ABS LIGHT, BRAKE LIGHT COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY THEN SPEEDOMETER AND RPM GAUGES GOES TO ZERO AND A/C IF IT IS ON BLOWS WARM AIR. *TR
I WAS TURNING INTO MY OFFICE PARKING LOT WHEN MY "CHECK VSC SYSTEM", BRAKE LIGHT, STABILITY CONTROL LIGHT, ETC CAME ON. IMMEDIATELY, MY BRAKES WERE PRACTICALLY GONE AND FORTUNATELY NOBODY WAS COMING THE OTHER DIRECTION OR I WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN ABLE TO STOP. OVER THE NEXT FEW MONTHS, THIS SAME THING HAPPENED EVERY FEW DAYS, MOSTLY WHEN DRIVING AROUND 50MPH BUT IT WOULD GO AWAY AND BE BACK TO NORMAL, USUALLY WITHIN A FEW MINUTES. EVENTUALLY, THE LIGHTS CAME ON AND THIS TIME STAYED ON (THEY'VE BEEN ON FOR A FEW WEEKS NOW), BUT THE BRAKES SEEM TO BE WORKING FINE. HOWEVER, I'M SCARED THAT THEY WILL GIVE OUT. I'VE DONE SOME RESEARCH ON THIS AND I BELIEVE THERE IS ALREADY AN INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY. I JUST WANTED TO ADD MY NAME/COMPLAINT TO THE LIST. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY A SAFETY HAZARD THAT WILL RESULT IN DEATHS IF NOT RECALLED. I'VE READ THAT SOME PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD THIS FIXED AT THE DEALERSHIP OR A REPAIR SHOP ARE PAYING AROUND $3000 DOLLARS TO HAVE IT FIXED. I DON'T HAVE $3000 DOLLARS TO SPEND ON SOMETHING THAT TOYOTA SHOULD TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES BECAUSE OF A FLAW IN THEIR CAR'S DESIGN. I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO SPEND, BUT I ALSO DON'T WANT TO DIE! PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STRUTS WERE FOUND TO BE LEAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC PERFORMED THAT CONFIRMED THE STRUTS WAS LEAKING HOWEVER, THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE STRUTS DID NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,000 AND THE CURRENT 75,250. UPDATED 07/28/14 MA THE CONSUMER NO LONGER OWNS THE VEHICLE. THE DASHBOARD OF MY CAR IS MELTING. WHEN YOU TOUCH IT, IT FEELS LIKE FLYPAPER. IT ALSO PLACES A GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD WHEN THE SUN HITS IT JUST RIGHT CAUSING A SAFETY CONCERNS. (I ACTUALLY HAVE TO PLACE A PIECE OF CLOTH ON THE DASH TO PREVENT THE GLARE AND PRAY I CAN PEEL IT OFF WHEN I PARK MY CAR.) *TR
THE DASHBOARD ON MY CAR IS MELTING, THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN GARAGE KEPT SINCE 2011. THE DASHBOARD IS EXTREMELY SHINY AND STICKY AND CAUSES A SERIOUS GLARE PROBLEM WHILE DRIVING IN DAYLIGHT. I AM AFRAID TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE DURING DAYLIGHT HOURS, DUE TO THE SERIOUS POSSIBILITY OF CAUSING AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THE NEAR ZERO VISIBILITY CAUSED BY THE GLARE OFF THE DASHBOARD. *TR
THE DASH ON MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID IS MELTING, LEAVING A THICK LIQUIDY, SHINY SURFACE THAT REFLECTS THE SUN AND MAKES DRIVING UNSAFE. THERE IS NO VISOR THAT WILL PROTECT ME FROM REFLECTIONS FROM THIS STICKY SHINY MESS. THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HAVE THIS, AND TOYOTA IS NOT STEPPING UP TO THE PLATE AND ACKNOWLEDGING THE DEFECT IN MATERIALS THAT IS CAUSING THIS SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY'S DASHBOARD IS MELTING, WITH AN EXTREMELY SHINY GLARE AND IS VERY STICKY LEAVING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO CLEAN. IT BECOMES A DANGEROUS BLINDING HAZARD WHEN THE SUN IS BARING DOWN ON THE DASH. *TR
