WHILE DRIVING MY 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA, I PULLED INTO TRAFFIC AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE TRUCK LOST POWER AS CARS SWERVED AROUND ME AND A VIOLENT GRINDING NOISE STARTED. A SKID CONTROL LIGHT STARTED FLASHING. I COULD FEEL THE GRINDING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. AFTER A FEW SECONDS, THE TRUCK BEEPED AND 2 MORE LIGHTS CAME ON. THE "TRAC OFF" AND "VSC" CAME ON. AFTER THAT THE TRUCK DROVE NORMAL. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES NOW! I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE ON THE ROAD AS THIS SEEMS TO HAPPEN AT ANY MOMENT. I HAVE READ ALL ABOUT THIS PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET. MANY SEQUOIA OWNERS HAVE HAD THESE SAME PROBLEMS. WHY WILL TOYOTA NOT FIX THESE PROBLEMS??? WHAT HAS TO HAPPEN FOR THEM TO FEEL RESPONSIBLE?? *TR
MY 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIAS UNDER CARRIAGE HAS EXCESSIVE RUST. I HAVE A FAMILY WITH 4 KIDS AND IS VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AND CAN LEAD TO CATASTROPHIC FAILURE,I NEED HELP IMMEDIATELY AND THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS. *TR
I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM TOYOTA CLAIMING THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE FRAME RUSTING ON MY 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA LIMITED. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR THEIR REQUIRED INSPECTION AND THEY SAID IT NEEDS A NEW FRAME. THEY ARE IN THE PROCESS OF PLACING A NEW FRAME ON THE VEHICLE. I STATED TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT I REFUSE TO PAY FOR ANY ADDITIONAL ADD ON EXPENSES AS A RESULT OF THERE TAMPERING. I ALSO STATED AND FILED A COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA THAT THE VEHICLE WILL NOT RUN PROPERLY BECAUSE OF THE ITS AGE, MILEAGE AND WORKING WITH CORRODED PARTS WILL NOT FIT, SEAL AND TIGHTEN PROPERLY. TOYOTA ALSO STATED THAT AFTER THE NEW FRAME IS INSTALLED THEY WILL NOT SERVICE ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE IF IT IS NOT DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE FRAME. UNACCEPTABLE TERMS. THEY SHOULD FIX AT THEIR EXPENSE ANY PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED NOW ANDIN THE FUTURE AS A RESULT OF THIS RECALL. THEY SHOULD ALSO OFFER COMPENSATION AS THEY PREVIOUSLY HAD DOWN WITH OTHER MAKES AND MODELS SEVERAL YEARS AGO. *TR
LOYAL TOYOTA OWNER. ALL OF A SUDDEN BEEPING, GRINDING NOISE, VSC/TRAC LIGHT GOES ON, PASSENGER FRONT BRAKE LOCKS & VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE PULLING TO ONE SIDE. THE SPEED WAS ESTIMATED AT 35-50 MPH, DRY ROAD CONDITIONS. THIS PROBLEM HAD BEEN NOTED SEVERAL TIMES RANDOMLY VEHICLE SKID CONTROL (VSC) SIMPLY ENGAGES AT NORMAL SPEEDS. IT'S THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AS THE 2003 WHICH THE VSC SYSTEM & COMPONENTS WAS RECALLED. DISAPPOINTED WITH TOYOTA 2002 NOT INCLUDED WITH RECALL! UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND IS DANGEROUS! AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN! *TR
TRAC OFF, VSC TRAC LIGHTS CAME ON AS THE REAR WHEEL LOCKED UP FOR A SEC . LOSS OF POWER , VEHICLE PULLED HARD TO THE RIGHT ALMOST CAUSING COLLISION WITH 18 WHEELER ON HIGHWAY. *TR
WE RECEIVED A RECALL IN JUNE 2014 FOR THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG ON OUR 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA THAT WAS ANNOUNCED IN APRIL OF 2013 BY TOYOTA AS BEING DEFECTIVE(CAUSING SERIOUS HARM IF DEFLATED AS METAL PARTS COULD STRIKE OCCUPANTS OF VEHICLE). IT IS NOW APRIL OF 2015 AND WE HAVE NOT BEEN NOTIFIED BY TOYOTA TO HAVE THIS REMEDIED. ACCORDING TO THE STATUS ON WWW.TOYOTA.COM/RECALL THEIR ISN'T A REMEDY AVAILABLE. 2 YEARS HAVE PASSED AND THIS IS TOO LONG TO HAVE A CUSTOMER WAIT FOR A REMEDY AND IT IS VERY DISAPPOINTING TO ME AS I THOUGHT HIGHLY OF TOYOTA UNTIL NOW AND WILL SPREAD THE WORD TO EVERYONE I KNOW IF THIS ISN'T TAKEN CARE OF SOON. WE ARE TIRED OF NOT BEING ABLE TO HAVE ANYONE RIDE IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. PLEASE GET ON TOYOTA TO DO THE RIGHT THING AND FIX OUR VEHICLE'S FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG. *TR
