TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE, THE STEERING WAS UNEASY, AND THE RIDE WAS BUMPY. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND NOTICED THAT THE TREAD DETACHED FROM THE TIRE. THE CONTACT CHANGED THE TIRE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE DEALER AND BRIDGESTONE WERE NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 20,048. THE CONSUMER STATED THIS IS THE 2ND TIME TREAD DETACHED FROM THE TIRE. UPDATED 05/23/07 *TR
2005 CAMRY CUSTOMER STATES THAT HE FELT SURGES FROM DRIVING THE CAR**NAR**CC THE CONSUMER STATED WHENEVER SHE SLOWS DOWN AND ACCELERATE, OR CHANGE LANES THE VEHICLE THROWS HER BACK AND FORTH AT TIMES. *JB
I OWN A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY 4 CYL. LE. THIS CAR CAME WITH GOODYEAR INTEGRITY TIRES. 205 65 R 15. THE TIRES FAILED AT 31,728 MILES. ONE SIDEWALL BLEW OUT A 3 INCH HOLE AND THE OTHER TIRE HAD TREAD SEPARATION. THE SIDEWALL WAS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR SEAT. THE OTHER TIRE WAS ON THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT, AND HAD TREAD SEPARATION. THERE WAS ONLY ONE PERSON IN THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME. *JB
MY 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY ACCELERATED SUDDENLY IN 2007. I SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES TO AVOID HITTING THE CONCRETE MEDIAN ON THE FREEWAY. THE CAR WENT INTO A SPIN AND STOPPED. THE TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT SO NO ONE WAS HURT. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER IN BURIEN, WA. THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR AND GAVE ME A WRITTEN REPORT SAYING THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO VERIFY THE CONCERN. I WANT TO REPORT THIS EVENT SO THAT IT CAN BE INCLUDED IN THE INFORMATION THAT IS BEING GATHERED REGARDING SUDDEN ACCELERATION IN TOYOTA CAMRYS. THIS IS A 2005 SO TOYOTA NEEDS TO EXPAND THEIR PARAMETERS TO INCLUDE MY CAR. *TR
WHILE MY 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY WAS IN DRIVE, WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, SITTING STILL, WAITING FOR MY WIFE TO GET IN THE CAR, THE CAR REVVED TO MAX RPMS WITH NO CHANGE OF MY FOOT POSITION. MY FOOT PRESSING FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE WAS NOT ENOUGH TO KEEP THE CAR FROM ACCELERATING FORWARD. I PUMPED THE BRAKE ONCE AT THIS POINT AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE STOP. I THEN JAMMED THE VEHICLE IN PARK, JUST BEFORE COLLISION. THE GAS PEDAL DID NOT MOVE DURING THIS INCIDENT. I REPORTED IT TO TOYOTA AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE SORRY THAT MY FLOOR MAT HAD CAUSED A PROBLEM??? RE: INCIDENT: 090929-000573. *TR
1 - SEAT BELT - GETS STUCK , CAUSING IT TO BE INOPERABLE AND FLOPPY. THE PLASTIC GUIDE ALLOWS THE WEBBING BELT TO GET STUCK IN IT. 2 - I CANNOT BUY REPLACE THE BELT , AN IMPORTANT , COMMON , INEXPENSIVE ITEM , FROM ANYONE, BUT THE DEALER $200 + $100 LABOR. I CAN PURCHASE LAP BELT FOR $15, BUT THAT IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH AND DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. GOOD DESIGN FOR THE MANUFACTURER , CHEAP BECAUSE RIGHTWAS SAME AS LEFT , BUT POOR DESIGN FOR ME AS IT CASUSED BELT TO BE WORN AND GET STUCK . CAR WAS 2005, BUT HAS 65000 SO NO MORE WARRANTY . -MAYBE THERE SHOULD BE FOR ALL CAR MAKERS , EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR CERTAIN ITEMS THAT WEAR OUT OVER TIME , SAFETY ITEMS LIKE SEAT BELTS , THAT WEAR OUT OVER TIME , 36 MONTHS 3 YEARS , MOSTLY DUE TO POOR DESIGN . *AK
