I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW IN 2005, AND I AM THE PRIMARY DRIVER OF THIS VEHICLE. WHILE DRIVING TO THE STORE I SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING, WHEN I PULLED INTO THE PARKING LOT OF THE STORE I SAW A LOT OF SMOKE COMING FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR. I IMMEDIATELY STOPPED THE CAR AND SMOKE STARTED FILLING THE CABIN OF THE CAR. I INSTRUCTED MY 11 YEAR OLD SON WHO WAS SITTING THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT TO OPEN THE DOOR AND EXIT THE CAR. WHEN HE OPENED THE DOOR FLAMES STARTED COMING OUT OF THE DOOR LATCH AREA. I TURNED THE IGNITION OFF AND RAN TO THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR AND POURED A BOTTLE OF WATER ON THE LATCH AREA ON THE DOOR. THE FIRE WENT OUT FOR A SECOND THEN REIGNITED. I THEN REALIZED THAT IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL FIRE AND DISCONNECTED THE BATTERIES POSITIVE CABLE. I THEN RIPPED THE DOOR PANEL OFF AND POURED MORE WATER DOWN THE INSIDE OF THE DOOR PUTTING THE FIRE OUT. AFTER INSURING THAT THE FIRE WAS OUT I FOUND THE FUSE THAT SUPPLIED THE POWER TO THE PASSENGER DOOR AND PULLED IT, I THEN RECONNECTED THE BATTERY CABLE BACK AND STARTED THE CAR. THE PASSENGER DOOR WOULD NOT LATCH CLOSED. SO I TIED A ROPE TO THE INSIDE DOOR HANDLE TO HOLD IT CLOSED SO I COULD DRIVE IT HOME. NO ONE WAS INJURED DURING THIS INCIDENT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THE THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO REVERSE IN RAINY WEATHER CONDITIONS, THE GEAR WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO REVERSE. THE CONTACT PLACED THE GEAR INTO DRIVE WITH THE BRAKES DEPRESSED TO RELEASE THE GEAR SHIFTER AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED RAPIDLY. THE CONTACT HAD TO CRASH THE VEHICLE INTO AN ELECTRICAL BOX TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP. THE CONTACT RECEIVED INJURIES TO THE LEG. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
I WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 65MPH BEHIND ANOTHER VEHICLE. A BED FLEW OUT OF A TRAILER IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE I WAS BEHIND, CAUSING THE DRIVER TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES; I ALSO SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES, BUT WAS NOT ABLE TO AVOID A COLLISION. THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME ALSO HAD A BIKE RACK ATTACHED TO THE BUMPER, I HIT THE CAR WITH NO TIME TO FULLY STOP. MY CAR WAS COMPLETELY; AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. MYSELF, ALONG WITH THREE PASSENGERS IN MY CAR SUFFERED MINOR TO MODERATE INJURIES. *TR
THE DRIVER'S SEAT BELT STOPPED RETRACTING AND DOES NOT HAVE THE "G" FORCE NECESSARY TO PROTECT FROM HITTING THE STEERING WHEEL IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT. I HAD THE BELT UNTANGLED WHILE RECEIVING MAINTENANCE AT THE DEALERSHIP IN JUNE, BUT IN 2 DAYS THE BELT TWISTED UP AGAIN AND STILL DOES NOT RETRACT. I TRIED TO DISCUSS THE SITUATION WITH THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY TOLD ME I WOULD HAVE TO PAY ABOUT $350.00 TO GET THE UNIT REPLACED. SINCE THIS DEFECT AFFECTS MY SAFETY AND CARRIES A HIGH POTENTIAL FOR A FATALITY (NOT TO MENTION DRIVING ILLEGALLY WITH A LOOSE BELT), I FEEL TOYOTA SHOULD RECALL THIS INCIDENT AND REPLACE DEFECTIVE SEAT BELTS AT NO CHARGE. I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL WEBSITES WITH SIMILAR COMPLAINTS AT AUTOMOBILE.COM, ARFC.ORG, AND CAR COMPLAINTS.COM. THERE'S A 10 YEAR RUST-THRU WARRANTY ON THE BODY, WHY SHOULDN'T THERE BE A SIMILAR WARRANTY THAT AFFECTS OUR VERY SAFETY? DOES IT TAKE A FATALITY TO GET ANY RECOURSE? YOUR FEEDBACK WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE TRAVELING 30 MPH THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE AND NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
THE ELECTRIC DRIVER SIDE MIRROR QUIT OPERATING. IT FIRST QUIT MOVING UP AND DOWN AND NOW IT WILL NOT MOVE SIDE TO SIDE. APPEARS TO BE A SHORT FROM AN ELECTRICAL DEFECT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TURNING LEFT AT 2 MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE CONTACT'S DRIVER'S SIDE. THE SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAGS ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE DID NOT DEPLOY. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT BODY SHOP WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 114,000.
