TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED THE VEHICLE WOULD SHAKE ABNORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE REAR ROTORS HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE ABS WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED AND THE BRAKE PEDAL HAD TO BE DEPRESSED SEVERAL TIMES IN ORDER TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 72,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY SOLARA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE RPMS INCREASED EXCESSIVELY AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED BUT FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A GATE. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 44,700. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE HESITATED TO STOP. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT A BLACK SUBSTANCE WAS ENTERING THE VEHICLE THROUGH THE VENTS. THE CONTACT'S LEGS WERE COVERED WITH THE BLACK SUBSTANCE, WHICH PROMPTED THE CONTACT TO SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DETERMINED THAT THE BLACK SUBSTANCE WAS BRAKE DUST; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY SE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE BRAKE WAS ENGAGED AND THERE WAS NO RESPONSE. THE CONTACT INTENTIONALLY CRASHED INTO A CEMENT PARKING BLOCK IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO ADVISED THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER ASSISTED BY OFFERING THE CONTACT $400 TOWARD THE REPAIR EXPENSES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000. UPDATED 10/10/12 *CN
ON SATURDAY AUGUST 11 2012 I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 25 MPH THEN I SMELLED SMOKE, SECONDS LATER I SAW SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR BY THE POWER WINDOW SWITCH. I PULLED OVER AND DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY THEN I TOOK THE DOOR APART AND OBSERVED THE ACTUAL WINDOW SWITCH MELTED. I DISCONNECTED THE POWER WINDOW SWITCH AND WAS ABLE TO SAFELY DRIVE HOME SAFELY AND ARE CURRENTLY WAITING FOR TOMORROW MONDAY AS THE TOYOTA DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT IS NOT OPEN ON SUNDAY'S. NOW IM NOT ABLE TO OPEN OR CLOSE THE WINDOWS BUT AT LEAST I PREVENTED MY CAR FROM CATCHING ON FIRE. *TR
THE DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR BROKE. THE ARM THAT GOES INTO THE SUN VISOR CAME OUT OF THE SUN VISOR. IT SEEMS THAT IT BROKE THE PLASTIC INSIDE THE VISOR THAT HOLDS IT IN PLACE. THIS CAUSED THE VISOR TO KEEP FALLING AND NOT STAY IN PLACE. IT HAD A GOOD CHANCE OF CREATING A HAZARD SO I COMPLETELY REMOVED THE VISOR. THE TAB ON THE BAR THAT ALLOWS THE VISOR TO SNAP INTO PLACE HAS BECOME VERY STIFF TO WHERE IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO ROTATE AROUND. THE STIFFNESS OF THE ARM SEEMS TO BE WHAT PROBABLY BROKE THE PLASTIC. *TR
ON AUGUST 10, 2012, I WAS DRIVING MY TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID 2007 ON THE FREEWAY AT 55 MPH AND IT STARTED SLOW DOWN. I PULLED OVER TO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN. THE DASHBOARD INDICATED TO CHECK "VSC HYBRID SYSTEM." SANDAG TOWED ME OFF THE HIGHWAY FOR SAFETY. NEXT, I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO CHULA VISTA TOYOTA. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID THAT IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND WOULD BE REPAIRED AT NO COST. A FEW DAYS LATER, THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT STATED THAT THE INVERTER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND WOULD COST MORE THAN $6000 DOLLARS. I PURCHASED THE CAR LESS THAN SIX MONTHS AGO, BUT WAS DENIED WARRANTY COVERAGE UNDER THE USED CERTIFIED VEHICLE WARRANTY. THE WARRANTY STATES THAT THE CAR IS COVERED FOR 12 MONTHS / 12,000 MILES FROM THE DATE OF PURCHASE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE SUN-VISOR FLIPPED DOWNWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 117,000. DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR STARTED TO DROP AND WILL NOT STAY IN PLACE. IT HAS BROKEN INSIDE THE PLASTIC CASE. IT IMPAIRS THE DRIVERS VISION AND I'VE SEEN ON THE WEB THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH 2007 CAMRYS. *TR
BOTH HEADLIGHT PLASTIC COVER LENSES ARE HAZY AND UNCLEAR CREATING A DIMINISHED HEADLIGHT DISTANCE. I FEEL THIS IS A DEFECT THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD ADDRESS FOR FREE. *TR
ALL FOUR TIRE WHEEL HUBS ARE RUSTING OUT. THIS COULD CREATE A HAZARD. MANUFACTURER SHOULD CORRECT WHEEL HUB DEFECT AT NO COST TO CUSTOMER. *TR
'CHECK VSC SYSTEM' ALONG WITH BRAKE LIGHT WARNING, ABS WARNING, AND PRETTY MUCH EVERY OTHER WARNING LIGHT POSSIBLE CAME ON MY 2007 CAMRY HYBRID AROUND JUNE OF 2012. I HEAR PULSATING UNDER THE HOOD CONSTANTLY & WHEN I TURN ON MY CAR WHILE IN PARK WITH MY FOOT ON BRAKE MY CAR WILL BEGIN TO ROLL BACKWARDS BY ITSELF, I ATTEMPT TO PUMP THE BREAKS BUT IT NEVER WORKS. I HAVE TO WAIT ABOUT 5-10 SEC LIKE THERE IS A DELAY WITH MY BRAKE SYSTEM WHEN I FIRST TURN ON MY CAR. ONCE THE BRAKES FINALLY KICK IN MY CAR WILL EITHER JOLT IN VERY DRASTIC WAY LIKE I SLAMMED ON MY BRAKES EVEN THOUGH MY FOOT HAS BEEN ON THE BRAKES THE WHOLE TIME OR IT WILL THROTTLE BACK ON ITS OWN LIKE I'M PUSHING ON THE GAS. I WILL NEVER PARK ON A HILL IN FEAR OF MY CAR JUST TAKING OFF ON ITS OWN WITH NO BRAKES TO STOP IT. I HAVE TO LITERALLY TURN ON MY CAR AND WAIT FOR MY BREAKS TO KICK IN BEFORE I CAN REVERSE. IT IS VERY SCARY! IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME ONCE AS WELL WHEN I WAS DRIVING AND I COMING TO A STOP, MY BRAKES JUST WENT OUT AND KICKED BACK IN ON ITS OWN. I BROUGHT MY CAR TO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THEM CHECK IT OUT. THEY BROUGHT BACK A QUOTE OF $5,900! INSTEAD OF TRYING ONE THING AT A TIME THEY JUST WANTED TO REPLACE EVERYTHING AT ONCE. MY CAR WAS RIGHT AT THE 5 YEAR WARRANTY MARK BUT BECAUSE I BOUGHT MY CAR IN GUAM THEY COULDN'T TELL IF MY CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET. 2007 ONLY 45000 MILES WITH A 6 THOUSAND DOLLAR REPAIR! THAT IS INSANE LET ALONE IT IS A HYBRID FEATURE & A SAFETY ISSUE! TO ME THIS SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY NO MATTER WHAT! LOOK ONLINE YOU CAN SEE HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS EXACT ISSUE! PEOPLE HAVE EVEN MADE WEBSITES FOR IT! I'M VERY DISAPPOINTED IN TOYOTA. I'M STUCK WITH THIS CAR THAT I CANT AFFORD TO FIX! SO I DRIVE EVERY DAY IN WHAT SEEMS TO ME LIKE A DEATH TRAP! IT'S JUST NOT RIGHT. *TR
HID HEADLIGHTS TURN OFF WHILE DRIVING. PROBLEM IS SPORADIC. MAY INCLUDE ONE OR BOTH LIGHTS TURNING OFF. IT IS NOT A BULB ISSUE. SIMILAR TO TOYOTA PRIUS HID LIGHT ISSUES. *TR
THE DASHBOARD OF MY CAR IS STICKY AND VERY SHINY! I HAVE FOUND NOTHING THAT WILL REMOVE THE STICKY STUFF OR THE SHINE. THE SHINE CAUSES A BLIND SPOT FOR THE DRIVER THAT IS VERY DANGEROUS. IT IS ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE AND IN THE DRIVER'S LINE OF SIGHT. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM OF ENGINEERING BY THE COMPANY THAT MAKES THE DASH. THEY SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPLACING THIS DASHBOARD. IT IS ALL OVER THE TOP OF THE DASH. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING, THE SUN VISOR FELL FROM ITS HOUSING AND WOULD NOT REMAIN UPRIGHT. THE VISOR WAS BLOCKING THE CONTACT'S VIEW OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE CONTACT MADE ATTEMPTS TO NOTIFY THE MANUFACTURER BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
