TRANSMISSION DEVELOPED AN ANNOYING WHINE FROM 40 TO 60 MPH. VERY DISTRACTING WHILE DRIVING BECAUSE OF THE HIGH PITCH NOISE IT MAKES INSIDE THE CABIN. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA RAV-4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PISTONS IN THE ENGINE FAILED AND THE ENGINE WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED WITH EITHER A NEW ONE OR A REBUILT ONE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 128,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
AT AROUND 20,000 MILES, MY 2007 TOYOTA RAV4 STARTED MAKING A CLUNKING SOUND WHEN I MADE RIGHT HAND TURNS. I BROUGHT IT IN TO THE DEALER BUT THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE SOUND. OVER TIME, THE CLUNKING GREW LOUDER AND COULD BE FELT TRAVELING UP THE STEERING SHAFT. I BROUGHT IT IN AGAIN JUST SHY OF THE 36 MONTH WARRANTY LIMIT AND WAS TOLD THAT ONCE AGAIN THE SERVICE TECHNICIANS COULD NOT DETECT ANY SOUND/DEFECT. HOWEVER, WHEN I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE IN FOR A SAFETY RECALL ON AN OIL HOSE, I MENTIONED THE STEERING PROBLEM YET AGAIN AND LO AND BEHOLD, THEY COULD NOW DETECT IT! HOWEVER, MY CAR WAS NOW PAST THE 36 MONTH COMPREHENSIVE WARRANTY COVERAGE, SO THE REPAIR WOULD BE OUT OF POCKET. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN PULLED UP THE SERVICE BULLETIN T-SB-0318-08, DATED 10-20-2008. IT CLEARLY DESCRIBES THE PROBLEM JUST AS I HAD DESCRIBED IT TO THE TECHNICIAN, AND WAS POSTED ALMOST A YEAR BEFORE MY SECOND TRIP TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. I HAVE NOT HAD THE PROBLEM REPAIRED YET, AND NOW THE CLUNK IS HEARD AND FELT WHEN TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE ULTIMATE OUTCOME WILL BE IF I IGNORE THE PROBLEM INDEFINITELY. I DO KNOW THAT I AM ONE OF MANY 2006-2008 RAV OWNERS WHO HAVE COMPLAINED OF THIS DEFECT ON THE INTERNET. BASED ON THIS NUMBER, TOYOTA SHOULD BE MADE TO RECALL THE DEFECT. *TR
2007 RAV4 LTD V6 - ALARM SYSTEM THAT KILLS ENGINE -- MALFUNCTIONED. SHORT IN ELECTRICAL SYSTEM BETWEEN ALARM SYSTEM AND BATTERY. DEALER SUPPOSEDLY FIXED, BUT I HEAR A BUZZ NOISE LIKE A WIRE SHORTING OUT AND THE ONE BEEP THE ALARM SYSTEM IS TO MAKE WHEN LOCKING CAR DOESN'T BEEP. SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONED 2 X AND LAST TIME WAS LEAVING AIRPORT AT MIDNIGHT. LUCKILY PULLED OFF INTERSTATE. CAR DIED. COULD HAVE HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE. CAR HORN CONTINUOUSLY BEEPED WHEN MALFUNCTIONING - WHICH COULD HAVE CAUSED ME TO BE CAR JACKED BY SOMEONE WHO THOUGHT I WAS INTENTIONALLY DOING THE BEEPING OR IT COULD HAVE KILLED THE ENGINE WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE. DEALER SAID PROBLEM WAS BATTERY THEN SAID SHORT BETWEEN BATTERY AND ALARM SYSTEM. SUPPOSEDLY FIXED IT BUT IT APPEARS THAT IT'S STILL NOT WORKING PROPERLY 2 WEEKS LATER SO TAKING BACK TO DEALER TODAY. *TR
I HAVE A2007 RAV4 PURCHASED NEW 11/06/07. THE CAR ACCELERATED AS I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, CAUSING ME TO HIT TWO SIGNS ACROSS THE STREET, BEFORE FINALLY STOPPING, WHEN IT HIT THE CORNER OF MY HOUSE. I MADE A COMPLETE LOOP. THIS ALL TOOK PLACE IN APPROXIMATELY 2 TO 3 SECONDS. I TRULY CAN NOT SAY WHETHER THE ACCELERATOR STUCK, IT JUST HAPPENED SO FAST. THE DAMAGE WAS $3900. I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A FREAK THING, HOWEVER WHEN I SEE ALL HAVE TROUBLES WITH TOYOTA, I THINK IT SHOULD BE REPORTED. *TR
