THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE PISTON AND RINGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 133,000. THE VIN NUMBER WAS NOT AVAILABLE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE ENGINE BLOCK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE IT WAS BURNING OIL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 66,200.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO RUMBLE AS THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE SHOOK ABNORMALLY. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE IT WAS ADVISED THAT THE SUSPENSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR BECAME LOOSE AND BROKEN. IT CANNOT BE USED BECAUSE IT FLOPS DOWN INTO THE VISION OF THE DRIVER WHILE DRIVING. IT HAD TO BE REMOVED FROM THE CAR. *TR
DASH BOARD IS MELTING, STICKY, NEEDS REPLACEMENT AND CREATING A GLARE, WHICH, IN TURN, CAUSES A REFLECTION THAT EFFECTS THE DRIVER FROM THE GLARE. THIS HAS BECOME A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
ON 4/20/2013 WAS DRIVING I95 FROM PA TO FAIRFIELD UNIVERSITY,CT ON THE LAST LEG OF THE TRIP TO FAIRFIELD CARS WERE MERGING ON TO I95 I WAS LOOKING TO MERGE INTO THE LEFT LANE LOOKED IN MY MIRROR THEIR A TRACTOR TRAILER,NEXT I DECIDED TO STAY IN THE LANE I WAS IN,NEXT THING I KNOW THE CAR SPUN AROUND AT LEAST ONCE MAYBE MORE, I WAS LOOKING AT A GUARD RAIL AT ONE POINT,GOT IT UNDER CONTROL,AN THAN WAS GOING STRAIGHT. I SAW A SMOKE OR SOMETHING NEAR THE TIRES AFTER I GOT UNDER CONTROL. I AM NOT SURE WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS TIME. SUNDAY I WENT HAD FOUR NEW TRIES PUT ON AS A SAFETY PRECAUTION,THE ROAD WAY APPEARED DRY BUT IT HAD RAINED FRIDAY NIGHT,WE WERE IN CT AROUND 8:30. *TR
I WAS SLOWLY PULLING INTO THE PARKING SPACE ON MY RIGHT IN A PRIVATE PARKING LOT. WITH MY RIGHT FOOT ON THE BRAKE, ALMOST TOTALLY IN THE PARKING SPACE, ALL OF A SUDDEN MY VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD ON ITS OWN -- WHILE MY STEERING WHEEL WAS IN A VERY SLIGHT RIGHT TURN MOTION THE CAR HIT THE LIGHT POLE TO MY RIGHT OF THE PARKING SPACE. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AS IT RESTED ON THE LIGHT POLE. WITH MY FOOT STILL ON THE BRAKE I SHIFTED OUT OF DRIVE, INTO REVERSE, THEN INTO PARK AND TURNED THE IGNITION OFF.
AS I WAS APPROACHING A PEDESTRIAN CROSSING, THE ABS LIGHT AND CHECK VSC LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT WENT ON IN MY CAMRY HYBRID. WHEN I TRIED TO APPLY BRAKES TO STOP, I REALIZED THAT THE BRAKES COMPLETELY FAILED. I DID A SHARP EVASIVE TURN AND HIT THE CURB HARD IN ATTEMPT NOT TO RUN OVER PEDESTRIANS IN THE CROSSING! THE LIGHTS SUBSEQUENTLY DISAPPEARED AND BRAKES RESUMED THEIR NORMAL FUNCTION AFTER A FEW MINUTES. THE ISSUE OF BRAKES FAILING IS INTERMITTENT AND HAPPENED SUBSEQUENTLY SEVERAL TIMES AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. WHEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER AT FIRST I WAS TOLD THERE WERE NO CODES REGISTERED IN THE COMPUTER AND THE BRAKES OPERATE STANDARD. WHEN I INSISTED AFTER APPROXIMATELY 7 HOURS OF TESTING THE DEALER TOLD ME THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE BRAKE CONTROL UNIT (COMPUTER). AFTER RESEARCHING ONLINE I DISCOVERED ITS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM!!! AND YET TOYOTA IS BEHAVING IMMORAL NOT RECALLING THE FAULTY PARTS THAT IN MANY CASES CAN NOT EVEN BE DIAGNOSED. MOREOVER THEY DO NOT EVEN ADMIT THAT THERE'S AN ISSUE! *TR UPDATED 8/22/13 *CN
VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO DEALER FOR STRANGE NOISES COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. DEALER DIAGNOSED A PART FAILURE IN THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY, WHICH COULD HAVE LEAD TO A COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKES. NO WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH EVER INDICATED A PROBLEM WITH THIS CRITICAL SAFETY COMPONENT. *TR UPDATED 07/30/13*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE REPAIR DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM AND IT SOON RETURNED A FEW HOURS AFTER DRIVING. THE NEXT DAY, ALL THE BRAKING ISSUES AND WARNING LIGHTS APPEARED ON THE DASH AGAIN. THE ABS BRAKE ACCUMULATOR HAD AN INTERNAL LEAK. THE BRAKE ACCUMULATOR WAS UPGRADED AND THE NEW UNIT IS A DIFFERENT PART NUMBER.
