TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA RAV4. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH THE FWD, ENGINE AND STABILITY CONTROL WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED CONTINUOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE OXYGEN SENSOR WAS REPLACED. ON A SEPARATE OCCASION WHILE DRIVING IN REVERSE THE VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY ACCELERATED AND THE RPMS INCREASED. THE GEAR LEVER WAS SHIFTED INTO PARK AND THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER A RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 11V113000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE PROBLEM EXISTED BEFORE THE RECALL AND PERSISTED AFTER THE RECALL REMEDY REPAIR WAS PERFORMED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FIVE TIMES DUE TO THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND VIN WERE UNAVAILABLE.
ALL 2007 RAV4 V6 ENGINES LIKE MINE PURCHASED NEW HAVE A WHISTLING/WHINING NOISE AT IDLE, ESPECIALLY WHEN COLD OUT DUE TO MORE AIR INTAKE NEEDED, FROM THE BRAKES VACUUM BOOSTER LINES VERY NOTICEABLE WHEN AT IDLE AT INITIAL COLD STARTUP WHEN APPLYING BRAKES OFF AND ON. I HAVE EVEN HEARD THIS SAME LOUD WHISTLING NOISE COMING FROM IN FRONT OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP SIGN IN VERY COLD (BELOW 32 DEGREES) WEATHER WHICH IS ALL DUE TO THE VACUUM LINES/CHECK VALVE IN THE BRAKES VACUUM SYSTEM. DEALER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND HAVE NO RESOLUTION EXCEPT TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA REP. TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE. ALL NEW 07 RAV4 V6 OWNERS NEED TO COMPLAIN TO THEIR DEALERS ABOUT THIS ISSUE FOR THEY WILL NOT REPAIR THIS ANNOYING LOUD WHISTLING NOISE IN THE BRAKES VACUUM BOOSTER LINES WITHOUT 100'S OF COMPLAINTS. ALSO, I HAVE READ SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE CRUISE CONTROL FLOORING THE ENGINE UP EVEN A SLIGHT HILL AND SHIFTING IN AND OUT OF GEARS REPEATEDLY LIKE IT DOES NOT KNOW WHAT GEAR THE ENGINE SHOULD BE IN. EVEN WITH MY 268 HP V6, IT WILL DO THIS AND IS NOT ONLY ANNOYING, BUT IS A DISTRACTION AND POSSIBLE SAFETY ISSUE IN SLIPPERY WINTER DRIVING SINCE THE CRUISE CONTROL FLOORS THE ENGINE UP A HILL AND CAN CAUSE SWERVING ON ICY ROADS. SPEAK UP CONSUMERS, AND LET TOYOTA KNOW THEY HAVE ISSUES WHICH I AM 100% CORRECT ON! *TR

COMPLAINT:SECOND COMPLAINT I PURCHASED MY TOYOTA RAV 4 2007 IN OCTOBER OF 2007. A FEW MONTHS AFTER I HAD THE CAR I STARTED NOTICING THAT THE CAR, FOR NO REASON WOULD HESITATE, LEAVING ME AT TIMES IN THE MIDDLE OF CROSSINGS AN INTERSECTIONS WITH NO POWER. AFTER OTHERS BEGAN MAKING COMMENTS THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG I BROUGHT IT INTO LEITH TOYOTA. THE FIRST TIME WAS APRIL 24TH 2008. I EXPLAINED TO THE SERVICE ADVISOR I WAS HAVING INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR. I TOLD HIM I WOULD START ACROSS AN INTERSECTION (4 LANES) AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR HESITATED, THERE WAS NO POWER. I WOULD PRESS THE GAS PEDAL TO THE FLOOR AND APPROXIMATELY 10-15 SECONDS LATER THE CAR WOULD LUNGE FORWARD. I TOLD THEM IT CONCERNED AND SCARED ME. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS. APRIL 28TH 2008 I RETURNED AGAIN TO THE DEALERSHIP ADVISING THEM THERE WAS A PROBLEM, I WAS AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR AND WANTED IT FIXED. I AGAIN WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOT ANY PROBLEM WITH THE CAR. THIS TIME I REFUSED TO LEAVE UNTIL THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED. THEY FINALLY BROUGHT THE CAR BACK IN AND TOLD ME THE MODELS HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE ECM SYSTEM. I WAS TOLD THEY REFLASHED THE ECM SYSTEM WITH AN UPDATE SENT BY CORPORATE AND THINGS SHOULD BE FINE. YESTERDAY I RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP. I TOLD THEM THE CAR WAS OK FOR A NUMBER OF MONTHS BUT AGAIN THIS WEEK I WAS ALMOST IN AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE THE CAR HAD STARTED TO HESITATE AGAIN, AND I AM LEFT IN THE INTERSECTION WITHOUT POWER AND ON-COMING TRAFFIC. THEY TOOK THE CAR OUT AND OF COURSE THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT SO THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND ANYTHING ABNORMAL. THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULD CHECK TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY ADDITIONAL COMPUTER UPDATES FOR THE PROBLEM. THE CAR ALSO LOOSES POWER ON HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH, SHUTS DOWN AFTER A WHILE. THEY ADVISED ME THERE WERE NO ADDITIONAL UPDATES. I TOLD THEM THE PROBLEM IS PUTTING ME IN DANGER OF HAVING AN ACCIDENT. THEY TOLD ME TOYOTA DOES NOT FEEL THIS IS A PROBLEM. *TR UPDATED IVOQ 07/15/10.*JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA RAV4. THE DRIVER STATED THAT SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED HE HAS HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE BLUE-TOOTH IN THE VEHICLE. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES AND THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THEY REPAIRED THE BLUETOOTH MALFUNCTION; HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM CONTINUED TO OCCUR. TOYOTA ALSO TOLD HIM THAT IT WAS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. THE DRIVER IS UNABLE TO MAKE A PHONE CALL WHILE DRIVING WITH THE BLUETOOTH WHICH IS A SAFETY RISK. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA RAV4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE REVERSING FROM A RESIDENTIAL DRIVEWAY AND TURNING TO THE RIGHT, THERE WAS A LOUD SOUND. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,900 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 21,400. UPDATED 04/30/13*LJ
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA RAV4. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL IN EITHER DIRECTION, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL CLUCKING NOISE WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 47,851.
LARGE STEERING NOISE WHEN CAR IS TURNED AT CERTAIN SPEEDS, WHICH IS WELL CHARACTERIZED BY OTHER SON MY 2007 RAV4. HESITATION WHEN TRYING TO PRESS GAS PEDAL USUALLY FROM A STOP. THIS COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT WHEN I BELIEVE I HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO GET OUT ON MAIN HIGHWAY FROM SIDE STREET AND THE SUV WON'T GO. TOOK TO DEALER, WHO SAID NORMAL. CRUISE DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY ON INCLINES. IT WILL JERK BACK AND FORTH UNTIL CRUISE TURNED OFF. MECHANIC RODE WITH ME AND SAID THIS SHD NOT BE HAPPENING, BUT TOYOTA HAS NO FIX FOR IT AT PRESENT; THEY DO NOT KNOW WHEN. CALLED TOYOTA CALL CENTER. THEY SAID THIS VEHICLE NOT MEANT TO USE CRUISE ON INCLINES(SO WHY PUT IT ON THE VEHICLE-PUT ON ON LEVEL ROAD, TAKE OFF WHEN SEE HILL APPROACHING-WHAT A JOKE). NEVER HAD A VEHICLE IN MY LIFE WHERE THE CRUISE WAS NOT MEANT TO BE USED AT ALL POINTS OF DRIVING. TOLD BY DEALERSHIP TO WAIT. THIS VEHICLE IS NEW AND I DO NOT WANT TO WAIT.
