MY SERPENTINE BELT RECENTLY STARTED SQUEALING, SO I BOUGHT A NEW ONE AND CHANGED IT MYSELF. UPON CHANGING IT, I REALIZED THAT MY CRANKSHAFT PULLEY HAD CHUNKS OF RUBBER THAT HAD COME OFF OF IT, AND IT SEEMED TO BE MAKING THE BELT RUB ON THE SIDE OF THE ENGINE BLOCK ON ONE OF THE TENSION PULLEY'S. AFTER RESEARCHING ONLINE, I FOUND THAT IN 2011, TOYOTA HAD RECALLED 402,000 VEHICLES BECAUSE OF A FAULTY CRANKSHAFT PULLEY, THAT CAUSED POWER STEERING TO GO OUT, AND CAUSE ACCIDENTS. HOWEVER, IN CALLING TOYOTA, THEY STATE THERE ARE NO OPEN RECALLS ON 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY'S, EVEN THOUGH THE WEBSITE THAT I FOUND INCLUDED 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY'S IN THEIR RECALL LIST. EVEN NOW WITH A NEW BELT ON, THE BELT IS JUMPING BACK AND FORTH ON THE TENSION PULLEY CAUSING THE CAR TO HAVE A "JITTERY" FEEL WHILE IDLING. I FEEL IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THIS BELT IS RUINED AS WELL. I'M NOT SURE HOW CERTAIN MODELS OF TOYOTA CAMRY'S IN 2005 WOULD'VE HAD A DIFFERENT CRANKSHAFT PULLEY, THAT HAPPENS TO BE DOING THE SAME THING THAT MINE IS DOING NOW (RUBBER SEPERATING FROM THE METAL), YET THEY WERE RECALLED AND MINE WAS NOT.
WHILE SWITCHING LANES FROM LEFT TO RIGHT AT A STOPLIGHT ABOUT 10 FEET BEHIND THE CAR IN FRONT, AS I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE THE CAR SUDDENLY, UNEXPECTEDLY ACCELERATED AND MY FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE HIT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. WE HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS UNANTICIPATED ACCELERATION AT LEAST 6-7 TIMES IN DIVERSE CIRCUMSTANCES.
SEAT BELT ON PASSENGER SIDE IN FRONT WON'T RETRACT.
ON MARCH 19, 2016, I WAS DRIVING MY TOYOTA 2005 CAMRY AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. I APPLIED THE BRAKES, EMERGENCY BRAKE AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK. THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AND I ATTEMPTED TO APPROACH THE FREEWAY ON RAMP. I WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. I CROSSED A RAISED ISLAND AND INTO THE FREEWAY LANE AND HIT A CAR THAT WAS DRIVING ONTO THE FREEWAY RAMP. BOTH CARS WERE DAMAGED. MY CAR WAS TOTALED. I WAS TRANSPORTED TO HOSPITAL AND WAS DISCHARGED FROM EMERGENCY ROOM.