MY HUSBAND WAS WORKING OUT OF TOWN ON BUSINESS IN FT. WORTH, TX. WE LIVE IN CINCINNATI, OH. ON DEC 4,2008, MY HUSBAND IN HIS 2007 TOYOTA RAV 4, ACCELERATED AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED FOR ABOUT 1/4 MILE INTO HIS HOTEL BUILDING. THIS WAS REPORTED BY TWO EYE WITNESSES (PER POLICE REPORT). MY HUSBAND HAS NO MEMORY OF THE EVENT. HE SPENT 7 DAYS IN THE ICU AND WAS DISCHARGED AFTER 10 DAYS FROM THE HOSPITAL. HE HAD ONE ADDITIONAL SURGERY AND SEVERAL FOLLOW UP CONSULTATIONS WITH SEVERAL DOCTORS SINCE TO DETERMINE WHAT CAUSED THE ACCIDENT. NOTHING WAS EVER DETERMINED. SINCE THE TOYOTA RECALL WAS ANNOUNCED, IT MAY OFFER AN ANSWER AS TO WHAT HAPPENED. HIS CAR WAS DESTROYED IN THE ACCIDENT, BUT WE STILL HAVE ALL THE INFORMATION. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON A RURAL INTERSTATE (I-16) IN GEORGIA WHEN I HEARD A LOUD EXPLOSION. I INITIALLY THOUGHT I HAD A BLOWN TIRE. I PULLED OVER TO FIND MY MOON ROOF HAD A HOLE LOCATED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GLASS. THE REST OF THE GLASS WAS SHATTERED IN TINY PIECES, BUT STILL HOLDING TOGETHER. I WAS THE ONLY ONE ON THE HIGHWAY AND WAS NOWHERE NEAR AN OVERPASS. WHEN I REACHED ATLANTA, I WENT TO MARIETTA TOYOTA FOR ASSISTANCE. THE INSPECTOR SAID THAT THE HOLE WAS CAUSED BY A ROCK BOUNCING UP OFF OF THE HIGHWAY. I WAS TRAVELING AT A RATE OF 65 MPH. I HAVE A WIND DEFLECTOR AT THE FRONT OF THE MOONROOF. THE GLASS AROUND THE HOLE WAS PUSHED UP AS IF PRESSURE HAD CAUSED THE EXPLOSION. THE SCENERIO HE DESCRIBED WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE. THE COVER WAS CLOSED ON THE INTERIOR, SO THANKFULLY, NO ONE WAS HURT. TOYOTA HAS REFUSED TO REPAIR THE MOON ROOF. THE COST IS $585.00 PLUS LABOR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA RAV4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE COMING TO A STOP, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES, YET THE VEHICLE KEPT ACCELERATING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE AND BRAKE SYSTEM WERE FAILING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THE INTERMEDIATE DRIVE SHAFT WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE YEARS LATER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE REPLICATED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED FOR TWO YEARS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 19,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,000. KMJ
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA RAV4. SHE STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING UP A HILL AT 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE STARTING JERKING AND ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE WITHOUT INTENT. SHE THEN TAPPED HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE STARTED TO DECREASE IN SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED THREE TIMES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15948 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 37000.