DASH BEGAN HAVING CRACKS ABOUT A YEAR AGO. NOW CONCERNED THAT THIS MIGHT HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE RECENT AIRBAG RECALL. *TR
I AM ONE OF MANY COMPLAINANTS THAT HAVE EXCESS OIL CONSUMPTION WITH THIS CAR. I AM USING AT LEAST 1 QUART EVERY 1,000 MILES. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY NEW IN 2007 ( THIS IS MY 5TH TOYOTA) AND RELIGIOUS FOLLOW THE SUGGESTED MAINTENANCE TOYOTA RECOMMENDS. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 50 K MILES THE ENGINE STARTED BURNING OIL AND THE ENGINE BECAME VERY NOISY. THE CAR CURRENTLY USES ABOUT A QUART EVERY 1200 MILES. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE. FROM WHAT I READ ON THE SAFERCAR.GOV, EDMUNDS.COM WEBSITES AND THE CONSUMERAFFAIRS.ORG WEBSITE THERE IS A DESIGN PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE AS ACKNOWLEDGED IN TOYOTA SERVICE BULLETIN T-SB-0094-11 ISSUED 8/11/2011. (OF COURSE AS AN ORIGINAL OWNER OF THIS ENGINE AND VEHICLE I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED).I CAN SEE BY OTHER FILED COMPLAINTS THAT THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM. PERSONAL IMPACT ASIDE, THIS IS A VEHICLE AND ENVIRONMENTAL SAFETY ISSUE. I PUT ALMOST AS MUCH OIL IN THE CAR EVERY WEEK AS I DO GASOLINE. THE ADDITIONAL EMISSIONS CAUSED BY THE OIL BURNING IS BEING OFFSET PARTIALLY BY THE EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM, BUT ONLY PARTIALLY, AND EVENTUALLY WILL FAIL TO FILTER IT OUT ALTOGETHER. I URGE NHTSA TO TAKE ACTION AND RAISE THIS TO RECALL STATUS.. *TR
I HAD TO HAVE MY EVAPORATOR COIL REPLACED. THIS SEEMS TO ME TO BE A PREMATURE FAILURE OF THE AIR CONDITIONING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CAMRY HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN ATTEMPTING TO TURN THE VEHICLE IN EITHER DIRECTION, THE VEHICLE WOULD VEER IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL WARNING LAMP INITIALLY ILLUMINATED FOLLOWED BY ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STABILITY CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 109,000.
I WAS DRIVING MY TOYOTA CAMRY SE 2007 WITH MY FAMILY IN THE CAR,WE WERE IN THE FREEWAY AND FOR NO APPARENT REASON IT CAUGHT FIRE , IT IS A COMPLETE LOSS.. *TR
AT A PARKING SPOT, FULL STOP, SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE SURGED AND HIT A CEMENT POST. AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. DAMAGE TO VEHICLE WAS OVER $7500 LEFT KNEE/SHIN HIT DASH DUE TO KNEE AIR BAG NOT DEPLOYING. INJURY WAS NOT REPORTED AS IT DID NOT SHOW UP UNTIL LATER. *TR
CLUNKING / SKIPPING FEELING WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. *TR
MY DASHBOARD IS MELTING AND DAMAGED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE ENTIRE SUN ROOF DETACHED FROM THE FRAME AND ROLLED OFF ONTO THE HIGHWAY. WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED THE POWER SUN ROOF WAS IN A CLOSED POSITION. THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHEN THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FRAME OF THE SUN ROOF WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 128,000.
