I ALSO HAVE A 2005 TOYOTA SOLARA WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM.REMOTE WIRELESS DOOR LOCK WILL ONLY UNLOCK DRIVERS DOOR AND ELECTRIC DOOR LOCK ON DRIVERS DOOR WILL ONLY LOCK PASSENGER DOORS ALL DOORS MUST BE UNLOCKED BY HAND.THIS IS AN ON GOING PROBLEM WITH CAMRYS AND TOYOTA NEEDS TO RECALL THESE CARS AS THEY DID IN THE PAST AND FIX THE LOCK PROBLEMS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. WESTBOUND ON I-285, MIDDLE LANE, A CAR STOPPED TOTALLY IN FRONT OF US, AT DUSK. WE HAD 5-6 VEHICLE LENGTHS BETWEEN US ,BUT MOMENTARILY DID NOT REALIZE THE CAR IN FRONT WAS NOT MOVING, AS SHE DID NOT EVEN PUT ON HER BRAKE LIGHTS. WE BRAKED, HITTING HER IN THE REAR BUMPER. WE WERE NEARLY HIT BY A TRACTOR TRAILER BEHIND US, BUT MERCIFULLY, HE WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE FRONT OF HIS RIG TO THE RIGHT LANE BESIDE US. WE REALIZED ALMOST IMMEDIATELY THAT OUR AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, EITHER SIDE. THE SEAT BELTS REALLY HELD US. WE CONTACTED TOYOTA REQUESTING THEY PAY FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST TO SEE IF THE AIRBAGS ARE FUNCTIONAL. WE SENT A CERTIFIED LETTER PER THEIR INSTRUCTIONS 4/16/14. THEIR STATED RESPONSE TIME IS TWO WEEKS, BY LETTER. WE STILL HAVE NOT HEARD FROM THEM. WHILE THE CAR HAS HAD SOME SMALL FENDER BENDERS ON ITS REAR, IT HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT OF THIS MAGNITUDE. SEATBELT LIGHT CAME ON INDICATING THAT THE SEAT BELTS AND AIRBAGS WILL NOT WORK IF THERE IS A CRASH. THERE HAS BEEN NO CRASH OR INCIDENT UP TO THIS POINT. IS THERE A RECALL FOR THIS TYPE OF EMERGENCY? *JS
I NOTICED SOMETIME BACK THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG COVER IS COMING UNDONE. *TR
2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO HEARING NOISE FROM REAR DRIVERS SIDE OF VEHICLE AND DEALERSHIP MECHANIC REPAIRED BROKEN STRUT BUT NOISE CONTINUED. *SMD WHEN THE CONSUMER RETURNED TO THE DEALER, AND INSPECTION WAS PERFORMED, WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THE STRUT WAS BROKEN. THE CONSUMER CONTINUED TO HEAR THE NOISE, SO HE RETURNED TO THE DEALER, WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED AGAIN. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN INTERMEDIATE SHAFT. THE CONSUMER DID NOT BELIEVE THE NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT.
A CONSISTENT GRINDING/KNOCKING/CLUNKING SOUND STARTED COMING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE STEERING AT LOW SPEEDS (0-30 MPH). ALSO, THE STEERING WHEEL FELT LOOSER THAN NORMAL AT ALL SPEEDS (0-65MPH). THE SERVICE ADVISER AT THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT THIS WAS A COMMON ISSUE WITH A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY, AND THAT THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. HOWEVER, SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY, I HAD TO COVER THE ~$660 COST. A GOOGLE SEARCH REVEALS SEVERAL SIMILAR ISSUES WITH OTHER LATE MODEL CAMRYS. TOYOTA HAS A TSB T-SB-0296-08 TO "GREASE" THE STEERING SHAFT FOR THE NOISE. HOWEVER, BOTH THE DEALERSHIP, AS WELL AS A GOOGLE SEARCH REVEALED THAT THE GREASE FIX WOULD BE TEMPORARY, AND DOES NOT LAST. THE DEALERSHIP ALSO INFORMED ME THAT THE NEWER REPLACEMENT STEERING SHAFTS ARE BETTER DESIGNED, ARE COMPLETELY SEALED, AND CANNOT BE GREASED. SINCE A TSB IS OUT, IT LOOKS LIKE TOYOTA IS AWARE OF THIS SAFETY ISSUE. HOWEVER, NO RECALL HAS BEEN MADE. *TR
BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT AT WAL-MART CAR SURGED AND I HAD TO SLAM ON THE BRAKE. MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE WHEN BACKING UP AND I TURNED AROUND TO GO FORWARD WHEN CAR WAS STILL BACKING UP SO I SLAMMED ON THE BRAKE. OF COURSE I PANICKED AND COULD NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT WAS HAPPENING. THE CAR WAS MOVING BACKWARD AND MY FOOT WAS NOT ON THE GAS. THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME THE SAME THING HAPPENED IN OCTOBER WHILE BACKING UP. IT ALSO HAD SURGE FORWARD BEFORE AFTER GOING BACK AND FORTH OUT OF A PARKING SPACE. I STILL HAVE THE DENT ON THE FRONT BUMPER. *TR
THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT WOULD NOT RETRACT TO ALLOW A PASSENGER TO SAFELY RIDE IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. WHEN THE SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY WAS EXTENDED IN PREPARATION FOR LATCHING, A FOLD OF ABOUT 3/8 INCH IN THE BELT ON ITS RIGHT EDGE DEVELOPED AT THE ASSEMBLY, WHICH IS LOCATED AT THE UPPER RIGHT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE POST WHERE THE BELT COMES OUT OF THE INTERIOR TRIM. THIS FOLD SOMEHOW DISABLES, OR CATCHES ON SOMETHING, AND PREVENTS THE BELT FROM RETRACTING. *TR
2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE ENGINE BEING DEFECTIVE. *SMD THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. A DIAGNOSIS REVEALED WATER WAS IN THE ENGINE AND IT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $1,858.33 THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED, THE HEADS COULD NOT BE REMOVED, BECAUSE OF AN ENGINE DEFECT. THE SCREWS ON THE MANIFOLD OR HEADS WERE COMING LOOSE AND THAT'S HOW WATER ENTERED THE ENGINE, AND THE HEAD GASKET HAD BLOWN. THE CONSUMER STATED ABOUT A MONTH AGO, SHE STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. SHE WAS INFORMED THE IGNITION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ALSO, THE WATER PUMP, AND ALTERNATOR WERE REPLACED. THE AIR COMPRESSOR AND HEATER SENSOR ELEMENT FAILED. *JB UPDATED 05/12/14. *JB
NOVEMBER 9TH 2013 - AS I PULLED INTO A PARKING SPACE WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE CAR TOOK OFF LIKE A ROCKET AND HIT A SMALL TREE. WHEN I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE, AGAIN WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, IT SHOT BACKWARD INTO A PARKED CAR. NOVEMBER 25TH 2013 - AGAIN, PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE CAR SHOT FORWARD, THIS TIME, IT WENT RIGHT INTO A BRICK WALL. APPROXIMATELY 40 BRICKS RAINED DOWN ON THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE, THE FRONT END IS SMASHED IN, BUT THIS TIME, I HAD A PASSENGER THAT WAS INJURED AND KEPT OVERNIGHT IN THE HOSPITAL. THE AIRBAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. THE POLICE THAT RESPONDED WERE SHOCKED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SITTING IDLE WHEN ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS THROWN FORWARD, CAUSING THE CONTACT TO CRASH INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE AND INTO A WALL. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED NECK AND HEAD INJURIES AND WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THERE WERE NO FURTHER INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE INCIDENT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 205,000. [XXX] WAS STOPPED AT AN EXIT RAMP ON A FREEWAY IN HIS 2005 CAMRY. HE WAS REAR ENDED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE AT APPROXIMATELY 55-60 MPH, CAUSING [XXX] CAR TO HIT A GUARD RAIL. BOTH CARS WERE TOTALED AND SUSTAINED MAJOR DAMAGE. [XXX] AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, DESPITE THE FACT HIS VEHICLE SUSTAINED LARGE IMPACTS TO BOTH THE FRONT AND BACK OF HIS CAR. [XXX] HIT HIS HEAD AND SUSTAINED HEAD INJURIES (IN ADDITION TO OTHER INJURIES) AS A RESULT OF THE IMPACT AND FAILURE OF THE AIR BAGS TO DEPLOY. CAR ACCELERATED FROM STOP AT ATM .CAR WOULD NOT STOP. HIT TWO PARKED CARS. *TR
I WAS BACKING UP ON GRASS WHEN THE CAR ACCELERATED BACKWARDS. I PANICKED BECAUSE I THOUGHT I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND THEN I WAS CONFUSED REACHING FOR THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THEN GAS PEDAL. MY FOOT WAS GOING BACK AND FORTH. I SLAMMED ON THE BRAKE TO STOP BUT HIT A FENCE POLE DESTROYED BUMPER. THE CAR SEEMED TO BE MOVING ON ITS OWN AND I MAY HAVE HIT THE GAS PEDAL BY ACCIDENT THEN SLAMMED ON THE BRAKE. NO ONE WAS HURT BUT SHOOK UP. IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON DECEMBER 18, 2013. I WAS BACKING UP AGAIN IN WAL-MARTS PARKING LOT AND FOR SOME REASON IT ACCELERATED AGAIN AND I REMEMBER SAYING NOT AGAIN. THAT TIME I KNOW MY RIGHT FOOT WAS NOT ON THE GAS PEDAL AT ALL. I PANICKED AGAIN AND SLAMMED ON THE BRAKE HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE BEHIND ME. THIS CAR JERKS A LOT AND IT HAD ACCELERATED GOING FORWARD TWICE, ONCE IN A PARKING GARAGE AND DAMAGED MY FRONT BUMPER, THEN AGAIN I ALMOST WENT OVER THE RAIL ROAD TRACKS PARKING BY A BUSINESS. THIS IS A DELAYED RESPONSE, AS I WAS NOT AWARE THAT TOYOTA FINALLY ACCEPTED RESPONSIBILITY FOR SPONTANEOUS ACCELERATIONS. I WAS IN SLOW, STOP AND GO TRAFFIC AND MY CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. I RECALL LOOKING DOWN AS I PRESSED THE BRAKE AS HARD AS I COULD BECAUSE THE CAR WAS NOT STOPPING OR DECELERATING. I THOUGHT THAT MY FOOT MUST HAVE BEEN INADVERTENTLY ON THE GAS PEDAL BUT IT WAS FIRMLY PLANTED ON THE BRAKE. THE BRAKE WORKED AS THERE WERE DEFINITE SKID MARKS. I SLAMMED INTO THE BACK OF A TAHOE, TOTALING MY CAR AND CAUSING A PULLED SHOULDER, WHIP LASH, AND A DEVIATED SEPTUM IN MY NOSE FROM THE AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. I WAS AFRAID THAT THE POLICEMAN WOULD NOT EVEN BELIEVE MY ACCOUNT OF THE ACCIDENT SO I DID NOT REPORT THE INCIDENT AS CLEARLY AS IT OCCURRED (THOUGH I DEFINITELY ACCEPTED RESPONSIBILITY). I JUST RECEIVED A CHECK FOR APPROXIMATELY $23.00 A FEW WEEKS AGO FOR A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT SETTLEMENT. I AM FURIOUS THAT I LOST AN OTHERWISE (PAID FOR) GREAT CAR, SUSTAINED INJURIES AND MORE IMPORTANT, ENDANGERED PEOPLE AROUND ME. I ALSO NOW HAVE AN "ACCIDENT" ON MY INSURANCE RECORD. THE FINANCIAL, PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL TOLL THIS HAS TAKEN CAN CERTAINLY NOT BE "BOUGHT OUT" WITH $23.00. I WISH THAT I HAD TOLD MY EXPERIENCE TO THE OFFICER AS I CLEARLY PERCEIVED IT, REGARDLESS OF HOW IMPLAUSIBLE IT SEEMED. NOW, I HAVE FOOLISHLY ALREADY PURCHASED ANOTHER CAMRY, AND, ONCE AGAIN THEY HAVE A MAJOR SAFETY RECALL. AT LEAST THEY HAVE OPENLY ACKNOWLEDGED THIS ONE. HOWEVER, I CANNOT GET THEM TO RETURN MY CALLS WITH AN APPOINTMENT FOR A REPAIR. WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO IN THE MEANTIME? WAIT UNTIL ANOTHER "ACCIDENT" HAPPENS? HOW CAN I GET IN TO GET A