FROM WHICH I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. I WAS ADVISED THAT IT COULD BE SEVERAL DAYS BEFORE MY CAR WAS EVALUATED AND/OR REPAIRED. ABOUT 2 DAYS AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, I RETURNED IT FOR 2 COMPLAINTS: (1) THE DRIVER SEAT JARS FORWARD AND BACK UPON STOPPING AND ACCELERATING, APPROXIMATELY 80-90% OF THE TIME; (2) STOPPING/SLOWING THE VEHICLE AT SPEEDS GREATER THAN 40MPH (SUCH AS WHEN SLOWING FOR AN EXIT) CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO SHAKE AND PULL TO ONE SIDE. I WAS ADVISED, BY THE SERVICES MANAGER THAT THE SEAT MOVING "HAPPENS IN THIS KIND OF CAR", AND THAT THE ALIGNMENT OF THE CAR WAS "OK" AND THAT "PULLING AND SHAKING HAPPENS IN THIS KIND OF CAR". AND, I'VE TOLERATED IT. NOW, I'M WONDERING IF THE SHUT DOWN OF THE STEERING ALSO 'HAPPENS IN THIS KIND OF CAR'. IF SO, I DON'T WANT "THIS KIND OF CAR" AND PERHAPS MY NEEDS WOULD BEST BE SERVED BY SOME OTHER 'KIND OF CAR'
THREE TIMES CONSUMER WENT TO TOYOTA TO TELL THEM THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH MY BRAKES. THE FIRST TIME, (MAY 3,03) WAS BRAKING SLOWLY AND 2002 CAMRY JUMPED AHEAD, THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK. THE SECOND TIME(MAY 28,03) I CONSUMERWENT IN, TOLD THEM BRAKE PEDAL WENT SLOWLY DOWN TO THE FLOOR WHEN STOPPING FOR A LIGHT. 1993 CAMRY NEVER DID THAT. ALSO NO OHTER CAR I HAD DID THAT. THEY TESTED, SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. THE THIRD TIMEON JULY 3, CONSUMERTOLD THEM, DO NOT TELL ME NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH BRAKES, DID NOT WANT TO HEAR IT! HE DROVE THE CAR AND SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. NOW ON JULY 11, 2003, WHILE PARKED AT MACY'S MALL AT CROSS COUNTY, I AM BACKING UP SLOWLY OUT OF MY SPACE, AND ALL OF A SUDDEN, CONSUMER'S VEHICLE JUMPED AHEAD FLYING AND HIT TWO PARKED CARS FACING HER. ALL THE VEHICLES HAD DAMAGE. CONSUMER WILL NEVER DRIVE THAT CAR AGAIN, COULD HAVE KILLED SOMEONE.*AK
BOTH REAR BRAKE DISCS WERE GROOVED AFTER 4000 MILES OF USE. DEALERSHIP TURNED ROTORS. PROBLEMS STILL EXISTED WITH NOISE. TOOK TO SECOND DEALER AND THEY TURNED DISCS (SECOND TURNING) DIAGNOSIS: WARPED DISCS. MY CONSCERN IS THE SAFETY OF THE REAR BRAKES NEW, AS WELL AS AFTER THE REMEDY (TURNING). CUSTOMER SERVICE REP. FROM FIRST DEALER STATED THAT THERE HAVE BEEN MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT NOISE, BUT IT IS PERFECTLY SAFE. *AK
2002 XLE CAMRY OIL AND FILTER HAS BEEN CHANGED EVERY 3000-3500 MILES. AT THE FIRST 3000 MARK A SMALL AMOUNT OF METALLIC METAL WAS FOUND IN THE OIL. AT THE 9000 MARK OIL AND FILTER CHANGE (THIRD OIL CHANGE) A LARGER AMOUNT OF METALLIC METAL WAS FOUND IN THE OIL. BETWEEN THE THIRD OIL AND FILTER CHANGE THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF METAL UNTIL THE OIL CHANGE THAT WAS DONE AT 18145 MILES. MORE METAL IS FOUND IN THE OIL AT THE 18145 MILE OIL AND FILTER CHANGE. *NLM
I HAD A NEW 2002 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE BRAKES SEEMED TO BE VERY SOFT WHEN THE FIRST DAY I DROVE THE CAR HOME FROM THE DEALER - I NEEDED TO REALLY PRESS THE BRAKE DOWN TO GET THE CAR TO STOP. I WENT BACK TO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY, THEY CHECKED AND TOLD ME NO PROBLEMS WERE FOUND. LATER I ALSO FOUND THAT WHEN BRAKING FROM A SLIGHTLY MORE ELEVATED SPEED (BET 40-50 MILES), THE CAR'S ABS SYSTEM SEEMED TO MAKE THE BRAKE PUMP BY ITSELF AND CAUSE BRAKING TO DELAY. I WAS WORRIED ABOUT THIS AND WENT BACK TO THE DEALERS AT LEAST ANOTHER TWO TIMES BUT EVERY TIME WAS TOLD NO PROBLEMS. BECAUSE THE BRAKE, I HAD THREE ACCIDENTS IN WHICH TWO TIMES I REAR-ENDED THE VEHICLES THAT HAD STOPPED IN FRONT OF ME AND THE FRONT END OF CAR WAS BADLY DAMAGED. I HAD NOT BEEN GOING MORE THAN 30 MILES AN HOUR, AS FAR AS I KNOW. BUT IF THE BRAKES HAD FUNCTIONED CORRECTLY, I DO NOT THINK THE ACCIDENTS WOULD HAVE OCCURRED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN IN INCLEMENT WEATHER OR OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD, THE BRAKES MADE A LOUD NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER SEVERAL TIMES. