2010 PRIUS ACCELERATION SURGE - WHEN I DRIVE OVER A SEWER COVER OR ANY SIMILAR INDENTATIONS IN THE ROADWAY THE VEHICLE SURGES FORWARD IN AN AGGRESSIVE MANNER. I NEED TO APPLY THE BRAKES OR STEER TO AVOID ANY OBJECT IN THE PATH OF THE VEHICLE. IT IS VERY UNSETTLING AND DANGEROUS SINCE THE SURGE IS STRONG AND UNPREDICTABLE. *TR
VEHICLE SURGES FORWARD WHEN BRAKING OVER ROAD SURFACE THAT IS NOT SMOOTH. SYMPTOM MAKES SAFELY JUDGING STOPPING DISTANCE VERY DIFFICULT, AND IN OUR OPINION, INCREASES LIKELIHOOD OF AN ACCIDENT. TOYOTA DEALER CLAIMED THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE ISSUE AND THAT VEHICLE'S COMPUTER DID NOT REPORT/RECORD ANY PROBLEMS. WE CAN REPLICATE ISSUE OVER SAME BUMP EVERYDAY. *TR
OUR 2010 PRIUS HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES WHEN GOING OVER BUMPY ROADS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT HAS A 2010 PRIUS. THE VEHICLE IS HAVING A BRAKE FAILURE WHEN GOING OVER BUMP OR UNEVEN PAVEMENT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THIS HAPPENS REGARDLESS OF WEATHER CONDITIONS. THE VEHICLE ALMOST HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE WHEN GOING AROUND A CURVE AND HIT A BUMP. THE VEHICLE THEN SEEM TO START TO SLIDE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5000. THE VEHICLE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 15858.
I OWN A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHEN I APPLY THE BRAKES, THE CAR JERKS FORWARD BEFORE STOPPING. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SOFTWARE PROBLEM IN THE ABS SYSTEM AND WANT THE NHTSA TO DEMAND THAT TOYOTA FIX THE 2010 PRIUS BRAKES. THE PROBLEM WITH THE JERKING BRAKES HAPPENS FREQUENTLY, AND HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 40 TIMES OVER THE PAST 4 MONTHS. *TR
BEFORE THE NEWS ABOUT THE 2010 PRIUS BRAKE PROBLEM BECAME NATIONAL, I HAD EXPERIENCED SEVERAL INSTANCES WITH MY 2010 PRIUS (PURCHASED NOV., 2009) DURING WHICH I WOULD BRAKE AT LOW SPEED OVER BUMPS OR ROUGH ROADS AND EXPERIENCE A SLIDING OR BRAKES-NOT-WORKING SENSATION. THIS CONTINUES TO HAPPEN WITH THIS CAR. I HAVE ONLY EXPERIENCED IT AT VERY LOW SPEEDS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE CONTACT DROVE APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD OR A POTHOLE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1500. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 4000.
