I OWN A 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA CE. WHEN I DRIVE AND THEN STOP AND OR GO IN REVERSE MY CAR MAKES A WEIRD NOISE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER IT WAS PURCHASED FROM THREE TIMES AND THEY SAY IT'S THE BRAKE PADS SLIDING WHEN YOU USE THE BRAKE. THEY SAY THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO REPAIR IT. THEY SAY IF THEY REPLACE THE BRAKES THE NOISE WILL RETURN ONCE I USE THE BRAKES. THEY SAY WHEN THE BRAKES ARE USED THE BRAKE PAD SLIDES FORWARD OR REVERSE DEPENDING ON DIRECTION OF TRAVEL. I CALL ANOTHER TOYOTA DEALER IN MY AREA AND THEY TOLD ME THE SAME THING. *TR
MY CAR WANDERS SIDE TO SIDE WHILE DRIVING AT HIGH SPEEDS ON INTERSTATE AND HIGHWAYS. *TR
ON JANUARY 31, 2009 AT ABOUT 3:00 P.M. MY CAR WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY IN THE COUNTRY - MY BROTHER, SISTER AND I WERE STANDING 10 FT AWAY FROM MY CAR WHEN THE WINDOW EXPLODED. THE WINDOW WAS SHATTERED AND FELL TO THE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE CAR. NO EXPLAINED REASON FOR THIS TO HAPPEN. WE WERE STANDING THERE DOING NOTHING BUT TALKING AND NOBODY ELSE WAS AROUND. THERE WAS NO OTHER DAMAGE TO THE CAR EXCEPT THE SHATTERED WINDOW. FROM SEARCHING ON THE INTERNET THIS UNEXPLAINED WINDOW EXPLOSION HAS BEEN HAPPENING TO CAR WINDOWS. THE TEMPERATURE AT THE TIME WAS 65-68 DEGREES. I WILL PAY TO HAVE THE WINDOW REPLACED. TOYOTA WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THIS IS HAPPENING TO COROLLAS. *TR
FROM THE DAY OF PURCHASE, THE GAS PEDAL WAS WAY TOO HARD TO PRESS. IT IS SIMILAR TO THE TENSION OF A CLUTCH PEDAL. THE REGIONAL/DISTRICT TOYOTA SERVICE MANAGER AND THE SERVICE REPS AT THE AT KEARNY MESA TOYOTA IN SAN DIEGO STATED THE IT WAS NORMAL AND THAT ALL OF THE COROLLAS WERE THE SAME. HOWEVER, WHEN SAN DIEGO MOSSY TOYOTA SERVICE PERSONNEL WERE ASKED ABOUT THIS, THEY STATED ON 8 OR 9 JAN 09 THAT THERE HAD BEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE GAS PEDAL HAVING TOO MUCH TENSION AND THAT THERE PROBABLY WOULD BE A RECALL ON IT IN THE FUTURE. WHILE THIS MAY NOT CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT, I AM SURE THAT SOMEONE WILL TRY TO ACCELERATE SLOWLY, AND BECAUSE OF THE TENSION, THEY WILL LUNGE FORWARD AND STRIKE ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE PEDAL REQUIRES A CONSTANT AWARENESS TO AVOID LUNGING. IT IS EVEN MORE DIFFICULT TO TAKE OFF ON AN INCLINE SMOOTHLY. *TR
I WAS TRYING TO PARK MY 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA + STEPPED ON THE BRAKES BUT THE CAR SPED UP INSTEAD. THIS HAPPENED X 2. I HIT THE CURB VERY HARD AND TURNED OFF THE IGNITION. IF THE CURB HADN'T STOPPED MY CAR IT WOULD HAVE KEPT ON GOING. *TR*SM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING AND WOULD NOT RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP WHERE THE COMPUTER WAS REPLACED. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE BATTERY HAD BEEN REPLACED THREE TIMES. PURCHASED MY COROLLA '08 MODEL 6 PM ON DEC. 7TH '08. DURING THE FOLLOWING WEEK I CALLED THE DEALER BECAUSE I WAS HAVING DIFFICULTY KEEPING THE CAR IN A STRAIGHT LINE IT FELT LIKE THE WIND WAS BLOWING ME LEFT THEN RIGHT. BUT THERE WASN'T WIND. LIKE IT WAS POSSESSED, IT VEERED OFF ROAD ON DECEMBER 29TH, 2008. THE TIRE BLEW OUT AND THE FENDER CRUMPLED WHICH LEFT A DENT. SCARED ME TO DEATH, I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALER REPAIR SHOP AND THEY MADE IT LOOK LIKE IT WAS MY FAULT AND THAT WHAT I WAS SAYING WAS IMPOSSIBLE. THE REPAIR TECH TOOK THE CAR FOR A RIDE AND SUGGESTED NEW TIRES IN THE FRONT. THEY GAVE ME 1 TIRE FOR WHICH THEY TRIED CHARGING ME WITH AN ATTITUDE, I ARGUED THE POINT THAT IT WAS THE CAR'S FAULT AND NOT MINE. TO SHUT ME UP THEY AGREED TO PAY FOR THE TIRE AND LET ME LEAVE WITH A CAR THAT WEAVES IN AND OUT AT ITS OWN DISCRETION, LIKE IT HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN. I CALLED AGAIN TO TOYOTA DURING THE MONTH OF JANUARY AND WAS TOLD AND I QUOTE, TO BRING THE CAR BACK ON A DAY WITHOUT OUT WIND SO THAT THE MECHANIC COULD TEST DRIVE IT. WHAT A JOKE! FINALLY ON A DAY WITH HEAVY RAIN THE CAR SPUN ME OUT AND I CALLED THE DEALER TO COMPLAIN THAT THE CAR FELT LIKE IT WAS ON SKATES AND WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED TO BRING THE CAR IN FOR EVALUATION WHEN IT WASN'T RAINING OR WINDY. AGAIN A JOKE! I CONTINUED TO TRY TO DRIVE THIS CAR BUT ONLY TO GET ME TO WORK WHICH IS 20 MINUTES FROM MY HOUSE ON A CITY ROAD. I DON'T DRIVE ON THE HWY BECAUSE I COULDN'T CONTROL THE CAR. THE WEEKEND OF VALENTINES DAY 2010 MY HUSBAND TOOK US TO ASHEVILLE NC. THE CAR ALMOST DROVE US INTO A TRACTOR TRAILER, LUCKILY MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING WHO CAN LIFT 60LBS IN 1 ARM. HE SAVED OUR LIVES. ON FEB18TH WE TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND TOLD THEM WERE LEAVING IT THERE AND WILL GET A RIDE HOME THAT WE DIDN'T CARE ABOUT IT AND WOULD CALL A LAWYER FINALLY A NICE MAN AT TOYOTA GOT THE POINT AND HELPED US BY TRADING IN THE CAR FOR A NEW '10 TOYOTA COROLLA, DISAPPOINTING WE GOT BELOW VALUE FOR THE CAR BUT MY LIFE IS SAFE. *TR

THE VEHICLE STOPPED AFTER HITTING THE CEMENT POST IN FRONT OF A SUPERMARKET. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE HAD NOT EXPERIENCED THIS FAILURE IN THE PAST. THERE WAS NO WARNING THAT THE ISSUE WOULD OCCUR. SHE SPOKE WITH BOTH THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WHO WOULD NOT ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 3,200. S10 COMEBACK-LETTER TO THE SECRETARY FROM RE TOYOTA UNINTENDED ACCELERATION *TGW 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN SHE APPLIED THE BRAKE AT LESS THAN 5 MPH TO EXECUTE A LEFT TURN INTO A PARKING SPACE, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY AND FOR NO APPARENT REASON SURGED AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. 