ONE OR BOTH HEADLIGHTS GO OUT EVERY MINUTE OR TWO. MOST OFTEN IT IS THE RIGHT HEADLIGHT, OCCASIONALLY IT IS THE LEFT, AND THEN A COUPLE OF TIMES BOTH WENT OUT AT THE SAME TIME. THIS OCCURS WHEN THE SELECTOR IS SET OR AUTOMATIC AND MANUAL. *TR
WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKE TO REDUCE SPEED ON ONE OCCASION THE BRAKE FAILED TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN. WAS ONLY DRIVING ABOUT 20 MPH AT THE TIME. THE BRAKE BEGAN TO FUNCTION ONLY AFTER RELEASING THE BRAKE PEDAL AND RE-APPLY FORCE. AS STATED ABOVE THIS HAS ONLY OCCURRED ONCE. *TR
AT HIGHER SPEED BRAKES VIBRATE HORRIBLY WHEN BRAKE PEDAL IS PUSHED AND CAR IS ALMOST UNCONTROLLABLE. NOW IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME AT ANY SPEEDS OVER 40-50MPH. *TR
PROBLEM STARTED WITH A CLICKING NOISE UNDER THE HOOD, NEAR THE ENGINE AND BRAKES THAT WERE CRUNCHING WHEN SLOWING DOWN OR STOPPING. THE CLICKING NOISE GREW LOUDER, HAPPENED MORE OFTEN AND EVEN CONTINUED AFTER THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF. TOOK THE CAR TO DEALER WHO TOLD ME IT WAS THE ABS ACTUATOR. THE DASH LIGHTS WERE NOT ON AT THIS POINT AND I CONTINUED TO DRIVE IT. THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH APPEARED ALMOST 6 WEEKS LATER WHEN I STOPPED DRIVING THE CAR BECAUSE IT COULD BE DANGEROUS IF I SUDDENLY LOST MY BRAKES. CHECKED WITH TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS WHO TOLD ME THERE WAS NOT A SUFFICIENT NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS FOR A RECALL. CHECKED THE INTERNET FOR COMPLAINTS AND THERE WERE PLENTY OF CAMRY NEW CAR OWNERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. FILED A COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA AND RECEIVED A CASE NUMBER FOR REIMBURSEMENT IF THE PROBLEM BECAME A "RECALL" LATER ON. THIS CAR WAS BROUGHT TO DEALERSHIP FOR EVERY MAINTENANCE. THIS CAR IS STILL NOT COMPLETELY PAID FOR. THIS "HYBRID" CAR DID NOT SAVE ME A PENNY IN GAS BECAUSE OF THE ABS PART WILL COST ME OVER $2K. THESE HYBRIDS SHOULD COME WITH DISCLAIMERS THAT BATTERIES AND ELECTRONIC PARTS COST MORE THAN NON-HYBRID CARS AND MAYBE PEOPLE WILL NOT BUY THEM. THE COSTS ARE OUTRAGEOUS! THEY SHOULD COME WITH EXTENDED WARRANTIES. *TR
I OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY XLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS BURNING MORE OIL THAN USUAL. THE CHECK OIL WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED OFTEN. THE CONTACT HAD THE OIL CHANGED AT 69,000 MILES AND THE MECHANIC ADVISED THAT THERE WAS LESS THAN HALF A QUART OF OIL LEFT AT APPROXIMATELY 74,000 MILES. THE CONTACT HAD THE OIL CHANGED AGAIN AND THE SAME ISSUE RECURRED. *TR
TOYOTA CAMRY DASHBOARD IS VERY STICKY AND MELTING. IF YOU PRESS YOUR HAND OR FINGERS AGAINST THE DASH BOARD THE RUBBER/PAINT WILL STICK TO YOUR HAND. EVEN IF YOU TRY CLEANING IT, IT WILL STICK TO THE PIECE OF CLOTH OR PAPER AND REMOVING THE PAINT AND RUBBER FROM THE DASHBOARD. *TR
THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE SUN VISOR JUST HANG DOWN, THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THESE SUN VISOR ARE HORRIBLE IS QUALITY. I CAN'T BELIEVE TOYOTA HAS NOT RECALLED THIS ISSUE. *TR