MARCH 19TH 2016, DRIVING ON A CITY STREET WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. APPLIED THE BRAKES/EMERGENCY BRAKE. CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATED AND I ATTEMPTED TO ENTER FREEWAY. I WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AND I HIT A CAR THAT WAS ENTERING THE FREEWAY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED INDEPENDENTLY AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO A BUILDING. THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE RIGHT LEG, CHEST, NECK, AND SHOULDERS THAT NEEDED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO A TOWING FACILITY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
ON 12/4/2015, EXPERIENCED SLUGGISH RESPONSE WHEN PRESSING ACCELERATOR, THEN SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION AND SURGING FORWARD AT HIGH SPEED, CAUSING SPEED OF CAR TO BE TOTALLY UNPREDICTABLE WITH A STEADY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR. BRAKING DID SLOW AND STOP THE CAR. TOOK CAR IMMEDIATELY TO TOYOTA DEALER. THEY REPLACED THE ECU (ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT) AT A COST OF $900. ABOUT 10 WEEKS LATER, THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. DRIVING TO WORK ON THE FREEWAY THAT DAY, ACCELERATION WAS SLUGGISH AND UNPREDICTABLE. PARKED CAR AT WORK, AND THEN AFTER BACKING UP IN THE PARKING AREA TO LEAVE, THE CAR AGAIN WAS SLUGGISH ON ACCELERATION, AND THEN BEGAN TO SURGE FORWARD UNPREDICTABLY, OUT OF MY CONTROL, WITH NO INCREASE IN PRESSURE ON THE ACCELERATOR. AGAIN, THE BRAKES FUNCTIONED TO SLOW OR STOP THE CAR. I PULLED OVER AND CALLED THE TOYOTA DEALER, WHO ADVISED I COULD BRING IT IN THAT EVENING. NO SURGING WAS NOTICED WHEN CAR WAS IN PARK. I HAD A HARROWING DRIVE TO THE DEALERSHIP DURING RUSH HOUR, KEEPING A LONG DISTANCE BEHIND THE CARS IN FRONT OF ME TO AVOID HITTING ANYONE. ACCELERATION WAS VERY SLUGGISH WHEN MERGING OR STARTING UP AGAIN AFTER A RED LIGHT TURNED GREEN, AND ONCE I BEGAN MOVING AHEAD, THE UNPREDICTABLE SURGING AND SLOWING BEGAN AGAIN AND CONTINUED UNTIL I STOPPED AT THE NEXT LIGHT, ETC. THEY HAVE HAD THE CAR TEN DAYS AND HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I NOW NEED TO RETURN THE LOANER, AND DRIVE THE DEFECTIVE CAR AGAIN. NO FLOOR MATS WERE IN PLACE. I CAN ONLY HOPE MY HUSBAND, CHILDREN OR I ARE NOT INVOLVED IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT IN THE EVENT THIS HAPPENS AGAIN, WHICH I FULLY EXPECT. HOW CAN TOYOTA AND NHTSA DETERMINE THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS WHEN THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS IN THIS RECORD, AND PEOPLE HAVE BEEN KILLED AND INJURED AS A RESULT OF PROBLEMS WITH UNINTENDED ACCELERATION IN THESE VEHICLES?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE THEN CRASHED INTO A BLOCK OF CEMENT. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND ASSESSED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY WHO DECIDED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BODY SHOP, BUT NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALL. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,195.

2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE ACCELERATION PROBLEMS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN HE WAS A STOP, THE VEHICLE WOULD UNEXPECTEDLY ACCELERATE. TWO WEEKS LATER, AS THE CONSUMER WAS ABOUT TO BACK OUT OF A PARKING SPACE, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED. *JB
IN 2015 I PURCHASED MY 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY WITH LESS THAN 50K MILES AND THE SEAT BELTS APPEARED FINE. WITHIN A MONTH I NOTICED THE DRIVER'S SEAT BELT WOULD NOT RETRACT. IT MALFUNCTIONED BOTH WHEN THE CAR WAS OFF AND ON AND REGARDLESS IF IT WAS IN ANY GEAR OR POSITION. I PAID SOMEONE TO LUBRICATE IT AND THAT FAILED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THEN I PAID THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP ALMOST $500 TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE SEAT BELT! I HAVE OWNED A CAMRY BEFORE FOR OVER 10 YEARS AND IT NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM. I THINK I SHOULD BE REFUNDED FOR THAT DEFECTIVE PRODUCT.

A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 118,000.

