While driving the car just shut-off in the middle of the road. If you tried to restart the car it would turn on rev the engine and shut off. The dash display displayed a message " precollision system malfunction" and "secondary brake collision malfunction". Safety wise if this had happened on the highway could have been very dangerous or worse. The car was inoperable and required a tow truck. Luckily we were not on a very busy road during the incident. The problem has been replicated and is currently being tested at Joe Meyers Toyota in Houston, Texas. When the message displayed on the dash, check engine light came on as well as the brake light on the dash.
Hesitant and sluggish acceleration caused check engine light and activated limp mode. Code P0087 - fuel rail/system pressure too low. My VIN isn’t included on the major fuel pump recall, but I’m experiencing issue and being told it’s going to cost thousands to repair.
The seat belt latch broke . The seat belt is not retracting . Dangerous situation . The seat belt too loose and will not secure driver
My vehicle has being acting faulty. The vehicle looses power and stops while driving. It has done it multiple times. I took it for check up on the dealer and said it was fuel pump. They said that unfortunately this car is not in the recall list even though other same year camrys are not either. The mechanics advised me to contact NHTSA to inform about this issue to not have to pay for a recall noticed. Without it, I would have to pay.
Around 67,000 miles I've been noticing a whining sound whenever accelerating. Sound disappears whenever foot is off the gas pedal.
My 2020 Toyota Camry is experiencing a persistent failure with the Data Communication Module (DCM), resulting in **Error Code ** in the Toyota app: "Request could not be completed. Please contact your dealer for assistance." This error prevents all Toyota Remote Connect features from functioning, including remote start, lock/unlock, and vehicle status — services I am actively paying a subscription fee for. Toyota has acknowledged this is a known software defect and published Technical Service Bulletin TSB-0089-21 (DCM Reset and Firmware Update – LG), which specifically lists the 2020 Camry as an affected vehicle. Despite this being a documented manufacturer defect, Toyota has not issued a formal Special Service Campaign (SSC) to cover all affected owners regardless of warranty status, leaving out-of-warranty customers responsible for repair costs caused by Toyota's own firmware failure. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this issue and urge Toyota to issue a no-cost Special Service Campaign for all affected 2020–2021 Camry owners experiencing Error 42 / DCM failure. This is a safety concern as Safety Connect (SOS/emergency services) is also rendered inoperative when the DCM fails.
I purchased my vehicle from a certified used car dealership in Connecticut in 2020 with a little over 1800 miles. Since purchasing the vehicle, it has been very reluctant to down shift and had slight transmission whine. I was notified of a recall for I believe the TCM a few months after purchasing it, which i had remedied by the dealership. Over the years, my car has been maintained completely to Toyotas manufacturer standard. Around 50,000 miles i started experiencing shuddering during shifts and slipping during shifts and a louder whine Around 89,000 miles my transmission symptoms worsened. Sporadic shifting, obvious whine, grinding and clunking during shifts and shifting between gears, and clicking from a stop. At 97k i serviced the transmission fluid which seemed to help a little bit but did not get rid of the symptoms fully. The fluid was dark brown, which was serviced 3,000 miles before Toyotas recommended interval. I then replaced the driver side cv axle shaft which also did not remedy any symptoms and i was notified by my shop that it was premature transmission failure. Now at 100,998 miles, my transmission grinds and clunks during all lower gear shifts, will shift through gears while maintaining steady speed, and whines audibly from the exterior and interior. My car is still running and driving for now, but after research this is a very common issue with the UA80E transmission and Toyota has knowingly sold these cars with these production errors putting people at risk of injury and financial nightmares.
The contact owns a 2020 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while the local dealer was performing preventive maintenance on the vehicle, there was an abnormal winding sound detected. The dealer determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact had not experienced a failure prior to the service appointment. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 82,000.
The built in heater for my steering wheel is making the steering wheel smoke.
The contact owns a 2020 Toyota Camry. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the sunroof rose up independently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the contact was informed that the sunroof needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Known by manufacturer. There is a faulty coolant bypass valve that they are forcing customers to pay out of pocket for repairs totaling over $700
Panoramic window becomes not functional and stuck. Window remains open and sun glare becomes to immense at various times of the day blinding the driver.
It’s reading the LDA warning lights, secondary collision break malfunction, pre collision break malfunction, check engine light. Car is misfiring and could possibly cut off in mid traffic. Dealer said that the Motor has a cracked head gasket. There were no problems prior to these issues.
The contact owns a 2020 Toyota Camry Hybrid. The contact stated that while parked in the CVS drive-thru, the contact shifted the gear shift into reverse when the vehicle unintendedly accelerated in reverse, the brake pedal was depressed, and the vehicle was shifted into drive; however, the vehicle accelerated independently again, causing the contact to crash into the rear of the vehicle in front. No warning lights illuminated, but the contact was uncertain as the events occurred fast. No injuries were sustained. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, where it was diagnosed; however, the diagnosis was unknown. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 41,000.
