TL-THE DRIVER OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING AT 37 MPH THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED BUT FAILED. THE VEHICLE STOPPED WHEN ONE OF THE TIRES WENT FLAT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 30,850. SM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 35 MPH AND ATTEMPTING A LEFT TURN WHEN A VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE FRONT OF THE CONTACTS VEHICLE AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED IN REGARDS TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 26,000.
MY TOYOTA COROLLA CE SEDAN AUTOMATIC, YR: 2008. MILEAGE 69938. WARRANTY IS OUT. 04/25/10 WHILE MY CAR WAS PARKED I STARTED ENGINE, GAS PEDAL DID NOT ACCELERATE., ENGINE HAD LOW TONE & SLOWLY WENT OFF. I TRIED 4-5 TIMES, PRESSING ON GAS PEDAL WHILE ENGINE WAS ON, SAME RESULT. FINALLY. I STARTED ENGINE, WITHOUT DEPRESSING GAS PEDAL, I BACKED UP, THEN, I PUT GEAR IN DRIVE & MOVED THE CAR FORWARD, AFTER ABT 2 MINUTES I DEPRESSED GAS PEDAL, ENGINE ACCELERATED & DROVE ON. IT HAS BEEN NORMAL EVER SINCE. I HAD PREVIOUS 2 SIMILAR CASES BUT ENGINE ACCELERATED ON 2ND TRY. 4/26/10, I REPORTED IT, AS MANUFACTURING DEFECT, TO TOYOTA DEALER & ASKED FIXING IT WITHOUT CHARGE TO ME. DEALER HAD CAR CHECKED BY A TECHNICIAN, HE COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE & SAID I SHOULD LEAVE IT FOR COMPLETE INSPECTION AT $98/HR. I TOLD CUSTOMER RELATIONS MGR I COULD NOT PAY IT. HE HAD THE CAR INSPECTED AGAIN, THIS TIME BY HEAD MECHANIC AT WORKSHOP ABT 20 MINUTES. HE SAID CAR WAS OK & COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE. 4/28/10 I FAXED ALL IN DETAIL TO TOYOTA MOTOR SALES USA INC, TORRANCE, CA, DEPT WC11 (CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE CENTER). 04/29/10, THEY EMAILED "DUE TO HIGH CONTACT VOLUME, WE ARE UNABLE TO RESPOND TO YOUR INQUIRY IN A TIMELY MANNER AND IT MAY TAKE SEVERAL WEEKS TO RECEIVE A RESPONSE TO YOUR INQUIRY". 4/27/10, I EMAILED "TOYOTA OWNERS MEMBER REGISTRATION" & REGISTERED MYSELF AS TOYOTA MEMBER. THEN, I REPORTED MY PROBLEM. 05/04/10 TOYOTA CALLED, A LADY ASKED ME TO RECOUNT MY STORY, AGAIN & AGAIN, OBVIOUSLY TRYING TO WORN ME OUT. SHE SAID SHE HAD NOT SEEN MY ORIGINAL REPORT, SO I FAXED HER COPY OF MY FAX 5/04/10 & ASKED HER HELP. 05/04/10, SHE EMAILED: I SHOULD CONTACT DEALERSHIP. "IF THE DEALERSHIP DISCOVERS A WARRANTY CONCERN, ALL FEES WILL BE COVERED, OTHERWISE YOU WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL COSTS RELATED TO THE INSPECTION....." I WAS TRAVELING LESS THAN 30 MPH AND STOPPED AT A STOPLIGHT. THE MOMENT THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, MY CAR STALLED. THE ENGINE LIGHT AND BATTERY LIGHT WENT ON. AFTER I RESTARTED, IT DROVE ALL RIGHT FOR ANOTHER 10 MINUTES. IT STALLED OUT AGAIN AT ANOTHER STOPLIGHT. SCARED TO GO ON THE HIGHWAY, I PULLED INTO A HOTEL PARKING LOT. THE CAR MADE JERKY VIBRATIONS AND WOULD GO NO FASTER THAN 10 MPH REGARDLESS OF THE PRESSURE ON THE GAS PEDAL. I TOOK IT TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, AND THEY SAID THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE WAS BAD. IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, AND I WAS NOT CHARGED FOR THE REPLACEMENT (THANKFULLY!). *TR