2008 COROLLA ACCELERATES ON IT'S OWN APPROXIMATELY ONCE A WEEK SINCE PURCHASING THE VEHICLE 10/2008. ALWAYS ON HIGHWAY, IT FEELS LIKE WHEN THE CRUISE RESUMES, THE WAY THE CAR JUST PICKS UP SPEED AS SOMETHING IS PUSHING IT, BUT THE CRUISE IS NOT ON. IT DOES SLOW DOWN WHEN I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE GAS PEDAL, SO IT DOESN'T FEEL LIKE A PEDAL STICKING. SINCE RECALLS OF OTHER VEHICLES I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER I HAVE MY CAR SERVICED BY THAT IT IS SOMETHING ELECTRONICALLY AND IS NORMAL. I HAVE ASKED EVERYONE I KNOW IF THEIR CARS DO THIS, NO ONE HAS EVER EXPERIENCED THIS, EVEN SOMEONE WHOSE CAR HAS BEEN RECALLED FOR THE SO CALLED GAS PEDAL STICKING. I'M GETTING VERY SCARED TO DRIVE MY CAR AS I DRIVE 80 MILES ROUND TRIP FOR WORK. ALSO, MY BRAKES MAKE THIS LOUD CLUNK SOUND 1/2 THE TIME THEY ARE APPLIED. HAD THEM CHECKED ABOUT A YR AGO AND THEY ALSO SAID THIS IS NORMAL. AGAIN NO ONE I HAVE TALKED TO HAS THIS PROBLEM. *TR
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HER NEW (ONE MONTH OLD) 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA (BASIC 4-DOOR SEDAN) ON A LOCAL EXPRESSWAY WHEN THE CAR IN FRONT BRAKED ABRUPTLY. MY WIFE APPLIED THE BRAKES BUT COULD NOT BRING THE CAR TO A COMPLETE HALT EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS CONSIDERABLE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE TWO VEHICLES. SHE COMPLAINED THAT THE BRAKES WERE "LOOSE". WE TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER IMMEDIATELY, BUT THEY TOLD US THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. WE LEFT THINKING MAYBE IT WAS OUR DRIVING- THOUGH WE ARE VERY SAFE DRIVERS. SINCE THEN, WHENEVER I DROVE THE VEHICLE, A NUMBER OF TIMES I FOUND THAT THE CAR DOES NOT STOP WHEN I BRAKE, AND I USUALLY HAVE TO SWERVE TO THE SIDE TO AVOID THE CAR IN THE FRONT. WE HAVE FOUND THIS PROBLEM WHEN WE ARE DRIVING USUALLY BETWEEN 35-45MPH SPEED. NOW WITH TOYOTA DISCOVERING PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES IN 2009-10 VEHICLES, I SUSPECT THIS PROBLEM ALSO EXISTS IN THE 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA VEHICLES AS WELL. *TR
ON 8/29/08 I WAS SLOWLY ACCELERATING AS I PULLED ONTO THE HIGHWAY WHEN I EXPERIENCED WHAT I HAVE COME TO UNDERSTAND WAS AN SUA, A SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. WITH HEAD-ON TRAFFIC COMING AT ME FAST I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO TURN SHARPLY TO GET OFF THE ROAD. MY REAR AXLE WAS CAUGHT ON A BERM OF DIRT AT THE EDGE OF A CORNFIELD. BRAKING HAD NO EFFECT. AS I SAT THERE I REALIZED THE ENGINE WAS RACING WILDLY. THERE WAS NO OBSTRUCTION TO THE GAS PEDDLE, SO I HAD TO CUT OFF THE ENGINE BY TURNING THE KEY OFF. MY CAR IS A 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE ROAD WAS DRY, HOWEVER, IT WAS A DAMP MORNING AND CHILLY. I HAVE HAD NO RECURRENCES. I AM A SAFETY COMPLIANCE OFFICER WITH OSHA SO I IMMEDIATELY BEGAN INVESTIGATING THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE SYSTEM. I DO NOT FEEL THE ADDITION OF THE PLATE BEHIND THE GAS PEDAL IS THE SOLUTION. TOYOTA TOLD ME AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT THAT IT WOULD DO NO GOOD TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE SENSOR, SO I REALIZED THAT THEY HAD A DEFECT PROBLEM. I AM LOOKING INTO ADDING A SMART THROTTLE SOFTWARE PLUG-IN TO PROVIDE AN OVERRIDE TO THE THROTTLE. TOYOTA REFUSED TO TELL ME WHO MADE THE PART OR FROM WHOM THEY PURCHASED IT. PLEASE PROVIDE ME THAT INFORMATION IF POSSIBLE. PLEASE CONTINUE YOUR INVESTIGATION, AND I WOULD SUGGEST WIDENING IT TO INCLUDE ALL DRIVE-BY-WIRE SYSTEMS. *TR