THE LEFT REAR SEAT BELT WEBBING IS STARTING TO FRAY ON IT'S EDGE. THIS IS PREVENTING THE BELT FROM ROLLING IN AND OUT OF THE RETRACTOR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DASHBOARD MELTED DUE TO EXCESSIVE EXPOSURE TO THE SUN. THE DEFECT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR WAS THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
FOR THE PAST 8 MONTHS, I HAVE BEEN CHECKING THE ENGINE OIL LEVEL TO FIND OUT THAT AT AROUND 1200 MILES THE CAR IS BURNING OIL, 1/2 QUART TO BE EXACT. I THINK IT IS EXTREMELY UNUSUAL FOR A CAR WITH SUCH LOW MILES TO BURN THAT MUCH OIL. SO FAR I REPLACED THE PCV VALVE, THINKING THAT WILL FIX THE PROBLEM BUT IT DID NOT WORK. I SEE NO EVIDENCE OF ANY LEAKS FROM OIL PAN OR HEAD GASKET OR OIL CAP. TODAY I HAD THE DEALER REPLACE MY WATER PUMP DUE TO ANTIFREEZE LEAKING FROM IT. I WILL HAVE THE DEALER LOOK INTO THIS BUT I FEEL I WILL GET THE SAME RESPONSE THAT THE OTHERS 07 CAMRY OWNERS ARE GETTING. AT THIS MOMENT I FEEL THERE IS AN ENGINE PROBLEM. I WILL DO MY PART TO RECTIFY THE PROBLEM BUT WARRANTY IS GETTING CLOSE TO EXPIRE. JUST LIKE THE OTHER PEOPLE HERE. I THINK TOYOTA IS RUNNING AROUND THE PROBLEM. *TR
KUMHO TIRE. LEFT FRONT WHEEL. THE TREAD SEPARATED AND THE TREADED PART BROKE CAUSING EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE LEFT FENDER, FENDER LINING, LEFT BODY PANEL BELOW BOTH DOORS, THE FRONT BUMPER, THE LEFT HEADLIGHT ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND POSSIBLY OTHER FRONT END DAMAGE. DRIVER DID NOT HIT ANYTHING ON THE FREEWAY AND WAS ABLE TO COME TO A SAFE STOP WITHOUT HITTING ANYTHING ELSE. THIS, AND THE OTHER THREE TIRES ON THE CAR WERE PURCHASED FROM DISCOUNT TIRE ON 08/04/2010, AND THEY ONLY HAVE ABOUT 41,000 MILES ON THEM. *TR
THE VEHICLE'S WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE WARNING "CHECK VSC SYSTEM" CAME ON. THE BRAKES DISCONTINUED WORKING PROPERLY AND HAD TO BE PRESSED VERY HARD TO MAKE THE VEHICLE STOP. NOW, THE LIGHTS STAY ON AND TWO DIFFERENT TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS HAVE WRITTEN THAT THE BRAKE ACTUATOR SYSTEM IS FAULTY AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT COST OF $3,000. IN CHECKING FURTHER, I FOUND THAT OTHER TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID OWNERS OF THE SAME VEHICLE AND YEAR (2007) HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND THAT THE NHTSA IS INVESTIGATING ACCORDING TO AN LOS ANGELES TIMES ARTICLE PUBLISHED JANUARY 27, 2014. I WOULD LIKE TO ADD MY NAME TO THE LIST OF COMPLAINANTS. I HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA AND THEY ARE NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR REPAIRING THIS PART WHEN IT IS OBVIOUSLY A VEHICLE DEFECT AFFECTING POSSIBLY 30,000 CAMRY HYBRIDS. *TR
ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO I NOTICED A NOTICE WHEN I DEPRESSED MY BRAKES, EVEN WHAT THE CAR WAS STOPPED, THAT THERE WAS A SQUEAKING OR THUMPING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE CAR. I TOOK TO THE TOYOTA SERVICE CENTER LAST MONTH FOR A 5000 MILE SERVICE AND THEY COULDN'T GET IT TO HAPPEN. IT BECAME MORE FREQUENT AND SO I TOOK IT IN LAST WEEK AND THEY WERE ABLE TO RECREATE THE PROBLEM. THEY BLED THE BRAKE LINES WHICH DID NOT FIX IT AND SO THEY TOLD ME THERE IS AN INTERNAL LEAK IN THE ABS ACTUATOR AND THE PART WAS $2700 AND TOTAL WITH LABOR WOULD BE $3100. I WAS LOOKING AT OTHER OPTIONS AND TODAY WHEN DRIVING THE CAR WOULD HESITATE WHEN STARTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP AND THEN THE VSC SYSTEM CHECK AND HYBRID SYSTEM CHECK WARNINGS CAME ON AND I HEARD A LOUD HISSING/FAN-LIKE NOISE FROM BEHIND THE REAR SEAT WHERE THE HYBRID BATTERY IS LOCATED. AFTER LOOKING ONLINE I FOUND THAT THIS ISSUE IS VERY COMMON AND MANY COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN FILED BY OWNERS OF THE 2007 MODEL YEAR AND LATER CAMRY HYBRID WITH MILEAGE LEVELS IN THE 50K TO 80K RANGE. IN ADDITION, THERE IS A SQUISHINESS IN THE BRAKES AND AT ONE POINT WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES THE CAR CONTINUED TO MOVE FORWARD. I HAVE READ ONLINE ABOUT OTHERS WITH THIS PROBLEM WHERE THEIR BRAKES FAILED WHILE DRIVING AND HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO PREVENT HAVING AN ACCIDENT. THIS NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED A SUDDEN AND INTERMITTENT LOSS IN BRAKING ASSIST, DELAYED BRAKING AND AN INCREASE IN BRAKE PEDAL EFFORT. ALL OF THE WARNING INDICATORS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED, INCLUDING THE CHECK VSC WARNING LIGHT. ON ANOTHER OCCASION THE CONTACT WAS IN TRAFFIC AND WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL INCREASE IN BRAKING DISTANCE THAT CAUSED THE CONTACT TO CRASH INTO A PRECEDING VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER MULTIPLES TIMES BUT THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DUPLICATED. THE MANUFACTURE WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT DECLINED TO PROVIDE AN ALTERNATIVE REMEDY. THE CONTACT WAS AWARE THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER INVESTIGATION FOR THE SAME BRAKING SYSTEM TYPE OF FAILURE (NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE14001). THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000.
THE PLASTIC HOUSING AROUND THE RIGHT HEADLIGHT MELTED, A FIRE HAZARD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED TO 110 MPH. THE CONTACT SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND THE VEHICLE DECELERATED TO 45 MPH. THE CONTACT THEN SHIFTED INTO PARK AND THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO A STOP. THE CONTACT STATED THAT BY SHIFTING INTO PARK, THE ENGINE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE HANDS AND KNEE FROM GRIPPING THE STEERING WHEEL AND TRYING TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY ABRUPTLY APPLYING THE BRAKES. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE DEALER COULD NOT DETERMINE A FAILURE. A TOYOTA SPECIALIST ALSO INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND ALSO WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE A FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000.
MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY IS EXPERIENCING ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. THE SPEEDOMETER GOES TO ZERO, THE BRAKE LIGHT AND ABS LIGHT COMES ON AND THE GAUGES GO HAYWIRE. THE PROBLEM LAST FOR A FEW MINUTES AT A TIME. THIS IS DANGEROUS AS I CAN'T TELL HOW FAST I'M DRIVING. THE TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT STAYS ON AS WELL. NO CODES COME UP IN THE DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO SEVERAL MECHANICS AND I'VE SPENT LOTS OF TIME AND MONEY TO FIND OUT WHAT'S WRONG TO NO AVAIL. I DON'T THINK I'LL NEVER BUY ANOTHER TOYOTA. IT'S FUNNY THE PROBLEM BEGAN AS I AM ABOUT TO MAKE THE LAST PAYMENT. *TR
MELTING SHINY DASHBOARD. PURCHASED VEHICLE IN OCTOBER 2007, AND HAS BEEN GARAGED AND DRIVEN MINIMALLY EVER SINCE. IT'S ABOUT TO GO FOR ITS 30,000 MILE SERVICE. ABOUT A YEAR AGO, WHENEVER DRIVING DURING THE DAYTIME, THE DASHBOARD SEEMS TO "LIQUEFY". IT LOOKS LIKE IT'S SLATHERED IN COOKING GREASE AND IS BLINDINGLY REFLECTIVE. ON TOP OF THE GLARING VISIBILITY ISSUES, THE DASHBOARD IS BECOMING SOFT & STICKY AND WHO KNOWS WHAT KINDS OF TOXINS IT'S RELEASING. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS TOYOTA DOESN'T ACKNOWLEDGE THERE'S A PROBLEM, AND IT WILL COST $2100 TO REPLACE. TOYOTA CORPORATE HUNG UP ON ME. BY SEARCHING ONLINE, I'VE FOUND HUNDREDS, IF NOT THOUSANDS OF CASES OF THIS, PRIMARILY IN HOT WEATHER CLIMATES, MAINLY WITH TOYOTA, LEXUS & NISSAN VEHICLES. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS MANUFACTURING DEFECT. A VEHICLE IS A MAJOR PURCHASE, AND YOUR CAR SHOULD NOT "MELT". EVER. I DON'T CARE HOW OLD IT IS, OUR HOW MUCH IT'S BEEN DRIVEN. THERE ARE MANY ACCOUNTS OF DEALERSHIPS QUIETLY REPLACING DASHBOARDS FOR SOME CUSTOMERS, OR DOING SO AFTER THE PRESS HAS BEEN CONTACTED. THOUGH THE MAJORITY REPORT BEING STONEWALLED, AND BEING QUOTED EXTREMELY DIVERSE RATES FOR REPLACING THE DEFECTIVE DASHBOARD. I'VE SEEN NEWS REPORTS THAT [XXX], A WEST PALM BEACH DEALERSHIP OWNER HAS SEEN SO MANY OF THESE, HE'S GONE TO THE MEDIA, AND ADMITTED THAT THIS IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND A SAFETY HAZARD, AND TOYOTA & OTHER CAR MAKERS ARE WELL AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, AND NEED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR IT. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO ENGINE MALFUNCTION AND SEEKS FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR REPAIRS FROM MANUFACTURER. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED DUE TO EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION, THE DEALER INFORMED HER, THE VEHICLE NEEDED A NEW ENGINE, OR SHE COULD ADD A QUART OF OIL EVERY WEEK. ALTHOUGH, SHE HAS COMPLIED WITH THE MAINTENANCE STANDARDS, TOYOTA DECIDED TO IGNORE WHAT WAS SEEMINGLY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. TOYOTA DID OFFER $1500 TOWARDS A NEARLY $6,300 NEW ENGINE WAS UNACCEPTABLE. THE CONSUMER STATED THE EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM DATED BACK TO APRIL 2013, WHEN THE OIL PAN LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND CONTINUED TO ILLUMINATE EVERY TWO MONTHS.