THE 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY WITH JUST OVER 40,000 MILES ON IT ALL OF A SUDDEND DIED WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE ROAD. I WAS FORCED TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND RESTART IT. THIS OCCURED EVERY TIME I ACCELERATED AFTER THE INITIAL INCIDENT. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP ,AND THEY REPORTED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY AND ACTUATOR WERE STUCK. I HAD OIL CHANGED AS THE MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDED, AND FELT THAT THIS WAS A PROBLEM THAT A TWO YEAR OLD CAR SHOULD NOT BE HAVING. I WAS FORCED TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY AND ACTUATOR AT MY OWN EXPENSE AS THEWARRANTY EXPIRED APPROXIMATELY 5,000 MILES PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT.*AK
TL* -THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY BETWEEN 60-65 UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS, PROCEEDING TO A COMPLETE STOP. THERE WAS A SUDDEN ACCELERATION. IMMEDIATELY, PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE OPERATION. THE IDENTICAL FAILURES OCCURRED ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED FOR THE MALFUNCTION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,000. THE STEERING ON MY TOYOTA CAMRY LE 2005 MAKES A PERSISTENT CLUNKING NOISE. WE HAVE NOT HAND ANY INJURIES BUT ARE SCARED TO TAKE THIS CAR ON THE ROAD ESPECIALLY LONG DISTANCES. THE TIRES WEAR OUT QUICKER AND THE ALIGNMENTS DO NOT LAST. *TR
COLD START. BELOW FREEZING OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE. BRAKES NEEDED SEVERAL PUMPS IN ORDER TO STOP THE CAR TOTALLY. PROBLEM DISAPPEARED AS CAR WARMED UP. BROUGHT TO DEALER. REPLACED BRAKE BOOSTER AT OWNER'S EXPENSE. *TR
MY 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY SOMETIMES HAS ALL OF THE SUDDEN DIVERTED HARD TO THE RIGHT. I HAD THE CAR CHECKED MANY TIMES AT LONGO TOYOTA IN LOS ANGELES BUT I WAS TOLD NOTHING FOUND. IN FACT, THE PROBLEM EXISTS FOR A FEW YEARS THAT MAKES ME DRIVE MY CAR ANXIOUSLY. RECENTLY, MANY PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN FOUND ON TOYOTA VEHICLES AND I REQUEST NHTSA SHOULD HAVE AN INVESTIGATION. I AM CURRENTLY THE OWNER OF A 2007 LE 4 CYLINDER CAMRY. AT APPROXIMATELY 76K MILES MY TRANS STARTED ACTING FUNNY AS IF IT DID NOT WANT TO PULL AND WAS LEAKING TRANS FLUID. UPON TAKING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS A VERY BAD LEAK (WHICH MAY HAVE RESULTED IN A BAD/DEFECTIVE SEAL) AND THAT BEFORE ANY FURTHER WORK COULD BE DONE IT NEEDED TO BE TAKEN CARE OF. THE NEXT DAY I WAS TOLD THAT THE PUMP WAS DAMAGED, AS WELL AS, THE TORQUE CONVERTER. HE ALSO STATED THAT THE PARTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED OR REPLACE THE WHOLE TRANS. EITHER WAY I'M LOOKING AT A 4K BILL WHICH I CAN'T AFFORD AND THE VEHICLE IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. I CALLED TOYOTA'S CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER AND TO NO AVAIL I WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT HELP ME. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED HIS ANTI LOCKING BRAKING SYSTEM ON DRY SURFACES IS NOT HOLDING AND BRAKING WELL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTOR, HOWEVER THIS PROBLEM IS STILL HAPPENING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT DEALER AND THEY CANNOT FIND ANY MECHANICAL PROBLEMS. THE TOYOTA MANUFACTURER HAVE NOT BEEN CALLED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