My 2020 Toyota Camry SE suffered a sudden and premature transmission failure at only 114,000 miles. I am a college student and I cannot afford a major repair like this on top of my monthly car payment. The car began showing hesitation and sluggish acceleration on cold starts for a few months, but then suddenly went into limp mode with the Check Engine and Traction Control lights on. The screen displayed a warning saying ‘Malfunction in the electronic control of the engine/throttle/transmission.’ The vehicle became unsafe to drive because it would barely accelerate. If this had happened while I was merging onto a highway, it could have caused an accident. Lakeland Toyota told me the transmission has ‘internal failure’ and quoted me over $8,000 for a replacement. They did not provide detailed diagnostic codes or open the transmission to confirm the mechanical failure — they just saw a code and declared it dead. As a student with limited income, this puts me in a terrible financial situation. I still owe monthly payments on this car and now cannot even drive it. After researching online, I learned that MANY 2018–2020 Camry owners are experiencing similar transmission problems (UA80/UA80E), including hesitation, shuddering, harsh shifting, and early failure. Some owners have reported full transmission failure under 100k miles. There is even a public petition documenting these issues. This appears to be a PATTERN, not an isolated case. A transmission should NOT fail this early on a Toyota, and this sudden loss of power poses a serious safety risk. The vehicle is currently at a transmission specialist for a second opinion, but this may become a widespread issue affecting thousands of Camry owners. I am asking NHTSA to investigate the 2018–2020 Camry transmission problems before more drivers experience unexpected failures in traffic
The Airbag recall on select Toyota Camry. The manufacturer of the airbags in Japan are said to be defective. I have not received new sensors that are on back order. Seatbelt sensors continue to go off, unless they are clicked in all seats. I already had the car fixed twice, they won’t lean to fix the car again. It’s all political financially. The onboard Safety SOS may also be defective in these models.
My 2020 Toyota Camry is experiencing a premature and progressive transmission failure that creates serious safety risks. Symptoms include hesitation and loss of power during acceleration, harsh and delayed shifting, RPMs increasing without vehicle movement, failure to properly engage gears (including reverse), and loud whining/grinding noises. These issues make the vehicle unsafe to drive, especially when merging, crossing intersections, or accelerating from a stop. Toyota and the dealership have confirmed the transmission is failing, yet Toyota has stated that no new or used replacement transmission is available and no repair timeline exists. The vehicle was returned to me despite being unsafe. Toyota has provided no transportation assistance, no repair ETA, and no remedy, leaving me with an undrivable vehicle and ongoing financial obligations. I am aware of numerous similar consumer complaints and ongoing litigation involving Toyota’s 8-speed automatic transmissions exhibiting the same symptoms. This appears to be a systemic defect that poses a safety risk to drivers and the public. I am requesting NHTSA review and investigation.
I went a few months ago to Toyota to get an air flow valve replaced from a safety campaign for Toyota. My car engine light came on. Afterwards it never went off. My car shuts off after getting gas . Car doesn’t start for 20 mins. Coolant is leaking . Car idling high as if the valve that was replaced was faulty. The car acts like it’s gonna shut off. I take good care of my car & several people have the same complaints please investigate this. I don’t have the money to replace something that isn’t my fault.
The contact owns a 2020 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was not diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine oil was changed, and the oil warning light was reset. The mechanic informed the contact that the wiring harness had been damaged due to rodent activity and needed to be replaced. Additionally, the contact reported an issue with the battery draining. The vehicle was diagnosed with a battery failure, and the battery was replaced several times; however, the check engine warning light was occasionally illuminated. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 18,000. The VIN was not available.
The contact owns a 2020 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while driving 40 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power, with the engine, Forward Collision Avoidance, and brake malfunction warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the ECM had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 70,599. The VIN was not available.
transmission just stopped shifting yes its available for inspection. car suddenly wouldnt accelaerate on the highway. independant service center. has not been inspected by them. no warning lights prior to the incident also the junkyards want double the amount of money for these transmissions cause they say theyre in high demand because they tend to fail
2020 Toyota Camry 8 speed transmission hesitant and jerking This has led to me being unable to avoid accidents. It is unsafe to accelerate to avoid bad situations. Car has been back to Toyota and they can’t find the cause of the issue but have been able to reproduce it.