IN 2012, THERE WAS SOME NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR BRAKES. IN APRIL 2013, THE BRAKE LIGHTS TURNED ON. WHEN WE PRESSED ON THE BRAKES, BRAKES WERE NOT STOPPING. WE HEARD ABNORMAL GRINDING METALLIC NOISE FROM REAR BRAKES. WE TOOK THE 2007 CAMRY HYBRID TO THE DEALER. THEY SAID THAT THE REAR BRAKE PADS HAD WORN OUT ABNORMALLY FAST. THEY COULDN'T PINPOINT THE PROBLEM. AFTER 9 MONTHS, THE BRAKES WERE NOT STOPPING AGAIN, THE ABNORMAL METALLIC NOISE CAME BACK, THE REAR BRAKE PADS WORE OUT PREMATURELY FAST AGAIN. THE DEALER TOLD US THE BRAKE ACTUATOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, WHICH WOULD COST $3300 TO REPAIR THE DEFECT. THERE ARE ALREADY 118 COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS BRAKE FAILURE. TOYOTA NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY BEFORE THERE ARE MORE SERIOUS ACCIDENTS. PLEASE RECALL THESE BRAKE PART FAILURES FOR EVERYONE'S SAFETY. *TR
I BEGAN NOTICING DURING MY REGULAR OIL CHANGE MAINTENANCE AT 3000-5000 MILES, THAT CLOSER TO REQUIRED OIL CHANGE MY OIL LIGHT WOULD ENGAGE DURING BRAKING. I DIDN'T THINK ANYTHING OF IT AT FIRST, BUT BEGAN NOTICING IT AT A CONSISTENT RATE. WHEN I HAD MY OIL CHANGED AT 90,000 MILES THE SERVICE PERSON INDICATED I ONLY HAD ABOUT 1 1/2 QUARTS REMOVED FROM THE CAR. I THOUGHT I HAD AN OIL LEAK OF SOME SORT, BUT I NEVER HAVE HAD ANY SIGNIFICANT DISCHARGE FROM MY OIL PAN, OIL FILTER AND SO FORTH IN MY DRIVEWAY. I WENT TO MY SON WHO IS A MECHANIC, AND HE SAID HE SAW LITTLE SIGN OF ANY LEAKAGE, AND I MUST BE BURNING IT. SO HE SUGGESTED I GET ONLINE, AND LOOK FOR SIMILAR INCIDENTS, AND NOW I SEE 2007 IS A POPULAR YEAR FOR THIS TYPE OF ISSUE. I HAVE YET TO BRING IT TO A DEALERS ATTENTION, AND SEE NO RE-CALL OR MANUFACTURERS PROBLEM ADVERTISED BY TOYOTA. *TR
TL-THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE DASHBOARD HAD DETERIORATED AROUND THE AIR BAG AREA AND SHE WAS ABLE TO SEE THE AIR BAG. WHEN DRIVING ON THE NO 1 LANE (BY THE CARPOOL LANE), AN SUV CROSSED THE DOUBLE YELLOW LINES AND REAR ENDED MY LEFT SIDE AT APPROXIMATE 40MPH. MY PASSENGERS WERE SHAKEN UP WHILE I WAS TAKEN TO THE ER. IN MARCH 2013, I TOOK MY CAR TO MY DEALER FOR A SCHEDULED OIL CHANGE AND ALSO BECAUSE I HAD NOTICED A TICKING NOISE UNDER THE HOOD. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT BECAUSE IT WAS A RAINY DAY, HE COULD NOT HEAR THE TICKING NOISE DURING HIS TEST DRIVE. I WAS STILL CONCERNED, AND ASKED HIM IF HE WAS SURE IT WAS OK FOR ME TO CONTINUE DRIVING IT BECAUSE I HEARD THE NOISE EVERY TIME I TOOK OFF FROM A STOP. HE SAID IT WAS FINE TO DRIVE AND TO BRING IT BACK IN IF THE NOISE CONTINUES. IN MAY 2013, AT 64,756 MILES, I BROUGHT THE CAR IN AGAIN BECAUSE THE TICKING NOISE WAS CONTINUING AND SEEMINGLY GETTING LOUDER. A DIFFERENT TECHNICIAN CHECKED IT, AND AFTERWARDS I RECEIVED THE DEVASTATING NEWS THAT MY CAR EXPERIENCED "INTERNAL ENGINE FAILURE" AND NEEDED THE ENGINE REPLACED. I WAS GIVEN SOME PRICE ESTIMATES FOR USED ENGINES, NONE OF WHICH WERE