The tread came off on the freeway. The actual tire is still in tact. The tread flew off and ripped our bumper and quarter panel off. The back latch and window to open the vehicle to retrieve the spare no longer work. We are now concerned with the other tires quality and tread.
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 2015, I WAS DRIVING DOWN INTERSTATE 37 TOWARD CORPUS CHRISTI, TX, AND OUT OF THE BLUE MY WELL MAINTAINED VEHICLE HAD A HARD SHAKE/SHIMMY IN THE REAR END. IT ROCKED MY REAREND LEFT TO RIGHT. VERY SCARY. LUCKILY I HAD BOTH HANDS ON THE WHEEL. THE TRACTION CONTROL SENSOR WENT OFF. I BRAKED, THINKING MAYBE I HAD HAD A TIRE GO FLAT QUICKLY. VERY SCARY AT 75 MPH. ALSO VERY LUCKY THAT NOT SEMI'S OR VEHICLES WERE NEAR ME. I TURNED THE SEQUOIA OFF AND GOT OUT TO CHECK THE TIRES. THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. I GOT BACK IN AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS HAD GONE OFF, SO I STARTED TO ACCELERATE BACK INTO TRAFFIC...AND THE SEQUOIA WENT CRAZY AGAIN, REAR END SHAKING, TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS GOING OFF. IT WAS 8 PM, DARK. I WAS TOO SCARED TO TRY DRIVING AGAIN, SO I CALLED FOR A TOW. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH ON SIMILAR PROBLEMS AND FOUND THERE WERE MANY. SOME PEOPLE SAY IT IS AN ELECTRONIC CONTROL SENSOR. EACH WHEEL HAS ONE AND MAYBE ONE WENT OUT CAUSING THAT WHEEL TO ROTATE DIFFERENTLY FROM THE OTHERS, JERKING THE CAR AROUND. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS! I HAD BEEN IN SAN ANTONIO, TX RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC JUST 3 HOURS BEFORE AND HAD THIS JERKING THAT CAUSED SWERVING HAPPENED ON THE DOWNTOWN HIGHWAYS, SOMEONE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. PEOPLE SHOULD BE WARNED AND TOYOTA SHOULD RECALL VEHICLES AFFECTED, BECAUSE FROM MY RESEARCH, THERE ARE A LOT OF AFFECTED SEQUOIAS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY AND THAT THE VEHICLE WENT INTO A LIMP MODE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT EACH TIME THE FAILURE OCCURRED, THE VEHICLE WAS EXTREMELY SLOW TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 11V148000 (TIRES). FOR YEARS, THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO EXPLAIN WHY THE RECALL REPAIR WAS NOT COMPLETED. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO NOT ABLE TO DETERMINE WHEN THAT RECALL WOULD BE PERFORMED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000.

RECEIVED COURTESY INSPECTION THAT INCLUDED TIRE TREAD/CONDITION CHECK. CHECKS WERE GOOD WITH OUTER/INNER TREAD DEPTH OF 8/5, 7/5, 8/8, 8/8. TIRES ROTATED AND FRONT END ALIGNMENT ACCOMPLISHED DUE TO UNEVEN WEAR ON FRONT TIRES. ON NOV 4, 2013, 400 MILES OF INTERSTATE DRIVING AFTER 9 OCT 2013 TIRE ROTATION/FRONT END ALIGNMENT, 7/5 TIRE TREAD SEPARATED ON INTERSTATE DAMAGING LEFT REAR WHEEL WELL, LEFT REAR QUARTER PANEL AND REAR BUMPER ($2500 DAMAGE). 11 APRIL 2014, APPROX 2500 MILES AFTER 9 OCT 2013 TIRE ROTATION/FRONT END ALIGNMENT, 8/5 TIRE TREAD SEPARATED ON INTERSTATE DAMAGING RIGHT REAR WHEEL WELL, RIGHT REAR QUARTER PANEL, RIGHT REAR DOOR AND REAR BUMPER (APPROX $2000 DAMAGE). LEFT REAR TIRE TREAD SEPARATION ON 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA ON INTERSTATE 10 AT 70 MPH. IT WAS ORIGINAL TIRE INSTALLED BY THE MANUFACTURER. CAR MILEAGE WAS 34,400. DUNLOP GRAND TREK AT21, P265/70/R16. DAMAGES TO CAR $1590.00. TIRE WAS THE CAUSE OF ACCIDENT, AND THEREFORE NOT COVERED BY INSURANCE. DEMAND REIMBURSEMENT OF DEDUCTIBLE AND FREE REPLACEMENT OF FULL SET OF TIRES.*AK
DEFECTIVE DUNLOP TIRE INSIDE COMING APART. TIRES HAVE TO BE REPLACED. *BF BOTH TIRES SEEMED TO HAVE HAD LARGE INDENTS WITHIN THE TREAD ON THE INSIDE SHOULDER. *SC
FAILURE REGUARDING TO TIRES....IN PARTICULAR TO TOYO TIRES / OPEN COUNTRY, 265/R70/16. HE PROBLEM IS A SAFETY ISSUE, THE TIRES ARE CRACKING IN THE TREAD GROOVES. AND NOT JUST ONE TIRE ALL FOUR TIRES, TO TOP THAT ALL OFF THESE ARE THE SECOND SET....THE FIRST ONE'S WERE ALREADY REPLACED FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THE ORIGINALS HAD ONLY LESS THAN 10,000MILES WHEN I, HAD NOTICED THE CRACKING, TOYO TIRES REPLACED ALL FOUR BECAUSE OF THE DEFECT( ALL FOUR TIRE WERE CRACKED). THE REPLACEMENT SET ALSO CRACKED THE SAME WAY, BUT I, HAD JUST NOTICED THE DEFECT....ALMOST 45,000MILES LATER (AGAIN ALL FOUR TIRES ARE CRACKED THE SAME WAY. I HAVE BEEN TOLD DIFFERENT AND CHANGING STORIES. WHAT I WANT TO KNOW ARE THESE TIRES SAFE....I'M WORRIED ABOUT MY FAMILIES SAFETY, ARE THESE TIRES GOING TO EXPLODE AS THEY DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY(WE HAVE A LARGE SUV). THIS DEFECT SHOULD BE CHECKED OUT. I CAN SEND A COPY OF THE BILLS AND THE AUTHORIZATION NUMBERS FOR THE REPLACEMENTS (SECOND SET / ALL FOUR). ALSO I AM WILLING TO SEND THE TIRES. THE TIRES HAD NO TRACTION, WHEN DRIVING IN THE SNOW, CONSUMER STATED THE TIRES WERE INCOMPATIBLE WITH THE VEHICLE.*JB

DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED. *JB CONSUMER STATED THAT THE TIRE HAD NEVER BEEN SOFT OR FLAT, THE WHOLE SIDE WALL BLEW OUT. *YH