DRIVING AT 75MPH AND INEXPLICABLY LOST VEHICLE SPEED. ENGINE WAS RUNNING BUT WOULD NOT RESPOND TO FOOT FEED, I.E. PRESS DOWN ON ACCELERATOR AND LITTLE TO NO INCREASE IN RPMS FROM IDLE. DEALER REPLACED THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, AN ALARM STARTED GOING OFF AND SKID CONTROL LIGHT ON DASH WAS FLASHING AND THEN MOTOR LOST RPM, THE VEHICLE SHOOK AS IF ALL THE TIRE WHERE FLAT, THIS HAPPENED FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS, WHILE I TRIED TO GET OUT OF TRAFFIC AND OFF THE ROAD, THEN THE VSC LIGHTS CAME ON IN THE DASH, THEN THE VEHICLE SMOOTHED OUT AND RAN NORMAL! AFTER LOOKING AT ALL THE FORUM ONLINE FOR THIS PROBLEM, IT APPARENTLY IS A HUGE PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES AND AFTER CALLING TOYOTA ABOUT THIS THEY CLAIM THAT THIS PROBLEM DOES NOT EXIST, AS ALL THE FORUM WE READ SAID THAT TOYOTA WOULD NOT EXCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS SAFETY PROBLEM! THEREFOR WE FILED A CASE TO TOYOTA, HOPING THEY COULD HELP US OUT! BECAUSE THIS HAPPENS ON THE ROAD IT IS HARD TO HAVE IT IDENTIFIED BY A MECHANIC AND A COMPUTER! WE CANNOT WITH THIS ECONOMY IN ANYWAY AFFORD THE EXTREME HIGH PRICE OF TOYOTAS SERVICE WORK , I FEEL MY FAMILY COULD BE IN GREAT DANGER! *TR
MY VEHICLE FRAME WAS REPLACED BY TOYOTA DUE TO A RECALL. WHEN I GOT THE CAR BACK, I NOTICED A WHINING SOUND, BUT DID NOT THINK MUCH OF IT SINCE THE MECHANIC SAID IT MIGHT TAKE A MONTH FOR THE FRAME TO SETTLE. I RETURNED ONE MONTH LATER TO HAVE THE WHINING SOUND CHECKED AND WAS TOLD THE POWER STEERING LINES WERE RUSTED AND NEEDED REPLACED AT THE COST ODF$ 750. TOYOTA ASSURED ME THAT THE SEQUOIA SHOULD LAST A LONG TIME!!! I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. I WONDER IF THE RUSTED POWER STEERING LINES ARE PART OF THE RUSTED FRAME RECALL. I HAVE REALLY LOVED MY SEQUOIA, BUT I DO NOT WANT TO PAY FOR ANY MORE REPAIRS!!!! PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF OTHERS(EITHER THE TOYOTA TRUCK FRAME OR SEQUOIA FRAME), HAVE HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM. *TR
RUSTED FRAME, UNDERCARRIAGE ON 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. 100,000 MI. TOYOTA WANTS $2,500.00 TO REPLACE FOR PARTS AROUND FRAME NOT COVERED. THIS LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN IS A FARCE. CONSUMERS WHO GET INSPECTED AND/OR DRIVE VEHICLE ARE LIABLE IF THERE IS AN INJURY OR INCIDENT. THEY SHOULD BE FORCED TO BUY BACK VEHICLES THAT ARE RUSTED, NOT CHARGE CONSUMERS FOR THE REPAIRS AND/OR REPLACEMENT OF RUSTED PARTS TO REPLACE FRAME. IT WOULD COST THEM LESS TO BUY BACK THEN TO REPLACE. PLEASE CONSUMERS COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS. TOYOTA IS NOT BEING ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS PROBLEM ON THEIR SEQUOIA. THIS IS NOT A FREE SERVICE,REPLACEMENT. AS MANY CONSUMERS WILL BE REQUIRED TO PAY SOMETHING TO REPLACE. CURRENTLY THEY ARE NOT REQUIRED TO BUY BACK, IT IS THEIR OWN REMEDY AND A GOOD ONE,AS ONCE INSPECTED AND FOUND TO BE RUSTED THE CONSUMER IS RESPONSIBLE. PLEASE HELP NTSB TO STOP TOYOTA FROM THIS UNFAIR PRACTICE! FOR THOSE CONSUMERS THAT HAVE A RUSTED OUT VEHICLE, MAKE THEM BUY IT BACK TO KEEP THE ROADS SAFE AND THE CONSUMERS. IT IS UNJUST AND DANGEROUS TO ALLOW THIS REMEDY TO CONTINUE IF IT IS NOT A TOTALLY FREE REPLACEMENT INCLUDUNG THE PARTS TO REPAIR AND MAKE SAFE. SHOULD NOT COST ANY CONSUMER TO RECIFY THE PROBLEM, PLEASE PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS!! MY VEHICLE IS NOW WORTHLESS, AND I AM NOT OR WILL NOT BE THE ONLY ONE. TOYOTA IS GETTING AWAY WITH SHIRKING THEIR RESPONSIBILTY TO THE CONSUMER WHO PURCHASED IN GOOD FAITH. PLEASE HAVE MERCY ON US!! THIS IS NOT FAIR!!! AND IT IS DANGEROUS AND SHOULD BE UNLAWFUL FOR TOYOTA TO CONDUCT BUSINESS LIKE THIS.. THIS IS NOT A FREE FRAME REPLACEMENT TO EVERY ONE. THEY SHOULD BE COMPELLED TO REPLACE AT NO COST TO CONSUMERS. SOME BUT NOT ALL ARE FREE DUE TO DEGREES OF CORROSION WHICH CLEARLY IS DANGEROUS AND UNSAFE AND IF IT CANNOT BE REMEDIED BY THE FRAME REPLACEMENT, A BUY BACK SHOULD BE INSTITUTED FOR THE ABOVE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR AN UNRELATED REPAIR AND THEY NOTICED THAT THE ENTIRE FRAME WAS COMPLETELY COVERED WITH RUST. THERE WAS A LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN ISSUED BY THE MANUFACTURER RELATED TO RUST CORROSION TO THE FRAME. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED BECAUSE ADDITIONAL PARTS WERE REQUIRED AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE IN ORDER TO PERFORM THE REMEDY REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,000.
