I PURCHASED A 2004 TOYOTA SOLARA SLE V6 FROM SUPERSTITIONS SPRINGS TOYOTA IN ARIZONA JUST OVER 24 HOURS AGO. WHEN I STARTED TO DRIVE IT YESTERDAY I ALMOST GOT IN A BAD ACCIDENT ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN SOMEONE STARTED TO PULL OVER ON ME. I HIT THE GAS PEDAL AND WENT NOWHERE FOR AT LEAST 1-2 SECONDS. THANK GOD THE GUY HEARD MY HORN. I WENT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID 'THEY COULD FEEL IT TOO' BUT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. I HAD READ A CUSTOMER COMMENT ABOUT THE PROBLEM JUST ONCE AND THERE WAS A REPLY THAT SAID THERE WAS SOME DOWNLOAD FOR IT. WHEN I MENTIONED THIS TO THE SERVICE DEPT. THEY SAID THEY CHECKED AND THERE WERE NO DOWNLOADS FOR IT. TOLD ME THAT IT WAS OPERATING AS IT SHOULD AND THERE WOULD BE SOME HESITATION, THEN STARTED IN ON SOME ENGINEERING EXPLANATION, AND SAID THEY HAVE SOME SPECIALIST COME IN ONCE A MONTH FROM TOYOTA AND HE WOULD ASK HIM ABOUT THIS ISSUE. I TRIED TO REITERATE THAT THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED NOW, BUT GOT NO DIFFERENT REPLY. I HAD NOTED SOME SLIGHT HESITATION WHEN I WAS TEST DRIVING IT, BUT REALLY DIDN'T NOTICE ANY APPRECIABLE HESITATION WHEN I VERY BRIEFLY HAD IT ON EXPRESSWAY DRIVE (ONLY ALLOWED ABOUT A 1/2 MILE THEN TOLD TO TURN OFF). HOWEVER YESTERDAY WHEN I FINALLY DROVE IT, I STARTED TO FEEL LIKE I WAS GETTING WHIPLASH FROM THE HESITATION, LUNGING AND JERKING AROUND, AND THEN I ALMOST GOT IN A BAD ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF IT. NOW I AM STUCK WITH A CAR I DON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE DRIVING AND HAVE A HUGE LOAN HANGING OVER MY HEAD TO BOOT. I GUESS I WILL JUST DRIVE IT AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE SO I DON'T GET KILLED DUE TO AN 'ENGINEERING PROBLEM' AND THEN GET RID OF IT AS SOON AS I CAN. I WILL NEVER BUY A TOYOTA AGAIN. BIG MISTAKE. 2004 CAMRY BRAKE FLUID LEAK. *TR
TIRES TREAD WORE BELOW LEGAL DEPTH PRIOR TO 20,000 MILES ON THE TIRES, CREATING A HAZARD WHICH CAUSE MY DAUGHTER TO HYDROPLAIN ON ALMOST DRY ROAD - CAR WENT INTO A GRASS MEDIAN TAKING OUT A SIGN AND MUCH DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. THIS WAS ON A 2004 CAMRY THAT WAS PURCHASED NEW - JUST HAD IT IN TO THE DEALER FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND THEY ROTATED THE TIRES - NEVER MENTIONED THE WEAR ON THE TIRES. WHEN THE TIRES WERE EVALUATED AT THE TIRE DEALERSHIP - IT WAS NOT DUE TO IMPROPER AIR PRESSURE OR ALIGNMENT - THE WEAR WAS ALL OVER THE TIRE. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA SOLARA. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED, THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL HAD A SMALL CRACK ON IT. THE CRACKED EXPANDED THROUGH OUT THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL AND HAD EXTENDED NEAR THE AIR BAG. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE AIR BAG COULD PREMATURELY DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PANEL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED SINCE IT COULD NOT BE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 49,496.