WHILE DRIVING FROM FRIENDS HOME TO PICKUP KIDS FROM SCHOOL, I WAS GOING ON A 2 LANE ROAD GOING EAST BOUND, CAR WAS TRAVELLING @ 30 MPH ON STARTIGHT ROAD OF SPEED LIMIT 35MPH, ALL OF SUDDEN STEERING AND BRAKES DID NOT FUNCTION DUE TO WHICH THE CAR WAS ABOUT TO COLLIDE WITH A TREE HEAD ON, ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE STREERING AND BRAKES STARTED FUNCTIONING AND I TRIED TO AVOID THE TREE COLLISION DURING WHICH THE TRUNK OF THE CAR HIT THE TRUNK OF THE TREE. I PULLED THE CAR TO THE CURB OF THE ROAD

THE CONTACT HELD ON TO THE STEERING WHEEL, CRASHED INTO A PARKED VEHICLE, AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO BRAKE, IT CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT HAD TO CRASH THE VEHICLE AGAINST THE SIDEWALK AND THE ONLY THING THAT STOPPED THE VEHICLE WAS THAT THE RIM HAD NO TIRE. THE POLICE DEPARTMENT WAS PRESENT, BUT NO POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE INSURANCE COMPANY WAS NOTIFIED OF THE CRASH. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER SENT A THIRD PARTY COMPANY TO INVESTIGATE THE CRASH AND THEY FOUND NO EVIDENCE OF MANUFACTURING DEFECT. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE SAME FAILURE OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE AT 1 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME STUCK AND THE VEHICLE CRASHED OVER A 36 INCH WALL AT THE END OF A PARKING AREA. THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED OVER THE 36 INCH WALL DOWN THE SIDEWALK AND ONTO THE STREET. THE CONTACT STOPPED THE VEHICLE BY APPLYING THE BRAKES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000. UPDATE 01/15/16 MA UPDATED 01/28/16.*JB
THIS IS CONCERNING THE BRIDGESTONE FUSION TOURING TIRE 205/65R15-94H. WE HAD DRIVEN OUR CAMRY TO NORTH CAROLINA FROM FLORIDA AND BACK IN JULY OR AUGUST 2015. IT WAS VERY HOT (IN THE 90'S). I THEN DROVE IN FLORIDA FROM MELBOURNE BEACH TO TALLAHASSEE AND BACK IN THE HEAT AGAIN IN AUGUST. MY CAR WAS VIBRATING AT OVER 70 MILES PER HOUR. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO MY MECHANIC, ONE OF THE TIRES HAD SHREDDED. IN LATE SEPTEMBER 2015, WE DROVE FROM FLORIDA TO HILTON HEAD AND THE CAR WAS VIBRATING AGAIN. WE TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC IN HILTON HEAD AND THE BELT IN ONE OF THE TIRES HAD SEPARATED. SINCE TWO TIRES OUT OF FOUR HAVE HAD STRUCTURAL PROBLEMS I THINK THESE TIRES MAY HAVE A DEFECT OR CANNOT WITHSTAND BEING DRIVEN IN HIGH TEMPERATURES AND CAN BE DANGEROUS. I WOULD LIKE THEM LOOKED AT FOR RECALL.
WE NOTICED WHITE SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE CAR SO WE TOOK IT INTO OUR MECHANIC WHO TOLD US THAT COOLANT WAS LEAKING INTO THE ENGINE. HE NOTED THAT UPON DOING SOME RESEARCH THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THAT YEAR MODEL AND REPAIRING IT WOULD BE EXTREMELY COSTLY. WE WERE TOLD WE SHOULD NOT DRIVE IT ANYMORE BECAUSE THE ENGINE COULD QUIT ON US AT ANYTIME. MY HUSBAND CHECKED THE CRANK CASE DIPSTICK AND THE RADIATOR, BOTH WERE CONTAMINATED WITH RUST.AT THIS POINT IT WAS DETERMINED THAT WE COULD NO LONGER DRIVE THE CAR. .
GEARS NOT WORKING
THE CAR HESITATE DURING ACCELERATION. AFTER APPLYING BRAKES, WHEN YOU ARE TRYING TO GAIN SPEED, YOU NOTICE IS SIGNIFICANTLY. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THOUGH.