I WAS ENTERING A CAR WASH ON HWY51 IN AMITE CITY, LA. I LIGHTLY TAPPED THE ACCELERATOR. THE CAR LUNGED FORWARD AS IF I HAD STOMPED THE ACCELERATOR. I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS. IT CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE. I USED TO BRAKES WITH NO RESULTS. I PUT MY FULL WEIGHT ON THE BRAKES WITH NO RESULTS. I WAS TERRIFIED AS I ZOOMED OUT OF THE CAR WASH AND INTO AN AREA WHERE THERE IS HEAVY PEDESTRIAN AS WELL AS VEHICULAR TRAFFIC. I COULD TELL THAT I WAS GOING AS FAST AS THE CAR WOULD GO. I QUICKLY SCANNED THE AREA AND SAW THAT NO ONE WAS DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF ME. I CROSSED THE SIDEWALK, PINE STREET AND THE PARKING LOT OF A CONVENIENCE STORE. I HIT A TELEPHONE POLL, AN IRON POLL AND A LARGE POLL ON A SIGN FOR GAS. BOTH MY LEGS WERE BROKEN/ BOTH BONES WERE BROKEN JUST ABOVE THE ANKLE ON THE LEFT LEG. THE LARGE BONE WAS BROKEN JUST BELOW THE KNEE ON THE RIGHT LEG. I STILL HAVE PROBLEMS WITH BOTH. MY DAUGHTER WAS DYING WITH CANCER. I WAS IN THE HOSPITAL, LATER REHAB, THEN A NURSING HOME WHILE I RECUPERATED. I WAS NOT RELEASED UNTIL LATE MARCH. WAS NOT ABLE TO SEE MY DAUGHTER WHO LIVED IN TEXAS. I WENT TO SEE HER AS SOON AS I WAS RELEASED. SHE DIED A MONTH LATER. NOT BEING WITH HER AND HER FAMILY DURING THAT TIME WAS AS BAD AS THE INJURIES. ALL LAWYERS STATED THAT IT WOULD BE TOO EXPENSIVE TO PURSUE. TOYOTA EXAMINED THE CAR AND POO POOED THE IDEA THAT THEY WERE IN ANY WAY RESPONSIBLE. I WAS VERY WORRIED ABOUT SOMEONE HAVING A WORSE ACCIDENT. *TR
ON DEC. 23, 2006, AROUND 11:20 AM, I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 5 MPH IN A PARKING LOT. AS I MADE A SLIGHT TURN TO THE LEFT TO STRAIGHTEN OUT, THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND HIT A PARKED CAR. THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK, EVEN WHEN FLOORED. THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP UNTIL IT PUSHED ANOTHER CAR UP ONTO THE SIDEWALK AND ITS WHEELS BUMPED UP AGAINST THE CURB. THE CAR WAS EVENTUALLY STOPPED BY TURNING OFF THE ENGINE USING THE KEY IN THE IGNITION. (TAKING MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL SEEMED TO MAKE IT GO FASTER.) THE WEATHER WAS SUNNY, BUT THE CAR HAD BEEN PARKED OUTSIDE IN THE RAIN THE TWO PREVIOUS DAYS. I HAD NOT USED THE CRUISE CONTROL ANYTIME RECENTLY BEFORE THE INCIDENT. WE HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR, ALTHOUGH OCCASIONALLY, THE RADIO TURN HAS TURNED ITSELF ON WHILE WE WERE DRIVING. *NM
ON DECEMBER 22, 20006 I WAS DRIVING INTO THORTON GAS STATION ON SHARON ROAD WHILE APPROACHING, THE FRONT OF THE BUILDING SUDDENLY MY CAR PLUNGE AHEAD AND SHATTERED THE FRONT WINDOW OF THE FILLING STATION IF IT WASN'T FOR THE BLOCK STOP I WOULD HAVE GONE INTO THE STORE, AN AMBULANCE WAS CALLED I WAS PUT IN THE HOSPITAL FOR TWO FOR TEST, THEY FOUND NOTHING THEN I WAS SCHEDULE FOR A BRAIN SCAN NOTHING THERE, UNTIL RECENTLY I KNOW FEEL THAT I KNOW WHAT HAPPEN TO MY CAR. *TR
2005 TOYOTA CAMRY WITH BRAKE PROBLEMS I HAVE A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY VIN[XXX] . DECEMBER OF 2006 I NOTICE THAT I HAD TROUBLE STOPPING THE CAR ON SNOW PACKED AND ICY ROADS WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED THERE WOULD BE A GRATING SOUND WHICH I ASSUMED WAS THE ABA BRAKE SYSTEM I TOOK THE CAR TO SPRADLEY MOTORS ON 12/26/2006 IN CHEYENNE AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS A NORMAL CONDITION. THE NEXT TIME I DROVE IT UNDER SNOWY CONDITIONS, I WAS APPROACHING A STOP SIGN GOING ABOUT 5MPH. WHEN I WAS TWO CAR LENGTHS FROM THE STOP SIGN, I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND GOT THE SAME SYMPTOM AS I DESCRIBED BEFORE. WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED I GOT THIS GRATING NOISE AND THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP UNTIL I WAS HALF THROUGH THE STOP SIGN. LUCKILY THERE WERE NO CARS COMING AND THERE WASN'T AN ACCIDENT. THIS TIME I WROTE A LETTER TO TOYOTA MOTOR SALES USA IN TORRANCE, CA ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. THE CASE NUMBER WAS [XXX] AND THEY HAD ME GO TO