(1) MERGING ONTO HIGHWAY AFTER SLOWING DOWN A BIT ON AN EXIT RAMP. (2) HESITATION IN ACCELERATION - CAR ACTUALLY SLOWS DRAMATICALLY INSTEAD OF ACCELERATING. (3) ATTEMPTED TO EXERCISE WARRANTY AND THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT REPAIR. ATTEMPTED ARBITRATION AND THAT FAILED ALSO. NOTE THAT THIS PROBLEM OCCURS REGULARLY. THE DEALER TECHNICIAN CLAIMS THE CAR SHIFTS INTO NEUTRAL WHEN BRAKING AND THEN NEEDS TO SHIFT BACK INTO GEAR WHEN ACCELERATING AND THE PERFORMANCE IS TYPICAL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE HAD EXPERIENCED VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEMS THREE TIMES. THE FIRST OCCURRENCE WAS ON A DRY SUNNY DAY TRAVELLING ABOUT 25 MPH. THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. SHE WAS ABLE TO STOP THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION WITHOUT INCIDENT.THE SECOND INCIDENT ALSO INVOLVED UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED AND SHE WAS ABLE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP. ON THE THIRD OCCASION, WHILE ENTERING A PARKING LOT, THE VEHICLE BEGAN ACCELERATING AND THE BRAKES WERE IMMEDIATELY APPLIED. THE VEHICLE BEGAN JERKING AND ACCELERATED BACKWARD INTO THE ROADWAY. THE VEHICLE THEN LUNGED AND ACCELERATED FORWARD, BACK INTO THE PARKING LOT, AND PROCEEDED TO CRASH INTO A CONCRETE BARRIER. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED FRONT END DAMAGE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON HER VEHICLE. RECENTLY I BROUGHT MY 04 CAMRY TO MY DEALER BECAUSE OF SULFUR SMELL AND RATTLE AT LIGHT ACCELERATION. THE DEALER VERIFIED THE PROBLEMS AND REPLACED THE CONVERTER AND INTAKE MANIFOLD ACCORDING TO THE TSBS. THEY SAID THEY ALSO HAD TO RE-PROGRAM THE ECM. THEN AFTER I PICKED UP THE CAR, I FOUND EVERYTHING IS HARDER: THE ACCELERATION, STEERING, AND BRAKING. I FOUND IT IS HARD TO MAINTAIN A SPEED WHETHER ON LOCAL OR HIGHWAY. ON MAY 28,2005, WHILE I DROVE THE CAR ON HIGHWAY WITH 4 PERSONS SITTING IN THE CAR (INCLUDING ME), I FOUND THE STEERING WAS VERY HARD AND FELTED LIKE IT WAS LOCKED, AND I FOUND IT IS VERY HARD TO ACCELERATE TO HWY SPEED AND HARD TO MAINTAIN IT. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER AGAIN ON MAY 31. AFTER HAVING A TECHNICIAN TEST DROVE IT, THEY TOLD ME IT WAS SIMILAR TO OTHER CAMRYS (NORMAL) AND WOULDN'T WANT TO SOLVE MY PROBLEM. I BELIEVE THEY NEVER TRIED TO REPRODUCE MY PROBLEM (BY HAVING MORE PEOPLE SITTING IN THE CAR). I THINK THIS PROBLEM IS A SAFTY ISSUE SO I FILE COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA. I ALSO FEEL THE CAR DOESN'T SHIFT RIGHT AND ENGINE IS NOISER AFTER THE CONVERT/INTAKE CHANGE AND RE-PROGRAMMING.
DT: CONSUMER BOUGHT A NEW TOYOTA CAMRY IN 2004. THE SALESMAN REPRESENTED THE TIRES AT 50,000 MILES WITH NO PROBLEMS. IN ONE YEAR, THE TIRE HAD LESS THAN 21,000 MILES AND ALL FOUR WERE BALD. THERE IS A NEED FOR 4 NEW TIRES. CONSUMER CALLED TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THAT THEIR TIRES ONLY HAD 20-30,000 MILES ON TIRES. CONSUMER HAD BEEN DRIVING WITH GRANDCHILDREN IN CAR ON THOSE SUPPOSEDLY 50,000 MILE TIRES THINKING THEY HAD LONGER WEAR. VEHICLE NOW NEEDS ALL NEW TIRES AFTER ONE YEAR AND LESS THAN 21,000 MILES. CONSUMER TOOK A TRIP TO FLORIDA @ 14,000 MILES AND AFTER PICKING UP A TACK WENT TO DEALER TO GET REPAIRED AND SERVICE DEALER NOTED THERE WAS UNEVEN WEAR ON TIRES. CALLED TOYOTA AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD TAKE 3-5 DAYS. TOOK TO FIRESTONE INSTEAD WHO ROTATED TIRES AND SAID THE TIRES WERE NORMAL. YESTERDAY WAS TOLD THE TIRES WERE READY TO BLOW, THE STEEL BELTS WERE ABOUT TO COME. *TT