I WAS ONLY DRIVING MY VEHICLE ABOUT A MILE WHEN IT FIRST HAPPENED. I WAS APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT AND ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKES. NOTHING HAPPENED. THE STEERING WENT OUT AND THE BRAKES FELT LIKE THEY WEREN'T CATCHING. THANKFULLY, I WAS ONLY GOING ABOUT 25-30 MPH, AND HAD ENOUGH SPACE TO STOP BEFORE HITTING ANOTHER CAR THAT WAS STOPPED AT THE LIGHT. I LOOKED AT THE DASHBOARD DISPLAY AND NOTICED SOMETHING THAT READ, "CHECK VSC SYSTEM". THERE WAS ALSO A WARNING TRIANGLE. THE CAMRY MANUAL INSTRUCTED US TO BRING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP - BUT I CAN'T AFFORD THAT. THE NEXT DAY, IT WORKED FINE. A FEW WEEKS LATER, THE INCIDENT HAPPENED AGAIN WHILE I WAS EXITING THE HIGHWAY AND COMING TO A RED LIGHT. I WAS DECELERATING FROM ABOUT 65 MPH TO A FULL STOP AND FELT THE BRAKES GIVE AGAIN AND THE STEERING WAS DIFFICULT. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER, TURN OFF THE CAR, AND RESTART AND IT WAS FINE AGAIN. I HAD THE BRAKE PADS CHANGED, BUT DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT IS HAPPENING. WE DIDN'T HAVE THE PROBLEM FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. BUT NOW IT FEELS LIKE THE BRAKES WANT TO GIVE WHEN I AM IDLING IN TRAFFIC. WHILE MY FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE, THE CAR WILL SQUEAK AND SUBTLY JERK FORWARD LIKE THE BRAKES ARE ABOUT TO GIVE UP THE GHOST. IT'S REALLY SCARY, BUT I CAN'T AFFORD ANOTHER CAR AT THIS TIME. I'VE LOOKED INTO THE VSC SYSTEM AND DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THAT WOULD INTERMITTENTLY AFFECT MY BRAKING AND STEERING ABILITY. *TR
VSC LIGHTS PLUS ALL WARNING LIGHTS COME ON. BELL SOUNDS AND BRAKES ESSENTIALLY FAIL. TOYOTA QUOTED $2800.00. THIS ISSUE WAS REPORTED PRIOR TO MY EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRING HOWEVER THE ISSUE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED BY TOYOTA UNTIL AFTER EXPIRATION OF THE WARRANTY. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE CORRECTED FREE OF CHARGE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 40MPH, THE BRAKE LIGHT AND "CHECK VSC SYSTEM" AND "ABS" WARNING LIGHTS ALL CAME ON SIMULTANEOUSLY. THE BRAKES WERE VERY STIFF AND DIFFICULT TO ENGAGE AS I TRIED TO STOP FOR A TRAFFIC LIGHT COMING UP. I HAD TO LITERALLY STAND ON THE BRAKES TO AVOID COLLIDING WITH THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. IT WAS VERY SCARY! I TURNED AROUND AND DROVE STRAIGHT HOME, BUT ALL LIGHTS WENT OFF AND THE BRAKES RETURNED TO NORMAL. I COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND WE DISMISSED IT AS A FLUKE. THEN IT HAPPENED A WEEK LATER. THIS TIME THE WARNING LIGHTS WERE ON WHEN I STARTED THE CAR AT HOME. THE BRAKES THEN REENGAGED WHILE I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY. AS I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE, I HEARD A LOUD BANG/THUNK. I THOUGHT I HIT SOMETHING BUT THERE WAS NOTHING THERE WHEN I GOT OUT TO LOOK. THAT'S WHEN I NOTICED ALL WARNING LIGHTS HAD GONE OUT AND MY BRAKES WERE NORMAL AGAIN. I TOOK MY CAR TO LIBERTY TOYOTA IN COLORADO SPRINGS WHERE THEY RAN A DIAGNOSTIC AND SAID I NEEDED A NEW BRAKE SWITCH, WHICH COST ME $180. THREE WEEKS LATER THE SAME PROBLEM WAS BACK WITH THE WARNING