WHEN DRIVING THERE IS A DELAYED THROTTLE RESPONSE WHICH HAS LED TO A SUDDEN ACCELERATION WHEN NOT EXPECTING IT. THIS HAPPENED ON DIFFERENT OCCASIONS INTERMITTENTLY ALMOST LEADING TO AN ACCIDENT. I CALLED MY TOYOTA DEALER ON AUGUST 22/07, SEPT 2007 AND THEN CALLED TOYOTA ON NOVEMBER 1, 2007. I WAS ADVISED THAT THIS SUDDEN DELAYED ACCELERATION WAS NORMAL FOR TOYOTA AS IT WAS BECAUSE THE COMPUTER SYSTEM SENDS A DELAYED MESSAGE AND I HAD TO ADJUST MY DRIVING TO ACCOMMODATE IT. IT HAS NOT HAPPENED NEARLY AS OFTEN AS THE FIRST FEW MONTHS BUT DOES OCCASIONALLY. IT IS SUDDEN AND FRIGHTENING WHEN IT HAPPENS. *TR
I OWN A 2007 TOYOTA RAV4 LIMITED 4WD V6 AND THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT SHIFT CORRECTLY AT LOW SPEEDS. A TYPICAL EXAMPLE OF THE PROBLEM IS SEEN AFTER SLOWING DOWN TO MAKE A TURN ONTO ANOTHER STREET. THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT SHIFT OUT OF OVERDRIVE, SO WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE, THE ENGINE SPEED INCREASES AND THE VEHICLE DOES NOT MOVE. THE COMPUTER THEN REALIZES THAT THE CAR IS TRYING TO ACCELERATE AND "SLAMS" INTO GEAR. THIS CONDITION ALSO OCCURS IN TRAFFIC AND MAKING LANE CHANGES IS VERY DANGEROUS AT LOW SPEEDS. I HAVE COMPLAINED TO TOYOTA'S TECHNICAL SERVICE HOTLINE AND HAD THE LEAD SERVICE TECHNICIAN AT MY LOCAL DEALER RIDE WITH ME TO SEE THE PROBLEM I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE CAR IS "WITHIN NORMAL OPERATING PARAMETERS", BUT AFTER LOOKING AT SEVERAL WEB SITES, I HAVE SEEN THAT THIS A WORLDWIDE ISSUE WITH EVERY CAMRY, SIENNA, AVALON, RAV4 AND TUNDRA BUILT IN THE PAST SEVERAL MODEL YEARS. THE LOCAL SERVICE TECH TOLD ME THAT IN HIS 28 YEARS OF REPAIRING TOYOTA VEHICLES, HE HAS NEVER SEEN PROBLEMS LIKE THIS AND THE CARS ARE BEING DESIGNED IN SUCH A WAY THAT A MECHANIC CANNOT FIX THE CAR. I COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS PROBLEM WITHIN THE FIRST 5000 MILES OF OWNERSHIP, AND AFTER 18 MONTHS, THERE STILL ISN'T A FIX OR ADMISSION FROM TOYOTA THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED WITH THE RAV4, ALTHOUGH THEY HAVE RELEASED TCM UPDATES FOR SOME CAMRY AND AVALON VEHICLES TO CORRECT THIS VERY ISSUE. *TR
TRANSMISSION HAS GONE UP. NO EXCESSIVELY HARD DRIVING IN THE PAST. APPARENTLY TRANSAXLE SHIFT NOT SHIFTING INTO GEAR. *TR
THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM THAT HAS EXISTED SINCE I OWNED THE VEHICLE. MORE THEN HALF THE TIME WHEN I STEP DOWN ON THE GAS HARD, MY VEHICLE NEARLY STALLS, SEVERE HESITATION, THEN SLOWLY RECOVERS AND APPLIES POWER. THIS WOULD BE WHEN YOU HAVE TO PASS A CAR ON A TWO LANE ROAD OR MERGE INTO HEAVY TRAFFIC. IT IS HARD TO KNOW IF IT WILL BE THERE WHEN I NEED IT OR IF I WILL HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE ENGINE TO CATCH UP. I HAVE REPORTED IT TO THE TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT MULTIPLE TIMES; THEY HAVE TEST DROVE IT, HAD A FACTORY REP. LOOK AT IT AND AT COMPUTER PRINTOUTS. THEY ADMIT THERE IS A PROBLEM BUT DON'T SEEM TO KNOW HOW OR WANT TO FIX IT. I THOUGHT I SHOULD REPORT IT, SINCE THE INFORMATION COMING OUT NOW IS TOYOTA SEEMS TO LIKE TO HIDE THE SAFETY PROBLEMS WITH THEIR VEHICLES. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE I CAN'T DEPEND ON THE VEHICLE WHEN I MIGHT MOST NEED IT TO GET OUT OF THE WAY. *TR