Transmission failed on a major parkway. A loud noise was heard and engine over-revved. Car started to vibrate and no forward gears worked. I had to drift across two lanes of a coming high speed traffic with no drive power. I eventually got to the side of the road. I put my hazards in as soon as it happened. The vehicle was towed to the location from which it was purchased new in 2020, and serviced at all intervals. The dealership has changed ownership and is now Ourisman Toyota of Richmond. They ran a diagnostic and confirmed that the transmission has failed. There were no warning lamps, however the day prior I noticed the transmission shifting seemed off. I made an appointment to take the car in for checking at the earliest available date. However the failure occurred two days before this date.the car’s mileage is just under 85k. We purchased a 6yr 75k VSP warranty however it has expired by mileage. Car is still financed by Toyota financing. Problem has been reported to Toyota Brand engagement center and has been escalated. We have not received a resolution yet and the case is still in queue after 3 business days:
The contact owns a 2020 Toyota Camry. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V865000 (Air Bags); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.
This is the Recall I am speaking about 23V865 for the 2020 Toyota Camry. This is a serious safety risk that I would like to have resolved. I drive around with my family and younger siblings and don't want there safety at risk. It's been 20 months since it was issued and there is no solution! This shouldn't still be any issue after 20 months.
The contact owns a 2020 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that the Occupant Classification System (OCS) sensor was defective and failed to recognize when the seat was empty. The contact stated that the failure initially occurred with the front passenger’s seat; however, the rear seats also experienced the failure. The contact had to restart the vehicle or fasten all seat belts to prevent the seat belt chime from activating. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V865000 (Air Bags); and linked the failure to the recall. The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
I rear ended a stopped tractor pulling a hay baler at 50 mph. my braking system sent no alerts nor did it brake for me. May airbags did not deploy. I sufferered a broken hand as a result of the impact.
Manufacturer has not been able to fix a safety recall on a timely manner .I read that air bags my not deployed and fatal injuries could be suffered if in an accident. It has been years since the recall came out and still no solution .
Incident Highway Malfunction Occurs – [XXX] While driving at a steady speed on the highway, my 2020 Toyota Camry unexpectedly shifted gears on its own. I did not bump the gear shifter or interact with the controls in any abnormal way. The gear shift occurred without warning or driver input, while the vehicle was in motion. A “Drive Start Control Malfunction” warning appeared on the dashboard at the time of the incident. Vehicle Towed to Toyota Service Center – July 11 2025 Following the incident, I brought the car to a Toyota dealership for diagnosis and repair. I spoke with a service advisor named Rebecca, explained the situation, and clearly stated that I did not hit or touch the gear. The vehicle was kept for inspection, repair and I communicatied with Toyota. Vehicle Picked Up – July 16, 2025 I picked up my car from the Toyota dealership on Wednesday, July 16, 2025. I had not yet heard back from Toyota about coverage or resolution. I chose to wait for further communication regarding whether they would take responsibility for the malfunction. Toyota Corporate Follow-Up Call – July 23, 2025 On Tuesday, July 23, 2025, Toyota corporate called to inform me that the repair would not be covered, citing that the vehicle is out of warranty. What disturbed me most was that the representative claimed I had told Rebecca that I might have “bumped the gear,” which is completely false. I made it clear from the beginning that I never touched the gear shifter, and that the malfunction occurred while I was driving normally. This false statement was either a miscommunication or a lie — and it minimizes the seriousness of a potential safety defect. Response to Toyota’s Misrepresentation – July 23, 2025 During the call, I told Toyota that misrepresenting my account was unacceptable and dangerous. If Toyota is aware that this vehicle model may experience uncommanded gear changes while in motion and fails to report. I was in an accident, going about 40mph (about 30mph at time of impact), and no airbags were deployed. Police officer reported that he also did not see that the tension of the seat belt remained tense after the crash. Seems that there was a problem with both systems. The other vehicle had all their airbags deploy.
This vehicle, and models with the same throttle body and air filter/air duct assembly have an issue. Where plastic parts from the vacuum box attached to the air duct come loose and get stuck in the throttle body. Causing the engine to rev up then die. I have dealt with this same issue twice in the last three weeks. Thank you for your time.