I WAS ENTERING MY PARKING SPOT. I WAS COMING TO A HALT WHEN SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE BOLTED FORWARD AT FULL ACCELERATION, JUMPED THE CURB, SPED ACROSS THE GRASS, AND CRASHED INTO A TREE. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. I SUSTAINED NECK AND RIB INJURIES. TOYOTA HAS THE VEHICLE AND WILL SHORTLY SEND ME THE RESULTS OF THE EDR DATA ANALYSIS. *JS
CAR WAS PARKED IN DRIVEWAY. THE KEY WAS REMOVED FROM IGNITION. THE CAR DRIFTED DOWN THE DRIVEWAY IN REVERSE INTO A TREE, CAUSING APPROXIMATELY $7000 IN DAMAGE TO CAR. TESTING OF THE CAR LATER REVEALED THAT THE KEY COULD BE REMOVED FROM IGNITION WHEN THE CAR WAS NOT IN PARK. TOYOTA IS CURRENTLY INVESTIGATING. *JS THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED AND LATER RETURNED TO HIM. HE ASSUMED THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN REPAIRED. THERE WAS NO MENTION OF THE INSPECTION OR WHAT HAD BEEN DONE TO HIS VEHICLE. ON MAY 27TH, THE CONSUMER'S WIFE WAS DRIVING AND SHE NOTICED THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DOWNSHIFTED INTO SECOND GEAR. THE CONSUMER CHECKED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THE IGNITION AND TRANSMISSION PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN. THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A LETTER OUTLINING THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO SPILLED SODA THAT CAUSED THE IGNITION INTERLOCK SYSTEM TO STICK. UPDATED IVOQ 07/03/12
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHITE SMOKE EMITTED FROM THE EXHAUST PIPE UPON STARTING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE WAS LEAKING OIL. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE ENTIRE ENGINE WOULD BE DESTROYED WITHIN A FEW MONTHS IF IT WERE NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP ON THREE OCCASIONS WHERE VARIOUS REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 113,770.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATIONS OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 11V539000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR RECALL REPAIRS. THE DEALER STATED TO THE CONTACT THAT THE CRANK SHAFT PULLEY WAS NOT DEFECTIVE. THE CONTACT HOWEVER STATED THAT HE HAD EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS WITH THE POWER STEERING, AS STATED IN THE RECALL. THE DEALER SUGGESTED TO THE CONTACT TO REPLACE THE POWER STEERING PUMP. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING THE DENIAL OF RECALL REPAIRS AND THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO STAND BY THE DECISION OF THE TECHNICIANS AT THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000.