AFTER DRIVING 1 YEAR ( ABOUT 10000MILES) THE BRAKE FLUID KEPT LOOSING FROM MAX TO MIN LEVEL WITHIN 100 TO 200 MILES DRIVING.TOYOTA HAD RECALLED 2004 TO 2006 AVALON, HIGHLANDER, LEXUS GS 300, & LEXUS IS 250 NO CAMRY.I REPORTED TO NHTSA & TOYOTA AND NO ANSWER. FOR SAFETY CONCERN PLEASE DO YOUR BEST TO HELP CONSUMERS TO AVOID THE ACCIDENTS MAY OCCUR. THANKS *TR
DT: 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY. ON THREE OCCASIONS AT A STOP LIGHT THE ENGINE ROARED WHILE THE CONSUMER'S FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE. THE VEHICLE ACTUALLY LURCHED FORWARD WHEN THIS HAPPENED.THE CONSUMER HAD TO PRESS THE BRAKES AS HARD AS POSSIBLE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE INSPECTED. THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. ON ONE OCCASION HE TRIED TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND IT WENT INTO REVERSE. *AK *JB
DT: 5/8/05 10:15 AM AT A STOPLIGHT VEHICLE WAS STOPPED. THEN THE CAR ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN AND HIT CAR IN FRONT. CAR VEERED TO LEFT. KEY HAD TO BE REMOVED IN ORDER TO STOP THE CAR. ALL BRAKES FAILED. REGULARLY SERVICED AND RECORDS AVAILABLE.*AK NO PREVIOUS PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLE EVER.
2004 TOYOTA SOLARA EXPERIENCING STALLING OR LONG HESITATION WHEN THE VEHICLE'S SPEED IS BELOW 25 MPH AND THE CONSUMER ATTEMPTS TO ACCELERATE.*MR THIS OFTEN HAPPENS WHEN ENTERING FAST MOVING TRAFFIC FROM ENTRANCE RAMP ONTO THE EXPRESSWAY. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THIS WAS A CHARACTERISTIC OF THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION AND CANNOT BE CORRECTED. *BF *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TURNING INTO THE DRIVEWAY AT 10 MPH THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD JUMPED THE CURB AND CRASHED INTO SEVERAL SCRUBS. THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING. THERE WAS PRE IMPACT BRAKING. SEAT BELTS WERE IN USE HOWEVER INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY PRIOR TO BEING TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT AUTO SHOP FOR REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE HAD MAJOR DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END AND THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHAT CAUSED THIS INCIDENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED.
ON APRIL 26, 2005, MY DAUGHTER DRIVING A 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY LE (V6) REAR-ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE (AN ACURA) AT AN SPEED OF 50+ MPH AND NONE OF THE AIRBAGS IN THE CAMRY WERE DEPLOYED. DRIVERS OF BOTH CARS WERE TAKEN TO HOSPITAL FOR FURTHER EVALUATION. LATER, I CONTACTED TOYOTA CORP. WHICH HAD ONE OF ITS INSPECTOR INSPECT THE WRECKED VEHICLE AND DETERMINED "THE AIRBAGS OPERATED AS DESIGNED." I HAVE REQUESTED ON AT LEAST TWO OCCASIONS A COPY OF THE INSPECTION REPORT AND OTHER RELATED DOCUMENTS AND MEMOS FROM TOYOTA CORP AND THEY HAVE REFUSED TO PROVIDE ME WITH THE REQUESTED DOCUMENTS. IN A MAY 16, 2005, LETTER SENT TO ME BY TOYOTA, THEY HAVE STATED THAT "THE SRS AIRBAGS ARE NOT DESIGNED TO INFLATE IF THE VEHICLE IS SUBJECTED TO A REAR IMPACT, IF IT ROLLS OVER OR IF IT IS INVOLVED IN A LOW SPEED FRONTAL COLLISION." IN REALITY, OUR CAMRY WAS NOT REAR-ENDED, DID NOT ROLL OVER, AND HAD A HIGH SPEED FRONTAL COLLISION OF 50+MPH.