OCCASIONALLY WHEN BACKING OUT OF THE GARAGE THE CAR LURCHES BACKWARD, AND THEN SLIGHTLY DEPRESSING THE BRAKES CAUSES THE CAR TO IMMEDIATELY STOP. RELEASING THE BRAKES CAUSES THE CAR TO AGAIN LURCH BACKWARDS AND THEN SLIGHTLY PRESSING ON THE BRAKES AGAIN CAUSES THE CAR TO IMMEDIATELY STOP. IT'S A WHIPLASH TYPE MOVEMENT. IT OCCURS SPORADICALLY. MY SOLUTION HAS BEEN TO SHUT THE CAR OFF AND START OVER (BASICALLY, "REBOOTING" THE CAR). I PURCHASED THE CAR AT THE END OF OCTOBER 2009. *TR
I HAVE A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS, V MODEL, DELIVERED IN OCTOBER 2009. THE INCIDENT IS AFTER PARKING THE CAR FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES, THEN RESTARTING, AND PUTTING THE CAR IN REVERSE... UPON BACKING OUT THE CAR WILL SURGE AND I HAVE TO PRESS THE BRAKE HARD TO STOP THE CAR, AT WHICH TIME THE CAR ATTEMPTS TO SPEED UP AND I HAVE TO MAINTAIN HARD PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE TO STOP THE CAR. MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS SEEMS TO HAVE BRIEF PERIODS OF ACCELERATION WHEN I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND AM JUST PUTTING IT ON THE BRAKE. I HAVE TO BRAKE HARD TO KEEP IT FROM LURCHING FORWARD. *TR
I WAS GOING DOWN A FAIRLY STEEP HILL, APPLYING MY BRAKES EVENLY AS I APPROACHED A STOP LIGHT. THERE WERE NO CARS IN FRONT OF ME, AND THE ROAD WAS DRY. SUDDENLY, I THOUGHT THAT I HAD BEEN STRUCK FROM BEHIND BECAUSE MY CAR LURCHED FORWARD (AS THOUGH I HAD BEEN STRUCK). MY 2010 PRIUS WAS ONLY ABOUT TWO MONTHS OLD AT THIS POINT. THE BRAKES RE-ENGAGED AFTER A SECOND OR TWO, BUT I WAS AFRAID THAT I WOULD HAVE HIT SOMEONE IF I HADN'T BEEN ALONE ON THE ROAD. THE SAME THING HAPPENED WHEN GOING DOWN ANOTHER STEEP ROAD ABOUT THREE WEEKS LATER. AGAIN, THERE WAS NO PROPERTY DAMAGE AND NO ONE WAS HURT. BUT I WAS STARTLED. I DO NOT KNOW IF THE ROAD WAS UNEVEN OR IF THERE WERE POTHOLES. I HAVE NOT REPORTED THESE INCIDENTS TO THE DEALER, THE CAR COMPANY OR THE POLICE BECAUSE (ALTHOUGH THEY SCARED ME), I DID NOT THINK MUCH ABOUT THEM. NOW THAT I KNOW THAT OTHERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS, I HAVE BECOME FAIRLY WORRIED. *JB
I COULDN'T STOP MY 2010 PRIUS AT A STOP. THE BRAKES WOULDN'T STOP THE VEHICLE.*TR
2010 TOYOTA PRIUS- CAR TENDS TO ACCELERATE AFTER HITTING SOME POTHOLES OR BUMPS IN THE ROAD WHEN THE BRAKE IS DEPRESSED. THE FIRST COUPLE OF TIMES, I CAME VERY CLOSE TO REAR-ENDING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME BECAUSE THE BUMP OR POTHOLE WAS IN THE ROAD AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND I WAS ATTEMPTING TO STOP. I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO REPEAT INCIDENT BUT NOT ALL OF THE TIME (MAY DEPEND ON HOW HARD THE BRAKE IS DEPRESSED OR HOW FAST THE CAR IS GOING AT THE TIME). I NOTICED THIS SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING AND RECEIVING THE CAR ON 24 OCT. 2009. MENTIONED TO TOYOTA SERVICE STAFF AT A NEW CAR ORIENTATION PROGRAM, BUT WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAD NOT HEARD OF THIS ISSUE... AND PERHAPS THE BUMPS IN THE ROAD WERE CAUSING ME TO NOT APPLY EVEN PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE. I HAVE ADJUSTED MY DRIVING ROUTE AS TO NOT TO GO OVER THE POTHOLE WHICH CAUSES THE MOST PROBLEMS (OR TRY TO BE VIGILANT ABOUT SITUATIONS WHICH MAY CAUSE LURCHING) BUT WAS CONCERNED WHEN I SAW AN ARTICLE REPORTING THAT OTHER PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING SIMILAR ISSUES (HTTP://WWW.FREEP.COM/ARTICLE/20100203/BUSINESS01/100203028/1318/2010-PRIUS-OWNERS-COMPLAIN-OF-FAULTY-BRAKES-LURCHING-OVER-BUMPS). *TR