OTHER VEHICLE MAKING A LEFT TURN HIT MY CAR AT FRONT RIGHT BUMPER AND MY CAR CAUGHT ON FIRE. AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOYED EITHER. I THINK THERE IS SOME MANUFACTURING DEFECT IN MY CAR IT SHOULD NOT CAUGHT ON FIRE IN SUCH A SMALL ACCIDENT AT LOW SPEED OF 25 MPH. LUCKILY OTHER CAR PASSING BY SHOW MY CAR ON FIRE AND SHOUTED TO MY DAUGHTER TO GET OUT OF THE CAR AND SHE IS BEING SAVED. PLEASE HELP ME IN THIS MATTER. HOWEVER, HE NOTICED THE SAME FAILURE EVEN AFTER THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE STEERING SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO REFUSED TO REPAIR IT. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 71,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 28,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA RAV4. THE SPARE TIRE WAS STOLEN FROM THE REAR DOOR OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. HE WAS CONCERNED OF THE TIRE NOT BEING SECURED BY A SAFETY LOCK. A REPLACEMENT SPARE TIRE WAS ORDERED AT THE ESTIMATED COST OF $500. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 13,000.

I OWN A 2007 RAV4. IN FALL 2008, MY HUSBAND AND I PULLED UP TO A RED LIGHT BEHIND A PICKUP TRUCK AND STOPPED THE VEHICLE. MY HUSBAND HAD HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKE BUT, JUST AS HE STOPPED, THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. EVEN THOUGH HE IMMEDIATELY PUT BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE, WE ENDED UP HITTING THE TRUCK IN FRONT OF US. THE ACCIDENT CAUSED ABOUT $1,500 DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END OF OUR CAR. THE TRUCK IN FRONT SUSTAINED NO VISIBLE DAMAGE, AND THE DRIVER SAID DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT AND WE DID NOT FILE A POLICE REPORT. AFTER THE ACCIDENT, THE VEHICLE WAS THOROUGHLY INSPECTED BY DOWLING TOYOTA OF LITCHFIELD CT. THEY DID NOT FIND ANYTHING MECHANICALLY OR ELECTRONICALLY WRONG WITH THE CAR THAT WOULD CAUSE THE UNEXPECTED AND UNSTOPPABLE ACCELERATION. THEY DID FIND SOME ACORNS UNDER THE HOOD, AND GIVEN THE LACK OF ANY OTHER IDENTIFIABLE CAUSE, THEY SUGGESTED THAT THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION MIGHT HAVE BEEN DUE TO THE INGESTION OF A NUT INTO THE ENGINE WHICH HELD THE ACCELERATOR OPEN. AT THE TIME I RELUCTANTLY ACCEPTED THIS EXPLANATION BECAUSE OUR ACCIDENT WAS AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. HOWEVER, IN LIGHT OF RECENT EVENTS CONCERNING TOYOTA VEHICLES, I CAN'T HELP BUT WONDER IF OUR EXPERIENCE WITH OUR RAV4 WAS PART OF A LARGER PROBLEM. MY EXPERIENCE WITH OUR 2007 VEHICLE WAS EERILY SIMILAR TO THOSE OF THE AFFECTED MODELS THAT HAVE BEEN RECALLED. I AM HEARING ON THE NEWS THAT IT HAS TAKEN SEVERAL YEARS FOR TOYOTA TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE ACCELERATOR PROBLEM, AND I CAN'T HELP BUT WONDER IF OUR ACCIDENT WAS RELATED TO A SIMILAR PROBLEM. JEST BOUGHT A 2007 RAV4, THE FRONT BUMPER AT THE HEADLIGHT SEAM CLIPS ARE BROKEN ON BOTH SIDES OF VEHICLE. LOOKED AT THREE SAME MODELS WITH ABOUT 20,000 TO 26,000 MILES WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
I HAVE A 2007 RAV 4. IN AUG 2008 IT STARTED MAKING A CLUNKING NOISE AT LOW SPEEDS. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND PART OF THE STEERING COLUMN WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. THE NOISE WENT AWAY. NOW IT IS OCT. 2010 AND THE NOISE IS BACK BUT VEHICLE IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. SEARCHING 07 RAV 4 CLUNKING NOISE IN STEERING COLUMN I REALIZE THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AND A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
