DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE APPLYING BRAKE PRESSURE AT 25 MPH ON A CITY STREET, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LURCHED FORWARD WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT ENGAGED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND PLACED THE VEHICLE IN PARK WHICH STOPPED THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE FLOOR MAT WAS PRESSED AGAINST THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. ADDITIONALLY, THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP THAT WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. UPDATED 10/6/2006 - WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES TO MAKE A LEFT TURN, THE CAR LURCHED FORWARD AND STARTED ACCELERATING. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE UP TO 50 MPH. WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKE PEDAL NOTHING HAPPENED. WHEN PUTTING THE CAR IN PARK NOTHING HAPPENED. WHEN APPLYING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE THE CAR STARTED TO SLOW DOWN. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED ACCELERATING ON IT'S OWN FOR ANOTHER FIVE HUNDRED FEET. THE TOW TRUCK OPERATOR ARRIVED AND CHECK THE FLOOR MATS, NOTING THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE FLOOR MAT'S POSITIONING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THAT THE FLOOR MAT BECAME STUCK UNDER THE ACCELERATOR. THE DEALER TRIMMED THE CARPET. *NM UPDATED 10/26/11
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE LEAVING FROM A CAR WASH, THE VEHICLE SURGED UNCONTROLLABLY. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKES AND CRASHED INTO A FENCE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY A MECHANIC. THE ENTIRE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND THE FRONT BUMPER HAD TO BE REPLACED AND A WHEEL ALIGNMENT WAS PERFORMED. THE MECHANIC REPLACED A LIGHT BODY SIZE MOLDING. THE POWERTRAIN, SPEED, VALID VIN, AND DEALER INFORMATION WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 9,980 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,346.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLES STEERING LOCKS UP, AND WILL NEED AN IGNITION CYLINDER FOR REPAIR THE PROBLEM. SEVERAL DEALERS CONFIRMED THAT THIS IS A RECURRING ISSUE WITH VEHICLES OF THIS YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE INSIDE OF A PUBLIC PARKING GARAGE THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD CRASHING INTO THREE POLES AND A TICKET MACHINE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. UPDATED 8/14/2006 - THE IMPACT CAUSED WHIPLASH AND PAIN IN THE CONSUMER'S NECK. THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED BEFORE AND RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT. THE CONSUMER BELIEVES THE PEDALS MAY BE TOO CLOSE TOGETHER CAUSING HIM TO HIT THEM SIMULTANEOUSLY WHILE BRAKING. THE CONSUME BELIEVES THE HEAD REST ARE TOO LOW TO PREVENT WHIPLASH. *NM
ON 7-23-06, AN ACCIDENT OCCURRED EXITING A PARKING LOT. THE ACCELERATOR STUCK AND THE DRIVER COULD NOT STOP THE CAR WITH THE BRAKES. OVER $10,000 IN DAMAGE PLUS BODILY INJURY OCCURRED. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED. A SIMILAR ACCIDENT OCCURRED ON 12/30/04. COMPLAINTS WERE ALSO PERIODICALLY MADE TO THE DEALER ABOUT THE BRAKES MADE TO THE DEALER. A FORMAL COMPLAINT WAS FINALLY MADE TO TOYOTA USA ASKING THEM TO BUY BACK THE CAR. ARBITRATION PROCEEDINGS WERE HELD ON 11/16/06 AT A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. TOYOTA HAD SOMEONE REVIEW CAR'S BREAKING AND ACCELERATOR AND THEY FOUND NO PROBLEM AND THE CLAIM WAS DENIED TO BUY BACK THE CAR. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE ABS ACTIVATED AT LOW SPEEDS CAUSING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO GO TO THE FLOOR.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE REVERSING THE VEHICLE PARKED IN THE GARAGE WITH THE BRAKE APPLIED, IT SUDDENLY LURCHED BACKWARDS AT HIGH SPEEDS CRASHING INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. AFTER THE INITIAL CRASH, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED ACCELERATING IN REVERSE ACROSS THE STREET AND CRASHED INTO A NEIGHBORING HOUSE WHICH BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO A STOP. THE CONTACT WAS WEARING A SEAT BELT, AND NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THERE WAS EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE POLICE WERE ALERTED AND A REPORT WAS TAKEN. A FIELD TECHNICAL SPECIALIST FROM THE MANUFACTURER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. THE REPRESENTATIVE WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE INCIDENT.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE'S ACCELERATOR PEDAL STUCK AT 30 MPH WHILE BACKING UP INTO A PARKING SPACE AT A SERVICE STATION. THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES, BUT THE ACCELERATION CONTINUED. THE CONTACT STOMPED ON THE BRAKES, AND ACCIDENTLY SLIPPED OFF THE BRAKES ONTO THE ACCELERATOR BEFORE IMPACT. THE VEHICLE'S REAR END SLAMMED INTO A BUILDING AND THE DRIVER WAS INJURED. THERE WAS OVER $6000 DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE.
