TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT DECELERATE. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE AS IT ACCELERATED INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND CRASHED HEAD-ON INTO A VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND THE CONTACT WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL FOR TREATMENT OF A HEAD INJURY. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS BOTH NOTIFIED BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED TO THE CONTACT. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
ON 1/10/11THE "CHECK ENGINE", "TRAC OFF", AND "VSC" WARNING LIGHTS IN MY 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY XLE V-6 VEHICLE BECAME ACTIVATED. THE MILEAGE WAS 89961.SERVICE ADVISOR [XXX] AT VANDERGRIFF TOYOTA IN ARLINGTON, TX. ADVISED THAT THE WARNING LIGHTS HAD BEEN ACTIVATED BECAUSE ONE OF THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS WAS DEFECTIVE AND WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OSF APPR. $1500. TO RESTORE THE TWO SAFETY FUNCTIONS. [XXX], A CUSTOMER SERVICE SUPV. AT THE TOYOTA 800 NUMBER CONFIRMED THAT THE TWO SAFETY FUNCTIONS WERE DISABLED WHEN THE WARNING LIGHTS WERE ON AND THAT THEY COULD NOT BE RESTORED UNLESS THE DEFECTIVE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS REPLACED, IE, THE COMPUTER COULD NOT BE RESET TO RESTORE THE SAFETY FUNCTIONS. THE VEHICLE OPERATES NORMALLY, BUT I HAVE BEEN DEPRIVED OF THE USE OF THE " TRAC " AND " VSC" SAFETY FUNCTIONS FOR WHICH I PAID EXTRA SINCE THESE FUNCTIONS WERE OPTIONS WHEN I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE NEW AT STEVINSON TOYOTA IN GOLDEN, CO. WE HAVE A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. WE PURCHASED IT THIS YEAR. WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL INSTANCES THAT WHEN THE DRIVER EXITS THE CAR AND THE SEAT BELT STARTS TO RETRACT IT TWISTS AND GET STUCK IN THE GUIDE. MY WIFE IS UNABLE TO GET IT UNTWISTED AND HAS TO DRIVE IT WITH THE BELT LOOSE AND USELESS. WHEN SHE GETS HOME I HAVE TO USE SOME SORT OF TOOL TO GET IT STRAIGHTENED OUT IN THE GUIDE AND GET IT TO RETRACT. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY AND UNSAFE CONDITION AND I FEEL A CAUSE FOR A RECALL AS I HAVE READ ON LINE OF SEVERAL PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR MANY YEAR IN MANY MODELS WITH OUT EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. I HAS TO BE A DESIGN FLAW. OTHER WISE IT'S A NICE CAR. I HOPE YOU ARE ABLE TO TAKE ACTION ON THIS SAFETY ISSUE. ON JAN 8, 2011 I MADE A 2-HOUR ROUND TRIP ON A FEDERAL HIGHWAY. I USED CRUISE CONTROL ON MY 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 65 & 70 MILES PER HOUR, DEPENDING ON POSTED SPEEDS. I THOUGHT I WAS SAFE USING CRUISE CONTROL BECAUSE 2005 MODELS ARE NOT AMONG VEHICLES RECALLED IN RECENT YEARS...AS I APPROACHED MY EXIT RAMP AT THE END OF MY TRIP I STEPPED ON THE BRAKES, BUT THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK. NOT ONLY DID THE BRAKES NOT WORK, BUT MY CAR LURCHED FORWARD & ACCELERATED TOWARD THE CAR IN FRONT OF MINE, AS IF I HAD HIT THE "RESUME" FEATURE AFTER HAVING HIT THE "CANCEL" FEATURE. BUT I HAD NOT TOUCHED THOSE BUTTONS. IN FACT, I DO NOT USE THOSE BUTTONS. I USE THE BRAKES OR THE "ON/OFF" BUTTON TO TURN OFF SET SPEEDS BECAUSE USING