WHEN USING THE VEHICLE'S CRUISE CONTROL IT WILL DOWN SHIFT BACK AND FORTH FROM 2ND AND 3RD GEAR NUMEROUS TIMES BEFORE FINALLY ACHIEVING THE ORIGINAL SPEED AND RETURNING TO 4TH GEAR. THIS OCCURS PREDOMINATELY ON HILLS WHERE THE VEHICLE SPEED WILL DROP FORCING THE DOWN SHIFT. THIS DOWN SHIFTING TO 2ND GEAR AT SPEEDS AS HIGH AS 55 MPH IS HARD ON THE ENGINE. IN ADDITION, THE ABILITY TO CONCENTRATE ON OTHER TRAFFIC AND ROAD CONDITIONS IS IMPAIRED. THE WHOLE ADVANTAGE OF CRUISE CONTROL IS NEGATED CAUSING A MORE HAZARDOUS CONDITION. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA RAV4. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE VEHICLE VEERED FROM LEFT TO RIGHT. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE TIRE PRESSURE WAS DIFFERENT ON ALL FOUR TIRES. THEY CORRECTED THE TIRE PRESSURE, HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT ALL TOYOTA'S EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE. NO REPAIRS OR ADJUSTMENTS WERE MADE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 1,100.
I HAVE A BRAND NEW 2007 RAV4 BASE 4CYL (6000 MILES ON IT) WITH THE CRUSE ON, GOING 60 - 65 MPH, UP HILL IT WILL START SHIFTING IN AND OUT OF GEARS, BUCKING AND JUMPING. *TR
KNOCKING/POPPING NOISE IN STEERING WHEN TRUN LEFT OR RIGHT. SOMETIME HAPPENS WHEN MAKE A U-TURN.
2007 TOYOTA RAV 4 CRUISE CONTROL CHANGES GEARS VIOLENTLY WHEN GOING UP A MINIMUM HILL AND CONTINUES TO CHANGE GEARS WHEN ON THE STRAIGHT AWAY. FEELS LIKE IT IS CHANGING BETWEEN THREE GEARS. I HAVE READ MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS IN FORUMS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. DEALER DENIES PROBLEM AND WILL NOT FIX. CAR ONLY HAS 5K MILES ON IT. *TR
YOHOMA TIRE TREAD ON A NEW 2 MONTH OLD TOYOTA RAV 4 COMPLETELY DISINTEGRATED ON THE FREEWAY. WE HAVE A PICTURE OF THE TIRE. DEALER WILL NOT ADDRESS THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH TIRE TO SEND BACK TO TIRE MANUFACTURER. VERY CONCERNED WITH SAFETY ASSOCIATED WITH 3 REMAINING TIRES.*AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA RAV4. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER STEERING WITHOUT WARNING. THE POWER STEERING DID NOT RETURN UNTIL THE DEALER REPLACED THE STEERING COLUMN. THE FAILURE RECURRED WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 4,600. THE CONSUMER STATED THE FIRST TIME THE STEERING MALFUNCTIONED, IT RESET ITSELF, HOWEVER THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED THE STEERING COLUMN WAS REPLACED. THE THIRD TIME, A COMPUTER COMPONENT WAS REPLACED. THE DEALER WAS NOT ABLE TO DETERMINE WHAT WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. UPDATED 09/18/07. *JB