ME AGAIN FOR THE 3RD TIME THE CHARCOAL FILTER AND HOSE BROKE OFF WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN RAINING. IT CAUSES THE CHARCOAL CANNISTER ASSY. TO BE CONTAMINATED AND THE CHECK ENGINE, VSC, LSD LIGHTS TO ALL COME ON. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA RAV 4. THE CONTACT STATED HER BRAKES LOCKS WHENEVER THE ROAD WAS SLIPPERY. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS TO INCLUDE 20 MPH, SHE LIGHTLY TAPPED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE BRAKE PEDAL EXTENDED TO THE FLOOR. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ENGAGED IT RESPONDED AS IF THERE WAS NO PEDAL. THE DEALER PREVIOUSLY STATED SEVERAL TIMES THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
WAS DRIVING THROUGH A PARKING LOT AND ALL SIDE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED FOR NO REASON. ALL THEY DID WAS REPLACE AIRBAGS. DID NOT FIND CAUSE. *TR
THE VSC, CHECK ENGINE, LSD LIGHTS CAME ON AND WE BROUGHT IT IN FOR SERVICE. THE CHARCOAL CANISTER AND HOSE AND CHARCOAL FILTER ALL MISSING CAUSING CONTAMINATION TO CHARCOAL CANNISTER CONTAMINATION. WE WERE TOLD IT WASN'T COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND WERE CHARGED APP. $1294. THE HOSE AGAIN FEEL OFF APP. 3 WEEKS LATER AND WE HAD TO BRING IT IN AGAIN AT NO CHARGE THIS TIME. *TR

TOYOTA RAV4, 2007, 2WD, 2.4LTR. DROVE THROUGH DEEP WATER AFTER TORRENTIAL STORMS IN UPPER OHIO. CHECK ENGINE , VSC, AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. FOUND THE EVAP SYSTEM CHARCOAL CANISTER FILTER HOSE BROKEN OFF AT THE FILTER ASSEMBLY. WATER HAD FILLED UP THE CHARCOAL CANISTER AS WELL AS GRAVEL AND SAND. IN ADDITION, THE ELECTRICAL MODULE ATTACHED TO THE CANISTER WAS FILLED WITH GRAVEL, SAND AND WATER. *TR
SUDDEN ACCELERATION WHILE PARKING MY 2007 RAV 4 CAUSED ME TO GO OFF A FOUR FOOT RETAINING WALL AND THE VEHILE WAS TOTALED
MY WIFE WAS TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE 79 AND THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT TIRE FAILED. THE TIRE TREAD HAD SEPARATED FROM THE SIDEWALLS. THE TIRES ARE YOKOHAMA GEOLANDER P225/65/17 G91A. *TR
ELECTRIC POWER STEERING FAILURE,HAD TO DRIVE FROM LORSBURGE N.M.TO EL PASO TX 180 MILES WITH NO ELECTRIC POWER STEERING. TOOK CAR TO DICK POE TOYOTA ON 5/14/08 CAR HAD 2 FAILURE CODES 1-COMPUTER FAILED 2-POWER STEERING MOTOR FAILED DEALER WOULD NOT MAKE REPAIRS,CAR IS COVERED BY TOYOTA WITH 100,000 MILES WARRANTY. *TR
THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE OF EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. IT HAS BEEN AN ISSUE SINCE MY VEHICLE WAS PURCHASE NEW. I NOTICED THAT I HAD TO GET MY OIL CHANGED EVERY 3000 MILES AND COULD NOT MAKE IT TO 5000 MILES AS RECOMMENDED BY MY MECHANIC FOR OIL CHANGES. THIS HAS GOTTEN WORSE AS MY CAR HAS AGED. I NOW RUN OUT OF OIL (OIL INDICATOR LIGHT COMES ON AND NOT A DROP ON THE DIPSTICK) EVERY 1200-1300 MILES. I HAVE TO CARRY QUARTS OF OIL IN MY CAR ALL THE TIME TO BE SURE I DON'T GET STUCK WITH A SEIZED ENGINE AND I NEED TO TOP OFF MY OIL AT LEAST TWICE IN BETWEEN 3000 MILE OIL CHANGES. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH OTHER RAV OWNERS AS WELL AS MY OIL CHANGE ESTABLISHMENT AND I UNDERSTAND THIS IS A COMMON AND KNOWN ISSUE FOR RAVS. TOYOTA NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS.