WHEN BRAKING AND HITTING A BUMP AT THE SAME TIME THERE IS A LOSS OF BRAKING POWER. THE VEHICLE LUNGES FORWARD AS IF THE BRAKES HAVE STOPPED WORKING MOMENTARILY. THIS CAUSED ME TO HAVE TO USE ADDITIONAL CRASH AVOIDANCE MANEUVERS, IN ANOTHER CIRCUMSTANCE COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. IT FEELS AS IF A PORTION OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM SHUTS OFF AFTER HITTING THE BUMP. *TR
I BOUGHT A 2010 PRIUS V ON 10-31-09. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, I HAVE EXPERIENCED THE TEMPORARY LOSS OF BRAKING NOW MAKING NEWS. I'VE NOTICED IT AT LEAST A HALF DOZEN TIMES ON SNOWY OR ICY ROADS. MISTAKENLY ATTRIBUTING THE ZERO SLOWING TO BEING ON BLACK ICE, I PUMPED THE BRAKES. THE BRAKES IMMEDIATELY TOOK EFFECT AND SLOWED THE CAR. THE IMMEDIATE RESPONSE UPON PUMPING THE BRAKES, PLUS THE NUMBER OF TIMES THIS HAS HAPPENED IN JUST THE HANDFUL OF TIMES I'VE DRIVEN ON SLICK ROADS, TELLS ME IT WASN'T BLACK ICE AT ALL. ON FIVE SEPARATE OCCASIONS, WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKE TO STOP AT AN INTERSECTION THE CAR WOULD INITIALLY BEGIN TO SLOW DOWN AND THEN, WHILE THE BRAKE IS STILL BEING APPLIED FEEL LIKE IT SKIPPED OR ACCELERATED FOR ANOTHER 10-15 FEET BEFORE STOPPING. THE TERM SCARY COULD BE APPLIED TO THE SUDDEN FEELING OF HAVING THE CAR ACCELERATE WHEN THE BRAKES ARE BEING APPLIED. *TR
MY 2010 PRIUS ACCELERATES OVER A BUMPY SURFACE OR POTHOLE, IT SURGES FORWARD, WHEN I BRAKE OVER THESE SURFACES. *JB
WHILE DRIVING WITH CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED AND A SITUATION OCCURS THAT REQUIRES BRAKING; NORMAL BRAKE PEDAL PRESSURE DOES NOTHING. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 2 MPH, THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED AND THEY DID NOT ENGAGE. THE CONTACT CALLED TOYOTA AND WAS ADVISED TO WAIT FOR A LETTER. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND COULD NOT GET THROUGH. THE CURRENT MILES WERE 3603. THE FAILURE MILES WERE 1689.
AS MANY PREVIOUS OWNERS DESCRIBED, I AM ALSO HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES AT LOW SPEED SINCE THE BEGINNING OF OWNING THIS VEHICLE (OCTOBER 2009). DEALER COULDN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. ALTHOUGH THE CAR WENT THROUGH THE RECALL FOR THE BREAK SYSTEM IS STILL HAVING THE SAME ISSUE EVER SINCE. THE OTHER ISSUE WITH THE BRAKES HAPPENS AFTER RAIN. IT MAKES A SCREECHING NOISE WITHOUT PERFORMANCE BEING EFFECTED. IT GOES AWAY USUALLY WITHIN A HALF AN HOUR. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING THING TOO FOR FEW YEARS BY NOW. THE OTHER ISSUE I HAD AS WELL AS OTHERS IS DIMMING OF LIGHTS THAT HAS BEEN OCCURRING SINCE LAST YEAR. WE NEEDED TO SWITCH THE LIGHTBULBS MORE FREQUENTLY THAN SEEMS NORMAL. DIDN'T EVEN THINK IT WAS OUT OF THE ORDINARY UNTIL I READ THE COMMENTS HERE ABOUT IT. THE OTHER PROBLEM I STARTED TO HAVE IS WITH A STEREO DISPLAY SYSTEM AND THE VOICE ACTIVATION FOR THE BLUETOOTH. THE DISPLAY HAD SOME WEIRD LINES ON IT AFTER A VERY COLD OR A VERY HOT DAY (RADIO WAS WORKING FINE JUST THE DISPLAY WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY). EVENTUALLY GOES BACK TO NORMAL BUT THIS STARTED HAPPENING THE LAST YEAR OR SO. THE SAME TIME ALSO HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE VOICE ACTIVATION UNIT WHICH TURNED ON UNEXPECTEDLY AND TURNED BACK ON IN 10 SECONDS AFTER EACH TIME I TURNED IT OFF. THIS WAS HAPPENING FOR A GOOD 30 MIN AT THAT TIME. THIS ONLY OCCURRED TWICE BUT BOTH TIMES WAS AFTER A HOT DAY LAST SUMMER. THIS YEAR SO FAR HAVEN'T HAPPENED YET.

