WAS DRIVING THE 08 MATRIX AT HIGHWAY SPEED ON INTERSTATE 90/94 WEST OF MADISON WI. STOPPED AT REST STOP AND HEAR LOUD, HOLLOW NOISE FROM UNDER VEHICLE. MADE IT TO MILWAUKEE AND BROUGHT CAR TO TOYOTA DEALER. WAS INFORMED ONE OF THE STRAPS HOLDING GAS TANK TO CAR FAILED DUE TO CORROSION, WEAR & TEAR AND AGE OF VEHICLE. WAS TOLD NOISE WAS DUE TO GASOLINE TANK, ROCK AND HEAT SHIELD CLANGING AGAINST CAR'S FRAME/CHASIS UNDERNEATH AND OUT OF SIGHT. WAS TOLD IF SECOND STRAP HAD FAILED IT COULD HAVE CREATED FIREBALL UNDER CAR. WAS TOLD STRAP FAILURE IS NOT UNCOMMON (REALLY?). VEHICLE REPAIRED FOR $129 OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES. NOT FEELING TOO SAFE ABOUT VEHICLE AT THIS POINT IN TIME BUT CANNOT AFFORD A NEW CAR TO REPLACE IT. *TR
REAR ENDED ANOTHER CAR BUT AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *JS
AIRBAG LIGHT ON DASHBOARD CAME ON WHILE SITTING IN TRAFFIC. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT OR INCIDENT. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THAT OEM SPIRAL CABLE TO THE SRS BAG WASN'T OPERATIONAL AND WOULDN'T DEPLOY IN AN ACCIDENT AND COULD POTENTIALLY BLOW OUT. *TR
I HAD TO REPLACE THE SERPENTINE BELT, BECAUSE IT WAS SQUEAKING (DRY AND CRACKED); I COMPLAINED TO TOYOTA ABOUT HAVING TO REPLACE IT AFTER SUCH A SHORT TIME BUT WAS TOLD BASICALLY THAT THEY DIDN'T CARE, SINCE THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. I HAVE HAD ONGOING - AND I THOUGHT UNRELATED - ISSUES WITH THE GEARS SLIPPING BUT COULDN'T IDENTIFY A CAUSE. IN JANUARY 2015, I HAD AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE THE GEARS SLIPPED. ON JULY 17, 2015, I HAD THE SERPENTINE BELT REPLACED FOR A SECOND TIME, BECAUSE IT WAS STARTING TO SQUEAK AGAIN. MUCH TO MY SURPRISE, THE NEW BELT, NOT MADE BY TOYOTA, SOLVED THE OTHER PROBLEMS I'VE HAD WITH SHIFTING (MY CAR IS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION). THE MECHANIC SAID THAT HE HAD HEARD COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER TOYOTA OWNERS ABOUT HAVING TO REPLACE THE SERPENTINE BELT, A PART THAT SHOULD LAST APPROX. 100,000 MILES/10 YEARS, AFTER ONLY 3 YEARS. IT WAS HIS OPINION THAT THE BELT WAS DEFECTIVE. THE DIFFERENCE A NEW, NON-TOYOTA BELT HAS MADE TO MY CAR - UNEXPECTEDLY RESOLVING THE OTHER ISSUES I WAS HAVING - HAS CONVINCED ME THAT TOYOTA IS MAKING A DEFECTIVE AND DANGEROUS PRODUCT, ONE THAT THEY FAIL TO ACKNOWLEDGE.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACTIVATE THE CRUISE CONTROL, THE CRUISE CONTROL BUTTON AND ARM SEPARATED FROM THE BASE DUE TO DEFECTIVE MATERIAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER, WHERE THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH AND ARM WERE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURE TOOK A COMPLAINT AND OFFERED TO REIMBURSE THE REPAIR COST. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 39,436. SM.