I PULLED OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY WITH MY 91 YR GRANDMOTHER.THE ENGINE SHUT OFF AT THE FIRST STOP LIGHT IN TRAFFIC.I RESTARTED THE ENGINE,SLIGHTLY PUSHED ON THE GAS PEDAL.THE ENGINE REVVED HIGH ON ITS OWN,THE CAR VIOLENTLY SHOT FORWARD, I MANAGED TO TURN THE CORNER THEN THE ENGINE DIED.A MOTORIST PULLED OVER AND HELPED ME PUSH THE CAR INTO A NEARBY SCHOOL PARKING LOT.AFTER A FEW MINUTES I RESTATED THE CAR AND IT REVVED UP ITSELF ,ACCELERATED TOO FAST AND DIED.I HAD TO CALL A TOW TRUCK TO TAKE IT HOME AND AGAIN ON MONDAY TO THE REPAIR SHOP.THE MECHANIC DETERMINED IT WAS A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY,IT HAD FROZEN IN A WIDE OPEN POSITION,NOT RESPONDING TO THE GAS PEDAL..THE SOLUTION WAS A BRAND NEW THROTTLE BODY,PART COST WAS WELL OVER $900 DOLLARS.I STILL HAVE THE DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY,THE PLATE IS STILL FROZEN IN AN OPEN POSITION.MY GRANDMOTHER WAS WELL FRIGHTENED.THERE WAS NO POLICE REPORT. I BELIEVE THIS WAS A VERY DANGEROUS DESIGN FLAW AND HOPE TOYOTA WILL REIMBURSE ME. *TR

CONSUMER EXPRESS DISCONTENT WITH VEHICLE REPAIRS AND REQUEST REIMBURSEMENT *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT WAS REPLACED, BECAUSE THERE WAS A NOISE EMANATING FROM THE VEHICLE, WHEN THE CONSUMER TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL. THE CONSUMER STATED THE PART FAILED WITH ONLY 33,103 MILES ON THE VEHICLE.
I STOPPED MY CAR AT MY MAILBOX AT THE FOOT OF MY 45% INCLINE SHORT DRIVEWAY AND PUT IT IN PARK WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING. AFTER GETTING OUT TO GET MY MAIL, I RE-ENTERED THE CAR, PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE, AND TOUCHED THE ACCELERATOR. THE CAR ENGINE "ROARED" MORE LOUDLY THAN I HAD EVER HEARD AND LUNGED FORWARD UPHILL TOWARDS MY BRICK HOME. I SLAMMED THE BRAKE PEDAL ONE TIME AS HARD AS I COULD AND THE CAR STOPPED. I HAD NOT EXPECTED IT TO STOP. THERE WAS NO COLLISION, BUT THANK GOD I DID NOT KILL OR INJURE SOME INNOCENT PERSON OR MYSELF. I NOW REFUSE TO DRIVE THE CAR, WHICH IS A REAL PROBLEM FOR ME AND MY FAMILY. I UNDERSTAND YOUR AGENCY HAS FAILED TO FORCE TOYOTA TO INCLUDE THE 2005 MODEL IN YOUR RECALL TO INSTALL NEW BRAKING SYSTEM OVERRIDE. THIS IS UNCONSCIONABLE. *KB
THIS INFORMATION IS IN ADDITION TO ODI 10617939 SUBMITTED EARLIER TODAY. THE RACK AND PINION INSTALLED AT 50946 MILES FAILED. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE PART AND I WAS CHARGED ANOTHER $450 FOR LABOR PLUS INCIDENTALS. WITHIN 4 MONTHS OF THE REPLACEMENT, CLICKING SYMPTOMS SLOWLY RETURNED IN THE STEERING. I'VE ONLY PUT ANOTHER 12K ON THE CAR SINCE 2011 AND WILL RIDE IT OUT UNTIL THE CLICK TURNS BACK INTO A CLUNK. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO LOCATED THE FAILURE WITHIN THE DOOR POWER SWITCH AND REPLACED IT. THE MANUFACTURER DENIED ASSISTANCE WITH THE REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 73,000.