EHRLICH MOTORS IN GREELEY, CO ON 1/16/2007 TO HAVE THE ABS BRAKE SYSTEM CHECKED OUT. THEIR RESPONSE WAS 'VEHICLE OPERATING AS DESIGNED'. THIS CAR IS AN UNSAFE CAR DURING STORMY CONDITIONS AND I QUIT DRIVEING THE 2005 TOYOTA DURING THESE TIMES. MY WIFE HAS A 1995 TOYOTA THAT WE DRIVE DURING BAD WEATHER AND WE HAVE NO TROUBLE WITH IT STOPPING SAFELY. I KNOW THAT THERE HAVE BEEN A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THESE TOYOTA PROBLEMS, BUT AS YOU CAN SEE BY THE DATE OF MY COMPLAINTS, THEY WERE INITIATED LONG BEFORE THE COMPLAINTS COMING IN NOW, AND I RECEIVED NO SATISFACTION FROM TOYOTA [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
TL* - THE CONTACT STATES THAT ON 12/9/06 SHE DRIVING WHEN HER VEHICLE HAD POWER SURGE THE WEATHER WAS CLEAR. SHE WAS PARKING WHEN HER VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND JUMPED THE CURB. SHE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY ARE SAYING THAT THEY HAVE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR OCCURRENCE. THE CONTACT SAID THAT SHE FOUND SEVERAL OTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET. THE CONTACT BELIEVES THAT THE PROBLEM IS A RESULT OF A FAULTY SPEED CONTROL MODULATOR. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT A REPAIR SHOP. THE CONTACT ALSO HAS A COPY OF A POLICE REPORT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A WALL BECAUSE THE VEHICLE DID NOT SLOW DOWN WHEN THE BRAKES WERE ENGAGED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND NO POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL BODY SHOP WHERE THE DAMAGE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,847. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 57,000.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE GOING FORWARD INTO THE GARAGE AT 1 MPH ON DECEMBER 6, 2006, THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD AND CRASHED THROUGH A WALL. THE FREEZER, STOVE, KITCHEN CABINETS, DESK, TABLE, AND CHAIRS WERE DAMAGED. ON A SECOND OCCASION, THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD, BUT NO CRASH OCCURRED. ON JUNE 15, 2007, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO THE WALL OF A GROCERY STORE, CAUSING EXTENSIVE DAMAGE. THE DEALER HAD THE VEHICLE AFTER EACH FAILURE AND PERFORMED BODY WORK ON THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT DID NOT KNOW WHAT MECHANICAL WORK WAS PERFORMED. WHEN HE ASKED FOR THE PAPERWORK. TL* - THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG LIGHT IS OFF WHEN THE PASSENGER WHO WEIGHS 100 POUNDS SITS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THE AIR BAG LIGHT WILL TURN ON INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE IS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 4900 MILES. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, AND THEY TESTED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THIS MAY BE A REPEAT COMPLAINT BECAUSE I FILLED THIS OUT EARLIER BUT MY COMPUTER CRASHED. MY MOTHER AND SISTER HAD A MINOR ACCIDENT TODAY (11/29/2006, 12:10 P.M.)IN WHICH OUR 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY SURGED FORWARD FROM IT'S PARKING SPACE WHERE MY MOTHER HAD PULLED IN INTO THE OPPOSITE PARKING SPACE AND INTO A PARKED FORD EXPLORER SUV, KNOCKING OFF THE EXPLORER'S FRONT LICENSE PLATE COMPLETELY ONTO THE GROUND. MY SISTER SAID SHE LOOKED DOWN TO SEE IF MY MOTHER'S FOOT WAS ON THE ACCELERATOR AND IT WAS NOT, IT WAS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. SHE HEARD MY MOTHER SAY "I CAN'T STOP!" AS SHE STOOD ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE CAR SURGED FORWARD INTO THE PARKED EXPLORER ON IT'S OWN ACCELERATION. WE HAD A TOYOTA IN THE EARLY 1980'S AND HAD THIS EXACT PROBLEM RESULTING IN ANOTHER CRASH. THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR TOYOTA'S SINCE THEN. TOYOTA SHOULD HAVE FIXED THIS PROBLEM OVER THE LAST 20+ YEARS. BACK THEN THERE WAS NO INTERNET TO FILL OUT IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE CRASH TO COMPLAIN. *JB