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS ELECTRICAL AND REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ANOTHER DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS WITHIN THE ABS COMPUTER SYSTEM BUT THE DEALER DID NOT KNOW HOW TO REPAIR IT. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER BUT WAS OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 38,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 55,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 TOYOTA CAMRY LE. WHILE DRIVING INTO A PARKING SPACE AND APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL THE VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY ACCELERATED. THE VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP IMMEDIATELY AFTER AN AGGRESSIVE FORCE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE IDENTICAL FAILURE OCCURRED ON A SEPARATE OCCASION WITHOUT WARNING. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE HAS NOT BEEN DETERMINED. THE CONTACT HAD CONCERNS OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. UPDATED 11/23/09 *BF UPDATED 11/24/09
CONSUMER DISTURBED HE HAS A TOYOTA CAMRY THAT COULD NOT BE REPAIRED BY WESTCHESTER TOYOTA. *PH THE VEHICLE SUNROOF AND RIGHT REAR DOOR HANDLE LEAKED BUT THE DEALER INDICATED THAT THEY COULD NOT FIX THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT SEE THE LEAK. THE DEALER HAS ATTEMPTED TO FIX THE VEHICLE ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS BUT WITH NO SUCCESS. THE CONSUMER IS CONCERNED ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF TOXIC MOLD GROWING IN THE VEHICLE. *NM
TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT TOUCH CONSUMER'S VEHICLE NOR REPAIR IT BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T SEE A LEAK. *PH WATER WAS LEAKING FROM THE RIGHT REAR DOOR HANDLE. THERE HAD BEEN FOUR UNSUCCESSFUL ATTEMPTS TO REPAIR THE SUNROOF LEAK. HAVING TO WAIT FOR THE FIELD TECHNICAL SPECIALIST TO REPAIR THE LEAK, MOLD AND MILDEW HAD DEVELOPED IN THE ROOF AREA, DOOR HANDLE AND THE RIGHT BACK SEAT CUSHION. VEHICLE HAD YET TO BE REPAIRED. *PH

WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION. NEITHER OF THE FRONT AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED. *NLM THE CONSUMER HIT AN OBJECT IN THE ROAD AND LOSS CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO ANOTHER HEAD ON. *SCC *JB
I WENT OVERSEAS FOR TWO MONTHS AND RETURNED WHICH I DO FREQUENTLY AND WILL IN THE FUTURE. I HAD THE CAR PARKED AND NO ONE DROVE THE VEHICLE AND IT ONLY HAS APPROXIMATELY 7,500 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. I WENT TO APPLY THE BRAKES FOR THE FIRST TIME AND THE VEHICLE SURGED BACK AND FORTH AND ALMOST CRASHED. THE BRAKES CATCH" AND THEN RELEASE IN A SEVERE LUNGING MOTION AND THE CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. AFTER SPEAKING TO THE DEALER, I WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS RUST BUILDUP AND IT WOULD NOT BE UNDER WARRANTY AND I MUST PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. IN ALL MY 30 YEARS OF DRIVING I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING AND CONSIDER THE BRAKING SYSTEM OR PARTS INFERIOR AND THEIR SHOULD BE A WARNING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM OR IT COULD BE POTENTIALLY A FATAL SITUATION. I HAVE HAD VEHICLES SIT AROUND FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME AND HAVE NEVER HAD SUCH A PROBLEM SUCH AS THIS. SO IT SEEMS THAT AFTER GOING AWAY AND RETURNING TO DRIVE THIS $23K VEHICLE, I MUST PAY FOR REPAIRS EVERY TIME. I WILL NOT DRIVE THIS VEHICLE AND AM LOOKING INTO LEGAL ACTION. *JB
WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK WITH FOOT APPLIED TO BRAKE PEDAL VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, CRASHING INTO A TREE.*AK
CAR TURNS OFF WHILE DRIVING. THE KEY IS WHERE THE DRIVER'S KNEE APPROXIMATES THE DASH. IF THERE ARE ANY KEYS ON A RING, THE MOVEMENT OF THE KNEE HITTING THESE OTHER KEYS TURNS OFF THE IGNITION.