MY WIFE AND I WERE ON THE WAY SOUTH I-405 FROM WORK TO GO TO THE CHURCH. I MADE EXIT AT FAIRVIEW, AND THEN LEFT ON BAKER STREET. I FELT THE STEERING WHEEL WAS VERY HEAVY AND UNCONTROLLABLE. THE CAR CRASHED. THERE WAS NO OTHER CAR INVOLVED. MY BREAST AND HEAD ARE IN PAIN RIGHT NOW. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY CAME TO A COMPLETE HALT WITHOUT THE CONTACT DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE BEGAN MOVING AND SHAKING VIOLENTLY. THE FAILURE OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.
TRAVELING HOME AT NORMAL SPEED THE VSC/TRAC LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN VIBRATING AND MAKING A GRINDING NOISE. AFTER STOPPING ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND ON TO POSSIBLY RESET THE VSC/TRAC. IT SEEMED TO WORK BRIEFLY BUT IT STARTED TO DO IT AGAIN. WE ATTEMPTED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE STORE AND THE PROBLEM STARTED AGAIN. WE NOTED AUDIBLE ALERTS AND THE VSC/TRAC LIGHTS ILLUMINATING, GRINDING FROM WHAT SEEMED TO BE THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT TIRE. HE HAD TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD; HOWEVER, FOUND IT DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. THE SPEED WAS ESTIMATED AT 35-40 MPH, DRY CONDITIONS WITH NO OBVIOUS ROAD CONDITIONS OR ISSUES. THIS PROBLEM HAD BEEN NOTED SEVERAL TIME RANDOMLY OVER THE PAST TWO YEARS, BUT HAS SEEMINGLY BEEN RESOLVED BY TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON. THIS VEHICLE HAS A RUSTED FRAME WHICH TOYOTA WILL REPLACE. THEY WILL NOT REPLACE WITHOUT CUSTOMER COST SEVERAL PARTS AFFECTED BY THE FRAME REPLACEMENT. THIS IS THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS REQUIRED BY THE CUSTOMER THAT OTHERWISE WOULD NOT BE REQUIRED. I WANT TOYOTA TO PAY FOR THE FRAME AND THE OTHER REQUIRED PARTS. *TR

HE NOTED AUDIBLE ALERTS AND THE VSC/TRAC LIGHTS ILLUMINATING, GRINDING FROM WHAT SEEMED TO BE THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT TIRE. HE HAD TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD; HOWEVER, FOUND IT DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. THE SPEED WAS ESTIMATED AT 35-40 MPH, DRY CONDITIONS WITH NO OBVIOUS ROAD CONDITIONS OR ISSUES. SMOKE WAS OBSERVED COMING FROM THE PASSENGER FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THIS PROBLEM HAD BEEN NOTED SEVERAL TIME RANDOMLY OVER THE PAST TWO YEARS, BUT HAS SEEMINGLY BEEN RESOLVED BY TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME THAT THE ISSUE HAS PERSISTED, AND THE INCREASED DIFFICULTY IN STEERING. *TR
IN 2002, I COMPLAINED OF RUST RAPIDLY ACCUMULATING ON THE VEHICLE. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT RUSTPROOFING CAME ON THE VEHICLE AND THEY WOULD REACH OUT TO TOYOTA DIRECTLY TO GET AN EXCLAMATION. THEY INFORM ME THAT TOYOTA CONFIRMED THAT STATEMENT THE RUSTPROOFING WAS PROVIDED. IN 2013, I RECEIVED WHAT WAS CALLED THE 'LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN' STATING THAT THE INCORRECT RUSTPROOFING WAS APPLIED TO THE VEHICLE FOR COLD WEATHER STATES THAT USE SALT IN THE WINTER. AT THAT TIME WAS SEVERE CORROSION IN THE BODY THAT WAS SEPARATING FROM THE FRAME. I WROTE A LETTER TO TOYOTA CEO AND THE US OFFICE INTERCEPTED THE LETTER TO COMMUNICATE WITH ME. I REQUESTED THE REPLACEMENT OF MY VEHICLE FROM TOYOTA. IN 2017, I WROTE A LETTER TO THE CEO'S OFFICE IN JAPAN AND THE MATTER WAS SENT BACK DOWN TO THE SAME OFFICE IN THE US. THERE IS SEVERE CORROSION ALL OVER THE BODY RUST BREAKING THROUGH CORRODING ALL COMPONENTS. TOYOTA THEN REQUESTED ALL RECORDS RELATED TO REPAIRS ASSOCIATED WITH VEHICLE. I WAS SENT A DENIAL TO MY REQUEST FOR ANOTHER VEHICLE WITH A SUGGESTION TO COMMUNICATE TO NATIONAL CENTER FOR DISPUTE SETTLEMENT BUT WAS NOT RETURN THE DOCUMENT COPY HIGHLIGHTING THE DETERMINATION OF DAMAGE AS A RESULT. I'M VERY DISSATISFIED AND CONCERNED WITH THE WAY THIS WAS HANDLED BECAUSE I INFORMED TOYOTA DURING THE FIRST-YEAR OWNERSHIP OF THE PROBLEM, TOLD 11 YEARS LATER THAT I WAS CORRECT, AND THEN TREATED AS IF I'M TRYING TO GET SOMETHING OUT OF THE COMPANY AFTER I HAVE BEEN A CUSTOMER OF TOYOTA FOR OVER 25 YEARS. EVERY COMPONENT EXPOSED TO THE AIR OUTSIDE OF THE REPLACED FRAME ROTTING AWAY AND HAS CAUSED SIGNIFICANT REPAIR BILLS IN DAMAGE. THE FILE(S) THAT I'M GOING TO UPLOAD DOES NOT INCLUDE ALL REPAIR BILLS BECAUSE OF THE FILE SIZE LIMITATION BY YOUR SITE. I'M AVAILABLE FOR DISCUSSION AND WILL SUBMIT ADDITIONAL RECORDS IF REQUESTED.