MY VEHICLE WAS IDLING IN MY DRIVEWAY WHEN IT CAUGHT ON FIRE, MECHANIC STATED IT WAS A DEFECTIVE FUEL INJECTOR. *TR
FRONT PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT WILL NOT RETRACT RENDERING IT TOTALLY USELESS. IF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT/STATES MANDATE SEAT BELTS THEN IT SHOULD MANDATE THAT DEALERSHIPS REPLACE DEFECTIVE SEAT BELTS. IT AMAZES ME THAT THE GOVERNMENT HAS NOT FORCED THE CAR COMPANIES TO ISSUE A RECALL FOR THIS SERIOUS PROBLEM. *TR
MY 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY LE WAS TRAVELING AT ROUGHLY 35 MPH WHEN IT CRASHED INTO THE REAR END OF A JEEP CHEROKEE. THE ACCIDENT WAS A HEAD ON COLLISION, WHICH TOTALED THE CAMRY. THE AIRBAGS FOR THE CAMRY DID NOT DEPLOY. THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF THE CAMRY, INCLUDING THE BUMPER WAS DESTROYED. DAMAGES EXTENDED TO THE FRAME AND ALL FRONT END PARTS. I HAVE PICTURES OF THE DAMAGE IF NEEDED. I SPOKE WITH TOYOTA AND FILED A COMPLAINT, BUT THEIR RESPONSE WAS LESS THAN SATISFACTORY. THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH DAMAGE TO THE BUMPER TO CAUSE THE AIRBAG TO DEPLOY, AND TOLD ME THAT THERE ARE ONLY SPECIFIC SITUATIONS IN WHICH THE AIRBAGS DEPLOY. MY POSITION IS THAT THIS WAS A DIRECT HEAD ON COLLISION THAT DESTROYED MY 2005 CAMRY; THEIR WAS FRONT END FRAME DAMAGE, AND EVERY FRONT END PART FROM HEAD LIGHT TO HEAD LIGHT WAS DESTROYED IN THE ACCIDENT. MY DAUGHTER WAS HURT IN THE ACCIDENT, AND THIS WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED IF THE AIR BAG HAD DEPLOYED AS ADVERTISED BY TOYOTA. *TR
PURCHASED 4 MASTERCRAFT GLACIERGRIP TIRES 12/11/10. DROVE 2451 MILES AND HAD REGULAR TIRES PUT BACK ON 3/17/11. PUT MASTERCRAFT TIRES BACK ON 11/17/11 AND DROVE 134 MILES WHEN LEFT FRONT TIRE BLEW OUT. I WAS ON I-81 SOUTH AND HAD TO DRIVE ON THE TIRE TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY. I WAS TOLD BE THE DEALER THEY WOULD HAVE TO SEND THE TIRE BACK TO THE COMPANY. THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULD HAVE TO CHARGE ME FOR A REPLACEMENT TIRE UNTIL HE HEARD FROM THE COMPANY. THEY NEVER CALLED ME BACK. FIVE WEEKS LATER I CALLED, FOR THE THIRD TIME, AND WAS TOLD IT WAS DENIED. I DROVE ON THE TIRES ANOTHER 2891 MILES AND THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE BLEW OUT. I WENT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY TOOK THAT TIRE TO SEND BACK TO THE COMPANY AND ASKED IF THEY COULD PULL THE BACK TWO TIRES TO LOOK AT THEM. I SAID OKAY AND I WAS TOLD THEY WERE FINE. I WENT DIRECTLY TO ANOTHER TIRE INSTALLER, 8 MILES AWAY, TO GET THE TIRES OFF AND PUT THE REGULAR TIRES BACK ON THE CAR. WHEN THE INSTALLER PULLED THE LEFT REAR TIRE OFF, THE SAME ONE THAT WAS JUST INSPECTED, THERE WAS A HUGE BUBBLE ON IT. HE TOLD ME THE TIRE WAS DEFECTIVE. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED THE TIRES AND WAS TOLD THEY WOULD HAVE TO SEND THAT TIRE BACK TO THE COMPANY AS WELL. IT'S OVER TWO WEEKS AND I HAVE NOT BEEN CONTACTED. *TR