I WAS DRIVING 40 MPH ON STATE ROUTE 315 SOUTH. CARS IN FRONT OF ME STOPPED FOR A JACK-KNIFED TRUCK. I HIT MY BRAKES AND SLID ON BLACK ICE. I SLID 50 YARDS INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. MY FRONT IN WAS SMASHED IN, BENDING THE RADIATOR AND FRAME, CAUSING THE HOOD TO CRUMPLE AND THE SIDE PANELS TO JAM THE FRONT DOORS SHUT. MY HEAD SNAPPED FORWARD AND HIT MY CHEST UPON IMPACT, AND THEN SNAPPED BACK AGAINST THE HEADREST. MY CAR IS TOTALED FROM THIS, AND THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE COLLISION IMPACTED THE ENTIRETY OF THE FRONT OF MY VEHICLE. *TR
I HAVE RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL FROM TOYOTA, I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO FIX IT, DEALERSHIP DID IT , BUT I HAVE RECEIVED THE SAFETY RECALL AGAIN STATING THAT RECORDS INDICATE THAT THE VEHICLE HAS NOT YET HAD THIS CONDITION CORRECTED. IT IS EITHER THE DEALER DID NOT REPORT IT OR DEALER DID NOT DO IT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THERE WAS A LOUD BANGING NOISE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THE FRONT END OF THE FUEL TANK SHIELD PARTIALLY DETACHED DUE TO A LOOSE BOLT WHICH COMPLETELY RUSTED. THE CONTACT PLANNED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO BE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,500. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 55 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED. WHEN THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND. THE CONTACT THEN VEERED OFF THE ROAD AND PUMPED THE BRAKES WHILE RELEASING THE CLUTCH. THE VEHICLE THEN BECAME RESPONSIVE. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH THE CHECK ENGINE LAMP ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MECHANIC ALSO ADVISED HIM TO CONTACT THE DEALER SINCE THE FAILURE WAS ASSOCIATED WITH A RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TWICE TO HAVE RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V384000 ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING REPAIRED. THE THIRD TIME THE FAILURE OCCURRED, THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER SINCE THE FRONT AXLE BROKE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 72,063.
PLEASE SEE BELOW. DEALERSHIP FAILED TO INSTALL RECALLED PART. NOW I HAVE A NON-OPERATING CAR. I FEEL THIS WAS DONE ON PURPOSE TO SAVE PARTS AS IT IS NOW OBVIOUS THAT MY PART FAILED.2010 ECM RECALL [INCIDENT: [XXX]] I REVIEWED MY PAPERWORK AND NOTICED THAT THE ECM WAS ORDERED AND NEVER INSTALLED. THE DEALERSHIP FO WHATEVER REASON DECIDED NOT TO INSTALL IT ON 5/21/11 AND NOW IT HAS FAILED. THE TECHS COMMENTS ARE" NO ACTION REQUIRED/INSPECTED OK". WHY WOULD THEY ORDER A PART AND NOT INSTALL. I FEEL I AM OWED THIS PART AND THE INSTALL AS I THOUGHT IT WAS DONE AND FROM COMMENTS ON THE DEALER INVOICE IT WAS NOT. EVEN IF IT WAS REPLACED IT ONLY LASTED 2 YEARS AND A FEW MONTHS WHAT GIVES? MY DAUGHTER HAD A FRONTAL COLLISION WHILE DRIVING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH. OUR 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA S STRUCK ANOTHER VEHICLE ON ITS FRONT LEFT FENDER. OUR 2008 COROLLA SUSTAINED MAJOR FRONTAL DAMAGES, INCLUDING THE DISINTEGRATION OF THE BUMPER, DAMAGE TO THE HOOD, BOTH FENDERS, RADIATOR, ETC. THE FRONT STABILIZER BAR WAS RIPPED OFF THE CHASSIS. DURING THE IMPACT, THE SEAT BELTS LOCKED, HOWEVER, THE FRONT AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED!! THE CAR WAS TAKEN BACK TO EAST COAST TOYOTA, RT. 17, WOOD-RIDGE, NJ WHERE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED ON FEB. 22, 2011 AS A "CERTIFIED USED VEHICLE." WE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE FAULTY AIR BAGS & THAT THEY DID NOT DEPLOY IN A FRONTAL CRASH OF 30 MPH. THE GM OF THE DEALERSHIP & GM OF THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT KEPT THE VEHICLE FOR INSPECTION & TO HAVE A TOYOTA CORP. REP. LOOK AT THE CAR TO DETERMINE WHY THE FRONT AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE DEALERSHIP ATTEMPTED TO TELL US THAT THE AIRBAGS SHOULD ONLY DEPLOY DURING A FRONT IMPACT, BUT THE CAR DID IN FACT SUSTAIN HEAVY DAMAGES DO TO THE IMPACT BUT THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE IMPACT WAS SO GREAT THAT THE STEEL STABILIZER BAR WAS COMPLETELY RIPPED OFF. THAT ALONE SHOULD HAVE TRIGGERED THE AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY NOT DRIVABLE DUE TO THE NUMEROUS DAMAGE SUSTAINED TO THE FRONT END, MOTOR, RADIATOR & OTHER PARTS. WHILE DRIVING, THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE FAILED AGAIN AND CAUSED THE CONTACT TO CRASH. THE CRASH OCCURRED AFTER THE RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT DID NOT MENTION IF THERE WERE ANY INJURIES. THE CONTACT STATED THE MANUFACTURER WILL NOT REPLACE THE PART, BUT OFFERED TO KEEP THE VEHICLE AND INSPECT IT FOR APPROXIMATELY 6 MONTHS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,261 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 53,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTO SHOP FOR BODY REPAIR. THE CONTACT WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL VIA AMBULANCE FOR TREATMENT OF CHEST CONTUSIONS, A BRAIN CONCUSSION AND INJURIES TO THE SPINE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND SENT A TECHNICIAN TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,000. *TR
FAILED FLOOR JACK. THE GEAR MECHANISM FAILED WHILE THE CAR WAS LIFTED AND CAUSED THE CAR TO PARTIALLY DROP. THE TOP OF THE JACK BENT AND BROKE BUT LUCKILY THE CAR DID NOT FALL ALL THE WAY TO THE GROUND. *TR
GOT RECALL NOTICE THAT PART WAS AVAILABLE FOR REPAIR OF 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA ENGINE CONTROL MODEL REPAIR. I CALLED AND PART IS ON BACK ORDER AND WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL AT LEAST JUNE 2001...NOT TAKING WAITING LIST JUST KEEP CALLING BACK IN JUNE FOR PART AVAILABILITY. UPSET WITH TOYOTA FOR LACK OF PARTS, MOVED VERY SLOW ON DEVELOPMENT OF PARTS AND WITH LOCAL TOYOTA SOMERSET DEALERSHIP FOR NOT ASSISTING BY NOTIFYING WHEN PARTS IN TOLD TO KEEP CALLING BACK. *TR
I BOUGHT A 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA CE BRAND NEW FROM THE DEALER. ONLY A FEW MONTHS AFTER, I STARTED HEARING A VERY LOUD CLUNKING SOUND IN THE BRAKES WHEN I BACKUP AND BRAKE AND THEN WHEN I PULL FORWARD AND BRAKE. IT IS AN ALARMING SOUND SO I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER IT WAS PURCHASED FROM AT LEAST THREE TIMES SINCE AND THEY SAY IT'S THE BRAKE PADS SLIDING WHEN I BRAKE. THEY SAY THE ONLY THING THEY CAN DO FOR ME IS GREASE THEM, WHICH THEY HAVE DONE EACH TIME BUT IT KEEPS RETURNING. I CALLED ANOTHER TOYOTA DEALER TO INQUIRE ABOUT IT AND THEY TOLD ME THE SAME THING. I RECENTLY STARTED SEARCHING TO SEE IF I AM THE ONLY ONE THAT COMPLAINS OF THIS PROBLEM AND APPARENTLY I AM NOT!! SHOULDN'T TOYOTA HAVE SOME KIND OF A FIX FOR THIS BY NOW? PLEASE HELP I CANNOT EVEN SELL THE CAR BECAUSE EVERYONE THINKS THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH IT. *TR
2008 TOYOTA COROLLA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO PROBLEM WITH VEHICLE ENGINE *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED SHE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE REGARDING POTENTIAL ENGINE PROBLEMS. THE RECALL NOTICE STATED ANOTHER LETTER WOULD BE SENT WHEN THE REPLACEMENT PART BECAME AVAILABLE. HOWEVER, LAST WEEK WHILE DRIVING, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY STOPPED AND THE CONSUMER WAS NEARLY REAR ENDED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT WAS TOLD THE PART WAS STILL NOT AVAILABLE. *JB