WHEN THE PAVEMENT WAS WET AND THE CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKES THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND VEHICLE DIDN'T STOP. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE BUT COULD NO DUPLICATE OR CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *NLM
THE VEHICLE TAIL PIPE HAD A SHARP EDGE WHICH CUT THE CONSUMER FINGER WHILE HE WAS WASHING HIS VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A STITCH TO CLOSE THE CUT. *MR *SCC *NLM
I HAVE A 2002 TOYOTA CAMRY, AUTO, 4 CYLS. THE CAR HAS A SURGE LIKE MOVEMENT WHEN I TRY TO PULL OUT OF STOP, REDUCE SPEED THEN REACCELERATE AND PRESS THE GAS PEDAL AFTER TURNING THE CAR AT AN INTERSECTION. WHEN THE CAR ACCELERATES, IT INCREASE SPEED INITIALLY, THEN LOOSE POWER FOR A SECOND, AFTER THAT REGAIN SPEED. THE CAR ALSO ABRUPTLY REDUCES SPEED WHEN CRUISING BETWEEN 40 AND 60 MPH IF I RELEASE THE GAS JUST A LITTLE.
WHEN TRYING TO PARK, THE DRIVER PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SURGED FORWARD. THE VEHICLE RAN OVER THE CURB AND HIT A SIGN. *AK THE CONSUMER WAS SLOWLY DRIVING IN THE PARKING LOT, FOUND A PARKING SPACE, THEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED OVER THE CURB. *SC *JB

SUNROOF WILL NOT SEAL CORRECTLY THEREFORE REAR FLOOR IS NOW WET. NOW EXPERIENCING ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER OFF BUYING A 1950 STUDEBAKER! AND GM IS IN TROUBLE? LAST TOYOTA FOR ME. BRAKE FAILURE OF 2002 TOYOTA CAMRY V6 WITH ABS BRAKES. BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOORBOARD, BRAKES MAKE LOUD RATCHETING / GRINDING SOUND, CAR DOES NOT STOP. ON THREE OCCASIONS, APPROACHING STOPS AT LESS THAN 30 MPH, CAR HAS GONE THROUGH LIMIT LINE EXCEEDING STOPPING POINT BY AT LEAST 10 FEET, UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. THIS CAR HAS BEEN INSPECTED BY MANUFACTURER THREE TIMES. SERVICE DEPARTMENT IS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THIS IS "NORMAL" FOR ABS BRAKES. PAPERWORK FROM SERVICE DEPARTMENT ALSO INDICATES THAT CAR IS SAFE TO DRIVE. I AM AFRAID TO PUT MYSELF, A PASSENGER, OR ANOTHER MOTORIST AT RISK. THE CAR IS JUST OVER ONE-YEAR-OLD, AND I HAVE COMPLETELY STOPPED DRIVING THE CAR. I HAVE WRITTEN A LETTER TO TOYOTA 4-26-03 REQUESTING A FULL REFUND UNDER THE LEMON LAW. *NLM

VEHICLE'S NEW BRAKING SYSTEM WAS UNSAFE. BRAKE PEDAL HAD TO BE DEPRESSED ALMOST TO THE FLOOR BEFORE IT ENGAGED. AS A RESULT, THE CONSUMER ACCIDENTALLY HIT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WHILE BRAKING. *AK THE CONSUMER'S WIFE WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE, AND AS SHE TURNED THE CORNER, THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED AND DID NOT RESPOND. THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED OVER THE CURB, ONTO THE SIDE WALK, AND INTO THE LIBRARY. (ONE MUST PLACE THERE FOOT ON THE CENTER OF THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE FOOT COULD POSSIBLY DEPRESS THE ACCELERATOR) *SCC *JB