A YEAR AGO IN MAY OF 2015, MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HER TOYOTA CAMRY WHEN THE POWER STEERING SUDDENLY WENT OUT ON HER WHILE DRIVING AND ALMOST CAUSED HER TO CRASH. WE BROUGHT IT TO A MECHANIC WHO WAS MYSTIFIED, HE SAID HE'D NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT BEFORE, IN HIS WORDS, "IT LOOKS LIKE THE PULLEY BENT ON IT'S OWN AND THEN THE BELT CAME OFF." HE HAD NO IDEA WHAT HAD CAUSED THE PULLEY TO GET OUT OF ALIGNMENT AND CHARGED ME ALMOST $500 TO REPAIR THE DAMAGE. NEARLY A YEAR LATER, I'M INVESTIGATING BRAKE ISSUES WITH CAMRYS AND I CAME ACROSS THIS RECALL WHICH DESCRIBES PERFECTLY WHAT THE MECHANIC COULDN'T FIGURE OUT. WHY WAS I NEVER INFORMED OF THIS RECALL? MY CAMRY IS A 2005, IT CLEARLY SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED. TOYOTA'S NEGLIGENCE ON THIS COULD HAVE COST MY WIFE HER LIFE IF SHE HADN'T NARROWLY AVOIDED THE CRASH THE FAILURE OF HER POWER STEERING ALMOST CAUSED. THIS COULD HAVE AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED BY TOYOTA LONG BEFORE THE INCIDENT OCCURED THROUGH THE RECALL. I WANT THE COST OF MY REPAIRS REFUNDED BY TOYOTA AND ANY ADDITIONAL REPAIRS TO GET IT UP TO THE STANDARDS OF THE RECALL PAID BY THEM.
THIS VEHICLE IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST HOWEVER, THE AIRBAG IS CLEARLY STARTING TO PROTRUDE ON THE DASH. WORRIED IT MIGHT DEPLOY IF I HAVE A PASSENGER IN THE CAR WITH ME.
PASSENGER FRONT AIRBAG LOOKS LIKE IT IS READY TO OPEN UP & DEPLOY-STARTED OUT ON A SMALLER PORTION, BUT GETS WORSE BY THE DAY. POSSIBLY DUE TO THE HEAT HERE IN FL STATE?? I HAVE OWNED TOYOTA CAMRY'S SINCE THE 1990'S; LIVED IN NY STATE AND FL STATE, & NEVER HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE AIRBAGS. THIS IS QUITE DISTURBING & SCARY-SHOULD I CALL THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER & SET UP AN APPOINTMENT? I DO NOT FEEL THAT IS IN MY 'FAULT', & THEREFORE, SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS REPAIR-PLEASE ADVISE, THANK YOU.
THE HESITATE TO ACCELERATE I.E. AFTER ACCELERATING A BIT, IT SLOWS DOWN OR RATHER DO NOT ACCELERATE. SO IT CAUSES DIFFICULT TO MERGE AND THE DRIVERS BEHIND THE CAR MAY HIT. *TR

THE CONTACT'S SON HAD TO GET THE VEHICLE REPAIRED FIVE TIMES. THE SEAT BELTS CONTINUED TO FOLD AND WERE TOO TIGHT TO FASTEN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET AT ABOUT 35MPH WHEN ROUGH, SOMEWHAT GRINDING NOISES CAME FROM UNDER THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE CAR HOOD OF THE 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. THESE NOISES CONTINUED FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. WHEN I HAD THE RIGHT-OF-WAY AND ATTEMPTED TO PROCEED, I FOUND I COULD NOT TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. I THOUGHT THE CAR WAS INOPERABLE BUT WHEN I EXERTED GREAT EFFORT, THE WHEEL DID TURN. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO TURN A CORNER AND MOVE INTO A PUBLIC PARKING LOT. AGAIN WITH GREAT STEERING DIFFICULTY AND NOISE FROM BELOW THE CAR HOOD, I DROVE THE CAR ABOUT A QUARTER OF A MILE TO MY HOME AND THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A SERVICE CENTER. *TR UPDATED 4/14/16 *JS

THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE SEAT BELT SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE RESET. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000.