LIGHTS COMING ON INTERMITTENTLY. I LEARNED TO DRIVE WITH MANUAL BRAKES FOR A FEW WEEKS AND TO JUST GO MUCH SLOWER BECAUSE I NEEDED MY CAR. I NOTICED THE SAME LOUD CLUNKING SOUND ANY TIME THE BRAKES WOULD REENGAGE (USUALLY WHEN I WAS IDLING OR GOING VERY SLOWLY, GETTING READY TO ACCELERATE) AND THE WARNING LIGHTS WOULD GO OUT. I TOOK MY CAR BACK TO TOYOTA YESTERDAY AND NOW THEY TELL ME THAT IT'S PROBABLY THE ACTUATOR, WHICH WILL COST ME ABOUT $3,000! PLUS MY "CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM" WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND THEY SAID THAT ONE CELL IN MY BATTERY IS BAD. I NEED A NEW BATTERY, WHICH RUNS $4,000! WHAT A HEADACHE! *TR
OUR 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY HAS BEEN BURNING MORE OIL THAN MANUAL SPECIFIES. WE BEGAN TO CHECK OIL LEVEL ONCE A WEEK, DUE TO LOW AMOUNT OF OIL. IN SEPTEMBER, 2013, WE HAD BLUE SMOKE COMING FROM THE CAR. WHEN WE CHECKED WITH MECHANIC, HE ASKED IF 4 CYL OR 6 CYL. HE HAD DONE SO MANY REPAIRS ON THIS MAKE/MODEL/YR, HE COULD DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM OVER THE PHONE. HE HAD TO REPLACE THE VALVE SEALS ON THE ENGINE, AT A COST OF $1400. I WROTE TO TOYOTA CORP WITH NO LUCK IN GETTING REIMBURSEMENT. I BELIEVE SAFETY IS AN ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE, DUE TO OIL SHORTAGE. *TR
MY DASHBOARD IS MELTING AND I SAW ON THE NEWS THAT MANY OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THE MELTING CAUSES A GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD AND CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. PLEASE HAVE TOYOTA DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. *TR
GLARE FROM DASHBOARD DISTRACTED ME. ALSO SEEMS THAT DASHBOARD IS MELTING AND BREAKING APART IN SMALL AREAS. MAIN CONCERN IS THE GLARE, IT SEEMS THAT GLARE IS GETTING WORSE ALONG WITH THE MELTING. REALLY WORRIED THAT GLARE MIGHT DISTRACT TO THE POINT OF AN ACCIDENT. TRIED CLEANING BUT NOTHING SEEMS TO WORK, CLOTH OR PAPER PRODUCTS START TO STICK TO DASHBOARD. *TR
BRAKE ALERT LIGHTS APPEARED ON DASH ON NIGHT OF 9/5/14 UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE. READ CODES IN OWNER'S MANUAL, AND DROVE FEW BLOCKS TO HOME AT SLOW SPEED (15 MPH). ON SATURDAY MORNING, 9/6/14, THE INCIDENT OCCURRED AGAIN WHEN I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 25-30 MILES PER HOUR. NOT ONLY DID THE ALERT LIGHTS APPEAR, BUT THE BRAKES "BLED" THROUGH TO THE FLOOR, AND IT FELT AS IF THE CAR ACCELERATED. BRAKES WORKED ONLY AFTER PUMPING THE BRAKE PEDAL. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO SERVICE CENTER. AFTER DIAGNOSTICS AND DRIVING FOR 90 MILES OVER 4 DAYS, THE INCIDENT COULD NOT BE REPLICATED, NOR DID ANY CODES APPEAR ON THE COMPUTER. VEHICLE WAS RELEASED AFTER PAYING DIAGNOSTIC FEES. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED AGAIN ON 10/2/14: BRAKE LIGHTS APPEARED ON DASH, THE CAR FELT IT WAS ACCELERATING, AND THE BRAKES FAILED TEMPORARILY. MY FOOT BLED THROUGH, I PUMPED THE PEDAL BEFORE BRAKES BEGAN TO WORK. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. AGAIN, DIAGNOSTICS DID NOT REVEAL CODES NOR WAS THE INCIDENT ABLE TO BE REPLICATED. DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR ACCORDING TO TOYOTA CORPORATE DIRECTIONS. FOUND INFO ONLINE THAT NHTSA CITED 59 COMPLAINTS OF BRAKE FAILURE FOR 2007-08 CAMRY HYBRIDS. REPORTED THESE INCIDENTS TO TOYOTA CORPORATE, WHO ASSIGNED A CASE NO. HAVE NOT HEARD FROM CORPORATE CASE MGR. YET, BUT EXPECT TO BY MONDAY, 10/06/14. CORPORATE SAID THEY DO NOT OFFER A LOANER VEHICLE WHILE THIS IS BEING ADDRESSED, BUT TO ASK DEALERSHIP. DEALERSHIP SAID THEY COULD NOT PROVIDE A LOANER VEHICLE. *TR