MY VEHICLE WAS RECALLED FOR FRAME ROT. TOYOTA WOULD NOT BUY THE VEHICLE BACK. INSTEAD THEY SPENT $11,000.00 +/- REPAIRING THE VEHICLE AND GIVING IT BACK TO ME. THE RECALL WAS FOR ALL OF THE NORTHEAST AND UPPER MIDWEST. SAND AND SALT USE ON THE ROADS CAUSES THE FRAMES TO ROT AND MAKE THE VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I WANT TOYOTA BE FORCED TO BUY THE VEHICLES BACK INSTEAD OF REPAIRING THEM. I KNOW MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP HAS DONE OVER A DOZEN RECALLS. *TR
THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE TOYOTA DEALER IN JANUARY 2013 PER A RECALL FOR POSSIBLE RUST IN THE FRAME. PER THE INSPECTION, RUST WAS NOT NOTED AND THE FRAME WAS TREATED WITH AN UNDERCOAT RUST INHIBITOR. HAD RUST BEEN NOTED, THE FRAME WOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED ACCORDING TO THE DEALER/RECALL. IN SEPTEMBER, 2013 A NOISE WAS NOTED IN THE FRONT END AREA WHEN TURNING AND GOING OVER BUMPS. UPON INSPECTION BY A CERTIFIED MECHANIC IT WAS FOUND THAT THE SWAY BAR HAD BECOME SEPARATED FROM ATTACHMENT TO THE FRAME DUE TO RUST. IT WAS FURTHER NOTED THAT THE SWAY BAR COULD NOT BE REATTACHED DUE TO A HOLE IN THE FRAME CAUSED BY RUST. THIS WAS LATER CONFIRMED BY THE TOYOTA MECHANIC ON 11/15/13. THEREFORE, THE VEHICLE IS NEITHER REPAIRABLE NOR SAFE TO DRIVE. EITHER TOYOTA'S TREATMENT FOR RUST PREVENTION WAS NOT EFFECTIVE OR RUST HAD ALREADY COMPROMISED THE FRAME BUT WAS NOT NOTED DURING THE INSPECTION. TOYOTA IS NOT HONORING THE ORIGINAL RECALL AND IS OFFERING NO SOLUTION IN ADDRESSING THE PROBLEM. TOYOTA CLAIMS IT'S RESPONSIBILITY FOR ADDRESSING THE RUST IN THE FRAME ENDED ON 1/18/13. YET, THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS AND WE ARE LEFT WITH A VEHICLE THAT IS NEITHER SAFE, DRIVABLE, OR REPAIRABLE DUE TO A CONDITION FOR WHICH IT HAD BEEN RECALLED JUST A FEW MONTHS EARLIER. *TR
I HAVE BEEN A LOYAL TOYOTA OWNER AND HAD 7 TOYOTAS SO FAR FROM A 1990 WHITE COROLLA, 1996 WHITE LAND CRUISER, 2007 WHITE RAV4. I CURRENTLY OWN A 2010 WHITE PRIUS, A 2006 WHITE VENZA, A 2005 SILVER PRIUS, AND THIS 2002 BLACK SEQUOIA LIMITED. AFTER SPENDING ALMOST $1500 TO ELIMINATE THE SHAKE @65 MPH FROM A SET OF NEW TIRES, 1MAGS THAT IS WARPED, AND ALIGNMENT TO NO AVAIL, I RESEARCH THIS SITE AND FOUND OUT THAT THE EXTENSIVE FRAME RUST THAT I JUST PAID MY MECHANIC OVER $500 TO CHIP AND 3M RUSTPROOFED IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE IN THIS CAR. INITIALLY, I FOUND A 3"X1" HOLE IN THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE FRAME AND UPON MY INVESTIGATION I WAS ABLE TO RETRIEVE A 2"X1" RUSTED PIECE OF METAL INSIDE THE FRAME. LOOKS LIKE THEY FORGOT TO PUT A DRAIN OR TOYOTA USED A SUB-PAR FRAME. WHEN MY MECHANIC LIFTED THE CAR, HE SHOWED ME AN EXTENSIVE RUST ALL OVER THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. IT REALLY GAVE ME CHILLS SEEING ALL THE PARTS RUSTED AND AFFECTED AND FELT UNSAFE DRIVING THE CAR. WHAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND IS IF THEY RECALLED THE SIMILAR FRAMED TUNDRA NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V444000, WHY DIDN'T THEY INCLUDED THE SEQUOIA? SEQUOIA SHOULD HAVE HIGHER PRIORITY SINCE IT CARRIES UP TO EIGHT PASSENGERS AND A MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE CAR. I THOUGHT TOYOTA CARES AND SEQUOIA IS SPECIALLY MADE TO HAUL FAMILIES...I TOOK IT TO INTERSTATE TOYOTA WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED AND SERVICED ALL IT'S LIFE AND DON THE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT THERE WILL BE A RECALL COMING SOON. I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY ON A DRY DAY, TRAVELING AT 65 MPH AND NOTICED THE TRAC CONTROL, ABS, AND BRAKE LIGHTS ALL ILLUMINATE. I THOUGHT THIS WAS INTERESTING. AS I DROVE AT STEADY 65MPH I NOTICED THE VEHICLE BECOME UNSTABLE, I COULD FEEL THE REAR END BEING VERY WISH-WASHY, TO THE POINT I HAD TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN TO ABOUT 55 MPH SO THAT IT WOULD FEEL MORE STABLE. I DRIVE THIS SAME STRETCH OF FREEWAY OFTEN AND HAVE NEVER HAD THE TRUCK ACT LIKE THIS UNTIL THE LIGHTS BECAME ILLUMINATED. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO MY MECHANIC, THEY PERFORMED SOME DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND DID SOME INVESTIGATING AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG, NO TRIPPED CODES OR ANYTHING ELSE POINTING TO SOMETHING NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. WHILE THEY WORKED ON THE VEHICLE THEY HAD AT SOME POINT DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY, RESETTING THE COMPUTER, THIS SEEMED TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM UNTIL LAST WEEK, 9/23/2013 WHEN THE LIGHTS SAME LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AGAIN. THIS SECOND TIME I NEVER NOTICED THE REAR-END BEING SLIPPERY AS I DID IN THE FIRST CASE. THANK GOODNESS. I WAS ON A LONG TRIP 600 MILES FROM HOME. I WORRIED THAT WHEN THESE LIGHTS ARE ILLUMINATED THAT IF I'M REQUIRED TO DO A QUICK STOP OR MANEUVER TO AVOID SOMETHING I MAY END UP IN A REALLY BAD SITUATION. VEHICLE SKID CONTROL SIMPLY ENGAGES AT NORMAL SPEEDS AND NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. HARD GRINDING, PULLING TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT AND ALMOST NO BRAKING. YES, THEY RECALLED 2003 TO 05 BUT NOT 2002? WHY? OVER A YEAR AND A HALF AGO MY HUSBAND NOTICED RUST DEVELOPING ON THE FRAME OF HIS VEHICLE. HE REPEATEDLY MENTIONED THIS TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHOSE RESPONSE WAS THERE ARE NO RECALLS SO YOU SHOULD BE OK. IN DECEMBER DURING THE VEHICLE'S MAINTENANCE THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED MY HUSBAND THAT THE FRAME WAS RUSTING OUT. THERE WAS NO PROPOSED SOLUTION OTHER THAN TO SCRAP THE THING. TWO WEEKS LATER WE RECEIVED A LETTER FROM TOYOTA STATING THAT THEY WERE CONDUCTING RESEARCH REGARDING FRAMES RUSTING OUT ON LIKE VEHICLE. WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION AND POSSIBLE FRAME PATCHING OR REPLACEMENT. THE DEALERSHIP RECEIVED THE OK TO REPLACE THE FRAME. HOWEVER MULTIPLE PARTS AROUND THE FRAME ARE ALSO RUSTED OUT. THE COST FOR COMPLETE REPAIR INCLUDING THE FRAME IS 15K. WE WERE TOLD THAT WE WOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST OF THE FRAME REPLACEMENT, HOWEVER WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR EVERYTHING ELSE, AROUND 10K. IT WOULD SEEM IF THE FRAME HAS A KNOWN RUST ISSUE, OTHER PARTS ON THE VEHICLE WOULD HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. WHY WOULD THE COMPANY NOT BE RESPONSIBLE TO PAY THE TOTAL COST OF THE REPAIR. MY 2002 SEQUOIA WAS GOING 68MPH WHEN, FOR NO REASON, THE VSC (VEH.STABILITY CONTROL) INDICATOR LITE BEGAN FLASHING.THE TRUCK PULLED LEFT, THE BRAKES SEEMED TO BE APPLYING UNEVENLY,AND THERE WAS A GRINDING NOISE.I NEARLY HAD AN ACCIDENT AND PULLED OVER. AGAIN, AFTER PICKING THE VEHICLE UP FROM THE TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT IN WHICH THE SKID CONTROL ECU AND BRAKE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED, THE VEHICLE REPEATED ALL ALARMS AND MALFUNCTIONS AS BEFORE: SLIPPERY LAMP ILLUMINATED, ALARM SOUNDED, VSC TRAC AND TRAC OFF LAMP LIT WHILE ABS BRAKES ENGAGED WHILE DRIVING ON A SLIGHT DECLINE AT 45 MPH. I RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO TOYOTA IMMEDIATELY! THE TECHNICIANS INFORMED ME ON THE FOLLOWING MONDAY THAT THE SEAL FOR THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS CRACKED AFTER REPLACING THE BRAKE BOOSTER ASSY. SURPRISINGLY, IT HAS HAPPENED AGAIN AND I AM TAKING IT BACK TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOMORROW MORNING. THERE HAS TO BE A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM AS THIS PROBLEM IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE. IT IS DISAPPOINTING THAT TOYOTA WOULD KEEP THESE VEHICLES ON THE ROAD WITH KNOW PROBLEMS OF THE SUCH. FORTUNATELY FOR ME, THERE HASN'T BEEN ANY ACCIDENTS. WHILE DRIVING AT 50 MPH ON A FLAT CONCRETE PAVED ROAD IN DRY CONDITIONS, THE SLIPPERY WET LAMP LIT AND THE ALARM SOUNDED FOR APPROXIMATELY 10 SECONDS WHILE THE ABS BRAKES ENGAGED ON. THIS OCCURRENCE HAPPENED IMMEDIATELY AFTER RECEIVING THE VEHICLE FROM THE TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT IN WHICH THE SKID CONTROL ECU WAS REPLACED FOR $770.79. THIS IS A REPEATED OCCURRENCE OF THE PROBLEMS. I DELIVERED THE VEHICLE BACK TO TOYOTA TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED ME THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE MAINTENANCE COST $1,606.24 AND THEY KEPT IF FOR 5 DAYS. *TR