I HAVE ALWAYS NOTICED THAT MY 2007 TOYOTA RAV4 SEEMED TO HAVE A SUDDEN BURST OF ACCELERATION WHEN I START TO MOVE. I ASKED A MECHANIC ONE TIME IF THIS COULD BE ADJUSTED AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THAT COULD BE DONE. I AM NOW WONDERING IF THE SAME ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL THAT IS CAUSING PROBLEMS ON THE LATER RAV4S IS ON MY RAV4. I BET IT IS THE SAME PROBLEM. I THOUGHT THERE WAS A MECHANICAL THROTTLE AND NOW I HEAR IT IS AN ELECTRONIC THROTTLE. IF ELECTRONIC, THEN I WOULD THINK A CHANGE IN THE COMPUTER CODE THAT CONTROLS THE THROTTLE WOULD FIX THE A PROBLEM. *TR
OUR 2007 RAV4 RECENTLY DEVELOPED A CLUNKING SOUND WHILE TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL AT LOW SPEEDS. WE WANT TOYOTA TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR, PREFERABLY THROUGH A RECALL, JUST AS GM IS DOING (FEB 2010 GM RECALL ON EPS). LOOKS LIKE MANY OF THE NEW EPS SYSTEMS MADE BY JAPANESE MANUFACTURER JTEKT ARE FAILING, AND WE ARE AFRAID THAT WE ARE SEEING ONLY THE BEGINNING OF A POTENTIALLY WORSE PROBLEM. STEERING IS IMPORTANT ENOUGH A PROBLEM FOR TOYOTA TO DO A RECALL, ESPECIALLY AFTER GM HAS DONE SO FOR THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. *TR
WHEN USING THE CRUISE CONTROL (WITH THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION) THE VEHICLE WILL SHIFT RAPIDLY BETWEEN 2ND AND 3RD GEARS WHEN CLIMBING SMALL INCLINES AND EVEN SOMETIMES ON FLAT GROUND. THIS ACTION STARTS WHEN THE TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTS TO MAINTAIN CURRENT SPEED. THIS WAS FIRST NOTED WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD JUST OVER 8,000 MILES. IT NOW HAS OVER 17,000 AND THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. IT HAS BEEN IN TO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE FOR REPAIRS. THE FIRST TIME I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. THE SECOND TIME I WAS TOLD IT WAS A COMPUTER PROBLEM AND COULD NOT BE REPAIRED AT THIS TIME. I WAS ADVISED BY THE SERVICING DEALER THAT IN ORDER TO MAKE A REPAIR TOYOTA WOULD HAVE TO CREATE A COMPUTER PROGRAM FOR THE TECHNICIANS TO INSTALL. AFTER TALKING WITH TOYOTA I HAVE BEEN TOLD THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM BUT A "CHARACTERISTIC" OF THE VEHICLE AND NO EFFORTS WERE BEING MADE FOR ANY TYPE OF REPAIR. THIS CONDITION MAKES FOR AN UNSTABLE AND DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITION WHEN THE CRUISE IS UTILIZED BECAUSE YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW THE VEHICLE WILL REACT DURING THE DRIVE. CURRENTLY I AM AWARE OF 12 CASE NUMBERS THAT HAVE BEEN CREATED WITH THE TOYOTA CUSTOMER SUPPORT CENTER ADDRESSING THIS SITUATION. SOME OF THESE CASES EVEN INVOLVE 2006 MODELS. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA RAV 4. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN OVER 1,000 MILES, THE ENGINE WOULD CONSUME ONE-HALF A QUART OF ENGINE OIL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ISSUE WAS NORMAL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 75,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000.