AS I WAS ON A 2-HOUR DRIVE TO MEET MY BROTHERS FOR THE APPOINTMENT TO ENTER MY ELDERLY MOTHER INTO ASSISTED LIVING ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS ON MY DASH LIT UP. I WAS AFRAID TO CONTINUE SO I STOPPED AT THE DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF IT WAS SAFE TO KEEP GOING. THEY SAID IT WAS THE BRAKE FILTER RESERVOIR ASSEMBLY AND THAT I SHOULD NOT CONTINUE ON THE TRIP UNTIL IT WAS REPLACED. THEY DID REPLACE IT AT NO COST. I WAS UNABLE TO MAKE IT TO MY MOTHER'S ASSISTED LIVING APPOINTMENT, LEAVING MY BROTHERS "HOLDING THE BAG." ONE MONTH LATER, ON OCTOBER 9, 2014, I WAS AGAIN TRAVELING AT 55 MPH WHEN ALL OF THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS LIT UP AGAIN. SINCE I WAS NOT FAR FROM HOME I TURNED AROUND AND PARKED MY CAR IN THE DRIVEWAY UNTIL I COULD MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALERSHIP. UPON EXAMINATION AT THE DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS THE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY. THEY SAID THAT THE DIAGNOSTIC CODES THAT CAME UP WERE NOT EVEN SOMETHING THEY HAD SEEN BEFORE AND THEY HAD TO GET THEM INTERPRETED BY TOYOTA. THEIR EXPLANATION WAS THAT THE "BRAINS" OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM HAD GONE BAD AND IT WOULD BE A VERY COSTLY EXPENSE. THEY DID WORK WITH ME, ACCEPTED A COUPON THAT I HAD, COPPED A LOANER VEHICLE, AND REPLACED THE ACTUATOR AT A COST OF $1755.27. NOW I GET A LETTER IN THE MAIL SAYING THAT THERE IS A "WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM." WHEN I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO ASK ABOUT REIMBURSEMENT FOR THESE CHARGES I WAS TOLD I WOULD NEED TO TAKE MY VEHICLE IN AGAIN FOR AN INSPECTION. SINCE IT'S AN HOUR DRIVE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND IT SEEMS IT'S BECOMING AN ALMOST MONTHLY TRIP FOR SOMETHING OR OTHER, I'M NOT A HAPPY CAMPER. TOYOTA NEEDS TO GET IT TOGETHER!!! *TR
I WAS SHOCK TO TAKE MY CAR IN TO FIX MY BRAKE ACTUATOR. I ALMOST GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT AND KILLED SOMEONE ON THE ROAD. WHEN I TOOK MY CAR IN THEY CHARGE ME $2900. WTH! PLEASE RECALL THIS PART TOYOTA SO YOU CAN PAY ME BACK. THEIRS TOO MUCH PEOPLE PAYING TO FIX THIS! WE WILL GET YOU GUYS! *TR
9-30-2014: MY DASHBOARD AS BEEN MELTING FOR MORE THAN A YEAR. AT FIRST I JUST THOUGHT IT WAS SOFT ON ESPECIALLY HOT DAYS, BUT THE CONDITION CONTINUED TO DETERIORATE. NOW PIECES ARE STARTING TO COME OFF AND VISIBILITY IS GETTING WORSE DAILY AS THE DASH BECOMES SHINIER. I PARK MY CAR IN A CARPORT OUT OF THE SUN. I DRIVE THE CAR SHORT DISTANCES ONCE A WEEK OR LESS. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER IN GAINESVILLE FLORIDA SEVERAL TIMES ASKING WHAT TO DO. THEY FINALLY TOLD ME TO CALL TOYOTA CORPORATE, WHICH I DID IN AUGUST. HOWEVER, HE TOLD ME THAT I HAD TO BE CAREFUL ABOUT COVERING THE AIR BAG ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. IN LATE 3Q 2013 WE BEGAN TO HEAR A COMMON SOUND FROM OUR 2007 CAMRY HYBRID GO FROM OCCASIONAL TO CHRONIC: A 5-10 SECOND HUM FROM THE FRONT RIGHT, LIKE A PUMP PRESSURIZING A CHAMBER. FOR THE FIRST FEW YEARS WE OWNED THE CAR IT WOULD HAPPEN PERIODICALLY; NOW IT'S HAPPENING EVERY 5-10 SECONDS WHEN THE CAR IS RUNNING AND EVEN WHEN IT'S NOT, BOTH BEFORE WE START IT (AFTER OPENING THE DOOR) AND FOR 10-15 MINUTES AFTER IT'S BEEN TURNED OFF. SOMETIMES WE HEAR A SOUND LIKE A BARK OR CHIRP; IT STARTED ABOUT THE SAME TIME AS THE PRESSURIZATION FREQUENCY INCREASED. I'D ALSO NOTICED AN OCCASIONAL THROBBING OF THE BRAKES WHILE THE CAR WAS AT REST. I'VE NOTICED NO DECLINE IN PERFORMANCE, EITHER FROM THE ENGINE OR THE HYBRID SYSTEM, AND NO ISSUES WITH BRAKING ON THE ROAD. ONCE I'VE GOTTEN THE DREADED "CHECK VSC SYSTEM" ERROR, BUT IT CLEARED ITSELF AFTER A DAY. I TOOK IT INTO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN DECEMBER AND TRIED TO EXPLAIN THE PROBLEM; THEY THOUGHT IT WAS A FAN BELT, AND TIGHTENED THE BELTS. THAT DIDN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I FINALLY TOOK IT BACK IN TODAY, AND THE LEAD TECH SAT DOWN WITH ME IN THE CAR - HE KNEW WHAT IT WAS ALMOST IMMEDIATELY. THEY INVESTIGATED, CONFIRMED THE ISSUE, AND INFORMED ME IT WOULD BE $3100+ IN PARTS AND LABOR. I ASKED WHAT THEY COULD DO, GIVEN THAT THERE'S AN ACTIVE NHTSA INVESTIGATION AND RUMORS OF A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT, AND THEY CAME DOWN TO $2800. TO THEIR CREDIT, THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN PROFESSIONAL, RESPONSIVE, COURTEOUS AND SYMPATHETIC. STILL, AFTER EVALUATING THE REPLACEMENT COST, THE CAR'S VALUE, AND OUR CURRENT FINANCES, WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE CAR DAILY DESPITE THE THREAT OF A SERIOUS BRAKING SYSTEM FAILURE. MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY WITH MILES OF 127,000 THAT IS BURNING OIL ABOUT EVERY 1000 MILES DRIVEN ON IT. THE CAR IS TAKEN CARE OF OIL IS CHANGED EVERY 3000 MILES. IT DOES NOT LEAK. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY SO MANY PEOPLE ARE COMPLAINING ON THIS MATTER AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. BRAKES SUDDENLY WERE NOT RESPONDING AND MY VEHICLE WAS SHAKING ALL FELT LIKE OUT OF CONTROL, ALL MY WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AND I HAD TO HIT THE BRAKE PEDDLE HARD WHICH CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO SHAKE MORE AND FELT LIKE I HAD LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND COULD CRASH. I QUICKLY USE MY EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. I FOUND OUT THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE BRAKE ACTUATOR THAT AFFECTS THE ABS SYSTEM, I HAD IT REPLACEMENT AND BOUGHT THE PART FROM ANOTHER CAMRY AND THOUGHT PROBLEM WOULD BE FIXED BUT IT HAS BEEN A LITTLE OVER THE YEAR AND I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN. I AM HESITANT TO BUY A NEW ACTUATOR PART IF THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEING FIXED AND WHY IS TOYOTA NOT RECALLING THIS PARTS FOR THE COSTUMER AS IS EVIDENT THAT IS A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED AND SHOULD NOT BE AN EXPENSE OF THE CONSUMER.