I WAS A STOP LIGHT WITH THE BRAKES FIRMLY PRESSED DOWN WHEN THE VEHICLE LURCHED FORWARD. IT FELT AS IF SOMEONE HAD REAR-ENDED ME, HOWEVER, THERE WAS NO ONE BEHIND ME. NOW THE VSC LIGHTS ARE LIT UP ON THE DASHBOARD DISPLAY AND IT IS LURCHING AND POWER SURGING AT RANDOM. *TR

I DROVE TO AN ORIENTATION AND WHILE ON THE WAY HOME AT 45 MPH, ALL OF THE PREVIOUSLY STATED ALARMS AND MALFUNCTIONS OCCURRED AGAIN AND THE BRAKES ENGAGED WITH A LOUD NOISE. I STOP FOR GAS AT MY USUAL 1/4 TANK LEVEL AND WHILE PULLING AWAY FROM THE FUEL STATION, ALL ALARMS AND ALL MALFUNCTIONS RECURRED FOR THE THIRD TIME WITHIN A 24 HOUR PERIOD. THE ABS ENGAGED WHILE DRIVING AT 10 MPH. I CALLED THE TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND COORDINATED TO LEAVE MY VEHICLE IN THE NIGHT DEPOSIT BOX FOR MAINTENANCE THE NEXT MORNING. TOYOTA KEPT THE VEHICLE FOR TWO DAYS AND REPLACED THE SKID CONTROL ECU ANTICIPATING THAT THE PROBLEM WOULD BE RESOLVED. PREVIOUSLY, I HAD THE BRAKE FLUID FLUSHED AND REPLACED ON 08/17/2012 AS ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AT 262,223 MILES. THE PROBLEM RECURRED WITHIN DAYS. *TR

WHEN I WAS ABOUT TO LEAVE THE CHURCH PARKING LOT, I STARTED TO FEEL THE STEERING WHEEL WAS A LITTLE BIT HARD TO TURN. AS I MADE 2 MORE TURNS, IT SEEMED THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME HARDER TO MANEUVER AND IT EVEN GOT ME TO A NEAR ACCIDENT WHEN I ALMOST HIT A CAR WHILE MY SEQUOIA WAS TRYING TO MAKE A WIDE TURN TO THE RIGHT. LUCKILY I REACHED HOME FROM A MILE AND A HALF DRIVE WITHOUT HAVING ANY ACCIDENT. WHEN I CHECKED THE TRUCK UNDERNEATH, I FOUND OUT, THERE WAS A STEERING OIL LEAK COMING FROM THE GEAR ASSEMBLY NEAR THE BOOT. WHAT MADE ME MORE DISAPPOINTED WAS THAT I FOUND OUT THERE WAS AN EXCESSIVE RUSTING ON THE GEAR ASSEMBLY AND WITH MOST PARTS OF THE CHASSIS ASSY AS WELL. I THINK THE RUST HAS EATEN THE METAL SO MUCH THAT IT MADE A HOLE THROUGH THE OIL LINE IN THE GEAR ASSY. THE RUSTING, I BELIEVE, WAS TOO MUCH FOR A TEN YEAR OLD SUV. *TR

WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL EXPLODED AND THE CAR WOULD NOT DRIVE ANY FURTHER. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK, TURNED OFF THE CAR AND THE CAR KEPT ROLLING DESPITE BEING IN PARK. OUR DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN WONDERFUL AND RENTED ME A CAR AND WILL REPLACE THE FRAME BUT TOYOTA IS SAYING THAT I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DIFFERENTIAL REPLACEMENT. *TR

WHEN TAKING THE NEXT HIGHWAY OFFRAMP AND APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE WARNING LIGHTS AND GRINDING STARTED AGAIN AND THIS TIME IT ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT WHEN THE BRAKING WAS OVERRIDDEN BY THE ABS! ONLY AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTING DID THE WARNING LIGHTS TURN OFF. THE 2003 SEQUOIA WAS RECALLED FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM. THE 2002 SEQUOIA SHOULD ALSO BE RECALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE THEY STATED THAT THE TIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. THE CONTACT WAS THEN ADVISED THAT A CENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 166,000.

I JUST HAVE THE "IDIOT" LIGHTS ON THE DASH UNTIL I TURN OFF THE IGNITION. WHEN I NEXT DRIVE THE VEHICLE I AM VERY WARY UNTIL IT HAPPENS AGAIN, MAYBE IMMEDIATELY, OR 10 TO 20 MILES. BUT IT ALWAYS HAPPENS. THE DEALER SAYS A NEW YAW RATE SENSOR AND VSC ECU WILL FIX IT. ABOUT $1800.00 ABOVE THE $105.00 ALREADY PAID FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC FEE. WHAT REALLY GETS MY "GOAT" IS: THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE "EARLY" 2003 MODELS FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM.