FORWARD FACING RADAR SYSTEM MALFUNCTION. IF VEHICLE IS PARKED IN THE SUN AND WINDSHIELD IS HOT THE FORWARD FACING RADAR IS OVERHEATED AND WHEN YOU START THE VEHICLE THE SAFETY SYSTEM FAIL TO BOOT UP. IF THIS ISN'T ENOUGH OF A SAFETY CONCERN THE ERROR MESSAGES OBSTRUCT YOUR INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SCREEN SO YOU CAN NOT SEE IMPORTANT THINGS LIKE YOUR SPEEDOMETER. YOU CAN CANCEL THE WARNING BUT WITH IN A FEW SECONDS IT REAPPEARS AND OBSTRUCTS YOUR VIEW. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP. THERE ARE NO RECALLS OR SAFETY BULLETINS ON IT FROM TOYOTA CORP AND NO KNOWN FIX. THIS PROBLEM DID NOT EXIST UNTIL TOYOTA MOVED FORWARD RADAR FROM GRILL AREA AND PLACED IT INSIDE WINDSHIELD TOP CENTER. IF I MANUALLY COOL THE AREA WITH COLD WATER OR PROLONGED FAN BLOWING ON THE AREA I CAN RESTART AND SAFETY SYSTEM BOOTS UP FINE. THIS CONTINUALLY HAPPENS OVER SEVERAL YEARS, AND YET STILL NO RECALL. SEVERAL DISCUSSIONS ON TOYOTA'S FORUM ABOUT THIS EXACT ISSUE. YET NEITHER TOYOTA OR NHTSA ARE ADDRESSING IT. LETS RECALL AND FIX THIS BEFORE SOMEONE DIES AS A RESULT OF THE SAFETY SYSTEM MALFUNCTION OR THE WARNING MESSAGE OBSTRUCTING THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER.
Door Lock Actuators failed on all doors. At times they don't unlock or don't lock. Toyota informed not covered under Warranty, No Recall or Campaign Notice. For the safety of myself and family I had them replaced at a mechanic. My truck lock is also faulty but not replaced. This started in May 2023 with one lock and again in December of 2024 with the other 3 locks.
On multiple occasions the doors have Locked or Unlocked automatically while driving. This puts my children at risk not knowing if doors will stay locked while driving. The problem has not been looked at a dealer. I doubt they could reproduce it being so random and infrequent. There were not any warning lamps or messages.

Description of the Problem: On May 19, 2025, the steering wheel intermediate shaft or column of my 2020 Toyota Camry LE Hybrid began to malfunction. The steering became unexpectedly hard and stuck, significantly affecting my ability to safely control the vehicle. This problem occurs intermittently but poses a serious safety risk as it can happen while the vehicle is in motion, especially during turns or lane changes. •The affected component is the steering column/intermediate shaft, and it is available for inspection upon request. •This malfunction put my safety and the safety of others at risk, as it limited my ability to steer accurately and could potentially result in a collision, especially in emergency or high-speed situations. •At this time, the issue has not yet been reproduced or confirmed by a Toyota dealership or an independent service center, but I am in the process of scheduling an inspection. •The vehicle has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance, or other parties, but I am prepared to provide access to the vehicle for a thorough inspection. •There were no warning lamps, error messages, or advance symptoms before the failure. The issue appeared suddenly on May 19, 2025, without any prior signs or indicators.
The panoramic sunroof on my 2020 Toyota Camry XSE failed to close on two separate occasions. The most recent incident occurred about three months ago. After opening the sunroof, the glass panel would not close, leaving the vehicle fully exposed during heavy rain. I had to cover the opening with plastic and tape while standing in the rain, which caused water to enter the vehicle and led to illness from exposure. This failure poses safety risks, including: Driver distraction if the failure occurs while driving. Possible water damage to electrical components, potentially affecting vehicle operation. Reduced visibility in heavy rain. Security risks if the vehicle cannot be secured. Online research and discussions with other owners revealed that this problem appears to be relatively common with Toyota Camry models equipped with a panoramic roof. My initial repair estimate was approximately $12,000, which is unreasonable given the vehicle’s value. I ultimately had the sunroof permanently sealed shut at my own expense. I have video evidence and documentation from both incidents, including an earlier occurrence on August 29, 2020, which was reported to a Toyota dealer but dismissed at the time. I believe this should be investigated as a potential recall.
This was a recall due to the coolant valve Thursday, my vehicle had went in for the recall I picked up my vehicle Friday morning I checked to make sure the part that they have changed nothing wrong with it or not. When I looked at the part a day after I noticed pink stuff is leaking from around it this was announced by Toyota This is the New part they had just made I’m assuming and it is still leaking I have a 2020 Toyota Camry. With 141,000 miles. And now I am having issues. Toyota needs to redesign this piece or have a further investigation on it.
engine coolant bypass valve 'a' control circuit/open: circuit short to battery or open I honestly feel like this is not safe. If you’re driving your engine could possibly overheat or it can crack the engine block and several different others I’m not a familiar mechanic this code just popped up My car is running a bit funny I would say that’s what made me do the scan in the first place Nobody has looked at it. I used a code scanner. I cleared the code and then I re-scanned it, and it was still there. Just for a future note, this is for a 2020 Toyota Corolla at 141,000 miles I have seen where the Toyota Corolla is having the same issue several different people at that so I do think they need to have a open investigation about this issue because it is an outgoing issue
Recall issued in December 2023…Remedy was estimated to be available in Q3 of 2024. It is now Q2 of 2025, and remedy is still not available.