WE WERE PARKED AT THE ENTRANCE TO HAMMOND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, LAUREL, MD WAITING TO PICK UP TWO CHILDREN A FEW MINUTES BEFORE DISMISSAL. NO SCHOOL BUSSES WERE PRESENT AT THE TIME WE PARKED. SEVERAL BUSES SOON ARRIVED, HOWEVER, WHICH PROMPTED OUR DECISION TO MOVE TO A BETTER PLACE AWAY FROM THE BUSES. I CAUTIOUSLY STARTED TO BACK UP AND, TO MY AMAZEMENT, THE ENGINE RACED AT HIGH RPM AS SOON AS I SHIFTED INTO REVERSE FROM PARK. ALTHOUGH I WAS PRESSING ON THE BRAKE, THE CAR ZOOMED BACK ABOUT 20-35 FEET. THE LEFT REAR CORNER OF MY CAR STRUCK THE LEFT FRONT CORNER OF A PARKED SCHOOL BUS. AT THIS TIME, STILL IN SHOCK, I QUICKLY PULLED THE SHIFT LEVER FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE, INTENDING TO GET AWAY FROM THE BUS. AT THAT MOMENT THE CAR THEN SHOT FORWARD, MY FOOT STILL PRESSING ON THE BRAKE. IT WENT BACK THROUGH THE PARKING SPACE, OVER THE CURB, AND INTO A PLAYGROUND. ABOUT 60 FEET INTO THE PLAYGROUND THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL HIT THE CORNER OF A SQUARE WOODEN BORDER SURROUNDING SOME PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT. NOT ONLY DID MY TOYOTA NOT STOP WHEN I SMASHED ON THE BRAKES, IT LEFT ABSOLUTELY NO SKID MARKS, AND MANAGED TO COMPLETELY RIP THE GRILLE AND HEADLIGHTS OFF THE FRONT BUMPER, AND CURL THE HOOD BACK OVER A FOOT. THE FORCE DID NOT DEPLOY THE AIRBAG, AND ONLY CAUSED MINOR DAMAGE TO THE BUMPER OF THE TRUCK. BECAUSE THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ON MY 2005 CAMRY LE ARE CLOSE TO EACH OTHER AND ENGAGE AT THE SAME LEVEL, IT IS ALL TOO EASY FOR A FOOT TO OVERLAP THE BRAKE PEDAL AND DEPRESS THE ACCELERATOR AND BRAKE AT THE SAME TIME. UNLESS I AM UNUSUALLY VIGILANT ABOUT MY FOOT POSITION, THIS CAN HAPPEN, AND THE CAR ACCELERATES INSTEAD OF BRAKING. THIS HAS HAPPENED OFTEN, BOTH IN CITY AND HIGHWAY DRIVING. MY MECHANIC HAS TRIED HIS BEST TO RAISE THE LEVEL OF THE BRAKE PEDAL ENGAGEMENT, BUT WITHOUT SUCCESS; THERE IS NO BRAKE ADJUSTMENT ON THIS MODEL. MY TOYOTA DEALER SAYS, TOO, THAT THERE IS NO ADJUSTMENT POSSIBLE AND REFUSES TO MODIFY THE BRAKE PEDAL TO RAISE IT ABOVE THE ACCELERATOR LEVEL. THIS IS A DESIGN PROBLEM, BUT IT OCCURS TO ME THAT AT LEAST SOME OF THE INCIDENTS OF INADVERTENT ACCELERATION MAY BE DUE TO THIS FAULT. IF THE CAR ACCELERATES WHILE YOU ARE BRAKING, ONE INSTINCTIVELY PRESSES HARDER ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, WHICH ALSO FURTHER DEPRESSES THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THIS HAS NOT RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT IN MY CASE. I WAS DRIVING SLOWLY THROUGH A PARKING LOT TO LOCATE A PARKING SPACE. AS I APPROACHED A SPACE, I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. TOYOTA CLAIMED THEY COULD NOT SUBSTANTIATE MY CLAIM OF SUDDEN ACCELERATION, BUT I KNOW THEY REPAIRED MY VEHICLE INTERNALLY AS WELL AS THE BODY WORK BECAUSE WHEN I PICKED MY CAR UP FROM JOSEPH TOYOTA DEALERSHIP THE CAR ACCELERATION PEDAL FELT SO DIFFERENT. IT FELT REAL STIFF AND HARD TO MASH. THE BRAKES WERE CHECK AND FIXED, BECAUSE DURING THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION THEY FAIL TO STOP THE CAR. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 38,000. UPDATED 8/25/10 *CN UPDATED 08/27/10 UPDATED 08/30/10