WHILE DRIVING MY 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA LE AT 55 MPH, I ENCOUNTERED A DEER AND WAS INVOLVED IN A COLLISION WITH THE ANIMAL, ON SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 19TH, 2011. THE COLLISION TOTALED THE VEHICLE, RESULTING IN NEARLY 11K DOLLARS IN DAMAGE. THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG DURING THE ACCIDENT BECAME DISLODGED FROM THE STEERING WHEEL, AND FELL OUT INTO MY LAP. THE TWO TORQUE SCREWS USED TO HOLD IT IN THE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY FAILED TO FUNCTION PROPERLY. I REPORTED THE INCIDENT TO TOYOTA'S COMPLAINT DEPARTMENT AND FILED A FORMAL GRIEVANCE. A FACTORY REPRESENTATIVE CAME OUT TO SEE THE VEHICLE AND INSPECT THE SCREWS, AND SAID THAT THEY ARE NOT AT FAULT AND THAT THE PROBLEM "HAD TO BE MY FAULT" AFTER COMPARING MY VEHICLE TO OTHER TOYOTA COROLLA VEHICLES, STATING THAT I OR SOMEONE ELSE "HAD TO OF REMOVED THE AIRBAG AT SOME TIME DURING THE VEHICLE'S LIFE". I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED IN JANUARY, 2011 FROM A REPUTABLE DEALER AND RECEIVED A VEHICLE HISTORY. AT NO TIME WAS THE AIRBAG REPORTED TO HAVE BEEN DEPLOYED OR SERVICED, AND THE SCREWS REQUIRE A SPECIALIZED TORQUE SCREWDRIVER TO REMOVE. AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT, I HAD OWNED THE VEHICLE ONLY A MONTH, AND HAD NOT DRIVEN IT MORE THAN THREE TIMES, AS I OWN ANOTHER PRIMARY VEHICLE. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY DEFECT, AND I HAVE SEVERAL WITNESS STATEMENTS SHOWING THAT THE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY WAS NOT PROPERLY SECURED. HAD THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED WHILE IN MY LAP, I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED OR SERIOUSLY INJURED. THE ENTIRE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY, CARRIAGE, CHARGE, AND WIRES CAME OUT OF THE STEERING WHEEL ITSELF. THE CONTACT STATED HE APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO SHAKE FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THERE WERE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.

WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BEGAN ILLUMINATING ON THE DASHBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN DIRECTLY TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER BECAUSE PRIOR TO BEING REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL MOMENTS AFTER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BEGAN ILLUMINATING. THE ECM WAS REPLACED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 50,000.

ON NOVEMBER 22, 2010 I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE BETWEEN TWO PARKED CARS ON THE ROOF OF A PARKING GARAGE. THIS IS AN UPDATE TO COMPLAINT # 10314227 I HAVE HAD TWO MORE SUA'S. ONE WAS IN MAY WHEN I WAS PARKED AT A FAST FOOD RESTAURANT ON A SLIGHT UPWARD SLANT. THE CAR WAS SLIGHTLY WARM. IT WAS A DRY, COOL DAY. WHEN I SHIFTED INTO REVERSE AND BEGAN TO ROLL BACKWARD, I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO PAUSE TO LOOK FOR TRAFFIC. THEN THE MOTOR BEGAN TO RACE AS IF SOMEONE HAD FLOORED THE ACCELERATOR AND WAS HOLDING IT THERE. AS MY FOOT REMAINED ON THE BRAKE, WHICH FORTUNATELY HELD, I LOOKED AROUND TO SEE IF ANYONE WAS WITNESSING THE EVENT SO I WOULD HAVE SOMEONE TO BACK ME UP, BUT NO ONE WAS NEAR. IT STOPPED RACING AFTER A FEW SECONDS, THEN ABRUPTLY STARTING RACING AGAIN FOR A FEW SECONDS. ALL THIS TIME I WAS IN REVERSE AND HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. THEN IT SUDDENLY STOPPED. I PUT IT INTO PARK FOR A WHILE TO SEE WHAT IT WAS GOING TO DO, BUT WHEN NOTHING HAPPENED I WENT INTO REVERSE AGAIN AND THE ENGINE DID NOT RACE. THE SECOND OCCURRENCE WAS IN THE FIRST PART OF JUNE WHEN I HAD JUST GONE ABOUT 1/8 OF A MILE AND THE CAR WAS STILL COLD. IT WAS A WARM, DRY DAY. I WAS SITTING AT A LIGHT WAITING TO GET ON THE