THE FAILURE OCCURRED FIVE TIMES BETWEEN THE CONTACT AND THE OTHER THREE DRIVERS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 22,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 37,000.
NEW AIR MONITOR VALVE STEMS ON TOYOTA VEHICLES ARE MADE OF ALUMINUM ALLOY MATERIAL, NOT THE STANDARD BRASS METAL USED ON MOST VALVE STEMS. THE USE OF COMMON METAL CAPS TO COVER THE VALVE STEMS IN CONJUNCTION WITH COMMON HIGHWAY DE-ICER CHEMICALS CAN RESULT IN ACCELERATED CORROSION AND SEIZING OF THE VALVE CAPS TO THE STEM. THE RESULT IS THAT YOU CANNOT REMOVE THE VALVE CAP TO PUT AIR IN THE TIRE AND IF TOO MUCH FORCE IS APPLIED TO TRY AND REMOVE THE CAP, THE STEM WILL FAIL AND LET THE AIR OUT. I WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE "DRIVING MEMORY FEATURE" IN THE COMPUTER ON THE VEHICLE WHEN CONSIDERING BUYING. VEHICLE HAS LAG TIME BETWEEN THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATION OR TAKE EVASIVE CAPABILITY TO AVOID ACCIDENT OR GET OUT OF THE WAY TO AVOID BEING HIT. THE MEMORY FEATURE, ELECTRONICS/COMPUTER SYSTEM DEVELOPS A MEMORY AS TO A PERSON'S DRIVING "HABIT". IT THEN BECOMES CONFUSED BECAUSE EVERY TIME I DRIVE CONDITIONS CHANGE, MINUTE TO MINUTE, DAY TO DAY, CAUSING THE SYSTEM TO BECOME CONFUSED WHEN I ASK THE CAR TO RESPOND TO AN EXCEPTION IN DRIVING CONDITIONS. IT DROVE WELL FOR 2 DAYS THEN HAS RETURNED BACK TO THE PREVIOUS ERASED MEMORY. MY GAS MILEAGE IS WORSE. I TALKED WITH ANOTHER OWNER AND HE TOLD ME TO TAKE IT OUT OF OVERDRIVE FOR IN-TOWN DRIVING. WE BOUGHT OUR TOYOTA, A NEW 2007/4430C RAV4 (5-DOOR 4X2 SUV), ON 9/7/07, AND HAVE NOTICED SEVERAL PROBLEMS IN THE OPERATION OF THIS VEHICLE. OUR RAV4 CURRENTLY HAS AROUND 24,000 MILES ON IT, AND THE PROBLEMS HAVE NEITHER INCREASED NOR DECREASED IN FREQUENCY. BECAUSE THESE PROBLEMS ARE INTERMITTENT, OUR DEALER, DUNNING TOYOTA OF ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN, WAS UNABLE TO REPLICATE WHAT WE EXPERIENCE. IN THE WINTER OF 2008, I WAS TRAVELING AT A LOW SPEED (BEGINNING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP) ON SLICK PAVEMENT WHEN THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME UNEXPECTEDLY STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. I IMMEDIATELY APPLIED THE BRAKE BUT THE CAR DID NOT SEEM TO SLOW DOWN. THE RESULTING COLLISION RESULTED IN $615.63 IN DAMAGE TO OUR VEHICLE. I DO NOT KNOW THE EXACT DATE OF THE ACCIDENT.