THIS DOES 2 THINGS, HELPS REGENERATE THE HYBRID BATTERY AND ASSISTS IN BRAKING THE VEHICLE, AND THE NORMAL BRAKES ALSO APPLY TO ASSIST IN BRAKING. I DID HAVE ANOTHER PRIUS OWNER ASK ABOUT THIS ALSO, I HAD HIM COME OUT AND DROVE WITH HIM AND COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE STATED CONDITION. I THINK HE WAS PUSHING TO FAST AND HARD ON THE BRAKE PEDAL CAUSING THE LURCH. WHEN I DROVE HIS VEHICLE I DID TELL HIM I WAS TRYING TO BE VERY CONSCIOUS OF HOW MUCH PRESSURE I WAS APPLYING TO THE PEDAL. I DID NOTICE THE BRAKES ARE VERY RESPONSIVE TO PEDAL PRESSURE. ON ROUGH ROADS AND TERRAIN, THE 2010 PRIUS THAT I RECENTLY BOUGHT CONSISTENTLY DISPLAYS DEFECTIVE BEHAVIOR. WHEN I AM TRYING TO BRAKE, AND DURING BRAKING HIT A BUMP (ALWAYS DURING A SLOW BRAKE), THE CAR ACTUALLY SPEEDS UP. THIS HAS RESULTED IN MY CHANGING MY DRIVING HABITS TO BE FURTHER AWAY FROM CARS IN FRONT OF ME, ESPECIALLY ON BUMPY ROADS. BRAKES ON 2010 PRIUS SOMETIMES ARE "JERKY". THE PEDAL FEELS DIFFERENT AND I REQUIRE LESS OR MORE PRESSURE TO GET THE CAR TO BRAKE. OCCASIONALLY WHEN I PRESS THE BRAKE THE CAR JERKS TO A STOP INSTEAD OF A SLOW, CONTROLLED STOP. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR OVER 20 YEARS & THE FEELING IS SIMILAR TO HOW I FELT IN LEARNING TO DRIVE WHEN I DIDN'T KNOW HOW MUCH PRESSURE TO USE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. I'VE ADAPTED MY DRIVING, BUT ONLY AFTER I'D ENDED UP IN THE MIDDLE OF A COUPLE OF INTERSECTIONS BECAUSE THE CAR SHOT FORWARD WHILE I WAS OSTENSIBLY BRAKING. 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS CRUISE CONTROL CAUSED UNINTENDED ACCELERATION WHEN RE-ENGAGED. AFTER DISENGAGING CRUISE CONTROL SET TO 65 AND COASTING AT 50 FOR A WHILE WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS RE-ENGAGED THE VEHICLE RESUMED IN EXCESS OF 70 MPH BEFORE I DISABLED CRUISE CONTROL. DATE OF INCIDENT IS APPROXIMATE. I DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF THE FAILURE AT THE TIME OTHER THAN THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS BEHAVING ODDLY (I HAVE AVOIDED CRUISE CONTROL ON THIS CAR SINCE). IN LIGHT OF THE CURRENT INVESTIGATION I THOUGHT I WOULD SUBMIT A REPORT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH OVER RAILROAD TRACKS, WITH HER FOOT OFF OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, SHE NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY BEGAN TO ACCELERATE WITHOUT DRIVER INTENT. SHE IMMEDIATELY DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE MOMENTARILY DECREASED IN SPEED, HOWEVER THE VEHICLE SOON BEGAN TO ACCELERATE AGAIN. SHE THEN PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. SHE WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND WITHIN A FEW MINUTES, RESTARTED THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO FUNCTION NORMAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS TEST DRIVEN. THE DEALER FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE AND COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE HAD EXPERIENCED THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION OVER 12 TIMES. THERE WERE NO REPAIRS MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 4,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 8,352.