IT HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE AND NOW IT IS SO BAD THAT THERE IS A GLARE ON MY WINDSHIELD DURING DAYLIGHT DRIVING. THIS VEHICLE STAYS IN AN ENCLOSED GARAGE AND NO HARSH/CAUSTIC CLEANING AGENTS HAVE EVER BEEN APPLIED TO THE DASHBOARD. THE DASHBOARD IS SOFT AND STICKY. IT IS LITERALLY MELTING! ADDITIONALLY, THERE IS A FOUL ODOR AS A RESULT OF THE MELTING DASHBOARD. *TR
DASHBOARD HAS BEEN MELTING FOR SEVERAL WEEKS AND NOW IS CRACKED OPEN. DASHBOARD COVER MATERIAL FROM WINDSHIELD TO RADIO AND ACROSS FULL WIDTH OF VEHICLE IS VERY SICKLY, CANNOT BE CLEANED WITHOUT LEAVING CLOTH LINT EMBEDDED IN THE DASH COVER MATERIAL, IS STRUCTURALLY UNSTABLE AND TOO SOFT TO TOUCH WITHOUT LEAVING DAMAGE AND WILL EASILY PEAL OFF UNDER FINGERNAILS. LIGHT REFLECTION FROM DASHBOARD IS GREATLY INCREASED AND AT TIMES DISTRACTING. NO OTHER INTERIOR PARTS IE PLASTIC, METAL, LEATHER, CARPET OR CLOTH ARE AFFECTED. *JS
THE DRIVERS SIDE VISOR BEGAN FLAPPING DOWN, WHILE I WAS DRIVING ALONG WITH MY FAMILY IN THE CAR WITH ME. THIS UNFORTUNATELY THIS WAS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAD OCCURRED AS THE DRIVER (MYSELF) ATTEMPTED TO ADJUST IT WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, WHICH NEARLY CAUSED A COLLISION. THE VISOR NO LONGER WOULD STAY PUT AT ALL AND NEEDED TO PULL OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY TO REMOVE THE VISOR IN ORDER FOR THE VEHICLE TO BE CONSIDERED SAFE TO DRIVE, AND I DID NOT WANT TO PUT MYSELF AND OTHERS AT RISK OF GOING INTO ACCIDENT WHILE DRIVING UNDER THIS UNSAFE CONDITION. ABOUT TWO DAYS AGO, I WAS DRIVING AND MY INSTRUMENT PANEL STARTED DOING SOME CRAZY STUFF. THE BRAKE LIGHT AND ABS LIGHT CAME ON, AND MY TEMP GAUGE, RPM, AND ODOMETER STARTED FLUCTUATING. THIS LASTED ABOUT 30-45 SECONDS THE FIRST TIME. SINCE THEN IT HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY EVERY TIME I'M DRIVING AND IT LASTS A COUPLE OF MINUTES EACH TIME. I WAS ALREADY SCHEDULED TO GO IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE TODAY, SO I HAD THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT MY LOCAL DEALER CHECK OUT THIS PROBLEM ALSO. THE TECH FIRST QUOTED A $53 DIAGNOSTIC FEE, BUT CALLED ME BACK A COUPLE OF HOURS LATER TO SAY THAT THEY NEED A MORE EXTENSIVE DIAGNOSTIC PROCESS, WHICH WOULD INCREASE THE FEE TO $99. SHE ALSO SAID THAT I NEEDED BRAKES AND A BATTERY ($202 FRONT BRAKES+$118 BATTERY+$89 BRAKE FLUID REPLACE). ABOUT AN HOUR LATER, SHE CALLED ME BACK AND GAVE ME THE DEVASTATING NEWS THAT MY ABS ACTUATOR/SKID CONTROL COMPUTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE COST WAS $1686 FOR THE PART, AND THE TOTAL WITH LABOR WOULD BE $2035. THIS DID NOT INCLUDE MY $40 OIL CHANGE, BATTERY, AND BREAKS. NEVERTHELESS, I OPTED TO WAIT ON THE $2000 ABS ISSUE. I WENT TO PICK UP MY CAR AND WAS ACTUALLY CHARGED $148 FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC FEE. ESSENTIALLY, I PAID $199 FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND FOR THEM TO DIAGNOSE A PROBLEM THAT THEY ALREADY KNEW TO BE A COMMON CAMRY PROBLEM. I WOULD HAVE NEVER PURCHASED A TOYOTA IF I HAD KNOWN THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM. ALSO THIS IS A TOYOTA SPECIFIC PART, SO IT'S NOT LIKE YOU CAN SHOP AROUND FOR A DEAL.