CONTACT STATES: MANUAL TRANSMISSION, GOING 50 MPH WITH NO POWER. SPEED DROPS AND THERE IS NO ACCELERATION. LAST A COUPLE OF SECONDS ANYWHERE 10 TO 30 SECONDS IT PICKS BACK UP. NOTICED ABOUT A WEEK AGO. NORMAL DRIVE HAPPENING ANYTIME. HAVEN'T NOTICED IT BEFORE 50 MPH. SPEED DROPS BUT HASN'T CHANGED SPEED WITH ACCELERATOR WITH STILL APPLYING PRESSURE ON ACCELERATOR. NOTICED THIS HAPPENING FOR ABOUT A WEEK. *AK
I HEARD AND FELT A NOISE ON MY STEERING WHEEL ON MY 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY AN WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THEY SAID THAT I NEEDED A STEERING SHAFT/INTERMEDIATE SHAFT. I HAPPENED TO CHECK THE WEB AND FOUND THAT OTHER PEOPLE WERE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND THAT THERE WAS A TSB ON THIS PROBLEM. ALSO THAT THERE WAS A NEW SHAFT MADE TO REMEDY THIS SITUATION. I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WHICH IN TURN HAD THE DEALER CONTACT ME. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT THEY COULD NOT FIX IT SINCE IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. HE SAID THAT IF IT HAD 39,000 MILES THEY WOULD PROBABLY REPAIR BUT SINCE I HAD 60,000 THEY WOULD NOT. HE DID OFFERED ME A GOODWILL GESTURE OF 15% OFF THE COST. MY CONTENTION IS THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN ISSUED, AND SINCE THIS HAS TO DO WITH A SAFETY ISSUE SUCH AS THE STEERING WHY WASN'T SOMETHING DONE BEFORE HAVING COME TO THIS. THE CAR RUNS OUT OF WARRANTY AND PEOPLE HAVE TO PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT THEY KNEW ABOUT AND IS A SAFETY ISSUE I ALSO TOOK IT TO AN INDEPENDENT AUTOMOBILE REPAIR SHOP TO SEE WHAT THEY THOUGHT AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY BELIEVE THAT THE NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE SHAFT AND STEERING GEAR BOX. THEY DID REPAIR A VEHICLE OF SOMEONE WHO 'S CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY BUT ONLY A FEW HUNDRED MILES OVER THE EXPIRATION OF THE WARRANTY. *JB
I PURCHASED A NEW TOYOTA CAMRY IN 2004. ON THE MORNING OF 4/2/2005, I TOOK MY DAUGHTER TO HER ORTHODONTIST APPOINTMENT. ON MY WAY BACK, I FIRST MADE A STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT BEFORE MAKING A LEFT TURN TO GET ON A PARKWAY. I DID NOT NOTICE ANYTHING UNUSUAL. A FEW MINUTES LATER, WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO SLOW DOWN IN ANTICIPATION OF THE END OF THE PARKWAY AND THE TRAFFIC LIGHT AT THE INTERSECTION, I NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE WAS NOT WORKING. I TRIED SQUEEZING (TO THE FLOOR) AND TAPPING. I HAD NO EFFECT. THERE WAS NO ACCELERATION (KEPT THE SAME SPEED). BY THE TIME I REACHED THE INTERSECTION, THE LIGHT WAS RED AND ALL THREE LANES HAD VEHICLES IN FRONT OF ME. I STEERED MY CAR BETWEEN TWO LANES TO GET THROUGH THE TRAFFIC (WITH ONLY THE MIRRORS SCRAPED OFF). ONCE THE TRAFFIC WAS BEHIND ME, I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE RIGHT TO GRIND AGAINST THE CURB WHICH BROUGHT IT TO A HALT. THE VEHICLE WAS PRONOUNCED TOTAL. THREE OTHER VEHICLES WERE AFFECTED WITH VARYING DEGREES OF DAMAGE (DUE TO DIRECT IMPACT ON THE SIDE OR REACTION TO THE SUDDEN TRAFFIC MOVEMENT). I INFORMED TOYOTA AND REQUESTED THEIR INSPECTION. TOYOTA LATER RESPONDED STATING THAT THEY FOUND NO "DESIGN OR MANUFACTURING DEFECT". I AM NOT SURE IF THEY TOOK MY REPORT SERIOUSLY. THEY MAY HAVE LOST THE OPPORTUNITY TO INVESTIGATE A POTENTIAL PROBLEM. *TR