ON AUG. 1, 2008 I BOUGHT A CERTIFIED USED 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA WITH 5,420 MILES ON IT FROM MANHATTAN BEACH TOYOTA, IN MANHATTAN BEACH, CA. AFTER DRIVING IT FOR SEVERAL WEEKS, I REALIZED THERE WAS SOMETHING TROUBLING ABOUT THE ACCELERATOR. WHENEVER I DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR TO MAKE A STANDING START -- WHEN A TRAFFIC SIGNAL TURNED GREEN, FOR EXAMPLE -- THE CAR WOULD OFTEN LURCH FORWARD IN AN UNCONTROLLABLE MANNER. I SOON TRACED THE PROBLEM TO THE POSITION OF MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR. IF MY FOOT WAS IN JUST THE RIGHT POSITION -- LOW TO MIDWAY ON THE PEDAL, WITH MY HEEL CLOSEST TO THE FLOOR -- I HAD COMPLETE CONTROL. BUT IF I MISCALCULATED AND PLACED MY FOOT EVER SO SLIGHTLY HIGHER ON THE PEDAL, THE CAR WOULD LURCH FORWARD EVEN WHEN I APPLIED THE SAME PRESSURE. I COULD REGAIN CONTROL ONLY BY QUICKLY TAKING MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND/OR HITTING THE BRAKES. THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP THAT MAINTAINS MY CAR REPEATEDLY SAID I SHOULD NOT WORRY -- THAT AS THE CAR'S COMPUTER GOT USED TO MY DRIVING HABITS, IT WOULD EVENTUALLY ADJUST THE ACTION OF THE ACCELERATOR TO MY TOUCH. BUT NOTHING CHANGED. NOW I TAKE EXTRA CARE TO TRY AND GET MY FOOT IN JUST THE RIGHT SPOT BEFORE ACCELERATING FROM A STANDING START. SOMETIMES I AM SUCCESSFUL, OTHER TIMES NOT. IN ANTICIPATION OF TROUBLE, I MAKE IT A POINT TO LEAVE PLENTY OF EXTRA SPACE BETWEEN ME AND THE CAR AHEAD OF ME, SO I WON'T REAR END IT IF THE ACCELERATOR SENDS ME LURCHING FORWARD. I HAVE BECOME RESIGNED TO THE PROBLEM, BECAUSE I AM A TOYOTA FAN AND LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE ABOUT THE CAR. I NEVER THOUGHT TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS UNTIL A NEW YORK TIMES STORY INDICATED THAT OTHER TOYOTA OWNERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, AND (I BELIEVE) HAD NOTIFIED YOUR AGENCY. 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA - POWER STEERING UNIT LEAKS BAD RACK-N-PINION UNIT AFTER ONE YEAR OF DRIVING AND 37K MILES. TOYOTA WOULD NOT HONOR REPAIRS SINCE I WAS OVER WARRANTY BY 1K - EVEN THOUGH IT WAS NOTICED ONE MONTH PRIOR AND BEFORE THE 36K MARK. THEY SAID SINCE I DIDN'T SERVICE IT AT TOYOTA THEY WOULD NOT ADDRESS IT *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED.THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 31000. A RUN AWAY FULL THROTTLE ENGINE IN A 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA (PURCHASED IN FALL OF 2007). I ACCIDENTALLY BACKED UP INTO A TREE AT 2 TO 3 MPH. THE REAR BUMPER OF THE CAR HIT THE TREE SQUARELY