DRIVING ON DRY ROAD AND VSC ENGAGES. CAN NOT USE BRAKES. CONTINUES TO DO THIS FOR A FEW MINUTES THEN STOP, THEN ENGAGE AGAIN. HAPPENED IN OCT. 2011 HAD A STEERING SENSOR REPLACED ADVISED BY TOYOTA AND IT IS DOING IT AGAIN. THIS IS VERY UNSAFE BECAUSE I HAD NO CONTROL OF VEHICLE WHILE THIS IS ENGAGED. VSC LIGHT CAME ON AND HAS NOT GONE OFF..DEALERSHIP SAYS ITS THE COMPUTER AND THAT 2003 AND LATER HAVE BEE RECALLED FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT NOT 2002 ??? VSC NOT ABLE TO ACTIVATE AT ALL. *TR
A HYUNDAI TUCSON RAN A RED LIGHT AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED (APPROX 50 MPH) HITTING US HARD ENOUGH TO FLIP US 360 DEGREES CAUSING US TO ROLL OVER ANOTHER HYUNDAI TUCSON AND LAND ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF A FOUR LANE HIGHWAY. WE WERE HIT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WHEREBY THE DOOR JAM BETWEEN THE FRONT AND BACK DOORS TOOK MOST OF THE HIT. DUE TO THE WAY WE ROLLED AND BOUNCED OFF THE HOOD OF THE STATIONARY CAR, I, ON THE PASSENGER SIDE TOOK MOST OF THE HIT. MY HEAD HIT THE WINDOW AND THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY BACK AND RIGHT ARM WERE BRUISED. MY HUSBAND, WHO WAS DRIVING, INJURED HIS SHOULDER. I THINK IF WE WERE IN ANY OTHER VEHICLE WE WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED OR FAR MORE SEVERELY INJURED. OUR SEATBELTS HELD US IN PLACE, BUT THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER CURTAIN AND SIDE AIRBAGS (THAT I PAID EXTRA FOR) DID NOT DEPLOY, WHICH I THINK IN A SIDE IMPACT ACCIDENT AND ROLL OVER, THEY SHOULD HAVE. PERHAPS IF THEY DID, I WOULD NOT HAVE HAD A CONCUSSION. *TR
JUST PURCHASED MY 2002 SEQUOIA WITH 144,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE; NOTICED THERE WAS A BIT OF RUST IN THE REAR DOOR JAMS NEXT TO THE PORTION OF THE WHEEL WELL, NOT TOO TERRIBLY CONCERNED AS IT SEEMS TO BE JUST UNDER THE PAINT AND IN VERY SMALL AMOUNTS. I HAVE BEEN READING ON VARIOUS FORUMS OF THE TUNDRA RUST ISSUE AND HOW THIS EXISTS ON THE SEQUOIAS AS WELL WITHOUT ANY RECOURSE BEING AVAILABLE, SO I TOOK A LOOK UNDER MY FRESH PURCHASE TO FIND THAT I INDEED HAD AN ALARMING AMOUNT OF RUST ON THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE TRUCK ON THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL, WELD SEAMS AND MAJOR PORTIONS OF THE FRAME; MORE THAN I WOULD EXPECT EVEN FOR A TOYOTA. I DON'T QUITE KNOW THE DETAILS OF EXACTLY HOW SIMILAR THIS FRAME IS TO TUNDRA'S BUT I WOULD CERTAINLY LIKE TO THINK THAT THERE WOULD BE SOME SORT OF PROVISION IN PLACE BY NOW TO SORT THIS OUT AS IT IS VERY SIMILAR TO WHAT TUNDRA OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING AND JUDGING BY THE AMOUNT OF COMPLAINTS I'VE BEEN ABLE TO DIG UP THUS FAR (9 FOR '03 MY, 6 FOR '02 MY AND 12 FOR '01 MY SEQUOIA) THIS REALLY CANNOT BE A COINCIDENCE. THE VSC LIGHTS COME ON WHEN DRIVING, THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL SEAL WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH AND SHOULD BE ON A RECALL, THE FRAME WAS ON RECALL AND REPLACED IN 2014, BUT THE REAR SEALS WERE RUSTED THRU AND TOYOTA AFTER COSTING ME THOUSANDS DOES NOT WANT TO COVER REAR SEALS WHY ? RIGHT AFTER THE FRAME WAS REPLACED AND THE TOYOTA DEALER IN DEERFIELD BEACH, FL SAID THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL IS ALSO WAY RUSTED OUT AND MAY BLOW THE SEALS, WELL THEY DID DURING A OIL CHANGE AND CHECK. IF TOYOTA KNEW OF THE EXTREME RUST ON THE FRAME THAT IT WAS ALSO ON THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL AS CONFIRMED BY 3 DIFFERENT MECHANICS ONE BEING TOYOTA. TOYOTA WANTS ME TO PAY $2,000.00 TO FIX WHICH IS OUTRAGEOUS. *TR
WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE IN THE LEFT HAND LANE. TRIED TO MERGE INTO THE RIGHT HAND LANE AND NOTICED A CAR IN MY BLIND SPOT SO I WENT BACK INTO THE LEFT LANE. HOWEVER, MY VSC/ABS LIGHTS WENT ON, THE CAR BEEPED, MADE A HEAVY GRINDING NOISE, AND THEN, WITH MUCH FORCE, VEERED HARD TO THE RIGHT. I TRIED TO STEER IT BACK TO THE LEFT HAND LANE, THE OTHER DRIVERS SAW ME WRESTLING WITH MY STEERING WHEEL AND THE CAR STARTED TO FISHTAIL SO FORTUNATELY THEY STAYED WELL BEHIND ME. THE CAR BECAME IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL AND STEER AND BRAKING DID NOT HELP. DESPITE MY BEST EFFORTS TO CONTROL THE CAR, APPLY THE BRAKES, STEER OUT OF THE SKIDDING AND FISHTAILING, MY CAR THEN WENT OVER INTO THE RIGHT LANE, OVER TO THE SHOULDER, AND THEN THE WHEEL SUNK INTO THE GRASS