THIS IS TO REPORT AN ACCIDENT WE HAD IN OUR 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. AT THE END OF AUGUST 2006 MY FAMILY, WITH MY HUSBAND DRIVING ,WERE TURNING INTO THE LUBY'S PARKING LOT IN PLANO,TEXAS. AS HE TURNED INTO THE PARKING SPACE GOING APPROX, 1-2 MPH, THE CAR SUDDENLY STARTED REVVING LIKE CRAZY AND ACCELERATED AT HIGH SPEED INTO A LIGHT POLE AT THE FRONT OF THE PARKING SPACE. THE ACCELERATION HAPPENED IN A SPACE OF ABOUT 5 TO 7 FEET AND YET THE FRONT END OF THE CAR WAS DAMAGED SO BAD THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WOULDN'T OPEN. THE LIGHT POLE HAD A CEMENT BASE AND STOPPED THE CAR FROM GOING ANY FURTHER BUT THE CAR WAS STILL ACCELERATING AFTER WE HAD STOPPED. AFTER MY HUSBAND TURNED OFF THE KEY, THE ENGINE RAN FOR A MINUTE OR TWO MORE. AT THE TIME WE HAD NO CLUE THAT IT COULD HAVE BEEN A PROBLEM WITH THE TOYOTA. ALTHOUGH WE SUSPECTED IT. OUR CAR IS ALSO NOT ON THE RECALL LIST. MY HUSBAND MADE A STATEMENT TO THE INSURANCE COMPANY AT THE TIME AND I WOULD ASSUME THEY WOULD HAVE THIS ON FILE. THE CAR WAS REPAIRED BUT WE ARE WORRIED THIS MIGHT HAPPEN AGAIN. SINCE WE DON'T KNOW WHICH IF ANY PART MALFUNCTIONED, WE DO NOT KNOW IF IT WAS REPLACED AFTER THE ACCIDENT. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS STOLEN ON 8-9-06. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STOLEN IT WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH. THE VEHICLE HIT A HEAVY METAL GUARD RAIL AT A DEAD END. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THERE WERE INJURIES SUSTAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. THERE WAS A POLICE REPORT FILED.
NUMEROUS OCCASIONS OF UNEXPLAINED ACCELERATION AND WERE REPORTED TO TOYOTA WHO REPORTED COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM. NUMEROUS OCCASIONS OF BRAKING PROBLEMS AND WERE REPORTED TO TOYOTA WHO REPORTED COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM. NUMEROUS OCCASIONS OF STEERING PROBLEMS AND WERE REPORTED TO TOYOTA WHO REPORTED COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM. NUMEROUS OCCASIONS OF TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AND WERE REPORTED TO TOYOTA WHO REPORTED COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM. VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO TOYOTA UNDER CA LEMON LAW IN 2006 OR 2007. *TR
THE PASSENGER AIRBAG STAYS OFF FOR A SMALLER ADULT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. (~95LBS). ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, THIS IS NORMAL, AND THAT THE ADULT MAY NEED TO PUT ON WEIGHT. I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG INDICATOR SHOULD TURN ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY, OR STAY OFF WITH AN ADULT SEATED IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THE PASSENGER IS SEATED CORRECTLY. PROBLEM CONTINUES TO PERSIST FOR ADULTS UNDER 95LBS. THE INCIDENT WAS REPORTED TO THE DEALERSHIP AS WELL AS TOYOTA. APPARENTLY, TOYOTA NOW HAS A TSB OUT - TSB EL005-05 TO CORRECT THIS SAFETY ISSUE. HOWEVER, SINCE THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL, THE ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED IN THE VEHICLE. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED UPON INITIAL ACCELERATION AT LOW SPEEDS ON A CITY STREET, THE VEHICLE LURCHED FORWARD STRIKING ANOTHER VEHICLE IN THE REAR END. DURING THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION, THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND TO FIRM BRAKE PRESSURE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES BUT MINOR DAMAGE WAS SUSTAINED TO THE VEHICLE. THE POLICE WAS NOT CONTACTED AND NO REPORT WAS TAKEN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED, BUT BOTH THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED ON 8-17-06 BY A TOYOTA REPRESENTATIVE, HOWEVER HE REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE ACCELERATOR. UPDATED 09/05/06. *JB