BOTH THE SUN VISOR ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE HAVE BROKEN. THEY FLOP DOWN AND WON'T STAY UP. THE DRIVER SIDE VISOR HUNG RIGHT IN THE LINE OF SIGHT OF THE DRIVER. I HAD TO HOLD IT UP WITH MY LEFT HAND WHILE DRIVING SO THAT I COULD SEE, UNTIL I COULD DRIVE HOME AND REMOVE IT. BOTH VISORS HAVE BEEN REMOVED, WHICH CAUSES ANOTHER HAZARD OF SUN GLARE FOR THE DRIVER. SUNGLASSES ALONE DO NOT BLOCK THE SUN WELL ENOUGH. I STILL BECOME BLINDED BY THE SUN AND HAVE TO BLOCK THE SUN WITH MY HAND. VERY HAZARDOUS. DEALERSHIPS ARE CHARGING AROUND $175 PER VISOR. AT THE VERY MINIMUM, TOYOTA NEEDS TO REPLACE THE VISORS AT THEIR COST OF THE VISOR WITH FREE LABOR. *TR
AT ABOUT THIS DATE THE LEFT SIDE OF THE DASHBOARD COVER STARTED TO GET REAL STICKY, LIKE GLUE WAS POURED ON IT, AND I CAN'T GET RID OF IT. ON BRIGHT SUNNY DAYS SPOTS APPEAR ON THE WINDSHIELD MAKING IT HARD TO SEE AHEAD AT TIMES. I NEED TO KNOW WHY TOYOTA WON'T FIX THIS. IT'S NOT COMMON FOR THIS TO HAPPEN AND I DON'T FEEL I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THIS FIXED AS I HAVE FOUND OTHERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
THE DASHBOARD IS LITERALLY MELTING AWAY. THERE IS A HORRIBLE, STICKY, GOOEY SUBSTANCE THAT IS OOZING OUT OF THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD. YOU CANNOT TOUCH OR CLEAN IT, AND WHEN DRIVING IN THE DIRECT SUN, IT CREATES SUCH A REFLECTIONS ON THE WINDSHIELD THAT YOU CAN HARDLY SEE. I AM NOT SURE WHAT THE SUBSTANCE IS, HOWEVER, I BELIEVE THAT BREATHING IT MAY BE A HEALTH HAZARD. I HAVE APPROACHED TOYOTA ON THIS ISSUE SEVERAL TIMES, ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS AND THAT THE REASON THE DASHBOARD IS MELTING IS BECAUSE I LIVE IN FLORIDA. *TR
THE DASHBOARD ON MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY HAS BEEN MELTING SINCE AUGUST OF 2012. SINCE IT HAS STARTED MELTING THE DASH IS VERY REFLECTIVE IN SUNNY WEATHER MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO LOOK OUT THE FRONT WINDSHIELD. THE GLARE HAS ALMOST CAUSED ME TO GET IN AN ACCIDENT ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. *TR
MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY DASHBOARD IS STICKY AND MELTING- IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.
I INITIALLY BEGAN NOTICING THAT WHEN THE AC DOES NOT BLOW COLD AIR WHEN TURNED ON THAT ALL OF THE GAUGES ON MY DASHBOARD STOP WORKING INCLUDING, SPEEDOMETER DROPPING TO 0 WHILE I AM DRIVING SO THAT I DO NOT KNOW AT WHAT SPEED I AM DRIVING, MY GAS GAUGE INEXPLICABLY DROPS TO EMPTY, LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD STOP WORKING AND MY DASHBOARD GOES DARK, RPM GAUGE FLICKERS WILDLY, BRAKE & ABS LIGHTS DO NOT GO OFF, AND OCCASIONALLY THE CAR STOPS BUT WITH HESITATION WHEN BRAKING, ALONG WITH INTERIOR FOGGING OF ALL WINDOWS WHEN IT RAINS (SOMETIMES DEFROSTER/FANS WORK TO DEFOG WINDOWS BUT SOMETIMES IT DOES NOT CAUSING MY VISIBILITY WHILE DRIVING TO BE SUBSTANTIALLY AND DANGEROUSLY REDUCED). DURING SOME ONLINE RESEARCH, I BELIEVED THAT THE ISSUES MIGHT BE RELATED TO AN EARLIER RECALL SO I CALLED THE TOYOTA CORPORATE OFFICE AND THEY INDICATED THAT IT MAY BE RELATED BUT TO TAKE THE CAR TO MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP TO CONFIRM. I TOOK THE CAR TO TOYOTA OF HOLLYWOOD AND THE MANAGER STATED THAT IT WAS NOT RELATED TO THE RECALL AND THAT THE MAIN COMPUTER WAS MALFUNCTIONING AND CAUSING THE SUBCOMPUTERS TO ALSO MALFUNCTION AND ESTIMATED A REPAIR PRICE OF $2500. WHILE I WAS DOING MY ONLINE RESEARCH, IT APPEARS THAT MANY 2007 CAMRYS ARE HAVING THE SAME EXACT ISSUES I AM HAVING AND IN ADDITION, THE TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRIDS HAD BEEN RECALLED FOR THE SAME ISSUES AS WELL. I DO NOT BELIEVE I SHOULD INCUR THE EXPENSE OF REPAIRS FOR ISSUES THAT SEEM TO BE RELATED TO A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT.