WARRANTIED FOR MORE THAN A YEAR. WHEN I INFORMED THEM OF MY INABILITY TO AFFORD AN ENGINE REPLACEMENT, TOYOTA SUGGESTED THAT MY CAR UNDERGO AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST BY MY DEALER, WHICH I DID. AFTER 1,000 MILES, THE DEALER DETERMINED THE CAR WAS NOT BURNING OIL EXCESSIVELY. TOYOTA THEN OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE; THE DEALER THEN OFFERED ME A DISCOUNT ON THE ENGINE REPLACEMENT. IN ALL THE YEARS I OWNED THE CAR, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD NEVER ONCE COME ON. (THE ONLY OTHER ISSUE I HAD WITH THE VEHICLE WAS A WATER PUMP FAILURE ON 5/22/2012, WHICH WAS REPLACED AT 56,891 MILES.) I HAVE ALL DOCUMENTATION SHOWING THAT TIMELY OIL CHANGES WERE PERFORMED FOR THE ENTIRE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
DRIVER OF 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY WAS STRUCK HEAD-ON BY DODGE CARAVAN WHILE TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 39 MPH. THE OFF-CENTER FRONTAL IMPACT CAUSED MODERATE TO SEVERE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT BUMPER/HOOD/ENGINE AREA/DRIVER SIDE FENDER WITH SLIGHT TO MODERATE DEFORMATION OF THE DRIVER'S COMPARTMENT. WHILE DRIVING AND STOPPING, ALL THE ENGINE LIGHTS AND "CHECK VSC" CAME ON AND IT APPEARED THAT MY BRAKES FAILED. IT WAS AS IF MY CAR SHUT COMPLETELY OFF; HOWEVER, IT WAS STILL ON AND I HAD MANUAL BRAKES THAT I HAD TO PUSH VERY HARD TO USE. THIS IS INTERMITTENT AND HAS OCCURRED ABOUT 6 TIMES IN TOTAL. IT HAS BEEN SERVICED 3 TIMES REGARDING THIS INCIDENT, ONE OF WHICH THEY JUST LET ME GO AND SAID THEY COULDN'T FIGURE IT OUT. THE LAST TIME THEY DETERMINED THEY "THINK" IT IS THE BRAKE ACTUATOR. AFTER DOING MY OWN RESEARCH ON LINE, IT APPEARS THERE ARE MANY OTHERS WHO HAVE HAD THIS SAME ISSUE. IT APPEARS THE PART HAS BEEN FAULTY FOR SOME TIME AND I WAS UNAWARE OF IT. IT HAS BEEN MAKING NOISES FOR SEVERAL YEARS THAT I THOUGHT WERE NORMAL; BUT I GUESS THEY WERE NOT. I TALKED TO CORPORATE AND THEY ARE WILLING TO PAY HALF. I DON'T BELIEVE THIS IS FAIR AS IT IS NOT MY FAULT THAT TOYOTA USED LOW QUALITY MATERIAL THAT HAS BEEN UNABLE TO WITHSTAND HEAT IN FLORIDA. ON MARCH 5 AS I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON THE FDR IN NY I STARTED TO SMELL SMOKE AND NOTICED THAT A FIRE WAS EMERGING FROM THE COMPARTMENT IN FRONT OF THE SHIFT CONTROL AREA. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND JUMPED OUT IN TIME BEFORE MY CAR WAS FULLY INFLAMED; THE ENTIRE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE BURNED DOWN. AN INSPECTION OF MY CARE REVEALED THAT IT DID NOT COME FROM THE ENGINE (AS IT IS STILL INTACT) AND I BELIEVE IT WAS ELECTRICAL IN NATURE (AS I HAD AN EVENT IN 2010 WHERE THE POWER CONTROL FOR THE WINDOW CAUGHT ON FIRE AND MELTED-THIS CAUSED THE WINDOWS TO NOT WORK, WHICH IS MY REASON IN REPORTING THE NON FUNCTIONING WINDOWS TO TOYOTA). THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES - ESPECIALLY PREVALENT DURING COLD WEATHER. IN MY DRIVEWAY