MY RAV4 V6 2007 37,887 MILES HAD A V V T OIL LINE RUPTURE AND EXTENSIVE LOSS OF OIL. THE OIL SPRAYED THE UPPER ENGINE AND LEAKED ON THE GROUND. THE CAR WAS CREATING A LOUD GRINDING SOUND AND THE OIL LIGHT FLICKERED THEN WENT OUT. THE SERVICE STATION WHERE I PULLED IN REFILLED THE OIL AND THEN FOUND THE LEAK.THE CAR HAD TO HAVE 5 QUARTS PUT INTO IT, IT HOLDS 6. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. A REQUEST TO EXAM THE VALVES AND DROP THE OIL PAN TO EXAM FOR METAL FILINGS OR ANY DAMAGE HAS BEEN DENIED. THEY WOULD ONLY REPLACED THE HOSE ACCORDING TO THE WARRANTY. THIS DEFECT WAS KNOWN BY TOYOTA ,TSB EG064-05, ON THE AVALON 2005 (SAME ENGINE). RESEARCH SHOWS THIS PART WAS STILL ON THE 2006-2008 RAV4 V6. THIS HOSE WAS REDESIGNED ON THE 2009 RAV4. THE OIL WARNING LIGHT ON THE RAV4 V6 DOES STAY LIT UNTIL AFTER ALL THE OIL IS GONE AND CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE OCCURS. TOYOTA BUILT IT WITH THIS DEFECT AND HAVE NO MECHANIC DEVICE TO WARN AND PROTECT THE CONSUMERS OF THE LEAK. I WAS TOLD SERVICE REPLACED AN ENGINE ON ANOTHER RAV4 RECENTLY, BUT MINE WAS NOT RUN UNTIL THE ENGINE STOPPED. AFTER I HAD MY NEW 2007 RAV4 FOR ABOUT HALF YEAR, I EXPERIENCED SUDDEN LOCKUP, FELT COULDN'T GO EVEN 10 METERS WITH SMOKING. MY DRIVING SPEED WAS ABOUT 20-30KMH, JUST OUT OF GARAGE ABOUT 200 METERS,AND MY NEIGHBOR SAW THE SMOKE AS WELL. IT REMAINED STEADY FOR A FEW SECONDS AT A CONSTANT SPEED THEN IT PROCEEDED TO ACCELERATE ABRUPTLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY IF ANOTHER VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN IN FRONT OF THE CONTACTS VEHICLE, TRYING TO SPEED UP AGAIN WAS ALSO A PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AND STAYED STEADY AT ANY GIVEN SPEED, BUT THEN AFTER A FEW SECONDS IT WOULD ACCELERATE TO A HIGHER SPEED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND WAS TOLD THESE VEHICLES DID NOT HAVE A CABLE GOING FROM THE GAS PEDAL TO THE MECHANISM THAT GIVE GAS TO THE VEHICLE. I BOUGHT MY 2007 RAV4 IN NOVEMBER 2006 AND TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER AFTER A COUPLE OF MONTHS BECAUSE OF THIS HUMMING/WHISTLING/WHINING NOISE THAT OTHERS HAVE COMPLAINED. HOWEVER, MY HUMMING NOISE IS INTERMITTENT WHICH MAKES IT HARD TO FIND, AND IT SEEMS TO BE MORE PREVALENT IN THE WARMER MONTHS, NOT THE COLDER MONTHS. I ASKED MY MECHANIC ABOUT IT, BUT HE COULDN'T RECREATE THE NOISE THE DAY MY CAR WAS IN THE SHOP. HOWEVER, I INTEND TO TAKE IT BACK THERE IF I'M EVER DRIVING IT IN THE AREA AND THE NOISE CROPS UP AGAIN. CLUNKING NOISE WHEN STEERING EITHER RIGHT OR LEFT, NOTICEABLE AT SLOWER SPEEDS. THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE IT WAS NEW BUT WE WERE TOLD IT WAS THE LEFT FRONT STRUT. ON OUR LAST SERVICE WE WERE TOLD IT INVOLVED THE STEERING. NOTE: RAV'S FRONT BUMPER HAD BEEN REPAIRED, BEFORE VEHICLE WAS DELIVERED TO US. WE WERE TOLD IT WAS MINOR DAMAGE JUST NEEDED REPAINTING..THIS VEHICLE HAS 64,000 ORIGINAL MILES.