I WAS DECELERATING WITH MY RIGHT FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT. THERE WAS A CAR AHEAD OF ME AT THE LIGHT, AND AS I PULLED UP BEHIND IT, I PUT MY RIGHT FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. WHEN I HIT BRAKES, I FOUND THAT THE CAR WAS NOT STOPPING AND THAT THE CAR WAS ACCELERATING. I PUT BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE, AND PULLED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE BUT THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE UNTIL IT ENDED UP PUSHING ON THE CAR AHEAD OF ME. I DID EVERYTHING I COULD THINK OF TO STOP THE CAR, BUT WAS UNABLE TO DO SO UNTIL I TURNED THE KEY OFF. AS FAR AS I KNOW, THERE WERE NO INJURIES, AIR BAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY, NO TICKETS WERE ISSUED AND THE BUMPERS OF BOTH CARS WERE NOT DENTED, BUT HAD VERY DEEP SCRAPES ON THEM. THE MAT WAS HOOKED AT THE TIME AND WAS NOT INVOLVED AND I DIDN'T TOUCH THE GAS. I HAD MY HUSBAND FOLLOW ME TO MY DEALERSHIP, WHERE I ASKED THEM TO INSPECT THE CAR AND LET ME KNOW IF IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. THEY REFUSED TO INSPECT IT AND REFERRED ME TO MY INSURANCE COMPANY. I DID THAT, BUT I ALSO TALKED TO TOYOTA'S SERVICE LINE IN CALIFORNIA AND THEY SAID THE BEST THEY COULD DO WAS ARRANGE FOR AN INSPECTION WITH RESULTS IN APPX 74 DAYS. MY INSURANCE COMPANY HAD AN INDEPENDENT INSPECTION, BUT ALL HE TOLD ME WAS THAT MY ACCELERATOR WAS NOT "CABLE". THE TOYOTA COMPANY TOLD ME I COULD GO AHEAD AND HAVE THE BODY WORK DONE AS LONG AS THE REPAIRS DID NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE BRAKE OR THE IGNITION. POLICE WERE CALLED AT THE SCENE, BUT DID NOT MEET WITH US. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE SHIFTING INTO THE PARK POSITION, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED TO 35 MPH AND CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF A PARKED VEHICLE. THE CONTACT PLACED BOTH FEET ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BUT COULD NOT GAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES BUT A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSIS AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 29,300.
ON 1-30-10 I TOOK MY CAR FOR ITS FIRST "FREE" LUBE ETC.AND I MENTIONED A "SURGE" WHEN ACCELERATING AND ALSO AN INTERMITTENT CLUNK SOUND WHEN BRAKING. THEY FOUND NO PROBLEM. ON 1-30-10 I WAS DRIVING INTO MY GARAGE SLOWLY TO REACH A CONE I HAVE PLACED TO "STOP". ABOUT A FOOT FROM THE CONE THE ACCELERATOR SURGED INTO THE CONE, AND A CABINET AND TABLE BEHIND THE CONE WERE DAMAGED, PLUS $4653.76 DAMAGE TO MY CAR. *TR
IT'S TOYOTA COROLLA 2008. THE ENGINE STALLING HAPPENED 3 TIMES SINCE LAST FRIDAY. ONCE AT TOLL STATION, TWICE AT HIGHWAY, WHEN I TRIED REDUCE SPEED, THE ENGINE STALLING. I HAVE TO TURN ON ALERT LIGHT, STOP CAR, MOVE TO PARK POSITION IN THE MIDDLE OF HIGHWAY. THEN TURN ON THE ENGINE AGAIN. IT'S VERY DANGER AT HIGHWAY.