TOYOTA ISSUED A RECALL FOR THE MELTING DASH ON MY CAMRY AND I'VE BEEN ON A WAITING "LIST" WITH THE DEALER FOR MORE THAN A YEAR TO NO AVAIL. I NEED TO SELL MY CAR AND CANNOT BECAUSE OF THE DASH. TOYOTA SAID THEY WOULD ACCEPT THE CAR ON A TRADE IN, BUT DEDUCT THE COST OF THE DASH REPAIR FROM MY TRADE IN VALUE! HOW CAN I BE LIABLE FOR THE COST OF A MANUFACTURER DEFECT?! I"M SO DISSAPPOINTED IN TOYOTA.
AT AROUND THE END OF JULY 2012 THE DASH BOARD ON MY 2007 CAMRY STARTED TO GET GUMMY AND STICKY. WHEN I WENT TO THE DEALER I WAS TOLD THAT THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THAT THE DASH COULD BE REPLACE BUT THAT IT WOULD COST ME OUT OF POCKET. NOW MY DASH BOARD IS IN REALLY BAD SHAPE. I PULLED THE DRIVER SIDE VISOR DOWN TO BLOCK THE SUN AND IT BROKE AND WAS JUST HANGING THERE BY SOME FABRIC. HAD TO QUICKLY PULL OVER INTO THE DITCH TO PREVENT AN ACCIDENT. I PURCHASED A NEW 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY IN NOVEMBER 2006 FROM A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND KEEP IT PARKED IN MY GARAGE WHEN IT'S NOT BEING USED. ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO, THE HEAT OF THE SUN BEGAN MELTING MY DASHBOARD. THE DASHBOARD STARTED TO LOOK VERY GLOSSY AND SHINY AND FEEL VERY STICKY, LIKE GLUE. PARTS OF IT BEGAN TO PEEL. WHEN I AM DRIVING ON A HOT SUNNY DAY, THE SHINE OF THE DASHBOARD CREATES A GLARE ON MY WINDSHIELD THAT MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO SEE THE ROAD AHEAD. I TOOK IT TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP HOPING THAT THEY WOULD REPAIR IT AS IT IS A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT, BUT THEY SAID THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY AROUND $3,000 TO REPLACE THE DASH. THEY ALSO ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH TOYOTA CAMRY MODELS MANUFACTURED BETWEEN 2007 AND 2010, YET THEY NEVER ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. IT'S CLEAR FROM THIS THAT IT WAS PERFECTLY FEASIBLE FOR THEM TO USE A DIFFERENT MATERIAL MADE TO WITHSTAND HEAT IN WARMER CLIMATES, BUT THEY DID NOT. MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY LE ON JULY 15, 2012 12:15 PM, DRIVING BACK FROM CHURCH ABOUT 3 MILES FROM HOME, WE NOTICED A HORRIBLE RUBBER BURNING SMELL. AS WE CONTINUE DRIVING NO MORE THAN A MILE, THE VEHICLE DRIVER WINDOW POWER SWITCH STARTED SMOKING; UPON TRYING TO ROLL DOWN THE WINDOWS TO AVOID THE SHOCKING SMELL, THE WINDOWS WOULD NOT ROLL DOWN. INFANT AND ADULTS STARTED COUGHING PROFUSELY. AIR CONDITIONING WAS ON AND WE TURNED IT OFF WITH NO CHANGE. WINDOWS WERE STUCK AND NOT ABLE TO ROLL DOWN, THE SMELL AND COUGH GOT STRONGER. WE HAD TO PULL OVER TO GET AIR AND HAD THE TODDLER AND YOUNG ADULTS WALK HOME DUE TO THE SMELL. WE TURNED THE CAR OFF FOR ABOUT HALF HOUR TO COOL DOWN WITHOUT ANY SUCCESS. AS SOON AS THE CAR'S IGNITION