THE PROBLEM IS FRUSTRATING BUT ON THE ROAD IT IS DOWNRIGHT DANGEROUS. THE BRAKES BECOME VERY DIFFICULT TO USE. I'VE DRIVEN IT TO THE MECHANIC MULTIPLE TIMES BUT THE WARNING LIGHTS DISAPPEAR AND THE BRAKES START FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. LUCKILY ONE TIME I ARRIVED WITH ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS STILL ILLUMINATED. ACCORDING TO THE MECHANIC THERE ARE NO PROBLEM CODES RECORDED MAKING IT CHALLENGING TO DETERMINE THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN FOR THE PAST WEEKS WITH A PULSATING NOISE UNDER THE HOOD, SPECIALLY AT STOPS WAITING FOR A RED LIGHT. YOU CAN FEEL THE PULSATION ON THE PEDAL WHEN YOU DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE NOISE GETS LOUDER THE HARDER YOU PRESS THE PEDAL AND THE CAR SEEMS LIKE ITS TRYING TO MOVE FORWARD ON ITS OWN. NO PROBLEM LIGHTS WERE ON THE CONTROL PANEL UNTIL IT REACHED 87,225. AFTER THAT I HAD THE ABS, BRAKE, WARNING, VST LIGHTS ALL ON WITH THE MESSAGE OF CHECK VST ON THE LCD OF THE CONTROL PANEL. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND AFTER INSPECTION THEY DETERMINED THAT THE ABS ACTUATOR MODULE HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE QUOTE WAS FOR $2,600!!!!! I STARTED SEARCHING ONLINE AND FOUND OUT SEVERAL OTHER CAMRY OWNERS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I'M FILING THE COMPLAINT BECAUSE THIS IS A VERY CRITICAL COMPONENT IN TERMS OF SAFETY AND IT IS FAILING AT A VERY LOW MILEAGE (UNDER 100K) AND SOMETIMES EVEN UNDER 60K. ALSO THE COST OF REPAIR IS SO HIGH YOU HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO INCREASE THE FINANCIAL BURDEN BECAUSE IT IS A PART THAT IT IS CRITICAL FOR THE CAR'S SAFETY OPERATION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE WHEN THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE STRUTS WERE LEAKING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE MILEAGE WAS 49,000. *TR
CAR WAS PARKED. TURNED ON IGNITION AND SAW MULTIPLE WAENING LIGHTS. DROVE TO DEALER FOR REPAIRS AND WAS TOLD BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY NEEDS TO EXCHANGED. *TR
THERE IS EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION FOR THIS VEHICLE. I GOT AN OIL AND FILTER CHANGE ON 2/9/13 BECAUSE THE LOW OIL LIGHT WAS FLASHING. I DROVE MY CAR BACK AND FORTH TO WORK AND HOME AS NORMAL WHICH IS ABOUT 15 MILES EACH WAY. MY OIL LIGHT IS BACK ON INDICATING LOW OIL AND THE DIPSTICK ALSO INDICATES LOW OIL. TODAY IS 3/4/13. IT HAS NOT EVEN BEEN 3000 MILES SINCE MY LAST OIL CHANGE. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR BECAUSE I DO NOT KNOW IF THE ENGINE WILL FAIL AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT. THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET INDICATING OTHER OWNERS ARE ALSO HAVING THIS ISSUE. THIS APPEARS TO BE A DEFECT WITH THE CAR. PLEASE ADDRESS THIS ISSUE WITH TOYOTA. IT IS NOT SAFE TO HAVE AN OIL CHANGE AND NOT KNOW AT ANY TIME THAT YOUR ENGINE COULD BE RUNNING ON LOW/NO OIL. *TR