I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT IN FRONT OF A FRIEND'S TOWNHOUSE WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR BY PUTTING BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE. THE CAR STOPPED ABOUT ONE FOOT BEFORE CRASHING INTO THE FRONT WALL OF THE TOWNHOUSE. ALTHOUGH I HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM SINCE THIS INCIDENT, I AM NOW SOMEWHAT AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR NOW, NOR DO I FEEL RIGHT ABOUT SELLING THE CAR. *TR
TOYOTA DEALER COMPLETED A 90,000 MILE CHECK AND REPORTED A LEAK ON THE RACK AND PINION WITH NO OTHER DAMAGE TO THE AREA. DEALER QUOTED APPROXIMATELY $1900 TO REPAIR. A INDEPENDENT MECHANIC REPLACED THE RACK AND PINION AND COMPLETED THE ALIGNMENT FOR APPROXIMATELY $900. *TR
THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEATBEALT DOES NOT FUNCTION, RESTRAIN, OR RETRACT!! THE SEATBELT HAS BEEN A CONSTANT DEFECT. IT HAS NEVER RETRACTED PROPERLY IN THE DOOR. MOST OF IF ENDS UP SHUT IN THE DOOR BECAUSE IT HANGS OUT SO FAR! NOW IT IS A HUGE PROBLEM BECAUSE IT IS STUCK HALFWAY OUT AND DOES NOT REACH THE FASTENER. IT WILL NOT BUDGE. CONSEQUENTLY, I HAVE HAD TO DRIVE TO WORK WITHOUT A SEATBELT. IT IS USELESS. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE LETTING ANYONE ELSE DRIVE IT. I WAS TOLD BY TOYOTA CORPORATION THAT I WILL BE CHARGED $97 JUST FOR A DEALER TO LOOK AT IT ("DIAGNOSE IT") AND THEN UP TO $200-300 TO REPAIR IT. THE TWO PEOPLE I SPOKE WITH FROM THE TOYOTA CORPORATION TRIED TO WASH THEIR HANDS OF THE ISSUE BY SAYING, "IT IS THE DEALERSHIPS' RESPONSIBILITY. WE CAN NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. WE ARE JUST THE NAME. " HOWEVER, AFTER MUCH RESEARCH, I DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS A HIGHLY PROLIFIC PROBLEM WITH THE 2005 CAMRY BY THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ONLINE AND THROUGH CAR SAFETY FORUMS (AND ON THIS SITE). DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO BE KILLED OR INJURED BEFORE TOYOTA CORPORATION ACKNOWLEDGES IT IS THEIR RESPONSIBILITY AND IT IS A DEFECT- AND THAT IT SHOULD BE RECALLED? *TT
APPROX 1 YEAR AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR, THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON SHOWING THE AIR BAG WAS NOT WORKING. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE TOYOTA DEALER AND WAS TOLD THEY WOULD HAVE TO RECALIBRATE IT, AND I WAS CHARGED APPROXIMATELY $90.00 FOR THE WORK.. IT WORKED FOR APPROXIMATELY 2 WEEKS, AT WHICH TIME THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN SHOWING THE AIR BAG WAS NOT WORKING. MY 2005 CAMRY HAS 53000 ON IT, VERY WELL MAINTAINED. WAS DRIVING 25 MPH ON A TRAVERSE WHEN THE ENGINE SUDDENLY DIED. I TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR WITHOUT SUCCESS. CALLED A TOWING SERVICE, HOWEVER, 10 MINUTES LATER I WAS ABLE TO START THE CAR AND DROVE HOME. THE "SERVICE ENGINE" LIGHT REMAINED ON. AT FIRST CHANCE I DROVE MY CAR TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC WHO TOLD ME IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY, BUT SUGGESTED TO BRING