THOSE FEATURES ALLOWS ME TO KEEP MY EYES ON THE ROAD. I PREFER TO USE THE "SET" FEATURE TO ENGAGE CRUISE CONTROL EACH TIME RATHER THAN THE "RESUME" CHOICE BECAUSE THE "SET" FEATURE PROVIDES SMOOTHER RIDES THAN THE "RESUME" FEATURE. ..I BARELY MISSED STRIKING THE CAR IN FRONT OF MINE AS I DOWNSHIFTED TO SLOW THE 2005 CAMRY. I CALLED THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP FROM WHICH I BOUGHT THE CAR & SPOKE TO A MANAGER OF THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. HE TOLD ME MY EXPERIENCE COULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP & EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM TO A DIFFERENT PERSON. THE MANAGER OF THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT APPEARED AND INSISTED I AGREE TO PAY $100 FOR TOYOTA TO LOOK AT THE CAR BECAUSE THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE SAME REPRESENTATIVE THEN SUGGESTED I WAS TRYING TO GET FREE SERVICE FROM TOYOTA. I REFUSED TO PAY FOR AN INSPECTION, ASKED TO SPEAK TO HIS SUPERVISOR & ONLY THEN DID THE REP RELENT TO INSPECT THE CAR WITHOUT PAYMENT. THE LOCAL REPS REPORTED THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM & CONCLUDED THE SYSTEMS WERE OPERATING AS DESIGNED. THE DEALER KEPT THE CAR 2 MORE DAYS SO AN INSPECTOR TRAVELING FROM DC COULD EXAMINE THE CAR. THE EXPERT REACHED THE SAME CONCLUSIONS AS LOCAL FOLKS. APPARENTLY IN THIS VEHICLE WHEN THE OXYGEN SENSORS FAIL THEY ALSO CAUSE A FAULT IN THE VEHICLE'S TRACTION AND STABILITY CONTROL WHICH DISABLES THE SYSTEM. WE HAVE REPEATEDLY REPLACED THE OXYGEN SENSORS ONLY IN AN EFFORT TO RESTORE THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEMS FOR THE SAKE OF SAFETY. THERE IS LITTLE SENSE IN TYING SAFETY SYSTEMS TO EMISSIONS CONTROL SYSTEMS AND THE REPAIR SHOP SAYS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. IT IS UNFAIR TO HAVE TO PAY $600 TO REPLACE OXYGEN SENSORS IN ORDER TO RESTORE A SAFETY SYSTEM ...AND THE OXYGEN SENSORS FAIL REPEATEDLY. *TR
TL*THE DRIVER OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD AND CRASHED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DRIVER WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL VIA AMBULANCE DUE TO THE INJURIES SUSTAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INSURANCE LOT AND THE CONTACT WAS UNSURE IF THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT EXAMINED TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE AND IT WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNKNOWN.

LAG TIME ON ACCELERATING, ALSO WHEN COMING TO A STOP DOES NOT DOWNSHIFT SMOOTHLY AND PROPERLY, RATHER IT STUTTERS AND CLUNKS. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM FOR YEARS. THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY AS WELL AS IN MOTION AT ANY SPEED THERE IS A HESITATION BEFORE ACCELERATING. STOPPING THE VEHICLE FAILS TO DOWN SHIFT IN A SMOOTH DECLINE OF GEARS. POSSIBLE ELECTRONIC PROBLEM WITH THE BREAKING ! POSSIBLE ELECTRONIC ACCELERATOR UNIT !
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES SUDDENLY BECAME STUCK WHEN SHE DEPRESSED THE PEDAL TO SLOW DOWN; SHE WAS UNABLE TO MOVE FORWARD OR BACKWARDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRONT LEFT CALIPER LOCKED UP; IT WAS REPLACED AT THAT TIME. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 70,000.