SWITCH WAS TURNED ON IT STARTED SMOKING AGAIN, PER THE TOYOTA CAR DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR BRAND NEW 5 YEARS AGO; THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND A HEALTH HAZARD. I REPORTED THE INCIDENT TO TOYOTA CORPORATION ON MONDAY JULY 16, 2012 AND AS OF TODAY THURSDAY, JULY 20, 2012 AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO CONTACT TOYOTA; THEY RETURNED MY CALL JUST TO INFORM ME THAT MY CASE WAS ESCALATED TO A SUPERVISOR AND THAT I WILL GET A CALL BACK TOMORROW. PER THE TOYOTA DEALER THAT INSPECTED MY VEHICLE, THE ISSUE IS THE MASTER POWER SWITCH. THE DEALER WAS NICE ENOUGH TO WAIVE THE INSPECTION FEE DUE TO THE SEVERITY OF THE ISSUE. PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT, I NOTICED THAT SOMETIMES THE PASSENGER FRONT DOOR DID NOT LOCK UPON SETTING THE ALARM. AS TIME WENT BY IT STOPPED WORKING ALL TOGETHER. THEN THE SAME DOOR, FRONT PASSENGER WINDOW WOULD NOT ROLL DOWN ON OCCASIONS AND THE DAY OF THE INCIDENT IT ROLLED DOWN BY ITSELF. I ROLLED THE WINDOW UP AND AFTER THE INCIDENT ALL 4 WINDOWS ARE NONFUNCTIONAL. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 5MPH APPROACHING A LEFT TURN LANE WHEN I SMELLED A STRONG BURNING PLASTIC ODOR. I SAW SMOKE ARISING FROM MY DRIVER'S DOOR AND REALIZED IT WAS COMING FROM MY CAR! I COULD SEE THERE WAS A FIRE IN BETWEEN MY DOOR WHEN I LOOKED AT MY DRIVER'S DOOR CONTROL UNIT. I TURNED OFF MY ENGINE AND TURNED ON MY HAZARD LIGHT. I WAITED FOR THE TRAFFIC TO CLEAR BEFORE CROSSING THE STREET WITH MY 9 YR DAUGHTER. I CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WHICH RESPONDED WITHIN 5 MINUTES. WHEN THEY ARRIVED THE FIRE HAD ALREADY STOPPED SO ONE OF THE FIREMEN DROVE THE CAR TO THE PARKING LOT NEARBY TO CLEAR TRAFFIC. THE BUTTON THAT CONTROLS THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR HAD MELTED FROM THE FIRE. THIS VERY WINDOW STOPPED WORKING ABOUT 3 WEEKS AGO. BUT SOMEHOW FROM THE FIRE, THE FRONT PASSENGER WINDOW WENT DOWN ON ITS OWN. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER. THE SERVICEMAN INFORMED ME THAT HE'S NEVER HEARD OF SUCH PROBLEMS WITH TOYOTA. I ASKED FOR TOYOTA CORPORATE NUMBER AND CONTACTED THEM. THEY TOYOTA REPRESENTATIVE INFORMED ME THAT THERE HAVE BEEN 129 CASES OF DOOR FIRES REPORTED TO THEM. AFTER INSPECTING THE DOOR, THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS A SHORT IN THE DOOR CONTROL UNIT. THE COST TO REPLACE THE UNIT IS $545 AND DOOR PANEL IS $800. I'M AWAITING FOR TOYOTA CORPORATE OFFICE TO INSPECT THE DOOR BEFORE GETTING THE DOOR REPAIRED. SO FAR I HAVE TO BE THE PERSON PURSUING THE MATTER. THE DEALERSHIP OFFERS NO HELP. TOYOTA CORPORATE SAID IT WILL TAKE UP TO 30 DAYS TO GIVE ME THE REPORT. I INFORMED THEM THAT IT HAS TO BE FASTER THAN THAT BECAUSE I NEED MY CAR FOR TRANSPORTATION SO THEY SHORTENED THE TIME TO 10 DAYS. *TR