MY CAR TO THE TOYOTA DEALER BECAUSE HE HAD SEEN SO MANY OF CAMRY THROTTLE MALFUNCTIONS THAT HE THOUGHT THERE MIGHT BE A RECALL. I TOOK HIS ADVICE, BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER WHO CONFIRMED THAT MY THROTTLE BODY WAS BAD AND NEEDED REPLACING. HOWEVER HE TOLD ME THAT HE COULD NOT GUARANTEE THAT THE "SERVICE ENGINE" LIGHT WOULD NOT GO OFF UNLESS I HAD AN ENGINE FLUSH AND A FULL TUNE-UP. THIS DID NOT SIT WELL WITH ME, SO I DECLINED THE SERVICES. I PAID HIM $100 AS A DIAGNOSTIC FEE. WHEN HE WENT TO GET MY CAR, THE ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN ON AT ALL. I CALLED A TOWING COMPANY WHO TOOK IT BACK TO MY MECHANIC. HE REPLACED THE THROTTLE AND RESET THE SERVICE LIGHT. THE CAR IS NOW RUNNING, BUT BECAUSE OF MY MECHANIC'S STATEMENT AND MANY SIMILAR THROTTLE COMPLAINTS RECORDED ON THE INTERNET, I STRONGLY FEEL THAT THE THROTTLE ISSUE SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED. *KB

I HAVE BEEN AN EXTREMELY SAFE DRIVER FOR 21 YEARS. TWO INCIDENTS OF UNINTENDED ACCELERATION OCCURRED WITHIN ONE HOUR YESTERDAY AFTERNOON WITH MY 2005 CAMRY 2005 LE. I WAS WAITING FOR THE OTHER CAR TO PASS BEFORE I COULD TURN LEFT WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY TRIED TO ACCELERATED BY ITSELF EVEN THOUGH MY FOOT WAS FIRMLY PRESSING THE BRAKE. DURING THIS BRIEF STRUGGLE BETWEEN ME AND THE CAR, THE ENGINE MADE SOME LOW, GRINDING NOISE, AND THE CAR WAS ABLE TO MOVE FORWARD TWICE, ABOUT 6 INCHES EACH TIME, DESPITE MY HARD FOOT BRAKING. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS UNDETERMINED, BUT THE REPRESENTATIVE STATED THAT THERE WAS CORROSION FOUND ON THE AIR CONDITIONER HOSE. WE WERE DENIED ASSISTANCE SINCE OUR WE DO NOT MAINTAIN SERVICE THROUGH A TOYOTA DEALER AND THE CAR IS 10,000 MILES OUT OF POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. MY 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY (70,000 MILES) STALLED YESTERDAY AS MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR TO DROP MY SON TO SCHOOL YESTERDAY AND THE CAR STALLED RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD IN BUSY TRAFFIC. MY 8 YEAR OLD SON WAS TERRIFIED WHEN THE CAR SIMPLY STOPPED ON A BUSY STATE ROAD. AS MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR SHE SUDDENLY REALIZED THAT IN SPITE OF PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL THE CAR WAS NOT ACCELERATING AND THEN SHE REALIZED THAT THE CAR HAD STALLED. THIS CAR HAS BEEN MAINTAINED WITH REGULAR SERVICES AT A TOYOTA DEALER. I HAVE DROPPED MY CAR AT THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER AND THEY ADVISED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE COST TO GET THIS REPAIRED IS ABOUT $1200, WHICH BY NO MEANS IS A SMALL AMOUNT. AFTER SEARCHING ON THE INTERNET IT LOOKS LIKE THERE ARE MANY TOYOTA CAMRY OWNERS (MODEL 04 THROUGH 06) WHO HAVE HAD TO GO THROUGH THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM. SO IT DEFINITELY LOOKS LIKE A WIDESPREAD AND NOT A ONE OFF ISSUE. IT NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED FURTHER.