AS I WAS DRIVING MY 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA THROUGH THE INTERSECTION OF ILLINOIS ROUTE 60 IN VERNON HILLS ON MARCH, 17,2010 MY VEHICLE'S CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BECAME ACTIVATED AND MY CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN IN TRAFFIC ALMOST CREATING A TRAFFIC ACCIDENT . THE CAR WOULD NOT RE-START AFTER ABOUT 10 SECONDS,HOWEVER, WOULD RESTART AFTER APPX.30 SECONDS ON THE SECOND START ATTEMPT. I DROVE THE CAR TO MY PERSONAL REPAIR SHOP WHOM GAVE BE A DIAGNOSTIC FAULT CODE OF P0607.(FAULTY ECU) NOTE:THE RIGHT FRONT STRUT ASSEMBLY AND WATER PUMP HAS ALSO WENT OUT SINCE THIS CAR HAS BEEN UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
MY VEHICLE ACCELERATED AND I HIT THE VEHICLE AHEAD OF ME DESPITE BRAKING AS HARD AS I COULD
DRIVING ON MY WAY TO WORK WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH IN WHICH MY BRAKES DID NOT COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, CAUSING ME TO CRASH IN TO A CAR IN FRONT OF ME. *TR
YESTERDAY MORNING I WAS DRIVING SLOWLY UP TO A STOP SIGN. I DOWNSHIFTED AND APPLIED THE BRAKES, BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT COME TO A STOP. I HAD TO ROLL THROUGH THE INTERSECTION. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THAT THIS HAS OCCURRED SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. I CONTINUED ON. I WAS DRIVING 30 MPH IN A 40 MPH ZONE. I AGAIN SLOWED DOWN AND DOWNSHIFTED TO TURN INTO A DRIVEWAY. THE BRAKES AGAIN FAILED. IT FELT AS THOUGH I COULD NOT PRESS DOWN HARD ENOUGH ON THE BRAKES TO STOP. I COULD NOT TURN OUT OF THE WAY OF A GARBAGE CAN AND PILE OF ROCKS, JUST MISSING A MAILBOX. THERE IS NOW MINOR, COSMETIC DAMAGE TO THE FRONT OF MY VEHICLE. THIS PROBLEM HAS INCONSISTENTLY OCCURRED OVER THE LAST YEAR. SHORTLY AFTER I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE, I BROUGHT IT BACK DUE TO THE BRAKES NOT FEELING RIGHT, AND A METAL ON METAL SOUND THAT OCCURRED WHEN I PRESSED ON THE BRAKES. TOYOTA LOOKED AT THE BRAKES AND SAID THAT THEY WERE BEHAVING NORMALLY. AGAIN, THIS MORNING I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN BECAUSE I COULD NOT CONTROL IT IN YESTERDAY'S INCIDENT. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT TOYOTA LOOKED AT THE VEHICLE, TEST DROVE IT WITH ME, BUT THE ISSUE DID NOT OCCUR SO THERE WAS NOTHING MORE THEY COULD DO ABOUT IT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60-65 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. THE CONTACT ENGAGED THE ACCELERATOR WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO DECELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SHOULD BE TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE DEALER REPLACED THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED THREE ADDITIONAL TIMES. THE SECOND TIME THE DEALER REPROGRAMMED THE ECM. THE THIRD AND FOURTH FAILURES, THE ECM WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALER. DECEMBER 2010, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE DEALER REPLACED A PART TO THE COMPUTER. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER, FILED A COMPLAINT AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL 10V384000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 35,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 53,000.
ENGINE CHECK LIGHT CAME ON, WITHOUT APPARENT REASON (I.E. NOT BEHIND ON MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE). SHORTLY AFTER, ENGINE STARTED STALLING; FIRST TIME JUST FELL LIKE ENGINE WAS BEING SLUGGISH AND NEEDED TO GIVE MORE GAS TO GET POWER; SECOND TIME, CAR NEARLY FELL STILL (DOWN TO A COUPLE OF MPH'S), EVEN WHEN APPLYING SERIOUS GAS (AND CLEARLY HITTING HIGH RPM & ENGINE ROARING LOUDLY). JUST MANAGED TO PULL THE CAR ASIDE. WHEN TOWTRUCK ARRIVED 30 MINUTES LATER, PROBLEM HAD DISAPPEARED... (FOR NOW). A QUICK CHECK ON GOOGLE SOUNDS LIKE THIS MAY BE DUE TO MANY CAUSES, FROM SIMPLE AIR INTAKE SENSOR, TO MORE SERIOUS ECM PROBLEMS. EITHER WAYS, HAVING YOUR ENGINE STALL SUDDENLY SEEMS PRETTY DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY IF THIS HAPPENS IN BUSY TRAFFIC. PLAN TO HAVE THIS CHECKED OUT IMMEDIATELY. *TR
I BACKED MY 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA OUT OF MY GARAGE, WITH THE STEERING WHEEL TURNED LEFT. I USED THE REMOTE CONTROL TO CLOSE THE GARAGE DOOR. I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE, INTENDING TO PULL FORWARD AND TO THE RIGHT UP THE DRIVE. I GENTLY GAVE THE CAR SOME GAS, BUT THE CAR ACCELERATED SUDDENLY BEFORE I COULD TURN THE WHEEL. AS A RESULT, THE UNSTOPPABLE CAR SHOT OFF THE DRIVEWAY AND DOWN A SLOPE WHERE I CRASHED HEAD ON INTO A TREE. THE AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. *TR