NEXT TO THE SHOULDER WHERE THE VEHICLE ROLLED OVER SEVERAL TIMES. MY SON AND I WERE AIRLIFTED TO THE TRAUMA UNIT. I SUFFERED 2 BROKEN VERTEBRAE IN THE C AREA OF MY NECK AND A COMPRESSED DISC IN THE T REGION OF MY SPINE, CONCUSSION, CUTS, BRUISES, GLASS EMBEDDED NEAR MY EYE, AS WELL AS A SPLENIC ANEURYSM. MY SON HAD A CONCUSSION, WOUND ON THE HEAD THAT REQUIRED STITCHES, CUTS, BRUISES AND A SPRAINED ANKLE. MY SON AND I WERE BOTH UNCONSCIOUS AT THE ACCIDENT SCENE.MY TWO DAUGHTERS HAD MINOR CUTS, SPRAINS, AND BRUISES. WE WERE FORTUNATE TO HAVE COME OUT OF THIS ALIVE AND NOT TO HAVE HIT ANYONE ELSE. I AM STILL IN A NECK BRACE AND UNDERGOING MEDICAL TREATMENT. TOYOTA NEEDS TO RECALL THIS MODEL AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. WE COULD HAVE ALL BEEN KILLED. UNFORTUNATELY, MY CAR WAS TOTALED AND THERE WAS NO BLACK BOX IN THIS MODEL. I WILL NEVER BUY A CAR FROM TOYOTA AGAIN. WHILE DRIVING DURING NORMAL DRY CONDITIONS, VSC ALARM STARTED TO GO OFF FOLLOWED BY LOSS OF CONTROL OF BRAKES. WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER WITHOUT INCIDENT AND AT ABOUT 10 MPH THE ALARM SHUTOFF AND THE AMBER TRAC OFF LIGHT AND VSC TRAC LIGHT ANNUNCIATED AND ALL DRIVING CONDITIONS WERE NORMAL AGAIN. I'M GUESSING AT THIS POINT THE SYSTEM WAS DISABLED IN THE TRAC OFF MODE. I'M IN THE PROCESS OF BRINGING THE CAR TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC HOWEVER I'VE READ NUMEROUS ITEMS ONLINE OF PEOPLE HAVING THIS PROBLEM AND TOYOTA DOESN'T SEEM TO HELP (RECALL). WE JUST BOUGHT THIS 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA TO USE FOR TOWING AS WELL AS TO CARRY OUR FAMILY AROUND IN. WE HAD OUR CHOICE BETWEEN AN EXPEDITION, A TAHOE AND THIS SEQUOIA. KNOWING THE RELIABILITY OF A TOYOTA WE WERE CONFIDENT THIS WAS A GOOD CHOICE FOR OUR FAMILY. WE HAVE HAD THE CAR APPROXIMATELY 3 WEEKS AND AS MY HUSBAND WAS TOWING A FULL LOADED TRAILER DOWN A MAJOR INTERSTATE THE VSC LIGHT FLASHED ON AND OFF A FEW TIMES. THINKING IT WAS PROBABLY NOTHING HE CAME HOME, MENTIONED IT TO ME AND STARTED LOOKING UP INFORMATION. WHAT WE FOUND WAS INCREDIBLE! THIS SEEMS TO BE A HUGE PROBLEM THAT TOYOTA IS UNWILLING TO ACKNOWLEDGE OR FIX OR EVEN HAVE A FIX FOR. LATER THAT DAY MY HUSBAND WAS PULLING INTO THE DRIVEWAY, SUDDENLY THE VSC TRAC LIGHT CAME BACK ON, THE CAR MADE A LOUD BEEPING NOISE AND ABRUPTLY LURCHED TO THE RIGHT! IMMEDIATELY AFTER COMING IN, I STARTED CALLING TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS. I WAS TOLD THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM HOWEVER IT COULD COST UP TO $4500 TO FIX! THE SERVICE ADVISER THEN WENT ON TO TELL ME STEP BY STEP WHAT THEY WOULD DO TO FIX THE PROBLEM. FIRST, BY CHANGING THE YAW RATE SENSOR THAN THE SKID CONTROL COMPUTER AND IF THAT DIDN'T WORK THE STEERING SENSOR, THAN THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND FINALLY THE MASTER CYLINDER. HOWEVER, I THEN LEARNED THAT "MAYBE" AFTER DOING ALL THESE REPAIRS THAT IT "MIGHT" FIX THE PROBLEM! WE THEN DROVE THE CAR TO OUR MECHANIC, WHICH IS QUITE A WAYS AWAY, AND AS WE WERE NEARING OUR DESTINATION (I WAS DRIVING THIS TIME) I WAS PRESSING THE BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN IN TRAFFIC AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR LURCHED TO THE RIGHT, THE LIGHTS STARTED FLICKING ON AGAIN AND THE CAR MADE A BEEPING NOISE! THE MECHANIC SAID THE CAR WAS PULLING SEVERAL DIFFERENT CODES SO HE WASN'T SURE WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT AND IT WOULD BE TRIAL AND ERROR TO FIX IT. TOYOTA--YOU KNOW SOMETHING IS WRONG. FIX IT BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT! *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 TOYOTA SEQUIOA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE ABS AND THE BSC LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO STEER AND THE BRAKES INADVERTENTLY ENGAGED. AFTER RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, THE WARNING LIGHTS DID NOT ILLUMINATE AND THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITHOUT FAILURE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY SIX DIFFERENT TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE YAW SENSOR AND STROKE SENSOR WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V176000 (TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM) THAT MAY BE RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE RECALL DID NOT INCLUDED 2002 VEHICLES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 126,000.