I AM WRITING DUE TO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THAT HAS BEEN ON FOR AT LEAST THE LAST YEAR. IT WAS A 4 CYLINDER, BUT ONE WOULDN'T KNOW IT BY DRIVING THE VEHICLE, NOT AT FIRST ANYWAY. I PURCHASED IT IN JULY 2005. SINCE THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE CAR SEEMED TO BE SLUGGISH. I DIDN'T T KNOW WHY THIS LIGHT WAS ON, AND WAS WONDERING IF THE ENGINE HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT BEING SLUGGISH. ALSO, WAS LEAKING RIGHT WHERE THE ENGINE WAS. A FRIEND OF MINE HAS A CAMRY, AND TOLD ME THAT THE ENGINES IN CAMRYS WERE RECALLED. HERS WAS ONE OF THEM. I DIDN'T KNOW WHY THE LIGHT WAS ON, BUT I WANT TO SEE IF THE ENGINE WAS ONE OF THOSE RECALLED. ALSO ,THE BRAKES WENT DOWN FURTHER THAN ANY OTHER CAR THAT I HAVE EVER DRIVEN. I TOOK THE BRAKES TO GET THEM CHECKED, BUT THEY SAID THAT THEY WERE FINE. TOO ME, IT JUST DID NOT SEEM NORMAL. BUT THEN, THIS CAMRY WAS THE ONLY CAMRY THAT I HAVE EVER DRIVEN. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE MY 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY LE ONTO A PARKWAY, MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND. I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR EXPECTING THAT MY VEHICLE WOULD INCREASE IN SPEED. I WANTED TO INCREASE MY SPEED SO I COULD MATCH THE SPEED OF TRAFFIC ALREADY ON THE PARKWAY, ENABLING ME TO GET ONTO THE PARKWAY SAFELY. INSTEAD, MY CAMRY REMAINED STATIONARY AT IDLE SPEED FOR ABOUT 6 SECONDS. AFTER THE 6 SECONDS OR SO, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO INCREASE SPEED SLOWLY. FORTUNATELY THE PERSON BEHIND ME MAINTAINED A SAFE FOLLOWING DISTANCE AVOIDING A POTENTIAL ACCIDENT. ON JUNE 14, 2006, I BROUGHT MY CAR INTO THE DEALER AND TOLD HIM WHAT HAPPENED. ON THE DEALERSHIP FORM IT STATED "WE HAVE INSPECTED YOUR VEHICLE AND VEHICLE IS OPERATING WITHIN MANUFACTURER GUIDELINES. NO REPAIRS ARE NEEDED." I HAVE ALSO FILED A COMPLAINT ON NHTSA WEB SITE (ODI # 10317412) CONCERNING MY 2004 TOYOTA IN WHICH THE ENGINE RAPIDLY AND EXPONENTIALLY ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN AFTER I PUT MY CAR IN PARK POSITION. MY RIGHT FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL (AND ONLY THE BRAKE PEDAL) WHILE PUTTING TRANSMISSION IN PARK. *TR

THE VEHICLE THEN CRASHED INTO ANOTHER PARKED VEHICLE. THE POLICE ARRIVED TO THE SCENE AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED THROUGH HER INSURANCE COMPANY. I PURCHASED A 2004 CERTIFIED TOYOTA CAMRY, WITH 51,000 MILES ON THE UNIT. ONE WEEK AFTER PURCHASE THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK IT BACK TO DEALERSHIP, THEY JUST SAID IT WAS A SENSOR ISSUE, AND RESET THE LIGHT. THE LIGHT CONTINUED TO GO ON AND OFF FOR THE NEXT 7 MONTHS. I TOOK THE TOYOTA THE DEALERSHIP FOR AN OIL CHANGE IN APRIL 2006, AGAIN I COMPLAINED ABOUT THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON AND GOING OFF AT TIMES, THEY JUST RESET IT AGAIN, AND DID NOT DOCUMENT ANYTHING. ON 4-28-06 THE SERVICE ENGINE CAME ON EARLY MORNING, AND I HEARD A TICKING SOUND FROM ENGINE. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE SERVICE DEPT. AT THE SAME TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, THE SERVICE ADVISOR TOLD ME TO BRING THE CAR IN SINCE I WAS A FEW BLOCKS AWAY. I ARRIVED 10 MINUTES LATER, AND THERE WAS FLUID STARTING TO RUN OUT AND STEAM STARTING TO COME FROM MY HOOD. THE TECHNICIAN CHECKED THE CAR OUT, AND SAID THAT THE WATER PUMP WENT OUT, AND THE ENGINE BLOCK WAS DAMAGED ALSO. HE EXPLAINED THESE THINGS CAN HAPPEN PRETTY QUICK. I PURCHASED THE CAR WITH TOYOTA EXTRA WARRANTY, AND MPP EXTENDED WARRANTY, AND MY VEHICLE IS WITHIN THE WARRANTY PERIODS FOR BOTH, AND BOTH COVER THE DAMAGED PARTS. BUT, TOYOTA REFUSES TO FIX THE ISSUE BECAUSE THEY WONT TO PUT NEGLECT ON THE DRIVER. WHEN THE DEALERSHIP ADMITS ON PAPER TO THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU OF INDIANA, THAT THE DRIVER MADE AN HONEST EFFORT TO GET THIS CAR IN FOR SERVICING, AND THAT THE CONDITION OF THE CAR BEFORE BREAKDOWN WAS REALLY GOOD. *NM

THROTTLE LAG AT LOW SPEED AND FROM STOP IS INCONSISTENT AND HAS BEEN THE CAUSE FOR SEVERAL CLOSE CALLS WHEN PULLING INTO TRAFFIC. SOME INSTANCES HAVE BEEN SEVERAL SECONDS BEFORE ACTUAL THROTTLE RESPONSE. DRIVER HAS TO USE HARDER ACCELERATION TO COMPENSATE WHEN THIS HAPPENS. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT TOYOTA IS AWARE OF BUT DECLINES TO ADMIT IT IS A PROBLEM. DRIVER IS VERY CONCERNED THAT THIS ISSUE WILL BE CAUSE OF AN ACCIDENT. WAS PROVIDED SUPPOSED "UPDATE" TO CAR COMPUTER, BUT SAME PROBLEM EXISTS. DEALERSHIP STATED THAT "UPDATE" DOES NOT HELP ENTIRELY. *NM

SUDDEN ACCELERATION OF OUR 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY XLE AFTER SLOWING DOWN AND MAKING A 100 DEGREE RIGHT TURN INTO THE GARAGE. THE CAR ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN FOR 90 FEET, SIDE-SWIPED OUR JEEP PARKED IN THE GARAGE, AND THEN TOOK OUT THE LOAD BEARING WALL AT THE REAR RIGHT OF THE GARAGE. CAR HAS 16K MILES ON IT AND HAS BEEN GARAGED AT ALL TIMES. INSURANCE ADJUSTER SAYS THERE APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM, BUT CANNOT FIGURE IT OUT SINCE THIS IS CAR RELIES ON ELECTRONIC CONTROL THROUGHOUT. *NM
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SLIPS AND VIBRATES WHEN SHIFTING BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND GEARS. OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY. DEALER CAN'T FIND PROBLEM. DANGEROUS WHEN ENTERING TRAFFIC. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED FOR 8 HOURS IN 70 DEGREE SUNNY WEATHER, AND THE SPARE TIRE IN THE TRUNK OVER INFLATED AND BURST. THE SPARE TIRE WAS USED 2 WEEKS PRIOR WITH NO PROBLEMS. THE TIRE INCIDENT CAUSED ONLY MINOR DAMAGE TO THE TRUNK; HOWEVER THE AUDIO SPEAKERS WERE DESTROYED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WITHOUT WARNING, THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT QUIT WORKING. THE BUCKLE WILL NO LONGER LOCK INTO THE BUCKLE ASSEMBLY. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE BUCKLE ASSEMBLY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.