AT THE TIME OF 5K MILE OIL CHANGE AND TIRE ROTATION, I INQUIRED ABOUT UNUSUAL TIRE NOISE AT ~30 MPH AND HIGHER. I ASKED IF MAYBE A 4-WHEEL ALIGNMENT WAS IN ORDER. THIS HAD NEVER BEEN DONE ON THIS VEHICLE. WHILE DOING THE ALIGNMENT THE MECHANIC DISCOVERED THAT THE "PASSENGER SIDE REAR TOE ARM ASSEMBLY" WAS NOT PROPERLY ATTACHED AT THE CENTER POINT DUE TO THE LACK OF THREADS ON THE FEMALE PORTION OF THE PART. THUS THE TWO ENDS WERE SIMPLY SLIDING FREELY IN AND OUT AT THE CONNECTION POINT. THE PART WAS REPLACED AND ALIGNMENT WAS COMPLETED. *TR

AT AROUND 3:00 PM, I WAS IN MY CAR, DRIVING AT A VERY LOW RATE OF SPEED, APPROXIMATELY A COUPLE OF MILES PER HOUR, TO MOVE INTO A LINE OF CARS AT A GAS STATION. SUDDENLY, WITHOUT WARNING AND ON ITS OWN MY CAR SURGED FORWARD AND ACCELERATED. AS MY CAR SPED FORWARD, THE ENGINE SEEMED TO REV HIGHER, MAKING A LOUD NOISE. I TRIED TO STOP THE CAR WITH THE BRAKE, BUT THE CAR DID NOT STOP. DURING THIS AWFUL EVENT, MY CAR CRASHED INTO TWO DIFFERENT CARS, ONE OF WHICH WAS OCCUPIED, AND ONE OF WHICH WAS PARKED WITH NO OCCUPANT. FINALLY, MY CAR CAME TO A STOP. THE AIR BAGS IN MY CAR DID NOT DEPLOY. PARAMEDICS AND POLICE CAME TO THE SCENE. THERE WAS A POLICE REPORT. I WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL AND CHECKED. MY UNDERSTANDING FROM MY INSURANCE COMPANY IS THAT THERE IS A CLAIM FOR INJURY BY ONE OF THE INDIVIDUALS IN THE OCCUPIED CAR. MY CAR WAS IMPOUNDED. MY INSURANCE COMPANY HAS INFORMED ME THAT MY CAR IS A TOTAL LOSS, AND HAS BEEN BRANDED NON-REPAIR. I HAVE BEEN INFORMED BY MY INSURANCE COMPANY THAT THEY AND TOYOTA WILL CONDUCT A JOINT INVESTIGATION OF THE CAR. NOTE: AS I READ AND UNDERSTAND THE SAFERCAR.GOV WEBSITE (POWERED BY NHTSA), IT APPEARS THAT AS OF THIS DATE, THERE ARE 625 COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY, WITH APPARENTLY 249 OF THEM ALMOST 40% REPORTED IN THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL CATEGORY. THE BRAKES TURN OFF WHEN RIDING OVER A ROUGH SURFACE. I KNOW HOW ABS WORKS. THERE IS NOTHING THAT SHOULD TRIGGER THE ABS. I KNOW HOW IT WORKS OVER SNOW. THE BRAKES WORK FINE OVER SMOOTH SURFACE. BUT IF BRAKING OVER A POTHOLE THE ABS UNNECESSARILY TURNS ON CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SKID AND SLIDE MUCH FURTHER THAN NORMAL STOPPING DISTANCE. NO OTHER CAR I HAVE DRIVEN IN MY LIFE HAS DONE THIS. MY CAR STARTED MAKING CLICKING NOISES UNDERNEATH THE HOOD WHEN I TURNED A CORNER. I TOOK IT TO GATEWAY TOYOTA TO FIND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AND FOUND OUT THAT THAT I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. MY PROBLEM WITH NEEDING A TRANSMISSION IS THAT THE CAR WAS MADE TO BE IN AUTOMATIC OVERDRIVE. IN THE MANUAL IS STATES THAT THE OVERDRIVE SHOULD ALWAYS BE ON. I BELIEVE THAT DRIVING WITH THE OVERDRIVE ON AT ALL TIMES CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION TO EVENTUALLY FAIL BEFORE ITS TIME. I ALSO BELIEVE THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE TRANSMISSION BECAUSE WHEN I TURN OFF THE OVERDRIVE, THE CAR DRIVES FINE. IN ADDITION, MANY MECHANICS I HAVE TALKED TO STATED THAT THE OVERDRIVE REALLY SHOULDN'T BE USED THAT OFTEN AND IT IS STRANGE THAT THE TOYOTA CAMRYS WERE BUILT TO HAVE THE OVERDRIVE ON CONTINUOUSLY.