CAUSING NO VISIBLE DAMAGE TO CAR. THE ENGINE OF THE CAR DID NOT DIE OUT AFTER THE IMPACT. UPON SHIFTING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE -- THE CAR LURCHED FULL SPEED FORWARD (WITH FULL ACCELERATION) DESPITE FULL APPLICATION OF THE FOOT BRAKE AND NO APPLICATION OF THE ACCELERATOR. I QUICKLY PLACED THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE TO AVOID RUNNING INTO PEDESTRIANS, BUILDING AND TREES. AFTER INSPECTING THE CAR FOR DAMAGE AND ANY CAREFULLY PLACING THE CAR IN PARK WITH PARKING BRAKE AND FOOT BRAKE ENGAGE I RESTARTED THE ENGINE. THE CAR HAS RUN NORMALLY SINCE THIS INCIDENT WHICH TOOK PLACE JULY OF 2008. *TR
WHEN BRAKING AND ALMOST AT A FULL STOP THE ENGINE RPM'S REV UP AND VEHICLE LUNGES FORWARD. AT THOSE INSTANCES, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT STOP EVEN WHEN I STAND ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. *TR
RADIO IS SWITCHING STATIONS AND RANDOMLY JUMPING STATIONS WILL NOT STOP AND HAS NOT YET BEEN REPLACED. *TR
MY SON HAS A 2007 COROLLA. ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO, HE NOTICED HIS AIR CONDITIONING WAS NOT COOLING. HE TOO IT TO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP TO BE FIXED SINCE HE ONLY HAS 17,000 MILES ON THE CAR. THEY REFUSED TO FIX THE CONDENSER. THEY ARE TRYING TO SAY IT IS A ROAD HAZARD AND HIS FAULT. TOYOTA HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THE 2005 AND 2006 COROLLA. NOW IT HAS HAPPENED WITH THE 2007. THEY WANT TO CHARGE HIM $800.00. THE CAR IS UNDER WARRANTY AND THERE IS NO REASON FOR SOMETHING TO DAMAGE THE CONDENSER. IF THE CONDENSER WAS PROTECTED, THIS COULD NOT HAPPEN. WE HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA AND THEY REFUSE TO WORK WITH US. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, HE HEARD A WINDING SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE TIRES; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. APPROXIMATELY FOUR WEEKS LATER WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A WINDING SOUND. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE WHEELS CAUSED THE INNER WALLS OF THE TIRES TO DISINTEGRATE. IN ADDITION, THEY STATED THAT THE FAILURE WOULD BE CONTINUOUS BECAUSE THE TIRES AND WHEELS WERE AFTERMARKET AND THEY REFUSED TO REPAIR AS PART OF THE WARRANTY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 250 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 3,828.
MY SON WAS INVOLVED IN A HEAD-ON COLLISION WHERE THE FRONT AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. HE WAS DRIVING A 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA LE. ATTEMPTS TO CONTACT TOYOTA HAVE BEEN ANSWERED WITH CONDESCENSION. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10-15 MPH IN HER DRIVEWAY THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO MAKE A CLANKING NOISE. SHE TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF, OBSERVED THE NOISE, AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. AS SHE ENGAGED THE BRAKES, THEY DID NOT RESPONDED AS NORMAL.