STEERING KNUCKLE DEFECTIVE ON 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY. PROVIDES A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. PROBLEM HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR TWO WEEKS. NOW AFTER TAKING IT TO AN OFFICIAL TOYOTA DEALER REPAIR SHOP, PROBLEM STILL NOT FIXED. NOW AT LEAST TWO WEEK TO A MONTH WAIT ON PART. WAS TOLD WE WERE NUMBER 536 ON WAITING LIST, AND WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE IN SHORT TERM, BUT DO NOT BELIEVE THAT. STEERING IS LOOSE, AND A CATCH OCCURS IN STEERING. PASSENGER CAN EVEN FEEL WHEN THIS OCCURS. DEALER HAS REPORTED THREE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS WITH OTHER CAMRYS IN THE SAME WEEK. *NM
TL* - THE CONTACT HEARD A CLANKING NOISE WHILE DRIVING. .THIS HAPPENED WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL LEFT OR RIGHT, WHETHER THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN OR STANDING STILL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN WILL NOT ADJUST, AND THE WHEEL LEANED A LITTLE TO THE LEFT. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER , AND THEY DID NOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM, BUT GAVE HIM AN ESTIMATE OF WHAT IT WOULD COST TO REPAIR THE STEERING FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED HE HAS BEEN HEARING THE CLANKING NOISE EVERY SINCE HE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE BACK IN DECEMBER 2004, BUT THE NOISE WAS GETTING WORSE. *AK UPDATED 01/30/07. *JB
O2 SENSORS FAILED DUE TO RODENTS OR RABBITS CHEWING THE PLASTIC WIRING HOUSING THE INTERNAL ELECTRICAL WIRES. O2 SENSORS HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF ABOUT $600. THE OUTSIDE COATINGS OR SHEATHS FOR THE WIRING IS MADE OF A SOY BASED PLASTIC, AND POSSIBLY CONTAINING A "FISH OIL" IN THE SHEATH, WHICH ATTRACTS RODENTS AND RABBITS, AND THEY CHEW ON THE PLASTIC WIRE COVERINGS, THEREBY DESTROYING THE O2 SENSOR'S WIRING MECHANISM. THIS PROBLEM IS PREVALENT IN THE DENVER AND MOUNTAIN STATES AREAS AND SHOULD BE CORRECTED AS THE PROBLEM COULD LEAD TO ENGINE FIRES OR ENGINE FAILURES. THE WIRING HOUSING SHOULD BE CHANGED TO A "RETARDANT" TYPE OF WIRING TO PREVENT OTHER INCIDENTS OF THIS PROBLEM, AND NOT JUST FOR TOYOTA BUT FOR ALL MANUFACTURERS. *NM
I HAVE SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERNS WITH THE WAY MY CAR CONSISTENTLY LAGS BEFORE ACCELERATING. THIS HESITATION HAS BEEN CONSISTENT FROM DAY ONE OF MY OWNERSHIP (PURCHASED DEALER NEW). WHEN THE CAR IS IN MOTION, OR AT A STOP, ANY TYPE OF IMMEDIATE PUSH OF THE GAS PEDAL WILL RESULT IN A DELAYED/SLOW RESPONSE TO PICK UP SPEED. THIS DELAY HAS NEARLY CAUSED (2)TWO ACCIDENTS UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS: (1)ACCELERATING TO GET ONTO FREEWAY. (2)ACCELERATING TO AVOID AN ERRANT LANE CHANGE FROM A NEARBY CAR. *JB
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS STUCK. SHE WAS PULLING OUT ONTO THE ROAD. AS SHE LIGHTLY PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL THE VEHICLE WENT ACROSS THE ROAD AND CRASHED INTO A METAL POLE. THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WAS PUSHED UNDERNEATH THE WINDSHIELD. THE CONTACT WAS WEARING THE SEAT BELT. THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. HOWEVER, SHE WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL WITH CHEST PAINS AND BRUISING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP FOR INSPECTION. A REPRESENTATIVE FROM THE MANUFACTURER WAS COMING TO THE REPAIR SHOP TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE INCIDENT. I WAS PULLING INTO APARTMENT COMPLEX PARKING SPACE WHEN MY 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND SURGED FORWARD. I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND WAS HALF WAY IN THE SPOT WHEN THE CAR BEGAN TO SURGE FORWARD AND JUMPED OVER SIDEWAY PLOWING INTO APARTMENT BUILDING. I WAS PRESSING THE BRAKE ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND THE TIRES WERE SCREECHING, BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP UNTIL IT HIT THE BUILDING WALL. THE CAR WILL BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP TODAY FOR AN ESTIMATE. THERE WAS SEVERE DAMAGE TO THE APARTMENT BUILDING. *JB

WHILE MAKING A TURN AT APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD CLICKING NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN FOLLOWED BY A SHAKING SENSATION. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY. THE STEERING COLUMN WAS REPLACED UNDER THE SERVICE WARRANTY. ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS, THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR IDENTICAL FAILURES. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,944 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 72,000.