ON SATURDAY FEBRUARY 6, 2010, MY TOYOTA COROLLA SKID ON THE ROAD WAS HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO A TELEPHONE POLE. *TW
DEFECTIVE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE IN THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL SYSTEM. AS A RESULT, THE ENGINE SPEED DID NOT INCREASE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED WHEN THE TRAFFIC LIGHT TURN GREEN. LOW SPEED DRIVING (LESS THAN 20 MPH) WAS USED TO REMOVE VEHICLE FROM ROAD. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THE COMPUTER CONTROL MODULE WAS REPLACED. *TR
MY SON WAS PULLING INTO A DRIVEWAY WHEN THE CAR ACCELERATOR PEDAL STUCK AND THE CAR SPED UP AND CRASHED THROUGH A FENCE BEFORE STOPPING AFTER BOTH FEET WERE APPLIED TO THE PEDAL. THE CAR IS A 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA. THERE WAS $4650 DAMAGE TO THE CAR AND OVER $600 DAMAGE TO THE FENCE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH IN REVERSE THE VEHICLE WOULD MAKE A LOUD BANGING NOISE. THE NOISE WAS WITHIN THE DRIVE TRAIN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE ONLY OCCURRED IN COLD WEATHER. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE OR DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT HAS REQUESTED THAT A TECHNICIAN WITH THE MANUFACTURER INSPECT THE VEHICLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22,830. I HEARD RATTLING WHICH I THOUGHT WAS FROM MY TRUNK. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO LOCATE THE RATTLE, I DISCOVERED THAT IT WAS MY BACK WINDOW. THERE IS A SEAL FAILURE AND YOU CAN LITERALLY LIFT THE REAR WINDOW IN MY 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP TELLS ME THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE. THE CAR HAD APPROXIMATELY 50,000 MILES WHEN I FIRST NOTICED THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP TELLS ME THAT I SHOULDN'T WAIT TO GET THIS REPAIRED. HOWEVER, THE DEALERSHIP ALSO SAID THEY WOULD REPAIR THE SEAL, BUT I HAVE TO PAY FOR THE PART THAT GOES AROUND THE REAR WINDOW AND THAT MY 100,000 EXTENDED WARRANTY WILL NOT COVER THIS. UNFORTUNATELY, THAT PART DOES NOT GO ALL THE WAY AROUND THE REAR WINDOW, LEAVES THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDOW EXPOSED AND THUS THE POSSIBILITY FOR THIS TO OCCUR ON ALL OF THESE VEHICLES AS WELL AS REOCCUR ON THIS ONE. I HAVE TAKEN PICTURES OF THIS. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY I SHOULD PAY FOR ANYTHING SINCE THIS IS NOT A WEAR AND TEAR ISSUE. IT IS DEFECTIVE! *TR

THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE IDENTICAL FAILURE OCCURRED ONE MONTH PRIOR TO THE RECENT INCIDENT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 19,997.

THE CONTACT THOUGHT THE VEHICLE ACCELERATE DUE TO OPERATOR ERROR. THE FOLLOWING WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH IN REVERSE, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE PASSENGER OF THE VEHICLE. NO ONE WAS INJURED DURING THE CRASH. THE CONTACT RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE RENTAL COMPANY SINCE IT WAS UNSAFE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK DURING DECEMBER. THERE WAS A HORRIBLE SNOW STORM AND WE HAD TO DRIVE THROUGH SOME HEAVY SNOW AND SKIDDED A FEW TIMES BUT GAINED CONTROL OF THE CAR. THE INCIDENT HAPPENED WHEN WE WERE OUT OF THAT AREA AND CLEAR UP SNOW WE SLOWED DOWN TO ABOUT 15 MPH AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND A LIGHT CAME ON AND SAID TO PULL CAR OVER AND CALL TOYOTA AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. I CALLED AND THEY SAID IT WAS PROBABLY THE BATTERY. I CHECKED THE BATTERY AND IT WAS FINE. IT WAS CHARGED NORMALLY. IT HAS NOT HAPPENED LATELY BUT I AM A BIT WORRIED ABOUT DRIVING AROUND IN ICY CONDITIONS INCASE IT HAPPENS AGAIN!! *TR

THE BRAKE PEDAL EXTENDED SUBSTANTIALLY FARTHER INTO THE FLOORBOARD THAN USUAL. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO OFFER A REMEDY FOR THE FAILURE. THERE WERE NO REPAIRS MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 24,885. ON FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS THE ENGINE REVVED UP TO 6000RPM ON MY 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA CE WHEN I WAS STOPPED. MY FOOT WAS OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND NO FLOOR MATS WERE NEAR THE ACCELERATOR. ACCORDING TO THE WORK ORDER, THE END OF THE AXLE WAS BROKEN OFF IN THE DIFFERENTIAL AND THE AXLE SEAL WAS LEAKING.