BELTLINE WHEN I HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE A MOTORCYCLE NEARBY RACING ITS ENGINE. MY RADIO WAS ON PLAYING MUSIC. I HEARD IT FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN IT STOPPED. I LOOKED AROUND FOR THE MOTORCYCLE. THEN IT STARTED AGAIN. BY THIS TIME I REALIZED THAT IT WAS MY ENGINE THAT WAS RACING. BY THE TIME I CUT THE RADIO OFF, IT HAD AGAIN STOPPED. SO THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME THE SUA HAPPENED WHEN THE ENGINE WAS RELATIVELY COLD AND WITH TWO SHORT EPISODES OF THE RACING ENGINE. I DID NOT THINK TO LOOK AT THE TACHOMETER. IT WAS TOO QUICK. AGAIN, MY FOOT NEVER LEFT THE BRAKE. WHEN THE LIGHT CHANGED I DROVE ON THROUGH THE TRAFFIC WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. WE GOT THE RECALL NOTICES FOR OUR TWO 2008 COROLLAS.. FOR THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V384000.. THEN WE GOT THE OTHER LETTER SAYING THAT WE CAN GO AND GET OUR CARS SERVICED. WE DID AND THERE THEY TOLD US THAT BOTH OUR CARS WERENT AFFECTED BY THE RECALL. YET WHILE WE WHERE WAITING TO BE CALLED UP ONE OF THE MECHANICS TOLD ME THAT BOTH OUR CARS NEEDED TO GET WHATEVER THEY WHERE GOING TO DO TO THEM DONE.. EVER SINCE THEN WE HAVE HAD OUR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON, FOR BOTH CARS.. WE HAVE SPENT A LARGE AMOUNT OF MONEY TRYING TO PASS SMOG CHECKS IN CALIFORNIA... ARE THERE ANY I DONT KNOW RECORDS OF WHAT CIRCUIT BOARDS HAD THAT PROBLEM? I WANT FOR MY MECHANIC TO CHECK IF INDEED THE BOARD WE HAVE ON OUR CARS WASNT A PART OF THE RECALL OR IF WE GOT SCREWED... DO THE BOARDS HAVE SERIAL NUMBERS AND IS IT KNOW WHAT SERIAL NUMBERS NEEDED THE RECALLS. THE TOYOTA PEOPLE DIDNT EVEN OPEN THE HOOD OF THE CAR... WE WAITED A COUPLE HOURS TO FINALLY GET CALLED UP AND THEN THEY HAD THE CAR TWO MINUTES AND TOLD US OUR CAR WAS GOOD. THOUGH IT WASNT, IT HAD ALL THE SYMPTOMS OF THE RECALL.. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW ALSO WHAT IT IS THEY SAID ABOUT THE RECALL ON OUYR CARS.. DID THEY SAY THEY FIXED THEM OR WHAT. THAT WOULD BE INTERESTING TO ME.. NOW UNFORTUNATELY THE KEPT THE RECALL NOTICES.. SO I DONT HAVE ANY OF THOSE.. EVER SINCE THAT RECALL ITS BEEN AN UPHILL BATTLE WIT THIS CAR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATE SPEEDS OF 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD DECELERATE WITHOUT DRIVER INTENT FOLLOWED BY AN ILLUMINATION OF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THE VEHICLE THEN BEGAN TO VIBRATE EXCESSIVELY AND WAS MOVED OFF THE ROADWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE MECHANIC ADVISED THAT THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE (ECM) WAS DEFECTIVE. THE ECM WAS REPLACED BY A LOCAL DEALER UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,200 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 28,300. UPDATED 07/26/10. *LJ U[DATED 08/16/10*JB
WHILE APPLYING BRAKE, CAR SUDDENLY SURGED FORWARD (HARD ACCELERATION). MINOR ACCIDENT ENSUED, SEVERAL POLICE OFFICERS OBSERVED ACCIDENT. *TR
VEHICLE EXPERIENCED AN UNCOMMANDED ACCELERATION. WE WERE APPROACHING THE EXIT FROM THE DENTAL SCHOOL PARKING AND HAD TO SLOW FOR ANOTHER CAR WAITING TO TURN. WHEN THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY WENT INTO FULL ACCELERATION CAUSING US TO SWIPE THE WAITING CAR AND FORCING EXTREME EVASIVE ACTION. SITUATION WAS WITNESSED BY TRAFFIC OFFICER DIRECTING TRAFFIC. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BODY SHOP WHERE IT WAS INVESTIGATED BY THE MANUFACTURER'S REPRESENTATIVE. NO FAULT WAS FOUND. VEHICLE WAS TRADED IN AND IS IN DEALERS POSSESSION - FOR POTENTIAL RESALE. THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT THERE WAS A FAULT BECAUSE THERE WAS CLEARLY NO CONTACT WITH THE ACCELERATOR DURING THE EVENT. WE REFUSED TO DRIVE THE CAR AGAIN! *TR