BECAUSE WHEN THE CONSUMER GOES TO PRESS ON THE BRAKE T WILL ACCIDENTALLY HIT THE GAS PEDAL. THE CONSUMER WAS SO SURPRISED EVERY TIME THIS OCCURRED THAT SHE WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE UNTIL SHE HIT SOMETHING. THREE TIMES THIS OCCURRED. THE CONSUMER WAS TRYING TO STOP IT WHILE BETWEEN OTHER VEHICLES. THE CONSUMER WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL IN MAY 2005. SHE OBTAINED INJURIES BECAUSE OF THIS ACCIDENT. A POLICE REPORTS WERE TAKEN. ON 8-17-05 THE CONSUMER HIT A LIGHT POLE. PREVIOUSLY, THE CONSUMER HAD CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, AND RECEIVED NO ASSISTANCE FROM THEM. PROBLEM: 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY SHIFT GEAR FROM OVERDRIVE TO NEUTRAL WITHOUT PRESSING GEAR BUTTON. OVER THE WEEKEND, I WAS DRIVING THE CAR GOING UPHILL WITH LEFT TURN, THE PASSENGER AT FRONT WAS TRYING TO REACH NAPKIN BOX AT THE BACK SEAT, HE ACCIDENTALLY HIT THE GEAR WITH HIS ELBOW, EVEN THOUGH VERY LIGHTLY, THE SHIFT GEAR SUDDENLY SHIFTED FROM OVERDRIVE TO NEUTRAL GEAR WHILE I WAS MAKING LEFT TURN UPHILL AND SUDDENLY LOST POWER. I HAVE FORD TAURUS THAT DOES NOT HAVE SUCH PROBLEM. IT ALWAYS REQUIRES PRESSING THE GEAR BUTTON TO SHIFT GEAR. I SINCERELY REQUEST TOYOTA MANUFACTURER TO FIX CURRENT DESIGN FLAW TO PREVENT FUTURE ACCIDENTS. *JB
DT: CONSUMER OWNS 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY WITH V6 ENGINE. CONSUMER WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND SHOT THROUGH THE PARKING SPOT, STRIKING A METAL POST, AND DAMAGING THE PASSENGER'S FRONT OF VEHICLE, THE BUMPER , FRONT FENDER, AND BOTH PASSENGER DOORS. WHEN THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED CONSUMER FELT THAT ACCELERATOR PEDAL LEFT THE BOTTOM OF FOOT AND CONTINUED TO THE FLOORBOARD WITH NO ASSISTANCE. THIS HAPPENED ON AUGUST 6, 2005 AT ABOUT 7:30 PM IN LOUISVILLE, AT TOWN FAIR CENTER ON HURSTBOURN LANE. CONSUMER WENT TO DEALER, AND DEALER REFUSED TO LOOK AT VEHICLE, THEY SAID THAT THEY WERE NOT FAMILIAR WITH ANY PROBLEM LIKE THIS, AND TOLD CONSUMER THAT THE FLOOR MAT STUCK TO THE PEDAL , CAUSING THE ACCELERATION. THERE WAS NO POLICE REPORT. MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND SAID THEY OPENED A CASE AND DEALER WAS SUPPOSE TO CONTACT CONSUMER IN ABOUT 3 DAYS.*AK *JB

CHARCOAL CANISTER FAILED AT 13058 MILES. PARTS AND LABOR UNDER WARRANTY, HOWEVER, OUT OF WARRANTY COST WOULD HAVE BEEN AT ABOUT $500. KNOWN ISSUE FOR TOYOTA AS SERVICE BULLETIN ISSUED. DEALER RECOMMENDED TO PURCHASE EXTENDED SERVICE PLAN TO COVER COMPONENT AFTER ORIGINAL WARRANTY EXPIRES. PARTS AND LABOR SHOULD BE COVERED FOR THIS COMPONENT AFTER ORIGINAL WARRANTY EXPIRES AS ISSUE IS KNOWN TO TOYOTA AND HAS FAILED IN ENOUGH NEW CARS TO ISSUE A SERVICE BULLETIN. DT: CALLER'S MOTHER-IN-LAW JUST GOT HER CAR WASHED AND WHEN SHE PULLED OUT OF THE CAR WASH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. SHE PUMPED THE BRAKES AND TRIED TO STOP THE CAR, AND IT WOULD NOT STOP. THE CAR WENT INTO AN 8 LANE HIGHWAY AND WAS HIT BY AN 18 WHEELER AND A PICKUP TRUCK. DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES AND SO DID THE DRIVER OF THE PICKUP TRUCK, TRACTOR TRAILER DRIVER REFUSED TREATMENT. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED, AND WILL BE GETTING BACK TO CALLER. CALLER STATED SHE JUST FOUND OUT THAT IN THE SPRING HER MOTHER-IN-LAW STARTED THE VEHICLE AND THE ENGINE RACED WHILE IT WAS IN PARK. THE ONLY WAY TO STOP IT WAS TO TURN IT OFF. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 49,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 10,000.