REPAIR? TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE PARKING, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME STUCK, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO CRASH THROUGH A GUARDRAIL AND LAND ON ITS ROOF. THE CONTACT DID NOT SUSTAIN ANY INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. MY WIFE WAS DROPPING MY DAUGHTER TO SCHOOL BUS STOP AND WHEN SHE WENT O GET THE LETTERS IN OUR GATED COMMUNITY MAIL.BOX , SHE WAS ABOUT TO STOP IN THE PARKING SPACE WHEN THE CAR ACCELERATE BY IT SELF,CAUSING HER INJURY AND CAR AND PROPERTY DAMAGES. SHE SAYS SHE COULDN'T CONTROL THE CAR AND THE CAR HIT THE CURB DAMAGING THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR,THE HOOD, FRONT BUMPER, FENDER,PASSENGER HEADLIGHT ,AND RADIATOR AND CONDENSER AND ALSO THE WINDSHIELD. THE CAR AIRBAG DIDN'T COME OUT AT ANY TIME. CAUSING HER INJURY IN HER HEAD AND SHOULDER. *TR

THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF AND UPON RESTARTING, THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO STATED THAT THE THROTTLE SENSOR WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
MY CAR IS 88000 MILES, ITS 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY STANDARD AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. ONE FINE DAY, WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, I GOT AN ENGINE LIGHT CHECK. I COULDN'T STOP ON THE ROAD, SO TOOK AN EXIT AND WHEN I SLOWED DOWN WHILE ON THE EXIT RAMP THE ENGINE STOPPED SUDDENLY. I THOUGH ITS ONE OFF INCIDENT AND START IT AGAIN AND STARTED DRIVING, BUT AT THE NEXT IMMEDIATE SIGNAL LIGHT, I HAD TO STOP FOR THE RED LIGHT AND THE ENGINE STOPPED AGAIN. I GOT IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST CAR MECHANIC, THEY SAID, IT'S THE ENGINE LOCKED PROBLEM AND IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I WANTED TO GET A SECOND OPINION AND GOT IT TOWED TO ANOTHER MECHANIC, HE TOLD THE SAME, ENGINE LOCKED. IF I WERE TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER SHOP THEY WOULD TAKE EXORBITANT AMOUNT OF MONEY TO JUST FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM. I AM EXTREMELY PISSED THAT TOYOTA CAMRY ENGINE WOULD FAIL FOR 88,000 MILES. TR
I HAD PARKED IN A PARKING SPACE AND WAS GOING TO OPEN MY DRIVERS DOOR TO GET OUT. I HAD MY KEYS IN MY HAND AND WAS REACHING OVER TO GET MY PURSE. I SUDDENLY REALIZED I WAS NOT IN MY PARKING PLACE AND HAD ROLLED BACKWARDS (LOT WAS ON A SLOPE) AND HAD HIT THE RESTAURANTS GARBAGE CAN. I DISCOVERED AT THAT POINT THAT MY CAR WAS NOT IN PARK AND THE IGNITION WAS TURNED OFF. IN FURTHER CHECKING I NOW KNOW I CAN REMOVE MY CAR KEYS AT ANYTIME. ENGINE RUNNING OR TURNED OFF, CAR IN PARK OR NOT. IT DOES NOT MATTER. I CAN BE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND REMOVE MY KEYS.THE SAFETY FACTOR OF KEYS NOT COMING OUT OF THE IGNITION UNLESS THE CAR IS IN PARK AND TURNED OFF IS NOT THERE. DATE OF INCIDENT IS APPROXIMATE BUT I CAN VERIFY IF NEEDED WITH THE INSURANCE COMPANY AS THE RESTAURANT PUT IN A CLAIM FOR THE DENT ON THEIR GARBAGE CAN. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY LE, I BOUGHT GOODYEAR ASSURANCE TIRES BACK IN MAY 2010 AS A SET OF 4 TIRES. THESE TIRES HAVE A MANUFACTURER WARRANTY OF 80000 MILES THOUGH AFTER DRIVING FOR ABOUT 35000 MILES THE TIRE TREAD DEPTH CAME DOWN TO BELOW 2/32ND AND THE DEALER DENIED TAKING THE CAR OUT OF DEALERSHIP WITHOUT A REPLACEMENT OR AN ASSURANCE OF IMMEDIATE REPLACEMENT. I HAD TO REPLACE THE TIRE WITHIN 2 HRS AFTER COMING OUT OF DEALERSHIP AS THEY DIDN'T HAVE A READY AVAILABLE TIRE FROM NON-GOODYEAR BRAND. I AM WONDERING HOW THIS TIRES GOT DOWN TO SUCH A LOW TREAD DEPTH SO SOON? I MOSTLY DRIVE IN THE CITY AND ONLY FEW TIME HIGHWAY THAT TOO NOT MORE THAN 300 MILES. THIS CERTAINLY IS THE WORST TIRES. GOODYEAR DENIED PROVIDING THE WARRANTY COVERAGE AS TO DO SO I HAVE TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THEIR AUTHORIZED SHOP AND THE DEALERSHIP IS NOT ONE OF THEIR AUTHORIZED SHOP, WHICH IS SURPRISING. SINCE DEALER TOLD ME TO REPLACE THE TIRE IMMEDIATELY, MY FIRST PRIORITY WAS TO GET NEW TIRES AND WITH SUCH WORST EXPERIENCE WITH GOODYEAR, I DIDN'T WANTED THEM AGAIN. AND THEY WILL NOT ACCEPT THEIR TIRE FOR WARRANTY IF THEY ARE NOT ON THE WHEEL. VERY RIDICULOUS RULES THAT PUTS GREEDY PROFIT BEFORE SAFETY! MY DEALER ALSO FOUND THIS ODD. PURCHASED THIS CAR IN JULY AND FROM THE DAY AFTER WE BOUGHT THIS CAR HAVE EXPERIENCE PROBLEMS WITH THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE SEATBELT WHEN PULLED OUR FOR LARGER PEOPLE TO BUCKLE THE SEAT BELT FOLDS OR ROLLS OVER BINDING THE SEAT BELT LOCK AND NOT ALLOWING THE SEAT BELT TO FUNCTION PROPERLY. WITH SOME MANIPULATION YOU CAN GET THE SEAT BELT TO RELEASE BUT THE NEXT TIME THE LARGER PERSON ATTEMPTS TO PUT THE SEAT BELT ON THE SEAT IS AGAIN FOLDED OVER AND DOES NOT LOCK PROPERLY. I HAVE SEEN OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE AS WELL AS TOOK IT IN FOR ALTERNATE WORK IN WHICH I HEARD SOMEONE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM SO SEVERE THAT THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO GET THE SEAT BELT TO LOCK ANY FURTHER. PURCHASED THE CAR ON JULY 17, 2013 IN WHICH I FELT A SHAKING IN THE WHEEL AND A SEVER RATTLE IN THE STEERING WHEEL. I WAS ASSURED BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE CAR NEEDED NEW TIRES AND A BALANCE. (THE TIRES WERE BAD-DEALERSHIP WAS SELLING AS IS) PURCHASED NEW TIRES AND HAD THEM BALANCED IN WHICH THE CAR CONTINUES TO SHAKE AND RATTLE IN THE STEERING WHEEL. I HAVE NOW OWNED THIS CAR FOR 1 YR AND TRIED EVERYTHING POSSIBLE, NOW I FIND OUT IT MAY BE THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT. THE TOTAL COST FOR THE PART ITSELF + LABOR AND TAXES TOTALED 1155.99! UP UNTIL NOW, I HAVEN'T HAD ANY ISSUE WITH THE CAR EXCEPT THIS. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE IF IT DOES NOT GET RESOLVED. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT IT HAD A FEW STEERING ISSUES. TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND HAD THEM REPLACE THE FRONT TIE ROD END AND WAS STILL NOTICING THE CLICK/CLUNK IN THE STEERING AS I WOULD TURN. I THEN TOOK IT TO TOYOTA TO HAVE RECALLS PERFORMED THAT HAD NOT BEEN DONE BY THE PRIOR OWNER AND MENTIONED THIS TO THEM. THEY SAID THAT IT WAS VERY MINOR BUT THAT IT WAS THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT AND I DIDN'T NEED TO WORRY ABOUT IT. THEY PERFORMED THE RECALLS. I HAVE RESEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PART FAILING AND MOST ALL AGREE THAT THE UNIT IS FAULTY AND SOME HAVE BEEN TOLD THIS BY THEIR TOYOTA MECHANICS. I ALSO FOUND WHERE THE RECALL ON PRIUS AND COROLLA'S WERE FOR THE SAME THING. I TEND TO BELIEVE THAT THE RECALL MAY NEED TO BE EXTENDED TO OTHER TOYOTA MODELS INCLUDING THE CAMRY. I SERIOUSLY AM CONCERNED ABOUT MY SAFETY HOWEVER HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE PROBLEM IS MINOR. *TR