2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. CONSUMER STATES SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED AS SHE BACKED OUT OF A PARKING SPACE, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED IN REVERSE AND CRASHED INTO TWO UNOCCUPIED PARKED VEHICLES. THE CONSUMER STATED SHE APPLIED THE BRAKE AND SHIFTED INTO DRIVE. THE ACCELERATOR REMAINED STUCK AND THE VEHICLE THEN SHOT FORWARD AND WENT OVER A BERM AT THE EDGE OF THE PARKING LOT. SHE CAREENED 25 FEET DOWN A STEEP EMBANKMENT AND STRUCK A TREE. THE TREE STOPPED HER VEHICLE FROM ROLLING OVER FOR 50 MORE FEET TO THE BOTTOM OF A RAVINE. *JB THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING INTO HER GARAGE, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND CRASHED THROUGH THE CENTER OF THE GARAGE WALL. THE VEHICLE STOPPED WHEN IT CRASHED INTO A STOCK OF WOODS. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO TOOK HER COMPLAINT AND STATED THAT AN ENGINEER WOULD BE IN CONTACT WITH HER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 48,857.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE CONTACT ENGAGED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND THERE WAS NO POWER RESPONSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THEY RESET A CODE WITHIN THE COMPUTERIZED SYSTEM UNDER ADVISEMENT OF THE DEALER. THE FAILURE REOCCURED ON A SEPARATE OCCASION AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY WOULD BE REPLACED WHEN THE PART BECAME AVAILABLE. THE REPAIR WOULD BE AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE. THERE WAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN NUMBER 0187-09, ISSUED THAT PERTAINED TO THE DEFECT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 35,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD SUDDENLY STALL WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE BEGAN OCTOBER 2010. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RELATED RECALLS. THE CONTACT DID NOT INFORM THE MANUFACTURER. I HAVE A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. I HAVE HAD MANY INSTANCES (MORE THAN 50% OF THE TIME WHEN I DRIVE THE CAR) THAT THE SEAT BELT TWISTS AND GETS STUCK IN THE GUIDE. IT IS NOT EASY TO UN-TWIST IT AND I HAVE TO DRIVE IT WITH THE BELT LOOSE. IT TAKES SOME TIME TO GET IT STRAIGHTENED OUT IN THE GUIDE AND GET IT TO RETRACT. 2005 CAMRY LE, 53,000 MILES. CAR STALLED, ENGINE DIED, CKECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. RESULTS OF CHECK UP. THROTTLE CONTROL BODY FAILURE. WHAT??? WHY??? *TR
2005 TOYOTA CAMRY SE (25,000 MILES) HAVING INTERMITTENT PROBLEM WHERE THE CAR DOES NOT RECOVER WHEN COMING OUT OF A TURN. THE STEERING WHEEL APPEARS TO BIND/LOCK AND DRIVER HAS TO MANUALLY TURN THE WHEEL TO MAKE THE CARE GO STRAIGHT. PROBLEM SEEMS TO HAPPEN PRIMARILY WHEN MAKING A LEFT ONTO A SEVERAL LANES OF TRAFFIC, NOT SO MUCH WITH SHARP TURNS. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION AND WAS TOLD THAT STEERING IS IN PROPER WORKING ORDER. I DID REPORT ANOTHER ISSUE WHERE A KNOCKING/BANGING SOUND WAS COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN WHEN GOING OVER UNEVEN PAVEMENT AT RELATIVELY SLOW SPEEDS BUT DEALER SAID THIS COULD MOST LIKELY BE RESOLVED BY GREASING THE ASSEMBLY, AN ITEM THAT WAS COVERED BY A PREVIOUS TSB BUT SINCE THE CAR WAS OVER 3 YEARS OLD, WAS NO LONGER COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. IF NOT REPAIRED THE, SOUND WOULD GET WORSE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO SHIFT INTO REVERSE THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES AND NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SURGED FORWARD WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT ALSO NOTICED THAT WHILE TRAVELING 15 MPH AND TURNING IN ANY DIRECTION THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD CONTINUE TO TURN IN THAT SAME DIRECTION ON ITS OWN. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, A LARGE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SWERVED INTO THE CONTACTS LANE. THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STOP ABRUPTLY DUE TO TRAFFIC, BUT BY THE TIME THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE, IT WAS TOO LATE AND SHE STRUCK THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HER. ALTHOUGH, SHE WAS WEARING HER SEAT BELT, HER HEAD STRUCK THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DRIVER SUFFERED INJURIES TO THE CHEST, RIBS AND RIGHT FOOT. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED HE WAS ABLE TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION WITHOUT SHUTTING THE ENGINE OFF. THE ENGINE REMAINED ON UNTIL HE PUT THE KEY BACK INTO THE IGNITION TO SHUT IT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE EXAMINED FOR THE CAUSE OF FAILURE AND HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 75,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH WHEN SHE BEGAN TO HEAR A CLICKING NOISE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE DID NOT RECUR. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,558.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING INTO A PARKING SPACE, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO A CONCRETE BARRIER AND A POOL. THE POOL FEEL ONTO ANOTHER VEHICLE NEXT TO THE PARKING LOT. NO ONE WAS INJURED DURING THE CRASH. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT STATED THE CRASH COULD HAVE CAUSED MAJOR DAMAGE TO OTHER IF THE VEHICLE DID NOT CRASH INTO THE POOL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IDLE IT WOULD SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO DRIVING 60 MPH AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AFTER A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE DEALER FOUND A FAULTY ACCELERATOR ASSEMBLY WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SHUT OFF. THE DEALER REPLACED THE ACCELERATOR ASSEMBLY AND THE FAILURE HAD NOT RECURRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 101,000.