2010 PRIUS ACCELERATES WHILE BRAKING AND SURGES IN ACCELERATION FROM A STOP WHILE ACCELERATING SLOWLY. MANY BUT NOT ALL OCCASIONS WERE WHILE GOING OVER BUMPS AND/OR WET ROAD. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE OWNING THE CAR. TOYOTA CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM IN THE TESTING AND DENIES THAT IT IS REAL. IT HAS BEEN BROUGHT INTO TOYOTA FOR REPAIRS BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. THE CAR IS NOW PARKED AND WE WILL NOT DRIVE IT AS IT IS NOT SAFE. WE FILED A LEMON LAW CLAIM (CA) AND TOYOTA HAS DENIED THE CLAIM WITH A FORM TYPE LETTER. *TR
SINCE PURCHASE IN OCTOBER 2009, I HAVE EXPERIENCED OCCASIONAL PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES ON MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. SPORADICALLY, WHEN I APPLY THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN GOING DOWN A SLIGHT INCLINE OR STOPPING AT LIGHTS OR INTERSECTION, I FEEL A MOMENTARY LAG BEFORE THE BRAKES ACTUALLY FUNCTION. THE LAG IS NOTICEABLE AND SIMILAR TO FEELING AIRBORNE OR SLIPPING CAUSING ME TO FRANTICALLY PUSH DOWN HARDER ON THE BRAKE PEDAL THAN USUAL. THIS HAS RECURRED PERHAPS 10 DIFFERENT TIMES I ALSO HAD ONE INCIDENT WHEN THE BRAKE SEEMED TO LOCK WHEN THE GEAR WAS IN REVERSE AND I WAS BEGINNING TO BACK OUT OF A PARKING SPACE. I OWN A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS II. I HAVE EXPERIENCED A FEELING THAT, WHILE BRAKING HITTING A BUMP OR POTHOLE, THE BRAKES COMPLETELY RELEASE FOR ABOUT 1 SECOND. THIS CAN BE QUITE ALARMING IF ANOTHER VEHICLE IS IN FRONT OF YOU OR WORSE, PEDESTRIANS ARE CROSSING IN YOUR PATH. I BOUGHT A 2010 PRIUS IN OCTOBER 2009. I BROUGHT THE PRIUS BACK TO THE DEALER, STEVENSON TOYOTA, FOR A PROBLEM THAT WOULD OCCUR WHEN THE VEHICLE BRAKE WAS COMPLETELY DEPRESSED AND THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT WOULD COME ON. I ALSO MENTIONED THAT WHEN I WOULD HIT A BUMP OR DRIVE ON ICE, IT DID NOT SEEM THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD STOP PROPERLY AND THAT WHEN HITTING A BUMP, THE VEHICLE WOULD SEEM TO "LURCH FORWARD". THE DEALER SAID THIS WAS A SAFETY ASPECT OF THE VEHICLE AND WAS NORMAL OPERATION. A FEW WEEKS LATER, I CALLED THE DEALER AGAIN TO REITERATE MY CONCERNS ABOUT THE BRAKING PROBLEM AND THE LURCHING FORWARD WHEN HITTING A BUMP, THEY AGAIN REPEATED THAT IT WAS A SAFETY MEASURE NEW ON THE 2010 PRIUS MODELS. NOW THAT THE RECALL IS OUT, I AM SKEPTICAL ON THE VALIDITY OF THEIR STATEMENTS SAYING THAT IT WAS A NEW 2010 SAFETY FEATURE. MY WIFE WHO ALSO DRIVES THE VEHICLE DOES NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING IN THE SNOW BECAUSE OF THE FEEL OF THE BRAKES WHEN ATTEMPTING TO STOP. I DRIVE A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS AND HAVE EXPERIENCED BRAKING PROBLEMS WHILE BRAKING AND GOING OVER BUMPS/ROUGH PAVEMENT. I HAVE 6000 MILES ON MY CAR AND HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN ABOUT 5 TIMES. DURING ONE OCCASION, WHILE SLOWING FOR STOPPED TRAFFIC, I DROVE OVER A BUMP, AND I FELT THE BREAK PEDAL VIBRATE LIKE THE ANTILOCK BRAKES WERE BEING ACTIVATED, THEN A QUICK "RELEASE SENSATION", DURING WHICH I HAD NO BRAKES, LIKE I HIT A PATCH OF ICE. I WAS JUST ABLE TO AVOID HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME BY SWERVING INTO AN OPEN DRIVE WAY. I WAS ALSO WITH MY WIFE AS A PASSENGER IN THIS CAR AND SHE HAD A SIMILAR EVENT WHILE BRAKING AND HITTING A BUMP IN THE ROAD. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTIBLE. *TR
MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS LURCHES FORWARD WHEN BRAKING WHEN I HIT AN UNEVEN SURFACE, LIKE A POTHOLE, INDENT/CREVICE IN ROAD, OR OTHER TYPE OF UNEVEN SURFACE. THERE IS A LOSS OF BRAKING FOR APPROXIMATELY 1 SECOND AND YOU INSTINCTIVELY HIT THE BRAKE AGAIN TO REGAIN BRAKING. IT IS AS IF THE CAR ACCELERATES FOR A SPLIT SECOND AND YOU LOSE CONTROL BEFORE YOU HIT THE BRAKE PEDAL AGAIN. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN WHEN I AM BRAKING AT A SLOWER SPEED AND COMING TO A STOP. THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES (APPROXIMATELY 12) SINCE I PURCHASED AND RECEIVED MY PRIUS IN SEPTEMBER 2009. NO ACCIDENTS HAVE OCCURRED THUS FAR BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM., BUT I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND MY/OTHERS SAFETY. I REPORTED THIS PROBLEM TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED MY CAR FROM IN OCTOBER 2009. THEY PERFORMED A HEALTH CHECK ON THE CAR TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING WAS OPERATING FINE AND REPORTED THAT IT WAS, AND TOLD ME TO BRING THE CAR BACK IN IF THE PROBLEM CONTINUED. I WENT INTO THE DEALERSHIP TO TALK TO SOMEONE ON 1/13/10 TO AGAIN DISCUSS THE PROBLEM. 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS BRAKING ISSUE...I HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE A NUMBER OF TIMES. I WILL BE DRIVING AND SEE A POTHOLE/BUMP COMING UP. I SLOW DOWN AND BRAKE BUT ONCE THE CAR GOES OVER THE POTHOLE/BUMP THE BRAKES DO NOT WORK- INSTEAD THE CAR ACCELERATES FORWARD WITH A LUNGING/JERKY FEELING. IT IS NOT RIGHT. I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE DEALER ON 10.27.09. THEY COULD NOT "DUPLICATE" THIS PROBLEM AND COULD NOT FIX IT. I CALLED TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS AND THEY OPENED A CASE . THEY SAID I SHOULD TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND TO SEE IF THEY COULD DUPLICATE IT. CASE # 091139820. THERE IS A BIG PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES- THE CAR SHOULD SLOW DOWN/STOP AND NOT SPEED UP. ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK I HAD THE SUNROOF OPENED AND A ROCK HIT THE DEFLECTOR (A PIECE OF TEMPERED GLASS) AND SHATTERED IT. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND IT WAS REPLACED AT A COST OF $907.66. MY CONCERN IS THAT THIS DEFLECTOR AND SUNROOF ARE UNSAFE...BEING ONLY TEMPERED GLASS AND NOT SAFETY GLASS. THE ENTIRE ROOF IS MADE OF THIS GLASS. I HAD ASSUMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE. I FEAR THAT ANY FALLING OBJECT (LIKE A STONE OR HAIL) POSES A DANGER TO MY SAFETY. *TR