CLICKING NOISE IN STEERING SHAFT. I HAD MENTIONED THIS TO THE DEALER IN NUMEROUS OCCASION THE MONTH AFTER MY WARRANTY WORE OUT THEY MENTIONED YES THERE IS A PROBLEM AND SEVERAL VEHICLES HAVE BEEN BROUGHT IN FOR THIS PROBLEM ITS CALLED THE STEERING SHAFT WHICH MAKES A CLICKING NOISE AND SOMETIMES BECOMES STUCK. THE DEALER HEADQUARTER TOYOTA (HORRIBLE SERVICER) FAILED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND I CONTACTED THE TOYOTA AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE PART EVEN THOUGH THERE IS RECALLS IN JAPAN FOR THIS SAME SITUATION. I AM NOT ABLE TO COVER THIS EXPENSIVE PART AND SO IM WAITING TO SEE IF THE RECALLS COMES TO THE US BEFORE THERE IS AN ACCIDENT. *TR
WHEN DRIVING FOR LONGS PERIODS, AND SOME SHORT PERIODS INCLUDING COMING HOME FROM THE DEALER WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS BRAND NEW, THE CHECK ENGINE, STABILITY CONTROL, AND 4WD LIGHTS COME ON IN THE CLUSTER. THE CRUISE CONTROL, 4WD, AND STABILITY CONTROL DO NOT FUNCTION WHEN THIS HAPPENS. THE DEALER CLAIMS THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY CODES AND CANNOT FIX IT. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE MARCH OF 2007, AND THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. HIT GARAGE WITH 2007 TOYOTA RAV 4 WHILE MOVING IT IN DRIVEWAY AT LOW SPEED. INCIDENT HAPPENED AFTER A LARGE SNOW STORM AND VEHICLE WAS BEING MOVED TO CLEAR AREA AFTER SNOW WAS REMOVED. IT SEEMED LIKE THE GAS PEDAL STUCK OR THE BRAKES FAILED. NO INJURIES JUST A DENT IN THE FRONT BUMPER. THE FAILURE HAS NOT OCCURRED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO TOYOTA DEALER (LIA TOYOTA IN SCHENECTADY NY) AND CONCERN ABOUT POSSIBLE BRAKE FAILURE WAS EXPRESSED. THE DEALER CHECKED THE BRAKES AND DID A DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTER CHECK. THEY TOLD ME " THAT THE DIAGNOSTIC INDICATED EVERYTHING WAS FINE" AND GAVE ME A $700 ESTIMATE TO REPAIR THE FRONT BUMPER DAMAGE. I DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME AND HAD THE DENT REPAIRED AT A LOCAL BODY SHOP. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER STILL SAYS THAT THIS IS NORMAL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 530. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 3000.
THE BRAKE AND GAS PEDALS IN THE 2007 TOYOTA RAV4 ARE TO CLOSE TOGETHER. IT IS NOT UNCOMMON WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKE TO ALL BE APPLYING PRESSURE ON THE GAS PEDAL AT THE SAME TIME. THIS WAS REPORTED TO THE DEALER. THE SALESMAN MEASURED THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE BRAKE AND GAS PEDALS IN A TOYOTA HIGHLANDER (I ALSO OWN A HIGHLANDER) AND CLAIMED THEY WERE THE SAME DISTANCE APART. WHEN I CALLED TOYOTA THEY SAID THEY DON'T RECOMMEND TO HAVE THE CRUISE ENGAGED WHILE GOING UPHILL. THAT'S FUNNY I HAVE A HONDA AND IT WORKS FINE GOING UPHILL. OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE - DEALER CONDUCTED A TEST AND PASSED THE VEHICLE DESPITE IT BURNING A QUART OF OIL AT 1100 MILES - WHICH POINTS IT A 0.009 QUARTS PER MILE - THIS MEANS AND 5000 MILES (THE RECOMMENDED MILEAGE BETWEEN OIL CHANGES) THE CAR HAS BURNED THROUGH 4.54 QUARTS WHEN IT ONLY HOLDS 4.5 QUARTS - IT CONSUMES ALL THE OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. HOW CAN THIS CAR PASS THE TEST?