PROBLEM WITH 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY PASSENGER SEAT BELT. THE PASSENGER SEAT BELT GETS "STUCK" WHEN TRYING TO LOCK BELT INTO LATCH. THIS RESULTS IN THE BELT EITHER NOT PROPERLY RETRACTING OR NOT ABLE TO EXTEND. THIS HAPPENS IN ABOUT 1 OUT OF EVERY 4 USES. *TR
REAR SPEAKER COVERS ARE DEFECTIVE-I NOTICE THE HOLES WERE GETTING LARGER AND TOUCHED THE SPEAKER AND IT FELL/CAVED IN! THE PIECES JUST FELL APART LIKE DUST. THESE PIECES FELL INSIDE AND NOW MAKING A CRACKLING SPARK NOISE AND IF OVERHEATED CAUSE A FIRE. IT IS OVER 100 DEGREES HERE IN DALLAS TEXAS. CONTACT TOYOTA AND REFUSE TO FIX THE $200.00 PROBLEM TO FIZ=X. TOYOTA HAS HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ONLINE FOR THE SAME PROBLEM SINCE 2003. TOYOTA WAS WELL AWARE OF THIS AND CONTINUED TO MAKE THE EXACT SPEAKER COVERS FOR 5 YRS. THEY PLACE THE BLAME ON THE WARRANTY UP AND OR CONTACT THE DEALER AS THEY DENY ITS THEIR FAULT & CLAIMS ITS MINE. I HAVE NO CHILDREN NOR SIT IN THE BACK OF THE CAR, THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I TOUCHED THE SPEAKER AND IT FELL IN. NOW CAUSING HEAT & SPARKS IN THE BACK OF THE CAR. MAY BE HAZARDOUS & CATCH FIRE. TOYOTA DENIED TO FIX AND CARELESSLY CONTINUED TO MAKE THE SAME DEFECTIVE PART AFTER RECEIVING NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS. *TR
2005 TOYOTA CAMRY LE. APPROXIMATELY 1 TO 2 SECONDS AFTER SHIFTING INTO REVERSE, ENGINE WENT INTO HIGH RPM AND ACCELERATED OUT OF GARAGE. DRIVER ALREADY HAD FOOT ON BRAKE PEDAL AND BRAKED HARD LEAVING SKID MARK (FROM RIGHT FRONT TIRE) OF APPROXIMATELY 24 - 30 INCHES IN LENGTH ON COATED GARAGE FLOOR. RIGHT SIDE MIRROR WAS RIPPED FROM CAR. REQUIRED APPROX. 10 FEET TO STOP. ENGINE DID NOT REMAIN AT HIGH RPM. (A/C MAY HAVE BEEN "ON". ENGINE WAS "COLD" - I.E., 1ST TIME STARTED THAT DAY; HOWEVER AMBIENT TEMPERATURE WAS IN MID-UPPER 70'S.) LATER THAT SAME MORNING, THE ENGINE AGAIN WENT TO HIGH RPM SHORTLY AFTER SHIFTING INTO REVERSE TO BACK OUT OF PARKING SPACE. DRIVER WAS PREPARED AND ABLE TO IMMEDIATELY STOP CAR. IF TOYOTA WOULD HAVE FIXED IT, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN OVER $1500.00, SO WE HAD IT TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THE REPAIR WAS $454.00 AND LOSS OF CAR FOR 7 DAYS. THE DIAGNOSIS WAS THE DIGITAL THROTTLE WAS BAD. YOU COULD PUSH THE PEDDEL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR WITH NO RESPONSE. IMAGINE BEING OUT ON THE INTERSTATE AND THIS HAPPENS. I ONLY HAVE 84,500 ON THIS CAR AND THIS HAPPENS. VERY CONCENED ABOUT THIS ON THE CAMRY. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS AS WELL. MY 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY XLE V6 CAR HAS SERIOUS TRANSMISSION ISSUES. IT HESITATES AND TAKES SEVERAL SECONDS AT SLOW SPEEDS TO FIND A GEAR TO SHIFT INTO. THE ENGINE REVS AND THE RPMS INCREASE BUT THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT ENGAGE. THIS IS ESPECIALLY TROUBLESOME WHEN MAKING TURNS AND MAKES ME VULNERABLE TO BEING REAR ENDED IN RIGHT HAND TURNS, BUT EXPOSES ME TO BEING BROADSIDED IN LEFT HAND TURNS. JUST LAST WEEK DURING A LEFT TURN MY CAR WOULD NOT ENGAGE AND I WAS EXTREMELY CLOSE TO HAVING THE PASSENGER SIDE WHERE MY CHILD SITS HIT! THIS CAR ALSO BUCKS SEVERAL TIMES WHEN ATTEMPTING TO SHIFT AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 25-35 MPH. THIS CAR HAS TROUBLE CLIMBING SMALL HILLS AND ALSO JERKS AND DOWNSHIFTS WHEN GOING DOWN HILLS, EVEN AT SLOW SPEEDS WHEN MY FOOT NEVER LETS PRESSURE OFF THE GAS PEDAL. AS I SAID THE MOST TROUBLESOME ISSUE IS WHEN IT HAS DIFFICULTY SELECTING A GEAR AT LOWER SPEEDS. MORE THAN JUST AN ANNOYANCE, IT IS INDEED A SAFETY ISSUE AND I AM NOW AFRAID THAT I MAY BE HIT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DURING LEFT HAND TURNS. THIS HAPPENS EVERY DAY THAT I DRIVE MY CAMRY. THE NEXT TIME I TOOK MY CAMRY IN FOR SERVICE AND COMPLAINED AGAIN ABOUT THE ISSUE THEY SAID THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN PUT OUT BY TOYOTA ABOUT RESETTING THE COMPUTER AND THEY THEN PERFORMED THIS MAINTENANCE. THE CRASH BOUNCED MY CAR BACK OVER A FOOT AND A HALF. I WENT FROM A TOTAL STOP TO A "RUN AWAY" 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. HAD I BEEN THE FIRST CAR AT THE STOP LIGHT AND MY TOYOTA HAD ACCELERATED INTO THAT BUSY INTERSECTION, THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A FATALITY. TWO YOUNG MEN WITNESSED THIS ACCIDENT AND CAME RUNNING TO HELP. THERE IS A POLICE REPORT. AND NO CITATIONS WERE ISSUED. I PHONED THE DEALERSHIP AND THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THEM. I WAS WEARING MY SEAT BELT BUT MY NECK WAS SNAPPED. ON JUNE 7, 2010 TOYOTA PHONED TO SAY THIS VEHICLE HAD BEEN INSPECTED AND "THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT" AND THAT TOYOTA IS NEITHER LIABLE OR RESPONSIBLE. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE AND THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO ME ON JUNE 9, 2010.. IRONICALLY ABOUT 3 WEEKS PRIOR TO MY "SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION" ANOTHER RESIDENT OF OUR INDEPENDENT LIVING RETIREMENT COMMUNITY WITH AN IDENTICAL MODEL TOYOTA HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN. HER CAR CRASHED INTO THE CEMENT WALL OF THE UNDERGROUND PARKING GARAGE AND THERE WAS EXTENSIVE DAMAGE AND SHE WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH HER TOYOTA. THIS IS A COMPLAINT ABOUT THE PREMATURE FAILURE OF THE "STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT" ON A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY XLE. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO HOGAN AND SONS, A WELL RESPECTED LOCAL REPAIR SHOP (LEESBURG, VIRGINIA) WITH A COMPLAINT OF FRONT END NOISE. A TOYOTA TRAINED TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THIS PART NEEDED TO BE IMMEDIATELY REPLACED AS IT WAS FAILING AND WOULD ADVERSELY IMPACT STEERING AND SAFETY. THE CAR COULD NO LONGER BE ALIGNED WITH THIS FAILING PART. THE CAR HAS 73,371 MILES ON IT AND IS USED FOR PERSONAL USE ONLY. A VISIT TO THE LOCAL LEESBURG TOYOTA DEALER REVEALED THAT THEY HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THIS PART ON MANY TOYOTAS, BUT THEY WILL ONLY REPLACE IT DURING THE THREE YEAR WARRANTY PERIOD. A CLAIM MADE TO TOYOTA AND AN ARBITRATION REQUEST WERE BOTH DENIED. THIS IS ADDRESSED IN TSB--ST001-06 AND TSB--0296-08. IT IS OUR CONTENTION THAT A PART LIKE THIS SHOULD BE WEARING OUT SO SOON--IN FACT, IT IS ONE OF THOSE PARTS THAT ANY WELL DESIGNED AND MANUFACTURED CAR SHOULD REMAIN OPERATIONAL AND SAFE UNTIL THE CAR IS JUNKED FOR OTHER REASONS. *TR