CAR WAS PARKED IN DRIVEWAY FOR 2 DAYS ON MARCH 31 AND APRIL 1 DURING A DRIVING RAIN STORM CAR WAS NOT DRIVEN FOR 2 DAYS. ON FRIDAY AFTERNOON APRIL 1 AT 3:3 PM OPENED CAR DOOR AND DRIVER'S SIDE FLOOR AND CARPETING WAS WET FROM GAS PEDAL UNDER SEAT TO BACK SEAT. TOYOTA SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG AND I MUST HAVE DRIVEN IN HIGH WATER OR PARKED WHERE MY CAR COULD FLOOD. FIRST OF ALL CAR WASN'T UNDER WATER IN MY DRIVEWAY, IF THAT WAS THE CASE, MY ENTIRE CAR WOULD BE FLOODED, NOT JUST DRIVERS SIDE FLOORBOARD, AND MY HOUSE WOULD BE UNDER WATER. SECOND OF ALL ,IF I HAD DRIVEN IN HIGH WATER BOTH SIDES OF FLOOR BOARD WOULD BE WET. NOT JUST DRIVERS SIDE. ON MARCH 30TH DAY BEFORE THE STORM MY CAR CAME FROM TOYOTA SHOP FROM GETTING A STEERING SHAFT PUT IN THE CAR. MAKES ME WONDER IF THEY DIDN'T SEAL SOMETHING UP AROUND THE FIREWALL, ANYWAY THEY ARE REFUSING TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THIS CAR, IS LEAKING ON JUST THE DRIVERS SIDE FLOORBOARD. ALSO BAD RATTLES IN B PILLARS. *AK

WHEN ATTEMPTING TO LEAVE PARKING SPACE MY 2004 CAMERY V6 WITH BRAKE DEPRESSED CAR CAR ACCELERATED WITH VERY HIGH RPM. COULD NOT STOP THE CAR HITTING A GMC TRUCK. WHEN CAR COULD NOT MOVE THE TRUCK IT STOPPED.DROVE HOME WITH NO PROBLEM. CALLED DEALER THEY STATED IF THE CAR WAS NOT HAVING THE PROBLEM NOW THEY COULDN'T FIX IT . AFTER DRIVING IT MY HUSBAND HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND DIDN'T WANT THE CAR BACK UNTIL THE PROBLEM WAS CORRECTED. DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM. RETURNED CAR AFTER STATING THEY WOULD START FILE . *AK
VEHICLE HAS PULLED LEFT EVER SINCE THE TIRES WERE ROTATED FOR THE FIRST TIME. I'VE HAD IT BACK TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES, WITH THEM SHOWING ME THAT THE ALIGNMENT FALLS WITHIN SPECS, AND ATTRIBUTING THE PULL TO ROAD CROWN. I JUST HAD MY 30K MILE SERVICE, AND THEY CALLED TO LET ME KNOW THAT MY TIRES ARE WEARING UNEVENLY BECAUSE OF ALIGNMENT ISSUES. ON 2/17/05 I WAS TRAVELING SOUTH @50MPH ON A 4 LANE HIGHWAY. A DODGE RAM P/U TRUCK TURNED IN FRONT OF ME AT AN INTERSECTION. I RAN INTO THE SIDE OF THE TRUCK GOING AT LEAST 35 MPH. THE POINT OF CONTACT WAS A FULL FRONTAL IMPACT THAT RESULTED IN AN INOPERABLE VEHICLE THAT WAS TOWED FROM THE SCENE OF THE ACCIDIENT. POLICE REPORT LISTED THE VEHICLE AS TOTALED. THE FRONT AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE FRONT LEFT AIRBAG SENSOR LOCATED ON THE FRAME WAS SHEARED FROM THE WIRING ASSEMBLY. I WAS TRANSPORTED FROM THE ACCIDENT IN AN AMBULANCE. MY MOUTH AND THEN MY CHEST HIT THE STEERING WHEEL. MY HEAD ALSO HIT THE WINDSHIELD. I HAVE EXPERIENCED A NUMBER OF PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING OF MY 2004 TOYOTA SOLARA SPORT COUPE WITH THE V6 MOTOR. THIS CAR CONSISTENTLY PULLS TO THE LEFT. WE HAVE SLID THROUGH SEVERAL STOP SIGNS AND INTERSECTIONS. THESE TIRES ARE TOUTED AS "ALL-SEASON" BUT WHEN WE CALLED GOODYEAR THEY SAID THAT THEY WEREN'T INTENDED TO BE DRIVEN IN THE SNOW.
